1. Justifying An Evaluation Essay Topics
Writing an essay on the topic "Justifying An Evaluation Essay Topics" can be a challenging task
that demands a thoughtful and analytical approach. The difficulty lies in the need to not only
choose appropriate evaluation criteria but also to justify them effectively. This type of essay
requires a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter, as well as the ability to critically
assess and evaluate various aspects.
To begin with, selecting suitable evaluation criteria can be a complex process. One must carefully
consider the specific topic and determine the criteria that are relevant and meaningful for the
evaluation. This involves a thorough analysis of the subject, weighing the importance of different
aspects, and deciding which criteria will be used to assess the chosen topic.
Moreover, justifying the chosen criteria is equally demanding. It necessitates the ability to
articulate a clear rationale for why certain criteria are relevant and how they contribute to a fair
and comprehensive evaluation. Providing solid arguments and evidence to support these
justifications adds an additional layer of complexity to the writing process.
Crafting a well-structured essay that effectively conveys the evaluation and justification can be
daunting. The essay should have a coherent introduction, a well-organized body that presents the
evaluation criteria and justifications logically, and a strong conclusion that summarizes the key
points. Striking the right balance between objectivity and persuasion is crucial to ensure that the
reader is convinced of the validity of the evaluation.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Justifying An Evaluation Essay Topics" requires careful
consideration, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills. It involves navigating the
complexities of selecting appropriate criteria, justifying their relevance, and presenting a well-
structured argument. While challenging, successfully completing such an essay can be a
rewarding experience that hones critical thinking and writing abilities.

2. Lay Magistrates In The Legal System Of England And
Wales
LL4181/LL5181 ELSM Second Formative Coursework
Explain and critically consider the use of lay magistrates in the legal system of
England and Wales.
Lay magistrates are very important to the legal system in England and wales. Lay
magistrate s also known as Justices of the peace are volunteers in Magistrates courts
as judicial officers. There are 21,500 lay magistrates currently in England and wales.
Combined with professional magistrates in a magistrate s court they take up to 95%
of cases involving criminal charges . This essay will be investigating the actual
importance of them as well as recommendations on diversifying the bench for the
Lord Chancellor.
Lay magistrates take on a lot of cases in England and wales in magistrate s courts
as well as sentencing on most cases. Magistrate s courts hear cases involving
prosecutions of young offenders and children family cases. Lay magistrates also
attend Family cases; this is due to change in 2014, where these types of hearings
will be passed to the Family Court . In general Lay magistrates only take on minor
criminal offences. With the use of lay magistrate s a lot of time is spared to
parliament and higher courts to concentrate on more serious offences within the law
as well as problems concerning the country in general, such as the Scottish
referendum. This makes the use of Lay Magistrates essential in the English legal
system.
The recruitment process to become a lay magistrate has not changed much. The

3. Film Analysis Of Mothlight, By Stan Brakhage
Mothlight, by Stan Brakhage, is also a film heavily focused on the visuals.
Released in 1963, Mothlight s running time of four minutes consists of nothing but
what look like pictures of winged insects and foliage. Further investigation reveals
that Brakhage created the film without a camera, and instead used two strips of
splicing tape to press the object enough to emit light through it (Braunstein 285).
No viewer of Mothlight will stop to wonder about a conceivable plot the film could
be trying to convey. The film itself does not express that there is a plot to be
perceived. Instead, audiences view the visuals and think only about the visuals
because it is the only thing being presented. Once the connection to the title of the
film is made, the next natural question to ask is How? The question is no longer
directed at the screen in which the film is being projected. Instead, the question
becomes about the physical objects being presented. Brakhage was able to use film to
show or emphasize a part of nature one might not have taken a second to observe. By
directing attention to film as a physical object, Brakhage used Mothlight to enlighten
audiences with a unique technique to showcase the visuals of film. A Movie and
Mothlight are both subverting preconceptions of mainstream cinema at the time, but
they both do so by calling the audience s attention to the film medium. A Movie puts
effort into directly reminding audiences that it is a film while Mothlight gets
4. The Law Of Sexual Offences Act
In 2003, the Sexual Offences Act was introduced to remedy the problems in the
law of sexual offences. Two important provisions were created. Section 74
introduced a statutory definition of consent, where a person consents if he agrees
by choice, and has the freedom and capacity to make that choice ; and section 76
introduced a list of conclusive presumptions on the absence of consent. The
provisions were introduced to clarify the law on consent, which prior to the Act
was scarce and unclear. However, from their inception the amendments have been
criticized for generating further confusion. First, the relationship between s.74 and
76 is ambiguous, whether s.76 is an exhaustive list of deceptions or whether other
deceptions fall under s.74 has an impact on the case law, as illustrated in McNally
and Assange. Second, the correct interpretation of s.76 is still unclear, the Courts
fluctuating between wide and narrow applications. To conclude, this essay will
ultimately look at a provision from the old 1956 Act which had it been re enacted
might have clarified the law. The relationship between Section 74 and 76 of the
SOA One of the confusions that has arisen from the case law, is whether section 76
is an exhaustive list of deceptions, or whether other deceptions will fall under s.74.
Recent case law shows a confusion in the application of the two provisions. In

6. Butler County Community College s Parking Case
Butler County Community College s parking situation is appalling. Every day I
have had class so far this semester I have been either late or right on time depending
on how fast I power walk through campus. The reason I am late is not that I am
sleeping in too late or slowly making my way across town to get to the school. It is
that I show up on timeand spend at least fifteen minutes slowly driving through the
parking lot looking for a relatively close parking spot. My own solution to this
problem has been that now instead of looking for a spot close to the building my
class is in, I just go straight to the very back parking lot and walk through the campus
to the building my class is in. What I needs to happen is Butler County Community
Collegehas to add more parking, expand the campus, or invent teleportation.... Show

Butler has a small campus which is nice because there is not a long walk to get to
anywhere. The downfall of this is that everyone is trying to park their cars in the
same general area, which still would be great if there were enough parking spaces
to suffice, but there is not. What needs to happen is Butler has to make more
parking spaces. A great place for these new spaces could be to just lengthen the
already made lots to down and around the welcome center. Another option could be
that the college tear what is already built now and expand the campus. Making the
campus much broader would space out the students parking tendencies and break
up the clusters of jam packed areas in the parking lots. Without a doubt this would
be extremely costly and would probably force Butler to raise the price of tuition to
get this money. Raised tuition could possibly turn students off from going to Butler,
but that is a price I am willing to pay for better parking

The topic that I have chosen to discuss throughout this paper is Managing and
Resolving Conflicts in a Relationship. This topic is very important to me simply
because, I personally see a lot of relationships failing, including some of mines due
to lack of resolving and managing conflicts correctly. By the end of this paper I hope
that I have helped the reader understand and eliminate any conflicts that confront
their everyday lives. Many relationships and about fifty five percent of marriages end
because of unresolved conflicts. Most of the time these relationships fail because

Conflict need not be catastrophic or personal conflicts are simply part of being
human. Deal with issues as they arise, avoiding conflict makes situations worse.
Time does not resolve matters instead it decreases the chance of a positive
outcome. Attempt to understand the other person s point of view because
dismissing the other s views, assigning blame, and exclusive focus on your own
perspective are all counterproductive. Do not judge emotions, no one s feelings are
more or less right than the other. Emotions reflect a valid perspective of an
individual even if you don t understand it; acknowledge the other person s reaction
as important. Focus on the behavior, situation or problem area without attacking
the person involved. Do not assume your values or beliefs are right , they reflect a
view of the world from your unique perspective. Respecting another s viewpoint as
equally valuable opens an opportunity for learning and growth (Lifetips moving up
in life, 2000). Handling conflict is a skill which can be learned. It requires practice,
discipline and self control. In the midst of conflict, most people forget the overall
goal in addressing the conflict: Having your partner understand your feelings and
resolving the disagreement. The more a couple can keep this goal in mind the less
likely either will engage in criticism, yelling or name calling. These behaviors only
fuel the conflict (Managing Conflict in Your Relationship,

Senses, published in Natural History Magazine, Tyson explores the idea of the five
senses being limited and needing help from technology. Through Tyson s use of
ethical appeals, allusions, and hypothetical scenarios, he is able to effectively
convince the readers that humans need to use their five senses and technology to
explore and understand the world around them. Through Tyson s use of ethical

In 1951, the Corning Museum of Glass was built. It was an L shaped building that
composed of the non for profit Corning Museum of Glass, the for profit Corning
Glass Center, and the Steuben Glass factory. The Corning Museum of Glass is an
institution whose mission is to tell the world about glass by engaging, educating, and
inspiring visitors and the community through the art, history, and science of glass.
Thanks to resources like the Juliette K. and Leonard S. Rakow Research Library, this
museum is able to spread knowledge about the art, history, and science of
glassmaking.
The museum was founded in 1951 by Corning Glass Works as an educational
institution. It is a non profit institution that preserves the world s glass and teaches
about it. The initial building included a Hall of Science that showcased the
technology of glass. The Scientific Research Department of the museum was

The Senate Bill, sponsored by Senator Guy Reschenthaler (R Allegheny) was written
in an attempt to bar municipalities from adopting so called sanctuary cities policies
that refer to the refusal to comply with federal detention orders issued by
Immigrations and Custom Enforcement.
Moreover, SB 10 proposes to withhold all state grant funding from local governments

authorities. It also holds local governments liable for damages if they release a person

SB 10, would halt all state grant funding from the Federal Government. This is up to
and including grants for 911 service and transportation infrastructure and would affect
local governments that do not follow all immigration orders from the federal
government.
Passage of SB 10 would also hold counties liable for damages if they release an
individual after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a detainer
request and the individual commits injury to person or property thereafter. The bill
does not define or specify what injury to person or property means.
ICE detainer requests are orders from ICE to a state or local government to detain an
individual to allow them to investigate their immigration status. The requests are not
reviewed by a court and are not supported by a finding of probable cause. This is
another reason I will not support this
13. Essay about Descartes View on the Senses
Descartes first meditation included a few arguments that Descartes studied and
analyze. The one I choose to analyze was his argument of sense deception. The
actually argument is the following: (1) My senses sometimes deceive me. (2) If my
senses sometimes deceive me, then they might always deceive me. (3) If my senses
might always deceive me, then I cannot be certain about any beliefs acquired through
my senses. (4) If I cannot be certain about any beliefs acquired through my senses,
then I must suspend judgment on those beliefs. (5) Therefore I must suspend my
judgment of those beliefs. To put this is premise conclusion argument form, it would

Company, page 14 pencil in a glass of water, the pencil will look like it is broken in
half, but it is just the property of water that makes it seem like it s broken. The
next premise is that if my senses sometimes deceive me, then they might always
deceive me. He stated that, In a mark of prudence never to place our complete trust
in those who have deceived us even once2. So what Descartes means is that if
someone or something deceives you once, there is a possibility that it will deceive
you again. So you cannot fully trust that someone or something. His third premise
was, If my senses might always deceive me, then I cannot be certain about any
beliefs acquired through my senses. Descartes demands certainty. Therefore if
something deceives him once, he cannot be certain it will not deceive him again.
He cannot base any of his beliefs on his sense since he is not certain about his sense
misleading him. His last premise was, If I cannot be certain about any beliefs
acquired through my senses, then I must suspend judgment on those beliefs. Since he
feels he cannot be certain about any beliefs that he gets from senses, he has to stop
making conclusion based on those beliefs he got from his senses, because of his lack
of certainty. Then he concludes by saying he must suspend judgment on those beliefs.
This argument is a form of multiple modus ponens.
14. Research Report On Springdale Phone Survey
Springdale Phone Survey There are surveys being taken by many corporations,
large or small, to gather information. This information is helpful in making
improvements to certain processes. In fact, the Economics and Statistics
Administration (2015) indicated that the American Community Survey (ACS) is
the largest continuous household survey in the United States, providing a wealth
of information about the economic, social, and demographic characteristics of
persons, as well as housing characteristics (para. 1). Not every survey has to regard
large scale issues or debates on a national level. For instance, the Springdale phone
survey data is regarding issues consumers may run into while shopping at local
malls. In an effort to continually improve processes such as: staffing, returns,
convenient hours, and cleanliness, store owners and city official may take a
random survey by calling folks in the community and ask for information on these
issues. Can the data really make an impact on future sales? Without collecting the
data, one would never know. Therefore, it is imperative to attempt to collect it.
Overview of the Survey There were 150 participants in this survey that were asked
to rate certain issues on a scale of importance to his or her shopping experiences
from 1 (the attribute is not very important in choosing a shopping area) to 7 (the
attribute is very important in choosing a shopping area). The issues the participants

A Flag for Canada
The Canadian Government defines a flag as a symbol to identify people belonging to
a group.
Canada has been a country for many years but has always lacked one thing. Up until
1965, we did not have our own official flag. The first thoughts of Canada adopting its
own flag started in 1925. A Privacy Council committeelooked at the possibilities but
their work was never completed. This meant that the Red Ensign and the Union Jack
would continue to represent Canada. In 1946 a committee was again formed to
determine a national flag. Over 2,600 designs were submitted but yet again, no flag
was picked.

favorite choice of Diefenbaker and the Conservatives. Diefenbaker liked this idea
because it was new and reflected our roots and historical past with France and
Britain. The second choice was three maple leafs in the middle on white which
reflected the English , the French , and all the other cultures that make up Canada,
topped off with a blue stripe going down each side representing the oceans. This
flag was the personal preference of Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson and was
nicknamed The Pearson Pennant. The third and final choice was by far the boldest
and most simple of the three designs. The third had a single maple leaf in a white
square with red on each side.
In 1921 King George V proclaimed Canada s national colours red and white,
therefore it would be ideal to incorporate the national colours into the countries flag.
After much debate, a Flag was finally chosen. The committee, which chose the flag,
had met 46 times. The two men which get the most credit for creating and choosing
a flag for our country were George Stanley and John Matheson. They played key roles

The cultural group that I am researching is the Yaqui (Sonoran Desert, U.S. and

the same region as I am. The Yaqui, people of Sonora [Mexico] settled along the
Yaqui river... many Yaqui emigrated to Arizona to escape subjugation ( Yaqui.

Hey buddy, Fortunato said. You want to come to this carnival in town with me

I think I ll pass for tonight, says Montresor. I m not really feeling up to the partying
these days.
Suit yourself, peace out! yelled Fortunato as he ran away happily on his way to the

While at the carnival, Fortunato spotted a woman and it was love at first sight.
The two hit it off right away! He felt his life was about to change for the better.
Montresor sat alone feeling isolated and lonely in his empty house, and just
thought about his life. He lost the love of his life, his career, success, and his
wealth. Sitting on the floor in his dark, gloomy, disheveled living room, he then
decided to make a change. He pounced up, ran to the kitchen and got rid of all the
alcohol in his home and he declared he would never drink another day in his life!
Alcohol was the one thing that ruined everything for him and he hated it and himself
for giving it that power. Montresor began to withdraw from his friendship with
Fortunato slightly because of his use of alcohol. It had been a while since they hung
out and Fortunato wanted to introduce Montresor to the new girl he d fallen in love

22. Frequency-Following Response Paper
The paper illustrates the differences among individuals in the Frequency following
response (FFR) and its connection with pitch perception. Generally, the FFR is
presumed to introduce the pitch of a particular sound perceived by individuals. FFR
varies among individuals and the reason of this variability is still unknown. However,
the authors of this paper carried out the investigation to find out the relation between
FFR representation of the frequencyof a complex tune and perception of the pitch of
the fundamental frequency.
The FFR to complex sounds varies between all individuals with same characteristics
and healthy body. This gives rise to a question about FFR and its contribution in
auditory system such as how auditory information and cognitive progression is
followed by FFR and how these processes are transformed into behavior tasks which
then results in distinguished pathology and health conditions.

23. Discuss the Concept of Cultural Capital Essay
Discuss the concept of cultural capital Pierre Bourdieu developed the concept of
cultural capital in order to attempt to explain the differences in educational outcomes
in France during the 1960 s. Cultural capital is theorised as the forms of knowledge,
skill, education; any advantages a person has which, give them a higher status in
society, including high expectations (Nick Stevenson, 1995.pp.46 48). This
differentiates economic and social status from the class agenda which, is rigidly
sustained through an exclusive cycle. Cultural capital itself can be used in analysis of
the class system, and how the dominant aesthetic and ideology is sustained from
generation to generation. There are three defined subtypes of cultural... Show more

to succinctly get their viewpoint across and liaise with teachers in an open

24. A Lack Of Dignity By Ernest J. Gaines
A lack of dignity was shown throughout A Lesson Before Dying in the characters of
Grant, Jefferson, Miss Emma, Tante Lou, and Vivian. All of these characters in the
novel struggled with their lack of human morals which reflected on their impertinent
actions towards themselves and among others. The story takes place in the1940 s
small Cajun town of Bayonne, Louisiana. In this time period there was an abundance
of racial segregation between african americanpeople and a strong bias towards white
people. This shouldn t be an excuse or reason of why there was very little dignity
throughout the novel. Furthermore, Ernest J. Gainesgives us plenty of examples of
how these characters showed this lack of dignity among themselves and others.
Grant Wiggins, a school teacher, is the most educated man in the community. He s
been to the university and came back home to teach at the same school that he
went to growing up as a child. This is an achievement of itself , and most of the
people in his community show him lots of respect for taking on this ruthless job.
Unfortunately, his lack of dignity is shown by him seeing his work at the school as
being useless or unworthy. His perspective towards his own community is that
nothing ever changes and that all of these years of slavery had brought his people s
advancement to a sudden stop. Because of this feeling Grant shows several times in
the novel that he wants to leave town and start a new life somewhere else. He says in
the novel,
25. John Brown Abolitionist
John Brown was an American abolitionist who believed armed insurrection was the
only way to overthrow the institution of slavery in the US. Due to to the violence he
used to erase slavery he was considered a murderer/terrorist, however some believed
he was a hero, since he fought against slavery. To me John Brownwas a hero and
villain/terrorist. He was a man who did some things that were looked upon by some
as terrorist type acts, but others looked at those same acts as fighting against slavery.
it is quite easy to see Brown as a villain. After all, he committed a massacre in
Kansas in which he brutally killed a number of men in front of their wives and kids.
In Kansas he also murdered fathers and sons, because they were from the South ...

The people who thought he was a hero believed strongly in the abolitionist cause.
Brown helped fight against slavery, because he believed in equal rights, but he
didn t believe there was a peaceful way to solve this, and so he used violence. I to
agree with him that you needed some kind of violence to end slavery, however he
killed many innocent people which was wrong. He was someone who did lot s of
very bad things, but he did them for a clearly good cause. In John Brown s address
it states I intended, certainly, to have made a clean thing of that matter, as I did
last winter when I went into Missouri, and there took Slaves without the snapping
of a gun on either side, moving them through the country, and finally leaving them
in Canada. I designed to have done the same thing again on a larger scale. That was
all I intended . I never did intend murder, or treason, or the destruction of property,
or to excite or incite Slaves to rebellion, or to make insurrection. This shows Brown
did at first tried to solve slavery peacefully, but it didn t work so he moved on and
used violence. Also in John Brown s address it states I feel entirely satisfied with
the treatment I have received on my trial. This shows that Brown took up for his
sins and wants to serve them. This I consider a good act, and also he is fighting for
slavery, and if you fight for slavery shouldn t that make you a hero? Even if John
Brown used violence methods to end slavery he still fought against slavery which is

Elizabeth I was born on Sunday, September 7, 1533; her father was King Henry
VIII of England and her mother was the very infamous Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII s
second wife (Starkey 1). King Henry VIII was disappointed with Elizabeth s
gender, he was hoping for son and not another daughter and Henry s astrologers
and doctors predicted that Anne Boleyn would give birth a son (Starkey 4).
Boleyn was executed for being a whore when Elizabeth was only 2 3 years old
(Starkey 22). Despite this trauma, Elizabeth seems to have covered up memories of
late mother and her main objective was to please her father and gain back her title.

Edward VI with his studying especially with learning different dialects. Elizabeth I

tutors. Elizabeth I had a total of four stepmothers. Jane Seymour was the first and
probably King Henry VIII s favorite due to her pious and kind spirit and the fact
that she produced the son that he craved. But unfortunately, Jane Seymour died
during childbirth and this was devastating news to not only to King Henry VIII but
to the rest of the English court as well. After months of grieving Elizabeth s father

The Federal Reserve is a federal system enacted to help balance the monetary system
of America. Overall, the system is meant to encourage economic growth. However,
there are some flaws of the system that result in economic chaos, such as stealing and
inflation. It s vital to understand the biblical principles that are overstepped by the
Federal Reserve to determine if it is a system that aids Christian practices. Thus, one
can observe the important role that the system plays, but also the problems that its
flaws can create by overstepping Christian principles.
The Federal Reserve system was created to help maintain a balance for the monetary
system in America. Not only does it help regulate the flow of currency, but it also
oversees banks and therefore influences Americans on a personal level with their
finances. Evidently, the system is deeply webbed into the federal system and

November 9, 2016 Should illegal Mexican immigrants be given an opportunity to
become U.S. citizens
Illegal immigration has been a problem and most controversial issue for the United
States for a long time. Thousands of illegal immigrants have entered the U.S. through
either the Mexican border, or through many other ways. Some Mexicans have come
into the U.S. through a tourist visa, but then have over stayed and are working in
various places. But what s wrong if the U.S. government grant amnesty to those
immigrants whose only crime is their immigration status? Amnesty, indeed, is not
only the best solution to immigration problem of the U.S., it is the only feasible
solution. There are several reasons for giving an opportunity to illegal Mexican
immigrants to become U.S. citizens. First, the U.S. economy is highly dependent on
illegal immigrants. For all the eloquence about illegal immigrants stealing jobs,
illegal immigration provides benefits to the national economy. Their importance was
highlighted in a report by Texas Comptroller Susan Combs, who states, Without the

According to the latest estimates, there are 11 million illegal immigrants in America,
and out of 11 million, 6.8 million are employed. If the government of the United
States decides to evacuate them from the country all at once, it would leave
thousands of jobs empty as there would not be enough legal employees to take over
and fill those empty spaces. Also, it is extremely difficult to deport 11 million
people. Even attempting to do so, indeed, would require a massive amount of money
which would be in between $400 and $600 billion (thinkprogress.org). So, instead of
spending that much money for deportation, we can utilize these people in different

Introduction
Christianity is the world s largest religion in number of adherents, accounting to more
than 2.1 billion (around 31.4% as of 2015) and geographical spread in almost every
country in the world, there is at least one Christian community (Green ,2015).
The former religion of the Romans was polytheism based and could not give comfort
to the destitute. The many Gods and Goddesses did not lend themselves to the idea of
equality and salvation. Christianity proclaimed the equality of all people. People
were considered equal in Christianity and the Christian God was the unquestioned
authority. This God did not share a pantheon with others, he was the one and only.
The new religion rejected the existing social system of slavery, and thus gave rise
to hope of liberation from oppression of the most desperate people. The religion
called for the reconstruction of the world. It gave hope to slaves, hope for freedom
to common people through a simple and accessible way through the adoption of the
doctrine of Christ (Adair, 2008, pp.18 19).
Initially, Christianity spread among the Jews of Palestine and the Mediterranean
diaspora of the Jews. But starting from the first decades, especially through the work
of the Apostle Paul, it has acquired a large number of followers among other nations
(Adair, 2008, p.19).

Shaheen. It s all too familiar.
Chadwell s story of unconscious gender bias isn t the only one. A study conducted by
researchers from Harvard and MIT found investors are 68 percent more likely to
choose ventures pitched by men. The study isolated gender by having men and
women pitch the same exact business plan to investors. Female entrepreneur s
business plans were 40 percent less likely to be chosen over mens.
Michelle Richards, the third panelist and the founder of the Great Lakes Women s
Business Council (Great Lakes WBC), stated her company was working on ending
this disparity, but it simply is not enough.
For women to succeed they need what I call the three C s capacity, customers and
contracts, said Richards. Contracts cause the biggest issues, so we re working on
improving that aspect.
The Great Lakes WBC started a small business loan program that has created over
1800 jobs across nine Michigan counties. Richards states this is just a start for women
entrepreneurs in America.

Basic strength of Neo in movie is ability to combat with agents which others have

Seeing focuses on European oil paintings while addressing the portrayal of the
female body in art and how it has changed over time, with this in mind my chosen
images are paintings from the last thirty years and reflect changes in society, style,
and the practice of art and design.
The images I have chosen are Tracey Emin s Spending Time with You (2015) (Fig.1)

He proposes that in this way she makes herself into an object and as a result of this

The objectification of woman in art and the systemic sexism displayed in the works
Berger discusses are indicative of a larger societal problem. However, we have
undoubtedly progressed in the years since the publication of Ways of Seeing; this is
demonstrated in the incredibly different approach to the female nude by
contemporary artists such as Freud and Erin as discussed above. In fact, it is a strong
argument that Bergers definition of nude is no longer relevant and instead the naked
nude may be more appropriate.
Unfortunately many of the issues raised in Bergers text such as the male gaze remain
relevant today. The unequal relationship between men and women as evidenced by
the European nude is deeply intwined into our culture and the subconscious of the
modern woman. To conclude although the nude has developed and changed with
time, many of Bergers arguments still hold true particularly across media like
television and advertising.

they exemplifying signs or symptoms. However, moderate risk patients have two or

When President Clinton was in office he relaxed the rules that prohibited women
from serving near combat zones. While this gave women a chance to prove
themselves in dangerous situations, it also put the military at risk. During a
mission in Bosnia almost five percent of female service members became pregnant
and had to be returned to their home base, leaving the military in the position of
scrambling to find replacements (Belz). According to statistics released by the
Navy at least sixteen percent of women sailors have become pregnant, leading
many to term Navy ships as love boats (Belz). If the military is unable to control
sexual relations between segregated men and women how are they supposed to
control sexual relations between service members of the same gender? Men and
women are segregated in an attempt to prevent the possibility of sexual relations
and sexual harassement. It would seem to reason that homosexual men would also
not be allowed to room with other men and that the same would apply for
homosexual women. The miltary would need to find a way to separate homosexual
service members in order to ensure that sexual relations were not occuring while on
deployment. Separate accomodations based on sexual preference, however, would be
openly discriminatory. These actions would prove to be a logistical and legal
nightmare for the military, but would also

In addition, Foster utilizes early Gothic elements by incorporating the age s shifting
gender roles to make sexual differences a source of fear that plays into the element
of generating something like fear, for the readers (Crow 1 2). Wharton s friends and

she sees it from Wharton and Sumner s side. Often times, emotionally balanced
characters in Gothic novels do not exist, but there is still that knowing and that
necessity of a balance. Thus, the two genres once again mesh into each other in The
Coquette.
To focus in on American values during the nineteenth century, Foster in The Coquette
exhibits sentimentalism and early Gothicism despite the subtle differences between
the two. It is important to compare the ideas behind both of these genres because it
allows a glimpse into the past for showing both American ideals at the time and how
they have evolved over the course of America s history. They also show some of the
controversial issues going on in societies that would otherwise be glossed over.
Considering how sentimentalism and Gothicism both came around during the
Enlightenment, it is evident that there are many issues to be addressed, including that
of too much intellect in contrast to human emotions. The fact that sentimentalism and
Gothicism can cross paths in a novel such as Foster s to illustrate the times, shows
how diverse the literary world was. Both genres enhance human emotion,

When the same female went through another egg cycle in 2007, the decision was
made to leave the eggs to test for parthenogenesis3. Tissue samples were collected
from two deceased embryos, each from 2007 and 2008, as well as from the neonate
who died 80 days after hatching, to determine whether the embryos were hybrids or
parthenogenetically reproduced. The tests confirmed that the embryos were diploid

Institute of Management Accountants 2011 Annual Conference. Traditional standard
costing (TSC), used in cost accounting, dates back to the 1920s and is a central
method in management accounting practiced today because it is used for financial
statement reporting for the valuation of income statement and balance sheet line
items such as cost of goods sold (COGS) and inventory valuation. Traditional standard
costing must comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP US) and
actually aligns itself more with answering financial accounting requirements rather
than providing solutions for management accountants. Traditional approaches limit
themselves by defining cost behavior only in terms of production or sales
43. Similarities Between Hamlet And Oedipus
Hamlet and Oedipus as Tragic Heroes The theme of tragedy is strongly present
throughout Oedipus and hamlet. Both stories revolve around a plot of murder and
personal loss. They consist of a dark mood and scenery as well as a tragic
conclusion. A similar concept in the characters is their noble heredity and ideals.
Additionally, they possess a mutual trait, known as a tragic flaw. Oedipus seems
unable to manage his anger, causing him to act abruptly. Consequentially, he
unknowingly killed his father in an outburst. He had experienced tragedysince the
very beginning of his life. From his origin, he was disposed of and left for dead by
his parents, such character may be classified as ill fated , which is a similitude
between him and Hamlet. Despite his early tragedy he had grown to have a
prosperous life as a great king, with ideal traits in his personality. This lasted until he

The said soliloquy shows him to be more melancholic, and desperate. In the
beginning, his motives and feelings are clear. Hamlet is simply disgusted that his
mother, who had appeared to be so much in love with his father, has married
Claudius, which presents a related theme between the two stories, incest. For Hamlet
as the play opens, existence is a burden, he seems tormented by the events happening
around him. Although in the start, he conducted himself with more composure, his
mood and actions become more manic later on when he meets the ghost. The subject
of insanity is something he and Oedipus have in common. Furthermore, the misery
hamlet shows at the beginning is comparable to what Oedipus develops in the end.
Oedipus was more ignorant towards the truth, regardless of how conspicuous it
may be. He is unable to see the reality of his origin, and the realization of the oracle
s prophecy through his own actions. I curse myself as well...if by any chance he
proves to be an intimate of our

The Great Gatsby is rich in symbolism which functions on several levels and in a

symbolizing a higher world from which God looks down upon the scene. The color
blue, in a sense, brings a window of hope into a land that is dead. Blue also
symbolizes the unhappy relationship of Tom and Daisy. The color blue has always
been known to represent a melancholy disposition or situation. Because it is based
on money instead of love, Tom and Daisy s relationship is undoubtedly blue. Blue
also represents fantasy and is a symbol of a different world. In [Gatsby s] blue

people can go to get away from reality. His parties are out of touch with the real

Sixteenth century Europe was amidst the most prominent religious changes,
stemming from a single German priest who started the domino effect now known as
the Reformation. Embraced by Northern Humanism, a Renaissance ideal that spread
to the Holy Roman Empire, Martin Luther picked out the major corruptions of the
Catholic Church and began his own branch of religion known as Protestantism.
Protestants and Catholics became stone cold enemies. The battle for legitimacy of
Protestantism was a strenuous battle, but finally came to the light at the end of the
tunnel in 1555 when the Peace of Augsburg was signed and issued, giving German
princes the power to choose between Protestantism and Catholicism (Coy). Yet, just

Before the war, Germany was actually amidst a period of economic success. The
rivalry of feuding neighboring princes who engaged in the Protestant vs Catholic

we see financial limitations on a regional and national level, from the studies and
collections of 17th century wages in Germany from Moritz J. Elsass. Inama Sternegg
stated the population decline in the Holy Roman Empire throughout the Thirty Years
War was about two thirds. Urban populations took to the economic decline the
hardest. Magdeburg shrunk in population by 96% (Rabb). There were no gains in
population or economic prosperity, mainly losses and at best stagnation. Nowhere did
the Holy Roman Empire benefit from the Thirty Years War. The population decline

Hey, Jude was written by The Beatles band member, Paul McCartney in 1970.
McCartney originally titled the song as Hey, Jules as an ode to John Lennon s son
Jules, who was in the forefront of his parents divorce. McCartney ultimately decided
to change the title to Hey, Jude after hearing the name in a movie and liking the
sound of the name. The voice of Hey, Jude is encouraging and urges Jude to not give

Jude s life. Hey, Jude contains poetic elements that add to the overall effect of the

Multiple sound techniques are used in Hey, Jude to aide the song to take a poetic feel.
McCartney, the lead singer, physically sings the song in a happy, almost
encouraging manner. John, George, and Ringo, the other band members, add
backup vocals to aide McCartney in bringing forth an encouraging tone. The tempo
of the music is 3 beats per measure, which is moderately fast. Given that the fast
tempo helps give the song an upbeat and encouraging tone, it contributes to the
effect of the song. The stanzas of Hey, Jude are relatively similar in length, each
having a similar rhyme scheme. The words of the song follow a pattern of stressed
and unstressed syllables, which is referred to as rhythm. The rhythm greatly affects
how the listener interprets that meaning. Repetition of phrases like, Hey, Jude, and,
Then you can start to make it better, are used to emphasize the phrases importance in
the song. The repetition allows listeners to remember the line and, because of this, is
considered a way McCartney manipulated sound. McCartney used tricks within the
music, like rhythm and repetition, to create a poetic feeling. The feeling the music
brings forth adds to the overall effect of the song. All things considered, the
comprehensive meaning of the song Hey, Jude has changed for me as I carefully
listened for the McCartney s use of poetry. Paul

3.The Kite Runner handles the issue of ethnic segregation in Afghanistan with an
illustration of the relationship in the middle of Pashtuns and Hazaras. Baba s dad
sets an illustration for him of being kind to Hazara individuals, despite the fact that
they are verifiably disparaged and mistreated. He could have effectively sent Ali to
a halfway house after his guardians passing, however decided to bring him up in his
family unit. Baba does likewise with Hassan, in spite of the fact that this is
entangled by the way that Hassan is really his child. Indeed in Baba s home, the

48. How Does Shakespeare Use Cinematic Techniques In Romeo
And...
Romeo + Juliet is a modernised film of Romeo and Juliet, which was written by
William Shakespeare in the 1600 s. The director, Baz Luhrmann is the director the
film. He uses cinematic techniques to help make the old english that was used in
Shakespeare s times understandable and intriguing to a modern audience. Some of
the many techniques used are music, costumes, props, camera angles, lighting and
diegetic sound. The movie also has symbolism to convey the idea of Romeo and
Juliet s chaotic, star crossed love. The movie is set in a modern Verona Beach. Within
minutes, the opening prologue, from Shakespeare s play, hurls us into the intense
amount of rage between the two families this is what makes the beginning so
memorable for the audience.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story of a young girl falling in love at first sight and be willing to die for her
love is a difficult concept for a modern audience to relate to. To enforce this idea,
the director had to make sure of a few things. The first being to make sure the
audience could easily accept that Romeo is a naive guy, hoping for love to come
his way. And secondly, Juliet being so innocent she could fall in love with Romeo
so easily. These ideas are portrayed in believable characteristics when we first see
Romeo and Juliet in the film. When Romeo makes his debut in the movie, he is
seen depressed. He is seen smoking a cigarette whilst writing poetry and glaring
aimlessly up, at a grey cloudy day. Both the cigarette and weather can be viewed a
type of symbolism in the movie. The camera shots zoom on Romeo s face,
showing the audience his melancholic facials which informs them about how he is
feeling. The director uses these types of shots throughout the movie to show the
raw emotional back story of the characters. For example, when the priest is told
that Romeo wants to marry Juliet, the camera zooms into to show his face which
is in awe and disbelief; informing the audience about how the character, the priest,
is feeling. In this instance for Romeo, these shots capture the impress of a young
lad who is lost and upset. Soon after this, Juliet is introduced as being a young girl
with an innocent personality. Her parents speak of her still being a stranger to the
world by saying She is still very young. This phrase informs the audience that she is
young, naive and can easily fall for any handsome guy that comes her way. Through
the movie this is done in many different ways, such as dialogue, symbolism and in
other scenes is done through the emphasis of the close ups. The director emphasises

when the election was between Nixon and Kennedy it still relates to current elections
between Trump and Clinton. Today s politicians are no better than the ones from the
past. However, Gore Vidalgives his character William Russell a set of morals. He

personalities that are similar. The script also has some differences with today s

There are many similarities with the characters in the play and today s politicians. In
the same way that The Best Man depicts Cantwell and Russell, one can easily notice
the rivalry between Trump and Clinton. For instance, Cantwell stole Russell s health

The school board meeting I attended was the Norris School District. The meeting
was located at Norris Middle School in the Mary Louise Robinson Library. The
address was 6940 Calloway Dr. at seven PM. The Norris school district contains
four elementary schools and one middle school. Total number of elected board
members are five. The board president is Cy Silver. They meet once a month on the
second Wednesday. The board is required to address the reports from superintendent
and staff. Such as enrollment, district proposition 39 California clean energy job
acts funding, district cafeteria report, local control accountability plan progress
report. They also discuss new business such as approving budgets and achievements.
The general format of the meeting is the board members sit in the front of the
general attendees and the president sits in the middle of all the board members. Staff
members sit to the right and left of the board members. The atmosphere was very
welcoming, and they spoke of the business like they actually cared. They spent about
one hour discussing the cafeteria report. I thought this was quite interesting. They

business they discuss is different as well. All of the members were friendly and
respectful with each other. There has to be more diversity in all of the districts.

51. A Theory of Justice Essay
A Theory of Justice
Communitarian critics of Rawls have argued that his A Theory of Justice provides an
inadequate account of individuals in the original position. Michael Sandel, in
Liberalism and the Limits of Justice argues that Rawls conception of the person
divorces any constitutive attachments that persons might have to their ends. Hence,
Sandel asserts that Rawls privileges the standpoint of self interested individuals at
the expense of communal interests. I do not find Sandel s specific criticisms to be an
accurate critique of what Rawls is doing in A Theory of Justice. However, this does
not mean the more general thrust of the communitarian analysis of Rawls conception

The parties in the original position function as representatives of actual citizens in
society. However, unlike actual citizens, the parties in the original position lack
certain specific social facts that would bias their decisions on what the best possible
principles of justice would be. Hence, in the original position, individuals are thought
of as lacking certain knowledge, behind a veil of ignorance, and as guided by rational
choice. The parties in the original position then choose the founding principles of
justice that will guide the institutions of an actual well ordered society.
By neglecting certain facts about particular societies, communitarian theorists have
argued that Rawls theory of justice provides an inadequate conception of the
individual in the original position. Some critics have taken more specific aim and
argue that A Theory of Justice privileges the standpoint of self interested individuals
while inadequately accounting for communal interests. Michael Sandel in his work
Liberalism and the Limits of Justice advances this criticism of Rawls. Sandel
contends that by separating a person s ends from her identity, Rawls cannot allow for
any ends to be constitutive of an individual and hence communal. Because individuals
are not attached to their ends, they cannot but choose the principles of justice based
on self interest.
I do not find this to be a fair

It is necessary for Australians to understand and respect the differences between Asian
countries to fully enjoy the benefits of the Asian century. To think of Asian simply as

comprehend these differences, and the Australian government had been attempting to
achieve this goal in different ways. The Australia in the Asian century white paper

How West Side Story Misrepresents Puerto Ricans
The west side story is a story about two gangs, the Sharks, who represent the Puerto
Ricans and Jets, representing the real Americans . The two gangs are ever at
loggerheads, with hatred and constant confrontations best describing their
relationship. Many critics have shot down the praise of this film, by openly stating
that, it falsely represented Puerto Ricans, by how it depicted them. The story itself is
based in the 1950s, in one of the neighborhoods in New York City. (HernГ
Ўndez
Vazquez 2002, 371). The neighborhood is a hard place to live in and from the start
we are introduced to two warring groups fighting for the control of the
neighborhood. This neighborhood is a place where ethnic and racial profiling are
strife (Sandoval Sanchez 1999, 72). This paper discusses how the west side story,
silences some of the historical injustices associated with the united states colonialism
of Puerto Rico and then try to bring out how the Puerto Ricans characters are
stereotypically portrayed in the film.
The west side story tries to silence the historical injustices associated with United
States colonialism of Puerto Rico in a number of ways. In the beginning, we are
introduced to Puerto Ricans who are referred to as the sharks, to portray them as the
bad guys and then we have the Jets who represent the
