Working Title
The effects of mountain biking on our mental
health.
Summary of topic My idea is to create a documentary about how
mountain biking has an effect on our mental
health. I will explore the way it can change our
moods through the day. I’ll explore how it can
more than usually effect it positively, but how
sometimes it can have a negative effect, that
being to do with the success of the ride. I also
want to research whether for racers there’s a
point that it turns from fun to stressful.
Why this topic/subject When we started the project, we were told to
try and pick a subject that will mean a lot to us
to try and make us more passionate about this
project. Straight way my idea was to create
something mountain bike related, but the idea
of researching the effects it has on mental
health came after having a talk with a fellow
mountain biker about how it had improved
there week just being out on their bike for a few
hours
What is the purpose of this project, or what is
the point of it?[you can phrase this as a point to
get across, a central argument, etc]
The purpose of this project is to explore the idea
that mountain biking has an effect on people’s
mental health. I want to use the documentary to
find out how man people find that mountain
biking has a positive effect on their mental
health, but also whether some people find tat it
negatively effects it and how.
Intended audience and how are you designing
your project to appeal to that audience –
reference stylistic choices and intentions here
My intended audience will just be the generic
mountain biker. My plan is to include riding
segments within the documentary so it will
appeal to any mountain biker that has some
time to spare.
Intended contributors [who will you interview,
talk to, etc]
My idea is to interview people from the riding
groups that I know. I will be asking hopefully
people that maybe vary from their opinion on
the effect on mental health. Asking some that
mountain bike a lot, some that only mountain
bike a bit and that some who take it very
seriously and race.

Sources for visual materials [this is photos,
footage, images, etc you intend to use on the
project – remember ALL WORK SHOULD BE
ORIGINAL or from appropriate archive sources
this means photos/footage you don’t own must
be modified to your own style and output i.e.
rotoscoping photos, etc]
The source for all of my materials, that being the
footage of the interviews, footage for riding
segments and maybe some photography for the
end of the documentary will all be down to
myself. Everything that I use will be original for
my project and will be created by myself.
There’s maybe a slight chance that some sort of
music will be used during my video so if there is,
I’ll have to source some from somewhere else.
Outline structure for project [for video this
could be a sectioned breakdown with general
timing such as intro, interview, montage, etc for
Fanzine this could be page breakdowns from
pg1 to pg 12]
I’d like to start my project with an intro that will
maybe be about a minute and a half long
introducing the topic, including some voice over
maybe, text and riding. Then a combined 2 and
a half minutes of the interviews and riding then
finishing off with a 1 minute outro. The outro
will just rounding off the subject.
