Abstract The temperature reached by solar cells/modules during operation has been simulated to have information about the temperature distribution in the solar cell/module. A finite element (FE) model of the solar cell/module was created in COMSOL Multiphysics environment. The simulations enable visualization of the temperature distribution in crystalline silicon solar cell. The effect of different encapsulating materials, Ethylene-vinyl Acetate (EVA) and silicone on cell temperature are also investigated. An unwanted side-effect of the encapsulation of solar cells into a PV module is that the encapsulation alters the heat flow into and out of the PV module, thereby increasing the operating temperature of the PV module. These increases in temperature have a major impact on the PV module by reducing its voltage, thereby lowering the output power. A finite element (FE) model representing a real crystalline silicon solar cell/module in terms of size, mechanical and material properties is created. An in-depth study of the FE software used, COMSOL Multiphysics is done in other to get the best output in terms of solver configuration and memory considerations. Four different geometries of the solar cell/module are created for these simulations; each representing a stage or variant in the solar module assembly. At first, the models are validated comparing results from simulations such as the effect of changes in solar irradiance, wind velocity and incident angle of solar irradiance on temperature with those in literature. The effect of the type of protective cover used in the encapsulation, either glass-glass or glass-Tedlar on cell temperature is analyzed. The thickness of the protective cover layers and its optical properties are also investigated based on their effects on cell/module temperature. All the simulations leading to the conclusions drawn about the cell/module temperature and its distribution were performed by varying wind velocity, irradiance, material sizes and incident angle among other model modifications. Initial Development of an Electrical Power Generator by using Thermoelectric ...IJECEIAES
Electrical energy is important in various developments to ensure global stability. However, most electrical energy sources are non-renewable and these sources are expected to be depleted in the near future. In order to solve this problem, research on renewable energy sources are intensified and thermoelectric generator (TEG) is one of the potential solutions. TEG can generate electricity if the there is a temperature difference between the hot end and cold end of its plate and it is widely used in various applications, ranging from high temperature of a steam generator until to the lowest temperature of a human body. The initial development of this work focuses on the electrical power generator design by using focal lens to focus sunlight, a form of renewable energy, on the TEG hot end and also underground heat dissipation system on the cold end to create temperature difference. The initial results showed that the amount of power produced by the system is quite small but reasonable due to the type of TEGs used. However, the heat dissipation system showed a promising development due to its nondependency on external energy to expel heat from the cold side.
Nowadays humans are facing difficult issues, such as increasing power costs, environmental pollution and global warming.. Scientists are focusing on enhancing energy-harvesting power generators in an effort to lessen their effects. Through the Seebeck effect, thermoelectric generators (TEGs) have proven they are capable of converting thermal energy directly into electric power. Thermoelectric systems have arisen during the past ten years as a possible alternative to existing green energy generation technologies because of the distinctive advantages they provide.
Combined Efficiency Calculation of Bismuth Telluride and Lead Telluride in Th...IJMERJOURNAL
Abstract:- The heat rejected from an internal combustion engine is dumped into the atmosphere as waste heat. If this waste heat energy is tapped and converted into usable energy, the overall efficiency of an engine can be improved. The percentage of energy rejected to the environment through exhaust gas is approximately 30-40%.The thermoelectric generators are used for power generation . Thermoelectric modules which are used in thermoelectric generators are solid state devices that are used to convert thermal energy from a temperature gradient to electrical energy and it works on basic principle of Seebeck effect. The objective of this project is to include fin effect to increase cooling rate , to reduce the temperature by increasing the temperature difference and to use long fin and avoid accumulation of heat in between fins . The TEG system is directly connected to the exhaust pipe and the amount of electricity generated by the thermoelectric material is directly proportional to their heated area . The materials used in TEG are Bi2Te3 - Bismuth Telluride and PbTe - Lead Telluride . Bi2Te3 module TEG is highly efficient in room temperature , but heat withstanding capacity of Bi2Te3 is less than PbTe.The combination of these thermoelectric materials are used for better efficiency . The testing is done for above conditions and experimental results with this setup are performed and presented.

In this paper, a time stepping 2D and 3D FEM is performed for modeling and analysis interior rotor DFIG .The finite element method currently represents the state-of-the-art in the numerical magnetic field computation relating to electrical machines. FEM is a numerical method to solve the partial differential equations (PDE) that expresses the physical quantities of interest, in this case Maxwell’s equations. This will result in a more accurate result compared to analytical modeling, which can be regarded as a simplification of the PDE. FEM analysis is used for transient mode, magnetic field calculation, the magnetic flux density and vector potential of machine is obtained. In this model we including, non linear material characteristics, eddy current effect, torque-speed characteristics, ambient temperature effect and magnetic analysis are investigated.

COMPUTATIONAL STUDY OF COOLING OF PV SOLAR PANEL USING FINNED HEAT PIPE TECHN...IAEME Publication
Various solar energy technologies exist and they have different application techniques in the generation of electrical power. The widespread use of photovoltaic (PV) modules in such
technologies has been relatively high costs and low efficiencies. The efficiency of PV panel decreases as the operating temperature increases. This is due to reflection from the top surface, absorption of heat by the parts other than the cell, absorption of heat from the other portion of the spectrum.
The usage of thermoelectric generator as a renewable energy sourceTELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
Currently thermoelectric generators (TEG) are widely used in biomedical, military and space satellite power applications. TEG of high power plants are mostly used in automobile and industrial engines. This paper discusses TEG as a renewable energy source. Here the TEG in the application is used in the thermoelectric generator power plant. The working principle of this thermoelectric generator is on the heat side of the TEG peltier which is coated in metal in the form of aluminum, which is heated by a heater. And the cold side of the TEG Peltier is placed on the heat sink (as a heat dissipation metal). Heatsinks are submerged in water which are submerged about half or more. If the temperature of the metal being heated and the temperature of heat dissipation metal have a certain difference, then the temperature difference causes TEG to start working. The greater the temperature difference, the greater the electrical energy produced will be. However, if the temperature difference is too large it will damage the bismuth semiconductor material used. After TEG starts working it will produce voltage and current.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
