This paper proposes a new mechanism called Enhanced Random Early Detection Forward Error Correction (ERED-FEC) to improve video quality over Wireless Local Area Networks. ERED-FEC calculates redundancy rates at the Access Point based on both wireless channel conditions from packet retransmissions and network traffic load from queue length. This allows the redundancy rate to better reflect current network state compared to existing schemes. The experimental results show that ERED-FEC significantly improves video quality compared to other FEC schemes without adding too many redundant packets.

With the proliferation of mobile and wireless computing devices, the demand for continuous network connectivity exits for various wired-and-wireless integrated networks. Since Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is the standard network protocol for communication on the Interne, any wireless network with Internet service need to be compatible with TCP. TCP is tuned to perform well in traditional wired
networks, where packet losses occur mostly because of congestion. However cellular wireless network
suffers from significant losses due to high bit errors and mobile handoff. TCP responds to all losses by
invoking congestion control and avoidance algorithms, resulting in degraded end-to-end performance. This
paper presents an improved Explicit Loss Notification algorithm to distinguish between packet loss due to congestion and packet loss due to wireless errors and handoffs. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol significantly improves the performance of TCP over cellular wireless network in terms of throughput and congestion window dynamics.

Networks must be able to transfer data from one device to another with acceptable
accuracy. For most applications, a system must guarantee that the data received are
identical to the data transmitted. Any time data are transmitted from one node to the
next, they can become corrupted in passage. Many factors can alter one or more bits of
a message. Some applications require a mechanism for detecting and correcting errors.
Some applications can tolerate a small level of error. For example, random errors
in audio or video transmissions may be tolerable, but when we transfer text, we expect
a very high level of accuracy.
At the data-link layer, if a frame is corrupted between the two nodes, it needs to be
corrected before it continues its journey to other nodes. However, most link-layer protocols
simply discard the frame and let the upper-layer protocols handle the retransmission
of the frame. Some multimedia applications, however, try to correct the corrupted frame.
This chapter is divided into five sections.
❑ The first section introduces types of errors, the concept of redundancy, and distinguishes
between error detection and correction.
❑ The second section discusses block coding. It shows how error can be detected
using block coding and also introduces the concept of Hamming distance.
❑ The third section discusses cyclic codes. It discusses a subset of cyclic code, CRC,
that is very common in the data-link layer. The section shows how CRC can be
easily implemented in hardware and represented by polynomials.
❑ The fourth section discusses checksums. It shows how a checksum is calculated for
a set of data words. It also gives some other approaches to traditional checksum.
❑ The fifth section discusses forward error correction. It shows how Hamming distance
can also be used for this purpose. The section also describes cheaper methods
to achieve the same goal, such as XORing of packets, interleaving chunks, or
compounding high and low resolutions packets.
Error Detection And Correction

Providing high quality video on demand (VoD) streaming service over wireless networks is very
challenging due to the limited capacity and error-proneness of the wireless environment. We propose a
flexible forward error correction (FEC) and a fair selection scheme of scalable units that utilize a layered
coding structure of H.264/SVC (scalable video coding). Three error-resilient techniques (e.g., unequal
error protection, FEC, and retransmission) are adapted to minimize the total distortion of VoD streaming
service. For flexible FEC, a rateless FEC code is adopted. The FEC code rates are based on the possible
number of retransmission, the condition of the wireless channel and the layered coding structure of
H.264/SVC for each packet. A theoretical study is performed to show how to utilize the possible number of
retransmission for an adaptive FEC code rate. With fair selection, regular and retransmission-requested
packets compete for resources without fixing the retry limit. Thus, excessive retransmission is prevented and
the proposed scheme effectively provides capacity-limited and delay-constrained VoD streaming services.
For this fair selection of scalable units, we formulate the problem using binary integer programming and
propose an effective low complexity selection algorithm based on a priority index. The proposed algorithm
prioritizes packets according to the priority index and the H.264/SVC structure. We show that the proposed
scheme can minimize the total video distortion compared to other heuristic procedures. Other effects of the
various factors are also considered for the performance of the new scheme

Defects in DNA repair pathways can cause genetic diseases like xeroderma pigmentosum and Cockayne syndrome. Xeroderma pigmentosum patients are highly susceptible to skin cancers due to an inability to repair UV damage.

Error Detection and Correction - Data link Layer
Networks must be able to transfer data from one device to another with acceptable
accuracy. For most applications, a system must guarantee that the data received are
identical to the data transmitted. Any time data are transmitted from one node to the
next, they can become corrupted in passage. Many factors can alter one or more bits of
a message. Some applications require a mechanism for detecting and correcting errors.
Some applications can tolerate a small level of error. For example, random errors
in audio or video transmissions may be tolerable, but when we transfer text, we expect
a very high level of accuracy.
At the data-link layer, if a frame is corrupted between the two nodes, it needs to be
corrected before it continues its journey to other nodes. However, most link-layer protocols
simply discard the frame and let the upper-layer protocols handle the retransmission
of the frame. Some multimedia applications, however, try to correct the corrupted frame.
This chapter is divided into five sections.
❑ The first section introduces types of errors, the concept of redundancy, and distinguishes
between error detection and correction.
❑ The second section discusses block coding. It shows how error can be detected
using block coding and also introduces the concept of Hamming distance.
❑ The third section discusses cyclic codes. It discusses a subset of cyclic code, CRC,
that is very common in the data-link layer. The section shows how CRC can be
easily implemented in hardware and represented by polynomials.
❑ The fourth section discusses checksums. It shows how a checksum is calculated for
a set of data words. It also gives some other approaches to traditional checksum.
❑ The fifth section discusses forward error correction. It shows how Hamming distance
can also be used for this purpose. The section also describes cheaper methods
to achieve the same goal, such as XORing of packets, interleaving chunks, or
compounding high and low resolutions packets.
Error Detection And Correction

Providing high quality video on demand (VoD) streaming service over wireless networks is very
challenging due to the limited capacity and error-proneness of the wireless environment. We propose a
flexible forward error correction (FEC) and a fair selection scheme of scalable units that utilize a layered
coding structure of H.264/SVC (scalable video coding). Three error-resilient techniques (e.g., unequal
error protection, FEC, and retransmission) are adapted to minimize the total distortion of VoD streaming
service. For flexible FEC, a rateless FEC code is adopted. The FEC code rates are based on the possible
number of retransmission, the condition of the wireless channel and the layered coding structure of
H.264/SVC for each packet. A theoretical study is performed to show how to utilize the possible number of
retransmission for an adaptive FEC code rate. With fair selection, regular and retransmission-requested
packets compete for resources without fixing the retry limit. Thus, excessive retransmission is prevented and
the proposed scheme effectively provides capacity-limited and delay-constrained VoD streaming services.
For this fair selection of scalable units, we formulate the problem using binary integer programming and
propose an effective low complexity selection algorithm based on a priority index. The proposed algorithm
prioritizes packets according to the priority index and the H.264/SVC structure. We show that the proposed
scheme can minimize the total video distortion compared to other heuristic procedures. Other effects of the
various factors are also considered for the performance of the new scheme

Developed approach for phase-based Eulerian video magnification

The Transport Control Protocol (TCP) is used to establish and control a session between two endpoints. The problem is that in 802.11 wireless environments TCP always considers that the packet loss is caused by network congestion. However, in these networks packet loss are usually caused by the high bit error rate, and the wireless link failures. Researchers found out that TCP performance in wireless networks can be highly enhanced as long as it is feasible to identify the packet loss causes; hence appropriate measures can be dynamically applied during an established TCP session in order to adjust the session parameters. This paper proposes an endto-end adaptive mechanism that allows the TCP session to dynamically adjust the RTO (Retransmission Timeout) of a TCP session; the server will have to adjust the timers based on feedbacks from clients. Feedbacks are piggybacked in the TCP Options header field of the ACK (Acknowledgment) messages. A feedback is an approximation of the time needed by the wireless channel to get the errors fixed. The mechanism has been validated using numerical analysis and simulations, and then compared to the original TCP protocol. Simulation results have shown better performance in terms of number of retransmissions at the server side due to the decrease in the number of timeouts; and thus lowest congestion on the wireless access point.

A performance enhancement of physical layer at Wi-MAX system with RLDPC code
In present wireless communication network, the error correction codes plays the major role for efficient data transmission in noisy environments. To get minimum BER and PAPR has been the main aim towards the field in forward error control coding. Majority of the researchers has considered turbo codes at specific SNR over AWGN channel but have complexity issues with the iterative output decoder and causes degradation in the Wi-Max network system. In this paper, the author presents and evaluates WiMAX physical layer performance with using MIMO technologies, where a RobustLDPC technique of coding and decoding in OFDM based WiMAX system is considered. The decoding method of RLDPC has processed by Belief Propagation at the logarithmic domain in an iterative manner, the proposed methodology shows good decoding outcome for RLDPC codes at Rician and Rayleigh channel. Moreover, the applicability of our proposed model channel codes is defined under IEEE Wi-MAX standard and the results analysis is done under different code-rate and modulation schemes.
Energy-Aware Wireless Video Streaming
This paper proposes an adaptive energy management policy for wireless video streaming between a battery-powered client and server. It models the energy consumption of the server and client based on factors like CPU frequency, transmission power, and channel bandwidth. The paper formulates an optimization problem to assign optimal energy to each video frame. This maximizes system lifetime while meeting a minimum video quality requirement. Experimental results show the proposed policy increases overall system lifetime by 20% on average.

The IEEE 802.11n supports high data rate transmissions due its physical layer Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) advanced antenna system and MAC layer enhancement features (frame aggregation and block acknowledgement). As a result this standard is very suitable for multimedia services through its Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA). This paper focuses on evaluating the Quality of Service (QoS) application on the performance of the IEEE 802.11n random topology WLAN. Three different number of nodes (3, 9 and 18) random topology with one access point are modeled and simulated by using the Riverbed OPNET 17.5 Modular to investigate the Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) performance for different spatial streams. The result clarified the impact of QoS application and showed that its effect is best at the 18 node number topology. For a 4x4 MIMO, when QoS is applied and with respect to the no QoS application case, simulation results show a maximum improvement of 86.4%, 33.9%, 52.2% and 68.9% for throughput, delay, data drop and retransmission attempts, respectively.

The primary goal of Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) is to support the secure transmission of applications via vehicles. Broadcasting is an important form of communication in the VANET network. Since there is no recovery for broadcast frames in the VANET network, the rate of receiving safe messages can become very low, especially in dense network conditions. In this paper, we present a new broadcast coordination mechanism with the aim of adaptive control of CW size to improve the received rate of safety messages. Each vehicle in the VANET can identify current local conditions of the network such as collisions or congestion by analyzing recently successfully sent and received frames. Based on the analysis of the received frame rate at each vehicle, the proposed mechanism controls the CW size and uses the EDCA mechanism to prioritize the important data flows. Using a combination of simulation tools in VANET, we build simulation scenarios in different network conditions to evaluate the received rate of safety messages compared to the default mechanism in the 802.11p standard. Simulation results have demonstrated that the proposed mechanism improves the received rate of safety messages better than the default mechanism in the 802.11p standard in all cases.

- 1. AN ACCESS POINT-BASED FEC MECHANISM FOR VIDEO TRANSMISSION OVER WIRELESS LANS ABSTRACT: Forward Error Correction (FEC) is one of the most common means of performing packet error recovery in data transmissions. FEC schemes typically tune the FEC rate in accordance with feedback information provided by the receiver. However, the feedback and FEC rate calculation processes inevitably have a finite duration, and thus the FEC rate implemented at the sender may not accurately reflect the current state of the network. This paper proposes an Enhanced Random Early Detection Forward Error Correction (ERED- FEC) mechanism to improve the quality of video transmissions over Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). In contrast to most FEC schemes, the FEC redundancy rate is calculated directly at the Access Point (AP). Moreover, the redundancy rate is tuned in accordance with both the wireless channel condition (as indicated by the number of packet retransmissions) and the network traffic load (as indicated by the AP queue length). The experimental results show that the proposed ERED-FEC mechanism achieves a significant improvement in the video quality compared to existing FEC schemes without introducing an excessive number of redundant packets into the network.
