The lateral compartment of the leg contains the peroneus longus and peroneus brevis muscles, which are evertors of the foot and weak plantar flexors of the ankle. The compartment is supplied by the superficial peroneal nerve and is separated from the anterior and posterior compartments by intermuscular septa. It also contains the trunk of the common peroneal nerve, with the peroneal artery as a branch from the posterior tibial artery.

The lateral compartment of the leg:
The lateral compartment of the leg overlies the lateral surface of the shaft of the fibula. It is separated
from the anterior compartment by the anterior intermuscular septum, and from the posterior
compartment by the posterior intermuscular septum.
It contains two muscles: peroneus longus and peroneus brevis, both of which are evertors of the foot
and both of which are weak plantar flexors of the ankle joint. The nerve of the lateral compartment is
the superficial peroneal nerve.

The tendon of peroneus longus runs in a groove on the plantar surface of the cuboid, not navicular. The tendon the
inserts onto the base of the 1st metatarsal, not head of the metatarsal.

The superficial peroneal nerve:
