Interview Essay Examples
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Interview Essay Examples" can be both challenging and
rewarding. The difficulty lies not only in the requirement to showcase strong writing skills but
also in the need to effectively convey the essence of an interview through words. The process
involves meticulous planning, thoughtful selection of interviewees, and the ability to extract
meaningful insights from their responses.
To begin with, the writer needs to identify compelling individuals whose experiences or
perspectives can provide valuable insights for the essay. This requires thorough research and a
keen understanding of the essay's objective. Once the interviewees are selected, arranging and
conducting interviews can pose additional challenges. Coordinating schedules, formulating
insightful questions, and ensuring a comfortable and conducive environment for the interviewees
are crucial steps.
The real test, however, lies in transforming raw interview data into a coherent and engaging
narrative. The writer must skillfully weave together the interviewee's responses, maintaining the
authenticity of their voices while also creating a well-structured and captivating essay. This
requires a balance between direct quotes and paraphrasing, ensuring that the essay flows
seamlessly while accurately representing the interviewees' perspectives.
Moreover, organizing the information in a logical sequence, incorporating relevant background
information, and providing insightful analysis further contribute to the complexity of the task.
The writer must not only present the interviews but also offer a cohesive narrative that ties
together different perspectives and themes.
Lastly, meticulous editing and proofreading are essential to ensure clarity, coherence, and
grammatical accuracy in the final essay. Striking the right balance between showcasing the
interviewees' voices and maintaining the overall coherence of the essay is a delicate task that
demands careful attention to detail.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on "Interview Essay Examples" requires a combination of
research, interviewing skills, and adept writing abilities. The writer must navigate through the
challenges of selecting, conducting, and presenting interviews while maintaining the integrity of
the narrative. Despite its difficulties, mastering the art of interview essays can be a rewarding

Truth In The Giver
The book that I read for this summer was called The Giver . It is about a young,
eleven year old boy named Jonas who lives a life of not being told the whole truth.
As he turns a year older Jonas receives the responsibility of The Giver. When he goes
through his training he learns about the past, and with learning about the past comes
the truth. Through his whole life, Jonasand the people from the town which he lives,
have been sheltered from the truth. No one truly knows the full story, except for The
Giver. In this essay I am going to analyze the concept of truth to get a full
understanding of the book. What is truth in this book? The truth in the book The
Giver , is very complicated. Their version of truth is way different than what today s
idea of it is. All of the people think that they know the truth, but they are truly
deceived. They only know what the government allows them to know. Truth to them is

With Jonas s job as being The Giver, truth is a very important aspect. Being The
Giver, he learns about the real, and whole truth. The Giver is the one who keeps all
of the memories of truth. Without it there would be no reason to have a Giver.
Another way that the truth works in the role Jonas was given would be that if
Jonas leaves the community, all of the memories that he had received would be
then distributed to the people of the community. When The Giver and Jonas come
up with the idea that everyone not knowing the truth is wrong, they send Jonas
away so that everyone receives the memories. There are many ways in which the
truth works in the role that Jonas receives, such as when the Chief Elders ask The
Giver for advice when they are in times of trouble. Here is a great example of what I
mean, And when I am called to The Committee of Elders, I appear before them, to
give them counsel and advice (Lowry 130) The truth is used in many other ways in
Jonas s job as well, and these are only a

The Effect Of Music On Music
As you re planning for the reception that will follow the most special day of your life,
you re going to need to make a choice on the music. You can either hire a band to
play live at your event, or employ a DJ to MC the festivities. Here are [] benefits
explaining why you should consider using a DJ to spin your weddingtunes.
Convenience Factor
Setting up a live band and their sound system is a complex ordeal. There is usually
some type of stage assembly, plus you re going to need to fill the time gaps when a
band needs a break. When you elect to have live music for your wedding reception,
you actually have to account for these break periods. This means you re going to
have to think about two ways to keep the music flowing.

They may know how to play dozens of songs very well, but you will be restricted to
a set number of choices. Hiring a DJ essentially gives you an endless number of
songs, not to mention limitless types of music genre.
DJs, especially those who use modern digital technology, come armed with literally
thousands of song choices. There will not be a genre of music requested where they
cannot supply hundreds of artists and innumerous song titles. When you opt for a DJ
over a live band, you add artist variety and song diversity to enthuse all your guests.
Songs Sound Familiar
As hard as a live band tries, rarely are they talented enough to duplicate their
selection of music perfectly. Sometimes dancers will have a hard time telling what
song they re actually playing. DJs spin the music by the original artist, so your
reception guest will get to hear their favorite tunes rendered perfectly.
No improvisation, no sound covers, just the genuine song at the correct rhythm and
beat. You want your guests to enjoy dancing to all the songs, not just the select few
that sound good. Your DJ will not only bring and immense variety of musical
selections, they will sound just like they re intended to sound.
Resolving the music question for your wedding reception is an important part of
planning for your special day. Trying to coordinate with a live act to play the music
can be an involved and costly process. Why not just hand over this significant part of
your reception to

How Did Edgar Allan Poe s Life Influenced His Writing
Throughout Edgar Allen Poe s life, there were events in his life, historical events,
and literature characteristics of the time that greatly influenced his writing and are
displayed in A Dream within a Dream. Edgar Allan Poe s life was filled with death,
abandonment, and bad luck. He was born in Boston on January 19, 1809. From the
beginning of his life, he was abandoned. His father, David Poe, abandoned his family
to debt and financial crisis in 1811. His mother, Elizabeth Poe, died in the same
year from tuberculosis. Poe was then adopted by the John Allans, which is where
his middle name Allan was christened. They were proud of Poe s academic and
athletic abilities; however, Poe and John Allan s personalities did not agree. Poe
and John Allan soon became estranged. Poe dropped out of school because of
insufficient funds. John Allan refused to give him money, despite Poe s begging, and
he eventually resorted to gambling and alcohol. Poe joined the army for a short while

Some of Poe s works symbolize the human condition as a prison. This condition is
where a person is trapped within their physical shell and can only escape through
death, dreams, or imagination. This symbolism was most likely triggered through
being abandoned in his life. Poe s father abandoned him and eventually his foster
parent, John Allan, abandoned him too. Georges Zayed explains, The many
adventures in Poe s stories reflect a morbid psychological instability and underline
man s anxiety in his abandonment, his existential anguish, and the keen longing of
the soul for escape. (....83). After becoming familiar with all the unfortunate
circumstances of Poe s life, one would not be surprised to discover that he wanted an
The Best Fit Who Will Promote The New Shoes Essay

document is to find the best fit who will promote the new shoes. The document will

San Paolo Fuori Le Mura
Ackland Study Gallery: Interior View of San Paolo Fuori Le Mura The Interior
View of San Paolo Fuori Le Mura, completed by Giovanni Battista Piranesi in 1749,
conveys a sense of grandiosity about the structure, emphasizes the core religious
components of the basilica s style, and creates a perception of the sacred temple s
function as socially valuable. The etching depicts the inside space of the Basilica of
Saint Paul Outside the Walls, located in Rome, at an elevated point of view from the
narthex of the structure facing the apse located at the end of the nave. After the
execution of Paul the Apostle in the first century CE, his followers constructed a

The detail effectively illustrates and emphasizes the storytelling components of the
decoration, the sculpture, and the ornateness of the interior space, something not
possible for a less detail oriented medium. The detail of the architecture shows the
superiority of the building compared to other structures in Rome, and the value
placed on honoring Saint Paul. The storytelling artwork and portraiture which leads
to the grand portrait of Jesus Christ is also a component of the interior space which

of the structure. The detail in the artwork expresses its importance in the church s
service to a society of extremely low literacy rates to teach religious stories and
values. The selection of etching as a medium is essential to conveying these aspects
of the architecture s role and how the viewer perceives the function of the
How Did Greek Contribute To Art
Art was valued throughout Greece and a lot of time and resources were dedicated
towards the creation and study of art. Greece used art to enhance daily life. They
had built amazing structures that valued gods and showed how much potential
they had to become an empire. Building these statues and pyramids cost a lot of
money, needed lots of time and also needed loyal soldiers to build for them. The
Greeks also used pottery, painting and drawing for banquets or to honor great gods.
They thought it was important to honor the important events in their history such as
wars. Plays and poems were put on to showcase these major events. The Greeks
were very dedicated to art which had helped them become an empire and now the

Descriptive Essay On My Best Friend
Having a best friend is like having a second being to share your every movement
and emotion with. They are there for you in your saddest and happiest moments.
They give you the truest opinions, but will support you no matter what you decide
to do. Once you become close enough with a person to call them your best friend,
you unconsciously begin having identical likes and dislikes. You become
inseparable, spending most of you days either hanging out or whining to them
about any bothersome matter that you come across. Those are some of the
characteristics of being true close friends. You never want them to be in harms
way because you have developed a bond to that individual and realized what an
amazing person they are. Trust me when I tell you, I never wanted to see my best
friend of four years get hurt but when you are put in a situation like mine, it was
bound to happen one way or another. One of the biggest dilemmas I have
encountered was deciding what to tell my close friend and what not to for her own
good. I would never have thought I would have to choose between my best friend s
trust or her happiness. As a freshman I, like most rookies in high school, was a very
bashful yet cheery young girl. I had chunky square glasses that where noticeably
unproportional to my face, almost completely encased my eyes. Being outgoing was
one of my strong suits however, I could just as easily switch to being overly
introverted depending on who was surrounding me. I had an overwhelming
Failing Forward Essay example
Zack Ray Ms. Paulson TAG 9 28 May 2013 Failing Forward Failing forward is a
very important thing to know how to do for personal growth and leadership. Every
great leader and successful person has learned how to fail forward. To Fail forward
there are fifteen steps. I believe that these steps are fairly accurate, but I m not
really an expert on leadership myself I say these steps are accurate because for
each step he gave specific examples of how certain people used one of these steps
and eventually becomes successful. For example, in chapter two, Maxwell talks
about Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick fil A. First Truett and his brother Ben

Eventually all the original monkeys were replaced, and no monkeys had received
the cold shower, so none of them would climb the pole, but none of them knew
why. These monkeys represented failure in the workplace, and how people are
prone to get into ruts, or continue to make the same mistake over and over again.
This chapter is about changing your response to failure by accepting responsibility.
The monkeys, at the end had no reason not to climb the pole, so none of them were
accepting responsibility. The final example is showing how it takes many failures
to be successful. There are two groups in a clay sculpture class. One group is
graded on quantity of the clay. Fifty pounds of clay is an A, forty pounds of clay is
a B and so on. The other group is graded on quality of the clay sculptures made.
This group was only graded on how well one piece of pottery was made. Can you
guess which group created better quality pottery? Contrary to what you might think,
the first group made better quality clay sculptures. This demonstrates that people
learn more from failing than not failing at all. Throughout this book Maxwell talks
about how if you do not fail often, then you are not being creative or adventurous
enough. This can be applied to businesses, where most people fail around five or
six times before actually succeeding, or just to your own hobby, like sports. All in
all the stories in this book are very important to the book. This I think is

Pepsico, Inc., And Dr. Pepper Snapple Group
The manufacturing industries that will be analyzed are PepsiCo, Inc., and Dr.

large worldwide manufacturing sector.
Revenue Recognition
PepsiCo. revenue recognition is based on the customer s written sales agreement
with a right of no returns allowed, upon shipment or delivery. Dr. Pepper is once
the product has been delivered, there is an agreement on a fixed price or when the
price has been determined, evident that an agreement does exists, and reasonable

revenue should be recognized, which is when the company has actually met their part
of the term agreement, which is after the product has been shipped or delivered.
Property, Plant and Equipment
PepsiCo. property, plant and equipment is recorded as historical cost. I consider this
policy to be a bit outdated. Historical cost has no change in value, and it gives an
inaccurate real value, this accounting procedure should not be used. Dr. Pepper as net

The Sirens Of Titan Essay
Over the course of Kurt Vonnegut s career, an unorthodox handling of time became
one of many signature features in his fictional works (Allen 37). Despite The
Sirens of Titan (1959) being only his second novel, this trademark is still prevalent.
When delving into science fiction, it is often helpful to incorporate ideas from other
works within the genre. This concept is exemplified by the megatext, an aspect of
science fiction that involves the application of a reader s own knowledge of the
genre to a new encounter (Evans xiii). By working within the megatext, Ursula K. Le
Guins The Dispossessed(1974) provides an insightful avenue in exploring the
handling of time and its consequences in Vonnegut s The Sirens of Titan

An interesting structural feature to note is that each chapter is preceded by a
quotation from that chapter. This is not unlike a prophecy and resembles Rumfoord
s abilities. This use of chapter quotations as well as the looping of the narrative
could be interpreted to reflect Rumfoord s perception of time in that everything that
ever has been always will be, and everything that ever will be always has been (20).
There is also a significant amount of foreshadowing in that the novel is essentially
outlined during Malachi s first meeting with Rumfoord.
In The Dispossessed, time can be thought of in either a Sequential or Simultaneous
manner. The Sequential school of thought is the more concrete, familiar version in
that time flows in a linear progression. Simultaneity considers this linearity as
not...a physically objective phenomenon, but as a subjective one (Le Guin 221).
Shevek, the protagonist, makes use of an apt comparison to further describe the
concept: It would be a little like reading a book, you see. The book is all there, at
once, between its covers. But if you want to read the story and understand it, you
must begin with the first page, and go forward, always in order. So the universe
would be a very great book, and we would be very small readers. (221)
According to Shevek, where Sequence falls short is its inability to

In addition, since ACE is willing to invest in the necessary machine and guarantee at

However, regardless of its advantage, sole sourcing of supply is usually considered

Blackface And The Minstrel Show
The first African American to be represented on screen was the character of Uncle
Tom in the short film Uncle Tom s Cabin in 1903, directed by Edwin S. Porter. But
in fact, it was only a representation because the actor was a white man in black face.
As presented in the introduction, Blackface was already highly popular in the 19th
century with the minstrel showthat popularized the blackfacetechnique. The minstrel
show was a form of entertainment popular from the early 19th century to the early
20th century based on racial stereotypes and is regarded as the first distinctly national
popular culture in America.
But the use of blackface goes back to antiquity, and according to Jason Richards in
his Whites in Blackface, Blacks in Whiteface: Racial fluidities and national identities :
the most memorable instances of early blackface are found in Shakespeare s Titus
Andronicus and Othello, both of which featured Moors as characters.
The first American production in 1769 The Padlock featured a blackface servant
called Mungo who danced and sang for whites.

The popularity of blackface however was still present, and with such success, it was

portrayal of African Americanof the minstrel show and its impact continued in the
film industry with many movies where actors played African American with black
face makeup in an era where racism and discrimination was still strong. The most
notable use of blackface in cinema was in the 1915 movie the Birth of a Nation by D.

Theme and Technique in Films
Films are about some topics or themes and involve different types of characters.
Many filmmakers use a variety of techniques to convey their messages. The choice
on the type of the techniques depends on the theme of the film and how effective the
filmmakers want to communicate their ideas. This essay aims at illuminating theme
and technique in films basing its argument on Alfred Hitchcock s movies; Notorious
movie, Rope, and Strangers on the Train. Alfred Hitchcock was a director of movies
and his place in the film studies is unrivalled. He is famously known due to his
brilliant plots, witty dialogue, and his ability to tell stories visually. This unique

However, Guy and Anne manage to stop him and reveal the truth to the police.
Apparently, the three movies feature the theme of murder in the society. In the
movie Rope , Brandon and Philip reveal their obsession with murder. They see the
act as a way of expressing superiority and autonomy. Before the act, they had
listened to Rupert speech who advocated the murder as a solution to some social
problems such as employment and poverty. They take these words literally and
execute the murder. Rupert was a follower of Neitzsche and Ubermenschen
theories of murderer (Denzin 2008). Alfred Hitchcock seems to direct camera at
Brandon, who imagines how murder could be executed and then goes ahead to do
that. Alfred Hitchcock communicates the theme of murder in a different way in the
movie Strangers on a train . Brumo meets with Guy, and he convinces him to
murder Brumo s father and in return Brumo will kill Mariam. Brumo goes ahead
and murders Mariam. He demands the same for Guy. In the Morton Party, Brumo
does not only discuss murder but also demonstrate on Cunningham s neck (Denzin

discovering that Alicia is a spy who is investigating their group, Sabastian plans to
murder her silently. Sabastian is already in love with Alicia. However, after his
discovery that Alicia was a spy, he is ready to poison her so that he does go against

actually started a very long time ago, but the term propaganda wasn t used, there was
no name for it. Propagandais a language of power by spreading false information,
shaping society s opinion, and being able to control people. One of the reasons
propaganda has such power is because of it, in a way, brainwashes people to believe
something over the other. People can easily use propaganda to control people or
convince them to believe that they are correct even if they were talking complete
nonsense. Document
The Bridge on the River Kwai
The film I have chosen for my 1950 s film analysis is The Bridge on the River Kwai.
Directed by David Lean, The Bridge on the River Kwai follows a battalion of British
soldiers who find themselves trapped in a Japanese POW camp during WWII in
1943. The British soldieries are led by Colonel Nicholson (Alec Guinness) who is
ordered by the commandant of the POW camp, Colonel Saito (Sessue Hayakawa), to
build a railroad bridge over the Burmese river Kwai.
Colonel Nicholson refuses to help build the bridge based on the fact that the Geneva
Convention strictly forbids using officers as laborers. After a lengthy battle of wills
between Saito and Nicholson, Saito, realizing that the bridge will never be completed
on time without Nicholson s help, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree with the majority of critics that the film is very good even compared to
more modern war films such as Lone Survivor. Like Lone Survivor the genius of
The Bridge on the River Kwai is that it focuses on the individual soldiers and their
struggles not on the war itself. This allows you to empathize with the characters; even
the Japanese soldiers who run the camp.
Nicholson and Saito encompass the values that a solider and a man should have
specifically duty, honor, purpose, and loyalty. Saito has a duty to complete the
bridge while Nicholson has a duty to ensure the survival of his men. Honor is best
displayed by Saito who is prepared to kill himself if the bridge isn t completed on
time as missing his deadline would dishonor him. According to the code of Bushido,
which Saito and the Japanese subscribe to, the righteous thing to do when you
dishonor yourself is to kill yourself. Purpose is shown by Nicholson when he states
to Saito There are times when suddenly you realize you re nearer the end than the
beginning. And you wonder, you ask yourself, what the sum total of your life
represents. For Nicholson the one physical thing that gives his life meaning, that
represents him, is the bridge. By completing the bridge he proves to himself and
everyone else that his life had purpose; that he accomplished something meaningful.
The final value displayed is loyalty.
Helminths Are Parasitic Worms
As stated by Pawar et al. (2014), Helminths are parasitic worms that contribute to the
global burden of diseases of human infections that frequently spreads in developing
countries. World Health Organization (WHO) [Date Unknown] estimated 2 billion
people with helminthic infection and this population was suggested to get medicine
to expel and kill the helminths from the human body. Ascaris is an intestinal parasite
of humans and pigs. It is the most common human worm infection. The larvae and
adult worms live in the small intestine and can cause intestinal disease (CDC) [Date
Unknown]. While people infected with Ascaris often show no symptoms. If
symptoms do occur they can be light and include abdominal discomfort. Heavy

The Problem With National Breast Cancer Awareness
Month
The Real Awareness of Pink Ribbon Month: A critique of Robin Hilmantel s The
Problem with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Even though breast cancer
is an important issue in today s society and there are different organizations and
charities that raise money for breast cancer; the pink ribbon is something that causes
a variety of problems. In her article The Problem with National Breast Cancer
Awareness Month, Robin Hilmantel makes an effective argument and uses pathos to
reach out to women by showing the perspective of a real person who was suffering
from breast cancer, as well as use symbolism to argue how the pink ribbon is being
used in a misguided way. However, she does not have a well developed thesis and her
evidence does not present any citation or where she got the information from which
gives doubts on her credibility. Hilmantel begins her article with a statement that
catches the audience s attention and makes them think about the pink ribbon
movement that occurs every October; but she does not introduce her thesis until she
mentions her argument which is that there is a problem in how the pink ribbon is
being represented in the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She first starts
with a story of a young woman named Kate Petrides, who did not expect to ever have
breast cancer at her age. Throughout the article Hilmantel talks about how the
awareness of breast cancer has had different responses to people. Hilmantel says that

Marquardt Beauty Analysis Essay
The number 1.618:1 is the golden ratio that defines beauty and the number 1.681
is called the phi (Marquardt). Everything must be proportioned by this ratio to be
considered beautiful according to the mathematical formula. The Marquardt
Beauty Analysis website mentions that there are two components contributed to
the ideal beauty, and they are symmetry and harmony. After resizing the mask to
the subject s face, the result was nearly perfect. However, the subject has some
problems fitting into the outlines of the mask. The eyebrows of the mask are
below the subject s eyebrows. The outline of the mask does not cover the subject s
lower lip. For the anaface site, it was simple to work with. First, check on the
terms and conditions. Second, select a gender. Third, browse and upload a picture
of your choice. The last step is to place 17 dots accordingly, and then click next to
find out the result. The subject received a score of 7.49 out of 10 on the anaface

Diversity And The Impact On Individual Behavior Essay
Diversity and the Impact on Individual Behavior The closest definition to individual
behavior is personality which is the totality of an individual s behavioral and
emotional characteristics. Personality embraces a person s moods, attitudes,
opinions, motivations, and style of thinking, perceiving, speaking and acting. It is
part of what makes each individual distinct (Answers, 2007). Diversity within
organizations can positively or negatively impact individual behavior. Diversity
includes all the ways in which individuals differ including race, gender, age, disability,
religion, sexual orientation and child/elder care responsibilities (Census bureau,
2007). Organizations can create opportunities to draw upon people with different...

In 1950 about one in three women participated in the labor force. By 1998, nearly
three of every five women of working age were in the labor force (Heatherfield,

make up 48% of the workforce (Heatherfield, n.d., para. 6). As the number of
women in the workforce rises so do the numbers of women who hold higher titles
such as Chairman, CEO, Vice Chairman, President, Chief Operating Officer, Senior
Vice President, and Executive Vice President. This number has increased from 7.3%
in 2000 to 9.9% in 2002 (Diversity statistics, 2006). Women are advancing in the

Essay about Empiricist vs. Rationalist
Empiricist philosophers such as John Locke believe that knowledge must come
from experience. Others philosophers such as Descartes believe that knowledge is
innate; this way of thinking is used by rationalist. In this paper I will discuss the
difference between Descartes rationalism in his essays The Meditations and Locke s
empiricism in his essays An Essay Concerning Human Understanding . I will then
lend my understanding as to what I believe as the ultimate source of knowledge.
Locke discards the suggestion of innate ideas. Locke believes that if we always had
innate ideas, it would be impossible for us not to perceive or be aware of them. He
believes that if there were innate ideas then they would be universal ideas present ...

Descartes as a rationalist believes that knowledge comes from the mind alone. During
the First Meditation, Descartes came to the conclusion that there must be some kind
of evil deceiver that leads him to a state of doubt (Descartes 77). Descartes starts out
with the fact that distant sensations are subject to doubt and uncertainty. He then
goes on to try and cast doubt onto close sensations. Descartes starts off by stating that
close sense perception must be certain because we are not crazy, and only a insane
person would doubt what was right in front of them. Descartes then uses the dream
argument to cast uncertainty on close sense perception because they are as lively,
vivid and clear as reality is when we are awake (Descartes 76). Descartes then
states that geometry and math are certain. For whether I am awake or sleeping, two
and three added together always make five, and a square never has more than four
sides; and it does not seem possible that truths so apparent can be suspected of any
falsity or uncertainty (Descartes 98). Descartes comes to realize this certainty
because math, geometry, and the simple sciences can be understood and proved
through logic and reasoning. He then uses his Deceiver Argument to cast doubt on
close sensations. He questions how we know for certain that God is good, and how
we know that

Shattered Socialization
The ways of the past are becoming more and more obsolete as the years go by,
because our society is rewriting how we should live our lives on a daily basis. With
this world constantly changing we have shattered our socialization for the worst when
nit comes to communication with other people on a daily basis. Mealtimes have
become scares, because everyone wants to do their own thing, get done quick for the
day light is fleeting fast, and most importantly no one has anything to talk about when
they come home. According to Elinor and Shohet in their article The Cultural
Structuring Of Mealtime Socialization expresses the issue of mealtime socializing.
They state the mealtimes are more of a tradition passed down from generation to
generation and then becomes a symbol with in a home. (Elinor and Shohet, 36) With
them implying that parents actually have to take effort in passing this tradition down
to their children and so forth has become a dying art form, because of the lack of
parenting and teaching. According to Mona and Benga their article The Relationship
Between Cultural Model, Socialization Goals And Parental Ethnotheories: A Mixed

parents. There are three main key factors that help out with these socialization issues

Concerns of Bioterrorism
Issues/ Concerns of Bioterrorism US/Guam
What is Bioterrorism? What are the types of Bioterrorism? What issues or
concerns should we be aware of when talking about Bioterrorism? How is
Bioterrorism different from the United States and that of Guam? These are some
of the things people would think of and wonder when they hear the word
Bioterrorism. It s important to know the different steps or precautions that a
person can look into in order to prevent themselves from being a victim of
Bioterrorism. First things first, Bioterrorism is defined as the intentional release of
toxic biological agents to harm and terrorize civilians, in the name of a political or
other cause. The history of Bioterrorism goes way back. According to the Terrorism
Issues and Homeland Security, there have always been efforts to use germs and
disease as weapons. The reported risk has led the U.S. government to expend
immense resources for bio defense in the early part of the 21st century. According to

Bioterrorism and they are: Anthrax, Salmonella, Glanders, Melioidosis, and Smallpox.
Anthrax is an acute infectious disease caused by the spore forming bacterium Bacillus

antelopes, camels, cattle, goats, sheep, and other herbivores, but can occur in human

Analysis Of The Pearls On A String
Out of all the amazing things I saw in the Pearls on a String, the one that I found
the most interesting was Akbar and Abd al Rahim, from the Akabarmana (Book of
Akabr, 1586 1589). It is amazing to see how many different scenes can all occur in
one piece. Overall, The Book of Akbar had multiple outstanding pieces but the
emotion in this particular page is what caught my attention. Although I did not study
the other pages as intensely as this one, it is clearto see that Abul Fazlt s technique is
spectacular throughout each and every page. This painting is historical, depicting a
young Abdul Rahim Khan I Khanabeing received by Akbar after his family was
killed. A great story is told throughout the entire book, although this particular
image has more of an intensity to it. This page functions as a devotional image in
order to display the emotional trauma Abd al Rahim must have felt having all that
he knew dragged from under him. This occurrence after royal bloodshed
subsequently sets a mood for the piece. Some of the painting is hard to depict, due
to some men appearing respectful and embracing while others appeared with
contempt. This page is taller than wide with a beautiful background paper designs.
The placement of the piece is harmonious in every way possible. In paying attention
to the placement more emphasis is put onto the central area of the painting. The
frame compliments the shape of the piece allowing it to bring your focus back after

Use Of A Theory And Pagerank Algorithm
Mathematics in Football
The purpose of this report is to research the use of mathematics in football. In
particular, we have researched the use of network theory and PageRank algorithm.
The report aims to consider which strategies are optimal and discuss whether teams
ought to adopt a more mathematical approach to on field play.
Introduction
Network theory is becoming more and more used within football to help teams
analyse and change their style of play. It consists of a collection of nodes, with
edges joining them that are weighted depending on how frequent a path is used. In
football, the nodes represent the players of a team, the edges will be the passes
between them and the weight will be the amount of passes between them. We will ...

The PageRank algorithm gives more weight to a link if it comes from a high
ranking page. In terms of football this means a pass from a popular player is more
valuable than a pass from a player who is hardly involved in the game. Player s
statistics constantly change throughout the game and the PageRank score of a
player depends on the score of his teammates so all scores must be computed at the
same time and the algorithm is only finished once the game has ended. In summary,
PageRank algorithm roughly assigns to each player the probability that he will have
the ball after a reasonable number of passes have been made. [8]
Mathematical Background
One way to analyse players position is closeness centrality, which is defined as the
inverse geodesic distance of a node in the network [1]:
(1)
Where Aij is the total amount of passes from player i to j. This formula uses
incoming and outgoing passes as equal measure. This will show how well connected
the players are to each other.
Another way is betweenness centrality, which measures the extent to which a node
lies on paths between other nodes[2]:
(2)
Where is the number of geodesic paths from j to k going through i and is the total
number of geodesic paths.
The PageRank algorithm can be defined by: (3)
Where = is the total number of passes made by player , is a heuristic parameter that
represents the probability of the player keeping the
Hypochondriasis Essay example
Hypochondriasis is a mental illness wherein an individual is preoccupied with the
fear of having or the idea of having a serious disease. It involves the misunderstanding
of bodily symptoms. The sensations of most hypochondriacs are intense and
disturbing, leading to incorrectly connecting the symptoms to a serious disease. It
said that hypochondria is caused by a patients excessive worrying with having or
developing a disease. Often these patients seek medical attention, but a doctor s

They often seek medical assistance, but a Doctor s reassurance has no merit for the
patient. A patient, who is preoccupied with bodily sensations for less than six months,
are classified as having a somatic disorder. If the complaints persist, the patient is
then labeled as a hypochondriac.
There are many causes for a patient to be a hypochondriac. When a hypochondria
learns of a new disease and its symptoms, he/she excessively worries that they have
or developing the disease. Attention can intensify a bodily sensation. By watching
medical shows, a person can connect bodily sensations felt with a disease described
on the show. The misinterpretation of the bodily sensations is what causes a
patient to be a hypochondriac. Hypochondriasis might also be caused by anger
deep within a person. Rather than letting their anger out towards people, a person
turns their anger into physical symptoms. The life of a hypochondriac is usually
unhappy and depressive. A hypochondriac will fell hopeless and have a lack of
interest in life. Lastly, hypochondria can be triggered by a previous illness
experienced or by a relative s sickness. Someone who was treated with cancer might
be more preoccupied with bodily sensations and will connect them to a disease.
Hypochondriacs have a fear. They fear that they will be struck with an illness. There
are many causes why a person becomes a hypochondriac and most being
psychological.

Identify the functions of a CSU and DSU. How are they used in a corporate

I like to think of a CSU/DSU(Channel service and Data service unit) as something
similar to a modem. In general Dial up or DSL service a modem is required to
convert digital signals to analog and vice versa. A CSU/DSU acts in the same way.
The CSU/DSU converts the digital data frames that local area networks (LAN) uses
into a frame a wide area network (WAN) uses and just like the modemit will change
the frames back to go the other direction across the network.
Within the cooperate environment CSU/DSU are very useful. Most large

ISDN also has the ability to lower the internet speed when an incoming call comes in
to ensure the quality of the call is unaffected by you surfing at the same time. Finally
with ISDN telephone calls actually become clearer then use of just the telephone line.
This is due to the fact that the ISDN modem makes the segment (links the customer
to the exchange) digital thus making the entire phone line digital and increases the
quality of the call.
What are some of the greatest security risks to a WAN? Provide an example of one
risk and discuss the potential consequences and possible precautions.
In my opinion the biggest security risk in a WAN is something that no one really
ever thinks about and is the one exploited more then all of the other risks
combined. That risk is the user. The user on the network is the greatest risk a
network could undergo. I have always been told in my security department that
your network is only as safe as the weakest user on the network. The user is the
easiest part of the network to exploit because it is easier to trick a person then it is
to trick a machine. For example phishing scams from emails or WebPages steal user
credentials every day. People believe if it has your networks logo on it that it is from
your network. Another easy exploit on the user is Social Engineering. I have seen this

Rhetorical Analysis Of Modern Life In Chuck Klosterman
Step 2: Rhetorical Square
Subject: Living in the modern world is equivalent to being undead and this is
increasingly becoming problematic, as more countries are experiencing
modernization.
Analysis
The number of individuals associated with the aspects of modern life is gradually
amassing and this correlates to the number of those who continuously perform
meaningless tasks.
Quote
What if contemporary people are less interested in seeing depictions of their
unconscious fears and more attracted to allegories of how their day to day existence
feels? (Klosterman 1).
Speaker: The author presents himself in a witty manner and by doing so it enables
him to mock the effects modern life has on its people.
Analysis
Although he ridicules those who are victims of modern day society, Chuck
Klosterman also suggests in the essay that he is part of this group and this allows the
audience to connect with him on a personal level.
Quote
The more you fill them with bullets, the more interesting they become (Klosterman 1).
Audience: A neutral group of individuals who are influenced by the modern world.
Analysis
Despite relentlessly performing the same and insignificant assignments daily, these
people do it because it provides the feeling of safety and purpose.
Quote
This is the zombies world, and we just live in it. But we can live better (Klosterman 3.
Purpose: The mindless actions carried out in the modern world are tiresome and
numerous and unless it is contained, individuals will have their motivations drained
until they degrade to nothing but the metaphorical concept of a zombie.
Analysis
Although a day to day routine is already engraved in the consciousness of many, it is
ideal to break away from these set plans as continuing it will simplify humans to
nothing but zombies who are only capable of one function.
Quote
The principal downside to any zombie attack is that the zombies will never stop
coming; the principal downside to life is that you will never be finished with
whatever it is you do (Klosterman 2).
Zombies are like the Internet and the media and every conversation we don t want to
have. All of it comes at us endlessly (and thoughtlessly), and if we surrender we will

The Poetry Of An Author
Many critics of poetry are of the opinion to approach the poems or works of an
author ignoring or disregarding their biographical features , as if did not influence
at all on the design and creation of his poems . While it is true that some sepsis can
help when it comes to not fall into false interpretations or twisted and complicated
analogies , which amounts to combine meanings of certain verses to personal
circumstances experienced by its author, it is no less true that a good biographical
knowledge of vital events of the authors can greatly help clear this or that dark side
that we find in a poem or a work, the reasons why the title of one form or another or
even the way they were ordered poems.
In the case that concerns us Sylvia Plath I could not shake that biographism; What s
more, thanks to him I met the poetry of this woman who, otherwise, would never
have aroused my curiosity. So, biographical circumstance for some critics is almost
like a curse. It has been the key element that led me to the poetry of this woman. My
first approach to Sylvia Plath came after seeing the film Sylvia (a biopic, to increase
my biographer fault) starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Daniel Craig in the role of the
poet and her husband respectively. Already knowing the tragic end of Sylvia Plath,
was the suicide scene in that movie that led me to delve into his life and therefore
in his work . Sylvia s life had an end for me very attractive: suicide. It was from there,

the class I decided to do some research on body language on you tube and also
started watching a TV show called Lie to me which explain how our face expression
and body movements show our interests to the other party and how we need to

To A Waterfowl By William Cullen Bryant
Two competing literary terms found in writing, Romanticism and Realism, are
culturally part of the history of the western world within literature and art.
Romanticism s focus is on the more mythic and transitory while Realism s focus is on
the more real and tangible. Within many forms of literature that use Romanticism
there is a higher power or supernatural element. Many of these characters within this
type of literature use this supernatural force for guidance. This helps the author fulfill
his purpose through characterdevelopment. In turn, Realism is the believe in the
ultimate truth and that individuals guide themselves to understand the truth. An
example of Romanticism in writing is within the poem To a Waterfowl by William
Cullen Bryant,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This view is shown through Holden s focus and how it is prioritized. His focus on
the guidance from God is not existent within his thoughts even though he has
prayed to God from time to time. Holden s explanation as to why is, I felt like
praying or something, when I was in bed, but I couldn t do it. I can t always pray
when I feel like it. In the first place, I m sort of an atheist. I like Jesus and all, but I
don t care too much for most of the other stuff in the Bible. (Salinger ) Holden s
religious views is what stops Holden from relying on the guidance from God to
help solve his issues within society. The author creates a previous history for
Holden as Holden explains, In the first place, my parents are different religions,
and all the children in our family are atheists. ( Salinger 100). This quote talks
about how Holden s religion differs him from believing in a higher power. Holden
has grown up believing that there is no God, or higher power to even believe in.
This relates to the author s purpose within his writing which is to show how Holden
s struggle within society can only be solved through Holden s actions. The author
uses these ideas to show how Holden s perception on religion is differed by his
personal beliefs of society. As Holden struggles
Chris Mccandless s Into The Wild
So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative
to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security,
conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind,
but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a
secure future (Krakauer, pp. 56 57).
This quote by Jon Krakauer symbolizes the countless people that were either terrified
or apathetic to invest against their comfort zones. People in today s society struggle
with trying to find their inner selves their interpersonal expeditions. In the novel, Into
the Wild, Chris McCandless was oblivious to the external world. He was raised from
a wealthy family from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was recently after he graduated from college in Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout
college, Chris maintained a 4.0 grade point average; except for one mistake and he
received an F on an essay. Walt was furious with that one grade and contacted the
teacher. After the call, Walt informed Chris he deserved the particular grade and
should have done what the teacher told him to do. From the evidence stated about
Walt, I can infer that he pushed Chris to do his absolute best in school. Just like
Chris, Walt is a well informed man. The novel states Walt worked as NASA s
project manager. You can realize from Walt s career that he was industrious, and I
can conclude he wanted Chris to be the same. Walt s strict personality would get
irritating after many years of pressure for acceptance, so I can visualize Walt was
one reason for his departure. On Chris s journey across the western United States, he
met a special friend named Franz. Franz took Chris under his wing;treated him like
his own son. He did this by feeding him, sheltering him, and giving him rides for a
particular time. Franz gave Chris rides from Salton City, California to Grand
Junction, Colorado. Franz was a generous man for having such a terrible past time.
The book concludes in the text Franz did not have a cheerful past. The novel states
Franz s only child and wife died in an automobile accident. The loss of his loved
ones really discouraged his present state of mind.

Even if a person with dementia can no longer make complex decisions, it is likely
that they can make more basic decisions. Every effort should be made to get their
input wherever possible. Once the person with dementia begins to lose capacity it
is important that their carer and/or health care professionals are consulted and
involved in decision making. This method is called the multidisciplinary approach.
Macmillan Cancer Support (2012) describe a multidisciplinary team (MDT) as a
group of doctors and other health professionals with expertise in a specific cancer,
who together discuss and manage an individual patient s care, planning the best
treatment for the individual patient. Rosa s condition has not only affected her life
physically but also psychologically. Over time she has become depressed as she
feels stuck in hospital all day and a burden on family and staff . Psychological
theories provide evidence based explanations for why people think, behave, and feel
the way they do. The cognitive explanation of depression originated with Seligman,
he developed the theory of learned helplessness and attributions. The impact of
learned helplessness has been demonstrated in a number of different animal species,

How Does Poe Use Irony In Hop Frog
An additional story Hop Frog , written by Edgar Allan Poe, revolves around an
overweight king and his seven ministers who love practical jokes. Hop Frog, a
deformed court jester who is subject to the King s jokes seeks revenge on the king
by developing a plan they consider as a joke . Edgar Allan Poe s story of Hop Frog
is another example of the usage of irony in Poe s texts that helps to stimulate the
mind of the reader. Poe uses irony to convey the main idea of a dwarf who gains
power over the king through his joke .For example, The chains are for the purpose of
increasing the confusion by their jangling. You are supposed to have escaped, en
masse, from your keepers.Your majesty cannot conceive the effect produced, at a
masquerade,
Robertson Davies Fifth Business, Anne Proulx s The...
Myth and history are necessary in explaining the world, and can be depended upon
for guidance with one as reliable as the other. The idea of place, with its inherent
myth and history, is an important factor in one s identity because place shapes
character and events. Robertson Davies Fifth Business, E. Anne Proulx s The
Shipping News, Michael Ondaatje s In the Skin of a Lion, and Jack Hodgins The
Invention of the World use mythand lore to describe the obstacles which the
protagonists and others must get over or confront in order to recover their
perspective identities. Place anchors the novels in Canada: Fifth Business in Ontario,
The Shipping News in Newfoundland, In the Skin of a Lion in Toronto, and The
Invention of the World... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a person learns from myth to live in this world as a whole person, she has a truth
at least as functional as one taken from recorded history or documented fact. Billy
Pritty in The Shipping News does not use recorded scientific methods to chart his
way in the water, as one who studies history might. Rather he relies on oral tradition
to keep his boat from hitting known sinkers. Enveloped in thick fog, Billy uses a
rhyme from the time when people sailed without modern aides such as charts or
lights: When the Knitting Pins you is abreast, Desperate Cove bears due west
Behind the Pins you must steer Til The Old Man s Shoe does appear. The tickle
lies just past the toe, It s narrow, you must slowly go. (175) The idea of finding one
s path by way of myth or oral tradition is typically Canadian, since not all of Canada
has been mapped from the ground. In many cases myth is more reliable than
recorded history because its telling goes back farther in time, and thus it existed
before documentation. It had power before the printing press inked history books.
Further, the example of the Gammy Bird (a paper that prints fake advertisements and
recycles wrecks to present them as new) as a spreader of information and truth proves
that documented facts are not always to be believed. Dunstan Ramsay in Fifth
Business argues that
Marriage Is The Foundation Of A Civilized Society Essay
Marriage is the foundation of a civilized society. The relation once formed, the law
step in and binds the parties to various obligations and liabilities arising therefrom.
Marriage is an institution in the maintenance of which the public is very interested. It
is the foundation of the family and in turn society, without which no civilization can
exist. A marriagecelebrated, whether before or after the commencement of the
Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 (Act) cannot be dissolved by a decree of divorce on any
of the grounds listed in Article 13 of the Act. Until a Hindu marriage is dissolved
under any law of the spouses can contract second marriage. Thus, it is clear from
the various provisions of the law that the modern Hindu law strictly enforces
monogamy. [1] Even in Muslim law plurality of marriage is not unconditionally
vested in the husband. Traditional Islamic law as interpreted and applied in India
allows more than one marriage during the subsistence of another and the ability to
do justice between wives is co entitled prerequisite [2]. According to Hindu law
administered by the courts in India divorce was not recognized as a way to end the
marriage, which has always been considered a sacrament, with one exception where
it is recognized by custom. Public policy, morals and interests of society were
considered to require and ensure that, where appropriate, compensation should be
allowed in the manner and for the reason or cause in law. One expressly recognized
by law is the

  • 2. Truth In The Giver The book that I read for this summer was called The Giver . It is about a young, eleven year old boy named Jonas who lives a life of not being told the whole truth. As he turns a year older Jonas receives the responsibility of The Giver. When he goes through his training he learns about the past, and with learning about the past comes the truth. Through his whole life, Jonasand the people from the town which he lives, have been sheltered from the truth. No one truly knows the full story, except for The Giver. In this essay I am going to analyze the concept of truth to get a full understanding of the book. What is truth in this book? The truth in the book The Giver , is very complicated. Being The Giver, he learns about the real, and whole truth. The Giver is the one who keeps all of the memories of truth. Without it there would be no reason to have a Giver. Another way that the truth works in the role Jonas was given would be that if Jonas leaves the community, all of the memories that he had received would be then distributed to the people of the community. When The Giver and Jonas come up with the idea that everyone not knowing the truth is wrong, they send Jonas away so that everyone receives the memories. There are many ways in which the truth works in the role that Jonas receives, such as when the Chief Elders ask The Giver for advice when they are in times of trouble. Here is a great example of what I mean, And when I am called to The Committee of Elders, I appear before them, to give them counsel and advice (Lowry 130) The truth is used in many other ways in Jonas s job as well, and these are only a

You can either hire a band to play live at your event, or employ a DJ to MC the festivities. Here are [] benefits explaining why you should consider using a DJ to spin your weddingtunes. Convenience Factor Setting up a live band and their sound system is a complex ordeal. There is usually some type of stage assembly, plus you re going to need to fill the time gaps when a band needs a break. There will not be a genre of music requested where they cannot supply hundreds of artists and innumerous song titles. When you opt for a DJ over a live band, you add artist variety and song diversity to enthuse all your guests. Songs Sound Familiar As hard as a live band tries, rarely are they talented enough to duplicate their selection of music perfectly. Sometimes dancers will have a hard time telling what song they re actually playing. DJs spin the music by the original artist, so your reception guest will get to hear their favorite tunes rendered perfectly. No improvisation, no sound covers, just the genuine song at the correct rhythm and beat. You want your guests to enjoy dancing to all the songs, not just the select few that sound good. Your DJ will not only bring and immense variety of musical selections, they will sound just like they re intended to sound. Resolving the music question for your wedding reception is an important part of planning for your special day. Trying to coordinate with a live act to play the music can be an involved and costly process. Why not just hand over this significant part of your reception to

  • 11. Descriptive Essay On My Best Friend Having a best friend is like having a second being to share your every movement and emotion with. They are there for you in your saddest and happiest moments. They give you the truest opinions, but will support you no matter what you decide to do. Once you become close enough with a person to call them your best friend, you unconsciously begin having identical likes and dislikes. You become inseparable, spending most of you days either hanging out or whining to them about any bothersome matter that you come across. Those are some of the characteristics of being true close friends. You never want them to be in harms way because you have developed a bond to that individual and realized what an amazing person they are. Trust me when I tell you, I never wanted to see my best friend of four years get hurt but when you are put in a situation like mine, it was bound to happen one way or another. One of the biggest dilemmas I have encountered was deciding what to tell my close friend and what not to for her own good. I would never have thought I would have to choose between my best friend s trust or her happiness. As a freshman I, like most rookies in high school, was a very bashful yet cheery young girl. I had chunky square glasses that where noticeably unproportional to my face, almost completely encased my eyes. Being outgoing was one of my strong suits however, I could just as easily switch to being overly introverted depending on who was surrounding me. I had an overwhelming

Every great leader and successful person has learned how to fail forward. To Fail forward there are fifteen steps. I believe that these steps are fairly accurate, but I m not really an expert on leadership myself I say these steps are accurate because for each step he gave specific examples of how certain people used one of these steps and eventually becomes successful. For example, in chapter two, Maxwell talks about Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick fil A. First Truett and his brother Ben opened a restaurant called the Dwarf Grill. These monkeys represented failure in the workplace, and how people are prone to get into ruts, or continue to make the same mistake over and over again. This chapter is about changing your response to failure by accepting responsibility. The monkeys, at the end had no reason not to climb the pole, so none of them were accepting responsibility. The final example is showing how it takes many failures to be successful. There are two groups in a clay sculpture class. One group is graded on quantity of the clay. Fifty pounds of clay is an A, forty pounds of clay is a B and so on. The other group is graded on quality of the clay sculptures made. This group was only graded on how well one piece of pottery was made. Can you guess which group created better quality pottery? Contrary to what you might think, the first group made better quality clay sculptures. This demonstrates that people learn more from failing than not failing at all. Throughout this book Maxwell talks about how if you do not fail often, then you are not being creative or adventurous enough. This can be applied to businesses, where most people fail around five or six times before actually succeeding, or just to your own hobby, like sports. All in all the stories in this book are very important to the book. This I think is

  • 15. The Sirens Of Titan Essay Over the course of Kurt Vonnegut s career, an unorthodox handling of time became one of many signature features in his fictional works (Allen 37). Despite The Sirens of Titan (1959) being only his second novel, this trademark is still prevalent. When delving into science fiction, it is often helpful to incorporate ideas from other works within the genre. This concept is exemplified by the megatext, an aspect of science fiction that involves the application of a reader s own knowledge of the genre to a new encounter (Evans xiii). By working within the megatext, Ursula K. Le Guins The Dispossessed(1974) provides an insightful avenue in exploring the handling of time and its consequences in Vonnegut s The Sirens of Titan . This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An interesting structural feature to note is that each chapter is preceded by a quotation from that chapter. This is not unlike a prophecy and resembles Rumfoord s abilities. This use of chapter quotations as well as the looping of the narrative could be interpreted to reflect Rumfoord s perception of time in that everything that ever has been always will be, and everything that ever will be always has been (20). There is also a significant amount of foreshadowing in that the novel is essentially outlined during Malachi s first meeting with Rumfoord. In The Dispossessed, time can be thought of in either a Sequential or Simultaneous manner. The Sequential school of thought is the more concrete, familiar version in that time flows in a linear progression. Simultaneity considers this linearity as not...a physically objective phenomenon, but as a subjective one (Le Guin 221). Shevek, the protagonist, makes use of an apt comparison to further describe the concept: It would be a little like reading a book, you see. The book is all there, at once, between its covers. But if you want to read the story and understand it, you must begin with the first page, and go forward, always in order. So the universe would be a very great book, and we would be very small readers. (221) According to Shevek, where Sequence falls short is its inability to

But the use of blackface goes back to antiquity, and according to Jason Richards in his Whites in Blackface, Blacks in Whiteface: Racial fluidities and national identities : the most memorable instances of early blackface are found in Shakespeare s Titus Andronicus and Othello, both of which featured Moors as characters. The first American production in 1769 The Padlock featured a blackface servant called Mungo who danced and sang for whites. The choice on the type of the techniques depends on the theme of the film and how effective the filmmakers want to communicate their ideas. This essay aims at illuminating theme and technique in films basing its argument on Alfred Hitchcock s movies; Notorious movie, Rope, and Strangers on the Train. Alfred Hitchcock was a director of movies and his place in the film studies is unrivalled. He is famously known due to his brilliant plots, witty dialogue, and his ability to tell stories visually. However, Guy and Anne manage to stop him and reveal the truth to the police. Apparently, the three movies feature the theme of murder in the society. In the movie Rope , Brandon and Philip reveal their obsession with murder. They see the act as a way of expressing superiority and autonomy. Before the act, they had listened to Rupert speech who advocated the murder as a solution to some social problems such as employment and poverty. They take these words literally and execute the murder. Rupert was a follower of Neitzsche and Ubermenschen theories of murderer (Denzin 2008). Alfred Hitchcock seems to direct camera at Brandon, who imagines how murder could be executed and then goes ahead to do that. Alfred Hitchcock communicates the theme of murder in a different way in the movie Strangers on a train . Brumo meets with Guy, and he convinces him to murder Brumo s father and in return Brumo will kill Mariam. Brumo goes ahead and murders Mariam. He demands the same for Guy. In the Morton Party, Brumo does not only discuss murder but also demonstrate on Cunningham s neck (Denzin 2008). The theme of murder is also evident in the movie Notorious . However, after his discovery that Alicia was a spy, he is ready to poison her so that he does go against the group. At last, he

Directed by David Lean, The Bridge on the River Kwai follows a battalion of British soldiers who find themselves trapped in a Japanese POW camp during WWII in 1943. The British soldieries are led by Colonel Nicholson (Alec Guinness) who is ordered by the commandant of the POW camp, Colonel Saito (Sessue Hayakawa), to build a railroad bridge over the Burmese river Kwai. Colonel Nicholson refuses to help build the bridge based on the fact that the Geneva Convention strictly forbids using officers as laborers. I agree with the majority of critics that the film is very good even compared to more modern war films such as Lone Survivor. Like Lone Survivor the genius of The Bridge on the River Kwai is that it focuses on the individual soldiers and their struggles not on the war itself. This allows you to empathize with the characters; even the Japanese soldiers who run the camp. Nicholson and Saito encompass the values that a solider and a man should have specifically duty, honor, purpose, and loyalty. Saito has a duty to complete the bridge while Nicholson has a duty to ensure the survival of his men. Honor is best displayed by Saito who is prepared to kill himself if the bridge isn t completed on time as missing his deadline would dishonor him. According to the code of Bushido, which Saito and the Japanese subscribe to, the righteous thing to do when you dishonor yourself is to kill yourself. Purpose is shown by Nicholson when he states to Saito There are times when suddenly you realize you re nearer the end than the beginning. And you wonder, you ask yourself, what the sum total of your life represents. For Nicholson the one physical thing that gives his life meaning, that represents him, is the bridge. By completing the bridge he proves to himself and everyone else that his life had purpose; that he accomplished something meaningful. The final value displayed is loyalty.

Even though breast cancer is an important issue in today s society and there are different organizations and charities that raise money for breast cancer; the pink ribbon is something that causes a variety of problems. In her article The Problem with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Robin Hilmantel makes an effective argument and uses pathos to reach out to women by showing the perspective of a real person who was suffering from breast cancer, as well as use symbolism to argue how the pink ribbon is being used in a misguided way. However, she does not have a well developed thesis and her evidence does not present any citation or where she got the information from which gives doubts on her credibility. Hilmantel begins her article with a statement that catches the audience s attention and makes them think about the pink ribbon movement that occurs every October; but she does not introduce her thesis until she mentions her argument which is that there is a problem in how the pink ribbon is being represented in the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She first starts with a story of a young woman named Kate Petrides, who did not expect to ever have breast cancer at her age. Throughout the article Hilmantel talks about how the awareness of breast cancer has had different responses to people. Hilmantel says that different

Descartes as a rationalist believes that knowledge comes from the mind alone. During the First Meditation, Descartes came to the conclusion that there must be some kind of evil deceiver that leads him to a state of doubt (Descartes 77). Descartes starts out with the fact that distant sensations are subject to doubt and uncertainty. He then goes on to try and cast doubt onto close sensations. Descartes starts off by stating that close sense perception must be certain because we are not crazy, and only a insane person would doubt what was right in front of them. Descartes then uses the dream argument to cast uncertainty on close sense perception because they are as lively, vivid and clear as reality is when we are awake (Descartes 76). Descartes then states that geometry and math are certain. For whether I am awake or sleeping, two and three added together always make five, and a square never has more than four sides; and it does not seem possible that truths so apparent can be suspected of any falsity or uncertainty (Descartes 98). Descartes comes to realize this certainty because math, geometry, and the simple sciences can be understood and proved through logic and reasoning. He then uses his Deceiver Argument to cast doubt on close sensations. He questions how we know for certain that God is good, and how we know that

In terms of football this means a pass from a popular player is more valuable than a pass from a player who is hardly involved in the game. Player s statistics constantly change throughout the game and the PageRank score of a player depends on the score of his teammates so all scores must be computed at the same time and the algorithm is only finished once the game has ended. In summary, PageRank algorithm roughly assigns to each player the probability that he will have the ball after a reasonable number of passes have been made. In addition to the pieces by Malcolm X and Davis, the racist acts against minorities that have taken places in the United Statesignited my motivation to write about something that should be prevalent today. Racismin the United States has become so overtly obvious that it has become normalized. In a time like now, as Americans,

But I never knew the strategies that different people have used on me were negotiation techniques and in some situations I think because I didn t understand the concept of a BATNA or Reservation Price (RP) I fell into the side where I didn t get the best piece of the pie. I Biopharm Seltek was the first negotiation that I walked into this semester, and it is also the first negotiation that I prepared myself by reading and learning different strategies to use in different situations. I think knowing my BATNA and Reservation Price before I walked into the room and start... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another take away from the negotiation was by researching and thinking about other parties BATNA and setting high aspirations: key was not to be influenced by the RP. I also believe that by opening the offer with a reasonable amount to keep the other party interested. Once we came into class to debrief about the negotiation I understood how the body language is in these negotiations as well. So after I left the class I decided to do some research on body language on you tube and also started watching a TV show called Lie to me which explain how our face expression and body movements show our interests to the other party and how we need to maintain a poker face during a negotiation. My intension was to use some of these techniques for the next negotiation case. I also understood that even though understanding the body language is helpful preparation is still the key for a goo negotiation. In summary we need to prepare 80% before going to the negotiation table and think in different ways we could be challenged during the negotiation process but 20% takes part in the negotiation process where our understanding in how to ask specific questions and reading the other parties body language is helpful. After understanding the
  • 42. To A Waterfowl By William Cullen Bryant Two competing literary terms found in writing, Romanticism and Realism, are culturally part of the history of the western world within literature and art. Romanticism s focus is on the more mythic and transitory while Realism s focus is on the more real and tangible. Within many forms of literature that use Romanticism there is a higher power or supernatural element. Many of these characters within this type of literature use this supernatural force for guidance. This helps the author fulfill his purpose through characterdevelopment. In turn, Realism is the believe in the ultimate truth and that individuals guide themselves to understand the truth. An example of Romanticism in writing is within the poem To a Waterfowl by William Cullen Bryant,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This view is shown through Holden s focus and how it is prioritized. His focus on the guidance from God is not existent within his thoughts even though he has prayed to God from time to time. Holden s explanation as to why is, I felt like praying or something, when I was in bed, but I couldn t do it. I can t always pray when I feel like it. In the first place, I m sort of an atheist. I like Jesus and all, but I don t care too much for most of the other stuff in the Bible. (Salinger ) Holden s religious views is what stops Holden from relying on the guidance from God to help solve his issues within society. The author creates a previous history for Holden as Holden explains, In the first place, my parents are different religions, and all the children in our family are atheists. ( Salinger 100). This quote talks about how Holden s religion differs him from believing in a higher power. Holden has grown up believing that there is no God, or higher power to even believe in. This relates to the author s purpose within his writing which is to show how Holden s struggle within society can only be solved through Holden s actions. The author uses these ideas to show how Holden s perception on religion is differed by his personal beliefs of society. As Holden struggles

Chris Mccandless s Into The Wild So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future (Krakauer, pp. 56 57). This quote by Jon Krakauer symbolizes the countless people that were either terrified or apathetic to invest against their comfort zones. People in today s society struggle with trying to find their inner selves their interpersonal expeditions. In the novel, Into the Wild, Chris McCandless was oblivious to the external world. Throughout college, Chris maintained a 4.0 grade point average; except for one mistake and he received an F on an essay. Walt was furious with that one grade and contacted the teacher. After the call, Walt informed Chris he deserved the particular grade and should have done what the teacher told him to do. From the evidence stated about Walt, I can infer that he pushed Chris to do his absolute best in school. Just like Chris, Walt is a well informed man. The novel states Walt worked as NASA s project manager. You can realize from Walt s career that he was industrious, and I can conclude he wanted Chris to be the same. Walt s strict personality would get irritating after many years of pressure for acceptance, so I can visualize Walt was one reason for his departure. On Chris s journey across the western United States, he met a special friend named Franz. Franz took Chris under his wing;treated him like his own son. He did this by feeding him, sheltering him, and giving him rides for a particular time. Franz gave Chris rides from Salton City, California to Grand Junction, Colorado. Franz was a generous man for having such a terrible past time. The book concludes in the text Franz did not have a cheerful past. The novel states Franz s only child and wife died in an automobile accident. The loss of his loved ones really discouraged his present state of mind.

Every effort should be made to get their input wherever possible. Once the person with dementia begins to lose capacity it is important that their carer and/or health care professionals are consulted and involved in decision making. This method is called the multidisciplinary approach. Macmillan Cancer Support (2012) describe a multidisciplinary team (MDT) as a group of doctors and other health professionals with expertise in a specific cancer, who together discuss and manage an individual patient s care, planning the best treatment for the individual patient. Rosa s condition has not only affected her life physically but also psychologically. Over time she has become depressed as she feels stuck in hospital all day and a burden on family and staff . Psychological theories provide evidence based explanations for why people think, behave, and feel the way they do. The cognitive explanation of depression originated with Seligman, he developed the theory of learned helplessness and attributions. The impact of learned helplessness has been demonstrated in a number of different animal species, but

Edgar Allan Poe s story of Hop Frog is another example of the usage of irony in Poe s texts that helps to stimulate the mind of the reader. Poe uses irony to convey the main idea of a dwarf who gains power over the king through his joke .For example, The chains are for the purpose of increasing the confusion by their jangling. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a person learns from myth to live in this world as a whole person, she has a truth at least as functional as one taken from recorded history or documented fact. Billy Pritty in The Shipping News does not use recorded scientific methods to chart his way in the water, as one who studies history might. Rather he relies on oral tradition to keep his boat from hitting known sinkers. Enveloped in thick fog, Billy uses a rhyme from the time when people sailed without modern aides such as charts or lights: When the Knitting Pins you is abreast, Desperate Cove bears due west Behind the Pins you must steer Til The Old Man s Shoe does appear. The tickle lies just past the toe, It s narrow, you must slowly go. (175) The idea of finding one s path by way of myth or oral tradition is typically Canadian, since not all of Canada has been mapped from the ground. In many cases myth is more reliable than recorded history because its telling goes back farther in time, and thus it existed before documentation. It had power before the printing press inked history books. Further, the example of the Gammy Bird (a paper that prints fake advertisements and recycles wrecks to present them as new) as a spreader of information and truth proves that documented facts are not always to be believed. Dunstan Ramsay in Fifth Business argues that

The relation once formed, the law step in and binds the parties to various obligations and liabilities arising therefrom. Marriage is an institution in the maintenance of which the public is very interested. It is the foundation of the family and in turn society, without which no civilization can exist. A marriagecelebrated, whether before or after the commencement of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 (Act) cannot be dissolved by a decree of divorce on any of the grounds listed in Article 13 of the Act. Until a Hindu marriage is dissolved under any law of the spouses can contract second marriage. Thus, it is clear from the various provisions of the law that the modern Hindu law strictly enforces monogamy. [1] Even in Muslim law plurality of marriage is not unconditionally vested in the husband. Traditional Islamic law as interpreted and applied in India allows more than one marriage during the subsistence of another and the ability to do justice between wives is co entitled prerequisite [2]. According to Hindu law administered by the courts in India divorce was not recognized as a way to end the marriage, which has always been considered a sacrament, with one exception where it is recognized by custom. Public policy, morals and interests of society were considered to require and ensure that, where appropriate, compensation should be allowed in the manner and for the reason or cause in law. One expressly recognized by law is the
