With agriculture being a major industry in the United States, it is concerning to see
how few young farmers there are. This dilemma has occurred, since less people are
now raised on farms, and consequently society lacks having agricultural knowledge.
Additionally, modern machinery allows farmers to be able to effectively manage
larger tracts of land. This results in modern agricultural practices not requiring the
equivalent labor force necessary in the early 1900s. With less farmhands now
required, society promotes young intellectuals to receive a college education and
pursue only prestigious professions. While these positions are vital to society,

As the creditors view, they prefer the high current ratio. The current ratio provides
the best single indicator of the extent, which assets that are expected to be converted
to cash fairly quickly cover the claims of short term creditors. However, consider the
current ratio from the perspective of a shareholder. A high current ratio could mean
that the company has a lot of money tied up in nonproductive assets.
The return on equity, ROE, is as high as 20.69% (above 15%). It illustrate that the

Jean-Baptiste Lamarck s Life
August 1, 1744, was the day that Jean Baptiste Lamarck was born. He was born in
Bazentin le Petit, France. Jean was the eleventh child born from his titled parents,
Philippe Jacques de Monet de La Marck (father), Marie Françoise de Fontaines de
Chuignolles (mother). The father of Jean Baptiste was in the military as well as
his brothers. His father set a goal for him to become a priest, so when he was
eleven his parents sent him away to a Jesuit School. He stayed there until he was
sixteen which was when his father passed. After his father s death, he joined the
military. Jean had fought in the seven year war. He had developed an illness that
forced him to leave the army. Mr. Lamarck had three wives. Marie Rosalie Delaporte,

Mrs. Dalloway
I. Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf, was published on May 14, 1925 in London,
England. The novel follows Clarissa Dalloway and a variety of other characters
throughout the span of one day in their lives in 1923 London. Woolf utilizes a
narrative method of writing. With the novel s structure, the narrator possesses the
ability to move inside of a character s mind and compose her thoughts and emotions
immediately as events occur throughout the day. The novel s main character,
Clarissa, is a middle aged woman who belongs to the upper middle class in society
and is well married to a Member of Parliament Richard Dalloway. Clarissa s day is
full of arrangements for a dinner party she plans to host that evening. During the
novel, numerous other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than hold lengthy conversations between characters, she frequently writes
only of small talk and leaves more serious topics to be recited in an individual s
exclusive thoughts. One of her purposes in writing the novel is to expose the
hypocrisy of society. The characters in the novel range from eccentric
acquaintances to extravagant lords and ladies to vindictive tutors to suicidal
veterans. One example of this theme occurs when Rezia and Septimus attempt to
settle down in the park. When the airplane soars overhead, she writes, Tears ran
down his cheeks (Woolf 21). While one may mistake this as joy or, at worst, sorrow
over the recent war, Woolf gives the reality of the action beneath the surface, stating,
They are signaling to me... this exquisite beauty... but he would not go mad. He
would see no more (21). While Septimus dwindles on the brink of insanity, Rezia
chatters away about nature, unaware of the mess resting beside her. Septimus
portrays the appearance of one man yet expresses an entirely new persona through
his contemplations. Another instance of the theme transpires when Miss Kilman and
Clarissa wait for Elizabeth to retrieve her gloves before going shopping. Clarissa and
Kilman both make attempts at small talk. However, both give their attentions to a
mutual disgust of each other. Clarissa simply asks if Kilman is taking Elizabeth to
the stores. Kilman replies dryly, but in

Analysis Of The Novel A Short Story
Short stories often present the single experience of a character or set of characters
where its climax is marked by a moment of crisis, either in a literal or more
emotional and spiritual sense. Unlike the novel, a short story does not provide the
full details of the circumstances or backstory of the situation at hand, nor does it
allow the reader to develop an in depth relationship with these characters. Despite its
condensed form, the short storycan possess layers of subtexts and a sort of narrative
ambiguity where pressure is placed on the reader to make something of these literary
texts. To make sense of these subtexts, the reader should pay particular attention to
the narrative voice being utilized because the narratorhas the ability to influence how
a reader may respond to a literary text by setting up a perspective from which the
reader sees it. To get a thorough analysis of a short story, the reader must analyze
its narrator because the text s character is developed from the degree to which and
the manner in which that identity is indicated in the text, and the choices that are
implied (Bal 19). Evidence suggests that the experience a reader may get from a
short story is mostly dependent upon how that story is presented. Mieke Bal refers
to this as focalization, where the relation between who perceives and what is
perceived colors the story with subjectivity (8). For instance, the psychology behind
the supposed lovers behavior in D.H. Lawrence s

Public Residential Treatment Facilities For Youth
Policy Brief Abstract Over the last decade, there has been a rapid increase in the
number of private residential treatment facilities for youth in the United States. These
private residential treatment facilities are often referred to as specialty programs and
include the following: emotional growth schools; therapeutic boarding schools;
outdoor therapeutic programs; behavior modification schools; wilderness experience
programs; and boot camps. There are no federal regulations regarding the operation
of these programs and few states have regulations in place either. The majority of the
programs are neither accredited nor licensed. A number of reports have surfaced with
claims of abuse, neglect, maltreatment, and even deaths occurring in these
unregulated facilities. After a decade of such reports the troubled teen industry has
come under scrutiny. A solution is needed to protect the youth that are required to
participate in such programs. Research Question What is the best way to regulate

The Ugly Duckling Analysis
The tale of The Ugly Duckling has been told for many generations. It is the story of
a little swan that is mistakenly hatched in a duck s nest and because of his strange
and different appearance he is teased and ridiculed. Even his mother can t understand
how this ugly duckling could be one of her own. The ugly duckling goes through
many hardships and a long, lonely winter. Then upon seeing his reflection in the pond
he realizes that he has become a beautiful swan and happily swims off, joining a
group of nearby swans.
At first glance, many may perceive this as a cut and dry fairy tale. Sending the

If they are different from your society that you have been raised by, maybe it s time
to change your view on people because no one should be left out of anything for the
wrong reasons. Being different from everyone else is a quality that we should
embrace in ourselves and in others.
There can be comparisons in other writings in stories like these. One comparison
of this story is the book Speak. The main character Melinda Sordino is being
excluded from society because of her actions the previous summer. She cannot find
her place in society and she is forced to venture through it on her own. Just like the
duckling, she goes through many obstacles along the way of acceptation in society.
In the end of both stories the main characters find their place in society and they are
finally accepted for who they truly are. They embraced their inner beauty to get them
accepted by people who are just like them.
In the modes of literature there are four mode lines to follow off of. One of the
mode lines are romance, which is most commonly used beside comedy. In the
beginning of the story there is a mild conflict, and in this case the ugly duckling is
driven away and excluded from society because he looks differently and he acts
different from everyone else. He tries to find his place everywhere around the land
but he can t find anywhere, where he is accepted. The final point on the mode line of

Comparing Maupassant s Necklace and Chekov s Vanka
Essay
Narrators and Sympathy in Maupassant s Necklace and Chekov s Vanka
In Guy de The Necklace and Anton Chekov s Vanka, the narrators attitudes are
unsympathetic toward the protagonists Mathilde and Vanka. However, where the
narrator of The Necklace feels outright hostility toward Mathilde, the narrator of
Vanka voices his opinion more passively by pointing out the flaws in Vanka s wishful
thinking.
In The Necklace, the narrator s unsympathetic feelings toward Mathilde are made
evident in the first paragraph when he states, she had no dowry, no expectations, no
means of being known, understood, loved, wedded by an rich and distinguished man;
and she let herself be married to a little clerk at the Ministry of Public ... Show more

Eel is beaten several times a day for various reasons, presumably by Vanka s
grandfather; therefore, if Vanka should live with him, he would probably be beaten
as well (47). In fact, Vanka tells his grandfather that he can thrash [him] like Sidor s
goat if he misbehaves or does something wrong (48).
The narrator of The Necklace shows that Mathilde is a shallow person due to her
insistence that she would not go to the ball without a new dress, and that she would
only wear jewels, never flowers, although they were in fashion (67 68). Mathilde
appears to be more concerned with how everybody thinks she looks, than how they
actually think of her as a person. Mathilde furthers this impression when she and
Loisle are leaving the dance and she would rather be in the cold than have the other
ladies see them in their modest wraps of common life (69). However, the narrator
of Vanka further portrays Vanka as a sympathetic, but naive, character. In his letter,
Vanka writes about how he is beaten several times a day and frequently goes
hungry because as for tea, or soup, the master and mistress gobble it all up
themselves (48). He would even run away to the village, but [he has] no boots even
though he works for a shoemaker (48). The fact that Vanka writes to his grandfather
in secret with an old pen he had salvaged further shows how scared of his master he
is in that he hides his actions for fear of receiving
God Is Good And Evil
The naturally good world has been corrupted by evil, and a God is going to restore it
to its nature. Apparently, the restoration is indeed obvious. It is shown through the
everlasting teachings of kindness, harmony, and peace. Men are smart, but they are
selfish and ignorant, making them unable to invent such moral teachings. Hence,
those teachings, or Laws, are derived from an another source Godwho is perfectly
selfless. Indeed, Christianity is sensical, for there are evidences that God is making
changes in humanity. If there is a God, then who God is, by the way? Those who
believe in God have always questioned the Supreme Being in whom they believed
day by day. Eventually, they start to make the answers to their curiosity. The first...

Similarly, all of the innocent Jews would be executed cruelly as Hitler treated them
as if they had been devils. Or in a more Biblical context, had everyone agreed with
the Romans perspectives that Christians were evil, Christianity would not have
existed. To this point, the Pantheists could argue that Vengeance should not be done
because there is a God, who is beyond Good and Evil, tells human not to do so. If
God was beyond Good and Evil, how would he decide which actions are good and
bad. As he was neither Good nor Evil, he could judge any action was moral or
immoral. For instance, he could say forgiveness is Good. At the same time, he
could also declare Killing is good, for goodness and badness did not simply exist in
him. If God was this way, no one would choose to follow him. In contrast, a Good
God creates a Moral Law, which commands people to forgive and not to kill.
Universally, everyone knows that killing is bad, and forgiveness is good, but why
it is so? Killing is bad because such action goes against the direction of the Moral
Law. Conversely, Forgiveness is good because it abides by the Moral Law. A
Good God makes the Moral Law, and solely the Good God leads men to a better
world. A Pantheists God only leaves humanity as it has been. Another man made
answer to the question is Dualism, which states that the universe is a battlefield of
two Deities Good and Bad(Lewis, 1952, p. 42). However, if there were actually two

Comparing Baz Luhrman s Movie Star-Crossed Lovers
Star Crossed Lovers
The story of Romeo and Juliet, also known as the star crossed lovers, has been
recreated countless times. In the case of Baz Luhrman s 1996 film version, we
follow these star crossed lovers, but in a modern day Verona with the original
script. Luhrman s film, which is rated at 3.5 out of 5, stars Leonardo DiCaprio as
Romeo and Claire Danes as Juliet. True to the story, they meet during a party held in
the Capulet Mansion, fall in love, and ultimately take their own lives rather than be
apart. As the movie starts, a fight breaks out between the boys of the House of
Capulet and those from the House of Montague. This then turns into a manhunt
looking for the leaders of the brawl; Tybalt, a Capulet, and Benvolio, a Montague.
Commodification Of Halloween
With the increase in reinterpretations of death and Halloween symbols, two
fundamental things occurred, the mass commodification of Halloween and a
decontextualization of the symbols of death. In 1978 the premiere of Halloween,
directed by John Carpenter, directly placed the holiday itself in relation to horror
and gruesome death, more so than the introduction of gothic horror ever did
(Rogers 110; Khapaeva 58). The introduction of explicit horror, according to
Rogers, created. a coded language that enables authors and invites their audiences
to explore their fears, hidden desires, and anxieties (110). This established a
creative space in which fantasy and dissociation could be merged creating a
popularization of death without actually dealing with the reality of death itself. It
created a space where the narrative of horror and death could be controlled and
regulated, through established archetypes. This directly contrasted the collective
psyche of the 1970s and 80s in the United States, which was dealing with the
ramifications of the AIDS epidemic (the worst epidemic since Polio), and an
increase in social, religious, and political conservatism (Khapaeva 78). Through
horror movies and Halloween, social anxieties could be dealt with in an a political
and creative way, while still maintaining the sanitized separation of hospital and
culture.
In the contemporary period, Halloween s popularity has increased. Personal
expenditures on Halloween have drastically increased since the 2000s, to create a
multi billion dollar industry, which has expanded the cultural awareness and practice
of Halloween (Khapaeva 57). However, this expansion has led to the commodification
of Halloween, by equating it with consumer culture. This has significant implications
for the cultural conception of death as it equate previously potent symbols with cheap
goods. But this might have been by design, as Grider argues that the mass
commercialization of Halloween is another way in which collectively western culture
can control the potentially dangerous incursion of the supernatural world in our
everyday lives (10). Through the ownership of material goods associated with
Halloween, the narrative and context of the concepts are further

Jesus as a Figure in History: a Wealth of Information for Those Already Informed
Jesus Christ is one of the most recognizable figures in the modern world. And the
legacies of few people have sparked as many wars, built as many nations, and
changed as many individual s lives, as Jesus of Nazareth. Understandably, scholars
and spiritualists alike have striven to answer one central question, who was this Jesus
? To some, He is known as the Son of God, who overcame death and sin, offering
salvation through His resurrection for all who place their faith in him. To others, He
was merely a carpenter from the small town of Nazareth, living in the early years of
the Common Era. And trying to figure out much else about Jesus is one of the most ...

In antiquity, historical thought was not what we would recognize as history today.
Those who lived alongside Jesus, or wrote about Him in contemporary times were
not concerned so much with what was but with what ought to have been. They wrote
biographies with some sort of pre conceived posture of who Jesus was, and molded
the story to present that character. This was not seen as dishonest in ancient times; in
fact, it was considered the truest of histories.
But in the age of the Enlightenment, scholars began concerning themselves with the
historical validity of the subjects they studied. This began the first wave of historical
Jesus scholarship. At this time, various scholars became intent on discovering the
historical Jesus, and began writing various works, presented as the life of Jesus. But
these writings suffered from an integral flaw, which has infected historical Jesus
scholarship until today. Rather than being works of discovery, they were truly
projects. Powell argues well, in his first chapter on the history of the historical Jesus
movement, that a life of Jesus would typically impose some grand scheme or
hypothesis upon the material that allowed everything to be interpreted in accord with
a consistent paradigm... [and] exclude material in the Gospels that did not fit with
this paradigm... (Powell, 12) Powell takes a

A nuclear war has been declared and the civil defense committee has been

on computer calculations the shelter can guarantee survival of only six people.
The committee must decide which six are to be included from a list of twelve to
go on and rebuild a new society. The twelve individuals they have to choose from
are the following: A 36 year old female physician, known to be a racist; Army drill
instructor; African American militant, biological researcher; Biochemist; Olympic

Fix It. Although he served time in prison the fact that he can fix things makes him a
good choice. There will be plenty of houses, cars and other things needing to be
fixed. Had the criminal charges been for murder or something of that nature, he
would not have been a good choice, because one might question his trustworthiness.
These four were easy because one needs: a leader to keep things organized, someone
to provide spiritual and emotional support, and someone to put things back together
again.
For the last two slots in the shelter they had a hard time deciding. Some wanted to
pick the 16 year old pregnant girl because she would be able to help repopulate the
world. Plus, it s just hard to think about killing someone carrying a child. They had
stated, though that they would use logic and, other than bringing a child into the
world she no other attributes. A movie star and an athlete are nice for entertainment
purposes, but are they necessary for rebuilding a new society. Not really. The
committee decided to give the last two slots to third year medical student and African
American militant biological researcher. The medical student can provide medical
care to those that get sick or hurt. The biological researcher can provide insight into
the effects the nukes had on the environment. When building a new society there is
going to be bumps along the way. The medical student and biological researcher can
provide treatment for injuries and sickness. They can
Catch Probability Research Paper
The newest tool created by the people that brought us Statcast is Catch Probability.
Catch Probability (http://m.mlb.com/news/article/217802340/statcast introduces

hit into the outfield based on how far the fielder had to run to catch the ball and
how long he had to get there. Based on the ability to quantify each play, they ve put
many catches into five categories (http://m.mlb.com/news/article/218680408/dalton

Genetic Engineering And The Human Race
Frankenstein, frogs with three legs and mice with two heads, that s what comes to
mind for most people when they hear the word genetic engineering. But the reality of
it is genetic engineering is much more than mad scientists sewing together monsters.
Made by the exploits of science, genetic engineering can be used to help people in
many more ways than most expect. Genetic engineeringis used for anything from
making enzymes to clean up oil spills that endanger our environment, to making
crops that can grow in all conditions and can yield the maximum amount of food.
This could especially benefit third world countries or places where food or water is
scarce. But most importantly, genetic engineering can be used to benefit humans...

Genetic engineers first find a trait or a gene they want to recreate, then they isolate
said gene and use a host cell to transfer it into and then use a vector which will
transfer the gene from place to place within the organism (Genetic Engineering).
Genetic engineering is already very prevalent in today s society. One of the
greatest advancements in genetic engineering was the creation of artificial insulin
for humans. Insulin is a product of the pancreas is used to break down foods and
absorb their nutrients. People that have diabetes produce little to no insulin and
sadly, until the development of insulin, most lived very short lives. In 1921,
Canadian scientists Frederick G. Banting and Charles H. Best were able to purify
insulin from a dog s pancreas. Over the years, the technique was refined, but it
wasn t perfect. Most of the insulin was obtained from cows and pigs so it was only
available in small quantities. It was expensive and some people had allergic reactions
to the insulin. It wasn t until the 1980s when genetic engineers were able to isolate
the gene for human production of insulin, using a process known as recombinant
DNA. Genetic engineers were able to insert the insulin gene into a plasmid which was
then inserted back into bacteria. The plasmid and bacteria then reproduced, creating
insulin molecules which could be gathered and purified. This was then mass
produced and was the first genetically

The Yellow Wallpaper By Charlotte Perkins Gilman Essay
I don t like to look out of the windows even there are so many of those creeping
women, and they creep so fast. I wonder if they all come out of that wallpaper as I
did? the woman behind the pattern was an image of herself. She has been the one
stooping and creeping. The Yellow Wallpaper was written by Charlotte Perkins
Gilman. In the story, three characters are introduced, Jane (the narrator), John, and
Jennie. The Yellow Wallpaper
is an ironic story that takes us inside the mind and
emotions of a woman suffering a slow mental breakdown. The narrator begins to
think that another woman is creeping around the room behind the wallpaper,
attempting to break free , so she locks herself in the room and begins to tear down
pieces of the wallpaper to rescue this trapped woman. To end the story, John unlocks
the door and finds Jane almost possessed by the woman behind the wallpaper.
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s feminist background gives a feminist standpoint in The
Yellow Wallpaper because the narrator s husband, John acts superior to the narrator.
One can pick out the connections between the author and the narrator in the story
fairly easy if there is knowledge of Gilman s life. For example, the piece titled Why
I Wrote The Yellow Wallpaper by Gilman, she states that she suffered from a severe
and continuous nervous breakdown, similar to what the narrator went through in The
Yellow Wallpaper. Also, she said her doctor concluded there was nothing wrong with
her and
Unreliable Narrator In Poe s Works
In literature, one of the most critical concepts we are faced with is interpretation. A
reader must interpret what they have read to make sense of the story and can only
do so by using elements of the plot, typically presented by the narrator. A reliable and
unreliable narrator provide the reader with different, possible versions of the tale,
which makes narration a crucial part of the story. An unreliable narratoris a narrator
who s credibility is put into question due to them being either biased, obscure, or
unhinged. In most of Edgar Allan Poe s short stories, the narrator tends to be
unreliable as they are portrayed as insane, fanatic psychopaths. In The Tell Tale Heart
and The Black Cat , Edgar Allan Poe makes use of unreliable narration... Show more

At first, the narrator informs the reader that his tenderness of heart was even so
conspicuous as to make the jest [his] companions (1). According to the narrator,
during his childhood he was once so good natured that his friends mocked him. If
telling the truth, then the narrator s horrifying change of mood makes him
unpredictable. The abrupt shift in spirit makes us evaluate the narrator as he
declares, for what disease is like Alcohol!...even Pluto began to experience the
effects of my ill temper (1). Anyone under the influence is not at a right state of
mind, therefore the narrator s reliability is obviously questioned. The use of the
word even shows that the fact Pluto was subjected to his ill temper was out of the
norm, thus characterizing the narrator as unstable. As the story progresses, the
narrator confesses, And then came, as if to [his] final and irrevocable overthrow, the
spirit of PERVERSENESS (2). Poe capitalizes perverseness to create the abnormal
agitation and excitement expressed by the narrator when he discusses such deviant
concepts. The fact that the narrator acts out of perverseness implies that he does not
reason or use logic; he is portrayed as a twisted psychopath who should not be
The Visual And Performance Arts Of Europe
Welcome, to my traveler s guide to the performing and visual arts. In this guide, you
will explore first hand, the visual and performance arts of Europe.
First, we will look at performance arts of Europe which, date back to early 534 B.C.
when Thespis won the first public contest for tragic poets in Greece. The term
thespian derives from Thespis s name. In addition, Thespis also introduced
performance masks, which would soon become a staple of Greek and Roman Theater.
Let s fast forward quite a ways, to 1576, where the first commercial theater is opened
in London, England, becoming the first Elizabeth playhouse in the world. Many

Visual art, has also been a prominent factor in European culture and society. Visual
art began in Europe during Prehistoric times, somewhere around 30 to 20000 BCE,
this art was located in a cave in Spain and is known as the El Castillo Cave Art ,
which is so far, the oldest known cave paintings in the world. Going further in time,
European artwork is emboldened by many great painters and architects such as
Leonardo DaVinci and Michelangelo; whom were famous for some of the greatest
canvas and architectural paintings known in the world today. Most of these paintings
from these artist, can be found in our next location, The Louvre, in Paris, France.
The Louvre, was built in 1190, as a fortress to the Empire of France. The LeMusee

reconstructed after it s time as a fortress, to serve as a royal palace. Its expansion
continued over the years, covering a total area of now 652, 300 square feet, much
more than its original square footage of less than 600,000. In 1793, after moving the
royal residence to Versailles by King Louis XIV; The Louvre, became an art museum,
Gender Roles In Remember The Titans
Most people don t realize that the media play up the stereotypes and gender roles
that are out there. We don t realize that the movies and television shows we watch
feed into the stereotypes and gender roles that we believe in. Remember the Titans,
directed by Boaz Yakin, tells the story about a high school football coach, Herman
Boone, attempting to integrate T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria in 1971.
Boone coming to T.C. Williams High School really upset many parents and
students. When the parents of the football players found out he was going to be
helping the head coach, Bill Yoast, many were fuming with anger. Why? Because
he is African American. Parents did not want their children playing African
American children in sports or sitting next to them in classrooms. This movie is
based on a true story and the film challenges everything we claim we know about
discrimination and racism in school. Boone and his family face horrible
experiences when moving to Alexandria. When moving to the neighborhood, many
neighbors were so upset but many were also happy that he didn t back down. He
was offered the head coach position but turned it down because he felt it would be
incredibly disrespectful to Coach Yoast. Boone Yoast agreed to make the
relationship work. The African American students meet with Coach Boone in the
gym, the meeting turns into a disaster when Coach Yoast and the white students
arrive and disturb the meeting. Gerry Bertier was one of the students among the
crowd of white students to interrupt. I m Gerry Bertier. I m the only All America
you got on this team. If you want us to play for you, you reserve over half the
positions ...we don t need any of your people on defense we re already set. said by
Gary Bertier to Coach Boone. Boone makes it clear that all players will be on the
team regardless of the color of their skin. Many stereotypes come into play at this
point in the movie. The coaches gather up all the players so they can go to training
camp at Gettysburg College, while gathering the students on a bus, Boone makes the
players sit next to each other. Neither one of the ethnic groups like this very much.
Once they get to the camp, they get paired to room together. One of the

Essay about Acoustic Theory and Synthesis
Acoustic Theory and Synthesis
Frequency:
Frequency means the number of cycles per second and depending on the amount of
cycles per second determines how high or low pitched the sound is and the time
that it takes to complete one cycle is called the period. Frequency is measured in
Hertz (Hz). And An average human is able to hear sounds between 20Hz and
20,000Hz.
As the cycles per second increases, the smaller the wavelengths become, therefore
there is a higher frequency which will cause the pitch of the sound to increase or get
higher.
If there is frequency of say 20KHz then it is going to be a much higher pitch than a
20Hz because there is a lot more cycles per second.

The Battle of Algiers and The Algerian Insurgency Essay
French Algeria is now called Algeria and won its independence from its colonial
power, France. The two political communities in French Algeria were the French
citizens and the Algerian people. The Algerian people were under French rule for
over one hundred years from 1830 to 1962 when they were given their independence
and recognized by France. The events of November 1, 1954, marked the birth of the
National Liberation Front (FLN) (Cherian). The Muslim population is the part of the
population that felt isolated and they wanted more political autonomy. The Muslim

when the French military became involved especially when they were on strike to
gain UN approval for an Algerian nation free from France but the French Army
forced them to their jobs and work. They instituted a curfew and checkpoints
between the two parts of Algeria where the French citizen were and the Algerian
people were housed. They then instituted bombs after their homes were bombed and
burned killing their family members and children. The FLN then built purse bombs
to attack the French civilians at local areas such as a restaurant, airport, and dance
club. They also started to attack the military when threatened and hid weapons in the
French occupied territory to attack the policemen. The French civilians were also
tired of friends and family getting killed so they started to attack Algerian children
whenever they saw them. The French citizens almost killed a young boy by trampling
and kicking him when he was on the ground until the police pulled the child to safety.
The Algerian insurgency used the strategy that Mao developed and perfected but
every nation or country has to tailor their strategy based on the cultural and ethnic

Santa Clause leaned his head against the sled, letting out a long sigh. It had been a
tough evening so far. The northern hemisphere was down, but he still had one
more hemisphere to go, and he had no idea what might be in store for him there.
Santa s thoughts ran to and fro from what if I never reach all the kids on time or
what if the kids begin to lose faith in me? So, he quickly picked up his reins and
gave them a slap, whoop, whoop, he called out to his reindeers, but exhaustion was
creeping in. He noticed the fluffy clouds taking the forms of little children and
candy canes, train sets, and teddy bears. His eyelids grew too heavy to keep them
open, and his head dropped to one side. Santa fell into a deep slumber... Slop,... Show

Suddenly, his thoughts were awakened by a rumbling song in the distance, and the
dog ran ahead. Wait up, Santa Clause shouted toward the direction the dog was
running. He quickly hurried and came upon an old swag man sitting by the fire.
Finally someone to talk to! Santa walked up to the man and began spilling his
story. Hi, I m sure you know me, right? The outfit kind of gives it away, but
anyway. My sled has crashed and lies in pieces, my reindeer have all but gone. I
need water, I m so parched. And I have no way of getting out, I m stuck, and....
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Take a breather me old mate. Let s just begin with your name.
What? said Santa, I thought we clarified that already? Oh dear, another helpless
vagabond who doesn t know my name. It s Santa Clause . Who of what cause? the
old man said in bewilderment. You know. S.A.N.T.A. C.L.A.U.S.E. Eh, The swag
man said cocking his head and levelling his eyebrow. Oh, never mind. I m too
much in a hurry to explain. I need a sled and my reindeers to continue my journey
before it is too late. Have you seen them at all? Looking down at his time watch he
exclaimed, Golly, look at the time! It s nearly past 1:30 am. I need supplies. Isn t
there any other village around here? Ay, but it s too late for all that. I say first you
just need to sit down and take a cuppa with me, said the swag man calmly. I don t
see all this rush in anything . No I cannot. There s
Postmodern Art and Artificial Environment Essay
During the 1960s and 1970s, artists were interested in rejecting the Modernist
obsession with the aesthetic and began by questioning the formal qualities tied to
this aesthetic .The goal of art in the post modern standard is no longer
predominantly behavioral, as it still was in the modern, but perceptive. The post
modern is the art of the artificial environment. Artists favored the readymade object
as more powerful than the supposedly new crafted objects produced by Modernist
artists. By willingly allowing the practice of appropriation that occurs within the
production of all art, these artists pulled the power of pre existing imagery and signs
to produce new works with multiple layers and multiple meanings. In order to
perceive the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He reduced art to a few basic shapes (quadrilaterals, spheres, triangles), colors (red,
yellow, blue, black) and types of lines and much of what he devised came in the
form of drawings and instructions or actions that could be carried out by someone
other than himself. He believed that the input of others including their joy,
boredom, frustration or whatever; remained part of the art that he designed. Now
people become more original and they were able to show their character in their
own and individual way. Artists during this period were more pessimistic and did
not see the world necessarily improving in the future. People no longer just look
for beauty or perfection, they found a way to look past that and even if it is one
sided people began to appreciate art in an aesthetic point of view. I feel that in this
day and age people lack the initiative to experiment and be daring to take risks; by
pushing boundaries and by not playing safe we could create something different. In
One and Three Chairs, the chair is what made his art. Joseph Kosuth represents one
chair three ways: as a mass produced chair, as a photograph, and as a copy of a
dictionary record for the word chair. The connection is therefore composed of an
object, an image, and words. Kosuth is interested in demonstrating three distinct ways
objects, pictures, and words that will all represent the basic fact of the chair. He
pushes the audience to think about how these three modes communicate
Fundamentals Of Physics Answers
1. What is your question?
Which ball will hit the hardwood floor the fastest the medium foam ball or the small
rubber ball?
2. What assumptions do you need to make to try to answer the question?
(Assumptions are things you don t know, but might suspect. Limit them!)
I am going to assume that the rubber ball will hit the floor the fastest because the
ball is smaller then the form ball.I m going to assume that I will drop if I drop the
balls at the same time the rubber ball will hit it floor first because the ball is
heavier than the foam ball. I m going to assume that the foam ball is to big and
lighter than the rubber ball so it will fall slower than the smaller ball.I assume if I

What rules do you have? (Rules are things that don t change.)
If I drop both ball at the same time one will hit the floor faster than the other. The
rubber ball will always be smaller and heavier than the foam ball. The foam ball will
always be bigger and lighter than the rubber ball. Both ball are round.
4. What is your first hypothesis?
When I drop the balls at the same time are length the speed of the balls will change
due to the weight and size of the balls.
5. What are your predictions?
I predict when the balls fall at the same speed it will hit the floor at the same time no
matter if the balls size or weight.
6. Now, run your experiment. What did you do?
I had both ball in each hand and had my arm at arms length across from my chest. I
had my sister watch me drop the balls at the same time to see which ball will hit the
floor the fastest. I drop the balls three time to see if the answer ever change.
7. What are your results?
The rubber ball hit the floor the fastest. Due to the foam ball being lighter the ball
went slower down to hit the floor then the rubber ball. The rubber ball hit the floor
first because of the ball being heavier than the other
The Russian Revolutions of 1917 Essay
The Russian Revolutions of 1917 There were two revolutions that occurred in Russia
in 1917. The first one, in February, overthrew the Russian monarchy. The second one,
in October, created the world s first Communist state.
The Russian revolutions of 1917 involved a series of uprisings by workers and
peasants throughout the country and by soldiers, who were predominantly of
peasant origin, in the Russian army. Many of the uprisings were organized and led
by democratically elected councils called soviets. The soviets originated as strike
committees and were basically a form of local self government.
The second revolution led to the rise of the modern Communist movement and to the

Known as the October Revolution or the Bolshevik Revolution, it was led by a group
of revolutionary socialists called Bolsheviks. It brushed aside the Provisional
Government. The Bolsheviks hoped that their revolution would result in more
fundamental changes to carry out socialist revolutions.
The Provisional Government was made up of liberal leaders, and as well as some
moderate socialists. The Prime minister, Lvov, was a wealthy landowner, who
favored an immediate constitutional monarchy and ultimately a republic. Lvov was
the outstanding personality in the Provisional Government. The most famous of the
moderate socialists was Aleksndr Kerensky, the minister of justice. The collapse of
the tsarist regime thus left in its wake two centers of political authority: (1) the
traditional politicians of the Provisional Government, who had little control over
the people, and (2) the democratically elected soviets, which exercised more
political power owing to support from the great majority of workers and soldiers.
This system of dual power proved to be unstable. The instability grew as the
moderate politicians proved increasingly unable to meet the rising expectations of the
laboring masses. The Provisional Government declared an end to tsarist repression
and established full civil liberties. It also promised early democratic elections, which
would decide the
The Nurse Practitioner
Growing up my family had little to no money. My parents, immigrants from El
Salvador, worked two jobs each. Home was a small space with a conjoined kitchen
and living room. When Mom and Dad first arrived to America, they never imagined a
child of theirs would become a university student. Coming to America itself was in
their wildest dreams. To them, an educationof that level was unattainable. Now, I
represent my family wherever I go. I am at TWU for my family and for my dreams.
One day, I will be the Nurse Practitioner I always envisioned. But more importantly, I
will give my parents and my grandmother everything they never had. Now that I am
older I comprehend the magnitude of their sacrifices. When I hear the name Texas

All my life they explained to me the importance of an education. You ve got to get
your education! It s the only way to get ahead in the world were the words told to
Sotomayor by her mother. Words that I heard my entire life. My parents instilled in
me that one day I could have something far beyond what they do. Intertwined in the
pages of Sotomayor s book is an account of her Mother s efforts to keep her
children educated. On one occasion her mother bought them educational
textbooks to study and even paid to get her children lessons. Like her mother, my
parents opened a world of possibility for me too. They worked extra shifts to get
me music lessons, waited outside of school an extra hour when I had events, and
payed for me to stay in sports. They went far and beyond to secure an education for
me and my sisters. The world branched out before me in a thousand new directions.
explains Sotomayor of the learning experiences her mother exposed her to. My
parents are an essential link in what my career goals have become.
A major step towards pursuing my career was deciding on a college to attend.
Visiting TWU was like a breath of fresh air. Like Sotomayor with Princeton, I
immediately made a firm decision to make it my school. Ironically, Sotomayor s
moment of distress when she visited Radcliffe was a lot like the one I experienced
when I visited the University of Texas in Arlington. Relating my important life
decisions to those of judge Sotomayor has been reassuring. I had a lot of insecurities
about not being good enough at TWU. Sometimes, however, I tend to sell myself
Comparing The Short Stories Loving The Dead
Through all of the dissimilarity, there are several resemblances. The raconteurs
shared their good memories of when they were kids. Throughout the two short
stories they had flashbacks to their childhood, of these memories they all held a
quality characteristic. They were an exemplary thing to think about from time to
time. Louis in Loving the Dead claimed that he hated everything about his
grandparents. He hated the thought of his grandfather giving him candies and
whispering in his ear or his grandmother s hands, which were pricked by sewing
needles and scaled by wash water (Currie Jr. 42 and 43). He claims to hate these
memories but continues to think of it, he only started to hate these flashbacks
because he can no longer have these
Thin Layer Chromotography Discussion
Thin Layer Chromotography Discussion and Conclusion
Easton Montgomery
Discussion:
In thin layer chromatography a liquid is pumped across a bed of particles. The
liquid that is pumped across is called the mobile phase and the particles are the
stationary phase. A mixture of the molecules that will be separated is put into the
mobile phase. Thin layer chromatography tells you/helps you determine the number
of compounds in a mixture, the purity of a compound, and the identity of
compounds if you have examples to pull information from. Thin layer
chromatography is used to separate nonvolatile mixtures. The dye that was the most
polar was the color red and pink which was Rhodamine B and the least polar was the
light pink color which was Sudan IV. Our first TLC plate had five... Show more

You can use thin layer chromatography for quantitative analysis to some extent. If
you use solutions of known concentrations and compare the unknown to the
standards, then you can gain some quantitative information. You can also calculate Rf
values taking the distance traveled divided by the total distance of the eluent. After
we chopped up our spinach leaf we used hexane and ethanol to separate out
compounds in our leaf. After adding water, we removed the top layer and spotted a
TLC plate to separate out our compounds. We also used a mixture of hexane/ethyl
acetate (1:1) and hexane/ethyl acetate (20:1) to use as our developing solution. The
(1:1) solution gave use six compounds separated out on a TLC plate with
xanthophyll being the most polar and carotene being the least polar. On the other
hand, the (20:1) solution gave us one compound that moved through our TLC plate.
Looking at the plate it seems like it is the carotene that moved while everything else
remained near the polar side of the plate. The most polar molecule was Rhodamine
B (bright pink red) then Fast Green (blue) then we had a clear compound show up,
then Bismark Brown (yellow orange) and the least polar compound was Sudan IV
The Pharmaceutical Industry s Connected Line Flow...
Executive summary In the pharmaceutical industry, most drugs are manufactured
in a highly standardized fashion. Researching, testing, and developing a new drug
is admittedly a complex, individualized process. However, the actual production of
a drug for a mass audience requires a generic approach known as the connected line
flow approach. When volume continues to increase, an assembly line is set up.
Each worker has a specific role, or task, to complete (Process design matrix, 2013,
Mind). Capsules are created and filled according to a standardized method; contents
are tested and workers roles are clearly defined. In contrast to the individualized
project approach like building a custom modular home or creating furniture using the
boutique job shop approach, creating drugs requires standardized automation
(Process flow structure, 2013, Net MBA). Each drug is not unique and crafted to the
needs of the individual purchaser. Such an approach would be logistically unfeasible.
In fact, allowing for quirky anomalies of design and production, which might be
welcome in a painted small batch produced piece of furniture created using job shop
methods, would be very dangerous when manufacturing pharmaceuticals. Every
capsule must contain exactly as much active substance as it is supposed to have: no
more and no less. Different pills may have different concentrations of the drug and are
marked accordingly. Even non active ingredients must be standardized, as they must

Similarities Between The Cake s Funeral And Their Eyes...
In Zora Neale Hurston s, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Janie goes through three
marriages, discovering herself along the way. At one point in her life, Janie
marries Joe, an important leader for the town of Eatonsville, a large contributor to
the town and well respected by many. Afterwards, she marries Tea Cake, a younger
man but also well respected by his fellow workers. While both of their funerals may
have the basic similarities of being funerals themselves, having many people, and
being somewhat fancy, upon a closer look Joe s funeralis an outreach of his being
controlling others, while Tea Cake s funeral is a memorial to him created by his
friends and family, which reveals how much better of a husband and friend Tea Cake
was.

This is evident with the passage stating, the gold and red and purple, the gloat and
glamor of the secret orders. Joe was so important to the whole town of Eatonsville
that these important men will come. Joe clearly wanted this, as the whole event is
styled to highlight his allure. A song titled, Safe in the Arms of Jesus, was being
played, which may insinuate that Joe viewed himself in a similar light to Jesus. In
addition, the paragraph ends with, The Little Emperor of the cross roads was
leaving Orange County as he had come with the out stretched hand of power. With
the whole celebration Joe, wished to establish and prove to everybody that even
after he is in his coffin, he is powerful. Even Janie herself has submit to his will
posthumously. Near the end, Janie, sent her face to Joe s funeral, and herself went
rollicking with the springtime across the world. With this sentence, Joe is flexing
his muscle of will over Janie, making her sit through a ceremony which she clearly
holds no real emotional attachment to, She wishes to be away in the springtime, but
instead her presence is controlled by Joe, even if he is not

Years Day. Galbraith, who is now 31, shared exactly what it was like to be a
competitive body builder, and told everyone about the harsh criticism she received
during that time. She told her followers that they must love their bodies and
themselves before they can begin to lose weight.
Along with her post, Galbraith shared a photo of herself on the beach, which she

  • 5. Mrs. Dalloway I. Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf, was published on May 14, 1925 in London, England. The novel follows Clarissa Dalloway and a variety of other characters throughout the span of one day in their lives in 1923 London. Woolf utilizes a narrative method of writing. With the novel s structure, the narrator possesses the ability to move inside of a character s mind and compose her thoughts and emotions immediately as events occur throughout the day. The novel s main character, Clarissa, is a middle aged woman who belongs to the upper middle class in society and is well married to a Member of Parliament Richard Dalloway. Clarissa s day is full of arrangements for a dinner party she plans to host that evening. During the novel, numerous other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than hold lengthy conversations between characters, she frequently writes only of small talk and leaves more serious topics to be recited in an individual s exclusive thoughts. One of her purposes in writing the novel is to expose the hypocrisy of society. The characters in the novel range from eccentric acquaintances to extravagant lords and ladies to vindictive tutors to suicidal veterans. One example of this theme occurs when Rezia and Septimus attempt to settle down in the park. When the airplane soars overhead, she writes, Tears ran down his cheeks (Woolf 21). While one may mistake this as joy or, at worst, sorrow over the recent war, Woolf gives the reality of the action beneath the surface, stating, They are signaling to me... this exquisite beauty... but he would not go mad. He would see no more (21). While Septimus dwindles on the brink of insanity, Rezia chatters away about nature, unaware of the mess resting beside her. Septimus portrays the appearance of one man yet expresses an entirely new persona through his contemplations. Another instance of the theme transpires when Miss Kilman and Clarissa wait for Elizabeth to retrieve her gloves before going shopping. Clarissa and Kilman both make attempts at small talk. However, both give their attentions to a mutual disgust of each other. Clarissa simply asks if Kilman is taking Elizabeth to the stores. Kilman replies dryly, but in

  • 7. Analysis Of The Novel A Short Story Short stories often present the single experience of a character or set of characters where its climax is marked by a moment of crisis, either in a literal or more emotional and spiritual sense. Unlike the novel, a short story does not provide the full details of the circumstances or backstory of the situation at hand, nor does it allow the reader to develop an in depth relationship with these characters. Despite its condensed form, the short storycan possess layers of subtexts and a sort of narrative ambiguity where pressure is placed on the reader to make something of these literary texts. To make sense of these subtexts, the reader should pay particular attention to the narrative voice being utilized because the narratorhas the ability to influence how a reader may respond to a literary text by setting up a perspective from which the reader sees it. To get a thorough analysis of a short story, the reader must analyze its narrator because the text s character is developed from the degree to which and the manner in which that identity is indicated in the text, and the choices that are implied (Bal 19). Evidence suggests that the experience a reader may get from a short story is mostly dependent upon how that story is presented. Mieke Bal refers to this as focalization, where the relation between who perceives and what is perceived colors the story with subjectivity (8). For instance, the psychology behind the supposed lovers behavior in D.H. Lawrence s

The narrator of The Necklace shows that Mathilde is a shallow person due to her insistence that she would not go to the ball without a new dress, and that she would only wear jewels, never flowers, although they were in fashion (67 68). Mathilde appears to be more concerned with how everybody thinks she looks, than how they actually think of her as a person. Mathilde furthers this impression when she and Loisle are leaving the dance and she would rather be in the cold than have the other ladies see them in their modest wraps of common life (69). However, the narrator of Vanka further portrays Vanka as a sympathetic, but naive, character. Similarly, all of the innocent Jews would be executed cruelly as Hitler treated them as if they had been devils. Or in a more Biblical context, had everyone agreed with the Romans perspectives that Christians were evil, Christianity would not have existed. To this point, the Pantheists could argue that Vengeance should not be done because there is a God, who is beyond Good and Evil, tells human not to do so. If God was beyond Good and Evil, how would he decide which actions are good and bad. As he was neither Good nor Evil, he could judge any action was moral or immoral. For instance, he could say forgiveness is Good. At the same time, he could also declare Killing is good, for goodness and badness did not simply exist in him. If God was this way, no one would choose to follow him. In contrast, a Good God creates a Moral Law, which commands people to forgive and not to kill. Universally, everyone knows that killing is bad, and forgiveness is good, but why it is so? Killing is bad because such action goes against the direction of the Moral Law. Conversely, Forgiveness is good because it abides by the Moral Law. A Good God makes the Moral Law, and solely the Good God leads men to a better world. A Pantheists God only leaves humanity as it has been. Another man made answer to the question is Dualism, which states that the universe is a battlefield of two Deities Good and Bad(Lewis, 1952, p. 42). However, if there were actually two fighting

  • 15. Commodification Of Halloween With the increase in reinterpretations of death and Halloween symbols, two fundamental things occurred, the mass commodification of Halloween and a decontextualization of the symbols of death. In 1978 the premiere of Halloween, directed by John Carpenter, directly placed the holiday itself in relation to horror and gruesome death, more so than the introduction of gothic horror ever did (Rogers 110; Khapaeva 58). The introduction of explicit horror, according to Rogers, created. a coded language that enables authors and invites their audiences to explore their fears, hidden desires, and anxieties (110). This established a creative space in which fantasy and dissociation could be merged creating a popularization of death without actually dealing with the reality of death itself. It created a space where the narrative of horror and death could be controlled and regulated, through established archetypes. This directly contrasted the collective psyche of the 1970s and 80s in the United States, which was dealing with the ramifications of the AIDS epidemic (the worst epidemic since Polio), and an increase in social, religious, and political conservatism (Khapaeva 78). Through horror movies and Halloween, social anxieties could be dealt with in an a political and creative way, while still maintaining the sanitized separation of hospital and culture. In the contemporary period, Halloween s popularity has increased. Personal expenditures on Halloween have drastically increased since the 2000s, to create a multi billion dollar industry, which has expanded the cultural awareness and practice of Halloween (Khapaeva 57). However, this expansion has led to the commodification of Halloween, by equating it with consumer culture. This has significant implications for the cultural conception of death as it equate previously potent symbols with cheap goods. But this might have been by design, as Grider argues that the mass commercialization of Halloween is another way in which collectively western culture can control the potentially dangerous incursion of the supernatural world in our everyday lives (10). Through the ownership of material goods associated with Halloween, the narrative and context of the concepts are further

They wrote biographies with some sort of pre conceived posture of who Jesus was, and molded the story to present that character. This was not seen as dishonest in ancient times; in fact, it was considered the truest of histories. But in the age of the Enlightenment, scholars began concerning themselves with the historical validity of the subjects they studied. This began the first wave of historical Jesus scholarship. At this time, various scholars became intent on discovering the historical Jesus, and began writing various works, presented as the life of Jesus. But these writings suffered from an integral flaw, which has infected historical Jesus scholarship until today. Rather than being works of discovery, they were truly projects. Powell argues well, in his first chapter on the history of the historical Jesus movement, that a life of Jesus would typically impose some grand scheme or hypothesis upon the material that allowed everything to be interpreted in accord with a consistent paradigm... [and] exclude material in the Gospels that did not fit with this paradigm... (Powell, 12) Powell takes a

These four were easy because one needs: a leader to keep things organized, someone to provide spiritual and emotional support, and someone to put things back together again. For the last two slots in the shelter they had a hard time deciding. Some wanted to pick the 16 year old pregnant girl because she would be able to help repopulate the world. Plus, it s just hard to think about killing someone carrying a child. They had stated, though that they would use logic and, other than bringing a child into the world she no other attributes. Genetic engineers first find a trait or a gene they want to recreate, then they isolate said gene and use a host cell to transfer it into and then use a vector which will transfer the gene from place to place within the organism (Genetic Engineering). Genetic engineering is already very prevalent in today s society. One of the greatest advancements in genetic engineering was the creation of artificial insulin for humans. Insulin is a product of the pancreas is used to break down foods and absorb their nutrients. People that have diabetes produce little to no insulin and sadly, until the development of insulin, most lived very short lives. In 1921, Canadian scientists Frederick G. Banting and Charles H. Best were able to purify insulin from a dog s pancreas. Over the years, the technique was refined, but it wasn t perfect. Most of the insulin was obtained from cows and pigs so it was only available in small quantities. It was expensive and some people had allergic reactions to the insulin. It wasn t until the 1980s when genetic engineers were able to isolate the gene for human production of insulin, using a process known as recombinant DNA. Genetic engineers were able to insert the insulin gene into a plasmid which was then inserted back into bacteria. The plasmid and bacteria then reproduced, creating insulin molecules which could be gathered and purified. This was then mass produced and was the first genetically

I wonder if they all come out of that wallpaper as I did? the woman behind the pattern was an image of herself. She has been the one stooping and creeping. The Yellow Wallpaper was written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. In the story, three characters are introduced, Jane (the narrator), John, and Jennie. The Yellow Wallpaper is an ironic story that takes us inside the mind and emotions of a woman suffering a slow mental breakdown. The narrator begins to think that another woman is creeping around the room behind the wallpaper, attempting to break free , so she locks herself in the room and begins to tear down pieces of the wallpaper to rescue this trapped woman. To end the story, John unlocks the door and finds Jane almost possessed by the woman behind the wallpaper. Charlotte Perkins Gilman s feminist background gives a feminist standpoint in The Yellow Wallpaper because the narrator s husband, John acts superior to the narrator. One can pick out the connections between the author and the narrator in the story fairly easy if there is knowledge of Gilman s life. For example, the piece titled Why I Wrote The Yellow Wallpaper by Gilman, she states that she suffered from a severe and continuous nervous breakdown, similar to what the narrator went through in The Yellow Wallpaper. • 28. Unreliable Narrator In Poe s Works In literature, one of the most critical concepts we are faced with is interpretation. A reader must interpret what they have read to make sense of the story and can only do so by using elements of the plot, typically presented by the narrator. A reliable and unreliable narrator provide the reader with different, possible versions of the tale, which makes narration a crucial part of the story. An unreliable narratoris a narrator who s credibility is put into question due to them being either biased, obscure, or unhinged. We don t realize that the movies and television shows we watch feed into the stereotypes and gender roles that we believe in. Remember the Titans, directed by Boaz Yakin, tells the story about a high school football coach, Herman Boone, attempting to integrate T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria in 1971. Boone coming to T.C. Williams High School really upset many parents and students. When the parents of the football players found out he was going to be helping the head coach, Bill Yoast, many were fuming with anger. Why? Because he is African American. Parents did not want their children playing African American children in sports or sitting next to them in classrooms. This movie is based on a true story and the film challenges everything we claim we know about discrimination and racism in school. Boone and his family face horrible experiences when moving to Alexandria. When moving to the neighborhood, many neighbors were so upset but many were also happy that he didn t back down. He was offered the head coach position but turned it down because he felt it would be incredibly disrespectful to Coach Yoast. Boone Yoast agreed to make the relationship work. The African American students meet with Coach Boone in the gym, the meeting turns into a disaster when Coach Yoast and the white students arrive and disturb the meeting. Gerry Bertier was one of the students among the crowd of white students to interrupt. I m Gerry Bertier. I m the only All America you got on this team. The coaches gather up all the players so they can go to training camp at Gettysburg College, while gathering the students on a bus, Boone makes the players sit next to each other. He reduced art to a few basic shapes (quadrilaterals, spheres, triangles), colors (red, yellow, blue, black) and types of lines and much of what he devised came in the form of drawings and instructions or actions that could be carried out by someone other than himself. He believed that the input of others including their joy, boredom, frustration or whatever; remained part of the art that he designed. Now people become more original and they were able to show their character in their own and individual way. Artists during this period were more pessimistic and did not see the world necessarily improving in the future. People no longer just look for beauty or perfection, they found a way to look past that and even if it is one sided people began to appreciate art in an aesthetic point of view. I feel that in this day and age people lack the initiative to experiment and be daring to take risks; by pushing boundaries and by not playing safe we could create something different. In One and Three Chairs, the chair is what made his art. Joseph Kosuth represents one chair three ways: as a mass produced chair, as a photograph, and as a copy of a dictionary record for the word chair. The connection is therefore composed of an object, an image, and words. Kosuth is interested in demonstrating three distinct ways objects, pictures, and words that will all represent the basic fact of the chair. He pushes the audience to think about how these three modes communicate
  • 41. Fundamentals Of Physics Answers 1. What is your question? Which ball will hit the hardwood floor the fastest the medium foam ball or the small rubber ball? 2. What assumptions do you need to make to try to answer the question? (Assumptions are things you don t know, but might suspect. Limit them!) I am going to assume that the rubber ball will hit the floor the fastest because the ball is smaller then the form ball.I m going to assume that I will drop if I drop the balls at the same time the rubber ball will hit it floor first because the ball is heavier than the foam ball. I m going to assume that the foam ball is to big and lighter than the rubber ball so it will fall slower than the smaller ball.I assume if I drop both balls at arm length at the same time they wouldn t hit at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What rules do you have? (Rules are things that don t change.) If I drop both ball at the same time one will hit the floor faster than the other. The rubber ball will always be smaller and heavier than the foam ball. The foam ball will always be bigger and lighter than the rubber ball. Both ball are round. 4. What is your first hypothesis? When I drop the balls at the same time are length the speed of the balls will change due to the weight and size of the balls. 5. What are your predictions? I predict when the balls fall at the same speed it will hit the floor at the same time no matter if the balls size or weight. 6. Now, run your experiment. What did you do? I had both ball in each hand and had my arm at arms length across from my chest. I had my sister watch me drop the balls at the same time to see which ball will hit the floor the fastest. I drop the balls three time to see if the answer ever change. 7. What are your results? The rubber ball hit the floor the fastest. Due to the foam ball being lighter the ball went slower down to hit the floor then the rubber ball. The rubber ball hit the floor first because of the ball being heavier than the other
  • 42. The Russian Revolutions of 1917 Essay The Russian Revolutions of 1917 There were two revolutions that occurred in Russia in 1917. The first one, in February, overthrew the Russian monarchy. The second one, in October, created the world s first Communist state. The Russian revolutions of 1917 involved a series of uprisings by workers and peasants throughout the country and by soldiers, who were predominantly of peasant origin, in the Russian army. Many of the uprisings were organized and led by democratically elected councils called soviets. The soviets originated as strike committees and were basically a form of local self government. The second revolution led to the rise of the modern Communist movement and to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Known as the October Revolution or the Bolshevik Revolution, it was led by a group of revolutionary socialists called Bolsheviks. It brushed aside the Provisional Government. The Bolsheviks hoped that their revolution would result in more fundamental changes to carry out socialist revolutions. The Provisional Government was made up of liberal leaders, and as well as some moderate socialists. The Prime minister, Lvov, was a wealthy landowner, who favored an immediate constitutional monarchy and ultimately a republic. Lvov was the outstanding personality in the Provisional Government. The most famous of the moderate socialists was Aleksndr Kerensky, the minister of justice. The collapse of the tsarist regime thus left in its wake two centers of political authority: (1) the traditional politicians of the Provisional Government, who had little control over the people, and (2) the democratically elected soviets, which exercised more political power owing to support from the great majority of workers and soldiers. This system of dual power proved to be unstable. The instability grew as the moderate politicians proved increasingly unable to meet the rising expectations of the laboring masses. The Provisional Government declared an end to tsarist repression and established full civil liberties. It also promised early democratic elections, which would decide the

Home was a small space with a conjoined kitchen and living room. When Mom and Dad first arrived to America, they never imagined a child of theirs would become a university student. Coming to America itself was in their wildest dreams. To them, an educationof that level was unattainable. Now, I represent my family wherever I go. I am at TWU for my family and for my dreams. One day, I will be the Nurse Practitioner I always envisioned. But more importantly, I will give my parents and my grandmother everything they never had. Now that I am older I comprehend the magnitude of their sacrifices. When I hear the name Texas Woman s University,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All my life they explained to me the importance of an education. You ve got to get your education! It s the only way to get ahead in the world were the words told to Sotomayor by her mother. Words that I heard my entire life. My parents instilled in me that one day I could have something far beyond what they do. Intertwined in the pages of Sotomayor s book is an account of her Mother s efforts to keep her children educated. On one occasion her mother bought them educational textbooks to study and even paid to get her children lessons. Like her mother, my parents opened a world of possibility for me too. They worked extra shifts to get me music lessons, waited outside of school an extra hour when I had events, and payed for me to stay in sports. They went far and beyond to secure an education for me and my sisters. The world branched out before me in a thousand new directions. explains Sotomayor of the learning experiences her mother exposed her to. My parents are an essential link in what my career goals have become. A major step towards pursuing my career was deciding on a college to attend. Visiting TWU was like a breath of fresh air. Like Sotomayor with Princeton, I immediately made a firm decision to make it my school. Ironically, Sotomayor s moment of distress when she visited Radcliffe was a lot like the one I experienced when I visited the University of Texas in Arlington. Relating my important life decisions to those of judge Sotomayor has been reassuring. I had a lot of insecurities about not being good enough at TWU. Sometimes, however, I tend to sell myself

Throughout the two short stories they had flashbacks to their childhood, of these memories they all held a quality characteristic. They were an exemplary thing to think about from time to time. Louis in Loving the Dead claimed that he hated everything about his grandparents. He hated the thought of his grandfather giving him candies and whispering in his ear or his grandmother s hands, which were pricked by sewing needles and scaled by wash water (Currie Jr. 42 and 43). He claims to hate these memories but continues to think of it, he only started to hate these flashbacks because he can no longer have these

Thin Layer Chromotography Discussion Thin Layer Chromotography Discussion and Conclusion Easton Montgomery Discussion: In thin layer chromatography a liquid is pumped across a bed of particles. The liquid that is pumped across is called the mobile phase and the particles are the stationary phase. A mixture of the molecules that will be separated is put into the mobile phase. Thin layer chromatography tells you/helps you determine the number of compounds in a mixture, the purity of a compound, and the identity of compounds if you have examples to pull information from. Thin layer chromatography is used to separate nonvolatile mixtures. The dye that was the most polar was the color red and pink which was Rhodamine B and the least polar was the light pink color which was Sudan IV. Our first TLC plate had five... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You can use thin layer chromatography for quantitative analysis to some extent. If you use solutions of known concentrations and compare the unknown to the standards, then you can gain some quantitative information. You can also calculate Rf values taking the distance traveled divided by the total distance of the eluent. After we chopped up our spinach leaf we used hexane and ethanol to separate out compounds in our leaf. After adding water, we removed the top layer and spotted a TLC plate to separate out our compounds. We also used a mixture of hexane/ethyl acetate (1:1) and hexane/ethyl acetate (20:1) to use as our developing solution. The (1:1) solution gave use six compounds separated out on a TLC plate with xanthophyll being the most polar and carotene being the least polar. On the other hand, the (20:1) solution gave us one compound that moved through our TLC plate. Looking at the plate it seems like it is the carotene that moved while everything else remained near the polar side of the plate. The most polar molecule was Rhodamine B (bright pink red) then Fast Green (blue) then we had a clear compound show up, then Bismark Brown (yellow orange) and the least polar compound was Sudan IV
  • 46. The Pharmaceutical Industry s Connected Line Flow... Executive summary In the pharmaceutical industry, most drugs are manufactured in a highly standardized fashion. Researching, testing, and developing a new drug is admittedly a complex, individualized process. However, the actual production of a drug for a mass audience requires a generic approach known as the connected line flow approach. When volume continues to increase, an assembly line is set up. Each worker has a specific role, or task, to complete (Process design matrix, 2013, Mind). Capsules are created and filled according to a standardized method; contents are tested and workers roles are clearly defined. In contrast to the individualized project approach like building a custom modular home or creating furniture using the boutique job shop approach, creating drugs requires standardized automation (Process flow structure, 2013, Net MBA). Each drug is not unique and crafted to the needs of the individual purchaser. Such an approach would be logistically unfeasible. In fact, allowing for quirky anomalies of design and production, which might be welcome in a painted small batch produced piece of furniture created using job shop methods, would be very dangerous when manufacturing pharmaceuticals. Every capsule must contain exactly as much active substance as it is supposed to have: no more and no less. Different pills may have different concentrations of the drug and are marked accordingly. Even non active ingredients must be standardized, as they must

Afterwards, she marries Tea Cake, a younger man but also well respected by his fellow workers. While both of their funerals may have the basic similarities of being funerals themselves, having many people, and being somewhat fancy, upon a closer look Joe s funeralis an outreach of his being controlling others, while Tea Cake s funeral is a memorial to him created by his friends and family, which reveals how much better of a husband and friend Tea Cake was. Joe was so important to the whole town of Eatonsville that these important men will come. Joe clearly wanted this, as the whole event is styled to highlight his allure. A song titled, Safe in the Arms of Jesus, was being played, which may insinuate that Joe viewed himself in a similar light to Jesus. In addition, the paragraph ends with, The Little Emperor of the cross roads was leaving Orange County as he had come with the out stretched hand of power. With the whole celebration Joe, wished to establish and prove to everybody that even after he is in his coffin, he is powerful. Even Janie herself has submit to his will posthumously. Near the end, Janie, sent her face to Joe s funeral, and herself went rollicking with the springtime across the world. With this sentence, Joe is flexing his muscle of will over Janie, making her sit through a ceremony which she clearly holds no real emotional attachment to, She wishes to be away in the springtime, but instead her presence is controlled by Joe, even if he is not
