Human Overpopulation, Ocean Acidification, And Pollution
People may believe that the most important environmental issues threatening our world would be
human overpopulation, ocean acidification, and pollution. However we are forgetting how important
every environmental issue is to our planet and the humans that populate it. Ozone depletion affects
both the planet and the people. It is a very serious environmental issue that if not solved can cost us
some serious loss. The depletion of our ozone layers and the creation of the ozone hole has occurred
since the 1980 s, and it s only getting worst. The ozone layer is a form of oxygen in the molecular
form of O3. It is an unstable gas with a pungent odour, it is bluish and it is located in two parts of the
atmosphere: the stratosphere and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ozone layer in the troposphere is formed from reactions between volatile organic compounds
(VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOX) . These layers are vital for the formation of weather and
distribution of radiation. Without the ozone our world would be dead and have no life, just a radiated
pile of rock.
The ozone hole is a region of the ozone layer that is thinning. This hole is as big as the USA and is
located over Antarctica. The depletion of the ozone layer in Antarctic takes place there because of the
atmospheric conditions that occurs no other place in the world. Because the temperatures during the
winter is extremely low, polar stratospheric clouds form. Polar Stratospheric are located in the
stratosphere over Antarctica and the Arctic. They also convert forms of chlorine monoxide which are
man made pollutants that get trapped in these clouds. These clouds account for the deterioration of the
ozone around Antarctica and helps in the growth of the ozone hole. The ozone hole is also caused by
gases called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) from cars, etc.
Halons (brominated fluorocarbons) also have a major effect of the formation of the hole and they can
destroy up to 10 times as much ozone as CFCs can. These gases are found in spray cans, refrigerators,
air conditioners, fire extinguishers, etc.
The ozone layer is essential to both plant and animal survival on

Red Flour Beetles Lab
INTRODUCTION In this lab, the class discovered the effects of different substrates and stimuli on red
flour beetles. Red flour beetles eat flour and other grains and the female beetle deposits her eggs on
flour, cereal, dry pet food, or other similar products. The larvae hatch and then begin to eat the
material around them. In the article Patch exploitation by Tribolium castaneum: Movement patterns,
distribution, and oviposition , it says that most of the activity from red flour beetles is spent in food
sources (Campbell and Hagstrum). There are many factors that affect the red flour beetles ability to
survive or reproduce, like temperature, food source, stress, and genetics (Biology 159). In Humidity
Reactions of Tribolium Castaneum (Herbst) , it states that red flour beetles are attracted to different
substrates due to their nutritional levels and moisture level of the substrate (Willis and Roth). ... Show

The first hypothesis for this lab is that, if red flour beetles are placed in the center of a dish with wheat
flour on one side and white flour on the other, then more beetles will go to their preferred substrate.
Our prediction is that the white flour side will occupy more red flour beetles than the oat flour side of
the dish because that is the preferred substrate. The null hypothesis is that there will be no preference
between the two substrates. The second hypothesis for this lab is that, when red flour beetles are
placed in the center of the petri dish with sugar on one side and white flour on the other, then more
beetles will go to the preferred substrate. Our prediction is that the white flour side, again, will be the
preferred substrate and occupy more red flour beetles. The null hypothesis is that there will be no
preference between the two

Eating Disorders Program Analysis
Eating disorders have long been a problem in the United States. Most fail to grasp the severity until
someone close to them experiences the difficulties. Personally, I realized the prevalence of eating
disorders when several children endeared to me commented that they feel too fat or skipped meals in
order to not become obese. Instead of a teenage friend at school that one would assume, younger
children that range from seven to ten years of age made these comments. Realizing the problem, I
decided that I would create a program that would educate younger children regarding the seriousness
and effects of eating disorders. Before designing the program, I researched for weeks in order to find
facts and statistics concerning eating disorders in the United States. The research proved that disorders
begin in children as young as age seven or eight. Additionally, pre teenagers predominantly suffer
from eating disorders. The research also showed that countless victims remain unnoticed due to a
reluctance to tell an adult. Peers lack the education to recognize a presented disorder. In order to curb
the problem, pre teens need to be taught how to identify a disorder and how to aid a friend. To educate
the pre teens, I developed a program called I Like Me Because. The program involves an interactive
slideshow that highlights the symptoms, signs, causes, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I have given the presentation multiple times to various age groups. Following the slideshow portion of

The Class Sequence Could Be Improved
The class sequence could be improved. Some of the classes seemed, either out of sequence or the
information provided would have been better understood if presented first in another class. I believe
Ofc. Marlin tried to sequence these better but had difficulty with coordinating the schedules of the
instructors. When possible, give the training a higher priority and schedule early enough to minimize
last minute changes. This would benefit the training, the students, and Ofc. Marlin. Toward the end of
the academy, it seemed Ofc. Marlin was struggling to complete all class requirements before
graduation. The Personal Safety and Defense, as with some of the other topics, was apportioned
throughout the training. This was good and allowed for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am greatly appreciative of both sections this practical training. It was good to have the General
Order, Special Order, and other regulatory organization presented early. The general concept of state
laws, arrests, and violations was early but it would have been helpful to have had the legal class
around the same time. When presented, the legal class was very lawyerly ; meaning somewhat dry and
rote. A little more discussion might have been helpful. Public Speaking was a good class. It adequately
presented the necessary information and allowed us an opportunity to practice in class. Detective
Shirley and Office Yates did a good team job in the presentation. Interpersonal Communication was
also a good class. Ofc. Jones did a good job on the presentation. I m not sure why he presented this
information twice. Verbal Judo was a very important class and Detective Richardson presented it well.
This information was also adequately covered in the test/evaluations. As in Personal Safety and
Defense, several sessions covered report writing. This is good because it allowed for some of the
lessons to sink in before adding more information. Sgt Patrick presented the topic very well. The
computer skills training were very minimal. I suggest a significant bit of more time be included to
cover some of the other programs we will encounter. KYOPS and collision investigation and reporting

Ways People Are Alike Analysis
People go through life thinking that they understand every person, every situation, and every lifestyle.
The fact of the matter is, nobody understands what anyone is going through unless they have
experienced it themselves. As children we are taught that everyone is equal and that we should treat
each other as such. I am very fortunate to have grown up with the most amazing and supportive
parents who had always found a way to make sure I was happy and healthy. Even though not everyone
had the same experiences I did, as a child I thought that everyone had both parents and always got the
new toy or had new clothes for school because I thought that everyone being equal meant that
everyone was as well taken care of as I was. Now obviously as I ve grown up I have realized how
amazingly lucky I am to be so blessed, and that not everyone is as lucky. I feel like trying to
understand how other people feel during certain situations would be very hard because I have never
had anything really that bad happen in my life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also feel like trying to pretend like I would know how they felt or to try and tell someone else that
they weren t having the correct reaction to something would be rude and disrespectful because I would
never fully understand how a situation had affected them. People are always trying to feel empathy for
others, which makes sense, but trying to say that you understand what someone has gone through is
not fair for the affected person. Many people judge others based on their looks, or how much money
they have, or how they deal with certain situations, and I believe that it is not fair for anyone to judge
someone else, ever, but especially on how they handled something because you have no idea how it
really affected

Alexander The Great Motives
In the book The Classical World: an Epic History of Greece and Rome by Robin Lane Fox, the
remarkable conquest of Alexander the Great is explained. After Philip, the king of Macedon, was
murdered in the most brutal way, his son Alexander was declared king. Evident in The Classical world
as it states; ...succeeded his murdered father in 336 five years later, aged twenty five...incomparably
richer than anyone known in previous Greek history (Lane Fox, para 1, 230). His significant motives
lead to great outcomes demonstrated by the luxurious life that prepared Alexander the Great, the role
and parental belief in a god, followed by his wish to succeed more than his father motivated Alexander
to become Alexander the Great. A Macedonian king s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alexander felt the need to work harder than his father and bring his wish to be better and become
remarkable (Lane Fox, para 9, 235). Alexander and his father did not have a good relationship:
Alexander wanted to surpass his father and be known for who he was dependently. Even though the
father and son relationship was not the best, Alexander knew his father and the strong army his father
had built and throughout his journey, Alexander used the army and the battle tactics that his father had
left behind Alexander s crack troops were Philip s Shield bearers, hardened infantry who savaged the
Indian armies and their elephants, even when many of them, Philip s recruits, were already over sixty
years old (Lane Fox, para 4, p 231). Alexander became successful throughout his battles conquering
many countries with the army that had been left behind by his father. Finally, in the book The
Classical World: an Epic History of Greece and Rome Alexander s motives that shaped his remarkable
life are described by Robin Lane Fox. He became a Macedonian king who was raised to become a
king, his role model Achilles that pushed Alexander to succeed, and the bad relationship with his
father that made him want to do better. Alexander the Great inspires others to be superior through the

Who Is The Father Figure In Huckleberry Finn
A father figure is a crucial element in the moral development of a young boy. In The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, the main character, Huck, has not one but two fathers in his life. He
has his real dad, Pap, and a slave he befriends, Jim. Even though Pap is Huck s biological father, he is
not the best influence. Both men have extensive influence on Huck s development as a person.
Through his actions, it is evident that Jim is more of a father to Huck than Pap. First off, Huck s
biological father, Pap Finn, is not exactly the best father in the world. Pap not only is a substandard
father, he is also a substandard person. He is an alcoholic, is always drunk, is tremendously racist, and
is abusive to Huck. In fact, Huck

The Role Of The Senate In The Roman Empire
This extensive system of administration underwent a change when the Republic transitioned into an
Empire. Then an emperor was at the top and below him came the patrician class, which held the
administrative power. An example that shows the role of the Senate is: Senators during the Republic
held the greatest power in the Roman state. They had many responsibilities, such as governing of all
of Rome s finances, making critical decisions about deploying the military, guiding all the diplomatic
missions and engaging in commerce or investing in the trade. (Roman Republic and Empire VOL.3 /
Pg. 198) As it can be seen from the quote, the Senate was an institution that ran the whole Republic.
Its social status was immense. They provided an effective ruling of the state and although, they didn t
create the laws (consuls did), the senators ensured consistency, which was a needed element in a
democracy. This ensured that the consuls and senators had their own position, and only one can rule
over the other. Later, with the gradual establishment of the Empire, the role of the Senate weakened.
Still, during that time the emperor sometimes looked up to the Senate for making appropriate
decisions, concerning the empire. Another example shows the complex system of Cursus Honorum.
Praetors: the praetorship was one of the most powerful offices in the Roman Republic, second only to
the consulship. Urban praetors became increasingly responsible for law courts. During the empire they

A Personal Assessment Of Dasani, The Invisible Child Essay
Introduction This paper will be the second personal assessment of Dasani, the invisible child, through
four different theories. These theories include Fowler s Stages of Faith Development, Stimulation
Theories, Control Theories and the Practice Orientation versus Culture of Poverty. Each theory will be
broken down into it s own section of synopsis and then assessment of Dasani to give a better
understanding of her spiritual and cultural dimensions and her physical environment.
Fowler s Stages of Faith Development Synopsis James Fowler developed his stages of faith after
conduction in depth interviews of 359 people. The sample subjects were predominately white, with
equal numbers of males and females and included a wide range of ages, from three and a half to 84
years old. Fowler s interviews consisted of 30 plus questions regarding the subject s life experiences,
relationships, values, commitments and religion. After analyzing the responses, Fowler placed each
subject in one of six faith stages. The responses indicated that as the subject s age increased, so did
their stage of faith (Hutchison, 2015). Fowler saw faith as greater than religious faith and viewed it as
a universal aspect of human existence (Hutchison, 2015). The ultimate environment is an important
element of Fowler s theory. He saw faith as not only an internal image but also how one relates to that
image. Faith is not an unchangeable image or idea, but a way of being. The six stages of

Tutankhamun s Phenomenon Analysis
In addition to this there is also an incredible amount of other primary resources that raise suspicion
and seem to prove this theory. Such as Tutankhamun s rushed tomb. It was extremely small meaning
chunks had to be cut out of the wall to fit his sarcophagus into the chamber. Within his sarcophagus, (a
large stone container that holds Tutankhamun s coffins,) there are also many other small things we
notice that have brought us great suspicion. Much like Tutankhamun s last coffin which held his
mummified body. The coffins face appeared extremely different to any other image of King Tut we
have seen before. After running a test, Dr. Amit Roy Chowdhury found that the coffins face actually
matches that of Queen Nefertiti more than it matches King

An Analysis Of Woolworths Australia Digital Marketing...
An Analysis of Woolworths Australia Digital Marketing Strategy Analyzing the Business Decision
Woolworths Limited is an Australian retail company. Judging by market share and sales, Woolworths
is the largest food and liquor retailer in Australia. The first store was opened on Friday, 5 December
1924, and today Woolworths operates 1000 stores around Australia. Perishable Pundit (2013) writes
that from the beginning, Woolworths used daily newspapers to advertise. In 1937 they decided to use
the relatively new medium of radio sponsoring an evening program called Rhythm Round up on
Station 2GB, Sydney. (p. 5). Woolworths is credited with giving Jack Davey his first major break in
radio. In 2012, Woolworths won the Online Retail Industry Award (ORIA). Grant O Brien, Managing
Director and CEO of Woolworths is quoted as saying: We are on the cusp of exciting change in retail
as we enter the new era where the customer is in charge. But far from being daunted by change, I
firmly believe it brings opportunity for our business, our employees, our suppliers and of course, our
customers. You just have to look for that opportunity. Woolworths is leading this shopping revolution
in Australia and there s a lot more opportunity still to be realised. What does this mean? 2 years later,
can we still say that Woolworths is leading the shopping revolution in Australia? Woolworths website

Isolation And Social Isolation
Canada s aging population is growing. One of the number one emerging issue facing seniors is social
isolation. Statistics Canada s 2008/09 Canadian Community Health Survey found that 19% of
individuals aged 65 or over felt a lack of companionship, left out, or isolated from others (National
Seniors Council, 2014). Social isolation is not the same as loneliness. It is a form of emotion that
makes people depression. Social isolation impacts on seniors quality of life, mental and physical
health. To reduce the social isolation is the way seniors are connected socially. For example, there are
exercise programs and community engaged art programs for the elderly in the community. This
program is effective for seniors physical and mental health. Although such programs have beneficial
effects on seniors health, some studies argue that there are barriers to reducing the social isolation of
older people in such programs. Community programs and community participation programs benefit
from the seniors physical, emotional and social well being. The purpose of the Community exercise
program is a socialization based exercise program to improve the seniors health. Community arts
programs aim to promote optimal health for seniors. However, it is difficult to reduce the social
isolation without using these objectives potentially.

Analysis on Behind the Veil by Dhu’l Nun Ayyoub Essay
In the short story From Behind the Veil, written by Dhu l Nun Ayyoub, the author changes how we
feel about the main character throughout the sequencing of the plot. We as the readers learn more
about how the protagonist really thinks coupled with what her motives are. The author also presents
language that clearly expresses how the protagonist feels and uses examples to show an overall theme
in the story. In the exposition we meet our protagonist who is a young women of Islam who wears the
traditional veil that muslim women are advised to wear under the law of the Quran were it says, And
tell the believing women to reduce some of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose
their adornment except that which necessarily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an interesting exception to the stereotypical and usual relationship between a Muslim man and
woman. Usually the man would have the majority of power in the relationship, but the protagonist has
made the relationship on her terms only. We also learn from the narrator that the protagonist has a
strong disposition. We can conclude that she seems to exude some power . We also learn that her
father thinks highly of her and feels that she is intelligent , well brought up , and obviously knows the
value of traditions and respects them. In the climax, we start to have a very different view of our
protagonist. We learn that she might not be as genuine as we think she is. The climax is after her father
reads the newspaper article a man submitted about a woman who revealed herself to him. She goes to
her room and talks to her veil stating that she despises the veil, how she uses it only to keep men away
from her, she doesn t care about her veil at all, she feels nothing for it, she defies it, and how she feels
that other women say they wear the veil to preserve their virginity, honor, and good morals, but if they
were honest about why they wore the veil it would be for no reason but to cover their flaws and
scandals. This is extremely surprising to the reader because from what we thought of her before she
was a girl who wore the veil as a symbol of good morals when

Rewards
Rewards
Companies reward their employees with both tangible goods, as well as praise. For example, a sales
department may offer a monthly bonus to the highest earner. Not all tangible rewards come in the form
of money. Some companies host free lunches, or give away company gear to good workers. Many
managers choose to reward their best employees by simply praising them for a job well done, or by
recognizing the hard work they put in to a project.
Workplace reward systems are incentive programs that encourage employee engagement and
productivity by offering bonuses, increased pay, additional time off or other awards for a job well
done. Reward systems recognize staff members who excel in areas such as customer service, loyalty
and sales ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The appreciation of those skills can be a greater motivator than any reward or threat.
Employees need direction. A flaw with consequence based leadership styles is that it doesn t tell
employees how to succeed. It tells them they must succeed, but not how to do so. That doesn t mean
that transactional leadership doesn t work. It just means that employees still need some direction from
above. When leaders are more involved, employees know they can count on them to provide a
direction.
Transactional leadership can encourage unethical behavior. When in their best interest, employees can
resort to unethical means to achieve results. The temptation of rewards and fear of consequences is
compelling. It can encourage deception or illegal activity. Employees may sabotage the company s
interests in pursuit of their own. As a precaution, businesses need to be clear on the terms employees
must work under. Employees are also less likely to resort to unethical behavior when their leaders are
able to earn their loyalty.
This is not to say that transactional leadership does not work. Rewards and punishments are great tools
to motivate. However, they may be far more effective when combined with other leadership styles and
motivation tools. Making employees feel included can provide greater motivation and overall
satisfaction.
The transactional style has always been effective. It has also been overused by many companies.
Employees can be more

Prejudice In Zootopia
How does Zootopia explore a variety of important themes?
Zootopia, from the largest to the smallest, from the vicious to the innocent, Zootopia is an infested
mammal massacre where all animals thrive and live in harmony. The concept? A world without
humans, where predators and prey have learned to interact and create a city featuring sections built to
accommodate different animals and lifestyles. This Disney hit doesn t disappoint when it comes to
exploring deep, demon like predicaments that come with proclaiming Zootopia as home. This one hit
wonder displays an attention grabbing plot which aids the viewer to picture a brand new view point of
the positive and negative impacts that stereotypes, discrimination and prejudice have on the characters
in Zootopia. Stereotyping can be seen as a widely held image or idea of a particular type of person or
thing. Likewise, discrimination is to treat someone poorly due to their race, age or sex.
Similarly, prejudice is preconceiving negative opinions about someone without any actual reasoning.
In the movie of Zootopia, many themes are explored including stereotypes and by the end of the
movie, many of them turn out to be misrepresented.
A large amount of stereotypes were displayed in Zootopia. These were usually based on someone s
appearance, social status or even their animal group.
Judy Hopps was often stereotyped in the movie and a memorable scene took place in Judy Hopps s
home BunnyBurrow. Judy had just finished performing a

Essay on Satire in Voltaire s Candide
Use of Satire in Voltaire s Candide
Voltaire successfully uses satire as a means of conveying his opinions about life. In his novel,
Candide, Voltaire satirizes the philosopher Liebnitz s philosophy that this is the best of all possible
worlds. In the novel, the perpetually optimistic and naive character, Candide, travels around the world,
having various experiences that prove, at least to the reader, that evil does exist.
In one particular passage, Voltaire uses explicit diction, exaggerated details and manipulated syntax in
order to contrast the optimist s romantic view of battle with the horrible reality that is war. Voltaire s
grossly exaggerated details give a somewhat comical description of an ... Show more content on

The soldiers dispose of men s lives as if they were worthless, for the purpose of settling a
disagreement. After fighting, the two kings celebrate their respective victories by having Te Deums
sung. The kings have the audacity to celebrate after commanding their armies to kill innocent people.
They congratulate themselves after the violent bloodbath even though neither side has won. Later,
Candide passes through a town that has been destroyed by the Bulgars in strict accordance with the
laws of war. Voltaire suggests that the Bulgars burnt the town to the ground only because they were
blindly following the laws of war. The soldiers obey their unfounded orders without giving any
consideration to the well being of innocent people.
Voltaire s diction attacks Leibnitz s philosophy that this is the best of all possible worlds; his words
show a stark contrast between the optimist s view of war and the horrible reality. The fine , brisk and
brilliant armies produce a harmony as they remove rascals from the best of worlds . In an attempt to
romanticize the situation, the optimist refers to dying men as if they were harmless miscreants rather
than suffering humans. The diction suggests a fine performance rather

Juxtaposition In The Destructors
There are two types of fiction, literary and commercial. Because the former is more intricate, the
literary approach is often taken while writing meaningful short fiction meant to convey a deeper truth.
Therefore, in order for a short story to be thought provoking, it must be of the literary variety, which
contains complex structure, round characters, and themes that are evident through symbolic elements
within the story. This can best be shown through the juxtaposition and comparison of the commercial
story, The Most Dangerous Game, against the literary story, The Destructors. Something that is able to
generate thought in the mind of the reader is effective characterization, done through the usage of
characters who have deep emotional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, a symbolic structure is necessary in creating an atmosphere of thought inside the reader, as
it will allow for deeper analytical exploration of the story as a whole. The structure of a story can act
as a symbol and provide a portrayal of the plot, as seen prominently within The Destructors, since the
story is formatted in an interesting way that works to parallel the events occurring. The structure is
interesting, as there are four sections, all with little or no transition between them. Important
information about the context of the time of day is purposely left out by Greene, the author, to
symbolize the disjointedness of the boys lives. This is shown explicitly in the transition, or lack
thereof, from section one to two. Section two begins after a conversation between the boys has ended,
and section 1 skips to the beginning of the next day. Here, the structure purposely caused the reader to
jump ahead in time and miss the events that take place in between the omitted periods of time. The
reader does not get to know what is occurring there. By generating the feeling of missed time, the
structure acts to symbolize the literal discombobulation within the boys lives, and how the Blitz
stripped them of their previous sense of normality in day to day life. The disconnectedness of the
formation of the story mirrors the physical acts of destruction depicted in the story, since the structure
itself is unruly. When the reader compares this story to the commercial story The Most Dangerous
Game, it is apparent that it is more thought out, as the structure of The Most Dangerous Game is
ordinary, and does not convey any larger meaning about the story as a whole. It contains dialogue and
description, however this is to further the plot instead of illustrating other intricate ideas.

The Macondo Blowout in The Gulf of Mexico
Introduction The Gulf of Mexico (GoM) harbors a rich biota with ecological and high commercial
significance (Yanez Arancibia and Day 2004). In this ecosystem, the microorganisms are the primary
consumers and play major role in the biogeochemical cycling of organic matters (Pomeroy 1974). The
GoM ecosystem is often perturbed by natural calamities or human activities affecting the microbial
community structure (Kryachko et al. 2012) and the associated nutrient cycling at all trophic levels
(Pomeroy 1974; Camilli et al. 2010; Atlas and Hazen 2011). On April 20, 2010 the Macondo Blowout,
the largest accidental oil spill in the GoM and the second largest in the world, released an estimated
4.9 million barrels of crude oil (Atlas and Hazen 2011). This significant ecological perturbation of the
sea and coastal region has led to negative impacts in local fishing, aquaculture and tourism (National
Health Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (US) Gulf Ecology Division 1999; Yanez
Arancibia and Day 2004; Arreguin Sanchez et al. 2004; Ritchie and Keller 2008). Since the
occurrence of the oil spill, most studies used molecular approaches including NextGen sequencing
technology to assess the diversity and metabolism of complex microbial communities in oil
contaminated environments, particularly samples collected from off shore locations surrounding the

A: I agree with Jenkins statement of It s not a moment of perfect American moral clarity because
Efimova did not mean for the medication she took to stay in her system for a long period of time.
Widely shaming Efimova at the Rio Olympics because she took suggested medication a while back
was not right on the American swimmer King and audiences parts. When the American swimmer
Jessica Hardy had taken a enhancement that was forbidden she was not treated as an outsider. When
stories are misinterpreted or manipulated that should not turn to shamming other people, especially if
you do not know the entire actuality. What King perhaps did not recognize was that Efimova had went
to her physician and was recommended medicine that would potentially help her heart and general
health. Europeans trust that too much severe training can damage your well being. Going back to
WADA s outlawing of Meldonium, she very well might have obeyed the guidelines, but the truth
being, there is no certain amount of time it takes for the medication to get out of your system. B:
When Carter spoke about the football situation he described the football player not catching the ball
but making it seem like he did by celebrating he said that the football player had a choice. A choice to

A Brief Note On The Civil Service System
Civil service systems are designed to hire and promote members of the bureaucracy on the basis of
merit. The merit principle is the idea that hiring should be based on entrance exams and promotion
ratings to reward qualified individuals to produce an administration of skilled and talented people. All
civil servant applicants must pass an exam that measures skills related to the particular civil service
position they hope to fill. Some civil service exams are general and apply to a wide range of jobs,
whereas others are focused on a particular type of job. I do not see how a merit exam can truly show
how successful a potential civil servant would be performing in a particular position. An exam may be
able to measure the extent of their paper knowledge on the position, but does not reflect how well a
civil servant would be able to apply their knowledge to their job. Standardized tests are often frowned
upon in public schools, with some politicians and scholars arguing that standardized tests measure
how well a student can take the test, and does not measure how much he or she has learned. The same
applies to these merit exams. I do not believe that a potential bureaucrat should earn their government
position through entrance exams. The exam does not measure how successful a bureaucrat would be at
performing their job, but rather measures their test taking abilities. I believe that a potential bureaucrat
should have to partake in a two year long paid internship in their

Body Mass Lab
Introduction The topic examined in Lab 4 is how Body Mass, Brain Size, and Life History variables,
are distinct amongst humans, apes, and other primates. These variables are related because they
demonstrate positive correlations in the scatterplots of Age of First Reproduction (years), Maximum
Lifespan (years), and Observed Brain Size (cc) of the species, in relation to an increasing Body Mass
(kg). By examining these variables, the Encephalization Quotient (EQ), Age at First Reproduction,
and Maximum Lifespan are then compared amongst humans and various apes. It is suggested that the
EQ, Age at First Reproduction, Maximum Lifespan of humans are higher than other apes. In this
project, we investigated the difference of the EQ, Age at First ... Show more content on

I believe that the estimates were inaccurate because they were both too high or too low, as indicated in
the data. Referencing the scatterplot of Observed Brain Size (cc) versus Body Mass (kg), the data
demonstrate that the relative brain size for the fossil hominins increases as the body mass of the
species increases. Likewise, referencing the scatterplot of Age at First Reproduction (yrs) versus Body
Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the average age at first reproduction of species increases as the
body mass increases. Lastly, referencing the scatterplot of Maximum Lifespan (yrs) versus Body Mass
(kg), the data demonstrate that the average Maximum Lifespan of species increases as their Body
Mass increases. However, there is an outlier in all three of these graphs, presumably the data of
humans, in which their body mass yields higher values of age at first reproduction, maximum lifespan,
and observed brain size, suggesting a slow life history compared to other species. Moreover, by
observing the measures of EQ for the species, the relative brain size for the fossil hominins can aid us
in reconstructing their life histories by demonstrating how deviated the observed brain sizes are when
compared to the expected brain size. Therefore, by measuring the EQ with the observed brain size and
the expected brain size, it allows

The Art Of War During China s Spring And Autumn Period
The Art of War was written during China s Spring and Autumn period. The war had lasted hundreds of

The World s Worst Epidemic Of Obesity Essay
Lose The Wheat
Wheat is not the healthy whole grain it was pretending to be. Like a faithful spouse exposed as a
philanderer and polygamist, wheat is not to be trusted. Held up as an icon of health, it is in reality a
major contributor to the world s worst epidemic of obesity and an astounding list of health problems,
from simple annoyances like dandruff to incapacitating conditions like dementia.
These facts are a cataclysmic revelation for most people: they are unsettling, they are upsetting, and
moreover they are downright inconvenient. The condemnation of wheat is as paradigm shifting, earth
shattering, and life changing as the emergence of the Internet, the packaging of collateralized debt
obligations and the collapse of mortgage markets, the upheavals of the Arab Spring ... events that
shook core beliefs, upended comforting habits, and changed worldviews.
Wheat is the Enron of the food world; worse it is the tobacco industry all over again both frauds, both
intentional and both malevolently perpetrated against, and executed n an international scale. Charming
and engaging on the outside, sociopathic and cataclysmic on the inside, it works its way into your life,
wreaking havoc in every conceivable health destroying way.
For the uninitiated, these are undoubtedly bold assertions that fly in the face of nutritional wisdom.

In the 1960 s, civil rights were becoming a very present and evident concern to the people of America

Let both sides unite to heed, in all corners of the earth, the command of Isaiah to undo the heavy
burdens, and [to] let the oppressed go free.
Here in this passage you can see Kennedy using the phrase let both sides, which entails all nations to
rise up to the calling for world peace and prosperity.
In Martin Luther King Jr. s I Have A Dream speech, King also uses rhetorical strategies to appeal to
his audience.
We can see pathos in the quote: I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the
true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created equal. This
is appealing to pathos because a dream deals with emotion and feelings that you wish to happen or
carry out.
Ethos is present in King s speech when he states: We must forever conduct our struggle on the high
plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical
violence. It really says a lot when King can effectively communicate his ideas on peace while
maintaining that he is against violence.
We can see the logos Martin Luther King Jr. uses when he refers to Lincoln s promise to our country
that was left unfulfilled.

Critical Thinking Skill At Me My Professor
As a science major I am not given the opportunity to explore my imagination; everything that I learn
is factual and unquestionable. Having the opportunity to take an advanced course such as English
1301, opened the window to a world of imagination, information, and wisdom. Prior to taking this
course I struggled with different writing skills such as, understanding the process of writing, analyzing
reading selection and applying basic critical thinking skill in an argumentative essay. I also struggled
with the analysis of specific content in professional writing, identifying rhetorical strategies and
synthesising concepts from references. Lucky for me my professor was very skilled and provided me
with numerous activities and assignments that helped me improve my writing. Writing is not simply
jotting down words in hopes of creating a masterpiece; it is a process that takes time, imagination, and
brain power. Prior to taking English 1301 my method of writing simply involved writing the first thing
that I felt made sense, this unorganized strategy resulted in essays with multiple grammatical errors
that made absolutely no sense. As an English 1301 student I am fortunate to have a professor who had
mastered the art of writing. In assigning group work activities and the literary analysis of songs, I was
able to learn from my professor, that writing is a process not a product. Working in a group divided the
workload and gave us more time to look at each other s

Women s Reproductive Rights and Freedoms
Women s reproductive rights are legal rights and freedoms pertaining to reproduction and reproductive
health. One can expect reproductive rights to include the following topics: the right to birth control,
the right to legal abortion, the right to education and access so that properly informed choices can be
made and the right to access good quality reproductive healthcare. The women s reproductive rights
and freedoms movement move far beyond the topic of the abortion movement alone, there are also
debates that include forced sterilization abuse and population control when looking at the subject of
reproductive rights. Throughout history, women have had their right to abortion taken away and have
even been sterilized without their permission because they were mentally handicapped or just because
they were not the dominant race because eugenicists wanted greater procreation by the middle class
women of European descent. Women have had to endure an abundant amount of abuse to their
reproductive rights and freedoms, from having their right to abortion taken away to being wrongfully
sterilized; women have had to fight for their rights that should have never been abused in the first

movement, as well as discuss how women have been wrongfully forced into sterilization.

Gene mapping is used to map the relative positions of genes on a chromosome using cross over

Discipline In The Veldt
Parents choose to discipline their children to help them grow as people. Positive punishment goes a
long way in developing character and instilling morals. In contrast, a lack of discipline can cause
children to rebel or put themselves in dangerous situations. This is apparent in Ray Bradbury s The
Veldt. Characters Wendy and Peter are shown little love and discipline by their parents, which has
severe consequences later in the story. Through allusion, irony, and setting Bradbury shows that
discipline is vital to the growth of children. Bradbury describes the purr of the lions breathing in
combination with their eyes to create a feeling of superiority or power. This motif shows the extreme
lack of power or control that George and Lydia have over their children. After entering the room and
admiring the mechanical genius of the technology, George and Lydia noticed they were staring at two
ferocious lions only 15 feet away. Bradbury notes the sound of their matted lion lungs exhaling on the
silent noontide (Bradbury 3). This not only would create fear at such a close proximity, but it shows
how strong the lions are. Bradbury then mentions how the lions stood looking at George and Lydia
Hadley with terrible yellow green eyes (Bradbury 3). Again, this attribute shows the power the lions
possess. When considering the family, the children, much like the lions, have more power than the
parents. The lack of power George and Lydia have allows Wendy and Peter to feel superior

Teacher and Student Relationship
The teacher student relationship is very important for children. Children spend approximately 5 to 7

All of us have gone through schooling, and if fortunate had a favorite teacher. A positive relationship
between the student and the teacher is difficult to establish, but can be found for both individuals at
either end. The qualities for a positive relationship can vary to set a learning experience approachable

Teachers understand that if this behavior continues in the classroom and if they do nothing to prevent
this from happening, the outcome proves to be disastrous for both types of participants. The student
will conclude that his or her behavior is permissible, and will draw away from learning, therefore it is
essentially important for the teacher to explain to the child the importance to learn. Though we
understand that learning cannot be forced. Learning becomes a process for an individual where he or
she feels comfortable with learning whether it s in a classroom or at home. Mike Rose explains in
Lives on the Boundary that It is what we are excited about that educates us (106). Rose s quote can be
applied to children at an early age, just as well as it can be applied to adults. Definitely children learn
when they enjoy learning, but also they need some control over the teacher (s) decisions. Authoritarian
control is often destructive to students who are in the primary grades, and eventually upper grades
teachers have difficulty dealing with children who were taught with an authoritarian teacher (Jones

knowledge, but at the same time they want to be listened too. The student will feel valued and

The Impact Of Louis XIV On France
King Louis XIV and Jean Baptiste Colbert had an important historical impact on France s economy.
Colbert become Finance Minister to Louis XIV in 1665. In the years before Colbert, the previous
minister of finance Mazarin had France in a turmoil of financial neglect and corruption. Over his
lifetime as finance minister, Colbert brought in new measures with Louis XIV to re establish France as
a place of expanding industry and prosperity. Louis XIV was an absolute monarch. After the death of
Mazarin, Louis XIV, expressed his desire to be the sole ruler of France and his own prime minister. It

People argue television has increased awareness of politics to create more fair and accessible

Television promotes candidates image over their policies. Instead of the candidates discussing what
they are going to do for the country, they simply argue why they are better than each other. The

Since the end of the Spanish American War in 1898 the United States has proclaim the

school shooting for anyone who does not know is a form of mass shooting involving a gun attack on
an educational institution, such as a school or university. The U.S. Secret service defines them as
shootings where schools are deliberately selected as the location for the attack . The question is, are
guns the problem or is it immoral people? Gun control is define as one of the most controversial and
emotional issues in many countries, with the debate often centring on whether regulations on an
individual s right to arms are an undue restriction on liberty and whether there is a correlation ... Show

Some people think that if we just get rid of guns, violence will magically lower. Those people are
naive, especially when only 2.6 percent of all murders are committed with some type of rifle. Thomas
Jefferson once quoted Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither
inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better
for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may
be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Criminals would continue finding ways to
illegally acquire guns while robbing and attacking law abiding citizens who suddenly have no means
of self defense. Lastly reason number five why gun control will not work, The cause of mass
shootings isn t guns; it is mental health. Guns don t kill people, people kill people at first seems like a
stupid pro gun argument. People adherently complain that they have heard that far to many times and
it sounds very basic, to the point and a little bit childish but its very true and something people need to
really understand. Well, people need the guns to kill people, which is true but the point is to target the
mental health issue before we take away arms from American citizen, with this being said people need
to realize how important firearms are to the American population. (Patrick,

Inaccuracies In Saving Private Ryan
Saving Private Ryan is considered one of the most historically accurate war movies ever produced.
However, no movie could correctly duplicate the struggle that was faced and the fear that was shared
among all of the soldiers. The movie is mostly centered around Private Ryan, a soldier during World
War II, whose three brothers have died in combat. Not wanting his mother to lose her last son, eight
men are given the mission of finding Ryan so he may be sent back home. The movie shows the
difficulties that these eight men face while searching and still trying to win the war. Surprisingly,
Saving Private Ryan is loosely based on a true story. Like Ryan in the movie, three of the four Niland
brothers were reported dead and the last one was sent home so the family would not lose all of their
children. They later discovered that one of the other brothers was alive after he escaped from a
Japanese prison camp. Unlike in the movie, there was no team assembled to go after the surviving son.
One of the biggest things that the movie got wrong was that they were not going to risk the lives of
many to save one. In the movie, the sacrifice was justified by saying that the mother did not need to go
through losing another son, but it was stated by one of the eight that they all had mothers who should
not have to go through that either. Hey, Wade, I got a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is historically inaccurate because the Geneva Conventions had decided that if the Medics were
not going to be fired upon during fighting, they were not allowed to carry any form of a weapon.
Despite doing this in the beginning, later in the movie the medic is not given a gun and is still fired
upon and soon dies of a bullet wound. Lastly, the Battle of Ramelle that occurs at the end of the movie
was fiction. I am sure that at some point during the war a battle similar to that was fought but even the
town itself was

Social Historian Anne Else Recalls
In 1959, hundreds of people queued in the hot sun to see inside the houses at the Parade of Homes in
the Wellington suburb of Tawa. Not all were looking to buy. Parades such as this provided inspiration
for home renovations and do it yourself projects. As Designing Housewife wrote in the Evening Post
the following year: There is no doubt that the parade of homes is next in popularity to racing and
football amongst New
Zealanders. 1 She might perhaps have added that this was especially the case for women, who were
expected to follow trends with particular enthusiasm.
Social historian Anne Else recalls: I picked up the message very early, mainly from the pages of my
mother s fat weekly bundle of magazines, showing fascinating floor plans of the right and wrong way
to arrange furniture, or ten bright ideas for trimming lamp shades. 2
The home is central to most nostalgic re imaginings of the 1950s and 1960s. Home and home life were
also fundamental components of the New Zealand Dream and the New Zealand way of life , and were
the focus of a great deal of government social policy.3 This emphasis on house and home was partly
pragmatic: couples were marrying younger and in greater numbers after the war, and most of them
were seeking stability and starting families. But the domestic emphasis was also an expression of
quintessentially New Zealand expectations about how families should live and bring up children, and
how that should be encapsulated in a separate house, on

  • 2. Human Overpopulation, Ocean Acidification, And Pollution People may believe that the most important environmental issues threatening our world would be human overpopulation, ocean acidification, and pollution. However we are forgetting how important every environmental issue is to our planet and the humans that populate it. Ozone depletion affects both the planet and the people. It is a very serious environmental issue that if not solved can cost us some serious loss. The depletion of our ozone layers and the creation of the ozone hole has occurred since the 1980 s, and it s only getting worst. The ozone layer is a form of oxygen in the molecular form of O3. It is an unstable gas with a pungent odour, it is bluish and it is located in two parts of the atmosphere: the stratosphere and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ozone layer in the troposphere is formed from reactions between volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOX) . These layers are vital for the formation of weather and distribution of radiation. Without the ozone our world would be dead and have no life, just a radiated pile of rock. The ozone hole is a region of the ozone layer that is thinning. This hole is as big as the USA and is located over Antarctica. The depletion of the ozone layer in Antarctic takes place there because of the atmospheric conditions that occurs no other place in the world. Because the temperatures during the winter is extremely low, polar stratospheric clouds form. Polar Stratospheric are located in the stratosphere over Antarctica and the Arctic. They also convert forms of chlorine monoxide which are man made pollutants that get trapped in these clouds. These clouds account for the deterioration of the ozone around Antarctica and helps in the growth of the ozone hole. The ozone hole is also caused by gases called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) from cars, etc. Halons (brominated fluorocarbons) also have a major effect of the formation of the hole and they can destroy up to 10 times as much ozone as CFCs can. • 3. Red Flour Beetles Lab INTRODUCTION In this lab, the class discovered the effects of different substrates and stimuli on red flour beetles. Red flour beetles eat flour and other grains and the female beetle deposits her eggs on flour, cereal, dry pet food, or other similar products. The larvae hatch and then begin to eat the material around them. In the article Patch exploitation by Tribolium castaneum: Movement patterns, distribution, and oviposition , it says that most of the activity from red flour beetles is spent in food sources (Campbell and Hagstrum). There are many factors that affect the red flour beetles ability to survive or reproduce, like temperature, food source, stress, and genetics (Biology 159). In Humidity Reactions of Tribolium Castaneum (Herbst) , it states that red flour beetles are attracted to different substrates due to their nutritional levels and moisture level of the substrate (Willis and Roth). ... • 4. Eating Disorders Program Analysis Eating disorders have long been a problem in the United States. Most fail to grasp the severity until someone close to them experiences the difficulties. Personally, I realized the prevalence of eating disorders when several children endeared to me commented that they feel too fat or skipped meals in order to not become obese. Instead of a teenage friend at school that one would assume, younger children that range from seven to ten years of age made these comments. Realizing the problem, I decided that I would create a program that would educate younger children regarding the seriousness and effects of eating disorders. Before designing the program, I researched for weeks in order to find facts and statistics concerning eating disorders in the United States. The research proved that disorders begin in children as young as age seven or eight. Additionally, pre teenagers predominantly suffer from eating disorders. The research also showed that countless victims remain unnoticed due to a reluctance to tell an adult. Peers lack the education to recognize a presented disorder. In order to curb the problem, pre teens need to be taught how to identify a disorder and how to aid a friend. To educate the pre teens, I developed a program called I Like Me Because. The fact of the matter is, nobody understands what anyone is going through unless they have experienced it themselves. As children we are taught that everyone is equal and that we should treat each other as such. I am very fortunate to have grown up with the most amazing and supportive parents who had always found a way to make sure I was happy and healthy. Even though not everyone had the same experiences I did, as a child I thought that everyone had both parents and always got the new toy or had new clothes for school because I thought that everyone being equal meant that everyone was as well taken care of as I was. Then an emperor was at the top and below him came the patrician class, which held the administrative power. An example that shows the role of the Senate is: Senators during the Republic held the greatest power in the Roman state. They had many responsibilities, such as governing of all of Rome s finances, making critical decisions about deploying the military, guiding all the diplomatic missions and engaging in commerce or investing in the trade. (Roman Republic and Empire VOL.3 / Pg. 198) As it can be seen from the quote, the Senate was an institution that ran the whole Republic. Its social status was immense. They provided an effective ruling of the state and although, they didn t create the laws (consuls did), the senators ensured consistency, which was a needed element in a democracy. This ensured that the consuls and senators had their own position, and only one can rule over the other. Later, with the gradual establishment of the Empire, the role of the Senate weakened. Still, during that time the emperor sometimes looked up to the Senate for making appropriate decisions, concerning the empire. Another example shows the complex system of Cursus Honorum. Each theory will be broken down into it s own section of synopsis and then assessment of Dasani to give a better understanding of her spiritual and cultural dimensions and her physical environment. Fowler s Stages of Faith Development Synopsis James Fowler developed his stages of faith after conduction in depth interviews of 359 people. The sample subjects were predominately white, with equal numbers of males and females and included a wide range of ages, from three and a half to 84 years old. Fowler s interviews consisted of 30 plus questions regarding the subject s life experiences, relationships, values, commitments and religion. After analyzing the responses, Fowler placed each subject in one of six faith stages. The responses indicated that as the subject s age increased, so did their stage of faith (Hutchison, 2015). Fowler saw faith as greater than religious faith and viewed it as a universal aspect of human existence (Hutchison, 2015). The ultimate environment is an important element of Fowler s theory. He saw faith as not only an internal image but also how one relates to that image. Faith is not an unchangeable image or idea, but a way of being. The six stages of ... Statistics Canada s 2008/09 Canadian Community Health Survey found that 19% of individuals aged 65 or over felt a lack of companionship, left out, or isolated from others (National Seniors Council, 2014). Social isolation is not the same as loneliness. It is a form of emotion that makes people depression. Social isolation impacts on seniors quality of life, mental and physical health. To reduce the social isolation is the way seniors are connected socially. For example, there are exercise programs and community engaged art programs for the elderly in the community. This program is effective for seniors physical and mental health. Although such programs have beneficial effects on seniors health, some studies argue that there are barriers to reducing the social isolation of older people in such programs. Community programs and community participation programs benefit from the seniors physical, emotional and social well being. The purpose of the Community exercise program is a socialization based exercise program to improve the seniors health. Community arts programs aim to promote optimal health for seniors. In his novel, Candide, Voltaire satirizes the philosopher Liebnitz s philosophy that this is the best of all possible worlds. In the novel, the perpetually optimistic and naive character, Candide, travels around the world, having various experiences that prove, at least to the reader, that evil does exist. Later, Candide passes through a town that has been destroyed by the Bulgars in strict accordance with the laws of war. Because the former is more intricate, the literary approach is often taken while writing meaningful short fiction meant to convey a deeper truth. Therefore, in order for a short story to be thought provoking, it must be of the literary variety, which contains complex structure, round characters, and themes that are evident through symbolic elements within the story. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, a symbolic structure is necessary in creating an atmosphere of thought inside the reader, as it will allow for deeper analytical exploration of the story as a whole. The structure of a story can act as a symbol and provide a portrayal of the plot, as seen prominently within The Destructors, since the story is formatted in an interesting way that works to parallel the events occurring. The structure is interesting, as there are four sections, all with little or no transition between them. Important information about the context of the time of day is purposely left out by Greene, the author, to symbolize the disjointedness of the boys lives. This is shown explicitly in the transition, or lack thereof, from section one to two. Section two begins after a conversation between the boys has ended, and section 1 skips to the beginning of the next day. Here, the structure purposely caused the reader to jump ahead in time and miss the events that take place in between the omitted periods of time. The reader does not get to know what is occurring there. By generating the feeling of missed time, the structure acts to symbolize the literal discombobulation within the boys lives, and how the Blitz stripped them of their previous sense of normality in day to day life. The disconnectedness of the formation of the story mirrors the physical acts of destruction depicted in the story, since the structure itself is unruly. When the reader compares this story to the commercial story The Most Dangerous Game, it is apparent that it is more thought out, as the structure of The Most Dangerous Game is ordinary, and does not convey any larger meaning about the story as a whole. It contains dialogue and description, however this is to further the plot instead of illustrating other intricate ideas. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. The Macondo Blowout in The Gulf of Mexico Introduction The Gulf of Mexico (GoM) harbors a rich biota with ecological and high commercial significance (Yanez Arancibia and Day 2004). In this ecosystem, the microorganisms are the primary consumers and play major role in the biogeochemical cycling of organic matters (Pomeroy 1974). The GoM ecosystem is often perturbed by natural calamities or human activities affecting the microbial community structure (Kryachko et al. 2012) and the associated nutrient cycling at all trophic levels (Pomeroy 1974; Camilli et al. 2010; Atlas and Hazen 2011). On April 20, 2010 the Macondo Blowout, the largest accidental oil spill in the GoM and the second largest in the world, released an estimated 4.9 million barrels of crude oil (Atlas and Hazen 2011). This significant ecological perturbation of the sea and coastal region has led to negative impacts in local fishing, aquaculture and tourism (National Health Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (US) Gulf Ecology Division 1999; Yanez Arancibia and Day 2004; Arreguin Sanchez et al. 2004; Ritchie and Keller 2008). Since the occurrence of the oil spill, most studies used molecular approaches including NextGen sequencing technology to assess the diversity and metabolism of complex microbial communities in oil contaminated environments, particularly samples collected from off shore locations surrounding the Macondo Blowout (Evans et al. 2004; Bordenave et al. 2007; Cappello et al. 2007; Liang et al. 2007; dos Santos et al. 2011; ... • 24. A Brief Note On The Civil Service System Civil service systems are designed to hire and promote members of the bureaucracy on the basis of merit. The merit principle is the idea that hiring should be based on entrance exams and promotion ratings to reward qualified individuals to produce an administration of skilled and talented people. All civil servant applicants must pass an exam that measures skills related to the particular civil service position they hope to fill. Some civil service exams are general and apply to a wide range of jobs, whereas others are focused on a particular type of job. I do not see how a merit exam can truly show how successful a potential civil servant would be performing in a particular position. An exam may be able to measure the extent of their paper knowledge on the position, but does not reflect how well a civil servant would be able to apply their knowledge to their job. Standardized tests are often frowned upon in public schools, with some politicians and scholars arguing that standardized tests measure how well a student can take the test, and does not measure how much he or she has learned. The same applies to these merit exams. I do not believe that a potential bureaucrat should earn their government position through entrance exams. The exam does not measure how successful a bureaucrat would be at performing their job, but rather measures their test taking abilities. I believe that a potential bureaucrat should have to partake in a two year long paid internship in their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Body Mass Lab Introduction The topic examined in Lab 4 is how Body Mass, Brain Size, and Life History variables, are distinct amongst humans, apes, and other primates. These variables are related because they demonstrate positive correlations in the scatterplots of Age of First Reproduction (years), Maximum Lifespan (years), and Observed Brain Size (cc) of the species, in relation to an increasing Body Mass (kg). By examining these variables, the Encephalization Quotient (EQ), Age at First Reproduction, and Maximum Lifespan are then compared amongst humans and various apes. It is suggested that the EQ, Age at First Reproduction, Maximum Lifespan of humans are higher than other apes. In this project, we investigated the difference of the EQ, Age at First ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that the estimates were inaccurate because they were both too high or too low, as indicated in the data. Referencing the scatterplot of Observed Brain Size (cc) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the relative brain size for the fossil hominins increases as the body mass of the species increases. Likewise, referencing the scatterplot of Age at First Reproduction (yrs) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the average age at first reproduction of species increases as the body mass increases. Lastly, referencing the scatterplot of Maximum Lifespan (yrs) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the average Maximum Lifespan of species increases as their Body Mass increases. However, there is an outlier in all three of these graphs, presumably the data of humans, in which their body mass yields higher values of age at first reproduction, maximum lifespan, and observed brain size, suggesting a slow life history compared to other species. Moreover, by observing the measures of EQ for the species, the relative brain size for the fossil hominins can aid us in reconstructing their life histories by demonstrating how deviated the observed brain sizes are when compared to the expected brain size. Therefore, by measuring the EQ with the observed brain size and the expected brain size, it allows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ethos is present in King s speech when he states: We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. • 36. Discipline In The Veldt Parents choose to discipline their children to help them grow as people. Positive punishment goes a long way in developing character and instilling morals. In contrast, a lack of discipline can cause children to rebel or put themselves in dangerous situations. This is apparent in Ray Bradbury s The Veldt. Characters Wendy and Peter are shown little love and discipline by their parents, which has severe consequences later in the story. Through allusion, irony, and setting Bradbury shows that discipline is vital to the growth of children. Bradbury describes the purr of the lions breathing in combination with their eyes to create a feeling of superiority or power. This motif shows the extreme lack of power or control that George and Lydia have over their children. After entering the room and admiring the mechanical genius of the technology, George and Lydia noticed they were staring at two ferocious lions only 15 feet away. Bradbury notes the sound of their matted lion lungs exhaling on the silent noontide (Bradbury 3). This not only would create fear at such a close proximity, but it shows how strong the lions are. Bradbury then mentions how the lions stood looking at George and Lydia Hadley with terrible yellow green eyes (Bradbury 3). Again, this attribute shows the power the lions possess. When considering the family, the children, much like the lions, have more power than the parents. The lack of power George and Lydia have allows Wendy and Peter to feel superior ... However, no movie could correctly duplicate the struggle that was faced and the fear that was shared among all of the soldiers. Not wanting his mother to lose her last son, eight men are given the mission of finding Ryan so he may be sent back home. The movie shows the difficulties that these eight men face while searching and still trying to win the war. Surprisingly, Saving Private Ryan is loosely based on a true story. They later discovered that one of the other brothers was alive after he escaped from a Japanese prison camp. Unlike in the movie, there was no team assembled to go after the surviving son. One of the biggest things that the movie got wrong was that they were not going to risk the lives of many to save one. As Designing Housewife wrote in the Evening Post the following year: There is no doubt that the parade of homes is next in popularity to racing and football amongst New Zealanders. 1 She might perhaps have added that this was especially the case for women, who were expected to follow trends with particular enthusiasm. Social historian Anne Else recalls: I picked up the message very early, mainly from the pages of my mother s fat weekly bundle of magazines, showing fascinating floor plans of the right and wrong way to arrange furniture, or ten bright ideas for trimming lamp shades. 2 The home is central to most nostalgic re imaginings of the 1950s and 1960s. Home and home life were also fundamental components of the New Zealand Dream and the New Zealand way of life , and were the focus of a great deal of government social policy.3 This emphasis on house and home was partly pragmatic: couples were marrying younger and in greater numbers after the war, and most of them were seeking stability and starting families.
