Essay On Sonnet 18
1. Essay On Sonnet 18
Writing an essay on Sonnet 18 can be a challenging yet rewarding task. The difficulty lies not
only in dissecting and analyzing the intricate language and poetic devices employed by William
Shakespeare but also in capturing the essence of the sonnet's timeless beauty. Sonnet 18, often
referred to as "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day," is a masterpiece that requires a deep
understanding of the poet's intentions, the historical context, and the nuances of Elizabethan
poetry.
To begin with, unraveling the layers of meaning within the sonnet demands a keen eye for
literary devices such as metaphors, similes, and personification. Delving into the subtle nuances
of Shakespearean language adds an extra layer of complexity, as the Bard often employs words
and phrases that may have evolved in meaning over the centuries.
Moreover, crafting an essay on Sonnet 18 requires the ability to contextualize the work within
the broader scope of Shakespeare's body of work. Understanding the themes that permeate his
sonnets and the cultural backdrop against which they were written is essential for providing a
comprehensive analysis.
The challenge intensifies when attempting to express one's interpretation coherently and
convincingly. Translating personal insights into articulate arguments and ensuring the essay flows
seamlessly requires a delicate balance of creativity and analytical rigor. It's not merely a matter of
summarizing the sonnet but delving into its subtleties and extracting meaning that may not be
immediately apparent.
Despite the difficulties, the satisfaction of successfully navigating through the complexities of
Sonnet 18 is immensely gratifying. Crafting an essay that not only decodes the poet's intentions
but also resonates with the reader requires a mastery of both language and literary analysis.
In conclusion, the journey of writing an essay on Sonnet 18 is a challenging but enriching
experience. It demands a deep appreciation for the beauty of Shakespeare's language and the
ability to articulate profound insights. It is an endeavor that not only hones one's literary skills
but also fosters a deeper understanding of the timeless power of poetry.

2. The Theme Of Death And Change In A Rose For Emily By...
William Faulkner once said, Given a choice between grief and nothing, I d choose
grief (Brainyquote). He further explains why he d do this in A Rose for Emily ;
although the story is not about him, he details the loneliness and selfishness of a
poor woman, Miss Emily. Miss Emily is unable to grip the idea of death and
suffers great deals of denial. After the death of her father, the townspeople expected
her to be in a state of grief but alas she is not. Instead she proceeds to say that her
father is very well with her, alive. William Faulkners idea of grieving is clear in this
story because he shows his audience that it is better to accept death than to ignore it
through the accounts of Miss Emily s journey. William Faulkner s story takes place
in the South, during a time period of racial discrimination and major political
change. By using reader response criticism, a reader can analyze A Rose for Emily
through the aspects of the secret held within the story, racefound through
anthropology, and gender found through anthropology.
To begin with, one can analyze A Rose for Emily by examining the underlying
hidden message found within the story. The hidden message that William
Faulkner tried to convey in his story was the themes of death and change. Death
looms through the story from the beginning right on through to the end as the
narrator begins describing the beginning of Miss Emily s funeral. Miss Emily
herself chooses not to accept the fate of death when her extremely controlling
father passes away. Miss Emily met them at the door, dressed` as usual and with
no trace of grief on her face. She told them that her father was not dead (Faulkner).
This quote from A Rose for Emily clearly shows how Miss Emily tried to defy
death by holding on to her father s corpse and treating it as if he were still living
and how fearful she was of change. She later killed Homer to ensure that he would
never leave her. Miss Emily continually tried to prevent any sort of change through
death or other means from occurring in her town. She was so frightened of change
that she wouldn t allow the city to put numbers on her house for mail. Miss Emily
alone refused to let them fasten the metal numbers above her door and
3. Analyzing Owens s Autobiography
Throughout the short autobiography Owens mentions a few times how he
believes he is not a real Indian. Owens says on page 265, Born in prison because
my father ran away from home when he was fifteen and lied to join the army
during World War II... He was born in the military prison hospital which is where
his mother was brought. Owens believes he is not a real Indian because he was not
enrolled and did not grow up on an Indian reservation. Owens had a different view
of what being Indian meant because of the different times he grew up in. Owens
says on page 269, Listening to my mother s stories about Oklahoma, about brutally
hard lives and dreams that cut across the fabric of every experience, I thought that
was Indian. The way his mother
4. The Role Of Religion In The United States
The United States of America was founded on the idea of religious freedom. Pilgrims
came to America to practice their religion freely. In the Bill of Rights, Americans
have the right to freedom of religion. Religion is the foundation in the United States
of America, so it should be taught in schools.
To begin with, religion is an important factor in the United States government. Many
historians agree saying, there is no way to divorce American government and history
from the religious beliefs of those who created our government and lived that history,
(Beckett 13). Religion is a part of American government; in order to teach
government, the teacher should be allowed to teach the religion involved.
Additionally, presidents place their left

can launch the software and understand how to use it almost immediately. Some of
the disadvantages of the greenway electronic health record is that it do not support
internet explorer 9. Also another disadvantage is that biometrics and proximity cards

6. Robin Hood Code Of Chivalry
The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) tells a tale of thieves that behave more
honorable than the nobles of their time. The bandits known as the Merry Men lead
by a notorious thief and Errol named Robin Hood (Errol Flynn). He leads the Merry
Men in treacherous deeds to steal from those who have the most in the land and give
everything they take to lazy, scumbags, treacherous, poor people. They protect the
helpless women and children from the noble knights and kings. This seems very
confusing to most because the Merry Menare supposed to be the enemy of the
righteous people. In this essay we are going to discuss the key notes of the Code of
Chivalry to express why Robin Hoodand his Merry Men are actually noble even
though they are robbing and breaking the code.... Show more content on

Robin is in England at a point where the noble are oppressing the poor with taxes
and harsh punishments. Prince John (Claude Rains) has forcefully taken over the
crowd and plans to tax the poor to get more money for his brother s release from
capture. Robin hood and the gang are just trying to level the score and this is
where are first code of chivalry comes into play. Robin Hood shows us he is a
defender of women and children by taking the food from Much (Herbert Mundin)
that he catches and gives it to the hungry people in the town even though it is illegal
to hunt the king s meat. Then he also protects the women by not harming Maid
Marian (Olivia de Havilland) when they capture the legion of Prince John s men.
These examples give the audience an understanding that the bandits are actually the
good guys because villains are savages and mean to the helpless but as we can see,
they are the heroes in this dark
7. The Civil Of Chinese Immigrants On The Transcontinental...
Migrating to America in search of new opportunities, sadly, the Chinese were referred
to as Chinks and coolies. Throughout history, Americans have been in debt to
immigrant groups, like the Chinese, who were the only ones willing to do the most
dangerous and underpaid work. Yet, Americans have been the most hostile towards
the Chinese the only racial group ever to face an Exclusion Act. During the 19th
century, 80,000 Chinese immigrants arrived in the United States during the Gold
Rush, but they found no gold only nativists who did not want them there. So, instead
of mining, many Chinese settled for odd jobs and labored on the Transcontinental
Railroad, a previously unparalleled project to connect the American West Coast with

However, Charles Crocker, one of the Big Four investors of the railroad, became
so desperate for labor that he convinced Strobridge to try and hire the Chinese:
They built the Great Wall. They can do it (Elish). Finally, in 1863, the Chinese,
who were believed to be inferior to whites, were given the opportunity to work on
the Transcontinental Railroad. In the end, hiring the Chinese was a very wise
decision because they were the cheapest and they worked the hardest. Despite
many Chinese being under five feet and only weighing 120 pounds, the Chinese
impressed Crocker: They couldn t dig as much dirt with a single swing, but they
worked methodically without talking or taking breaks...by the end of day one, [the
Chinese] had covered as much distance as the all white groups and the job was
done more carefully (Elish). Charles Crocker was recorded as saying that,
Wherever we put [the Chinese], we found them good, as well as, ...they worked
themselves into our favor to such an extent that if we found we were in a hurry for
a job of work, it was better to put Chinese on at once (American Experience: TV s
Most Watched History Series). In other words, the Chinese proved themselves to be
the most punctual and willing and diligent group. In American History: The
Transcontinental Railroad, it is explained that the Chinese had the best habits. They
always drank hot tea, which killed off
8. Benefits Of Cranberry Juice
Cranberries are symbols of vacations, but more than a year you can benefit from
your delicious well being. They are quite piquant and most people need to be tasty.
Their juice is often mixed with sweets or mixed with other juice to cut tart flavor.
Being a dip plant, Cranberry Bush produces high concentrated fruit filled with
nutrition. Since very little seed can take root, nature has ensured that each berry is
packed with as many nutrients as possible.
Why is Cranberry juice good for you?

Just you know, cranberry juice is acidic. Despite the whole alkaline / acidic myth,
we recommend using cranberry juice as part of a healthy diet. The reason for this is
that our urine should be acidic. This means that our kidneys are working properly and
filter toxins.
Acidic nature also helps to reduce bacteria in the urethra, there is almost no chance
of being infected in a healthy, acidic urine. It only happens when processed foods,
fake alkaline water, and bad dosage are bombarded on our bodies, which are unable
to keep our urine away from the bacteria.
Types of Cranberry Juice
Unfortunately, the majority of cranberry juice goes into making mixes and cocktails.
The juice you buy in grocery stores is not pure, is filled with sugars and chemicals,
and is often so thin that no health benefits have been left to her. In addition, the
pasteurization process destroys healthy antioxidants. The juice on the store shelves is
slightly more than the sugar flavored with cranberry
9. Being Born And Raised By The Monumental Architecture...
As I arrived to TALA, I was instantly impressed by the monumental architecture
before me. The symmetry of the building was elegant and well complimented by
its weathered look. It is difficult to imagined that this very building had once
housed the mentally ill. I have never seen such a facility before and thus expected
something less remarkable. As I stood admiring the building, I noticed the
multitude of windows it contained. Upon further examination, I saw bars
surrounding them and suddenly realized that the illusion of paradise was in reality
a prison for those who dwelled here. I was surprised to learn how many people
were actually housed in this building. I was equally shocked to discovered what
passed as mentally insane during the 19th century. The criteria used to determine
mental problems were nonexistent and arbitrary. I was extremely concerned when
the tour guide mentioned kids being born and raised in TALA. It was also
distressing to learn that people who didn t quality as having mental problems were
also placed into such a facility. I was further surprised to learn that the community
had openly embraced TALA as part of their home to the extent that a high school
prom was held inside the building. This helped me to recognize that TALA was
more than just an insane asylum, it was truly home to those living inside and outside
of the building. As I progressed through the tour, I discovered that I was unaware of
the many practices of insane asylums, especially the
10. Characteristics And Applications Of Types Of Specialty...
1. Introduction
With the continuous improvement of modern architectural functions, higher
requirements of concrete have been put forward. Under the circumstance of high
technology, concrete technology is developed towards high strength, high workability
and high durability. Since the 1990s, along with a variety of new cementitious
materials, mineral admixtures, superplasticizer and the new development and
application of other additives, the production of concrete with good workability,
excellent mechanical properties and also high durability can become a reality
(Laskar, 2011). This new type of concrete is called high performance concrete (HPC).
Compared to the conventional concrete, HPC has high strength, high resistance and
high durability. Therefore, high performance concrete is the inevitable result of the
development of modern concrete technology.
The main purpose of this study is to indicate the performance characteristics and
applications of two typical types of specialty concretes: watertight concrete (WC)
and self compacting concrete (SCC). Each of the case study will discuss, first, the
mix design procedures and the performance characteristics compared to ordinary
concrete; second, the application of each specialty concrete; last, the example of the
utilisation of waste materials in each specialty concrete.
2. Watertight concrete (WC)
Watertight concrete is different from the ordinary one and is developed from the
conventional one. Specifically, normal concrete

The Saudi government has used criminal charges of apostasy and blasphemy to
suppress discussion and debate and silence dissidents. Promoters of political and
human rights reforms, and those seeking to debate the role of religion to the state, its
laws, and society, typically have been the targets of such charges.
In June 2012, Raif Badawi, the founder and editor of the Free Saudi Liberals website,
which encourages religious and political debate, Badawi was arrested in Jeddah and
charged with apostasy, insulting Islam through electronic channels, and parental
disobedience. In January 2013, a Saudi court elected not to pursue the apostasy
charge, which carries the death penalty

12. Installing A Realistic Wireless Sensor Network Setting
Abstract Hierarchical routing is a promising approach for point to point routing with
very small routing state. While there are many theoretical analyses and high level
simulations demonstrating its benefits, there has been little work to evaluate it in a
realistic wireless sensor network setting. Based on numerous proposed hierarchical
routing infrastructures, we surveyed some hierarchical clustering algorithms and
briefly discussed them. Main purpose of this paper is to present some recent
hierarchical protocols and point out silent features of them. These routing protocols
very much benefit in prolonging network lifetime and save energy of sensornodes.

Due to limited and non rechargeable energy provision, the energy resource of
sensor networks should be managed wisely to extend the lifetime of sensors.
Sensor networks have recently emerged as a platform for several important
surveillance and control applications .Each sensor has an onboard radio that can be
used to send the collected data to interested parties. One of the advantages of
wireless sensors networks (WSNs) is their ability to operate unattended in harsh
environments in which contemporary human in the loop monitoring schemes are
risky, inefficient and sometimes infeasible. Therefore, sensors are expected to be
deployed randomly in the area of interest by a relatively uncontrolled means, e.g.
dropped by a helicopter, and to collectively form a network in an ad hoc manner. In
order to achieve high energy efficiency and increase the network scalability, sensor
nodes can be organized into clusters. Data collected from sensors are sent to the
cluster head first, and then forwarded to the base station. Network lifetime can be
defined as the time elapsed until the first node (or the last node) in the network
depletes its energy (dies). A number of protocols have been proposed to reduce
useful energy consumption. These protocols can be classified into three classes.
Protocols in the first class control the transmission power level at each node to
increase network capacity while

18. Louise Mallard Symbolism
The earliest waves of feminism came to rise in the late 1800 s. The oppression of
women and limited freedom is illustrated in Kate Chopin s, The Story of an Hour.
In this story, a woman loses her husband and grieves at first thought. Later however,
she realizes the death of her husband may actually be a blessing. Chopin is able to
illustrate her message through the emotions of Louise Mallard and through the
language of the story. Chopin reveals the forbidden joy of independence through
Mrs. Mallard s realization of the endless possibilities of her newfound independence
that enlivens and excites her. It is obvious that as reading through the story, Chopin
uses a lot of symbolism to describe Louise s feelings and the thoughts in her mind.

Emily Toth, writer of Chopin thinks back through her mother, points out that
Although Louise s death is an occasion for deep irony directed at patriarchal
blindness about women s thoughts, Louise dies in the world of her family where
she has always sacrificed for others. This patriarchal blindness is quite true if you
pay attention to the people around Louise. As Wang also writes, Quite obviously,
Brently Mallard, his friend Richards, and the doctors have never had the slightest
clue about Louise s self assertion, and they perhaps will never figure out what has
really happened in Louise s deep mind. Louise s death was ironic to the readers
because everyone who reads the story knows the deeper reason of her death,
whereas the people around her assumed it was the joy that kills, Brently Mallard s
false death. Josephine, Louise s sister also falls into the conformity of the patriarchal
society . Her thinking and misjudgment of Louise when she was in her room
suggested that her mind is not that much different from the men around them. Thus,
she is also considered a part of the blindness that fails to see the potential
independence for women like Louise. In the story, the narrator describes Louise as
young, with a fair, calm, face, whose lines bespoke repression and even a certain
strength. (Chopin 537) This statement

Acoustic Theory and Synthesis
Frequency:
Frequency means the number of cycles per second and depending on the amount of
cycles per second determines how high or low pitched the sound is and the time
that it takes to complete one cycle is called the period. Frequency is measured in
Hertz (Hz). And An average human is able to hear sounds between 20Hz and
20,000Hz.
As the cycles per second increases, the smaller the wavelengths become, therefore
there is a higher frequency which will cause the pitch of the sound to increase or get
higher.
If there is frequency of say 20KHz then it is going to be a much higher pitch than a
20Hz because there is a lot more cycles per second.

22. Examples Of Social Issues In The Help
The Help is a 2011 movie based on the book that was published in 2009. The entire
movie is set in the early 1960s during the civil rights era. This movie looks into the
lives of African American maids during this time period, seeing what they
experienced and endured on a day to day basis. Due to the movie being set in the
1960s , The Help bares multiple social problems that can be found today. The most
profound social problem depicted throughout the movie is racism. Female inequality
is also a social problem that presents itself in the movie. Lastly, education was
another social problem that I found very important, though the people of this time
period didn t see it as an issue. All of these social problems play a part in successfully

different expectations for girls. Girls should go on to college, start a career, then
once they ve established themself get married and start a family. But honestly
most girls get pregnant early and don t go on to college or get married until later in
life. In the movie there is no escaping this constant ridicule for Skeeter. She was
constantly set up on dates and put down regarding her appearance. People still
have such high expectations for women now, just as much as they did then.
However, Skeeter s way of escaping was her book. By writing this book she was able
to put her personal problems aside, and focus on something she s passionate about..

A
Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray and Neil Jordan s Interview with a
Vampire are gothic narrations that incorporate the themes of sensuality and
hedonism. Although the texts do not contain any explicit statements of
homoeroticism, the suggestive narration, allusions and imagery, camera angles
and music highlight the homoerotic feelings between men. While Wilde does not
mention any homosexual acts explicitly, the element of homoeroticism is
described within the competition for Dorian s attention. Dorian is described
through allusions to be likened to Adonis; a creature who looks as if he were
made of ivory and rose leaves. (Lord Henry Wotten) Adonis, a representation of
youthful idealism is a symbolic gesture of Dorian s youthful sensuality. Lord
Henry and Basil Hallward praise Dorian s youthful demeanour, Basil commenting
as long as I live, the personality of Dorian Gray will dominate me. (Basil Hallward)
Whilst Basil is rejected, Dorian wishes to emulate Lord Henry, which in turn, rouses
Lord Henry from his characteristic languor to a desire to influence Dorian, a process
that is itself a sublimated expression of homosexuality. The older gentlemen s
longing for Dorian and his admiration of them adds taboo to the secrecy of the

Gait Variability and Fall Risk in Older Adults

Dr. Susan Whitney November 2, 2014
Introduction
Falling is described as resting on the ground or the floor accidently without being
caused by intrinsic incident or tremendous hazard (Ayoubi Launay, 2014; Tuunainen,
Rasku, Jäntti, Pyykkö, 2014). It is also defined as unexpected, unintended,
unprovoked alteration in body position causing an individual to be in an inferior level
and not resulted from internal disturbance (Menant, Schoene, Sarofim, Lord, 2014).
Background Information
Fall is the major cause of injury in the elderly, which places more load on the
health care system (Krasovsky, Lamontagne, Feldman, Levin, 2014). Samuel D.
Towne Jr. and his colleagues conducted a study to calculate the cost of
hospitalizing older people as a result of falling in Texas Hospital. 77,086 fallers
were hospitalized, costing around 3.1 billion dollars in 2011, which is an increase
of around 2 billion dollars since 2007 (Towne, Ory, Smith, 2014). Moreover, fall
directly causes 21,649 deaths and indirectly causes 5,402 deaths in the United
States in 2010 (Stevens Rudd, 2014). Also, 420,000 individuals around the world
die yearly because of falling (Mignardot et al., 2014). Most falls in older adults take
place during walking (Lee, Verghese, Holtzer, Mahoney, Oh Park, 2014). Therefore,
falls are related to gait variability

Earth is a 1998 Indian period drama film directed by Deepa Mehta. The story is set
in Lahore in the time period directly before and during the partition of India in 1947.
The film recounts the holocaust of Partition through the eyes of Lenny, a crippled
Parsi girl. Lenny s parents live in Lahore with an army of servants, including the
delectable ayah, a beautiful Hindu woman, Shanta.
The movie starts with Lenny revisiting her childhood days as a student coloring her
drawing, and remembering the downfall of British Empire in India as she states
something which indicates the theme of story that it will portray for next 101
minutes and upon which the story will build around. The words she stated accounts
as Hindu, Muslim and Sikhs who had lived together as one entity for centuries
suddenly started to clamor for pieces of India for themselves. The arbitrary line of
division the British would draw to carve up India in August of 1947 would scar the

its independence from the British Rule and for the final time the nation might have to
become a victim to British s much famous DIVIDE RULE policy which will blow
the nation into partition forming 2 separate countries INDIA PAKISTANand in the
dialogue she clearly predicts the ill effects people will have to face at the time of

28. Agape Love Analysis
Paul states at the end of chapter 13, the greatest of these is love . Love is a
common word used in modern day society through many types of expressions. It
may describe the emotion towards an object of affection, or it may be used as an
over dramatization of a liking one takes to a certain type of food per say. Its used to
describe feelings toward a sexual relationship, or feelings towards family member, or
friends. In the English language, there is an almost limitless amount of uses for that
one little word. Yet, in the time of this letter loveas agape love was not a common
terminology for what Paul was expressing. Therefore this paper plans to touch on
what exactly it means when a Roman Jewish man, growing up and proclaiming the
Gospel to a Hellenistic society in 57 AD claims that the greatest of these(faith, hope,
love) ...is love .
Background of the Passage Paul sent the letter to the Roman city of Corinth, a city
known for its immorality. Though they had many gods and goddesses, one of the
main temples was dedicated to the goddess of love, Aphrodite, which in her temple
had hundreds of temple prostitutes (pg. 5, Kistemaker). Along with this temple,
there were many other temples and religious centers, even Jewish synagogues,
which were dispersed throughout Corinth (pg. 3, Fee). It was a very diverse city
filled with Jews, Greeks, slaves, free, prostitutes, ex soldiers, etc. The church in
Corinth was started by Paul on his second missionary trip around 51 52 AD,

The Relative Importance of Four Variables as Possible Indicators of Wake Length.
Introduction
In rivers there are objects that cause more of an obstruction to the overall flow and
so generate more resistance than the surrounding grains. This is because they are
larger than the bed s grains and thus they are sometimes known as large roughness
elements. Large roughness elements are an important feature in the river bed since
they block the path of the flow. Obstructions embedded in a bed such as stones can
cause flow separation which results in phenomena such as detachment of boundary
layer and turbulent wakes (Charlton, 2008, p. 81 87). The flow is separated into
three parallel flows that combine at a later point downstream. Between these ... Show

Stone length shall henceforth refer to the length of the stone parallel to the overall
direction of the water flow. Stone length was determined using two measurements of
length which shared the same starting point: The upstream beginning of the artificial
bed. The first was measured to the upstream end of the stone while the second was
measured to the downstream end of the stone. Stone length was obtained by
subtracting the first measurement from the second measurement. Stone protrusion
shall refer to a measurement taken perpendicular to the flow and approximately
parallel to gravity. Stone protrusion was determined using two measurements of
depth: The first was the depth of the water above the artificial bed. The second was
the depth of the water above the stone. Stone protrusion was obtained by subtracting
the second depth measurement from the first depth measurement. Stone width shall
refer to the measurement taken perpendicular to the both flow and gravity. Stone
width was determined by directly measuring the stone along the widest possible
perpendicular axis to both gravity and the direction of water flow.
Empirically determining the properties of the artificial bed was neglected.
However a few properties can be estimated or stated: The smallest grain sizes in the
bed were approximately 1cm. This was due to the process used for selecting grains
when the artificial bed was created. The maximum grain size did not exceed the size
of any of the stones

The climate of places near big bodies of water is moderated by the water, and does
not have the seasonal extreme of temperature that similar places (similar latitudes etc)
in large land masses experience.
The Earth s oceanic currents are pulled around the Earth in tides (mainly controlled
by the Moon s gravitational pull). The temperature of the ocean also affects tidal
currents, one example of this would be the Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream brings
warm water (and thus, warmer air and weather) across the Atlantic providing
temperate conditions for places like the UK. Recently there have been claims that
because of Global Warming, the Gulf Stream is slowing down. This means that the
water brought by the Gulf Stream would be cooler, and therefore places like the UK
would have a cooler climate and would probably have weather similar to Canada or
Scandinavia. It can warm or cool the land, depending on the current temperatures.

The legal responsibilities of the jury demonstrate the second topic area in the AP
Government Course, Political Beliefs and Behaviors. As seen in the film, many jurors
misunderstand their legal duties, and some simply do not understand the concept of
unreasonable doubt. For example, the seventh juror is more concerned about the
baseball game than thoroughly sorting through the evidence. Additionally, two jurors
play a game of tic tac toe, treating the defendant s life like a game. They trust the
circumstantial evidence because it confirms their bigoted attitudes. For instance, the
sixth juror believes that the boy is a murderer because of his low socioeconomic
background and they all assume that the boy is guilty because of the witnesses
testimonies. All these events display the ways in which each character participates in
political life and exercises their opinion and views on politics. Additionally, the eighth
juror believes that the boy has the right to a fair trial, embodying the last topic in the
AP Government Course. He points out that despite his upbringing and dysfunctional
background, the defendant is innocent until proven

Natural environments and outdoor settings are common places people go when
they want to relax or temporarily escape life s problems. Most often, when choosing
where to vacation, people commonly select a destination with picturesque sceneries
or serene landscapes. For this reason, natural outdoor settings seem like an ideal
place to incorporate recreational therapy activities for those with physical and
mental health issues. Recreational therapists should consider several aspects of their
patients lives when creating these outdoor therapy programs. This paper explores
the social cognitive theory and the behavioral, personal, and environmental
constructs that affect the behavior of veterans with PTSD and other psychological
health issues. There will be a brief discussion regarding the details of the study as
well as the author s findings. In particular, the role of the environment on one s
behavior will be examined. The social cognitive theory is a social psychologytheory
created by Albert Bandura that stems from the social learning theory. Social cognitive
theory suggests that there are multiple factors that shape and affect the behavior of an
individual. Personal, behavioral, and environmental factors can influence each other
and influence how an individual behaves. The hypothesis for this study was that
nature based leisure experiences would benefit military veterans by improving
psychological well being, social functioning, and life outlook. Various military

A Room with a View is a 1908 novel written by E.M. Forster about Lucy
Honeychurch, a young Englishwoman struggling to determine what she truly wants
in a society that has strict expectations for her. While vacationing in Italy, Lucy gets
a taste of independence and excitement as well as meeting her true love George
Emerson, only to return to England and become engaged to Cecil Vyse, a man her
family and society deems socially acceptable, but who in reality is dull and
pretentious. Forster contrasts the scenery, culture, and people of Italyand England to
demonstrate how Lucy was able find happinesswhen she ignored familial and societal
expectations and instead listened to what she truly wanted. Italy and England and

He views her as a piece of artwork to be owned not a thinking person and is
annoyed when she exhibits her own ideas. For example, Cecil is taken aback by
Lucy s distaste for Reverend Eager. He compares her behavior to seeing the
Leonardo on the ceiling of the Sistine (Forster 81). Overall, Italy provides Lucy
with excitement and independence, and upon returning to England she finds
herself to be stifled by its dull familiarity and stiff expectations. On the whole, the
contrast between the two places contributes to the meaning of the work by
emphasizing the importance of defying social convention and expectations in
order to discover one s true desires and happiness. By showing Italy, with its less
defined classes and lack of social rigidity, as bright and exciting, Forster shows
how rewarding it is to ignore social roles and be independent. In Italy, Lucy was
able to be independent and explore, therefore making her time in Italy much more
exciting than in England. Similarly, the scenery itself if depicted as more vibrant.
The contrast between Italy s excitement and England s familiarity emphasize how
much more interesting life is for Lucy when she is taking charge. Forster also
contrasts the people of Italy and England. The Italians are very genuine and go after
what they want, as opposed to the English whose actions are dictated by what other
may think. An example would be when Phaethon, their cab driver, boldly kisses

You can buy a folding reflector to predictably bounce light and work out variety of

The other popular types of filters include Diffusion filters, Neutral Density filters and

the main focus of the website designers has been on responsive design. This is
quite understandable since there has been a steady increase in the number of
mobile Internet users in the past 5 years. In fact the number of mobile Internet users
have exceeded those from any other platform this year (2015). This is a very
important statistic for every business and web development firm. Here are a few
statistics that make it all very clear:
In 2007 the number of mobile Internet users were 400 Million.
In 2007 the number of desktop Internet users were 1100 Million.
In 2010 the number of mobile Internet users were 900 Million.
In 2010 the number of desktop Internet users were 1300 Million.
In 2013 the number of mobile Internet users were 1300 Million while the desktop
Internet users count was at 1600 Million.
The counts are very different today however. According to these statistics taken in
early 2015, the number of mobile Internet users has risen to 1900 Million while the
number of desktop Internet users stands at 1700 Million.

Understanding William Wordsworth s Imagination
The Romantic Movement of literature in England sparked a rapid change in the
common themes of writings produced by the nation s most renowned authors and
poets. Writers often explored more subjective topics such as the effect of nature on
the individual rather than the chemistry of the mind, a topic of greater importance to
philosophers of the Enlightenment. Onto the open stage of this newly flourishing
literary movement stepped William Wordsworth, at that time only a young man in
his twenties or thirties. Wordsworth would soon become a highly influential poet
in this literary era as well as during several political eras that occurred in his
lifetime both in England and the rest of Europe. His presence during such a lengthy
period of rapid change both in literature and other aspects of society made
Wordsworth more than just a great composer of verse. While his poems retain their
value as great reads to this day, Wordsworth serves as a portal into the thoughts of
people living in his time period. The subject matter of his poetry reveals what issues
held the most importance for writers and other citizens of England at the time and the
way in which contemporary politics may have affected writers including Wordsworth.

of virtual vacation; they long for a place to rest and eat without worry. Restaurants
that provide an express holiday from everyday commotion have become the meeting

40. Classism In Sandra Cisneros s The House On Mango Street
In the collection of vignettes, The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros
develops the theme that people should not be devalued because of their financial
circumstances through metaphors of classism, the motif of shame, and the
contrast between minor characters Alicia and Esperanza s mother. Esperanza, the
protagonist, is a Mexican American adolescent living in the rural Chicago region.
She occupies a house on Mango Street with her father, mother, two brothers, Carlos
and Kiki, and little sister, Nenny. Mango Street is filled with low income families,
like Esperanza s, trying to adapt to their difficult circumstances. Esperanza realizes
it is difficult, but she dreams of leaving her house and Mango Street altogether. To
begin, Cisneros uses metaphors of classism to express Espernaza s views of
classism and how it causes those of a lower class to be devalued. Throughout the
novel, Esperanza dreams of moving into a new house, a house on the hill because
people who live on hills sleep so close to the stars that they forget about [those] who
live on earth (86). The house on the hill is a metaphor for those who are higher up in
the social class. Those who live on the hillslive their live their entire lives so easily
and [do not] look down at all except to be content to live on the hills (86). Esperanza
critiques that the higher class are happy with their own lives and ignorant to their
privilege, therefore, they do not care about the less fortunate. This metaphor of

There are quite a few factors that shaped the modern day Olympics from 1892 to
2002. Pierre de Coubertin states that he wanted to create the Olympics to spread
world peace. He does this by substituting war for friendly sports competitions (doc

Some factors that have changed the Olympics are the allowing of women being able
to compete in the Olympics, women s suffrage, nationalism, wars, and economic
conditions (doc 2 7). Women have gone through a lot during this time frame: women
s suffrage, feminism, and more. Despite these instances, women s rights have

Japan was undergoing a mini depression in the economic department. This was due
to the aftershock of World War 2. The Japanese mayor, Ryotaro Azuma, knew they

Azuma was greatly satisfied and content with the outcome. Japan was, again, part of
the worldwide trade and the economy flourished. He believes that the companies,
that deal with the Olympics, have saved him (doc 4). This also relates to the fees

the Olympics were held in Atlanta and the money spent on the social media

are women competitors, women s suffrage, nationalism, wars, and economic
conditions. An increase of women s rights was given, pride for the nations was
shown, wars still occurred, and economies have flourished. The longer the Olympic
Games have aged, the closer the world s state is to Pierre s
42. History Of Campaign Uniforms
The regular soldier had three different uniforms a Campaign Uniform, a Parade
Uniform and a Fatigue Uniform. The government didn t discipline the soldiers like
the British army did, so many of the uniforms were adapted to the commander s
preference, the location of the soldier, and materials that were available in the
area. The Service and Campaign uniforms were pretty much the same in a lot of
ways. The headdress was a black felt hat with one side pinned up with an American
eagle, which was the US s coat of arms. The coat was an almost knee length
Prussian blue jacket. The rank was worn on the coat sleeve. The overcoat was a sky
blue and took after the french model. Only officers wore these, they could also
choose a dark blue version. All
43. The Concept Of Heritage In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Heritage: it is something that everyone possesses, whether they like it or not. It is
not something that people can choose, and it is not something people can change.
Every family has their own unique heritage, each celebrating it in a slightly different
way. In brief, heritage is the celebration of one s familyand culture through family
holidays, feasts, festivals, and traditions. Heritage is something that people innately
celebrate, it does not require much effort to celebrate it. However, some people make
it something not innate by using their heritage as an ostentatious display. The concept
of celebrating heritage innately or ostentatiously is explored through the characters
Maggie, Mama, and Dee in the short storyEveryday Use by Alice Walker.

44. House Of The Spirits And Communism Essay
How Communism Affects Social Classes in Paradise of the Blind and House of the
Spirits
Word Count: 1500
Communism is the idea of a classless society; a society in which there are no
distinctions between social classes and where all government systems are abolished.
A communist society normally aims to allow individuals to obtain a common
political status. Communism, in general, disagrees with old traditions of social
classes (What is Communism?). When communism develops in a society, social
classes become affected as demonstrated in the novels of Paradise of the Blind and
House of the Spirits. In these novels, communism affects the social classes in such a
way that the distinction of the rich and the poor is lessened, and an unequal ... Show

Esteban Trueba, one of the main characters in the book, owns the land of Tres
Marias. Unlike Chinh, who is a member of the peasantry class, Trueba is a member
of the landowning class; therefore he has different views than Chinh.
Since Chinh is a member of the peasantry class, the unequal distribution of wealth
among the classes leads him to believe that the peasantry class is a strong and
hardworking class who deserves more than what they have. He acts as if it is an
honor to be a member of this class. He states, The Do family [their family] never
owned rice paddy, not even the tiniest patch. That is why today, I have been
promoted to chief of the village Land Reform Section (Huong 31). The Land Reform
Section is an organization of the peasantry class that strives to eliminate the wealthy
class (the landowning class). Their goal is to denounce those who own land in front
of the entire community so that the landowners can witness the feeling of shame and
embarrassment. He states They [the landowning class] belong to the exploiting class.
These are precisely the people we must denounce and punish (Huong 22).
By observing the atmosphere of Tres Marias, it is effortless to see the communism
that takes place. In Tres Marias, the upper class [Esteban Trueba and his family]
controls the infrastructure of the environment. He rules as a dictator would, and
disapproves of the peasantry class holding
45. Health Concerns In North Korea
North Korea is a harsh country to live in. It is very difficult to live in North Korea
because health concerns are very high, there is barely any freedom, and schools
there are very different than the United States. Health concerns are very high
because North Korea can t even pay for enough food for their people so they start
getting sick (ВЁLiberty in North KoreaВЁ). There are a lot of poor people their so
they can t pay for medicine to make them feel better (ВЁLiberty in North KoreaВЁ).
After you finish your school year you still would have to work for the state during
the summer (The World Book Encyclopedia 2006). Once you get in North Korea
you can never come out. Which is unfair for all the people their that want to travel the
world.
Freedom in North Korea is very difficult. If you lived in North Korea you can t
leave the country without permission (ВЁLiberty in North KoreaВЁ). If you get
reported for doing something bad then you will end up in prison camp
automatically (ВЁLiberty in North KoreaВЁ). If you are really attached to your
phone then you will not like this country. The reason why is because there is no free
media, you can t have international calls, and you can t even access the internet there
(ВЁLiberty in North KoreaВЁ). It is also illegal to ... Show more content on

North Korea only has to attend 11 years of school. The unfair part of it is you have
to work for the state in the summer time. In North Korea there is only one university
and over 200 specialized colleges. The one university is called Kim II sung
University in Pyongyang. Each college offers training in one area, such as
agriculture, engineering, or medicine. The good thing is that the government
provides night school for adults. Number of North Koreans who can read and write
increased from less than half of the adult population in the mid 1940 s to almost all
of the adult today. North Korea isn t that harsh in education (The World Encyclopedia
46. Marine Debris
Issue Analysis: Marine Debris In an article written by Adam Vaughn for The
Guardian, the issue of marine debris is briefly addressed while a solution to the
issue is analyzed. Marine debris can be commonly known as plastics in the ocean,
and Vaughn s article analyzes biodegradable plastics. While this essay will not
analyze biodegradable plastics, solutions to the issue are an important part of creating
a picture of the issue at hand. Marine debris, or plasticin the ocean, is an issue in
consequence to its negative environmental impact. It is not common for this negative
environmental impact to be argued against. It is more common for this negative
environmental impact to be ignored for the sake of human convenience. In one

More importantly both articles also focus on highlighting consumer awareness and
alternatives to plastics. Specifically, both McGlade and the authors of the academic
article use context to encourage consumers to think about plastic, it s necessity, and
it s consequence. Another specific point is that both articles use examples of how
plastic impacts marine life. The article written by Vaughn uses the example of
jellyfish and how plastics allow them to broaden their range in the ocean and affect
the food chain of other marine life. The academic article uses the example of
marine life ingesting marine debris causing death within different species. Both of
these examples can serve as evidence to marine debris interfering with the
biodiversity of the ocean. As jellyfish disrupt the food chain the cycle of disrupted
food source will continue down the chain as the issue worsens. As marine life ingests
plastics and die off marine food chains are affected even further. To sum up, both
articles use examples that analyze the issue of marine debris, and both articles turn to
the need for change that can solve the problem. Whether the change be technologies
that have real biodegradability or alternate human behaviour all the writers understand
the steps that need to be
47. Henry V Irony
The Irony Depicted in Shakespeare s Henry V
As Norman Rabkin has observed, Henry V is a play which organizes critics into
rival camps of interpretation (35). It can be seen as a play that is ambiguous; a play
that exposes the playwright s own indecision; a play that aggressively takes sides in
favour of nationalistic fervour which Shakespeare himself didn t believe in (35). All
of these views, writes Rabkin, are wrong since according to him the play s ultimate
power lies in its ability to point in two opposite directions, virtually daring us to
choose one of the two opposed interpretations (36). In fact, it is Rabkin that is wrong:
not in his supposition that the play dares the audience to choose, but rather, that a

In the case of the duplicity of Scrope and the other traitors, Henry makes them
examples during their public humiliation (Brennan 42), a public demonstration,
furthermore, of his sense of injury. In Rabkin s words, he knows how to give a
good performance, verification of his political acumen (Either/Or 45). Unlike his
predecessors, this is a king who can recognize that he is in fact a role more than he
is a man, and that ceremony consists only in what is conferred by others. (Rabkin
46). He is so dangerously pragmatic because he is far less detectable and unsettling
because he has none of Richard III s vice like propensity, and we are liable to find
his image building similar to modern politicians (Brennan 24).
This is precisely the kind of brutal clarity that helps in his construction and use of
the U.K. s burgeoning state hood as we know it in the modern sense: the modern
world in which every action of a leader is shaped for public consumption (Brennan
32). The nation is but a mass of potential chaos, a multiplicity which only reaches its
potential as a political, unitary force when it is summoned for battle. Henry s use of
his soldiers for instance, and stress on unity (their shared experience and camaraderie
of Act ....), leads to the illusory notion that there is a possibility of nobility for those
who earn it (Brennan
48. Gender Stereotypes Of The Sexes
Stereotypes of the Sexes Feminist: the person who believes in the social, political,
and economic equality of the sexes. Sexual stereotypes are deeply imbedded into
today s society. Ideals of the gender roles are passed down from generation to
generation, creating a gap between what is socially acceptable for a woman to do
and what is expected of a man. One thousand years ago humans chose dominance by
physical capability, simply because it was essential for our survival, but the world
has evolved. One thousand years ago physical strength was the most important part of
survival for humanbeings. Men in general are physically stronger therefore it made
sense to have a man lead. The world humans live in has evolved and is no longer run
by the physically entailed, but by the most intelligent or creative(Adichie). Though
this world has evolved, the genderexpectations and stereotypes have stayed the
same. Sexual stereotypes in America limit men and women to abide with,by the
expectations of masculinity and feminism, create a sense of shame for women,
and create a gap in today s job industry. Men are raised in a world that expects them
to stay in this box of masculinity. Men are expected to be disconnected from their
emotions, because men don t cry . We teach men to be afraid of vulnerability,
because they are expected to be tough men(Adichie). Men are supposed to be sexual
beings, while women are the emotional ones. In reality, both women and men have
sexual and

Observation: Last week, a ball dispenser was out for the children to play with. It was
on the top of the shelf and Child A was trying to reach for it. Do you want the ball
dispenser Child A ? , I said. I took it from the shelf and put it on the floor; Child A sat
down. I pressed the switch and the ball came out from the ball dispenser. He smiled
and I said, Oh! There it is! as the ball rolled on the floor. He stood up walked towards
the ball and picked it up. He walked back and put the ball into the ball dispenser. He
stared at it for two seconds and he looked at me and said ooh as he raised his hands
on his side. I said, Where is it, Child A ? Where did the ball go? . I held his hand
and guide it towards the switch, and pressed it. He laughed and I clapped my
hands when the ball came out from the dispenser, Yaay! You found it, Child A , I
said. He imitated me and clapped his hands as well. He put the ball in again and
stared at it; I kept on looking at him to see if he would press it. He kept on looking
at me and on the candy dispenser while saying, Ooh ohhh . Where is it, Child A ?
What do we have to do? , I said. He was still looking at me and on the ball dispenser.
I assisted his hands on the switch again and after three tries he did it by himself.
Earlier today, children were playing with the ball dispenser as well. They were
dancing whenever they hear the music it plays whenever the switch was pressed.

50. Bianca Williams All Men Are Created Equal
Perhaps this mentality can be true to some extent, but it cannot be denied that we
will be going against the significance and interpretation of the phrase, All men are
created equal. Anyone regardless of race, who steps onto the soil of America has the
right to pursue everything and anything they want and should not be excluded from
any rights or opportunities. As Bianca Williams states, It is my hope that you are
here to build community and repair the fractures that those before us created, and
that we sometimes perpetuate (4). Williams drives us forward to break down or
deconstruct the negative systems and thoughts we have built over the years. The way
to go about is first, our nation needs to go back to the beginning of recognizing that

John Rowe Townsend once argued that the only practical definition of a children s
book is one that appears on the children s list by a publisher. Contemporary
publishers are not making that distinction any easier; for example, Maurice Sendak
s Outside Over There (1981) was published as a picture book for both children and
adults, and J. K. Rowling s Harry Potter series is available in adult and children s
versions with the only difference being the book s cover art. While folk and Fairy
Tales were not originally intended for children, they have become a staple of children
s literature since the early nineteenth century. On the other hand, many books written
for and widely read by children during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries are
considered historical children s literature today and are read almost exclusively by
adult scholars of children s literature. Children s literature has been written,
illustrated, published, marketed, and purchased consistently by adults to be given to
children for their edification and entertainment. Generally speaking, it is the intended
audience rather than the producers of the texts who define the field. Children s texts
written by child or adolescent authors, such as Daisy Ashford s The Young
Visiters(1919) or Anne Frank s Het Achterhuis (1947; The Diary of a Young Girl,
1952), are exceptions to the rule. Many famous children s authors, such as Louisa

52. Analysis Of Quicksand By Nella Larsen
As John F. Kennedy once said, Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy
of growth . The novel Quicksand by Nella Larsen chronicles the plight of a young,
racially mixed woman struggling with alienation during the Harlem Renaissance.
The female protagonist, Helga Crane, born to a Danish mother and West Indian
father, was abandoned and disowned by both her mother and father. Larsen wrote
the novel in a time during which racial uplift was promoted and it was expected of
women to comply with society s ideologies regarding marriageand female sexuality.
Readers are exposed to the indecisiveness and insecurity of Helga Crane, which
further discourages her desire to become one with herself. As a result of the
stereotypes present in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, the protagonist feels she cannot fit in and builds hesitancy and self doubt.
Helga could neither conform, nor be happy in her unconformity (7). Helga concludes
that she cannot accept the stereotypes put forth by society, neither can she accept her
own identity and individuality with content.
In addition, female clothing is stereotyped in Naxos and Copenhagen. Helga
confirms her wish to exit Naxos, and speaks to the principal, Dr. Anderson. Colors
of clothing are attributed to specific races as, Bright colors are vulgar. Black, gray,
brown, and navy blue are the most becoming colors for colored people. Dark
complected people shouldn t wear yellow, or green or red (16). Standards are
developed for the colors one wishes to wear, those of darker complexions, such as
African Americans are marginalized. Specifically, women of colour are not
encouraged to wear bright colours as they are seen as promiscuous. Colours such as
grey, brown and navy blue represent a sense of simplicity and innocence. While
vibrant colours such as green, yellow, and orange represent seductiveness, glamor
and confidence. Therefore, individuality is limited and one cannot express
themselves according to their personal desires. On the other hand, in Copenhagen,
people of colour, such as Helga, are encouraged to wear bright clothing. Helga visits
her Aunt Katrina in Copenhagen, a society in which she is a young, foreigner and
53. Why Geography Matters More Than Ever By Harm De Blij
Geography is an important factor to consider when you look at this worlds past,
present, or future. So whether it be the earths physical geographic features, the
geopolitics stirring up trouble across the globe, or the economics of growing or
shrinking countries; geography plays a major role. In todays society, geographic
knowledge is one of the most important and valuable tools to possess. Without it, we
are victims of ignorance and endanger ourselves, others, and the world. This
ignorance, possessed by many, is posing a great risk of self destruction. The author
of Why GeographyMatters More Than Ever , Harm de Blij, makes many strong points
on this matter, but occasionally makes unsupported and unclear statements which
tend to stray off topic. Lets get right to the point. There is no such thing as global
warming. This provocative statement presented by the author makes... Show more

He feared the Soviet Unions deviationism ha tainted his Maoist communism. So he
mobilized young people in china, forming the Red Guards and shutting down
schools. These kids were encouraged to attack bourgeois and root out enemies of
the system, including family members. The results of this were devastating. The
economy was left struggling to survive, people and elders were mistreated for
things they didn t do, and there were as many as 30 million casualties. After
explaining this and how Maos death practically saved china, the author makes this
statement. On July 28, 1976, twin earthquakes struck near the city of Tangshan...the
death toll...may have exceeded 700,000 people...The chairmen for life died on
September 9, just six weeks after Tangshan. It probably was no coincidence. This
quote suggests that a political reaction was connected to Maos death. Practically a
conspiracy theory, the author never backs it up with any evidence, proof, or reason.
This weakens the overall topic and distracts from his main

Analysis
These first person point of view argumentative essay, Yes, the Future Looks Bright,
but the Moment Is Hell , by Shawn Mullin and Perspective on Men , by Daphne
Beckham are both understandable essay. Mullin talks about his stressful life in
college while he makes his point about working more than twenty hours a week has a
negative effect on college students. He used his experience and opinion to make his
argument more relevant and understandable from other s point of view. Beckham
simply states her perspective about men. Although she used poems and her own
experience to make it clear and understandable to the readers, essayby Mullin seems
better to me.
The reason I like his essay better then the other one is because I can relate to Mullin
s story, and I also agree with the points he made. I have been through some of the

He did an exceptional job while he begins his essay explaining about the issues that
he was facing to let the readers understand his perspective. He then gathered
information and provide the facts and situations about the obstacles he was facing
on his college life. He also used the information that he experienced to support his
statements. As he made his point, he distinctly provided the reader with the solution
to the problems he was facing and he also explained how each of these solution
would work out. This made it extremely easy for his readers to follow.
The author made his point perfectly well, however he did not state the thesis on the
first paragraph. The point he was trying to make by talking about the problems that
he was facing was working more then twenty hours a week has a negative effect on
college student . I think that should be mentioned on the first
