This document summarizes a study analyzing the failure of cylinder head valve springs in locomotives. The researchers modeled a coil spring using PRO-E software and analyzed it using ANSYS to simulate different materials, loads, and conditions. They found that heat treatment and proper material selection are important to prevent spring failure from high cycle fatigue. Static structural analysis was performed on models made of chromium vanadium steel and low-carbon steel to determine stresses and optimize material choice. The analysis aims to understand failure mechanisms and improve spring design and quality to avoid premature failures in locomotive engines.
Finite element modeling and bending stress analysis of non standard spur geareSAT Journals
Abstract Gears are toothed wheels, transmitting power and motion from one shaft to another by means of successive engagement of teeth. Having a higher degree of reliability, compactness, high velocity ratio and finally able to transmit motion at a very low velocity, gears are gaining importance as the most efficient means for transmitting power. A gearing system is susceptible to problems such as interference, backlash and undercut. The contact portions of tooth profiles that are not conjugate is called interference. Furthermore due to interference and in the absence of undercut, the involute tip or face of the driven gear tends to dig out the non-involute flank of the driver. The response of a spur gear and its wear is an engineering problem that has not been completely overcome yet. With the perspective of overcoming such defects and for increase the efficiency of gearing system, the use of a non-standard spur gear i.e., an asymmetric spur gear having different pressure angles for drive and coast side of the tooth comes into picture. This paper emphasis on the generation of an asymmetric spur gear tooth using modeling software and bending stress at the root of Asymmetric spur gear tooth is estimated by finite element analysis using ANSYS software and results were compared with the standard spur gear tooth. Generally automotive systems are subjected to dynam ic and static loads, due to hives driving and adverse conditions of the road surface, thus it causes cracks, noise, vibration and failure in an automobile, since in general the total effect of work for automobile system is lowered. Such effect is arising due to behaviour in types of loading, construction and condition of the work where the automobile system is and reducing it s strength. Therefore however most of the Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) chassis are man ufactured by welding to reduce the weight of the chassis. Hence there is a more stress concentration occurs at a welded joint region. The fundamental task is to develop a model of welded joint to sustain various loads of LCV chassis. Effect of different design parameters, properties of material are observed with respect to the strength of the weld and location of stress concentrations are identified. During the design process model parameters are often alter ed to evaluate alternative welding joining choices,to reduce weight of the system to sustain varying loading conditions without failure.
MODELING, ANALYZING AND SAFETY ASPECTS OF TORSION AND NOISE EFFECTS ON ROUND ...msejjournal
Each material has its own effect and behavior on external impacts like heat, force, tension, compression, torsion etc. It is important to study and analyze these behaviors before selecting a material for an engineering application in the design aspects itself. If predicted values analyzed by both mathematical and software are available it is easy to get the reliable details in the pre design itself. By this one can ensure the safety of the component and the system also. In this investigation, the effects of torsional loads on mild steel
round shafts with various diameters and lengths have been analyzed. The additional effects like angle of rotation, rpm and duration also considered to find the optimum predicted value. The data observed by various experiments are analyzed by design of experiments especially by response surface methodology. Minitab software is used for canalization. The data are tabulated and kept for future reference. Noise effect
due to the gradual torsional load performed in the gear box and other rotating components is also studied for healthy working environment. The nature and characteristics of material also be explained by this noise analysis.

A study on the mechanical properties of s45 c medium type carbon steel specim...eSAT Journals
Abstract The experimental process is a fundamental technique used to determine the nature and behavior of many materials under study. In order to evaluate the fundamental properties of many engineering materials the use of mechanical testing techniques frequently play a crucial role. The development of new materials and the control of material quality are essential in the process of design and in their usage for industrial applications and construction. In this experiment, there were 2 sets (5 samples each) of medium type steel specimens S45C of 0.45% carbon content that were rigorously prepared according to ASTM standards under specific varied parameters. These parameters include the machining cutter speeds on the lathe machine and the mediums selected and temperatures set for the quenching process on the steel specimens in order to affect their overall microstructure. The specimens were then subjected to aggregate mechanical loading using a conventional tensile testing machine. The consequential effect of material structure metamorphosis under the selected quenching techniques was ultimately not part of the study as it involves microscopic analysis of grain boundaries and high-end precision equipment would be necessary to do any significant material analysis. The results of the experiment suggest that the macroscopic (not microscopic) effect of the lathe machining speeds do not significantly affect the tensile material strength of the S45 medium carbon steel specimen. Thus, the mediums and temperatures selected for the quenching process on the specimens had a marginal but significant effect on the elevated levels of tensile mechanical strength and strain of medium type carbon steel. Keywords: mechanical properties, carbon steel, lathe machine, S45C, quenching process, tensile test, stress, strain.

DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF AXIAL CROSSING OF WORK ROLLS IN ROLLING MILL WORK ROLL...IAEME Publication
Rolling Mill is one of the machine for rolling steel or other metal into sheets. For reliable and efficient working of rolling mill it is necessary that all the components used in rolling mill should work properly without fail. Work roll assembly is very important part of the rolling mill. It has been observed that In hot rolling mill during the metal rolling at finishing mill (4-Hi mill Reversible) , work roll pair come out due to the axial crossing of work rolls and due to which uneven thickness of metal, strip breakage, bending of locking plate, metal shifting and equipment breakdown occurs. After the Study it has been observed that wear of the work roll liner is one of the reasons for the axial crossing of the work rolls.

The Study of Premature Failure of Springs Used In Railway CoachesIOSR Journals
The springs used in the bogie suspension of railway coaches are compression springs. They are
made of an elastic wire material formed into the shape of a helix. They are commonly referred to as a coil
spring or a helical spring. They are used to store energy and subsequently release it to absorb shock or to
maintain a force between contact surfaces. The spring returns to its natural length or position when unloaded.
Springs used in railway coaches have been failing prematurely much before their intended service life. The
springs are made with quality materials. Before being put to service, the springs are tested with extensive Non
Destructive Testing Methods which are approved by ISO standards to make sure that quality parts are used.
However the springs still fail before their service life ends
Automobile Management System Project Report.pdfKamal Acharya
The proposed project is developed to manage the automobile in the automobile dealer company. The main module in this project is login, automobile management, customer management, sales, complaints and reports. The first module is the login. The automobile showroom owner should login to the project for usage. The username and password are verified and if it is correct, next form opens. If the username and password are not correct, it shows the error message.
When a customer search for a automobile, if the automobile is available, they will be taken to a page that shows the details of the automobile including automobile name, automobile ID, quantity, price etc. “Automobile Management System” is useful for maintaining automobiles, customers effectively and hence helps for establishing good relation between customer and automobile organization. It contains various customized modules for effectively maintaining automobiles and stock information accurately and safely.
When the automobile is sold to the customer, stock will be reduced automatically. When a new purchase is made, stock will be increased automatically. While selecting automobiles for sale, the proposed software will automatically check for total number of available stock of that particular item, if the total stock of that particular item is less than 5, software will notify the user to purchase the particular item.
Also when the user tries to sale items which are not in stock, the system will prompt the user that the stock is not enough. Customers of this system can search for a automobile; can purchase a automobile easily by selecting fast. On the other hand the stock of automobiles can be maintained perfectly by the automobile shop manager overcoming the drawbacks of existing system.
