Joints of shoulder girdle
1) Sternoclavicular joint
2) Acromioclavicular joint
Sternoclavicular joint
• Class - synovial joint
• Axis - poly axial
• Variety - saddle shaped
• Bones - medial end of clavicle articulates with the
manubrium and 1st costal cartilage .
Ligaments
• Fibrous capsule.
• Anterior and posterior sternoclavicular ligament .
• Costoclavicular ligament.
Acromio clavicular joint
• Class - synovial joint
• Axis - non axial
• Variety - plane
• Bones - lateral end of clavicle articulates with
acromion process of scapula .
Ligaments
• Acromio clavicular ligament associated with the
movement of scapula .
Movements:
• Elevation and depression of scapula
• Protraction and retraction of scapula
• Forward and backward rotation of scapula
Shoulder joint (gleno humeral joint )
• Class - synovial joint
• Axis - poly axial
• Variety - ball and socket joint
• Bones - head of humerus articulate
with glenoid cavity of scapula .
Ligaments :
• Fibrous capsule .
• Gleno humeral ligament .
• Transverse humeral ligament .
• Glenoid labrum .
• Coracohumeral ligament .
• Corocoacromial arch .
Blood supply
• Anterior and posterior circumflex humeral
arteries
Nerve supply:
• Axillary nerve
• Supra scapular nerve
• Lateral pectoral nerve
Movements :
• Flexion and extension
• Addiction and abduction
• Medial and lateral rotation
• circumduction
Applied anatomy
• Dislocation of shoulder
• Frozen shoulder
Elbow joint
• Class - synovial joint
• Axis - uniaxial
• Variety - hinge
• Bones - the lower end of humerus have trochlea
and capitulum , trochlear of the humerus articulate
with trochlear notch of ulna and capitulum with
upper surface of the head of the radius
Ligaments:
• Fibrous capsule
• Ulnar collateral ligament
• Radial collateral ligament
Blood supply:
• The anastamosis of branches of brachial , ulnar ,
radial, and profunda brachii arteries .
Nerve supply:
• Branches of musculocutaneous nerve
• Radial nerve
• Ulnar nerve
Movements:
 Flexion and extension
Applied anatomy:
 tennis elbow
 Golfers elbow
 Carrying angle elbow
