This document discusses various methods for customer segmentation through analysis of massive customer transaction data, including K-Means clustering, PAM clustering, agglomerative clustering, divisive clustering, and density-based clustering. It finds that K-Means is the most commonly used partitioning method. The document also reviews related work on customer segmentation and clustering algorithms like CLARA, CLARANS, BIRCH, ROCK, CHAMELEON, CURE, DHCC, DBSCAN, and LOF. It proposes a framework for an online shopping site that would apply these techniques to group customers based on their product preferences in transaction data.
Clustering is also known as data segmentation aims to partitions data set into groups, clusters, according to their similarity. Cluster analysis has been extensively studied in many researches. There are many algorithms for different types of clustering. These classical algorithms can't be applied on big data due to its distinct features. It is a challenge to apply the traditional techniques on large unstructured data. This study proposes a hybrid model to cluster big data using the famous traditional K-means clustering algorithm. The proposed model consists of three phases namely; Mapper phase, Clustering Phase and Reduce phase. The first phase uses map-reduce algorithm to split big data into small datasets. Whereas, the second phase implements the traditional clustering K-means algorithm on each of the spitted small data sets. The last phase is responsible of producing the general clusters output of the complete data set. Two functions, Mode and Fuzzy Gaussian, have been implemented and compared at the last phase to determine the most suitable one. The experimental study used four benchmark big data sets; Covtype, Covtype-2, Poker, and Poker-2. The results proved the efficiency of the proposed model in clustering big data using the traditional K-means algorithm. Also, the experiments show that the Fuzzy Gaussian function produces more accurate results than the traditional Mode function.
Ensemble based Distributed K-Modes ClusteringIJERD Editor
Clustering has been recognized as the unsupervised classification of data items into groups. Due to the explosion in the number of autonomous data sources, there is an emergent need for effective approaches in distributed clustering. The distributed clustering algorithm is used to cluster the distributed datasets without gathering all the data in a single site. The K-Means is a popular clustering method owing to its simplicity and speed in clustering large datasets. But it fails to handle directly the datasets with categorical attributes which are generally occurred in real life datasets. Huang proposed the K-Modes clustering algorithm by introducing a new dissimilarity measure to cluster categorical data. This algorithm replaces means of clusters with a frequency based method which updates modes in the clustering process to minimize the cost function. Most of the distributed clustering algorithms found in the literature seek to cluster numerical data. In this paper, a novel Ensemble based Distributed K-Modes clustering algorithm is proposed, which is well suited to handle categorical data sets as well as to perform distributed clustering process in an asynchronous manner. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with the existing distributed K-Means clustering algorithms, and K-Modes based Centralized Clustering algorithm. The experiments are carried out for various datasets of UCI machine learning data repository.

K-MEDOIDS CLUSTERING USING PARTITIONING AROUND MEDOIDS FOR PERFORMING FACE R...ijscmc
Face recognition is one of the most unobtrusive biometric techniques that can be used for access control as well as surveillance purposes. Various methods for implementing face recognition have been proposed with varying degrees of performance in different scenarios. The most common issue with effective facial biometric systems is high susceptibility of variations in the face owing to different factors like changes in pose, varying illumination, different expression, presence of outliers, noise etc. This paper explores a novel technique for face recognition by performing classification of the face images using unsupervised learning approach through K-Medoids clustering. Partitioning Around Medoids algorithm (PAM) has been used for performing K-Medoids clustering of the data. The results are suggestive of increased robustness to noise and outliers in comparison to other clustering methods. Therefore the technique can also be used to increase the overall robustness of a face recognition system and thereby increase its invariance and make it a reliably usable biometric modality

COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF RNSC AND MCL ALGORITHMS ON POWER-LAW DIST...acijjournal
Cluster analysis of graph related problems is an important issue now-a-day. Different types of graph
clustering techniques are appeared in the field but most of them are vulnerable in terms of effectiveness
and fragmentation of output in case of real-world applications in diverse systems. In this paper, we will
provide a comparative behavioural analysis of RNSC (Restricted Neighbourhood Search Clustering) and
MCL (Markov Clustering) algorithms on Power-Law Distribution graphs. RNSC is a graph clustering
technique using stochastic local search. RNSC algorithm tries to achieve optimal cost clustering by
assigning some cost functions to the set of clusterings of a graph. This algorithm was implemented by A.
D. King only for undirected and unweighted random graphs. Another popular graph clustering
algorithm MCL is based on stochastic flow simulation model for weighted graphs. There are plentiful
applications of power-law or scale-free graphs in nature and society. Scale-free topology is stochastic i.e.
nodes are connected in a random manner. Complex network topologies like World Wide Web, the web of
human sexual contacts, or the chemical network of a cell etc., are basically following power-law
distribution to represent different real-life systems. This paper uses real large-scale power-law
distribution graphs to conduct the performance analysis of RNSC behaviour compared with Markov
clustering (MCL) algorithm. Extensive experimental results on several synthetic and real power-law
distribution datasets reveal the effectiveness of our approach to comparative performance measure of
these algorithms on the basis of cost of clustering, cluster size, modularity index of clustering results and
normalized mutual information (NMI).

Clustering of high dimensionality data which can be seen in almost all fields these days is becoming
very tedious process. The key disadvantage of high dimensional data which we can pen down is curse
of dimensionality. As the magnitude of datasets grows the data points become sparse and density of
area becomes less making it difficult to cluster that data which further reduces the performance of
traditional algorithms used for clustering. Semi-supervised clustering algorithms aim to improve
clustering results using limited supervision. The supervision is generally given as pair wise
constraints; such constraints are natural for graphs, yet most semi-supervised clustering algorithms are
designed for data represented as vectors [2]. In this paper, we unify vector-based and graph-based
approaches. We first show that a recently-proposed objective function for semi-supervised clustering
based on Hidden Markov Random Fields, with squared Euclidean distance and a certain class of
constraint penalty functions, can be expressed as a special case of the global kernel k-means objective
[3]. A recent theoretical connection between global kernel k-means and several graph clustering
objectives enables us to perform semi-supervised clustering of data. In particular, some methods have
been proposed for semi supervised clustering based on pair wise similarity or dissimilarity
information. In this paper, we propose a kernel approach for semi supervised clustering and present in
detail two special cases of this kernel approach.
A PSO-Based Subtractive Data Clustering AlgorithmIJORCS
There is a tremendous proliferation in the amount of information available on the largest shared information source, the World Wide Web. Fast and high-quality clustering algorithms play an important role in helping users to effectively navigate, summarize, and organize the information. Recent studies have shown that partitional clustering algorithms such as the k-means algorithm are the most popular algorithms for clustering large datasets. The major problem with partitional clustering algorithms is that they are sensitive to the selection of the initial partitions and are prone to premature converge to local optima. Subtractive clustering is a fast, one-pass algorithm for estimating the number of clusters and cluster centers for any given set of data. The cluster estimates can be used to initialize iterative optimization-based clustering methods and model identification methods. In this paper, we present a hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization, Subtractive + (PSO) clustering algorithm that performs fast clustering. For comparison purpose, we applied the Subtractive + (PSO) clustering algorithm, PSO, and the Subtractive clustering algorithms on three different datasets. The results illustrate that the Subtractive + (PSO) clustering algorithm can generate the most compact clustering results as compared to other algorithms.

Fuzzy clustering and fuzzy c-means partition cluster analysis and validation ...IJECEIAES
A hard partition clustering algorithm assigns equally distant points to one of the clusters, where each datum has the probability to appear in simultaneous assignment to further clusters. The fuzzy cluster analysis assigns membership coefficients of data points which are equidistant between two clusters so the information directs have a place toward in excess of one cluster in the meantime. For a subset of CiteScore dataset, fuzzy clustering (fanny) and fuzzy c-means (fcm) algorithms were implemented to study the data points that lie equally distant from each other. Before analysis, clusterability of the dataset was evaluated with Hopkins statistic which resulted in 0.4371, a value < 0.5, indicating that the data is highly clusterable. The optimal clusters were determined using NbClust package, where it is evidenced that 9 various indices proposed 3 cluster solutions as best clusters. Further, appropriate value of fuzziness parameter m was evaluated to determine the distribution of membership values with variation in m from 1 to 2. Coefficient of variation (CV), also known as relative variability was evaluated to study the spread of data. The time complexity of fuzzy clustering (fanny) and fuzzy c-means algorithms were evaluated by keeping data points constant and varying number of clusters.

ESTIMATING PROJECT DEVELOPMENT EFFORT USING CLUSTERED REGRESSION APPROACHcscpconf
Due to the intangible nature of “software”, accurate and reliable software effort estimation is a challenge in the software Industry. It is unlikely to expect very accurate estimates of software
development effort because of the inherent uncertainty in software development projects and the complex and dynamic interaction of factors that impact software development. Heterogeneity exists in the software engineering datasets because data is made available from diverse sources.
This can be reduced by defining certain relationship between the data values by classifying them into different clusters. This study focuses on how the combination of clustering and
regression techniques can reduce the potential problems in effectiveness of predictive efficiency due to heterogeneity of the data. Using a clustered approach creates the subsets of data having a degree of homogeneity that enhances prediction accuracy. It was also observed in this study that ridge regression performs better than other regression techniques used in the analysis.

A SURVEY ON OPTIMIZATION APPROACHES TO TEXT DOCUMENT CLUSTERINGijcsa
Text Document Clustering is one of the fastest growing research areas because of availability of huge amount of information in an electronic form. There are several number of techniques launched for clustering documents in such a way that documents within a cluster have high intra-similarity and low inter-similarity to other clusters. Many document clustering algorithms provide localized search in effectively navigating, summarizing, and organizing information. A global optimal solution can be obtained by applying high-speed and high-quality optimization algorithms. The optimization technique performs a globalized search in the entire solution space. In this paper, a brief survey on optimization approaches to text document clustering is turned out.
A Novel Approach for Clustering Big Data based on MapReduce IJECEIAES
Clustering is one of the most important applications of data mining. It has attracted attention of researchers in statistics and machine learning. It is used in many applications like information retrieval, image processing and social network analytics etc. It helps the user to understand the similarity and dissimilarity between objects. Cluster analysis makes the users understand complex and large data sets more clearly. There are different types of clustering algorithms analyzed by various researchers. Kmeans is the most popular partitioning based algorithm as it provides good results because of accurate calculation on numerical data. But Kmeans give good results for numerical data only. Big data is combination of numerical and categorical data. Kprototype algorithm is used to deal with numerical as well as categorical data. Kprototype combines the distance calculated from numeric and categorical data. With the growth of data due to social networking websites, business transactions, scientific calculation etc., there is vast collection of structured, semi-structured and unstructured data. So, there is need of optimization of Kprototype so that these varieties of data can be analyzed efficiently. In this work, Kprototype algorithm is implemented on MapReduce in this paper. Experiments have proved that Kprototype implemented on Mapreduce gives better performance gain on multiple nodes as compared to single node. CPU execution time and speedup are used as evaluation metrics for comparison.Intellegent splitter is proposed in this paper which splits mixed big data into numerical and categorical data. Comparison with traditional algorithms proves that proposed algorithm works better for large scale of data.

Comparison Between Clustering Algorithms for Microarray Data AnalysisIOSR Journals
Currently, there are two techniques used for large-scale gene-expression profiling; microarray and
RNA-Sequence (RNA-Seq).This paper is intended to study and compare different clustering algorithms that used
in microarray data analysis. Microarray is a DNA molecules array which allows multiple hybridization
experiments to be carried out simultaneously and trace expression levels of thousands of genes. It is a highthroughput
technology for gene expression analysis and becomes an effective tool for biomedical research.
Microarray analysis aims to interpret the data produced from experiments on DNA, RNA, and protein
microarrays, which enable researchers to investigate the expression state of a large number of genes. Data
clustering represents the first and main process in microarray data analysis. The k-means, fuzzy c-mean, selforganizing
map, and hierarchical clustering algorithms are under investigation in this paper. These algorithms
are compared based on their clustering model.
A h k clustering algorithm for high dimensional data using ensemble learningijitcs
Advances made to the traditional clustering algorithms solves the various problems such as curse of
dimensionality and sparsity of data for multiple attributes. The traditional H-K clustering algorithm can
solve the randomness and apriority of the initial centers of K-means clustering algorithm. But when we
apply it to high dimensional data it causes the dimensional disaster problem due to high computational
complexity. All the advanced clustering algorithms like subspace and ensemble clustering algorithms
improve the performance for clustering high dimension dataset from different aspects in different extent.
Still these algorithms will improve the performance form a single perspective. The objective of the
proposed model is to improve the performance of traditional H-K clustering and overcome the limitations
such as high computational complexity and poor accuracy for high dimensional data by combining the
three different approaches of clustering algorithm as subspace clustering algorithm and ensemble
clustering algorithm with H-K clustering algorithm.
Clustering in Aggregated User Profiles across Multiple Social Networks IJECEIAES
A social network is indeed an abstraction of related groups interacting amongst themselves to develop relationships. However, toanalyze any relationships and psychology behind it, clustering plays a vital role. Clustering enhances the predictability and discoveryof like mindedness amongst users. This article’s goal exploits the technique of Ensemble Kmeans clusters to extract the entities and their corresponding interestsas per the skills and location by aggregating user profiles across the multiple online social networks. The proposed ensemble clustering utilizes known K-means algorithm to improve results for the aggregated user profiles across multiple social networks. The approach produces an ensemble similarity measure and provides 70% better results than taking a fixed value of K or guessing a value of K while not altering the clustering method. This paper states that good ensembles clusters can be spawned to envisage the discoverability of a user for a particular interest.
Clustering Using Shared Reference Points Algorithm Based On a Sound Data ModelWaqas Tariq
A novel clustering algorithm CSHARP is presented for the purpose of finding clusters of arbitrary shapes and arbitrary densities in high dimensional feature spaces. It can be considered as a variation of the Shared Nearest Neighbor algorithm (SNN), in which each sample data point votes for the points in its k-nearest neighborhood. Sets of points sharing a common mutual nearest neighbor are considered as dense regions/ blocks. These blocks are the seeds from which clusters may grow up. Therefore, CSHARP is not a point-to-point clustering algorithm. Rather, it is a block-to-block clustering technique. Much of its advantages come from these facts: Noise points and outliers correspond to blocks of small sizes, and homogeneous blocks highly overlap. This technique is not prone to merge clusters of different densities or different homogeneity. The algorithm has been applied to a variety of low and high dimensional data sets with superior results over existing techniques such as DBScan, K-means, Chameleon, Mitosis and Spectral Clustering. The quality of its results as well as its time complexity, rank it at the front of these techniques.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!

This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.
