Relations between Structural Damage and Level of External Prestressing Force ...drboon
Prestressed concrete beams can be damaged by overloading beyond cracking stage leading to the reduction of flexural rigidity and excessive deflection. The progressive of damage, crack and permanent deflection can be occurred at the high level of load after cracking. Structural performance of damaged girder can be recovered and improved by external post tension. The level of external prestressing force required in strengthening depends directly on the level of damage due to overloading. This research studied the effect of levels of damage on flexural rigidity, crack and deflection of the test girder. Three levels of damage can be expressed in terms of 0.65, 0.75 and 0.85 times the predicted ultimate load of the test beam. Three levels of external prestressing forces (2, 2.5 and 3 times of the internal prestressing force applied in undamaged reference beam) are applied in strengthening at each level of damage. The results show that reduced flexural rigidity, increased permanent deformation and crack width due to overloading can be recovered by external post tension. Strengthening by means of external post tension can be effectively applied to the damaged beam at the level of damage not more than 0.65 times of predicted ultimate load.
Finite element modeling and bending stress analysis of non standard spur geareSAT Journals
Abstract Gears are toothed wheels, transmitting power and motion from one shaft to another by means of successive engagement of teeth. Having a higher degree of reliability, compactness, high velocity ratio and finally able to transmit motion at a very low velocity, gears are gaining importance as the most efficient means for transmitting power. A gearing system is susceptible to problems such as interference, backlash and undercut. The contact portions of tooth profiles that are not conjugate is called interference. Furthermore due to interference and in the absence of undercut, the involute tip or face of the driven gear tends to dig out the non-involute flank of the driver. The response of a spur gear and its wear is an engineering problem that has not been completely overcome yet. With the perspective of overcoming such defects and for increase the efficiency of gearing system, the use of a non-standard spur gear i.e., an asymmetric spur gear having different pressure angles for drive and coast side of the tooth comes into picture. This paper emphasis on the generation of an asymmetric spur gear tooth using modeling software and bending stress at the root of Asymmetric spur gear tooth is estimated by finite element analysis using ANSYS software and results were compared with the standard spur gear tooth. Keywords: Asymmetric spur gear, Bending stress, Finite element method, Pressure angle

A study on the mechanical properties of s45 c medium type carbon steel specim...eSAT Journals
Abstract The experimental process is a fundamental technique used to determine the nature and behavior of many materials under study. In order to evaluate the fundamental properties of many engineering materials the use of mechanical testing techniques frequently play a crucial role. The development of new materials and the control of material quality are essential in the process of design and in their usage for industrial applications and construction. In this experiment, there were 2 sets (5 samples each) of medium type steel specimens S45C of 0.45% carbon content that were rigorously prepared according to ASTM standards under specific varied parameters. These parameters include the machining cutter speeds on the lathe machine and the mediums selected and temperatures set for the quenching process on the steel specimens in order to affect their overall microstructure. The specimens were then subjected to aggregate mechanical loading using a conventional tensile testing machine. The consequential effect of material structure metamorphosis under the selected quenching techniques was ultimately not part of the study as it involves microscopic analysis of grain boundaries and high-end precision equipment would be necessary to do any significant material analysis. The results of the experiment suggest that the macroscopic (not microscopic) effect of the lathe machining speeds do not significantly affect the tensile material strength of the S45 medium carbon steel specimen. Thus, the mediums and temperatures selected for the quenching process on the specimens had a marginal but significant effect on the elevated levels of tensile mechanical strength and strain of medium type carbon steel. Keywords: mechanical properties, carbon steel, lathe machine, S45C, quenching process, tensile test, stress, strain.

Investigations on material casualty of plates under impact load conditionseSAT Journals
Abstract Impact problems are typical in nature since they involve geometry, boundary and material non-linearity. The impact of projectiles at sub-ordnance velocities against mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum plates has been studied. In this paper, target plates of 3mm thickness of materials Mild steel, Titanium are made to impact by Tungsten fragment with different velocities 300, 500, 700 and 1000 mm/ms. On impact, kinetic energy and residual velocity of this fragment is plotted to visualize the damage of the respective target plate. It is observed that the element size significantly affects the numerical results. Hence a sufficiently refined mesh is used. Kinetic energy is an essential parameter to be determined in order to study damage behavior of target. Higher the kinetic energy absorption, leads to higher is the damage target. So, higher initial velocities are required for the fragment in order to create the necessary damage in the target. Index Terms: Projectile, Target plate, Mild steel, Tungsten, Titanium

Courier management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
It is now-a-days very important for the people to send or receive articles like imported furniture, electronic items, gifts, business goods and the like. People depend vastly on different transport systems which mostly use the manual way of receiving and delivering the articles. There is no way to track the articles till they are received and there is no way to let the customer know what happened in transit, once he booked some articles. In such a situation, we need a system which completely computerizes the cargo activities including time to time tracking of the articles sent. This need is fulfilled by Courier Management System software which is online software for the cargo management people that enables them to receive the goods from a source and send them to a required destination and track their status from time to time.
