BIODIESEL IN GEORGIA
PRODUCTION OF ALTERNATIVE, CLEAN, RENEWABLE FUEL

Georgia today entirely depends on imported hydrocarbons; therefore, the
development of alternative, renewable eco-friendly fuels is one of the top
priorities for our country; it is very important for its energy independence,
economic growth, as well as the healthier environment.
the Government of Georgia approved the updated Nationally Determined
Contribution (NDC) and 2030 Climate Change Strategy and 2021-2023 Action
Plan (CSAP). on April 8, 2021 On May 5, Georgia officially submitted the
updated NDC to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention
on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
In June 2014, the EU and Georgia signed an Association Agreement, which
entered into force on July 1, 2016On 23 Apr 2016 Georgia signed a historic
Paris climate deal alongside 170 other nations at a high-level ceremony at the
United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York
The overall picture of the last years shows a clear, steady increasing trend of
fuel import in Georgia and furthermore, it is very alarming that Russia is
becoming the biggest supplier of fuel to Georgia.
For sustainable development, Georgia’s economy needs a reliable, steady
energy supply, affordable prices, as well as energy sources diversification and
development of its own energy production.
The challenges Georgia’s energy sector and the country’s obligations
The development of renewable energies, such as solar, wind, biomass, hydrogen, thermal waters,
tide, etc. is very important for the modern world, including Georgia.
The share of Renewable energy sources will be steadily increasing over the 20 years period.

Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel (1858 – 1913 ) great
German scientist, engineer, and inventor.
His invention of a new type of compression-
ignition engine, named after him the Diesel engine,
shaped grate deal the development of the whole
world industry in the 20th century.

engines has been changed trough the
times, but they are all based on the
same principle of the compression-
ignition engine, invented by Rudolf
Diesel in 1873
• In 2018, our company, “Biodiesel Georgia LLC”, first time in Georgia and in
the whole region of the South Caucasus, implemented innovative
technology, launched a biodiesel plant, and started production of clean,
renewable, environmentally friendly fuel – biodiesel www.biodiesel.ge .
• Biodiesel is meant to be used in standard diesel engines and no engine
modification is required, biodiesel can be also blended with conventional
petro-diesel.
• The plant uses secondary (used) cooking oil as raw material for biodiesel
production. Our biodiesel plant has already utilized and processed almost
1250 thousand liters of used cooking oil and produced more than 1035
tons of clean, eco-friendly fuel - biodiesel.
• We produce and sell biodiesel in Georgia under the brand “B5”, “B10”
“B20”, and “B100”. The product has already gained loyal customers and
more and more new clients choose biodiesel as an environmentally
friendly and high-quality fuel.
• Taking into consideration the fact that one ton of biodiesel can save 2.68
tons of carbon dioxide emissions Biodiesel Georgia LLC has already saved
more than 1 million kg of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.
The First Biodiesel Plant in Georgia and in the whole region of The South Caucasus
Biodiesel - alternative, renewable, carbon-neutral, eco-friendly fuel – a solution for energy
independence and a safe, clean environment.
• Scientific definition: Biodiesel is defined as mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids
derived from vegetable oils or animal fats though the process of etherification.
• or, in other words Biodiesel is the name of a clean burning alternative fuel, made from
natural vegetable oils, animal fats, vegetable oils, and/or animal fats, i.e. bio resources.
• Biodiesel is meant to be used in standard diesel engines and no engine modification is
required, biodiesel can be also blended with conventional petrodiesel .
• Biodiesel is better for the environment because it is made from renewable resources and has
lower emission compared to petroleum diesel
• Biodiesel is a high quality fuel; therefore biodiesel can be used in any segment of industry
where petro-diesel is used, including the internal combustion engines.
• The physical and chemical characteristics of biodiesel are quite close to those of petroleum
based diesel fuel , but unlike petroleum based fuel Biodiesel is a renewable, eco-friendly
and carbon-neutral fuel.
• since biodiesel has a closed carbon cycle, biodiesel, unlike petroleum based products, does
not add CO2 and GHG gases to the atmosphere.
• Biodiesel, is especially effective in urban areas, where the concentration of vehicles is high
and the air is more polluted with harmful emissions from internal combustion engines,
therefore Biodiesel is excellent solution for urban transportation.
Collection of used, secondary cooking oil and production of biodiesel and glycerin
• Biodiesel Georgia LLC has organized logistic system covering the
Tbilisi, the capital as well as regions.
• The Fast foods and restaurants do not throw away used cooking oil
neither feed it to animal farms, but collect and store it in special
containers.
• The logistic service of Biodiesel Georgia LLC regularly visits fast foods
and restaurants and collects the oil.
• The oil then is delivered to the biodiesel plant located in Tbilisi.
• The oil if filtered and recycled through the process of esterification
into a clean, eco-friendly fuel – biodiesel.
• Biodiesel production is a zero-waste process, the oil will turn into
biodiesel and glycerin, which is also a very valuable product.
• Biodiesel Georgia LLC completely recycles the waste and produces
two valuable products and zero waste.

Are we against internal combustion engines?
No, actually, we are against the harmful emissions from IC
engines.
Do IC engines always emit harmful emissions?
No, they don’t, if they use eco-friendly fuel, such as
ethanol or biodiesel.

Biodiesel is a carbon-neutral fuel.
1 ton of biodiesel fuel saves 2,64 tons of CO2 emission in

there is a high concentration of vehicles and the high-

The raw material for biodiesel is plant oil, and
one of the best sources for biodiesel production
is the oil (new or used) derived from Rapeseeds,
( Canola, Latin: Brassica napus)
Under the ILIAUNI project “Biodiesel in Georgia”
10 hectares of land were cultivated in Kakheti
region, eastern Georgia.

the Canola fields Dedoplistskaro municipality, Kakheti
Region, eastern Georgia
The biodiesel industry gave a new impulse to agribusiness diversification in Georgia
Biodiesel Georgia LLC, plans and achievements
• Our biodiesel plant has already utilized and processed almost
1250 thousand liters of used cooking oil and produced more
than 1035 tons of clean, eco-friendly fuel - biodiesel. Our
product is sold on a wholesale basis as well as in the retail
network of gas stations.
• Since 2018 the plant has been operating successfully,
constantly increasing production; “Biodiesel Georgia LLC” has
already created 45 new jobs; the company has already paid
almost 1750 thousand GEL as salaries and 1925 thousand GEL
taxes.
• The existing plant reached its production limit – of 30 tons per
month. “Biodiesel Georgia LLC” is planning to build a new, larger,
modern biodiesel plant with a capacity of 120 tons per month.
• “Biodiesel Georgia LLC” www.biodiesel.ge has ambitious and
long-term plans and is determined to develop further
production of biodiesel in Georgia.
Development of biodiesel production in Georgia will bring many benefits:

Georgia today entirely depends on imported hydrocarbons; therefore, the development of alternative, renewable eco-friendly fuels is one of the top priorities for our country; it is very important for its energy independence, economic growth, as well as the healthier environment. the Government of Georgia approved the updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and 2030 Climate Change Strategy and 2021-2023 Action Plan (CSAP). on April 8, 2021 On May 5, Georgia officially submitted the updated NDC to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). In June 2014, the EU and Georgia signed an Association Agreement, which entered into force on July 1, 2016On 23 Apr 2016 Georgia signed a historic Paris climate deal alongside 170 other nations at a high-level ceremony at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York The overall picture of the last years shows a clear, steady increasing trend of fuel import in Georgia and furthermore, it is very alarming that Russia is becoming the biggest supplier of fuel to Georgia. For sustainable development, Georgia’s economy needs a reliable, steady energy supply, affordable prices, as well as energy sources diversification and development of its own energy production. Rudolf Diesel and the history of biodiesel “ The use of vegetable oils for engine fuels may seem insignificant today, but such oils may become, in the course of time, as important as petroleum and the coal-tar products of the present time” Rudolf Diesel, 1912 Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel (1858 – 1913 ) great German scientist, engineer, and inventor. His invention of a new type of compression- ignition engine, named after him the Diesel engine, shaped grate deal the development of the whole world industry in the 20th century. The shape and design of the diesel engines has been changed trough the times, but they are all based on the same principle of the compression- ignition engine, invented by Rudolf Diesel in 1873
  • 5. • In 2018, our company, “Biodiesel Georgia LLC”, first time in Georgia and in the whole region of the South Caucasus, implemented innovative technology, launched a biodiesel plant, and started production of clean, renewable, environmentally friendly fuel – biodiesel www.biodiesel.ge . • Biodiesel is meant to be used in standard diesel engines and no engine modification is required, biodiesel can be also blended with conventional petro-diesel. • The plant uses secondary (used) cooking oil as raw material for biodiesel production. Our biodiesel plant has already utilized and processed almost 1250 thousand liters of used cooking oil and produced more than 1035 tons of clean, eco-friendly fuel - biodiesel. • We produce and sell biodiesel in Georgia under the brand “B5”, “B10” “B20”, and “B100”. The product has already gained loyal customers and more and more new clients choose biodiesel as an environmentally friendly and high-quality fuel. • Taking into consideration the fact that one ton of biodiesel can save 2.68 tons of carbon dioxide emissions Biodiesel Georgia LLC has already saved more than 1 million kg of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere. Biodiesel - alternative, renewable, carbon-neutral, eco-friendly fuel – a solution for energy independence and a safe, clean environment. • Scientific definition: Biodiesel is defined as mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats though the process of etherification. • or, in other words Biodiesel is the name of a clean burning alternative fuel, made from natural vegetable oils, animal fats, vegetable oils, and/or animal fats, i.e. bio resources. • Biodiesel is meant to be used in standard diesel engines and no engine modification is required, biodiesel can be also blended with conventional petrodiesel . • Biodiesel is better for the environment because it is made from renewable resources and has lower emission compared to petroleum diesel • Biodiesel is a high quality fuel; therefore biodiesel can be used in any segment of industry where petro-diesel is used, including the internal combustion engines. • The physical and chemical characteristics of biodiesel are quite close to those of petroleum based diesel fuel , but unlike petroleum based fuel Biodiesel is a renewable, eco-friendly and carbon-neutral fuel. • since biodiesel has a closed carbon cycle, biodiesel, unlike petroleum based products, does not add CO2 and GHG gases to the atmosphere. • Biodiesel, is especially effective in urban areas, where the concentration of vehicles is high and the air is more polluted with harmful emissions from internal combustion engines, therefore Biodiesel is excellent solution for urban transportation.

Collection of used, secondary cooking oil and production of biodiesel and glycerin • Biodiesel Georgia LLC has organized logistic system covering the Tbilisi, the capital as well as regions. • The Fast foods and restaurants do not throw away used cooking oil neither feed it to animal farms, but collect and store it in special containers. • The logistic service of Biodiesel Georgia LLC regularly visits fast foods and restaurants and collects the oil. • The oil then is delivered to the biodiesel plant located in Tbilisi. • The oil if filtered and recycled through the process of esterification into a clean, eco-friendly fuel – biodiesel. • Biodiesel production is a zero-waste process, the oil will turn into biodiesel and glycerin, which is also a very valuable product. • Biodiesel Georgia LLC completely recycles the waste and produces two valuable products and zero waste.
  • 8. Did you know: 1 ton of biodiesel can save 2,64 tons of CO2 emission in the atmosphere Q & A session: Are we against internal combustion engines? No, actually, we are against the harmful emissions from IC engines. Do IC engines always emit harmful emissions? No, they don’t, if they use eco-friendly fuel, such as ethanol or biodiesel. Biodiesel is a renewable, eco-friendly fuel. Biodiesel is a carbon-neutral fuel. 1 ton of biodiesel fuel saves 2,64 tons of CO2 emission in the atmosphere. Biodiesel is especially effective in urban areas, where there is a high concentration of vehicles and the high- density of population. Biodiesel is an excellent solution for urban transport.

The raw material for biodiesel is plant oil, and one of the best sources for biodiesel production is the oil (new or used) derived from Rapeseeds, ( Canola, Latin: Brassica napus) Under the ILIAUNI project “Biodiesel in Georgia” 10 hectares of land were cultivated in Kakheti region, eastern Georgia. The scientists from ILIAUNI and agronomists controlling the Canola fields Dedoplistskaro municipality, Kakheti Region, eastern Georgia The biodiesel industry gave a new impulse to agribusiness diversification in Georgia

Biodiesel Georgia LLC, plans and achievements • Our biodiesel plant has already utilized and processed almost 1250 thousand liters of used cooking oil and produced more than 1035 tons of clean, eco-friendly fuel - biodiesel. Our product is sold on a wholesale basis as well as in the retail network of gas stations. • Since 2018 the plant has been operating successfully, constantly increasing production; “Biodiesel Georgia LLC” has already created 45 new jobs; the company has already paid almost 1750 thousand GEL as salaries and 1925 thousand GEL taxes. • The existing plant reached its production limit – of 30 tons per month. “Biodiesel Georgia LLC” is planning to build a new, larger, modern biodiesel plant with a capacity of 120 tons per month. • “Biodiesel Georgia LLC” www.biodiesel.ge has ambitious and long-term plans and is determined to develop further production of biodiesel in Georgia.
