Formalism And Realism In Film
Short Critical Essay #3 Option 2 Classical film theories are generally divided into two main
camps. They have been categorized as Formalism and Realism. The formalist approach looks at
the structure and form of the film. It analyzes the method by which the story materializes and how
it forces the viewer to react based on the way it is presented. It incorporates character development,
photographic composition, camera movement, set design, editing, etc. to that end. The realist
approach scrutinizes how a film represents reality. It is a mechanical reproduction of reality that
strives for objectivity and realism. The primary focus is always every day, true to life characters
and dilemmas, and the real life situations they are found in. Commonplace themes are the rule. To
achieve realism in cinema it was necessary to direct attention to the physical and philosophic
problems of ordinary existence. People emerge as victims of forces beyond their control in a world
at times seemingly spinning out of control. Although there are also a few similarities, formalism
and realism can be shown to offer substantially different approaches to the art of filmmaking and the
study of film. Realism is a style of filmmaking that attempts to duplicate the look of objective reality
with emphasis on authentic locations and details, long shots, lengthy takes, and a minimum of
distortion. Andre Bazin championed cinematic realism. He identifies Realism as a movement of
filmmakers who put their

Structure of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and...
The Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC) has traditionally operated under a function
organization structure within state government that clearly separated services provided into two
primary categories: prisons and parole services with both categories reporting to the agency
Director. An organization structure based on functions provides a clear direction for job
requirements, allows the opportunity for staff to become experts in their field of assignment, which
increases productivity. Although this structure was successfully utilized by the DRC for many
years, unintentionally, it created a separation between levels of management and their subordinates
and division and a division between the agency s prisonand parole services.... Show more content on

This office works with local criminal justice officials and community and state agencies to provide
safe, meaningful reentry into the community. This is done by providing opportunities for offenders
to change behaviors or situations, which brought about their incarceration. Possibly one of the most
crucial offices within the DRC is the Office of Research and Evaluation. This Office develops
information reporting systems regarding recidivism, prepares regular reports, conducts program
evaluations, and provides research studies to aide in policy making. The offices described above are
by no means representative of every office and function within the Ohio DRC; they are merely a
snapshot of the major functions that keep the system running. It is common knowledge that no
organization can function without people; thus, we must also address the personnel and their
demographics.
The Ohio DRC, according to the 2013 Annual Report, employs 11,803 administrative employees,
6,400 correctional officers, and 434 parole officers throughout the State. Among the correctional
officers, 1,221 are female and 5,179 are male. The female correctional officers are represented by
792 Caucasian, 406 African American, and 23 Other. The male officers are made up of 4,377

What Makes President George Washington A Good President
The United States had just claimed their independence from Britain, and was now seeking for a
strong leader to run the young nation. Unanimously, General George Washington was chosen for
the position as president due to his leadership skills that were displayed while leading the
continental forces. Washington set the standard for how future presidents should run the country
and shaped the face of the nation for many years to come with his social life, the policies he
established, and how he made the presidential office powerful. Washington s social life was
organized and relaxing, and in turn set a prime example of how the president should live his life.
During the day, Washington handled government business while the late afternoons were for
meetings with the public, and the nights were set aside for dinner parties. As stated by the text,
Washington spent his days doing the business of government and set aside the late afternoon for
meetings with the public and evenings for dinner parties with invited guests, (Stockwell).... Show

text states, Washington made the office of the presidency powerful by appointing a cabinet,
(Stockwell). Washington s preferred title and choice of terms strayed away from the ideas of a
monarchy and he was aware of the fact that he needed to set these precedents in order to make sure
the presidency would run effectively. These precedents began to form the U.S. government and set

Spain Anti Corruption Essay
Spain has been suffering for the recent few years because of the corruption. Many countries have
corruption and most of us know about them but they still have relationships with other countries.
Also, many countries have bribery, people who work with the government take money or things
such as gifts and tickets to travel for free from the citizens to facilitate applicant conversely. In
addition, this can hurt people s rights and living. However, Spain governmentand citizen should be a
one hand to regret of this corruption.
Spain government should solve this problem to improve citizens live and rights. According to
WWW.transparency.org, To stop grand corruption scandals and end systemic corruption the
Spanish government must act immediately. The first step should be to reverse the appointment of
the anti corruption prosecutor who has been widely called into question for a potential lack of
impartiality given his links to the ruling party . This means that they must start with the anti
corruption prosecutor because they corruption might be from them and to improve the country
situation, they must start with the people who work with the government.
In the other hand, the companies are not affected by the corruption in Spain, so the most party who
are affected are the citizens. According to www.business anti corruption.com, There is no evidence
suggesting that corruption in the courts is an obstacle for businesses in Spain. Companies

Great Gatsby, Winter Dreams, And The Curious Case Of...
When we re living our life, sooner or later we ll have to confront one event where it will make us
reevaluate our life choices and it will be considered as an epiphany. This emotional turmoil is
one of the issues, if not, the biggest reason Winter Dreams is such a treat to most readers. Winter
Dreams was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, an American author born in Saint Paul, MN in 1896,
and deceased in December 21, 1940 in Los Angeles, California. During these 44 years Fitzgerald
s works achieved an enormous recognition and appreciation from the public, to the point where
these works became staples in today s literature with stories like The Great Gatsby, Winter
Dreams, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. These pieces became staples in the American
literature mainly because Fitzgerald developed an expertise to illustrate the Jazz Age in his
artworks. For example, the way he describes the scenarios and the lavish life of the higher class in
The Great Gatsby, and Winter Dreams. But what is truly intriguing about Fitzgerald s pieces is the
subtle darkness he utilizes in his pieces. As we ll explore in Winter Dreams.... Show more content

Blue Ocean Strategy At France s Insead Business School
Life is full of games, in which we always want to be the winner. Most of the time, to accomplish
this, we are ready to do whatever it takes to win without thinking how it effects others around us
and this leads the game to get bloody and the players to be merciless. The same pattern of struggle
for winning and the sense of game is relevant in the business world. In their book Blue Ocean
Strategy, W. Chan Kim and RenГ©e Mauborgne strategy professors at France s INSEAD
business school, proved that in this sphere, games don t always have to be this bloody by
conveying a world where companies profit and grow in a competition free environment. Reading
and discovering more than 150 business researches, Kim and Mauborgne help us to discover the
idea of this sphere, so called blue ocean, which became an essential in strategic business thinking.
In this review, we are going to summarize and analyze the strategies which Kim and Mauborgne
conveys.
Blue Ocean Strategy advocates that for a company to be successful, creating and opening a new
market space that no one has entered before is essential. In order to gain and to sustain the value
innovation, every single corporate and business owner should create and discover contentious
areas of the market that is ready to grow. This market place is called the blue ocean , a term that
should be, but still is not, a keystone for the managers. The book accepts the fact that this strategy
is not seen applicable enough by saying too risky

How Does John Locke Defends The Right To Private Property
John Locke defends the right to private property in Second Treatise of Government by
transforming Biblical principles into Capitalist principles. Locke explores nine steps that stem
from the Book of Genesis to explain in a positive way how men could come to own various
particular parts of something that Godgave to mankind in common (Locke 11). Locke believes that
the unnatural inequality is perfectly acceptable. because he notes that some people work harder
than others so they deserve more. The only way to ensure his argument is to guarantee that private
propertyis secured by divinity, otherwise men can give and take away property freely, which
includes the sovereign.
Locke begins his argument by recounting that God gave the earth to man

Essay On The Debates Between Abraham Lincoln And Stephen...
Archaeologists have traditionally viewed the list of seven debates between Abraham Lincoln and
Stephen A. Douglas through the 1858 Illinois state voting campaign as amongst the most important
declarations in American imperial history. Those concerns they addressed were not only of crucial
significance to the regional dispute over states rights and slavery but also covered deeper into
issues that would proceed to change political dialogue. What is usually neglected is that these
contests were a component of the comprehensive campaign, that they were intended to achieve
some main policy objectives, and that they showed the features of mid nineteenth century political
speech . Douglas, being part of Congress as from 1843 and a famous nationwide spokesperson for
the Democratic body, was contesting for another election for a third season in the Senate, whereas
Lincoln was vying for the same seat as a Republican1. Due to Douglas s political development, the
campaign captivated nationwide attention. Despite the fact that senators were selected by the state
parliaments until 1913, Lincoln and Douglas took their contentions straight to the citizens. The
time of the operations, the setting of sectional enmity in which it was argued, the slavery issue,...

How Does Roark Have Integrity
In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead, the protagonist Howard Roark is an idealistic architect
struggling to create modern structures in the face of those stuck in the ways of the past. This
novel calls into question the practicality of morality, and whether or not it inhibits personal and
social growth. Roark s character ties together independence and integrity to create a man who is
successful even when defying social norms. These two qualities are perceived by Rand as ideal
for human beings, which is why Roark is eventually successful in his endeavors to create his
designs. Roark s independence reflects Rand s preference of individualism to collectivism, as no
one person should be thought for nor should he think for others. Through his journey, Roark learns
from others like Henry Cameron, but in the end, he must create solely for himself, not for others.

Integrity first requires an individual to hold beliefs and act upon them, refusing to sacrifice these
beliefs for others. Every man must be held accountable for his own thoughts and actions, which
includes defending these thoughts and actions. To be free of integrity means one lacks true morals
and is cowardly, a view Rand opposes. Roark epitomizes Rand s belief as he faces against pressures
from corporations and public opinions to design his perfect building. He unwaveringly chooses to
pursue his building designs because Roark knows standing behind his building will ultimately bring
him more satisfaction than if he caved to others. Characters like Ellsworth Toohey and Gail
Wynand attempt to control others through their social influences as writers but end up controlled
by public opinions, resulting in the loss of their careers and more. Their lack of integrity stems
from the inability to think for themselves, and ultimately they cannot function independently like

Harappan Stone Bead Making And Pottery
Harappan stone bead making and pottery are important aspects in identifying different
archaeological time periods. Craft specialization is an indicator of societies becoming more
complex. Stone bead making and pottery are both different types of craft specialization which
indicate that the early of cities and villages of the Harappan period have become more aware of
society and economy. In Kenoyer, Vidale, and Bhan s Contemporary stone bead making in
Khambat, India, the stone beadmaking industry is studied and described as important for
supporting the state, (Kenoyer, Vidale, Bhan 1991). This occupational specialization let to the
development of an organized social structure that was closely monitored. Although there are
many references to multiple craft specializations at different sites, this article focuses on craft
specialization that appears to be identified with highly ranked societies. The fact that some
scholars associate craft specialization with these highly ranked societies is incorrect because in
all societies technology was important and required individuals to be able to produce items
efficiently. The ability to create specific and efficient technology requires specialization which is
a sign of economic and social adaptions, (Rice 1984). Craft specialization was an adaptive
process because the ability to gather raw materials and produce special objects required a high
level of competence and ability to work together. These individuals had to learn how to

Comparing The Enuma Elish And Book Of Genesis
As written in the Old Testament the Creation Story describing how the Earth and mankind were
created became a fundamental part of Judaism and Christianity. Creation myths similar to the
Judaic and Christian creation myth are found in other ancient civilizations and cultures of the Near
East such as the Sumerians, Akkadians, Assyrians, Babylonians and the Persians. The Enuma Elish
also known as the Seven Tablets of Creation, written as early as 1800BC, and discovered, in
1849AD, exhibits parallels to the creation as described in the Old Testament. These seven tablets
written in a combination of Sumerian Akkadian cuneiform script details the creation of the Earthand

From the Canaanite dialect of the Semitic language the word lehem, which is the last part of the
name of Bethlehem means city of bread. Scholars such as William Albright along with others
claim that the lehem comes from the older Semitic root word Lahmu and Lahamu, instead of the
Canaanite word meaning bread. Two other words that have similar meanings are Tiamat and
Tehowm. From Sumerian, Babylonian mythology Tiamat is the goddess of the primordial
oceans and bearer of sky and the Earth and the Hebrew word Tehowm is a derivate of the
Ugaritic Semitic dialect t h m, which is from the root word of the Akkadian Semitic dialect

Tiamat came from. The word Tehowm means the deep or the abyss and also makes reference to
the biblical primordial waters of creation as used in Genesis 1:2, from the Orthodox Jewish Bible,

Energy Consumption Before The 50 s
The first interesting thing that I learned from the lecture is related to the annual residential total
energy consumption from before the 50s and until the 00s. I expected the energy consumption per
household to increase with time, because technology is developing and it requires more energy than
it did before and that was my assumption. However, I was surprised to know that the energy
consumption before the 50s was at its maximum then it decreased until it reached its minimum in
the 80s and increased after that. Houses built before the 50s were inefficient in their energy
consumption resulting in energy consumption being at its maximum. Nevertheless, houses built in
the 80s were small compared to current houses and therefore consumed less

Dna With Natural Catalysts
The approach described above is novel and original because we are integrating the high level of
programmability of DNA with natural catalysts, which are very significant to progress in many
different scientific fields. Such integration enables coupling of enzymes to circuits that are capable
of decision making and self regulation, leading to an unprecedented level of control of catalytic
reactions. To achieve our objectives, we will develop methods to systematically design, model and
test both dynamic and structural components. We will also create software and mathematical tools
that can predict the dynamic behavior of individual catalytic modules and multi modular circuits.
When compared to existing techniques and protocols for multi enzyme reactions, our system has
multiple advantages: (1) Multi enzyme reactions typically require laborious purification after
each step and this can also result in loss of valuable sample. By sequestering enzymes within a
crystal and then activating each enzyme one after another in proper order, we can avoid
purification steps between each reaction. Leakage of enzymes from crystal lattice can be pre
vented using semi permeable blockades that will block enzymes by will allow the substrate to
pass in and out. (2) Enclosure inside crystal lattices will provide additional stability and protective
cover to sensitive enzymes, thus keeping them active and stable for longer periods of time. (3) In
case of multi enzyme reactions, sequestering all

Essay On The Third Amendment
In 1789, the Congress created the Bill of Rights to make sure the people are protected and the
government has limitations. The Third Amendment states, No soldier shall, in time of peace be
quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be
prescribed by law. ( Bill of Rights ). Throughout the years the amendments have been manipulated,
in a way, to be used in a certain way. In researching the Third Amendment, one will find the past and
present of the Quartering of Soldiers through the origins of the law, modern application of the

Today it protects the people s privacy of their house. When it was created it standed for that now

soldiers in their homes, even in time of war. (Wood). Also, Amendment 3 purpose today is to
protect the people from intruding their house. Amendment 3 supports Amendment 4, search and
seizure law, both laws ties into the rights of privacy. Ending, one can indicate that the Third
Amendment s application has differed from the 21st century and the era it was created in.
Court cases are examples of how the application of the law changed. Through the Griswold case the
Third Amendment protects the invasion of privacy by the government. The court held that
statement and they also asked if they would let the government search the bedrooms in that case.
The Court explained that the right to privacy was inherent in the First, Third, Fourth, Fifth, and
Ninth Amendments. The Bill of Rights created zones of privacy into which the government could
not intrude. ( Griswold V. Connecticut). In the Griswold case, the Third Amendment and some
other amendments protected the rights of privacy which helped Ms. Griswold. Closing up, the
Griswold case is an example how the law applies in the world now.
In the present, the Third Amendment is rarely used by the Supreme Court and is least used in the
Bill of Rights showing the application has

How College Dating Has Changed My Life
College dating has changed a lot since my parents went to school. Courtship and chivalry are dead,
or extremely hard to find, and a majority of college students are involved in the hookup culture. A
hookup is a nonromantic encounter with a friend or acquaintance that involves an unspecified
degree of sexual interaction, (Carpenter and DeLamater 129). When I first started college, I had a
very nice relationshipthat lasted about 3 months. When we both decided to just be friends, it
dawned on me that I could sleep with whomever I wanted to. During my second semester in
college, I more than doubled the amount of guys I slept with in high school and I know why I
did it. I let myself engage in hookup culture because I wanted to rebel against my parents, have
some sense of intimacy without commitment, experience new things, and it was so much fun to
brag about with my girlfriends. However, after a while I began to miss what I had during my first
semester, someone who actually cared about me and wanted to be with me for more than just sex. I
often hear numerous complaints in college about not being able to find a significant other. This
new style of dating, or hookup culture, lacks a sense of respect and doesn t allow for an emotional
closeness with those students find attractive. It encourages college students to suppress their
emotions in order to gain sexual intimacy and that wanting a committed relationship is a thing of

Urbanization and Social Disparities in Cities, Questions...
Question 1: Cities as Locus for Political Debate
Cities are plots of land, densely covered with built environment, inhabited by dwellers; however
cities are also vast network hubs, linking social, economic and political flows. Cities possess
enormous human capital: they encourage exchange of ideas and intellectual opportunities. Cities
are conceived upon diversity encountering individuals with different believes and points of view,
coming from very different backgrounds one has a chance to test his own convictions against those
of others. Cities therefore are constantly evolving subjects, where one continues to learn every
minute; they also become arenas for political action and organization. In my essay I am going to
discuss how through close spatial proximity and interrelation of different socio economic groups
important political questions are being raised.
With examples from different world regions, such as India, US and Brazil it is possible to distill a
trend that urban setting through compact spatial organization provides exposure to various
viewpoints and encourages its dwellers to take action, to attempt to solve infrastructural problems
and organize in political groups. It is both in the city center and the periphery where people become
involved into performative politics. I would argue, that physical proximity and socio economic
difference present simultaneously in one space no matter whether in the center or in periphery
foster one s involvement in

How to Make the Best Cookie
How Do You Make the Best Cookie? Who doesn t love a good cookie? The quest for that melt in
your mouth, gooey, and blissful tasting cookie is a never ending battle. My science experiment
will answer the age old question: Is it possible to make the perfect cookie? My science
experiment is identifying the best method for making the most delicious cookie. If I vary the
amount of time I refrigerate the cookie dough, then the batch that was freshly baked will be moister
and ultimately taste better because the wet ingredients will not have been absorbed yet. To perform
this experiment I will need to use three medium sized mixing bowls, an electric mixer, measuring
spoons and measuring cups to correspond to the recipe,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This delay is called the incubation period. Most organisms take up temporary residencies in the
intestines, while others produce toxins that can get into the blood stream; these are the most
severe cases of foodborne illness. This is why food safety is imperative to this experiment.
Everything must be at the proper temperature to be consumed. If it is not, then the outcome will
not be good. I will take every measure possible to make sure that everything is correct. So why
would these foods spoil if they weren t refrigerated? Pathogenic bacteria grows rapidly in
temperatures above 4.4В°C (40В°F). This type of bacteria does not affect the smell, taste, or
appearance of the food, making it difficult to determine whether or not the pathogens are present.
By refrigerating foods at the correct temperature, you are eliminating the chances of these
harmful pathogens growing in your food and contaminating them. For example, if you
accidentally left a jug of milk on the counter overnight it would become warm and develop a
rancid odor. If you were to drink it, the chances of you getting a foodborne illness would be high
considering that the harmful pathogens had time to grow. Spoilage bacteria can also grow at low
temperatures, however they cause foods to develop disgusting odors and appearances. Most
people would not choose to eat these foods, but if they did they would most likely not become ill.

Thucydides Accounts of the Degradation of Athenian Honor
Thucydides account of the Peloponnesian war served as a window into Athenian societal culture.
Carrying the reader from Pericles moving speech to the assembly, through Cleon and Diodotus
oratory battle over the fate of Mytilene, and finally to the Athenian proposal to the Melians,
Thucydides detailed the transformation of Athens from a state based on justice and freedom to a
empire with a corrupted soul. This corruption did not occur over night, but was the result of
increasing tyrannical behavior by the part of Athens in its interactions with other Greek city states.
The stages of this development can be analyzed into three parts: Pericleswar speech, the dialogue
on Mytilene, and the Melian debate. Pericles speech was propagated by the horn of war against the
Lacedaemonians. In the midst of the conflict, the Athenians called an assembly to determine their
course of action. Their choices were to either agree to Spartas demands, which included
dismantling the siege of Potidaea, freeing Aegina from their rule, and cancelling their embargo of
Megara, or war. At this juncture, the prime Athenian statesman, Pericles, presented his advice:
never give in. For Pericles, Athens can never subjugate itself to any power and must fight for its
autonomy. In order to win the war, Athens must focus on its people and avoid mistakes. They
cannot base their campaign on saving their property, but keeping the integrity of their forces. This
stance is exemplified as Pericles said,

My Observations of Classrooms
Description of Class Setting
I was given permission to conduct my child study project in PAP community Foundation (Bukit
Batok East Education Centre) by Miss Denise Lim, principal of the centre. The teacher present at
all my observation sessions was Miss Moriah. All the observation sessions were conducted in a
classroom setting in the Hibiscus room. The first two observation sessions were at least an hour
long with 15 20 minutes of frontal teaching and another 40 to 45 minutes of classwork in their
group tables. The last session was carried out in the same setting but at a different timing with half
an hour of snack time and half an hour of emotional awareness session. The frontal teaching part
was carried out with the students seated in their groups on the floor facing the teacher and the
whiteboard. Students were assigned to carry out their classwork at three different group coloured
tables namely, red, yellow and blue.
Description of class
The class consists of 15 to 16 Kindergarten two students. All of them are 5 to 6 year olds. 5 of the
students are Indians, 5 are Chinese, 3 are Malay students. and 2 are Filipinos nationals.
Background of child
The child was selected and issued the parent s consent form the day before session 1. Before the

Essay Feminist Defeat and Perseverance
In Simone de Beauvoir s The Woman Destroyed, the reader is given a deep psychological portrait
of a women s failing marriage. Not only does Beauvoir show us the thoughts and confidences of
one beset by inner turmoil, she also portrays for us the marriage as it appears from the outside. The
main character in The WomanDestroyed is the narrator Monique. She has been married to her
husband Maurice for over twenty years and is trying to keep herself emotionally together after the
realization that he is having an affair. Other characters the author introduces are the couple s two
daughters, Colette and Lucienne. Colette has recently married and moved out of her parent s house.

It seems clear that Monique embodies aspects of Beauvoir s personality. More importantly,
however, Monique is a device which allows Beauvoir to set forth her message for all modern
women. Beauvoir would prefer for us to feel that suffering does have some purpose, especially
when it comes at the hands of others. As the story is set in France in the mid part of the 20th
century, this suffering takes place in a modern marriage. We are given enough information to
realize that this modern woman doesn t see herself as an independent spirit. In fact, she chooses a
more traditional role in her marriage, one where she deals with her husband s affair by looking the
other way. Beauvoir s message to the reader relies upon this fragile state to show us how Monique
could ultimately persevere. It is by reconciling the classic with the modern that her tortured
femininity comes through. She will eventually draw for us an image of a woman caught between
these societal currents, driven mad by both.
The story can be broken into three parts, each part corresponding to a two month period during
Monique s breakdown. In the first

Comparing Documentaries And Insane Films
Although the most popular, the commercial film industry is not the only way to produce and
project motion pictures to targeted audiences. Documentaries and avant garde films have their own
guidelines, production values, technological innovations, budgets, and overall viewership that differ
greatly from that of fiction based films. Many avant garde films are made not only to challenge the
existing use of filmitself but also to express the personal views or experiences of the screenwriter
and/or director. In most cases, fiction based film focuses on telling the story of a character rather
than shedding light on their life and challenging the presentation of the narrative. Commercial film

Commercial film narratives can also drift from the reality of our world by creating fictional lands,

aspect of film documentary can make or break the perception the audience has of it, the filmmaker
to either choose to focus on their own culture or expand their point of view towards another culture.
Many documentaries exploring different cultures can be highly successful, but there is always a
chance of the film failing if the filmmaker fails to show this other culture in a way to best represent

playwriting. Some people still today, with all the knowledge we have about his think he may not

Shakespeare was a man that wrote many pieces, and many inspired and helped teach other people a
lesson.
We don t really know what Shakespeare s life was really like but we can get a general idea from
the pieces he has written. In all of his many great works, William Shakespeare remains a strange
man when it comes to his history. There are just two sources of information on the Shakespeare
and his works, and some documents that have survived from Elizabeth s time. There are many
holes in this piece of information, it tells us little about Shakespeare and who he really was (

Critical Analysis Of Forrest Gump
Its hero, played by Tom Hanks, is a thoroughly decent man with an IQ of 75, who manages
between the 1950s and the 1980s to become involved in every major event in American history.
And he survives them all with only honesty and kindness as his shields. And yet this is not a
heartwarming story about a mentally retarded man. That cubbyhole is much too small and limiting
for Forrest Gump. The movie is more of a meditation on our times, as seen through the eyes of a
man who lacks cynicism and takes things for exactly what they are. Watch him carefully and you
will understand why some people are criticized for being too clever by half. Forrest is clever by
just exactly enough. Tom Hanksmay be the only actor who could have played the role. I can t
think of anyone else as Gump, after seeing how Hanks makes him into a person so dignified, So
straight ahead. The performance is a breathtaking balancing act between comedy and sadness, in
a story rich in big laughs and quiet truths. Forrest is born to an Alabama boardinghouse Owner
(Sally Field) who tries to correct his posture by making him wear braces, but who never criticizes
his mind. When Forrest is called stupid, his mother tells him, Stupid is as stupid does, and Forrest
turns out to be incapable of doing anything less than profound. Also, when the braces finally fall
from his legs, it turns out he can run like the wind. That s how he gets a college football

Essay on Two Methods of Defending the Trinity
Two Methods of Defending the Trinity
Christians believe in one God, yet the apparent contradictory nature of the Trinity is such that it has
caused many to doubt whether Christianity is indeed monotheistic. This has consequently caused
Christians to defend their monotheism in relation to the Trinity. In the two such defensesthat are
studied in this essay, we find that Christians have explained the nature of Trinity with varying
degrees of effectiveness and success. Timothy the Patriarch defends the Trinity before the Caliph
Madhi with few compelling arguments, and Gregory of Nyssa explains it in a more abstract and
therefore more effective way. Each however defends the Trinity according to his understanding of it.

Timothy offers several apt analogies comparing the Trinity to earthly things, yet he fails to offer a
compelling argument to refute the Caliph s simple yet powerful statement: If He is one, He is not
three; and if He is three he is not one; what is this contradiction? (69).
The most obvious of Timothy s logical errors is that he assumes (naturally) that the Son of the
Trinity is in fact the Christ or Messiah of the Hebrew Scripture. He therefore refers to Hebrew
Scripture to show that the Son is equal and not subservient to the Father: God, therefore, called
Christ a Lord through the prophet David, and since no true lord is a servant, it follows that
Christ is not a servant (82). The flaw in this logic, or at least the reason for its failure to convince
the Caliph, lies in the fact that the Caliph cannot believe that Jesus is the Christ. The logic is also
flawed from a modern point of view, for there the writers of the Hebrew Scripture knew neither
Jesus nor the concept of the Trinity. It would therefore be anachronistic to use such references or to
claim for example that the We of the creation story in Genesis refers to the Christian Trinity.
Timothy makes similar mistakes in reference to the Koran and the Gospels. He says, It is also

One cycle that was visually observed was the water cycle. Shown in the Amount of and

of droplets, most of the time the condensation was much like a mist, having just evaporated and
not yet condensed. However, as it condensed, there were fewer droplets. As the droplets got
bigger, they would rain down in the jar as precipitation due to gravity. Then, the cycle repeated,
as shown by the graph. Another cycle that must have been in the jar for life to survive was the
carbon and oxygen cycle. In order for the organisms to access new oxygen after the initial air was
trapped in the jar, producers supplied the animals with oxygen, seen as bubbles in the algae
throughout the observation period. In addition, since the algae survived and appeared to have
grown, the organisms must have been supplying the producers with their necessary carbon

California s Three-Strike Law
The Three Strikes Law has three different components. Just like marriage, driving, and educational
laws the Three Strikes law has its own version in every state. Unfortunately California s Three
Strikes law is causing the most controversy. The three parts in California s law are the defendant s
record of prior convictions, the current charge and the minimum punishment the defendant is
facing. A man or woman has to be convicted of two felonies and charged with another one before
the Three Strikes law can come into play. Dictionary.com defines a felonyas an offense, as murder
or burglary, of graver character than those called misdemeanors, especially those commonly
punished in the U.S. by imprisonment for more than a year (Brauchli).
The first strike that someone has on their record has to be from a serious or violent crime. Some of
the controversy derives from what the law considers a serious offense. The second strike
happens when there was a prior conviction that was a violent or serious crime. When a suspect is
facing his or her second strike the required time is doubled. For example, if the court gave
someone seven years for a felony, they would receive fourteen years. When a person receives their
third strike on their record with any felony conviction their time jumps up to twenty five to life.
The offender can not receive parole until eighty percent or twenty years of their time is served
(Brauchli).

destination tickets not kept by a player are returned to draw pile for later in the game. Note that
some versions of the game remove any discarded tickets from play for the rest of the game. An

On a player s turn, he/she chooses one of three options: Build a train connecting two adjacent

the route with the longer routes earning more points per train token. Routes of length one and two

Themes Of Social Mobility Through Marriage
This paper critically analyses the theme of social mobility through marriage in Shakespeare s
play Twelfth Night . In addition, the paper highlights how different characters in the play got into
higher social classes or desired to be in higher social classes through marriage. This paper holds
that in a highly stratified society such as that presented in the Shakespeare s play; marriage plays a
significant role in in social classmobility. As opposed to some traditional society where marriage
was only permitted along an individual s class, Shakespeare presents a literally liberal society with
marriage and other relationships permitted along all the classes within the society. In fact, marriage
is more of a person choice, contrary to the perception in the tradition society.
How Marriage leads to Social Mobility in the Play Twelfth Night
According to Chris, Shakespeare s play Twelfth Night touches on sensitive concepts within the
society (1). Similar to the majority of his literary works, Twelfth Night captures the concept of love
and how individuals use love through marriage to achieve power or a higher social status.
Throughout the play, there is an apparent struggle for social status by the key characters. Lindheim
asserts that there are some characters in the play, such as Antonio who would do everything within
their means in order to achieve their sexual desires (2). For example, in a more traditional society
or contemporary setting, Antonio could never hope of

THE 11th COMMANDMENT is a sci fi, action thriller with some dark comedy. The first 30 pages
offer an imaginative and visionary future world. The tone blends serious situations with humor.
There s also a film noir style to the script, as well as some comic book like features.
The opening sets the tone, although the first four pages feel overly written and could be clearer.
What is clear is that the man is after something and/or something is after the man.

The Cee Cee Boyd scenes feel very comic bookish, which doesn t flow well with the earlier tone.
Boyd presents as an exaggerated type character. The purpose of adding a subplot about code
books and evading earth is unclear in regards to how this fits with someone killing the elite group
of police.
The idea of legalized killing makes for a strong concept. There s a lot that can be done within this
world that allows people to get permits to kill.
There are some other nice visuals such as the cross forming a shadow over the man s face.
There s no doubt that the major strength of the first 30 pages is the lead hero, Harry. He s a
really likable guy. There s something charming about him and cynical. He s smart and it s a lot of
fun to watch him put the clues at a crime scene together. He shares good chemistry with McEvoy.
There are also nice hints to his backstory that creates good conflict between Harry and the other
detectives.
McEvoy is another intriguing characters. She s very likable too. The introduction of McEvoy is
strong and she shares good chemistry with Harry.
Her reasons for asking him on the case, however, are not convincing. She hasn t even started the

Network Security And The Network
Abstract
Network security is a broad term used to refer to processes and procedures that are configured by
a company s network administrator to provide visibility and prevent denial of service, unauthorized
access, modification and exploitation of the corporate network or respective resources. The
resources refer to files or computer programs available on the corporate network infrastructure. The
infrastructure comprise of corporate software and hardware resources that facilitate communication,

The network security manager can equally use intrusion detection systems and anti virus
software to prevent unauthorized access and blocking harmful viruses and malware from
entering a network respectively. This paper however, does not focus on these approaches but
primarily focuses on how firewalls enhance network security. A firewall is a security technology
designed to avoid unauthorized access to or from a private network. Firewalls can be placed in
both hardware and software, or can also be placed in both hardware and software. Firewalls are
usually used to prevent unauthorized access on a network. All messages entering or leaving the
network go through a firewall, the firewall analyses all the messages and then blocks the messages
that do not meet the security standards. The administrator sets the security standards which packets
need to meet, he/she will decide which packet is suitable to pass through the firewall.
(Webopedia.com, 2017), (Services, 2017). Once an administrator has set up a policy, it then needs
to be tested to determine if the firewall has been correctly implemented.
Introduction
Network security has become a major concern in the computing industry, including organizations,
personal users and the military. The reason for this is due to the large number of security threats
that occur on a daily basis. The internet architecture itself allows many threats to

Solving Multi Criteria Decision Making Problems
There are several methods to solve multi criteria decision making problems. Analytic Hierarchy
Process (AHP) and Analytic Network Process (ANP) are two methods created by Tomas Saaty.
AHP endeavor to solve the decision making problem by formed it in a hierarchy while ANP is
used when the problem is so complex that cannot be formed as a hierarchy. This complexity
happens because of the effect of criteria between each other or the effect of alternatives on criteria.
Generally we can say The Analytic Network Process is a generalization of the Analytic Hierarchy
Process. The ANP approach can be comprises in to four steps [87]:
Step 1: Model construction and problem structuring: The problem should be stated clearly and
decomposed into a rational system like a network
Step 2: Pairwise comparisons and priority vectors: In ANP, like AHP, pairs of decision elements at
each cluster are compared with respect to their importance towards their control criteria.
Furthermore, interdependencies among criteria of a cluster must also be treated pairwise; thus the
influence of each element on other elements can be represented by an eigenvector. The relative
importance values are determined with Saaty s nine scales.
Step 3: Supermatrix structure: the Supermatrix concept is similar to the Markov chain process. To
obtain global priorities in a system with interdependent influences, the local priority vectors are
entered in the appropriate columns of a matrix. As a result, a supermatrix is

Source: Tax Foundation Taxes and Growth Model, Sept. 2015.
Donald Trump s tax plan would enact a number of tax reforms that would both lower marginal
tax rates on workers and significantly reduce the cost of capital. These changes in the incentives
to work and invest would greatly increase the U.S. economy s size in the long run, leading to
higher incomes for taxpayers at all income levels. The plan would also be a large tax cut, which
would increase the federal government s deficit by over $10 trillion, both on a static and dynamic
basis. Finally, it is worth noting that the Taxes and Growth Model does not take into account the
fiscal or economic effects of interest on debt. It also does not require budgets to balance over the
long term. It also does not account for

Characteristics, Issues And Trends Of The Region From An...
This report has been conducted on the East Asia region based on the information provided by the
universities of Kansas State and Massey. The focus of this report is to identify and describe
important characteristics, issues and trends of the region from an agricultural perspective. To
provide an introduction and insight first a brief summary of East Asiawill be provided.
East Asia includes approximately 15 countries, within this there is a population of 1.974 billion
people. Of the total population 51% live within rural areas resulting in agriculture making up
11% of GDP, which is considerably more than the likes of the US (1% of GDP). There is
considerable diversity between countries within East Asia. There are major differences between
country s GDP per capita and economic development, resulting in distinctive high, middle and
low per capita GDP groups as shown in figure 1. New Zealand in comparison would be in the
high per capita group with a GDP of $36,200. The East Asia countries in which agriculture makes
up largest proportion of their GDP are within the lower to middle GDP band and are Vietnam with
22%, Indonesia with 15% and Thailand with 12%. Whereas in comparison to the likes of Japan
who has the highest GDP per capita within the region, agriculture only represents 1%. It can also be
seen that the risk of investment increases in East Asia as incomes reduce and that the middle
income countries have considerable growth potential.

The Alberta government approved the funding for the construction of the new school, Mary
Bergeron Elementary. This not only created a safer and more modern update for the young students
in our community, but helped to create more employment in the downturn of the economy, stated
Chouinard.
Groundbreaking of the new Parkland Lodge was another innovation for the betterment of Edson
s senior citizens. The new lodge will be more modern and comfortable for Edson seniors with a
projected 102 room capacity. Seniors will be able to enjoy privacy by occupying their own room,
unless sharing with a spouse. Completion of the senior s lodge is being planned for July, 2018.
Through tightening of the budget, Edson residents were able to enjoy no increase of their 2017
property taxes. This was accomplished by streamlining and cutting costs while still maintaining a
fully operational budget.
Lobbying for the certification of the Town of Edson airport was another initiative Chouinard helped
to implement. Future planning could one day see Edson on the map as a functional airport for
Edson and surrounding areas. Business transport will also increase the town s viability for tourism
to maintain its prosperity, said Chouinard.
Chouinard was asked of his long term goals running in this election, and if elected, what would
those goals be? His reply was that he would be working towards a safer

The Problem Of Aging Population
An aging population is a population with an increased median age due to an increase in life
expectancy, accompanied by a decrease in fertility rates. This phenomena is already occurring in
other countries, and the United States is expected to undergo a similar demographic shift. The
population of citizens aged 65 and over is projected to double in the next few decades, from 43.1
million in 2012, to 83.7 million in 2050, and life expectancy is expected to rise at the same time
(Ortman, Velkoff, Hogan, others, 2014). The most important consequence of this is an increase in
the percentage of older people from 13% to 20%. An increase of these amount while seemingly
insignificant is going to pose a significant burden on the societal support systems set in place to
help older individuals. These burden while widespread across different departments, is poised to
heavily impact a healthcare climate that is already stretched to the brink. It is essential for adequate
preparation to be made in form of public policies that plan for the future. The three most important
public policy issues facing the United States are reauthorizing the Older Americans Act, ensuring
long termservices and supports, and health coverage for older individuals. The Older Americans
Act of 1965 was the first comprehensive federal policy directed towards ensuring increased care for
older citizens. It created the Administration on Aging(AoA), National Eldercare Locator Service,

Muslim Next Door Reflection
Probably my favorite book that we read in BIFL this semester was Ali Karamali s The Muslim
Next Door . Before reading this book, I had no clue what Islam was or what sort of traditions
Muslims practiced (I have done an extremely poor job of being informed with the events and
people of the world). Reading about a totally different religionthan my own gave me the
opportunity to question the religious practices that I participate in. Hajj seemed like such a silly
thing when we first started reading about the 5 pillars of Islam, but once we watched the National
Geographic video, something clicked for me. I began to realize how incredible it must feel to
be surrounded with people from all over the globe that gather together to do the same religious
based activity. Further, I began to recognize just how beneficial the Qur an was for women of
that age. Ali Karamali states that, if Islam so greatly raised the status of women fourteen
centuries ago, when women s rights were inconceivable and implementation of them was a
Herculean task, then the message of Islam itself must be feminist (123). Here I am, a privileged,
intelligent, white female trying to raise the bar for women all over the world like I was the first
one to think of that. It s incredible to think that religious texts were trying to do this work at a time
it was unheard of!
Reading about Islam also gave me a chance to reflect on those things within the Christian tradition
that I hold dear. I believe in God, and most

California is home to seven of the fifty largest cities in the U.S. by population and rank. Of these
seven, I will discuss one of my favorite cities in the world San Francisco, California. San Francisco
is the thirteenth largest city in the U.S. but only coming in as the fourth largest in California after
Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose. As of July 2014 the population estimate was a little over

For 74 days the Army patrolled the cities and what made this so odd was that martial law was never
declared. The Army also took the initiative to re establish communication networks and handled the
distribution of food and supplies. The committee ended up controlling local funds, including the 10
million in donations. Under the committee land use was controlled, business licensing, zoning and
building trade rules were regulated. The speedy redevelopment was made possible by these two
public sector developments allowing a thriving private market in a city under reconstruction.

Trivium Model Essay
Modern education has, over time, taken the focus off of learning how to learn and has decided to
focus on telling the students what they should learn. They are not given any tools to learn for
themselves. The modern school classroom has a teacher stand in front of a crowded classroom
and he/she tells the students information. They are given very little room to ask question and find
answers. Without the proper foundation of information the children are less likely to remember
what is being taught and worse they are unable to find out more information because they have not
been given the tools to dig deep into subjects. They are expected to give back these fragments of
information in order to prove the teacher did their job. They are not asked to assess the validity of
the information they are given and question whether or not it... Show more content on

I know from personal experience that without the proper foundation of information and discipline,
trying to figure out how to learn something becomes very difficult. In the classical education model,
the students are taught within a structure of the Trivium. The trivium consists of three levels of
learning, the grammar stage, the dialectical stage and the rhetorical stage. Each one of these stages
builds upon the previous one. The grammar stage introduces children to broad topics and
information. This is the stage where they are creating memory files or pegs. The students are able
to recite this information when asked, because they have committed it to memory. The grammar
stage leads in to the dialectical stage. This is where the children begin to understand information.
They are taught the discipline of how to find information they can use to add to their original
memory pegs. Here they are also taught how to logically decipher the truth value of the work they
are getting their research from. This stage will help build the wall of information upon their
grammatical foundation.

The Concept Of Discourse Community
As people we tend to associate with others with a common interest working together to
accomplish something great for others or for ourselves. Amongst us there are an infinite of
numbers of a discourse communities, which is limitless to identify each one. John Swales, author
of The Concept of Discourse Community , describes it as group of individuals that share a
common goal and sub goals as a whole. Or as James Porter definition of a discourse community: is
a group of individuals bound by a common interest who communicate through approved channels
and whose discourse is regulated. These community represent certain ideology and views of the
world that defines them apart from others. Swales states it must meet six specific criteria... Show

Menopausal Hormone Replacement Therapy Essay
There has been conflicting research and advice about the safety of hormones with the increase in
the aging female population within the last twenty years (National Institute on Aging). Hormone
therapy has demonstrated to be the most effective FDA approved medication in the relief of
menopausal symptoms, but these benefits must be weighed against serious adverse effects that
hormones can cause. Although many women differ in their response to hormone products, MHT
has been universally linked to an increased risk of heart disease, heart attack, blood clots, and
strokes. Concerns about the findings discovered in the clinical and observation trials performed on

Although, estrogen is produced by other organs in the body, estrogen output is significantly
decreased in premenopausal women, and progesterone becomes nearly absent. Symptoms can
emerge as the female body adjusts to the decrease in estrogen levels as a result of natural or
surgical menopause. Conversely, some women may experience no symptoms where others may
experience one or all. Inadequate estrogen levels can also contribute to changes in the vaginal and
urinary tracts, which can cause painful intercourse and urinary infections. Symptoms may last for
several months or years and have been reported to vary greatly in onset and severity. Fleeting hot
flashes, night sweats, and fatigue are the most frequently communicated symptoms. Osteoporosis, a
condition characterized by decrease in bone mass and density, causes the bones to become fragile
and is a long term condition associated with menopause. Menopause is not a disease or a disorder
that requires treatment in all causes. For some women many of the symptoms associated with
menopause will subside over time. However, there are women who struggle with coping with their
symptoms and as symptoms persist and progress they begin to decrease the quality of life. There
are options for treatment of menopausal symptoms. Doctors may recommend Menopausal

Zen Meditation Paper
The Church of England is now under fire after a York Minster clergyman introduced Zen Buddhist
meditation into its church services.
The Zen Sangha group has been conducting 90 minute silent meditation sessions every other Friday
for the past two years. York dean Vivienne Faull sad the sessions were held to give Christians an
opportunity to explore the congruence of Zen Buddhism and the Christian faith, but the move drew
condemnation from evangelical Christians, The Guardian reports.
The meditation sessions, which are held at the Minster s Old Palace, are supported by Roman
Catholic priest and Zen master Fr. Patrick Kundo Eastman Roshi. The Zen meditations are listed
under the church s main spiritual activities.

Cases around the Fourth Ammendment
1) The US Supreme Court held the Fourth Amendment only protects the right of privacy for a
person when the individual actually expects privacy. In addition, the individual s expectation of
privacy needs to be reasonable. Rosanna have a ten foot fence surrounding the garden by her
house. She has a reasonable expectation of privacy for the contents inside of that particular
garden, and she expects privacy since she had put up a tall privacy fence for that purpose.
However, she has no expectation of privacy for the open field garden located next to the road.
This garden is in an open field, an expectation of privacy is unreasonable to a reasonable person.
Since she did not put up any fence around this garden, it shows that Rosanna have no expectation
of privacy for this garden. Therefore, the Fourth Amendment protection of individual s
expectation of privacy only protects the privacy of Rosanna s garden next to her house and not
the open field garden next to the road. 2) Based on the totality of the circumstances, the officer
pulled Mr. Hightower based on unreasonable suspicion and no probable cause. Mr. Hightower
from Metropolis drove a late model Corvette at around 3 am down Main Street does not arouse
suspicion to a reasonable person. In addition, the arresting officer did not witness Mr. Hightower
commit any traffic violation or any crime and it is legal to drive around the city at 3 am. The
officer violated Mr. Hightower s Fourth Amendment right of protection of unlawful

Sports In Sports Essay
Participating in sports from my youth years till graduating high school has had a contribution to
my outlook on the people surrounding me in daily life. Besides sport being fun and providing
exercise it has some not as obvious effects. Through sport you learn how to communicate and
work together as a team to strive for a set goal. Communication and team collaboration is an
important characteristic for anyone no matter their career field. For me, my sport experiences
have taught me that sometimes you have to find a way to work with people that you do not
necessarily like. It is unavoidable to always have only people you get along with on your team
whether it is a sports team or a team at a job. Sport teaches many new lessons to children which
initially are hard to understand but years later you look back and have that oh that is why moment.
I have participated in soccer, baseball, tennis and golf between youth and graduating from high
school. I had group tennis lessons during grade school. Previously me and my family would
occasionally go to the nearby tennis courts to play a few games for our enjoyment, but I decided
that I wanted to try and improve my skills. I only participated in tennis for one year as I did not
enjoy it as much as I had hoped I would. From tennis I only remember negative memories of being
exhausted from running around the tennis courts as a warm up during practice. I learned from this

  • 2. Formalism And Realism In Film Short Critical Essay #3 Option 2 Classical film theories are generally divided into two main camps. They have been categorized as Formalism and Realism. The formalist approach looks at the structure and form of the film. It analyzes the method by which the story materializes and how it forces the viewer to react based on the way it is presented. It incorporates character development, photographic composition, camera movement, set design, editing, etc. to that end. The realist approach scrutinizes how a film represents reality. It is a mechanical reproduction of reality that strives for objectivity and realism. The primary focus is always every day, true to life characters and dilemmas, and the real life situations they are found in. Commonplace themes are the rule. To achieve realism in cinema it was necessary to direct attention to the physical and philosophic problems of ordinary existence. People emerge as victims of forces beyond their control in a world at times seemingly spinning out of control. Although there are also a few similarities, formalism and realism can be shown to offer substantially different approaches to the art of filmmaking and the study of film. Realism is a style of filmmaking that attempts to duplicate the look of objective reality with emphasis on authentic locations and details, long shots, lengthy takes, and a minimum of distortion. Andre Bazin championed cinematic realism. He identifies Realism as a movement of filmmakers who put their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Structure of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and... The Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC) has traditionally operated under a function organization structure within state government that clearly separated services provided into two primary categories: prisons and parole services with both categories reporting to the agency Director. An organization structure based on functions provides a clear direction for job requirements, allows the opportunity for staff to become experts in their field of assignment, which increases productivity. Although this structure was successfully utilized by the DRC for many years, unintentionally, it created a separation between levels of management and their subordinates and division and a division between the agency s prisonand parole services.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This office works with local criminal justice officials and community and state agencies to provide safe, meaningful reentry into the community. This is done by providing opportunities for offenders to change behaviors or situations, which brought about their incarceration. Possibly one of the most crucial offices within the DRC is the Office of Research and Evaluation. This Office develops information reporting systems regarding recidivism, prepares regular reports, conducts program evaluations, and provides research studies to aide in policy making. The offices described above are by no means representative of every office and function within the Ohio DRC; they are merely a snapshot of the major functions that keep the system running. It is common knowledge that no organization can function without people; thus, we must also address the personnel and their demographics. The Ohio DRC, according to the 2013 Annual Report, employs 11,803 administrative employees, 6,400 correctional officers, and 434 parole officers throughout the State. Among the correctional officers, 1,221 are female and 5,179 are male. The female correctional officers are represented by 792 Caucasian, 406 African American, and 23 Other. The male officers are made up of 4,377 Caucasian, 691 African American, and 111 Other. There are fewer parole officers, 175 female and 259 male. Of the 175 female parole officers, 125 are ... Washington set the standard for how future presidents should run the country and shaped the face of the nation for many years to come with his social life, the policies he established, and how he made the presidential office powerful. Washington s social life was organized and relaxing, and in turn set a prime example of how the president should live his life. When we re living our life, sooner or later we ll have to confront one event where it will make us reevaluate our life choices and it will be considered as an epiphany. • 11. Essay On The Debates Between Abraham Lincoln And Stephen... Archaeologists have traditionally viewed the list of seven debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas through the 1858 Illinois state voting campaign as amongst the most important declarations in American imperial history. Those concerns they addressed were not only of crucial significance to the regional dispute over states rights and slavery but also covered deeper into issues that would proceed to change political dialogue. What is usually neglected is that these contests were a component of the comprehensive campaign, that they were intended to achieve some main policy objectives, and that they showed the features of mid nineteenth century political speech . Douglas, being part of Congress as from 1843 and a famous nationwide spokesperson for the Democratic body, was contesting for another election for a third season in the Senate, whereas Lincoln was vying for the same seat as a Republican1. Due to Douglas s political development, the campaign captivated nationwide attention. • 12. How Does Roark Have Integrity In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead, the protagonist Howard Roark is an idealistic architect struggling to create modern structures in the face of those stuck in the ways of the past. This novel calls into question the practicality of morality, and whether or not it inhibits personal and social growth. Roark s character ties together independence and integrity to create a man who is successful even when defying social norms. These two qualities are perceived by Rand as ideal for human beings, which is why Roark is eventually successful in his endeavors to create his designs. Roark s independence reflects Rand s preference of individualism to collectivism, as no one person should be thought for nor should he think for others. Roark epitomizes Rand s belief as he faces against pressures from corporations and public opinions to design his perfect building. • 13. Harappan Stone Bead Making And Pottery Harappan stone bead making and pottery are important aspects in identifying different archaeological time periods. Craft specialization is an indicator of societies becoming more complex. Stone bead making and pottery are both different types of craft specialization which indicate that the early of cities and villages of the Harappan period have become more aware of society and economy. In Kenoyer, Vidale, and Bhan s Contemporary stone bead making in Khambat, India, the stone beadmaking industry is studied and described as important for supporting the state, (Kenoyer, Vidale, Bhan 1991). This occupational specialization let to the development of an organized social structure that was closely monitored. Although there are many references to multiple craft specializations at different sites, this article focuses on craft specialization that appears to be identified with highly ranked societies. The fact that some scholars associate craft specialization with these highly ranked societies is incorrect because in all societies technology was important and required individuals to be able to produce items efficiently. The ability to create specific and efficient technology requires specialization which is a sign of economic and social adaptions, (Rice 1984). Craft specialization was an adaptive process because the ability to gather raw materials and produce special objects required a high level of competence and ability to work together. Energy Consumption Before The 50 s The first interesting thing that I learned from the lecture is related to the annual residential total energy consumption from before the 50s and until the 00s. However, I was surprised to know that the energy consumption before the 50s was at its maximum then it decreased until it reached its minimum in the 80s and increased after that. • 16. Dna With Natural Catalysts The approach described above is novel and original because we are integrating the high level of programmability of DNA with natural catalysts, which are very significant to progress in many different scientific fields. Such integration enables coupling of enzymes to circuits that are capable of decision making and self regulation, leading to an unprecedented level of control of catalytic reactions. To achieve our objectives, we will develop methods to systematically design, model and test both dynamic and structural components. We will also create software and mathematical tools that can predict the dynamic behavior of individual catalytic modules and multi modular circuits. When compared to existing techniques and protocols for multi enzyme reactions, our system has multiple advantages: (1) Multi enzyme reactions typically require laborious purification after each step and this can also result in loss of valuable sample. By sequestering enzymes within a crystal and then activating each enzyme one after another in proper order, we can avoid purification steps between each reaction. Leakage of enzymes from crystal lattice can be pre vented using semi permeable blockades that will block enzymes by will allow the substrate to pass in and out. (2) Enclosure inside crystal lattices will provide additional stability and protective cover to sensitive enzymes, thus keeping them active and stable for longer periods of time. (3) In case of multi enzyme reactions, sequestering all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through the Griswold case the Third Amendment protects the invasion of privacy by the government. The court held that statement and they also asked if they would let the government search the bedrooms in that case. The Court explained that the right to privacy was inherent in the First, Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Ninth Amendments. The Bill of Rights created zones of privacy into which the government could not intrude. ( Griswold V. Connecticut). In the Griswold case, the Third Amendment and some other amendments protected the rights of privacy which helped Ms. Griswold. • 20. How College Dating Has Changed My Life College dating has changed a lot since my parents went to school. Courtship and chivalry are dead, or extremely hard to find, and a majority of college students are involved in the hookup culture. A hookup is a nonromantic encounter with a friend or acquaintance that involves an unspecified degree of sexual interaction, (Carpenter and DeLamater 129). When I first started college, I had a very nice relationshipthat lasted about 3 months. When we both decided to just be friends, it dawned on me that I could sleep with whomever I wanted to. During my second semester in college, I more than doubled the amount of guys I slept with in high school and I know why I did it. I let myself engage in hookup culture because I wanted to rebel against my parents, have some sense of intimacy without commitment, experience new things, and it was so much fun to brag about with my girlfriends. However, after a while I began to miss what I had during my first semester, someone who actually cared about me and wanted to be with me for more than just sex. I often hear numerous complaints in college about not being able to find a significant other. This new style of dating, or hookup culture, lacks a sense of respect and doesn t allow for an emotional closeness with those students find attractive. It encourages college students to suppress their emotions in order to gain sexual intimacy and that wanting a committed relationship is a thing of the past. Why has courtshipand traditional ... Question 1: Cities as Locus for Political Debate Cities are plots of land, densely covered with built environment, inhabited by dwellers; however cities are also vast network hubs, linking social, economic and political flows. Cities possess enormous human capital: they encourage exchange of ideas and intellectual opportunities. Cities are conceived upon diversity encountering individuals with different believes and points of view, coming from very different backgrounds one has a chance to test his own convictions against those of others. Cities therefore are constantly evolving subjects, where one continues to learn every minute; they also become arenas for political action and organization. In my essay I am going to discuss how through close spatial proximity and interrelation of different socio economic groups important political questions are being raised. With examples from different world regions, such as India, US and Brazil it is possible to distill a trend that urban setting through compact spatial organization provides exposure to various viewpoints and encourages its dwellers to take action, to attempt to solve infrastructural problems and organize in political groups. It is both in the city center and the periphery where people become involved into performative politics. I would argue, that physical proximity and socio economic difference present simultaneously in one space no matter whether in the center or in periphery foster one s involvement in ... I will take every measure possible to make sure that everything is correct. So why would these foods spoil if they weren t refrigerated? Pathogenic bacteria grows rapidly in temperatures above 4.4В°C (40В°F). This type of bacteria does not affect the smell, taste, or appearance of the food, making it difficult to determine whether or not the pathogens are present. By refrigerating foods at the correct temperature, you are eliminating the chances of these harmful pathogens growing in your food and contaminating them. For example, if you accidentally left a jug of milk on the counter overnight it would become warm and develop a rancid odor. If you were to drink it, the chances of you getting a foodborne illness would be high considering that the harmful pathogens had time to grow. Spoilage bacteria can also grow at low temperatures, however they cause foods to develop disgusting odors and appearances. • 25. Thucydides Accounts of the Degradation of Athenian Honor Thucydides account of the Peloponnesian war served as a window into Athenian societal culture. Carrying the reader from Pericles moving speech to the assembly, through Cleon and Diodotus oratory battle over the fate of Mytilene, and finally to the Athenian proposal to the Melians, Thucydides detailed the transformation of Athens from a state based on justice and freedom to a empire with a corrupted soul. This corruption did not occur over night, but was the result of increasing tyrannical behavior by the part of Athens in its interactions with other Greek city states. The stages of this development can be analyzed into three parts: Pericleswar speech, the dialogue on Mytilene, and the Melian debate. Pericles speech was propagated by the horn of war against the Lacedaemonians. In the midst of the conflict, the Athenians called an assembly to determine their course of action. Their choices were to either agree to Spartas demands, which included dismantling the siege of Potidaea, freeing Aegina from their rule, and cancelling their embargo of Megara, or war. At this juncture, the prime Athenian statesman, Pericles, presented his advice: never give in. For Pericles, Athens can never subjugate itself to any power and must fight for its autonomy. In order to win the war, Athens must focus on its people and avoid mistakes. They cannot base their campaign on saving their property, but keeping the integrity of their forces. As the story is set in France in the mid part of the 20th century, this suffering takes place in a modern marriage. We are given enough information to realize that this modern woman doesn t see herself as an independent spirit. Essay on Two Methods of Defending the Trinity Two Methods of Defending the Trinity Christians believe in one God, yet the apparent contradictory nature of the Trinity is such that it has caused many to doubt whether Christianity is indeed monotheistic. This has consequently caused Christians to defend their monotheism in relation to the Trinity. In the two such defensesthat are studied in this essay, we find that Christians have explained the nature of Trinity with varying degrees of effectiveness and success. Timothy the Patriarch defends the Trinity before the Caliph Madhi with few compelling arguments, and Gregory of Nyssa explains it in a more abstract and therefore more effective way. Each however defends the Trinity according to his understanding of it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Timothy offers several apt analogies comparing the Trinity to earthly things, yet he fails to offer a compelling argument to refute the Caliph s simple yet powerful statement: If He is one, He is not three; and if He is three he is not one; what is this contradiction? (69). The most obvious of Timothy s logical errors is that he assumes (naturally) that the Son of the Trinity is in fact the Christ or Messiah of the Hebrew Scripture. He therefore refers to Hebrew Scripture to show that the Son is equal and not subservient to the Father: God, therefore, called Christ a Lord through the prophet David, and since no true lord is a servant, it follows that Christ is not a servant (82). The flaw in this logic, or at least the reason for its failure to convince the Caliph, lies in the fact that the Caliph cannot believe that Jesus is the Christ. The logic is also flawed from a modern point of view, for there the writers of the Hebrew Scripture knew neither Jesus nor the concept of the Trinity. It would therefore be anachronistic to use such references or to claim for example that the We of the creation story in Genesis refers to the Christian Trinity. • 35. California s Three-Strike Law The Three Strikes Law has three different components. Just like marriage, driving, and educational laws the Three Strikes law has its own version in every state. Unfortunately California s Three Strikes law is causing the most controversy. The three parts in California s law are the defendant s record of prior convictions, the current charge and the minimum punishment the defendant is facing. A man or woman has to be convicted of two felonies and charged with another one before the Three Strikes law can come into play. Dictionary.com defines a felonyas an offense, as murder or burglary, of graver character than those called misdemeanors, especially those commonly punished in the U.S. by imprisonment for more than a year (Brauchli). The first strike that someone has on their record has to be from a serious or violent crime. Some of the controversy derives from what the law considers a serious offense. The second strike happens when there was a prior conviction that was a violent or serious crime. When a suspect is facing his or her second strike the required time is doubled. For example, if the court gave someone seven years for a felony, they would receive fourteen years. When a person receives their third strike on their record with any felony conviction their time jumps up to twenty five to life. The offender can not receive parole until eighty percent or twenty years of their time is served (Brauchli). A considerable amount of people have received a twenty five to ... A firewall is a security technology designed to avoid unauthorized access to or from a private network. Firewalls can be placed in both hardware and software, or can also be placed in both hardware and software. Firewalls are usually used to prevent unauthorized access on a network. All messages entering or leaving the network go through a firewall, the firewall analyses all the messages and then blocks the messages that do not meet the security standards. The administrator sets the security standards which packets need to meet, he/she will decide which packet is suitable to pass through the firewall. (Webopedia.com, 2017), (Services, 2017). Once an administrator has set up a policy, it then needs to be tested to determine if the firewall has been correctly implemented. Introduction Network security has become a major concern in the computing industry, including organizations, personal users and the military. The reason for this is due to the large number of security threats that occur on a daily basis. The internet architecture itself allows many threats to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Solving Multi Criteria Decision Making Problems There are several methods to solve multi criteria decision making problems. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Analytic Network Process (ANP) are two methods created by Tomas Saaty. AHP endeavor to solve the decision making problem by formed it in a hierarchy while ANP is used when the problem is so complex that cannot be formed as a hierarchy. This complexity happens because of the effect of criteria between each other or the effect of alternatives on criteria. Generally we can say The Analytic Network Process is a generalization of the Analytic Hierarchy Process. The ANP approach can be comprises in to four steps [87]: Step 1: Model construction and problem structuring: The problem should be stated clearly and decomposed into a rational system like a network Step 2: Pairwise comparisons and priority vectors: In ANP, like AHP, pairs of decision elements at each cluster are compared with respect to their importance towards their control criteria. Furthermore, interdependencies among criteria of a cluster must also be treated pairwise; thus the influence of each element on other elements can be represented by an eigenvector. The relative importance values are determined with Saaty s nine scales. Step 3: Supermatrix structure: the Supermatrix concept is similar to the Markov chain process. To obtain global priorities in a system with interdependent influences, the local priority vectors are entered in the appropriate columns of a matrix. As a result, a supermatrix is ... These changes in the incentives to work and invest would greatly increase the U.S. economy s size in the long run, leading to higher incomes for taxpayers at all income levels. The plan would also be a large tax cut, which would increase the federal government s deficit by over $10 trillion, both on a static and dynamic basis. This report has been conducted on the East Asia region based on the information provided by the universities of Kansas State and Massey. The focus of this report is to identify and describe important characteristics, issues and trends of the region from an agricultural perspective. To provide an introduction and insight first a brief summary of East Asiawill be provided. East Asia includes approximately 15 countries, within this there is a population of 1.974 billion people. Of the total population 51% live within rural areas resulting in agriculture making up 11% of GDP, which is considerably more than the likes of the US (1% of GDP). There is considerable diversity between countries within East Asia. There are major differences between country s GDP per capita and economic development, resulting in distinctive high, middle and low per capita GDP groups as shown in figure 1. New Zealand in comparison would be in the high per capita group with a GDP of $36,200. The East Asia countries in which agriculture makes up largest proportion of their GDP are within the lower to middle GDP band and are Vietnam with 22%, Indonesia with 15% and Thailand with 12%. Whereas in comparison to the likes of Japan who has the highest GDP per capita within the region, agriculture only represents 1%. • 47. The Problem Of Aging Population An aging population is a population with an increased median age due to an increase in life expectancy, accompanied by a decrease in fertility rates. This phenomena is already occurring in other countries, and the United States is expected to undergo a similar demographic shift. The population of citizens aged 65 and over is projected to double in the next few decades, from 43.1 million in 2012, to 83.7 million in 2050, and life expectancy is expected to rise at the same time (Ortman, Velkoff, Hogan, others, 2014). The most important consequence of this is an increase in the percentage of older people from 13% to 20%. An increase of these amount while seemingly insignificant is going to pose a significant burden on the societal support systems set in place to help older individuals. These burden while widespread across different departments, is poised to heavily impact a healthcare climate that is already stretched to the brink. It is essential for adequate preparation to be made in form of public policies that plan for the future. The three most important public policy issues facing the United States are reauthorizing the Older Americans Act, ensuring long termservices and supports, and health coverage for older individuals. The Older Americans Act of 1965 was the first comprehensive federal policy directed towards ensuring increased care for older citizens. • 48. Muslim Next Door Reflection Probably my favorite book that we read in BIFL this semester was Ali Karamali s The Muslim Next Door . Before reading this book, I had no clue what Islam was or what sort of traditions Muslims practiced (I have done an extremely poor job of being informed with the events and people of the world). Reading about a totally different religionthan my own gave me the opportunity to question the religious practices that I participate in. Hajj seemed like such a silly thing when we first started reading about the 5 pillars of Islam, but once we watched the National Geographic video, something clicked for me. I began to realize how incredible it must feel to be surrounded with people from all over the globe that gather together to do the same religious based activity. Further, I began to recognize just how beneficial the Qur an was for women of that age. Ali Karamali states that, if Islam so greatly raised the status of women fourteen centuries ago, when women s rights were inconceivable and implementation of them was a Herculean task, then the message of Islam itself must be feminist (123). Here I am, a privileged, intelligent, white female trying to raise the bar for women all over the world like I was the first one to think of that. It s incredible to think that religious texts were trying to do this work at a time it was unheard of! Reading about Islam also gave me a chance to reflect on those things within the Christian tradition that I hold dear. I believe in God, and most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Trivium Model Essay Modern education has, over time, taken the focus off of learning how to learn and has decided to focus on telling the students what they should learn. They are not given any tools to learn for themselves. The modern school classroom has a teacher stand in front of a crowded classroom and he/she tells the students information. They are given very little room to ask question and find answers. Without the proper foundation of information the children are less likely to remember what is being taught and worse they are unable to find out more information because they have not been given the tools to dig deep into subjects. They are expected to give back these fragments of information in order to prove the teacher did their job. I know from personal experience that without the proper foundation of information and discipline, trying to figure out how to learn something becomes very difficult. In the classical education model, the students are taught within a structure of the Trivium. The trivium consists of three levels of learning, the grammar stage, the dialectical stage and the rhetorical stage. Each one of these stages builds upon the previous one. The grammar stage introduces children to broad topics and information. This is the stage where they are creating memory files or pegs. The students are able to recite this information when asked, because they have committed it to memory. The grammar stage leads in to the dialectical stage. This is where the children begin to understand information. They are taught the discipline of how to find information they can use to add to their original memory pegs. Here they are also taught how to logically decipher the truth value of the work they are getting their research from. This stage will help build the wall of information upon their grammatical foundation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition, the individual s expectation of privacy needs to be reasonable. Rosanna have a ten foot fence surrounding the garden by her house. She has a reasonable expectation of privacy for the contents inside of that particular garden, and she expects privacy since she had put up a tall privacy fence for that purpose.
