Analysis of projects

Which specific production tasks have you
enjoyed most this year?
• This year I have found video editing the most enjoyable.
• The post production of the music video and other experiments I thought went the
best out all the things I have done this year.
• I found my small amount of existing knowledge about premier pro useful, but at
the same time I enjoyed learning about the features of Premier Pro and how to use
them.
• I have always being interested in video production and in particular the editing
has always been the thing I was most interested in. Having a large interest in
the technical side of the project made it easier to complete.
What challenges have you faced this
year in your practical work?
• One of the biggest challenges I have faced while doing work for a college project
and not a professional production is having unreliable crew members to help film
or be in a production. Although the music video project ended up being one of
favourites overall, I had issues getting people to be part of the production.
• Even after someone had said they would help, they wouldn’t necessarily stick to
that and there were problems with people not turning up to shoots.
• For the filming part of the music video I had to make some alterations to my
original plan so that not as many people were needed.
Which process do you think you have
made the most development in?
• Previously I have never really planned anything. Although planning still isn’t my
favourite part of any project, I feel this year I have learnt the importance of
it and made developments in my ability to do it.
• During the music video project I didn’t know what to do in terms of idea
generation, planning and existing product research. By the end of the project I
realised some of the importance of it. Over the following projects I started
spending more project time on planning. By the advertising project I was planning
camera shots and properly looking into filming locations.
Which technical skill do you think is you
strongest?
• Before I started this course the thing I had done the most of is editing audio.
As a result I had a head start over other people when using Adobe Audition.
• I also had an existing knowledge of audacity, some of the features of audition
and audacity are similar, this helped me when putting together the story.
• Being familiar with the menus meant that I knew the locations of effects I wanted
to use. I also had an understanding of what the effects did and how to use them.
What do you think has been your best
project and why?
• I think the project that went the best for me was the audio project.
• I had the biggest existing knowledge in audio editing out of all forms of media.
• Because of my existing Adobe Audition knowledge, I was able to get straight to
trying to make the final product sound good. I didn't have to spend time
figuring the basics out. This meant I had more time for alterations to the final
piece.
• I found the initial experimenting work very enjoyable which led to me being more
productive.
Which project did you enjoy least and
why?
• I least enjoyed the adventure project, primarily because of the animation. My
lack of attention span for repetitive things lead me to become bored and
distracted. This meant the practical task ended up dragging.
• I have never being very good at drawing things and I think that the process of
making a product that looks good was hard for me. I spent a lot of time redoing
things to make them look right, this delayed completion of the final product.
How have you managed your time
effectively this year?
This year there were times where I could have managed my time better. The thing I
have struggled with is idea generation. This has delayed me starting projects. Once
I had an idea I was able to manage the time after that fairly well.
In particular, I could have improved my time management during the music video
project. A lack of ideas and people dropping out of helping the production resulted
in a rushed end product.
During the audio project I made sure that I had time to complete all of the
sections of the work. I left some time for random finishing off. I met the deadline
for the work.

What roles/specialism do you see
yourself working in on future projects?
• For my FMP I am looking to specialise in video editing. Video is the form of media
that has so far, always interested me the most.
• Despite this, I have found a growing interest for audio. I have enjoyed making music
and editing existing audio together.
• Image manipulation on Photoshop is another thing I've found I enjoy.
In the future I am currently looking to specialise in editing video. However, I don't
want to give up on audio editing and photo manipulation.
For my FMP I am creating advertising for an existing brand, my current plan is to
combine video editing with audio production. I will do this through using garage band to
create my own music.
What do you see yourself doing at the
end of the course next year?
• I am not currently planning to go to university after leaving college.
• I think I would like to progress my video editing skills. I may do this possibly
through a job or apprenticeship.
• I don't have precise ideas about what I want to do with my future, however I am
looking into the concept of being self employed and editing video, audio or
photos for clients.
• To enable me to work for myself I think that some employment for a company after
I leave college may help me develop my skills. Working with people in industry
for a period of time would help with picking up industry tips and skills.
What research do you need to do in order to
explore your future progression options?
• To explore a career in video editing I need to look into existing companies and
the skills, experience and qualifications they require from potential
candidates.
• I need to look into the self-employed side of the industry and find out how to
get people to buy your services. In addition to this I need to research what the
job is like day to day in order to get a feel for that I may actually end up
doing full time if I comit to it.
• I may also have to look into the cost of equipment, such as computers, to take
the path I want to.
• If I wanted to be self employed, paying for softwhere licences and harwhere is a
concern.

  • 3. Which specific production tasks have you enjoyed most this year? • This year I have found video editing the most enjoyable. • The post production of the music video and other experiments I thought went the best out all the things I have done this year. • I found my small amount of existing knowledge about premier pro useful, but at the same time I enjoyed learning about the features of Premier Pro and how to use them. • I have always being interested in video production and in particular the editing has always been the thing I was most interested in. Having a large interest in the technical side of the project made it easier to complete.
  • 4. What challenges have you faced this year in your practical work? • One of the biggest challenges I have faced while doing work for a college project and not a professional production is having unreliable crew members to help film or be in a production. Although the music video project ended up being one of favourites overall, I had issues getting people to be part of the production. • Even after someone had said they would help, they wouldn’t necessarily stick to that and there were problems with people not turning up to shoots. • For the filming part of the music video I had to make some alterations to my original plan so that not as many people were needed.
  • 5. Which process do you think you have made the most development in? • Previously I have never really planned anything. Although planning still isn’t my favourite part of any project, I feel this year I have learnt the importance of it and made developments in my ability to do it. • During the music video project I didn’t know what to do in terms of idea generation, planning and existing product research. By the end of the project I realised some of the importance of it. Over the following projects I started spending more project time on planning. By the advertising project I was planning camera shots and properly looking into filming locations.
  • 6. Which technical skill do you think is you strongest? • Before I started this course the thing I had done the most of is editing audio. As a result I had a head start over other people when using Adobe Audition. • I also had an existing knowledge of audacity, some of the features of audition and audacity are similar, this helped me when putting together the story. • Being familiar with the menus meant that I knew the locations of effects I wanted to use. I also had an understanding of what the effects did and how to use them.
  • 7. What do you think has been your best project and why? • I think the project that went the best for me was the audio project. • I had the biggest existing knowledge in audio editing out of all forms of media. • Because of my existing Adobe Audition knowledge, I was able to get straight to trying to make the final product sound good. I didn't have to spend time figuring the basics out. This meant I had more time for alterations to the final piece. • I found the initial experimenting work very enjoyable which led to me being more productive.
  • 8. Which project did you enjoy least and why? • I least enjoyed the adventure project, primarily because of the animation. My lack of attention span for repetitive things lead me to become bored and distracted. This meant the practical task ended up dragging. • I have never being very good at drawing things and I think that the process of making a product that looks good was hard for me. I spent a lot of time redoing things to make them look right, this delayed completion of the final product.
  • 9. How have you managed your time effectively this year? This year there were times where I could have managed my time better. The thing I have struggled with is idea generation. This has delayed me starting projects. Once I had an idea I was able to manage the time after that fairly well. In particular, I could have improved my time management during the music video project. A lack of ideas and people dropping out of helping the production resulted in a rushed end product. During the audio project I made sure that I had time to complete all of the sections of the work. I left some time for random finishing off. I met the deadline for the work.

  • 11. What roles/specialism do you see yourself working in on future projects? • For my FMP I am looking to specialise in video editing. Video is the form of media that has so far, always interested me the most. • Despite this, I have found a growing interest for audio. I have enjoyed making music and editing existing audio together. • Image manipulation on Photoshop is another thing I've found I enjoy. In the future I am currently looking to specialise in editing video. However, I don't want to give up on audio editing and photo manipulation. For my FMP I am creating advertising for an existing brand, my current plan is to combine video editing with audio production. I will do this through using garage band to create my own music.
  • 12. What do you see yourself doing at the end of the course next year? • I am not currently planning to go to university after leaving college. • I think I would like to progress my video editing skills. I may do this possibly through a job or apprenticeship. • I don't have precise ideas about what I want to do with my future, however I am looking into the concept of being self employed and editing video, audio or photos for clients. • To enable me to work for myself I think that some employment for a company after I leave college may help me develop my skills. Working with people in industry for a period of time would help with picking up industry tips and skills.
  • 13. What research do you need to do in order to explore your future progression options? • To explore a career in video editing I need to look into existing companies and the skills, experience and qualifications they require from potential candidates. • I need to look into the self-employed side of the industry and find out how to get people to buy your services. In addition to this I need to research what the job is like day to day in order to get a feel for that I may actually end up doing full time if I comit to it. • I may also have to look into the cost of equipment, such as computers, to take the path I want to. • If I wanted to be self employed, paying for softwhere licences and harwhere is a concern.
