Benefits Of Single Species Recovery Programmes
World conservation is at a crossroads of judgement making and New Zealand
provides an extreme example of issues and possible solutions. On the positive side,
more than 30% of total land area in New Zealand has been set aside for as National
Parks (DOC, n.d.) and various reserved land and is run by the Department of
Conservation. Single species recovery programmes have been successful with the
use of eradication of offshore islands pests to for reintroduction of threatened
onshore species such as the Kakapo on Cod fish island. However, this is in marked
contrast to biodiversity decline with up to 50% of native birds threatened due to
introduced pests such as mustelids and possums. With legislation (Conservation Act
1987), public opinion and changes in current practices, conservation and
development might be able to coexist to a point where each can be sustainable
(Craig, 2000).

Society s Misfortune Our society today suffers from multiple diseases. Diseases
range from cancer, HIV, diabetes, and mental illness. What people do not usually
think about as a disease is bullying. Bullying is one of those diseases that is a major
problem is human lives. Bullying is an act that harms many people around the
world, especially here in the United States of America. Bullying can defined by
many things. It s teasing, name calling, stereotyping, cyber bullying, fighting,
exclusion, spreading rumors, public shaming, and aggression intimidation
(Strickland). According to educational reports, an average of 15% of children in
elementary school are in involved in bullying (Ross). This high of a percentage
proves that bullying is still a major problem today in American society. While the
percentage is not close to a hundred, those 15% of young children are affected
enough. Fifteen percent of young children being bullied is more than enough to
prove that bullying should be frowned upon. [Bullying] can be in person and
online. But it can often be considered a rite of passage (Strickland). Bullying causes
a variety of problems. The problems are not only in young people, but also adults
who were bullied before. To cure this epidemic, it would be beneficial to society if
society was informed about these negative effects. Bullying frequently causes the
victims to experience mental illnesses (Zielinkski).

Once More to the Lake is an essay that was published in Harper s Magazine in 1941
by author E.B. White. The author tells the story through a first person point of view
and describes his experience at a lakefront camp in Maine. The essay shows White
going through an internal conflict between perceiving the lake and acting as he did as
a child and observing the lake and acting as an adult. White s experience and views as
an adult almost seem identical to his experience as a child until it is effected by his
recognition of the technology difference in the boats. Certain moments, such as when
the author and his son are fishing, reminds White of when he spent those moments
with his father. These nostalgic moments help White realize that even though human
life is transient and insignificant, but experiences are eternal. The author sees that
even though his revisit is slightly different, his son still has the same experience that
he had when he was young. Given the nature of the story, the author did not
implement an overload of binaries, but one opposition introduces the central conflict
of the story. Throughout the story, the author relives moments with his son that he
had with his father. The one significant difference is the motors in the boats. When
White was young, the motors on the boats were all inboard, and at a closer distance,
the boats make a peaceful sound. The opposition comes into effect when the lake s

The Mexican Revolution was greatly influenced by the peasants in the villages.
Conditions like haciendas run by Europeans or mestizos lead to exploitations of
peasants and reform laws that lead to the Agrarian Revolution of the peasants.
Agrarian Revolt in a Mexican Village focus on the village of Naranja, through Paul
Friedrich historical analysis of this town, we see how the conditions like haciendaled
these people to mobilize against Porfirio Diaz.
The cultural background of Najarana is crucial in understanding the sentiment of the
villagers, they spoke Porepicha, and were described as Indian. These cultural
difference had political significance that lead to a peasant uprising. Prior to
European intervention, Indian communities participated in ejidos, communal land
that belonged to no one person in particular. This was a tradition that had been in
practice for decades prior. Once the Europeans began to intervene in Indigenous
villages, the practice of communal lands began to disappear. This was a result of
reform laws passed by the Porfirian dictatorship, going into practice in the second
half of the 1800s. Through these measures the area saw major change, to the
Indigenous population this was not positive change. These laws encouraged Indians
to divide land with the intentions to sell it as they wished. Later this laws changed
and allowed private companies to settle public lands, the only issue being that the

similarities in both authors are the cultural obstacles they had to surpass to be the
successful writers they became. A deeper examination of Cisneros famous short
story, Woman Hollering Creek will highlight the liberation of those barriers. In
this particular short story Cisneros speaks about the main character, Cleofilas, and
her struggle with her abusive husband, Juan Pedro. Cleofilas had to live in a
society where the women were simply there to assist their husbands, and God
forbid she second guessed him. Living and struggling with the everyday battle of
stereotypes, she decided to leave her husband at the end of this short story. This all
developed the strong independent female role Cleofilas took on by the end of the
story. The main character was forced to believe by her family and her husband that
she wasn t worth anything without a man; this made her doubtful of her abilities and
her human capital. In the interview by Martha Satz, Cisneros says, I think many of
my stories come from dealing with straddling two cultures, and certainly it s
something I m going to deal with in future stories (Cisneros 30). Here, Cisneros
agrees that her stories have to do with the endless topic about coming from two

Analytic Appliance ) is doubtlessly a hands down winner over Oracle. SAP created
Hana for real time analytics and applications. Oracle released Exadata Database
Machine in 2010 to deliver the highest levels of database performance available.
Though Oracle claimed that it wants to be the leading applications vendor in the
world, it failed to openly accept SAP HANA as its competitor. While HANA is also
an in memory RDBMS like Exadata, it is more of a business platform. It allows

Describe specifically what the term arbitrary color means, a color used at random
for objects that have a common color, such as, a tree has green leaves, but we
choose to make the leave purple or making the sun black, the clouds green, or the sky
yellow, etc.
Who was the first artist to employ the technique? I would have to say Katsushika
Hokusai, Kitagawa Utamaro, and AndВЇo Hiroshige had a role in the technique. The
technique was used in AndВЇo Hiroshige color woodcut print, ( Moon Pine at Ueno
from One Hundred Views of Famous Places in Edo ), (Pg. 27), because of the color
use. The colors seem to be out of place, such as, the sky s appearance being that of
black, blue, and green, also the tree appears to have a redder tent than what we
would normally see in nature. Hiroshige and other Japanese artists had gotten young
artist thinking about color, arbitrary color, and pure color. One of the artist that took
the color techniques from color woodcut prints and Japanese prints was Paul
Gauguin. Gauguin was truly the first to employ arbitrary color techniques, which
