Informative Speech About Oktoberfest
Intro sind Sie überhaupt zu oktoberfest gewesen? Or in English we say, have you ever been to
Oktoberfest? Oktoberfest is held in Munich, Bavarian, Germany every year from September 16th to
October 3rd, so it runs for 16 days. But will run for 17 18 days if the 16 days fall before October 3rd. I
would like to inform you about the wonderful history, clothing, food, drinks, and traditions behind this
historic festival.
History
Originally, Oktoberfest was a wedding celebration that was done in 1810. It was to celebrate the
marriage between Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony hildburghausen. Many days
of feasting, drinking, and horse races were put together in order to celebrate the marriage between
them. The festivities were held on the fields in front of the gates. These fields are were called
Theresienwiese or Theresas Meadow to honor the Crown Princess. Today, the fields are called Wisen
by the Munich locals. The citizens of Munich enjoyed this event so much that they made it a tradition,
which became Octoberfest. Today, the festival is more popular than ever with 5.2 million people
attending during Octoberfest 2016.
Clothing
The two types of clothing that are mainly worn at Oktoberfest are the Lederhosen and Dirndl. The
Lederhosen is worn by men and the Dirndl is worn by women. The Lederhosen emerged from Alpine
regions of Germany and Austria during the 18th century. Even though there were leather pants during
this time, southern Germany created the

Marjane Satrapi s Perspective Of Persepolis
Perspective of Persepolis Marjane Satrapi s perspective in Persepolis is unique because of her gender,
social status, and the danger around her. She is a young girl from a royal family when the Islamic
Revolution begins in Iran. She experiences many traumatic events in her childhood but is shielded by
a lot by her parents. Because of these things, her perspective is slightly altered and not entirely
accurate.
Being a female in Iran before the Islamic Revolution was not that different than being a female in
America, but after the Islamic Revolution, women were expected to wear hijabs, obey their husbands,
and conform to traditional gender stereotypes. These traditional gender stereotypes are shown in the
photo to the left. Marjane, being the stubborn girl she is, sees this double standard and does everything
she can to rebel against it, which gets her into some trouble. For example, she once had a run in with
the Guardians of the Revolution , who yelled at her for having symbols of decadence , like sneakers
and Michael Jackson pins, and for showing her hair below her headscarf (Satrapi 133). If she was not
a girl, this would not have happened to her. This shows that her perspective on the Revolution was
different because of her gender. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her family was once the ruling family of Iran, but they were overthrown in 1953. They still, however,
retained very high social status, as shown n the image. Her father had a car and their family had a
maid. This maid was Marjane s first experience with injustice when she was six years old. She didn t
understand why the maid couldn t see the neighboring boy just because she was a maid. She learned at
a very young age that people were treated unfairly and wanted to stop it by becoming a prophet. If she
had not been in such a rare social class, she would not have seen this side of Iran so clearly, which is
what makes her perspective

Romantic Love In The Hunger Games, By Suzanne Collins
North American media is known in many forms to include a romantic subplot between the main
protagonist and a major side character, underneath the main morals and plot the story conveys. These
romances in media, particularly films and novels, are uncreative and dissatisfying. They distract from
major events within the narrative and divert the reader s attention away from the author s message and
morals they are trying to impart. Also, the undermining of female characters is a major issue faced in
the writing of these romances into stories. Many narratives, though, may originally have good
intentions with the insertion of a relationship, but society s glamorisation of romantic love holds them
on a pedestal until they ve turned stale, so in turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The romance in a fiction becomes the main question in social outlets and frequent questions like Team
Peeta or Team Gale from The Hunger Games fans arise. As a society we hypersexualise and
romanticise our media, so a story like The Hunger Games theme is ironically missed. This trilogy,
written by Suzanne Collins, revolves around Katniss and her society s yearly ritual to force children to
kill each other in a so called entertaining way, with media coverage. Katniss too, falls in love with a
boy, and they manage to survive a reaping together. The characters are glamorised by the media within
the book, ignoring the deaths of children, as Suzanne Collins tries to hint to real society what the
media does. Immediately, the story took off and the love triangle popularised within the book became
real, and media outlets ask fans the same question, ignoring the ideologies the author provided. The
relationship within this narrative stood for an important point within the plot of the story, negating
previous arguments and not in itself disappointing, yet media distorts it, turning it into a dissatisfying
love triangle. The major fault in media s coverage of these relationships is it falls in line with both
aforementioned faults of romance in novels, how it clouds the author s morals and intentions of
writing, and with this engrossment in a single point, the media doesn t only demean the female
characters, but any character, as the only involvement of characters in discussion is who they are in a
relationship

Beloved Jungle Imagery
In Toni Morrison s Beloved, Stamp Paid considers the impact of slavery on all of those involved. He
uses references to an untamed jungle in order to convey the concept spreading corruption. Morrison
utilizes threatening diction through jungle imagery in order to establish a theme of corruption caused
through slavery.
Morrison uses jungle imagery to represent the spreading corruption from slavery. When addressing the
jungle that white people think lives within their slaves, Stamp Paid describes it as Swift unnavigable
waters, winging screaming baboons, sleeping snakes, red gums read for their sweet white blood .
Here, Morrison uses the wild jungle imagery to display the unkempt and untamable demeanor of the
corruption that is associated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Stamp Paid discusses the effects of the jungle/slavery on white people he states, Touched them
every one . Here, a syntax is utilized that eliminates the subject of the sentence that is performing the
action of touching . The elimination of the subject within this syntax acts to convey the jungle/slavery
as threatening due to its vagueness, as it is not even given a title within the sentence. The perceived
threat of the unnamed subject in conjunction with the intrusive diction of the verb that it is enacting,
touching , acts to emphasize the invasive nature of the threat of the jungle/slavery on white people.
Stamp Paid utilizes the same syntax when further discussing its impact on white people: Changed and
altered them . The syntax here eliminates the subject as well, providing the same sense of a threat due
to the vague address of it. This syntax with the further threatening diction of changed and altered
being performed by the unnamed subject causes it to be further seem as a threat. The unnamed subject
is in reference to slavery, thus, Morrison utilizes syntax in this manner in order to further emphasize
the theme of corruption through slavery, as it expresses that slavery is invasive for the white people
and, in turn, causes them to become

Vince Squibb s Binge Boy
Intro Binge Boy directed by Vince Squibb is an advertisement to support responsible drinking. To
demonstrate how the advert was effective with the actions of the boy and the pacing will be introduced
as well as the set up of the scenes. These are here to make an effective advertisement to persuade the
audience to react to irresponsible drinking. Body 1 The actions in Binge Boy are distinguished
because they emphasise that intoxication in adolescence can lead to injuries, messiness and
destruction. When the boy poor s the food on himself, his actions have proven that intoxication can
cause messiness. Similarly the boy s actions have been portrayed to exaggerate the poor actions
alcohol can lead to. This reaching out to other adolescence and parents showing them how the
adolescence could turn out. Whereas this wouldn t affect adults because they have already had their
experience with irresponsible drinking. Body 2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the boy kicks the radio, he is surrounded by props that create a dull household whilst the boy s
body language suggests he has become violent. The bleakness of the lighting is symbolic of the
negative use of alcohol, helping fit the broody mood. The boy s costuming compliments the
consequences of drinking by showing that intoxication can result in violence and destruction of
property, therefore promoting a social message to adolescence to drink responsibly. This is an
effective message because it is relatable and the audience can make connotations to themselves and

The Normal Distribution Is A Continuous, Unimodal And...
The normal distribution is a continuous, unimodal and symmetric distribution. For a typical normal
distribution, a mesokurtic (which means to have a moderate peak and tails for a graph), definition is
one that has a mean of 0 and a standard deviation of 1. While this is the case, there might be other
normal distributions with means that are not 0 and a standard deviation that is not 1, for these cases,
we use their means and standard deviation. For example, if a normal distribution had a mean of 2 and
a standard deviation of 3, then in order to clarify that it is indeed a normal distribution, we write N(
2,3). Among the normal distributions, we have a standard normal, exponential, uniform and beta.
These are varieties of distributions we can get within a normal distribution based on factors like
number of cases for example and where the cases were drawn from. At times when it gets complicated
to distinguish between the standard deviation of a variable and that of a sampling distribution, there is
a solution. The standard deviation for a sampling distribution is called a standard error and this
literally means that if a sampling distribution is normal, then 68% of its samples will lie within one
standard error of the mean and 98% within 1.98 standard error of the mean. The normal distribution is
useful not just due a random variable following a normal distribution, but also because the Central
Limit Theorem, which is a theorem that shows the sampling distribution of the mean

Europeans often thought Native Americans on one hand vicious cannibals, with no social
organization, but on another hand pictured Indian society as being orderly, advanced, and civilized.
There are three famous sixteenth century pictures. Showing that Indians were civilized people. Life
among the Eastern Woodland economy looks in the first painting very civilized. The Eastern
Woodlands economy seems stable for the men making canoes. Their religion looks to be a dance ritual
for their gods. As their diet seems to be made up of vegetables that they have grown, fish that they
caught, and meat they have caught. The Eastern Woodland Indians wore cloth from animals they
skinned, and wore as a skirt. Their values look to be protecting their village

Pikes Peak-Personal Narrative
Pikes Peak is a beautiful, rocky mountain with a fantastic view. As my family and I started driving up
the mountain the sun makes me squint like lemon juice squirted me in the eyes. Heading up the
mountain is frightening as the car goes around and around right on the edge of the cliff. The drive
feels like a slow amusement park ride. First, it s a beautiful pine tree forest lookout. It rows of pines
trees rising up the mountain. Once we reached out of the forest, there s a bunch of cliffs and coming
up close to the edge which is a little frightening, but it s a spectacular view, so it s worth it. Lakes were
fun to enjoy the view of, there s three of them and they are huge. As we went higher up the scene was

The Tragedy Of The Titanic Disaster
On the night of April 14, 1912 the world was struck with disaster as the RMS Titanic collided with an
iceberg and sunk into the sea. Only 31.6% survived the disaster. In order to understand what factors
lead to the highest chances of survival, this project uses a Titanic passenger database and decision
trees in order to classify survivors into two groups, survived and perished. Then using this
information, rank the most important factors regarding the likelihood of survival. From our
experiments we found that the most important factor in surviving the Titanic disaster was title and that
a decision tree that created around that variable as its highest level decision had a correct classification
rate of 79.425%

Additionally, the database also provides the class that the passenger was in, their ticket number, their
cabin number, ticket price, and where they embarked. From this information, we hope to understand
what factors played and role in survival and which were the most important.
The rest of this paper proceeds as follows: In section 2, this paper discusses the creation of a decision
tree. Section 3 describes to experimentation on the Titanic dataset. Section 4 gives the results of the
comparison and the conclusions from the project.
2 Creating a Decision Tree
We decided that the best to answer these questions would be to create a decision tree in order to
classify which passengers into two categories survived and perished. By creating a decision tree that
was able to classify most of the passengers statuses correctly, we know which of the factors were the
most important due to the fact that the most important factors would be located at the top of the tree.
The factors located on lower levels of the tree are less important, due to the fact that they are the
deciding factor for survival for a smaller group of people.
To create a decision tree, we begin by cleaning the data that we receive from the database. First, we
remove the names of the passengers, due to the fact that we can more easily refer to them by their
passenger ids. We also remove the information connected to cabin number, due

Stalin s Curse
This historical investigation assesses the following question: To what extent did Joseph Stalin cause
tension between the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics during the
World War II era? To grasp the true cause of the Cold War, research must include insight into separate
ideals believed by each; the will of communism spread vs the will of capitalism to contain it; the
anxiety of nuclear war; and the presidency of Harry S. Truman. The main sources will include Stalin s
Curse, written by Robert Gellately, and A History of Twentieth Century Russia, authored by Robert

Service is a Professor of Russian History and Politics. His book was a secondary evaluation, published
in 1998. The purpose was to explore the actions of the Soviet government and its leader Joseph Stalin
through testimonials of firsthand accounts. This source is valuable because it brings to light the
intentions of Stalinist Russia and the conflict the USSR brought to the Eastern and Western
hemispheres. This source is valuable as it gives an objective, expansive overview of the Stalinist era
of the Soviet Union. Its contents include details of Stalin s actions and quotations of pained Russians.
Rybalchenko claims, You must lie down and die... Absolutely everyone says openly how everyone is
discontented with life. Service writes, In foreign policy, he felt nervous about the USA s ambitions.
Through both these, one can see into the terrible conditions Stalin has created in Russia. As far as
limitations go, Robert Service fails to take a side on Stalin s reign and therefore leaves the reader
feeling confused on whom is right.
2. Investigation Joseph Stalin was one of the most powerful men in history. Every decision he made
affected the world not only around the USSR, but also everywhere else. Such was clearly evident,
especially in his opposition to relations with the Capitalist Western hemisphere and oppression of his
own nation. Accordingly, Sokolsky describes Stalin s

Sir Thomas Malory s Excalibur
When you think of the name Sir Thomas Malory you might think of a brave knight who fights in the
great battles. Believe it or not but this guy spent most of his life in jail. Historians claimed that this
guy committed crimes like stealing cattle and other things. Malory loved to hunt and compete. There
was a very good chance that he wrote a collection of books while he was in jail because he was knight
and probably let him have access to books. In the collections of books that he wrote there was one
called From Morte D Arthur and in this story and a movie called Excalibur there are 3 messages of
chivalry.
First of I will tell you what chivalry is. Chivalry is seen today but started out back in king Arthur s
day. It is the code of the knights. Things like being loyal, honest, and courage. For example when a
lady walks in you stand up and if there is no seat then you give up your own seat for the lady. Also
you always respect your elders so if there is no seat available then like a lady, you would give up your
seat. In King Arthur s time if you were a knight you had to obey they code of the knight which was the
code of chivalry. The code made it so if you were a knight then you were not able to have a wife but
you were able to have a girl to fight for. It was a life time deal with the king to keep your code of
chivalry and devote your life to the good cause of the king and the Kingdome. In the movie Excalibur
one knight showed his loyalty to his king Arthur by doing

Inclusion In The Classroom
What are your thoughts on the inclusion of students with disabilities in regular education classrooms?
The inclusion of students with disabilities in a traditional education classroom has been a subject of
controversy for many years. Often times it is at the center of discussion amongst administrators,
teachers, and parents. Inclusion is a philosophy and is meant to create settings where all students in a
K 12 school and classroom are a full part of the learning community regardless of their strengths or
weaknesses. Those who support inclusion believe that the child always should begin in a traditional
educational environment and be removed only when appropriate services can t be provided in the
regular classroom. Full inclusion means all students,

What Is The Role Of Monastic Issues In Preserving Roman...
This historical study will examine the problems of monastic issues in preservation of roman
civilization and the problem of Christian conversions for pagan societies in Europe during the early
Medieval period of Europe. The purpose of European monasteries was to act in accordance with the
Church of Rome s policy to preserve Roman traditions in government and Christian practices in
primarily pagan tribal communities. During this time, the primary writings of St. Benedict define the
purpose of the monastery to spread Christianity as a source of religious power throughout Europe.
More so, the role of monastic culture in Europe society defines the preservation of roman
administration and culture throughout areas considered to be barbaric , such as the German tribal
kingdom along the Rhine that St. Columban describes in the Boat Song. In addition to preserving
Christian society in the Roman Catholic model, the writings of St. Columba define the monastic rules
of the early medieval monastery as a vehicle to promote Roman Catholic cultural values as a
replacement for the polder pagan tribal models found throughout Europe. In essence, the successful
rise of Roman Catholic monasteries in the early medieval period define the problems of preserving
Roman civilization and by converting pagans that monks had to endure within European pagan
culture. The preservation of Roman culture and administration was a crucial problem for monks
during the 5th and 6th centuries throughout Germany

Allegory and Symbolism in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “Young...
Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown is an excellent example of the use of allegories and
symbolism as a form of satire on Puritan faith. According to Frank Preston Stearns, author of The Life
and Genius of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hawthorne may have intended this story as an exposure of the
inconsistency, and consequent hypocrisy, of Puritanism (Stearns 181). Throughout the story of Young
Goodman Brown, Hawthorne tries to infuse as many symbols and allegories as he can to enhance the
overall meaning of his story. He uses the village, Goodman Brown, Faith, the man in the forest, and
the time spent in the forest as either a symbol or an allegory to get his point across that Puritans are
not always what they seem to be. One of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the audience is aware of these two pieces of information they can infer that the allegory
Hawthorne is writing about is how he sees faith transitioning from a young faith to an adult faith of a
Puritan. Brown in the beginning of the story is a young Puritan with young faith, but by the end of the
story he has changed into an adult and does not know if he has faith anymore. Although Brown s faith
is questionable the books states that he continues to pray and go to church (Hawthorne 337), which
would be considered hypocritical to some. If Brown s name is exchanged with Hawthorne s the
readers can see why he saw the Puritans hypocritical and why he left his faith. Notably Faith, the
protagonist s wife, plays a huge role as an allegory and a symbol throughout Hawthorne s Young
Goodman Brown. In this story Faith s name plays as an allegory. At first this could easily be missed
because it sounds like a common name for a woman, but once the readers get further into the story
they realize that her name plays an enormous role in the story s plot. Faith s name symbolizes Brown s
faith in God. In the story when Brown meets the man in the forest the man says, You are late
Goodman Brown, and Brown replies, Faith kept me back awhile (Hawthorne 330). At this point of the
story the audience knows for

Prejudice In The Holocaust
The Holocaust is a prime example of prejudice taken to a catastrophic level. It was a large scale event
almost unparalleled to that of any other in terms of people killed and atrocities committed. Violence
against Jews and their properties were both commonplace and promoted, and anti Semitism among
Nazis and their associates ran rampant. By unlawfully persecuting a particular race through state
sponsored government support, racism flourished and led the way to a rise of an apocalyptic genocide.
With authorization from the Nazi party allocated to its soldiers, troops confiscated Jewish property,
pillaged numerous synagogues and stores, and murdered Jews in a short period of time. Reliable
assistance to the suffering Jews was hard to find because of the Nazis brainwashing of the nation
through abundant propaganda. This kind of widespread discrimination inhibited the Jewish people s
ability to speak out against this obvious prejudice. While these attacks were just the tip of the iceberg
in comparison to later deeds committed by the Nazis, they were still fundamental to the eventual
extermination of the Jewish race. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Energy Security in the Asia Pacific Region
ENERGY SECURITY IN THE ASIA PACIFIC REGION To meet China s fast rising energy demands,
Chinese leaders exerted great effort with a market oriented approach and a state centered approach.
The market oriented approach look for energy safety by better assimilation of national and
international markets ...state intervention would be restricted to the dispersal of data in a multilateral
context, the help of innovation, and, for few management of a strategic oil reserve which would be
applied in case of fleeting supply interruption. In contrast, the state centered approach is based upon
neo mercantilist a thought that relies on bilateral diplomatic contacts with oil producing countries to
strengthen energy security by the use of national resource and state owned enterprise investments in
overseas energy resources and firm control of exports and imports of energy products. Though market
oriented economic change has been the way of post Mao reforms, the market oriented approach has
not increased momentum in the energy division because the Chinese leadership has mull over China s

(macroinvertebrates and wildlife) and Chemicals characteristics (pH, dissolved oxygen, phosphates,

was concluded that the health of the water was good to excellent. What was found was that many of
the macroinvertebrates found in the water were sensitive or facultative, meaning the water quality was
good enough for them to live in. Also, the level of ph, temperature, dissolved oxygen, phosphates,

Underwater grasses, or Elodea, was observed as well. This wide variety of life is a good indicator of
the water s health.
The chemical characteristics observed and documented were pH, temperature, phosphate, nitrate,
turbidity, and dissolved oxygen. Each of these chemical levels were documented and found differently.
Most were found using a kit or a device. The numbers found, would tell us how polluted the stream
was and how much nutrients were in the water. Each chemical has a scale for telling what a good level
is and what a bad level is. If an excess amount of nutrients was found in the water, algae could be
formed. When algae is formed it blocks sunlight from shining into the water, which creates dead
zones. This is called eutrophication. A dead zone is an area where there is no life. This can cause
major problems like population issues and more. If the algae continues to grow in the river, the whole
body of water can die out, and people as well as other organisms are very dependent on the
Susquehanna. While on the river though, there was an absence of algae, so sunlight is able to get
through the water, which is very good.
Physical characteristics are important as well. While canoeing, many things were observed and
notices. Tires were seen at the bottom of the river. This is most likely because of the highway that runs
on both sides or the river, and over it on bridges too. Because of the highway, there is a high risk

It grabbed my attention that Morrie has reached a thinking style, which differs from the concepts of
materialism that most people in this society believe in. He wondered why some people spend their
lives doing trivial things, such as chasing celebrities and making money only to spend it on things
void of any meaning. Morrie talked about the value of love among people and said, Love each other or
perish . In the end, Morrie began to cry. He did not cry because he was afraid of his inevitable death
but he cried because he did not cry when his mother passed and because his father died before he
could tell him that he loved him. Morrie s ideal day was not a day on the beach in Hawaii, but a day
with his family.
Tuesdays with Morrie is a very interesting book and a very valuable piece of writing. It tells a true
story which we can learn greatly from. Lessons expressed in this book include the importance of love
and relationships, accepting what we are able to do and what we are not, learning to forgive ourselves

To maintain and hopefully enhance the appeal and quality of its area s natural resources, the city
council has decided that it needs to enact protective laws to help ensure its future tourism success.
What specific laws and regulations might these be? Natural Resources are described in the Code of
Federal Regulations (40 C.F.R.). The C.F.R. defines natural resources as encompassing land, fish,
wildlife, plants, air, water, and other such resources belonging to, managed by, held in trust by,
appertaining to, or otherwise controlled by the United States, any State or local government, or any
foreign government. Natural Resource laws protect such areas as national parks and ... Show more

They should also consult environmental experts to give you the pros and cons of establishing new
buildings in the city. Finally they need to hold a community meeting to discuss the topics of new
attractions and zoning, and also to get the perspectives of the community.
Chapter 13
Case Problem: 1
Assume that the federal government has imposed an increase in the gasoline tax of 50 cents per
gallon, effective in three months. How might a motel franchise headquarters organization estimate the
effect on demand that this new tax would have for their member motels, which are located in all parts
of the country? How could a restaurant chain organization operating turnpike food services make such
an estimate? How could a regional airline? Increasing the gasoline tax of 50 cents would definitely
reduce the amount of gasoline brought and sold, and this can have a huge impact for a motel franchise
whether if the demand or supply is perfectly inelastic. For a restaurant, we will be looking at raising
the price of the food and also implying taxes on shipping food cost. As for the regional airline, a slight
increase of the airline ticket will be applied as a sort of taxes (example September 11 fee). The tax
revenue will rise and the increase of the tax gasoline will also increase government tax revenues. Case

What Is Pecking Order Theory
Pecking order theory
Effective financial management and what characters affect their capital structure are important for a
firm to obtain better operational performance. A false decision about the capital structure may lead to
financial distress and even to bankruptcy. There are numerous theories developed to analyze
alternative capital structures. Among all these theories, the static trade off theory which derived by
Modigliani and Miller (1963) was the earliest and most recognized which explains the formulation of
capital structure. Their trade off theory assumed that there are optimal capital structures by trading off
the benefits and cost of debt and equity. The main benefit of debt is tax deductibility of interest and the
costs are bankruptcy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pecking order theory stems from Myers (1984) who in turn was influenced by the earlier
institutional literature including the book by Donaldson (1961). Myers (1984) argues that adverse
selection implies that retained earnings are better than debt and debt is better than equity. This ranking
was motivated with reference to the Myers and Majluf s (1984) adverse selection model. The ordering,
however, stems from a variety of sources including agency conflicts and taxes.
Pecking order theory also referred to as information asymmetry theory was proposed by Ross (1996),
Fama French (2004) suggests that firms prefer to finance new investments, first internally with
retained earnings, then with debt and finally with the issue of new equity. The pecking order theory is
based on two assumptions: Firstly, according to informational asymmetry, managers are better
informed about their own firms prospect than are outside investors. So, when they decide to issue new
equity to finance new projects it is almost invariably taken by outside investors as a signal that the
firm s prospects, as seen by management, are not good and that the said issue is therefore overvalued
and therefore causes the firm s share price to fall (Ross,

The Second Amendment Of The United States Constitution
Gun control is an ineffective means of reducing both violent, and firearm related crime. Limiting the
ability for law abiding citizens to responsibly own arms only reduces their ability to provide to
provide security to themselves and their family. It is not the duty of the federal government to dictate
what a citizen chooses to legally defend themselves with. The second amendment of the United States
Constitution was ratified on the 15 of December, 1791 and was drafted by future president James
Madison. The text of the second amendment reads A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. There has
been much debate in our country regarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Currently in the United states there are over 18,000 firearm laws in place. The first federally mandated
firearm law was the National Firearm Act of 1934. This firearm act, which is still in place today,
required a Federal Firearms License to be obtained by anyone in the business of buying, selling, and
manufacturing firearms. The National Firearms Act also required all NFA firearms to be registered
with the Secretary of the Treasury. NFA firearms at the creation of the NFA included rifles and
shotguns with a barrel length under 18 inches, machine guns, and firearm silencers. To purchase any
of these firearms a $200.00 tax was imposed on every transaction with one of these firearms in an
effort to prevent criminals from purchasing such firearms as they were said to have been popular with
the gangsters of that era. The Bureau of Alcohol tobacco and Firearms defines a machine gun as a
firearm with select fire capabilities. Select fire means that the firearm has both full and semi automatic
fire capabilities. Semi automatic means that for every one pull of the trigger, one bullet will be fired.
Fully automatic means that for as long as the trigger is pulled, the firearms will continue to fire. On
May 19th 1986, the Firearm Owners Protection Act prevented the sale and transfer of machine guns
produced after May 1986. This provision excluded machine guns registered before May 1986 and
machine guns sold to government agencies. With only

Somalia at War Essay
Africa is a rich continent with an abundance of resources, diverse cultures, exotic people and exciting
traditions, yet it seems as though it is perpetually facing armed conflict (Lukunka, 2012). Of the
conflicts Africa is facing currently, Somalia is the center for some of the largest conflicts. The history
of Somalia has been hit with conflict after conflict, not only between rival clans but also with other
countries, most recently between not only regional powers but also the US and Al Qaida. The current
conflict in Somalia differs from the rest due to the number and type of players involved; the large
numbers of foreign players involved in local affairs and the role radical Islam is playing in the
conflict. With most of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
interest. Among those are oil and global trade, maritime security, armed conflicts and violent extremist
that are tied to radical Islamic views like al Qaeda. With protecting the homeland being one of the
U.S. top priorities Al Qaeda and their sympathizers are their number one concern. U.S. interest in
Somalia has shifted back and forth over the decades with changing security and strategic interest.
Currently U.S. interest in Somalia range from piracy, trade, humanitarian issues, broader regional
stability and terrorism, with the principle interest to the U.S since 9/11 being terrorism. With extremist
such as youth militants and Al Shabaab clearly stating their jihadist intentions and abundant
opportunity to cause disorder both in Somalia and abroad, the international community is left
wondering if these insurgent groups have the long term means to implement their religious visions or
whether the government, with or without help, will be able to fight them. If the United States were to
use The Partner Nation Capability, which conducts exercises through Security Forces Assistance
programs like SMEE s (partnered with Law Enforcement or LE), Theater Cooperation Plan or TCP,
and officer exchange programs, that can assist the Somalia government with building a force

Donald Trump Informative Essay
Most people in this country know that Donald Trump has a problem with telling the truth. He is not
honest nor is he trustworthy and he definitely is not shy about making things up, even when they can
easily be proven false. In fact, that is what he has done just last week. According to Trump, he
received two awesome phone calls in the last week. The first one came from the Boy Scouts, telling
him what a great job he did at that speech, and how much everybody loved it, that it was just one of
the greatest things they have ever seen in their life. The second phone call he claims he got was from
the President of Mexico, congratulating him on what a wonderful job he is doing on border security
here in the United States. They just love it down there. Donald Trump s just the greatest guy that ever
lived and everything is just great... Yeah right.
Get this, neither of those phone calls actually ever happened. Donald Trump claimed that he got the
phone call from the leader of the Boy Scouts and from the President of Mexico, to congratulate him
and tell him what a wonderful person he is. Then both groups had to come out and basically said ...

Donald Trump got busted lying not once but, twice about two separate phone calls that never
happened. And the reason he s even lying about it in the first place is because he needs to boost his
own ego, because at the end of the day that is all he has. He wants to think that people are
congratulating him and think he s doing a great job. He wants to think that people like what he s
doing, because that s what his little bubble is all about. But once he steps outside that bubble, he
understands that the Boy Scout leader had to apologize to the public for how disgusting Donald Trump
s speech was. And the President of Mexico could care less about what Donald Trump is doing, he even
goes out his way to assure everybody knows that he s not paying for the stupid wall that Trump still

The City Of Pompeii And Pompeii
In ancient Pompeii, there were many important establishments in the Forum. It was seen as the primal
hub of the town, and due to the busy trading nature, a commercial centre for exchanging foreign goods
was a necessity. However in Herculaneum, being a quiet fishing village, the structure of the Forum
would have been very different to that of Pompeii. Most of the Italian municipalities in their time had
a Forum, a square in their town where the political, commercial, and social lives are all intertwined.
Not only did it act as a social meeting place for the residents, but it also functioned as the primary
religious and economic sector of the city. In Pompeii the Forum was a large area measuring at around
157 by 38 metres, not including all the surrounding buildings (Unfortunately in Herculaneum, the
forum is still uncovered). The Forum was lined with the most important buildings in the city. (See
figure 1) In Pompeii particularly, the forum held the Municipal offices (A), Basilica (B), Temple of
Apollo (C), Forum Olitorium (vegetable market) (C), Latrines (public toilets) (D), Temple of Jupiter
(E), Macellum (marketplace) (F), Temple of the Lares (G), Temple of Vespasian (I), Building of
Eumanchia (J), and a Comitium (voting house) (K). On the western side of the forum, there is a
pedestal, built for outspoken orators. This served as a location where people could express their views
on current situations, usually political. A typical day in the Pompeian forum consisted of

Currently, there are two major of database management systems which are used to deal with data, the
first one called Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) which is the traditional relational
databases, it deals with structured data and have been popular since decades from 1970, while the
second one called Not only Structure Query Language databases (NoSQL), they have been dealing
with semi structured and unstructured data; the NoSQL term was introduced for the first time in 1998
by Carlo Strozzi and Eric Evans reintroduced the term NoSQL in early 2009, and now the NoSQL
types are gaining their popularity with the development of the internet and the social media. NoSQL
are intending to override the cons of RDBMS, such as fixed schemas, JOIN operations and handling
the scalability problems. With the appearance of Big Data,

Globalization Of The United States
The United States is often defined as a capitalist economy, a concept created by a German economist
and social theorist Karl Marx, to define a system in which a minor group of persons, who regulate
large quantities of capital, create the most important economic decisions. Sometimes capitalism is
known as a global system of abuse because at times capitalism is centered on violence and
submission. Capitalism puts enormous pressure on society to make capital. In the United States have
seen a lot of fraud through the years, as well as other high profile crimes in which the fraud formed
part. The most feared crime by companies in developed countries is fraud, even compared to other
crimes such as theft and sabotage. Far from being under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ponzi fooled thousands of investors, he promised huge earnings on international reply coupons, which
could be acquired in one country and used for postage stamps in another country. The income would
be the difference in price between the two countries. He converted a millionaire in a few months, but
the scam took him down. Some parties started to investigate the accounts because there weren t
enough international coupons for his investment strategy to function. Actually, Ponzi was paying his
investors with newer investors money, staying with a huge quantity. In a few months, Ponzi acquired
$20 million, equivalent to $222 million in current dollar values, and six banks crumbled. On the other
hand, Bernie Madoff, a respectable financier, used the famous Ponzi scheme, which attracts investors
in by warranting high revenues. As mention before, Ponzi schemes consisted in using money from
new investors to pay off the guaranteed returns to the older investors. This makes the investment look
valid and profitable, even that was not generating any profit. In Madoff s case, things began to
complicate after clients demanded a total of $7 billion back in returns. Unfortunately for Bernie, he
did not have enough money to give back to his investors. According to CNNMoney, he only made $20
billion, even though he cheated investors out of $65 billion.
According to the author George Robb in his article Before Madoff and Ponzi: 19th Century

Julian Of Norwich And The Church
Little is known about Julian of Norwich. She does, however, state that in May 1373, at the age of 30,
she became gravely ill and on the brink of death. It was during this illness God granted her a series of
16 visions that were rooted in a vivid awareness of Christ s passion. These visions were later recorded
in two texts, which are commonly known as the Short Text and the Long Text or as A Vision and A
Revelation. The former can be dated to 1370 80 and the later composed in 1390 1400. To understand
Julian and her theological account of her visions it is important to recognize the state of the church
during this era as well as its probable influence this had on her life and works. In the 13th century the
church was very much in the midst of a tension between the church defined as ecclesiastical hierarchy
and the church defined as a community of believers. That is to say that there was a growing gap
between the church s forms and formulas and the beliefs of its members. In broad terms, Christianity
tended to become more and more clerical whereas lay society tended to become more religious which
generated an increase in the number of spiritual initiatives. Also during this time there was great
anxiety amongst lay people over issues of sin, death, and a desire for security of the soul. This was
perhaps the most common and burdensome anxiety of the Middle Ages. The doctrine of purgatory,
however effective it may have been in providing consolation and hope it also caused great

Time available to finish planks for Norm Sullivan: 4.5 hours per week x 52 weeks = 234 hours (14040
minutes)
In that time he can create (with the table saw): 14040 minutes available /15 minutes required per board
= 936 planks
In that time he can create (with the router): 14040 minutes available / 14 minutes required per board =
1002 planks.
Neither of these options is going to be sufficient to meet his production need of 1200 planks for the
upcoming year.
What if he were to hire more workers? This would reduce the production time per plank and make it
likely that he would be able to reduce the production time per board. For each worker he would be
looking at $5200 per year.
His projected sales for the year:
1200 planks
10 feet each @ $6.00 per foot = $60 per plank Therefore, 1200 x 60 = $72000 His projected profit
margin = 50%
Therefore 50/100* 72000=
$36000 in profit for the year.

What goals or objectives must be achieved by any potential solution to the problem? (eg. Must
maximize market share)
Must improve productivity
Must increase overall delivery time
Must have a good return on investment

Can t take too long to implement
Can t cost more than 80,000 per year

Background and Origin on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
SARS( Severe acute respiratory syndrome) Background/Intro/Origins SARS, also known as severe
acute respiratory syndrome was first found in Foshan, Guangdong in November of 2002. SARS is a
very new and rare disease. SARS was officially recognized as a threat by the World Health
Organization in March of 2003. This outbreak was the only one ever recorded of its type, up until the
recent Middle East Respiratory Syndrome. Scientists recognized SARS as a variation of the
coronavirus. In humans, the typical coronavirus is one of the many that cause the common cold. In
livestock, the virus is found to create serious and fatal diseases. Scientists believe that this variation of
the coronavirus originated from civets and the Horseshoe bat. Corona viruses are known for their
ability to mutate in order to spread among humans. Transmissions SARS is transmitted through the
droplets of vapour from coughing and sneezing. Contact with these droplets and the objects the
infected touched would also transmit SARS. Some scientists theorize that SARS is an airborne spread
virus. Epidemiological analysis also indicated that SARS was spreaded along the routes of
international air travel. Symptoms Fever Dry cough Shortness of breath Chills Body aches and pains
Nasal congestion Diarrhea Malaise (a general feeling of discomfort) Muscular stiffness Loss of

  • 2. Informative Speech About Oktoberfest Intro sind Sie überhaupt zu oktoberfest gewesen? Or in English we say, have you ever been to Oktoberfest? Oktoberfest is held in Munich, Bavarian, Germany every year from September 16th to October 3rd, so it runs for 16 days. But will run for 17 18 days if the 16 days fall before October 3rd. I would like to inform you about the wonderful history, clothing, food, drinks, and traditions behind this historic festival. History Originally, Oktoberfest was a wedding celebration that was done in 1810. It was to celebrate the marriage between Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony hildburghausen. Many days of feasting, drinking, and horse races were put together in order to celebrate the marriage between them. The festivities were held on the fields in front of the gates. These fields are were called Theresienwiese or Theresas Meadow to honor the Crown Princess. Today, the fields are called Wisen by the Munich locals. The citizens of Munich enjoyed this event so much that they made it a tradition, which became Octoberfest. Today, the festival is more popular than ever with 5.2 million people attending during Octoberfest 2016. Clothing The two types of clothing that are mainly worn at Oktoberfest are the Lederhosen and Dirndl. The Lederhosen is worn by men and the Dirndl is worn by women. The Lederhosen emerged from Alpine regions of Germany and Austria during the 18th century. Even though there were leather pants during this time, southern Germany created the ... • 3. Marjane Satrapi s Perspective Of Persepolis Perspective of Persepolis Marjane Satrapi s perspective in Persepolis is unique because of her gender, social status, and the danger around her. She is a young girl from a royal family when the Islamic Revolution begins in Iran. She experiences many traumatic events in her childhood but is shielded by a lot by her parents. Because of these things, her perspective is slightly altered and not entirely accurate. Being a female in Iran before the Islamic Revolution was not that different than being a female in America, but after the Islamic Revolution, women were expected to wear hijabs, obey their husbands, and conform to traditional gender stereotypes. These traditional gender stereotypes are shown in the photo to the left. Marjane, being the stubborn girl she is, sees this double standard and does everything she can to rebel against it, which gets her into some trouble. For example, she once had a run in with the Guardians of the Revolution , who yelled at her for having symbols of decadence , like sneakers and Michael Jackson pins, and for showing her hair below her headscarf (Satrapi 133). If she was not a girl, this would not have happened to her. This shows that her perspective on the Revolution was different because of her gender. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her family was once the ruling family of Iran, but they were overthrown in 1953. They still, however, retained very high social status, as shown n the image. Her father had a car and their family had a maid. This maid was Marjane s first experience with injustice when she was six years old. She didn t understand why the maid couldn t see the neighboring boy just because she was a maid. She learned at a very young age that people were treated unfairly and wanted to stop it by becoming a prophet. If she had not been in such a rare social class, she would not have seen this side of Iran so clearly, which is what makes her perspective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Romantic Love In The Hunger Games, By Suzanne Collins North American media is known in many forms to include a romantic subplot between the main protagonist and a major side character, underneath the main morals and plot the story conveys. These romances in media, particularly films and novels, are uncreative and dissatisfying. They distract from major events within the narrative and divert the reader s attention away from the author s message and morals they are trying to impart. Also, the undermining of female characters is a major issue faced in the writing of these romances into stories. Many narratives, though, may originally have good intentions with the insertion of a relationship, but society s glamorisation of romantic love holds them on a pedestal until they ve turned stale, so in turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The romance in a fiction becomes the main question in social outlets and frequent questions like Team Peeta or Team Gale from The Hunger Games fans arise. As a society we hypersexualise and romanticise our media, so a story like The Hunger Games theme is ironically missed. This trilogy, written by Suzanne Collins, revolves around Katniss and her society s yearly ritual to force children to kill each other in a so called entertaining way, with media coverage. Katniss too, falls in love with a boy, and they manage to survive a reaping together. The characters are glamorised by the media within the book, ignoring the deaths of children, as Suzanne Collins tries to hint to real society what the media does. Immediately, the story took off and the love triangle popularised within the book became real, and media outlets ask fans the same question, ignoring the ideologies the author provided. The relationship within this narrative stood for an important point within the plot of the story, negating previous arguments and not in itself disappointing, yet media distorts it, turning it into a dissatisfying love triangle. The major fault in media s coverage of these relationships is it falls in line with both aforementioned faults of romance in novels, how it clouds the author s morals and intentions of writing, and with this engrossment in a single point, the media doesn t only demean the female characters, but any character, as the only involvement of characters in discussion is who they are in a relationship ... • 5. Beloved Jungle Imagery In Toni Morrison s Beloved, Stamp Paid considers the impact of slavery on all of those involved. He uses references to an untamed jungle in order to convey the concept spreading corruption. Morrison utilizes threatening diction through jungle imagery in order to establish a theme of corruption caused through slavery. Morrison uses jungle imagery to represent the spreading corruption from slavery. When addressing the jungle that white people think lives within their slaves, Stamp Paid describes it as Swift unnavigable waters, winging screaming baboons, sleeping snakes, red gums read for their sweet white blood . Here, Morrison uses the wild jungle imagery to display the unkempt and untamable demeanor of the corruption that is associated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Stamp Paid discusses the effects of the jungle/slavery on white people he states, Touched them every one . Here, a syntax is utilized that eliminates the subject of the sentence that is performing the action of touching . The elimination of the subject within this syntax acts to convey the jungle/slavery as threatening due to its vagueness, as it is not even given a title within the sentence. The perceived threat of the unnamed subject in conjunction with the intrusive diction of the verb that it is enacting, touching , acts to emphasize the invasive nature of the threat of the jungle/slavery on white people. Stamp Paid utilizes the same syntax when further discussing its impact on white people: Changed and altered them . The syntax here eliminates the subject as well, providing the same sense of a threat due to the vague address of it. This syntax with the further threatening diction of changed and altered being performed by the unnamed subject causes it to be further seem as a threat. The unnamed subject is in reference to slavery, thus, Morrison utilizes syntax in this manner in order to further emphasize the theme of corruption through slavery, as it expresses that slavery is invasive for the white people and, in turn, causes them to become ... To demonstrate how the advert was effective with the actions of the boy and the pacing will be introduced as well as the set up of the scenes. These are here to make an effective advertisement to persuade the audience to react to irresponsible drinking. Body 1 The actions in Binge Boy are distinguished because they emphasise that intoxication in adolescence can lead to injuries, messiness and destruction. When the boy poor s the food on himself, his actions have proven that intoxication can cause messiness. Similarly the boy s actions have been portrayed to exaggerate the poor actions alcohol can lead to. This reaching out to other adolescence and parents showing them how the adolescence could turn out. Whereas this wouldn t affect adults because they have already had their experience with irresponsible drinking. Body 2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the boy kicks the radio, he is surrounded by props that create a dull household whilst the boy s body language suggests he has become violent. The bleakness of the lighting is symbolic of the negative use of alcohol, helping fit the broody mood. The boy s costuming compliments the consequences of drinking by showing that intoxication can result in violence and destruction of property, therefore promoting a social message to adolescence to drink responsibly. • 7. The Normal Distribution Is A Continuous, Unimodal And... The normal distribution is a continuous, unimodal and symmetric distribution. For a typical normal distribution, a mesokurtic (which means to have a moderate peak and tails for a graph), definition is one that has a mean of 0 and a standard deviation of 1. While this is the case, there might be other normal distributions with means that are not 0 and a standard deviation that is not 1, for these cases, we use their means and standard deviation. For example, if a normal distribution had a mean of 2 and a standard deviation of 3, then in order to clarify that it is indeed a normal distribution, we write N( 2,3). Among the normal distributions, we have a standard normal, exponential, uniform and beta. These are varieties of distributions we can get within a normal distribution based on factors like number of cases for example and where the cases were drawn from. At times when it gets complicated to distinguish between the standard deviation of a variable and that of a sampling distribution, there is a solution. The standard deviation for a sampling distribution is called a standard error and this literally means that if a sampling distribution is normal, then 68% of its samples will lie within one standard error of the mean and 98% within 1.98 standard error of the mean. The normal distribution is useful not just due a random variable following a normal distribution, but also because the Central Limit Theorem, which is a theorem that shows the sampling distribution of the mean ... There are three famous sixteenth century pictures. Showing that Indians were civilized people. Life among the Eastern Woodland economy looks in the first painting very civilized. The Eastern Woodlands economy seems stable for the men making canoes. Their religion looks to be a dance ritual for their gods. As my family and I started driving up the mountain the sun makes me squint like lemon juice squirted me in the eyes. Heading up the mountain is frightening as the car goes around and around right on the edge of the cliff. The drive feels like a slow amusement park ride. First, it s a beautiful pine tree forest lookout. It rows of pines trees rising up the mountain. Once we reached out of the forest, there s a bunch of cliffs and coming up close to the edge which is a little frightening, but it s a spectacular view, so it s worth it. Only 31.6% survived the disaster. In order to understand what factors lead to the highest chances of survival, this project uses a Titanic passenger database and decision trees in order to classify survivors into two groups, survived and perished. Then using this information, rank the most important factors regarding the likelihood of survival. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, the database also provides the class that the passenger was in, their ticket number, their cabin number, ticket price, and where they embarked. From this information, we hope to understand what factors played and role in survival and which were the most important. The rest of this paper proceeds as follows: In section 2, this paper discusses the creation of a decision tree. Section 3 describes to experimentation on the Titanic dataset. Section 4 gives the results of the comparison and the conclusions from the project. 2 Creating a Decision Tree We decided that the best to answer these questions would be to create a decision tree in order to classify which passengers into two categories survived and perished. By creating a decision tree that was able to classify most of the passengers statuses correctly, we know which of the factors were the most important due to the fact that the most important factors would be located at the top of the tree. The factors located on lower levels of the tree are less important, due to the fact that they are the deciding factor for survival for a smaller group of people. To create a decision tree, we begin by cleaning the data that we receive from the database. First, we remove the names of the passengers, due to the fact that we can more easily refer to them by their passenger ids. We also remove the information connected to cabin number, due ... Identification and Evaluation of Sources Stalin s Curse This historical investigation assesses the following question: To what extent did Joseph Stalin cause tension between the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics during the World War II era? To grasp the true cause of the Cold War, research must include insight into separate ideals believed by each; the will of communism spread vs the will of capitalism to contain it; the anxiety of nuclear war; and the presidency of Harry S. Truman. The main sources will include Stalin s Curse, written by Robert Gellately, and A History of Twentieth Century Russia, authored by Robert Service. This source is valuable because it brings to light the intentions of Stalinist Russia and the conflict the USSR brought to the Eastern and Western hemispheres. This source is valuable as it gives an objective, expansive overview of the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. Its contents include details of Stalin s actions and quotations of pained Russians. • 12. Sir Thomas Malory s Excalibur When you think of the name Sir Thomas Malory you might think of a brave knight who fights in the great battles. Believe it or not but this guy spent most of his life in jail. Historians claimed that this guy committed crimes like stealing cattle and other things. Malory loved to hunt and compete. There was a very good chance that he wrote a collection of books while he was in jail because he was knight and probably let him have access to books. In the collections of books that he wrote there was one called From Morte D Arthur and in this story and a movie called Excalibur there are 3 messages of chivalry. First of I will tell you what chivalry is. Chivalry is seen today but started out back in king Arthur s day. It is the code of the knights. Things like being loyal, honest, and courage. For example when a lady walks in you stand up and if there is no seat then you give up your own seat for the lady. Also you always respect your elders so if there is no seat available then like a lady, you would give up your seat. In King Arthur s time if you were a knight you had to obey they code of the knight which was the code of chivalry. The code made it so if you were a knight then you were not able to have a wife but you were able to have a girl to fight for. It was a life time deal with the king to keep your code of chivalry and devote your life to the good cause of the king and the Kingdome. • 15. What Is The Role Of Monastic Issues In Preserving Roman... This historical study will examine the problems of monastic issues in preservation of roman civilization and the problem of Christian conversions for pagan societies in Europe during the early Medieval period of Europe. The purpose of European monasteries was to act in accordance with the Church of Rome s policy to preserve Roman traditions in government and Christian practices in primarily pagan tribal communities. During this time, the primary writings of St. Benedict define the purpose of the monastery to spread Christianity as a source of religious power throughout Europe. More so, the role of monastic culture in Europe society defines the preservation of roman administration and culture throughout areas considered to be barbaric , such as the German tribal kingdom along the Rhine that St. Columban describes in the Boat Song. In addition to preserving Christian society in the Roman Catholic model, the writings of St. Columba define the monastic rules of the early medieval monastery as a vehicle to promote Roman Catholic cultural values as a replacement for the polder pagan tribal models found throughout Europe. In essence, the successful rise of Roman Catholic monasteries in the early medieval period define the problems of preserving Roman civilization and by converting pagans that monks had to endure within European pagan culture. Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown is an excellent example of the use of allegories and symbolism as a form of satire on Puritan faith. According to Frank Preston Stearns, author of The Life and Genius of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hawthorne may have intended this story as an exposure of the inconsistency, and consequent hypocrisy, of Puritanism (Stearns 181). Throughout the story of Young Goodman Brown, Hawthorne tries to infuse as many symbols and allegories as he can to enhance the overall meaning of his story. He uses the village, Goodman Brown, Faith, the man in the forest, and the time spent in the forest as either a symbol or an allegory to get his point across that Puritans are not always what they seem to be. One of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the audience is aware of these two pieces of information they can infer that the allegory Hawthorne is writing about is how he sees faith transitioning from a young faith to an adult faith of a Puritan. Brown in the beginning of the story is a young Puritan with young faith, but by the end of the story he has changed into an adult and does not know if he has faith anymore. Although Brown s faith is questionable the books states that he continues to pray and go to church (Hawthorne 337), which would be considered hypocritical to some. If Brown s name is exchanged with Hawthorne s the readers can see why he saw the Puritans hypocritical and why he left his faith. Notably Faith, the protagonist s wife, plays a huge role as an allegory and a symbol throughout Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown. In this story Faith s name plays as an allegory. At first this could easily be missed because it sounds like a common name for a woman, but once the readers get further into the story they realize that her name plays an enormous role in the story s plot. Faith s name symbolizes Brown s faith in God. It was a large scale event almost unparalleled to that of any other in terms of people killed and atrocities committed. Violence against Jews and their properties were both commonplace and promoted, and anti Semitism among Nazis and their associates ran rampant. By unlawfully persecuting a particular race through state sponsored government support, racism flourished and led the way to a rise of an apocalyptic genocide. With authorization from the Nazi party allocated to its soldiers, troops confiscated Jewish property, pillaged numerous synagogues and stores, and murdered Jews in a short period of time. Reliable assistance to the suffering Jews was hard to find because of the Nazis brainwashing of the nation through abundant propaganda. This kind of widespread discrimination inhibited the Jewish people s ability to speak out against this obvious prejudice. The numbers found, would tell us how polluted the stream was and how much nutrients were in the water. Each chemical has a scale for telling what a good level is and what a bad level is. If an excess amount of nutrients was found in the water, algae could be formed. When algae is formed it blocks sunlight from shining into the water, which creates dead zones. This is called eutrophication. A dead zone is an area where there is no life. This can cause major problems like population issues and more. If the algae continues to grow in the river, the whole body of water can die out, and people as well as other organisms are very dependent on the Susquehanna. A false decision about the capital structure may lead to financial distress and even to bankruptcy. There are numerous theories developed to analyze alternative capital structures. Among all these theories, the static trade off theory which derived by Modigliani and Miller (1963) was the earliest and most recognized which explains the formulation of capital structure. The pecking order theory stems from Myers (1984) who in turn was influenced by the earlier institutional literature including the book by Donaldson (1961). This ranking was motivated with reference to the Myers and Majluf s (1984) adverse selection model. The ordering, however, stems from a variety of sources including agency conflicts and taxes. Pecking order theory also referred to as information asymmetry theory was proposed by Ross (1996), Fama French (2004) suggests that firms prefer to finance new investments, first internally with retained earnings, then with debt and finally with the issue of new equity. The pecking order theory is based on two assumptions: Firstly, according to informational asymmetry, managers are better informed about their own firms prospect than are outside investors. So, when they decide to issue new equity to finance new projects it is almost invariably taken by outside investors as a signal that the firm s prospects, as seen by management, are not good and that the said issue is therefore overvalued and therefore causes the firm s share price to fall (Ross, ... It was during this illness God granted her a series of 16 visions that were rooted in a vivid awareness of Christ s passion. These visions were later recorded in two texts, which are commonly known as the Short Text and the Long Text or as A Vision and A Revelation. The former can be dated to 1370 80 and the later composed in 1390 1400. To understand Julian and her theological account of her visions it is important to recognize the state of the church during this era as well as its probable influence this had on her life and works. In the 13th century the church was very much in the midst of a tension between the church defined as ecclesiastical hierarchy and the church defined as a community of believers. That is to say that there was a growing gap between the church s forms and formulas and the beliefs of its members. In broad terms, Christianity tended to become more and more clerical whereas lay society tended to become more religious which generated an increase in the number of spiritual initiatives. Also during this time there was great anxiety amongst lay people over issues of sin, death, and a desire for security of the soul. This was perhaps the most common and burdensome anxiety of the Middle Ages. The doctrine of purgatory, however effective it may have been in providing consolation and hope it also caused great ...
