A vector consensus problem is formulated for an infrastructure-less cognitive radio network where nodes cooperatively sense spectrum occupancy through local interactions. Simulation results show that the infrastructure-less approach achieves detection performance comparable to a centralized architecture and that detection probability increases with the number of measurements and link quality while decreasing with sparsity level.
Free Space Optics
Free Space Optics (FSO) uses visible light communication or infrared light to transmit data wirelessly over short to medium distances. It provides high-speed connectivity as an alternative to fiber for the "last mile" between buildings. FSO has advantages of high data rates up to 2.5 Gbps, easy installation without wiring, and high security. However, it also faces challenges of signal attenuation from factors like sunlight, fog, clouds, and building sway requiring techniques like automatic tracking and large beam divergence to maintain alignment. FSO is best suited for short-distance last mile connections between buildings where fiber may be difficult to install.

Over the past 3 years, the Career Development Office at the Leeds School of Business has built a comprehensive 4-year data collection strategy leveraging the integration of Qualtrics and Salesforce. This approach has allowed us to better understand student career interests and challenges in order to customize career programming, student communication, and employer outreach. From an initial focus on senior progress and outcomes, we expanded data collection efforts through the implementation of the Leeds Personal Business Plan starting in the freshman year. This Plan is integrated into classroom assignments and updated by all students throughout their college career. As a result of these efforts, we now have over 50,000 data points, ranging from first-years through seniors, regarding company/industry interests and career development needs. Our strategy has improved both student and employer engagement, increased student response rates, and consistently led to an over 95% knowledge rate of senior outcomes. Attendees at this session will learn how the powerful combination of Qualtrics integration with Salesforce can be used to develop a comprehensive picture of student interests and needs. Participants will learn how they can leverage this information to develop targeted communication and intervention strategies to support student success.

Spatial techniques in WiFi 802.11ac

Binary consensus

Each secondary user makes an initial local binary decision and then iteratively updates its decision by taking the average of its own decision and the decisions received from neighboring nodes. The algorithm is analyzed using a Markov chain representation and the convergence time is related to the second largest eigenvalue of the transition matrix. Simulation results show that the algorithm can accurately detect the presence or absence of a primary user as the number of iterations increases.
