6 myths of Software Testing (As I have seen during my testing journey)Brian Osman
This is a talk I gave at a TPN (Test Professionals Network) group in Wellington, New Zealand in December 2012. These 6 myths are six of many that surround Software Testing (and in particular what I have found here in Wellington, New Zealand) particularly the myth that Test Leadership is dead! This is completely untrue - New Zealand abounds with some really good, thinking leaders!
In this presentation, discussions are made over the definitions of critical thinking, historical development of critical thinking domain, critical thinking skills, critical thinking goals, and the heart of critical thinking- Socratic Questions.

How to Really Listen & Ask Powerful Questions - Professional Coaching DojoGeorg Fasching
In an increasingly complex world coaching continues to gain importance. We often have the answer ourselves and just need to discover it.
Professional coaching helps people to accomplish this. The two initial coaching skills are listening and powerful questions. These are covered in this dojo pack with exercises for 1, 2, and 3 people.
Try it out, have fun, and let me know how it goes please.
We’ve all sat through painful requirements, planning, and brainstorming sessions that provide little useful output, are painfully long, and where the outcome was already decided by the loudest few before the meeting even started. Learn how silence can increase collaboration *and* help your agile project be more productive. Silent brainstorming allows everyone to have a voice – the loud people can’t dominate the conversation, the quiet people are provided with a way to contribute, and cognitive fixation is reduced. We’ll discuss the science of brainstorming, walk through many agile practices that use silence, and then practice a few silent brainstorming techniques such as User Story Writing, Retrospectives, and UX Design Studio.
As an enthusiastic problem solver and solution designer you were thrilled to be asked to {design the UI | architect the system | design the kanban board | solve the bottleneck | plan the office mini-golf course | storm the castle}. You researched the problem, weighed the options, considered the alternatives, and put your best effort into the final deliverable. Your presentation to the team was flawless - not one PowerPoint slide with more than 5 words on it! But, while everyone knew that your solution was awesome, it was ultimately trashed, warped, abused, tortured, discarded, and ignored.
What happened? You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - the most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Your design sucks because it isn't mine."
At this point you must be wondering - "If we only had a wheelbarrow (i.e. Design Studio), that would be something." Join me for a workshop on using the Design Studio Approach to achieve effective collaborative design. Have fun storming the studio!
BPO Future Forward: 8 Traits of a Transformational ThinkerInfosys BPM
When people are asked to transform business, they start to analyze almost automatically and come with imitations of what worked in the past. Transformation calls for a whole new paradigm of thinking. It is at the root of innovation and success but it is not a commonly available trait in individuals. And so identifying transformation thinkers is as harder as important.
Here is an HR practitioner’s cheat sheet of 8 key and recognizable traits of transformational thinkers.

Stephanie Cooper - Genuine Curiosity - Conversations for ChangeAgileNZ Conference
People often ask for the golden phrase, the silver bullet they can use to convince their teams, managers or executives to ‘go Agile’. While it would certainly help to talk about outcomes and benefits over practices and methods, it can sometimes be your own mindset that is holding back your ability to influence change.
In this session, Steph looks at mindsets (the values and assumptions you make) and explore how a lack of genuine curiosity can provoke defensive behaviours in others and stop organisations from resolving the issues that really matter, but are challenging to address.
She’ll use the setting of a small conversation to explore and better understand these ideas. While organisational change is big, the momentum for change can often be won or lost in small conversations. Becoming better in small conversations will help you grow your role in influencing organisational change. When you approach conversations with genuine curiosity about the other person’s point of view, you will not only have a more productive conversation, but build the trust needed for the work ahead.
These ideas and techniques are popular as they are accessible and relatively easy to adopt.
Positive Feedback Mechanisms: Promoting better communication environments in ...Jailza Pauly
Feedback is a critical part of communication and essential to developing the optimal work environment. How do you prepare for giving feedback? How do you respond to feedback? What does a good feedback environment look like? This workshop explored these questions and gave graduate students and postdocs opportunities to practice real-life scenarios giving and receiving feedback.
This was a test guide I prepared for one of my classes (COMM 265G) Principles of Communication at NMSU-A. The instructor was Prof. Jim Gallagher Ph. D.
This is the final presentation for the Catalytic Leadership workshop given at Agile2017. In this one will learn about about how to lead change through small influences no matter where you are in the organization. It also helps you understand that change needs to be focused on Environment, Support, and Trust and provides a trust model that can be used for this.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
