How To Write An Essay On The Chocolate War
Trinity is especially dangerous for Jerry when he just says No ... to selling chocolates for the school.
Seriously. His No! gets him in trouble with The Vigils, an underground student group that controls the
other kids at school with mafia style tactics. Jerry s stand against selling chocolate also gets him
trouble with Brother Leon, the Voldemort esque schoolmaster.
Before The Chocolate War, Cormier published a couple of adult novels, which didn t make much of a
splash. With this book, he really found his audience, and went on to publish over a dozen young adult
books. His dark portrayals of teen life get lots of love from critics, teachers, and teens alike.
Of course, not everybody is a fan. The Chocolate War is one of the most frequently ... Show more

Hey there. We were just listening to Pink Floyd s Another Brick in the Wall, Part II, album The Wall.
Too bad it didn t come out a few years earlier, like, say, 1974 when The Chocolate War was published.
We think Jerry (our hero) and the guys at Trinity high school might have liked it. The song totally
makes us think of the novel s villainous Brother Leon, who tortures kids with his sarcasm,
manipulation, and his teacher s pointer at every turn.
Which brings us to why you might care about The Chocolate War. Maybe you ve had some teachers
like the kind Pink Floyd sings about in this and other songs. The Chocolate War shows how hard this
is on students (as if you didn t already know), but also what this type of school situation teaches the
students experiencing it. According to this novel, it teaches things like how to use violence,
intimidation, and manipulation. It turns kids against each other and creates a really sick overall
environment.
But, you probably already knew that. The important thing about this novel is that somebody (our hero
Jerry) tries to change things by saying No, by refusing to go along and do what he s told. Not to give
anything away, but this doesn t work out all that well for him. The novel leaves it to us, the readers, to
decide whether taking a stand is worth

Police Robots with Lethal Weapons, between Ethic and Dilemma
Protecting people s safety in the United States is the main duty of Police Department. They use many
ways to deal with it. One of the controversial issue in the police department is equipping the robot
with lethal weapons. Many people contrast with the idea since they think it will remove the human
element from policing. However, there are a lot of people also support the idea. Police Department
should not be allowed to carry police robot with any lethal weapons because robots also have
weaknesses, it can only be used by military forces in the battlefield, and also because even a person
who killed five police officers deserves due process.
There are at least three main reasons that police robot should not be allowed to carry lethal weapons.
Firstly, robots also have weaknesses. Indeed, we agreed that robots were simply another tool in the
police arsenal, but they which have been used by police since the 1990s, are typically outfitted with
cameras. The view of a robot is limited by the camera he carrying on, and also limit the point of view
of the police officers who control it. They cannot sense a dangerous momentum in the crime location.
Moreover, any electronic devices can be hacked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the police officers compare to the military forces that can use the robot to kill enemies, but
there is a significant different between the use of robots in a battlefield and the use of robots in our
neighborhood. The main objective of war is to defeat the enemies and win the war. If we do not defeat
the enemies, they will defeat us. On the other hand, the main objective of law enforcement is
enforcing the law, and protect the civilians. Giving weapons to the robot will not make us feel safe,
otherwise, it will make us feeling unsafe live among those

Thin Democracy
Thin democracy can be considered as the overview of how democracies elect their leaders. Joseph
Schumpeter describes thin democracy to have free, fair, and regular elections. On the other hand, there
are ten thick dimensions to what is considered a liberal democracy. Thick democracy has
characteristics such as a large amount of individual freedoms in terms of speech, belief, and opinion,
pluralism in regards to media and information outlets, and equality of all citizens under the law. The
distinction between the two are important because they both present two different results when being
established. Thin democracy is malleable and can multiply at a good rate. However, this only gives an
opportunity for good values to be established and does not ensure the same perks as thick democracy.
Thick democracy is slowly forged with liberal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The relationship between liberalism and democracy is that both should attempt to be intertwined.
Liberalism is like the roof and walls which protect the citizens from government and democracy is the
structure and foundations which keeps order. It is completely possible to have one without the other,
but the results are not always good. As stated in the second reading, the separation of the two would
result in forms of illiberal democracy or liberal autocracy. Illiberal democracy would have the
electoral process of a thin democracy, but will likely overlook protecting the citizens rights and focus
on accumulating power. A liberal autocracy may not allow much say into who or what is spearheading
the nation, but will allow many qualities seen in a thick democracy. Illiberal democracies may also
eventually spiral into disarray along with horizontal and vertical usurpation. Liberal autocracies would
have freedom of speech, a fair judicial system, and even individual freedoms for beliefs, culture, and
religion. Of course, there may be more or less freedoms with both liberal autocracies and illiberal

jail by local, federal, and state law enforcement agencies, be other correctional institutions such as
juvenile centers, local jails, out of state jails, or federal or state prisons. The jail booking desk is the
main entry point. There are miscellaneous types of offenders who also pass through the booking desk
such as the witness who is being held in protective custody. Another type of offender is an inmate
from the jail system who violates a rule of work release or home incarceration program, or a criminal
statute that dictates that inmate s removal from such programs pending further criminal action. Jails

The Importance Of The Youth Justice System
This essay will introduce the youth justice system within England and Wales. The essay will highlight
key pieces of youth justice legislation and it will comment on how they affect practice. The principles
of the system will be presented and discussed before it is argued that one principle has precedence
over the others. There will be use of a case study in which to express the ideology that one principle
should be the precedence of the youth justice system.
The youth justice system deals with young people under 18 years of age who break the law. The Youth
Justice Board for England and Wales (YJB) is a public body developed under Section 41 of the Crime
and Disorder Act 1998 to oversee the youth justice system for England and Wales (Youth Justice
Board for England and Wales, 2016). The Youth Justice System carry out the processes for
prosecution, conviction and punishment. Within the youth justice system, there are extensive
considerations made when young people offend. These considerations can be thought to be principles,
which are the fundamental base of something (Oxford Dictionary, 2016), in this case, the criminal
justice system. The principles include (although are not limited to) risk assessment, public protection,
punishment, rehabilitation, justice and welfare. The prime focus of this essay will be to determine
whether justice or welfare should take precedence when responding to young people who break the
law.
A punishment is the infliction of an undesirable or unpleasant outcome upon an individual or group
because they have done wrong. Punishments are administered with the notion that a wrongdoing can
be corrected (Frase, 2011). Throughout the 17 and 18th century the legal system in Britain was
incredibly harsh, disposing death penalties for often minor offences, the intention of this was general
deterrence to discourage individuals from committing crime. There were great structural
insufficiencies in the justice system and due to it being so punitive, juries were hesitant in finding
people guilty of offences (Bentley, 1998). This era became known as The Bloody Code . During The
Bloody Code , prison ships were introduced to separate young people from adults. They were
criticised for their

Moral Panic Essay
Moral Panic Moral panic is a widely used and often misinterpreted concept in social sciences. The
term was invented by the British sociologist Stanley Cohen the late sixties. Cohen defined moral panic
as a form of collective behaviour during which: A condition, episode, person or group emerges to
become defined as a threat to societal values and interests; its nature is presented in a stylised and
stereotypical fashion by the mass media; the moral barricades are manned by editors, bishops,
politicians and other right thinking people; socially accredited experts pronounce their diagnosis and
solutions; ways of coping are evolved or (more often) resorted to; the condition then disappears, ...

It represents the collective fear of the society from the other . I suggest that today moral panic is not
simply a matter of exaggerated social problems, but it is a fear of losing control over the other and the
fear of the truth about the other . Moral panic intends to reinforce the boundaries between the self and
the other . My case study is the moral panic of pornography on the Internet. Moral panic What is
moral panic? Moral panic is a form of collective behaviour that from one day to the other considers a
certain group of people dangerous. The reasons might vary from fake rumours to real (exaggerated)
facts. The period of a moral panic usually ends with social actions either in form of attacking the other
(in the case of a Satanic Ritual) or in changing the law (pornography on the Internet). Moral panics
usually take place at the time of significant changes in society, when there is a great fear of loss of
control. In these times collective consciousness needs to be reinforced so that society can locate new
boundaries. Other examples of moral panics are over witchcrafts, satanic rituals, drugs, handguns,
teenage pregnancy, TV violence, Internet and so on. According to Goode and Ben Yehuda, moral
panic has the following necessary indicators: 1. Concern (different from fear) over the imagined threat

They have a long, flat mouth in the center of their body. They usually inhabit flat surfaces in the water,
and can be found on rubble or soft substrates and can be find at depths from 1 meter to 25 meters

other coral and fish if threatened. The main source of nutrition the coral receives is a symbiotic
relationship with bacteria that live in it s mouth but it can kill and digest other animals if needed, their
tentacles will help feed the organism by pulling in small morsels of food and bring it to the mouth of
the coral. Mushroom coral can reproduce sexually or asexually, if they reproduce sexually, sperm and
eggs are released into the water, when the egg is fertilized the larvae will settle on a substrate
overnight. if it reproduces asexually then a new polyp will grow off the parent and anchor itself via a
stalk which gives the organism its name, when it gets mature enough the stalk will dissolve and the
new coral will sink to the bottom of the water and is now mobile, it will now continue to grow and

Characteristics Of Giles Corey In The Crucible
Is it possible for somebody to go to court thirty three times and win all those times? For Giles Corey
in The Crucible. Giles Corey has been to court that amount of times and has won all those times. Giles
Corey is married to Martha and lives in Salem. Sadly, in The Crucible Giles gets arrested for contempt
of court and is pressed to death for not giving a yes or no answer to being convicted of witchcraft.
Giles Corey and I share the traits sarcastic, determined, and loyal.
Giles Corey and I have sarcastic as a common trait. In The Crucible, Giles Corey is known for his
sarcastic humor using one liners during the play. This kind of humor is also mine. For example in Act
I, Giles says Let s get your lumber home, John. I feel a sudden will to work coming on. when Thomas
Putnam was arguing with John Proctor over land. I also go this to my friends when they argue. Just
like Giles Corey, I have comments for almost everything. Sometimes I say them out loud to friends or
just think of them in class to myself. I m known for being sarcastic to my friends that know me well,
just like Giles is to his friend John Proctor. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Giles is most known in Salem for going to court thirty three times and winning all the trials for land.
Hearing how Giles is determined to get the land, I can also relate to that trait. For example, just this

the job all on my own. Just like Giles I was also set on another goal, being Alice for my Alice In

Furthermore, tissue microarrays are another high throughput technique that permits multiple assays to
be performed for multiple patients on a single slide as up to 1000 tissue samples can be arrayed into a

MammaPrint is a DNA microarray which includes hybridization of complementary DNA of 70 gene

This test was produced using breast cancer biopsies from patients who had underwent surgery but had
not received any systemic therapy for their primary tumor and had been followed up for 5 years. The
majority of the 70 genes were selected from a microarray of 25,000 genes (Duffy et al. 2017)
Using the MammaPrint test, the patients can be isolated into low or high risk categories,
corresponding to a 10 year distant metastasis free survival rate of more than 90% or less than 90%,
respectively. The validation study used for MammaPrint assay showed that women classified as low
risk had a 10% possibility of distant recurrence and those classified as high risk had a 29% chance of
recurrence, without adjuvant therapy at 10 years. (Balazs et al.2015)
MammaPrint has a broader indication than Oncotype DX by including both ER‫‏‬positive and ER
negative patients and has been endorsed by the FDA for utilization as a prognostic test

The Go-Between And Lolita Are Two Novels That Challenged
The Go Between and Lolita are two novels that challenged childhood innocence and sexual
experience. Childhood innocence is tested by child life experiences. Innocence can be depicted as the
quality of ignorance. In this case, childhood innocence is portrayed through the ignorance of sex and
maturation. Sexual Relationships between adolescents and adults are taboo and immoral. These
relations usually have undesirable consequences for both parties. This paper will focus on the
similarities and differences of two novels, in exploring sexual relations, childhood innocence and the
significances of these relations. In Valdimir Nabokov s Lolita, Dolores Haze, also known as Lolita, is

In both these novels, the childhood innocence and experience were targets of the relationships and
eventually lead to the consequences of the character s lives.
The sexual relationships between the characters is one of the main themes that place in both Lolita and
The Go Between. In The Go Between, Leo Colston is a sensitive introverted character. As we know,
his crush on Marian was the primary influence on the choice of becoming a go between. Marian s
main target was Leo s emotional state. Leo was emotionally attached to adults. He does not fit in
anywhere, he is an innocent boy who does not want to viewed as an innocent child. Marian knowing
of Leo s innocence as well as his crush on her, she used this to her advantage, even though it was
wrong. Her being too blinded by love, she did not realize how greatly traumatizing Leo s future would
turn out to be. Later, you can see the effects of Leo being stuck in between a forbidden love. Causing
the emotional and mental state of Leo to deteriorate, as seen here: Ted s outburst had almost
obliterated Marians: it had finished off the demolition of my temporary emotional structure (Hartley
212). Following this, he became paranoid and scared, getting into his head, that Marian would tell
everyone about how childish he is and a shylock.
In contrast, Dolores Haze, has a different kind of relationship with the adult character, Humbert. They
have a physical sexual relationship. Humbert is a mentally

Essay On Sarty In William Faulkner s Barn Burning
Barn Burning (1939) by William Faulkner is a short story set during the Dust Bowl, a time of
overexploited soil and bad weather conditions caused by the rapid industrialisation that had taken
place in the preceding years. It follows a family of farmers in the Southern region of the United States
who are going to their new house after the father, Abner, has been accused of burning the barn where
they were working, and has been then expelled from the country for doing so. The main issue in the
story is faced by the son, Sarty, who is struggling between turning his father in and follow the rules of
justice, or stand by his family despite knowing that it means breaking the law. Thus, the action is
executed by Abner whilst the mental reflection is realized by Sarty, making it difficult to determine
who is the protagonist. The aim of this essay is to study the transformation Sarty experiences, hence

Pride In Desiree s Baby By Kate Chopin
Armand Aubigny s Pride in Desiree s Baby by Kate Chopin
Through history, we have always yearned independence and equality as human beings. Undoubtedly,
Kate Chopin is an extraordinary example She has landed a commendable place among American
writers worthy of recognition. Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1850, Kate was raised by strong women
who taught her the value of an education. Her family gave her a revolutionary vision and a feminist
personality, but it was her talented and passionate skills in writing who gave her an individual voice.
During her personal life, Mrs. Chopin built a family of her own, but [she] became a widow at age
thirty two, with the responsibility of raising six children. She never remarried (Koloski). Ten years
after her husband s death, Kate wrote a short story named Desiree s Baby. A few years passed, and
Chopin s short story was finally published in Vogue among others. Its strong message about
controversial issues such as racism and discrimination of females earned her acclamatory fame and
acknowledgment. By the time of her death, Kate Chopin had already written about a hundred short
stories and two novels. At the age of fifty four, she passed away in her native St. Louis leaving her
legacy to be studied and awarded for the rest of the world (Koloski). Until this day, Desiree s Baby is
one of the most distinguishable works of her career.

Notes On Romeo And Adolescent

Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot
Waiting for Godot Is a play where time and memory along with other things is of importance. Each of
the characters introduces time and memory in their own way; for example, Vladimir, also known as
Didi and Mr. Albert, is a man who is seen as the one who is more mature, responsible, and intelligent.
Although he tends to remember more than the rest of the characters, he often believes that his mind is
playing tricks on him. Another main character Estragon, known as Gogo, is a man who is seen as
weak, helpless, and in need of protection by his friend Vladimir. Each night Estragon decides to sleep
in a ditch where he manages to get beat up. His memory is not so great and seems to only remember
what is being told to him at that given moment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then he played the fool I remember that. But when was it . (Beckett) Vladimirs ability to remember
some of yesterdays doings and consequences and mention it in the present gives them hope that
yesterday was real and that a new day has begun, so that Godot can probably show up. Moreover,
although it is not clearly defined if Godot will ever show his presence or not, the fact that the boy is
bringing a message to DiDi and GoGo shows a bit of hope that just maybe Godot will really come
tomorrow.
Third, the changes in Pozzo and Lucky between the first and second act do contribute to a feeling of
hopelessness not only in the play but to the readers as well. The hopelessness can be found in Pozzo s
condition that declines from one day to the next. For example when Pozzo loses his eyesight and says,
I use to have wonderful sight and proceeds to say, I woke up one fine day as blind as a fortune.
Sometimes I wonder if I m not still asleep . (Beckett) The fact that Pozzo loses his eyesight from one
day to another symbolizes how his position is no longer as high as it was. Before he loses his sight, he
is the one that is seen as the master, the one who takes control of and abuses lucky in every way
possible. However when the situation changes and turns the opposite direction he no longer has the
ability to be as cruel for now he has to rely and depend on Lucky for guidance with the same rope he
used to yank him with. For Pozzo says to

Sistema De Casta
Casta was a hierarchical system of race classification created by Spanish elites in Hispanic America
during the 18th century. These Castas were created for and by the Spanish elites, solely for the
purpose of showing the massive inequality in the area. The Sistema de Castas was used in 17th and
18th centuries in Spanish America and Spanish Philippines to describe and socially rank the mixed
race people who were born during the post conquest period. In the 18th century Casta paintings were
used to show a myriad of possible ethnic combinations. There were basic Castas, but countless
intermediate kinds were produced from the mixing of existing mixtures. Casta paintings help

The black boy seems to be the offspring of these two individuals which shows that intermingling was
common. They also seem to be in Europe due to the European influences seen throughout the photo,
such as the outfits the men are wearing. In Casta painting number 5, Jose Alcibar shows a black man
wearing a black European styled hat along with a red European style jacket and matching breeches. In
the photo, he is seen holding a Morisca woman s hand. Morisca s were former Muslims who
converted to Christianity after Spain outlawed the public practice of Islam. Morisca s are also 1/8th
African and 7/8th Spanish. The Spanish (Morisca) woman is wearing a dress that is made of a
stunning brocade with a hem that is surrounded by gold. Also, the woman s dress has a large hoop.
Moving along to the right side of the photo you can see the Mullato boy riding a goat. The concept
behind the Black man holding the Spanish ladies hand is to show that they are a couple whom
produced a mixed child that is half black and half white (Mullato). They seemed to be pictured in a
European style environment, due to the fact that Moriscos were prominent in Europe. A situation like
this would not be common in the colonial era. In fact, it would be very rare to see such mixing of races
being painted. This shows the mixing of races were starting to be seen as a norm. In Casta painting
number 10 it shows an Indian male riding a horse, whom seems to be wearing

Essay on Unsustainable Debt
Unsustainable Debt
Many ordinary citizens today in developed countries such as Canada acknowledge the abject poverty
affecting citizens of various African countries and other undeveloped nations. However, exactly why

The origins of the debt crisis lie in the beginning of the Cold War era. An era in which the two
superpowers of the world sought to gain alliances with as many nations as possible. One such method
of attracting allegiance was to provide military aid and economic aid
(termed defense support by the US)[5] to countries such as Taiwan and
South Korea that lay directly in the path of communist efforts. One such individual involved in
defense support projects was Secretary of
State John Foster Dulles, who quickly realized what a disadvantageous situation the American
government had found themselves in by offering only military support. Dulles stated that he was being
forced to defend the interests of the US with one arm tied behind his back; namely the nations
economic strength. US military power the other arm was not enough and was indeed largely
unsuccessful[6].
The Development Loan Fund, founded, sponsored, and funded by the
Central Intelligence Agency s Center For International Affairs at

Dulles[7]. Milikan Max, a former CIA officer and the director of the Center For International Affairs

Analysis Of George Churchill s The Great Gatsby
Exordium On behalf of Mrs. Churchill, the Churchill family, the British nation, and those around the
world, we bid farewell to a great man, leader, and friend. This day I am both honored and saddened. I
am honored to have this opportunity to highlight his life. I am saddened that the world will no longer
have him. A man who brought his country and its citizens through terrible destruction. Churchill was a
friend with whom the differences between us were vast. Our stance and opinions regarding our nations
and the world, no closer. They divided not only us but also our people and prolonged the possibility of
world peace. Churchill persevered with tenacity and vigor to change my mind, to no avail. Every

People turned to him in times of trouble to find a compassionate, courageous human being that cared
about them and their well being. Churchill had a gift to bring peace and unity through his excellent
speaking ability and genuine concern for his common man. He instilled trust and belief in people that
the government figures honestly cared. With this, Churchill offered hope and conveyed confidence to
his fellow Britons. He displayed his famous V hand gesture to represent that he wanted to be
victorious. He would often survey the damage from the daily bombings and console the weary. On a
morning after a night bombing, Churchill watched a woman pulled from the rubble. The woman asked
Churchill, When are we going to bomb Berlin? Churchill replied, You leave that to me. He gave hope
and confidence to the people who turned to him. In doing so, he created unity, courage, and peace to
those around him. Churchill made every effort to offer optimism to the people of Britain and the
world. He truly wanted to protect the citizens of his homeland from harm and the tragedy that loomed
around them. He endured in times of despair. It is tragic that this war has begun and caused such
destruction and chaos. Britain alone has suffered from the loss of thousands of homes and lives. I
believe in freedom for all, and I also believe in supporting a man. His great courage and strength have

The Cultural Differences Of Athens And Sparta
Unlike many other ancient civilizations of the Near East, Greek history has a start like no other. The
Greek civilization was based upon city states, two in particular; Athens and Sparta. These two
dominants in Greek history differ from any other near east society because of their historical
background, geographical region and the cultural differences they display. The Athenian city state was
an open democratic maritime state, dominating Attica and supporting commercial and cultural
expansion. The Spartan city state had a tightly organized, militaristic, land based state, dominating the
peloponnesian peninsula. The Near east was a simple time to be alive, they had a small population and
little revolutionary advancements recorded. Early Civilization brought strangers together and
separated classes of people living side by side into distinct semi autonomous groupings (Sherman,
McNeill 17) unlike the civilization of the greek society. Athens was dominant toward the end of the
5th century. It was located in Attica. This location was a major difference from the societies of the
near east because they had no major rivers to get fresh water from and had no mountain ranges for
protection. This was a defence that many near east civilizations were built upon. Due to the lack of
natural defence the city state built long walls to help protect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Duality In The Importance Of Being Earnest
Louie Decena Jr. Professor Graham English 206 12 July 2015 Playing on the Disinclination of Oscar
Wilde s The Importance of Being Ernest In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest, Wilde,
satirically, opines the earnest concern within Victorian society of the 19th century. He plays with
proper social norms of the upper class and openly criticizes the character archetypes of the period
through a set of unbelievable coincidences, waggish deceptions, and fallacious identities. The
Victorian value for earnestness plays out through the story and provides a reason there exists a duality
among the characters to escape the repressiveness of the societal roles. Clearly, Algernon, Jacks,
Cecily, and Gwendolen sustain their chosen society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Oscar Wilde s The Uncensored Picture of Dorian Gray, Wilde writes of Society, civilized society at
least, is never very ready to believe anything to the detriment of those who are both rich and
charming. It feels instinctively that manners are of more importance than morals, and the highest
respectability is of less value in its opinion than the possession of a good chef (Uncensored 173).
Algernon particularly mentions that his aunt deliberately arranges a married woman to sit next to him;
therefore, he has to suffer from her immoral behavior of flirting with her husband. Under this
circumstance, Algernon s lies rationalize the creation of his fantasy friend; and, then functions as a
tool to temporarily liberate him from the burden of city life and hide from the crowd. Algernon s
comical behaviors not only successfully bring readers joy, but are crucial to the play as a whole. Oscar
Wilde uses Algernon as a representative to criticize the aristocracy through selfishness, arrogance and
hypocrisy presented by Algernon. When Algernon is at Jack s home, his attitude of talking to Jack
reflects his selfishness and arrogance. Wilde portrays how Algernon devours all these muffins from
Jack s perspective, Well, that is no reason why you should eat them all in that greedy way (Wilde
1766). Jack s comment on Algernon s behavior satirizes the selfishness among aristocracy. Later on,
Algernon demands Jack to stop eating muffins, Jack, you are at the muffins again! I wish you wouldn
t. There are only two left. I told you I was particularly fond of muffins! (Wilde 1766). Algernon s
selfishness and immaturity reflect his fondness and desire towards muffins driving him to finish all of
them alone and forbid everybody else to eat them. Algernon instills his command by tone and action,
however, and not by elegance for his

Marketing Plan For The Sonic 1000
Introduction Sonic s marketing plan identifies two consumer and three business markets for the sale of
its Sonic 1000, a new state of the art multimedia smartphone. The consumer markets consist of
professionals and students; corporate users, entrepreneurs, and medical users are the business markets.
The Sonic 1000 is a single device with full functional communication, information storage and
exchange, organization, and entertainment. It furnishes multifunction within one device instead of
multiple devices for different functions. This case study reveals which markets Sonic should target by
examining the factors influencing consumer purchasing, inspecting the variables in segmenting
markets, and evaluating the attractiveness of the target markets. Consumer Purchase Influencers
Cultural Culture is a major influencer in consumer purchasing. These factors are often inherent in our
values and decision processes (4 major factors that influence consumer buyer bahaviour, n.d.). A
person s values are instilled on them by family, teachers, and other key people throughout their life. In
most societies, there is social stratification or social classes. Those who share the same social class

Historical Fiction Book Report:
The Hope by: Herman Wouk
The book The Hope is the story of Zev Barak, Benny Luria, Sam Pasternak, Kishote, four of Israel s
army officers during the major battles and struggles of Israel from 1948 until 1967. The War of
Independence, The Six Day War, and the 1956 Sinai Campaigns were all major events that had major
effects on Israel.
The book starts out with the war of independence in the town of Latrun with the Haganah 7th brigade.
The battle of Latrun was a battle that took place in beginning phases of the war. This battle was a
failure to the Haganah 7th brigade, which was newer formed unit. The main road between Tel Aviv
and Jerusalem which was commanded by the Latrun fortress. Arab forces were trying to take over the
fortress and deny jews from entering into Jerusalem. This particular battle and the events depicted
around and about the battle in the book are events and occurrences of actual history but it is a
simplified version of the events, of course. But the things that are not actual or real things in history
are the characters. Sam Pasternak is the fictional character used to illustrate the tasks of Colonel
Chaim Herzog which was a Israeli army officer who became an army general, later a popular historian
of the military, and then took on Israel s envoy to the UN, he even took on two terms as President of
Israel. The story of Burma Road in the book, like the battle of Latrun, is simplified. All though, in the

Giving more responsibility to workers at these facilities gave a high value for Quality before Quantity.
Employee involvement was a key issue in product improvement because the line workers knew much

Quality Circles as mentioned above was the key to success for better involvement of employees with

Russian Duels In A Hero Of Our Time And Eugene Onegin
Narrative Russian writers seem to enjoy inserting a duel in their literature. There s Pierre s duel with
Dolohov in Tolstoy s War and Peace; there s Onegin s duel with Lensky in Pushkin s Eugene Onegin;
there s Pechorin s duel with Grushnitsky in Lermontov s A Hero of Our Time, and Bazarov duel with
Pavel in Turgenev s Fathers and Sons. In this paper, however, making comparisons between the duels
from A Hero of Our Time and Eugene Onegin will be the primary focus. When it comes to deciding if
dueling was a noble form of conflict resolution, both writers seem to indirectly portray to the reader
that duels are unimpressive and ineffective. Both writers emphasize on the challenges that could
happen before, during, and after a Russian duel. If the writers wanted to portray to the readers that
duels were honorable, then they would have not displayed the challenges that each character faced
while they participated in the duel. A similarity between the two duels of A Hero of Our Time and
Eugene Onegin is who ultimately ends up being killed. Both Lermontov and Onegin kill a character
that was foolish, and who, perhaps, should not have died. In A Hero of Our Time, Grushnitsky
foolishly challenges Pechorin after mistakenly assuming that Pechorin snuck into Princess Mary s
residence to see her when she was home alone. However, Pechorin had actually snuck into the
residence to see Vera, but Grushnitsky, blinded by jealousy, does not realize the truth. During the duel,
Pechorin gains

Warrior In The Middle Ages
Introduction
When we hear the word warrior, we think of someone who has great strength, endurance, and agility.
A warrior can be defined as either a male or female who exhibits one or more of these characteristics.
But, can we truly classify a warrior as a hero? Looking into the Middle ages, there are some great
warriors, male and female, who have graced us with their presence in Medieval History. In fact, some
that come to mind are: King Arthur, Joan of Arc, and Robin Hood.
Many women in the Middle ages are not seen as warriors, this title was given to the men. Even
though, many women during this time; despite the gender difference, were included in the ranks of
many mercenary and national armies . These women were fearless fighters and defended their
homesteads and country if warranted. Women who took on the role as warriors, were seen in a total
different light as natural women , they were expected to abandon their true identities and take on a
more ruthless, and masculine role . In fact, many women began to dress like men in order to fight
alongside them in battle. As the times began to change, so did the ways of thinking. As more women
began to join the battlefields, the more they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men were called Knights and they were referred to as mounted or armored soldiers who generally
rode horses but, this was seen to be connected to nobility and social status . But, the questions that
remain unanswered are, how is a man distinguished or noble enough to be called a knight? Does being
a Knight entitle a man to be classified as a warrior first? In the early part of the Middle ages, any
warrior who distinguished himself in combat may have been considered a knight . But, later in the
Middle ages, the title became less prominent because in order to be labeled as a knight, the warrior
had to demonstrate great courage and strength in battle and that in itself, qualifies a warrior as a

How Lucky You Are by Depi Alper
How lucky you are?
How Lucky You Are is a short story by Debi Alper and was published in 2010. The story begins with
in medias res which means that the story is starting in a midpoint and it is about a boy named Max and
an Iranian girl named Ishraqi. Max has a crush on Ishraqi. The situation between max and Ishraqi
changes the way that Max treats his mom. The story takes place in Britain and the plot of the story
takes place in one day. The story is told in a third person view, and has an open end.
The story has 3 parts:
The first part is based on a flashback, where we get to know when Max s dad left the family. The story

Max is turned at last when Max comes home after the loss of Ishraqi; When Max arrived home late,
his mother took one look at his face and bit off the angry lecture she had been preparing. Instead, she
folded her son in her arms and waited for the time he would talk to her. Line 200, page 5.
The main theme in the story is that you should appreciate what you have. In the beginning Max didn t
appreciate his family or the benefits and opportunities he has. He argued with his mother and didn t
take his school serious but at the end he had an eye opener.
A characterizing of Max would be that he has a flexible personality. Max is an annoying boy but also a
really nurturing one. He doesn t care about the people around him. In the first part of the story, the
reader realizes that Max can be a free spirit and creative boy with a free and creative imagination. Max
used to be a happy teenager, until his father left the whole family behind, because of that Max lost a
bit of himself and he also lost his enthusiasm of participating in class, in general being a passionate
student. Max is living a closed lift it s like he lives in his own little bubble. He is not doing anything
meaningful in his life, just existing and observing. On the outside he seems like a bad guy but very
deep inside he is a boy who wants to find his passion, enthusiasm and maybe love again, you see that

The Purpose Of A Case Study
Media research indicates that journalistic standards and practices are socially constructed systems,
which deal with complex work processes by organising news flow and explicating roles and
competencies (Tuchman 1978; Fishman 1980). The case study method is regarded as a valid tool to
analyse a complex issue. A case study is defined as an empirical inquiry that investigates a
contemporary phenomenon within its real life context (Yin 2003: 13). It is best used to understand
complex social and organisational issues. Case study evidence to answer research questions and
contribute to theory development originates from a variety of sources, such as documentation, archival
records, interviews (qualitative or quantitative) and observation. In this ... Show more content on

The second is that it is not easily open to generalisation but if it is contextualised and carefully
described then others can consider its usefulness in other contexts and examples (Wisker 2001:191).
Finally, Dominick and Wimmer argue that case studies are likely to be time consuming and may
occasionally produce massive quantities of data that are hard to summarise (1987: 165). With regard
to this study, I would like to argue that the strengths of observations outweigh the weaknesses. In
addition, there is simply no other method that applies better to what I want to investigate. The findings
are not representative of all newsrooms experimenting with convergence since the research is derived
from one case. Therefore I do not wish to generalise any findings from this case study. I tried to
provide readers with good raw material for their own generalising because the reader can make his or
her own generalisations and interpret it their way (Stake, 1995:102). However, the findings will offer
insights that could be probed for future

Who I Am As An Individual
This paper discusses who I am as an individual, through gender, culture, my worldviews and the
difference between me and other people, why Social Work interests me and what fit and proper means
through the Social Workers Registration Board. The word culture can mean many things to different
people over the world, most of us are who we are today because of the different cultures we have been
exposed to over the years through, friends, family and community to name a few. A brief definition of
the word culture means the total of the inherited ideas, beliefs, values, and knowledge, which
constitute the shared bases of social action (Culture, 2012). Many of us would share a belief and/or
view on situations based on our culture and what we have been exposed to. For example, I discovered
some of my culture, values and idea through family, but because I left home at a young age of sixteen,
I then learnt different cultures, ideas, beliefs, through friends, community, work and study. As I
became older my culture slowly changed as I married, changed country and had a family of my own.
Therefore, my culture experiences kept changing with me, for example, my study culture , turned into
primary school and kindy . Now I am a mother I try and instil some of that into my children as well as
allowing them to create their own beliefs and values through their own culture, like school and
recreational activities. I believe I knew my gender at a young age, I cannot really say for

Free Euthanasia Essay
The word quot;euthanasia quot; is Greek, which means quot;a good death. quot; The issue is far more
complex than what a dictionary s explanation is. The issue of euthanasia is one of the most discussed
topics in all of the United States Congress. US government agencies, legislators and leaders have
attempted unsuccessfully to stop assisted suicide nationwide by barring the use of federally controlled
substances at lethal levels intended for mercy killing. There are many issues surrounding the act of
assisted suicide that are yet to be resolved in the United States. In the near future Congress should

After a couple of months or years, then that is the time when the person can decide wither to end their
life. Assisted suicide should be the very last resort. If someone wants to end their life by means of a
doctor then they should be allowed to do it.
US pathologist Dr. Jack Kevorkian, who by his own admission has assisted 130 people with their own
suicides, has been the target of considerable media and government attention. Kevorkian is the leading
quot;right to die doctor in the US because of his work providing lethal medication to patients so that
they may commit or pursue their own suicides. But the release of a videotape by Kevorkian in
January, 1999, showing the physician injecting lethal medication into a patient in Michigan has
changed the nature of the controversy from the right to die to medically assisted euthanasia.
Kevorkian is charged with murder and faces trial next spring. Dr. Kevorkian is the first known US
physician to carry out an act of mercy killing.
In conclusion, I think that it is legal for someone to end their life only if they have a certain condition
that is un curable or if the person is suffering tremendously. A doctor who specializes in this area
should be the only one to perform the practice. It should be illegal for non professionals who carry out
this act in their homes. For minors under eighteen years of age, the parents are the only one who can

Critically Appraise A Popular Leadership Theory
Leadership is a concept that is constantly discussed yet there is seldom agreement about what it is.
Even though most agree leadership is crucial to success of any people, project or venture. People
define leadership differently and often times misconstrue leadership with management. Leadership
provides the vision and focuses on the people while management focuses on objectives and tasks. It is
however valid that a budding leader may sometimes need to act as both a leader an as a manager
whenever necessary.
Over the years, in an attempt to define leadership and reach a consensus on what it is, various
leadership theories have ensued. Some leadership theories include; great man, transactional,

If the competent and qualified physician is leader of a public health or healthcare institution and he is
deemed a great leader based on his charisma and ambition, when there is a challenge such as an
outbreak and he is able to proffer solution. He will be respected and trusted more. However, a demerit
to this approach is that it is too simplistic and may prevent contribution from other qualified members
of the system. Hence serving to demotivate them at their work because they may feel irrelevant. Also,
the problem of succession quickly comes to mind, so in the event of loss or absence of the great leader
, there will be a problem with replacing him and the institution may suffer. This leads to another
demerit of the theory. Based on the fact that a leader had to be born that way, there is no way to teach
leadership to another person or improve one s own level of leadership. More recent theories and
occurrence has invalidated this claim.
Much of the great man theory praises characteristics that are majorly associated with natural male
characteristics and used male examples in its explanation. In orders words, women cannot be leaders.
But this has been negated, as there were females who successfully led men to wars in history. An
example is Ashanti (a woman) who led her people to a successful war). In recent years, we now have

47 RBI, .344 BA), while also leading the AL with 54 runs scored and 38 walks with a ridiculous .450
on base percentage.
The Yankees lead all of MLB with a +115 run differential (Houston is second at +98), and their
offense is first in home runs (102), runs scored (353), RBI (335), slugging percentage (.476), on base
percentage (.351) and OPS (.827), despite playing four less games than the Astros. New York is also
sixth in walks (237).
As impressive as the Yankees offense has been, it should get even better with the return of first

pushing for a promotion from Triple A to take over third base from veteran Chase Headley, who is one
of the few weak links in the Yankees lineup.

Scientific Revolution
Kuhn used the Chemical Revolution as one of his primary examples of a scientific revolution and
based on what was read and discussed in class, I agree with Kuhn s analysis. Historical examples of
Kuhn s account of the chemical revolution in the Structure of Scientific Revolution are exemplified in
the Phlogiston theory, its period as a paradigm, point of normal science, and eventually the theory s
abandonment for Lavoisier s discovery of oxygen as a point of Scientific Revolution.
In Kuhn s Structure of Scientific Revolution, he presents that science is a cycle that has a paradigm,
which begins with a period of normal science, a crisis, revolution, then a paradigm change.
In regards to Kuhn s SSR, the phlogiston theory can be defined as ... Show more content on

Lavoisier disavowed the phlogiston theory and paradigm through his memoir, insisting that the
phlogiston theory was unclear. Lavoisier describes the situation as he states in his Memoirs that the
majority of metallic calces are not to be reduced, that is, returned to the metallic state, without the
immediate contact of a carbonaceous material or any substance whatsoever containing what we call
phlogiston and therefore the fact that this fluid is obtained as fied air gives us no right to conclude that
it existed in this form in the metallic calx before its combination with the carbon (Lavoisier 164).
Lavoisier declared that in attacking here Stahl s doctrine my object is not to substitute a rigorously
demonstrated theory but solely a hypothesis which appears to me more probable, more comfortable to
the laws of nature, and which appears to me to contain fewer forced explanations and fewer
contradictions (Lavoisier 173). He is declaring that his discovery of oxygen is more legitimate than
Stahl s (also the phlogiston paradigm) theory of phlogiston. Lavoisier grew support when he released
his remarks opposing the phlogiston theory (Perrin 47). Furthermore, other experiments were
conducted on the basis of the phlogiston theory, and complications arose from this. Experimenters
were seeing that the theory had some complications when they conducted experiment, producing
incompatible effects than the theory had suggested (Perrin). Also, the release of the Method of
Chemical Nomenclature, released in 1787 by Lavoisier, Guyton de Morveau, Fourcroy Berthollet, that
allowed for Lavoisier s scientific theories to be accepted and utilized

Persuasive Essay On Pompeii
Pompeii is one of the frequently visited landmarks of the roman s extravagant past. Over 2.5 million
of tourists yearly travel to the landmark to scrutinize the ash buried deceased roman people and
animals for over 250 years. Bringing the Italian Government millions of dollar s (US) from tourism.
Giving the world some of it historical culture to fantasize as the site is further excavated. However,
according to some historians and scientist all the tourism comes with a cost. The walls of the famous
city are disintegrating from torrential rain and tourist waste.

For 250 years, the government annually makes 30 million dollars (US) s from Pompeii. If the tourist

In addition to the government losing 30 million dollars. If Pompeii is closed off, since the site has not

popular seem to be the documentaries the most recent Pompeii: The Mystery of the People
Frozen in Time (2013), a BBC One drama documentary presented by Dr. Margaret Mountford

discovered artifacts or buildings. So the public won t know about anything knew about
Pompeii.
Ironicly, there s no need to keep the public away from the site. The damage to the walls was not
caused by humans at all, according to an article; The primary cause (of the ) collapses was days of
torriential rain that taxed the city s draingage system and may have broken down some of the ancient
walls and weakend the walls ( Lobell, Jarrett). Because of the torrential rain

Exponential Growth In The Malhusian Economy
The Malthusian Model compares growth rates between population and means of subsistence and
describes what conditions characterize a Malthusian Economy. If a population is given the opportunity
to double in size every twenty five years, it would exhibit exponential growth. However, the means of
subsistence do not grow exponentially but arithmetically (Elwell 2001, 5). The differing patterns of
growth allow for a large gap between population and production to grow over time. In a Malthusian
Economy, one would expect to see population and means of subsistence each grow marginally and
alternately with neither exhibiting significant sustained growth. In pre industrial Europe, we saw
exactly this. Humans ability to produce food and children are not equal and it is through Malthusian
population checks, without significant increases in technology, that populations can be sustained in the
long run (Elwell 2001, 5). Population checks would make it so the population would not grow far
beyond the populations given means of subsistence. However, with the Industrial Revolution,
agricultural productivity could increase in efficiency enough to sustain an exponentially growing
population. Without technology and without positive checks, population would grow at the same
exponential rate and means of subsistence would grow at the arithmetic rate, leading to an
unsustainable population (Elwell 2001, 5). In summation, population grows at an exponential rate,
which is controlled by positive

Subject: Boeing Legal Impact Analysis
Boeing: An Overview
Boeing is the largest aerospace company and the largest manufacturer of commercial and military
aircraft in the world. Boeing s military aircraft come equipped with missiles, satellite, launch vehicles
and advanced information and communication systems. Boeing is also the number one U.S. exporter
when it comes to sales. Boeing s aircraft are flown each and every day, all across the United States and
the world. Because their products are used so heavily, and daily for that matter, product liability is a
major concern for Boeing. The fact that their products interact directly with the men and women who
fly these planes, and that nearly every flight has an average of 200 or more people on board, these
products need to be safe and thoroughly tested. On that note, health and safety is another major area of
legal concern for Boeing. If a fatal accident were to occur, wrongful death cases are sure to come up if
the manufacturer is found at fault. These cases can cost the company upwards of 100 million dollars in
revenue, not to mention the bad publicity that is derived from them as well. One must take into
account that the amount of fatal accidents that occur where the manufacturer is at fault is on the
decline, with only 20 percent of fatal accidents occurring due to a mechanical failure of some sort,
where as pilot error attributes

Essay on The Origins of Akhenaten
The Origins of Akhenaten
There is much that is known about Akhenaten the heretic pharaoh. More lies in speculation. Since his
time, the Amarna period is one the ancient Egyptians themselves wished to forget much about
Akhenaten remains unknown. What we do know is often confusing, different hypothesis piled upon
each other make it difficult to distinguish what is fact and what speculation.
We do know that Akhenaten, or Amenhotep IV, was the second son of Amenhotep III, an 18th Dynasty
pharaoh and his Queen Tiye. Although we know he had an older brother Thutmose and several sisters,
he was never shown in family portraits or records, the only documented proof we have linking him to
Amenhotep III is a wine seal with his name and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, in some portraits of Akhenaten and his family usually during the early period of his reign, his
daughters and sometimes his wife Nefertiti are shown as sharing some of his deformities, his
daughters certainly are usually shown as having highly unusual head shapes . Since the shapes of the
heads of the princesses correspond with that of Tutankhamen s, it is possible that they really were
result of a genetic defect on Akhenaten part, though they were no doubt exaggerated.
Another factor supporting the theory that Akhenaten suffered from Marfan syndrome is the unusually
informal settings in which both Akhenaten s and Tutankhamen s families are portrayed. The royal
family is shown as always touching, images of Tutankhamen and his wife Ankhesenamen also show
the couple as always touching each other. This could quite possibly suggest that besides being a close
family, Akhenaten and Tutankhamen may have been blind to some degree, due to ailments such as
cataracts, iridodensis, detached retinas or glaucoma; all symptoms of Marfan s .
On the other hand, there may have been nothing wrong with Akhenaten, Tutankhamen, his supposed
son does have an irregularly shaped skull but it is not enough to be called abnormal. It is indeed
possible that the stylization of the pharaoh in this way was an artistic expression of the religious
changes taking place during the Amarna period.

The United States Economy As The Global Economy
From 2010 until the end of 2014 oil prices remained relatively constant. With very little fluctuation
over these four years, the average price per barrel of oil was around 110 dollars. That price has been
more than cut in half within the past year. The price for United States crude oil is now just 48 dollars a
barrel, the lowest it has been since 2009 (BBC News). So what is the cause for this sudden change and
to what effect will this have on the United States economy as well as the global economy? There are
three core contributors that account for this sudden dip in oil prices. These contributors are a low
demand for oil in many countries, specifically Europe, that is caused by a lack of economic growth,
the increase in The United States oil production, and The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting
Countries (OPEC) increase in oil production. With many of Europe s economically struggling
countries the increase in production of oil which in return yields lower prices has benefitted them.
Europe s weak economy is able to contribute to this drop in oil prices in that Europe s currently low
inflation rate and weak economy has greatly lessened the demand for oil. The lack of demand for oil
in one of the most prominent import continents in the world has forced oil manufactures to lower their
prices in order to retain Europe as a top oil export. Large oil exporters do not want to lose Europe as
an export because that would also mean losing billions of dollars per year.

Grew In My Mind By Carol Ann Duffy
Furthermore, Carol Ann Duffy, portrays the effects of jealousy are progressively destructive, making
the speaker gradually more unstable. Duffy begins the poem by employing a tricolon: A suspicion, a
doubt, a jealousy . The development of insecurity is powerfully portrayed by this line, as the three
emotions implied become stronger. Jealousy is often seen as detrimental and throughout the entirety of
the poem, we see that Medusa slowly declines mentally and physically, making her life almost not
worth living. Grew in my mind could imply that the personified thoughts are consuming her, and that
they are growing like hair from her scalp. It also could hint that the thoughts are gradually engulfing
the speaker, eventually taking control of her whole body. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three verbs used in three different stanzas imply her increasing confidence in her power, and the
progression of her mental deterioration. Glanced implies an accidental, hesitant, quick look at an
object, while stared implies the complete desire and length of the gaze. After glancing at a bee full of
life A dull grey pebble fell to the ground , implying the severity of her power. The monosyllabic
percussive plosives in the words dull grey pebble and ground also suggest the harshness of who the
speaker has now become. Medusa s admiration for these living beings, is her fatal flaw. The use of the
imperative phrase as the final line in the poem look at me now highlights Medusa s hatred for what
she has become, and her cry for pity directed towards her husband. However, the ambiguity of the line
allows for another interpretation: that she craves destruction and wishes that her husband were

Tort Law Cases Essay
Presented are four separate cases that have been argued and settled in a court of law. Each of these
cases represent a different kind of tort, a tort is a civil wrong or wrongful act, which can be either
intentional or accidental, from which injury occurs to another (Hill Hill n.d.). The torts are as listed,
intentional, criminal, negligence, and liability as presented in the four researched cases.
State Rubbish Collectors Ass n v. Siliznoff When a person violates another person s legal rights

The association was held liable for the damages that stemmed from the emotional distress of the
defendant. The plaintiff had caused the defendant to suffer such extreme fright that it compelled him
to either give up the Acme account he had been working in the service area and give to the State
Rubbish Collectors Association back payment or the defendant had to become a member with the
association and pay dues.
The courts ruled that the plaintiff had not right to use such coercive methods when competing for
business and the liability was clear in this circumstance. The defendant was awarded $1250.00 by the
plaintiff for compensatory damages and $4000.00 was awarded by the association for exemplary
damages. Plaintiff attempted to appeal stating the awarded amount was excessive; the courts ruled that
the amount awarded was not excessive and denied the appeal from the plaintiff. No dissenting opinion
was made.
People v. Watson Someone commits a wrongful act and someone is the victim is considered a crime.
The charge is against the defendant and if found to be responsible for the crime the defendant serves a
sentence and pays a fine to the government and possible restitution is paid to the victim of the crime.

Evolving Images In What Is The Self By Mihalyi
The text What is the Self by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi is an interesting reading because it gives
examples in how that self is created and looked at. There is things we pay attention to and attend to
that makes that self . Personal objects, images, household objects, collective representation, and
images of the ideal self, are some general examples that show us that self ; and how these images or
sense of feeling will help us in the future. This essay will explain in specific details the way we
become that self and summarize the reading. The main points in Evolving Images of the Ideal Self is
images that give us clues, who we can be or try to be. Also people create events or copy events, and
try to create a false self. People start giving imagination a new meaning. More than it was reality, it is
more an illusion they created. Mihaly provides the example about sculpture and painting giving us a

could turn to clarify and affirm their identities. People construct their homes with images, icons of
Christ, to remember their values to Jesus Christ. Humans have symbols, images, and accessories that

Sunday he watches football games sitting on the chair. The chair was a reminder of an important
aspect of the self for a different member of the family. (P271) Each day people go home and see these

found out that the car he was driving was stolen. When the police refused to believe his story of being

convinced that her son was lying. She alludes that he is a heavy drinker by asking about how much he
drank when he called her. Skeptical of her own son s stories, she also tells him to just pay the two
dollars for his fine. This shows several things; first, she is extremely wealthy by her lack of sense of
how expensive fines are, and second, getting drunk and having wild nights might be a common
occurrence for Thornhill, as she appears exasperated and used to his unruly behavior. With no one, not
even his closet family, to believe him, Robert Thornhill s reputation began to be destroyed. He had no
power, no title, no reputation to help him when others created an identity for him and based their
judgements off that alone. He essentially lost all of his past self and had zero credibility. When fleeing
from the police, Thornhill attempts to buy a train ticket from a salesman. However, the salesman

Still Life With A Bunch Of Asparagus Analysis
Still Life with a Basket of Fruit and a Bunch of Asparagus was painted by Louise Moillon. The oil
painting is of a simple still life of a basket of fruits in a rather dark room with a bunch of asparagus on
the right of the basket. It was painted in 1630. To the right of the painting there is an oil painting titled
Panthea, Cyrus, and Araspas which was painted by Laurent de La Hyre in 1631/4. To the left of the
painting there is another oil painting which is titled Landscape with Saint John on Patmos which was
painted by Nicolas Poussin in 1640. The painting makes use of implied line, the majority of the

The implied light helps to show the organic shape of the peaches especially. This is very obvious
because there is clearly a light shining on the fruit from the right side, and it can easily be inferred that
this painting is supposed to be located somewhere inside from the pure black background and wooden
table. Another point that it likely isn t natural lighting is that it looks like the light source is really
close to the fruit and radiating from one small spot, like a light bulb. Many of the shapes in this
painting are very organic, for they are, in fact, organic items. While they may be organic, they also
have a somewhat geometric shape to them. There are a lot of perfect, or almost perfect, clusters of
circles together. The fact that most of the fruit are circle shapes gives it more of a geometric feel. The
parts that are the most organic shaped are the leaves. The mass of the basket of fruit is all implied
mass. The painting itself is completely flat and there is no actual mass to the piece other than the flat
surface that it was painted

  • 2. How To Write An Essay On The Chocolate War Trinity is especially dangerous for Jerry when he just says No ... to selling chocolates for the school. Seriously. His No! gets him in trouble with The Vigils, an underground student group that controls the other kids at school with mafia style tactics. Jerry s stand against selling chocolate also gets him trouble with Brother Leon, the Voldemort esque schoolmaster. Before The Chocolate War, Cormier published a couple of adult novels, which didn t make much of a splash. With this book, he really found his audience, and went on to publish over a dozen young adult books. His dark portrayals of teen life get lots of love from critics, teachers, and teens alike. The song totally makes us think of the novel s villainous Brother Leon, who tortures kids with his sarcasm, manipulation, and his teacher s pointer at every turn. Which brings us to why you might care about The Chocolate War. Maybe you ve had some teachers like the kind Pink Floyd sings about in this and other songs. The Chocolate War shows how hard this is on students (as if you didn t already know), but also what this type of school situation teaches the students experiencing it. According to this novel, it teaches things like how to use violence, intimidation, and manipulation. It turns kids against each other and creates a really sick overall environment. But, you probably already knew that. The important thing about this novel is that somebody (our hero Jerry) tries to change things by saying No, by refusing to go along and do what he s told. Not to give anything away, but this doesn t work out all that well for him. The novel leaves it to us, the readers, to decide whether taking a stand is worth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Muhamad Indrawan Yudha Prawira 669710252 Police Robots with Lethal Weapons, between Ethic and Dilemma Protecting people s safety in the United States is the main duty of Police Department. They use many ways to deal with it. One of the controversial issue in the police department is equipping the robot with lethal weapons. Many people contrast with the idea since they think it will remove the human element from policing. However, there are a lot of people also support the idea. Police Department should not be allowed to carry police robot with any lethal weapons because robots also have weaknesses, it can only be used by military forces in the battlefield, and also because even a person who killed five police officers deserves due process. There are at least three main reasons that police robot should not be allowed to carry lethal weapons. Firstly, robots also have weaknesses. Indeed, we agreed that robots were simply another tool in the police arsenal, but they which have been used by police since the 1990s, are typically outfitted with cameras. The view of a robot is limited by the camera he carrying on, and also limit the point of view of the police officers who control it. They cannot sense a dangerous momentum in the crime location. • 6. Thin Democracy Thin democracy can be considered as the overview of how democracies elect their leaders. Joseph Schumpeter describes thin democracy to have free, fair, and regular elections. On the other hand, there are ten thick dimensions to what is considered a liberal democracy. Thick democracy has characteristics such as a large amount of individual freedoms in terms of speech, belief, and opinion, pluralism in regards to media and information outlets, and equality of all citizens under the law. The distinction between the two are important because they both present two different results when being established. Thin democracy is malleable and can multiply at a good rate. However, this only gives an opportunity for good values to be established and does not ensure the same perks as thick democracy. Thick democracy is slowly forged with liberal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The relationship between liberalism and democracy is that both should attempt to be intertwined. Liberalism is like the roof and walls which protect the citizens from government and democracy is the structure and foundations which keeps order. It is completely possible to have one without the other, but the results are not always good. As stated in the second reading, the separation of the two would result in forms of illiberal democracy or liberal autocracy. Illiberal democracy would have the electoral process of a thin democracy, but will likely overlook protecting the citizens rights and focus on accumulating power. A liberal autocracy may not allow much say into who or what is spearheading the nation, but will allow many qualities seen in a thick democracy. Illiberal democracies may also eventually spiral into disarray along with horizontal and vertical usurpation. Liberal autocracies would have freedom of speech, a fair judicial system, and even individual freedoms for beliefs, culture, and religion. • 8. The Importance Of The Youth Justice System This essay will introduce the youth justice system within England and Wales. The essay will highlight key pieces of youth justice legislation and it will comment on how they affect practice. The principles of the system will be presented and discussed before it is argued that one principle has precedence over the others. There will be use of a case study in which to express the ideology that one principle should be the precedence of the youth justice system. The youth justice system deals with young people under 18 years of age who break the law. The Youth Justice Board for England and Wales (YJB) is a public body developed under Section 41 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 to oversee the youth justice system for England and Wales (Youth Justice Board for England and Wales, 2016). The Youth Justice System carry out the processes for prosecution, conviction and punishment. Within the youth justice system, there are extensive considerations made when young people offend. These considerations can be thought to be principles, which are the fundamental base of something (Oxford Dictionary, 2016), in this case, the criminal justice system. The principles include (although are not limited to) risk assessment, public protection, punishment, rehabilitation, justice and welfare. The prime focus of this essay will be to determine whether justice or welfare should take precedence when responding to young people who break the law. A punishment is the infliction of an undesirable or unpleasant outcome upon an individual or group because they have done wrong. Punishments are administered with the notion that a wrongdoing can be corrected (Frase, 2011). Throughout the 17 and 18th century the legal system in Britain was incredibly harsh, disposing death penalties for often minor offences, the intention of this was general deterrence to discourage individuals from committing crime. There were great structural insufficiencies in the justice system and due to it being so punitive, juries were hesitant in finding people guilty of offences (Bentley, 1998). This era became known as The Bloody Code . During The Bloody Code , prison ships were introduced to separate young people from adults. They were criticised for their ... Cohen defined moral panic as a form of collective behaviour during which: A condition, episode, person or group emerges to become defined as a threat to societal values and interests; its nature is presented in a stylised and stereotypical fashion by the mass media; the moral barricades are manned by editors, bishops, politicians and other right thinking people; socially accredited experts pronounce their diagnosis and solutions; ways of coping are evolved or (more often) resorted to; the condition then disappears, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It represents the collective fear of the society from the other . I suggest that today moral panic is not simply a matter of exaggerated social problems, but it is a fear of losing control over the other and the fear of the truth about the other . Moral panic intends to reinforce the boundaries between the self and the other . My case study is the moral panic of pornography on the Internet. Moral panic What is moral panic? Moral panic is a form of collective behaviour that from one day to the other considers a certain group of people dangerous. The reasons might vary from fake rumours to real (exaggerated) facts. The period of a moral panic usually ends with social actions either in form of attacking the other (in the case of a Satanic Ritual) or in changing the law (pornography on the Internet). Moral panics usually take place at the time of significant changes in society, when there is a great fear of loss of control. In these times collective consciousness needs to be reinforced so that society can locate new boundaries. Other examples of moral panics are over witchcrafts, satanic rituals, drugs, handguns, teenage pregnancy, TV violence, Internet and so on. According to Goode and Ben Yehuda, moral panic has the following necessary indicators: 1. Concern (different from fear) over the imagined threat (and those associated with ... As we know, his crush on Marian was the primary influence on the choice of becoming a go between. Marian s main target was Leo s emotional state. Leo was emotionally attached to adults. He does not fit in anywhere, he is an innocent boy who does not want to viewed as an innocent child. It follows a family of farmers in the Southern region of the United States who are going to their new house after the father, Abner, has been accused of burning the barn where they were working, and has been then expelled from the country for doing so. Undoubtedly, Kate Chopin is an extraordinary example She has landed a commendable place among American writers worthy of recognition. Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1850, Kate was raised by strong women who taught her the value of an education. Her family gave her a revolutionary vision and a feminist personality, but it was her talented and passionate skills in writing who gave her an individual voice. During her personal life, Mrs. Chopin built a family of her own, but [she] became a widow at age thirty two, with the responsibility of raising six children. She never remarried (Koloski). Ten years after her husband s death, Kate wrote a short story named Desiree s Baby. A few years passed, and Chopin s short story was finally published in Vogue among others. Its strong message about controversial issues such as racism and discrimination of females earned her acclamatory fame and acknowledgment. By the time of her death, Kate Chopin had already written about a hundred short stories and two novels. At the age of fifty four, she passed away in her native St. Louis leaving her legacy to be studied and awarded for the rest of the world (Koloski). Third, the changes in Pozzo and Lucky between the first and second act do contribute to a feeling of hopelessness not only in the play but to the readers as well. The hopelessness can be found in Pozzo s condition that declines from one day to the next. For example when Pozzo loses his eyesight and says, I use to have wonderful sight and proceeds to say, I woke up one fine day as blind as a fortune. Sometimes I wonder if I m not still asleep . (Beckett) The fact that Pozzo loses his eyesight from one day to another symbolizes how his position is no longer as high as it was. Before he loses his sight, he is the one that is seen as the master, the one who takes control of and abuses lucky in every way possible. However when the situation changes and turns the opposite direction he no longer has the ability to be as cruel for now he has to rely and depend on Lucky for guidance with the same rope he used to yank him with. The origins of the debt crisis lie in the beginning of the Cold War era. An era in which the two superpowers of the world sought to gain alliances with as many nations as possible. One such method of attracting allegiance was to provide military aid and economic aid (termed defense support by the US)[5] to countries such as Taiwan and South Korea that lay directly in the path of communist efforts. One such individual involved in defense support projects was Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, who quickly realized what a disadvantageous situation the American government had found themselves in by offering only military support. Dulles stated that he was being forced to defend the interests of the US with one arm tied behind his back; namely the nations economic strength. US military power the other arm was not enough and was indeed largely unsuccessful[6]. The Greek civilization was based upon city states, two in particular; Athens and Sparta. These two dominants in Greek history differ from any other near east society because of their historical background, geographical region and the cultural differences they display. The Athenian city state was an open democratic maritime state, dominating Attica and supporting commercial and cultural expansion. The Spartan city state had a tightly organized, militaristic, land based state, dominating the peloponnesian peninsula. The Near east was a simple time to be alive, they had a small population and little revolutionary advancements recorded. Early Civilization brought strangers together and separated classes of people living side by side into distinct semi autonomous groupings (Sherman, McNeill 17) unlike the civilization of the greek society. Athens was dominant toward the end of the 5th century. It was located in Attica. He plays with proper social norms of the upper class and openly criticizes the character archetypes of the period through a set of unbelievable coincidences, waggish deceptions, and fallacious identities. The Victorian value for earnestness plays out through the story and provides a reason there exists a duality among the characters to escape the repressiveness of the societal roles. Under this circumstance, Algernon s lies rationalize the creation of his fantasy friend; and, then functions as a tool to temporarily liberate him from the burden of city life and hide from the crowd. In this paper, however, making comparisons between the duels from A Hero of Our Time and Eugene Onegin will be the primary focus. When it comes to deciding if dueling was a noble form of conflict resolution, both writers seem to indirectly portray to the reader that duels are unimpressive and ineffective. Both writers emphasize on the challenges that could happen before, during, and after a Russian duel. If the writers wanted to portray to the readers that duels were honorable, then they would have not displayed the challenges that each character faced while they participated in the duel. A similarity between the two duels of A Hero of Our Time and Eugene Onegin is who ultimately ends up being killed. Both Lermontov and Onegin kill a character that was foolish, and who, perhaps, should not have died. In A Hero of Our Time, Grushnitsky foolishly challenges Pechorin after mistakenly assuming that Pechorin snuck into Princess Mary s residence to see her when she was home alone. Looking into the Middle ages, there are some great warriors, male and female, who have graced us with their presence in Medieval History. However, Keuchel is on the 10 day disabled list with a nerve issue in his neck and may be shut down longer, considering nerve problems are very dangerous and the Astros are running away with the AL West, currently holding a 12 game lead over the second place L.A. Scientific Revolution Kuhn used the Chemical Revolution as one of his primary examples of a scientific revolution and based on what was read and discussed in class, I agree with Kuhn s analysis. Historical examples of Kuhn s account of the chemical revolution in the Structure of Scientific Revolution are exemplified in the Phlogiston theory, its period as a paradigm, point of normal science, and eventually the theory s abandonment for Lavoisier s discovery of oxygen as a point of Scientific Revolution. In Kuhn s Structure of Scientific Revolution, he presents that science is a cycle that has a paradigm, which begins with a period of normal science, a crisis, revolution, then a paradigm change. Lavoisier disavowed the phlogiston theory and paradigm through his memoir, insisting that the phlogiston theory was unclear. Lavoisier describes the situation as he states in his Memoirs that the majority of metallic calces are not to be reduced, that is, returned to the metallic state, without the immediate contact of a carbonaceous material or any substance whatsoever containing what we call phlogiston and therefore the fact that this fluid is obtained as fied air gives us no right to conclude that it existed in this form in the metallic calx before its combination with the carbon (Lavoisier 164). Lavoisier declared that in attacking here Stahl s doctrine my object is not to substitute a rigorously demonstrated theory but solely a hypothesis which appears to me more probable, more comfortable to the laws of nature, and which appears to me to contain fewer forced explanations and fewer contradictions (Lavoisier 173). He is declaring that his discovery of oxygen is more legitimate than Stahl s (also the phlogiston paradigm) theory of phlogiston. Lavoisier grew support when he released his remarks opposing the phlogiston theory (Perrin 47). Furthermore, other experiments were conducted on the basis of the phlogiston theory, and complications arose from this. Experimenters were seeing that the theory had some complications when they conducted experiment, producing incompatible effects than the theory had suggested (Perrin). • 42. Exponential Growth In The Malhusian Economy The Malthusian Model compares growth rates between population and means of subsistence and describes what conditions characterize a Malthusian Economy. If a population is given the opportunity to double in size every twenty five years, it would exhibit exponential growth. However, the means of subsistence do not grow exponentially but arithmetically (Elwell 2001, 5). The differing patterns of growth allow for a large gap between population and production to grow over time. In a Malthusian Economy, one would expect to see population and means of subsistence each grow marginally and alternately with neither exhibiting significant sustained growth. In pre industrial Europe, we saw exactly this. Humans ability to produce food and children are not equal and it is through Malthusian population checks, without significant increases in technology, that populations can be sustained in the long run (Elwell 2001, 5). Population checks would make it so the population would not grow far beyond the populations given means of subsistence. However, with the Industrial Revolution, agricultural productivity could increase in efficiency enough to sustain an exponentially growing population. Without technology and without positive checks, population would grow at the same exponential rate and means of subsistence would grow at the arithmetic rate, leading to an unsustainable population (Elwell 2001, 5). In summation, population grows at an exponential rate, which is controlled by positive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Boeing s military aircraft come equipped with missiles, satellite, launch vehicles and advanced information and communication systems. Boeing is also the number one U.S. exporter when it comes to sales. Boeing s aircraft are flown each and every day, all across the United States and the world. Because their products are used so heavily, and daily for that matter, product liability is a major concern for Boeing. The fact that their products interact directly with the men and women who fly these planes, and that nearly every flight has an average of 200 or more people on board, these products need to be safe and thoroughly tested. On that note, health and safety is another major area of legal concern for Boeing. If a fatal accident were to occur, wrongful death cases are sure to come up if the manufacturer is found at fault. These cases can cost the company upwards of 100 million dollars in revenue, not to mention the bad publicity that is derived from them as well. One must take into account that the amount of fatal accidents that occur where the manufacturer is at fault is on the decline, with only 20 percent of fatal accidents occurring due to a mechanical failure of some sort, where as pilot error attributes ... Since his time, the Amarna period is one the ancient Egyptians themselves wished to forget much about Akhenaten remains unknown. What we do know is often confusing, different hypothesis piled upon each other make it difficult to distinguish what is fact and what speculation. We do know that Akhenaten, or Amenhotep IV, was the second son of Amenhotep III, an 18th Dynasty pharaoh and his Queen Tiye. Again, in some portraits of Akhenaten and his family usually during the early period of his reign, his daughters and sometimes his wife Nefertiti are shown as sharing some of his deformities, his daughters certainly are usually shown as having highly unusual head shapes . Since the shapes of the heads of the princesses correspond with that of Tutankhamen s, it is possible that they really were result of a genetic defect on Akhenaten part, though they were no doubt exaggerated. Another factor supporting the theory that Akhenaten suffered from Marfan syndrome is the unusually informal settings in which both Akhenaten s and Tutankhamen s families are portrayed. The royal family is shown as always touching, images of Tutankhamen and his wife Ankhesenamen also show the couple as always touching each other. This could quite possibly suggest that besides being a close family, Akhenaten and Tutankhamen may have been blind to some degree, due to ailments such as cataracts, iridodensis, detached retinas or glaucoma; all symptoms of Marfan s . On the other hand, there may have been nothing wrong with Akhenaten, Tutankhamen, his supposed son does have an irregularly shaped skull but it is not enough to be called abnormal. It is indeed possible that the stylization of the pharaoh in this way was an artistic expression of the religious changes taking place during the Amarna period. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The United States Economy As The Global Economy From 2010 until the end of 2014 oil prices remained relatively constant. With very little fluctuation over these four years, the average price per barrel of oil was around 110 dollars. That price has been more than cut in half within the past year. The price for United States crude oil is now just 48 dollars a barrel, the lowest it has been since 2009 (BBC News). So what is the cause for this sudden change and to what effect will this have on the United States economy as well as the global economy? There are three core contributors that account for this sudden dip in oil prices. These contributors are a low demand for oil in many countries, specifically Europe, that is caused by a lack of economic growth, the increase in The United States oil production, and The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) increase in oil production. With many of Europe s economically struggling countries the increase in production of oil which in return yields lower prices has benefitted them. Europe s weak economy is able to contribute to this drop in oil prices in that Europe s currently low inflation rate and weak economy has greatly lessened the demand for oil. The lack of demand for oil in one of the most prominent import continents in the world has forced oil manufactures to lower their prices in order to retain Europe as a top oil export. Large oil exporters do not want to lose Europe as an export because that would also mean losing billions of dollars per year. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Duffy begins the poem by employing a tricolon: A suspicion, a doubt, a jealousy . The development of insecurity is powerfully portrayed by this line, as the three emotions implied become stronger. Jealousy is often seen as detrimental and throughout the entirety of the poem, we see that Medusa slowly declines mentally and physically, making her life almost not worth living.
