Joseph Paxton s Life And Accomplishments
Joseph Paxton
Joseph Paxton was born in Milton Bryan in Bedfordshire, England on August 3rd 1803, he was
the seventh son of a farmer, grew up in a big family. He was an English architect, gardener and
also known for cultivating Cavendish bananas. 1The first time he introduced in this garden

15 years old, and was became a garden boy. He switched couple of garden jobs until 1823, where
he worked at Horticultural Society s Chiswick Gardens.2 This was where he met one of the most

At this stage, Paxton has already somewhat experience, he has constructed a lake. Duke who had
great interest in Paxton and his skills offered him the head gardener s position at Chatsworth.
This was one of the tuning point in Paxton s career. As he was offered a great position but he was
also able to meet his wife, Sarah Brown. 3Which was the housekeeper s niece, she was influential

responsibility in Chatsworth. By the support of both his wife and Duke, Paxton was to travel many
places around Europe, in Italy, Switzerland and many other countries which widened his eyesight

Catholic Charities Case Study
As the new office manager of the Southern region for Catholic Charities, the regional director has
asked me to address some challenges that have been mentioned to them. As a new manager, I
have been looking over the past couple of weeks as different areas that have been mentioned to
me by the regional manager and have been able to identify some issues that need to be addressed
immediately in order to make the office run better in order to raise the agency to a higher level.
The key issues that have stood out so far which need to be dealt with are employee absenteeism,
poor morale amongst the staff, the productivity expectations, lack of valid performance appraisals,
the high turnover rate and lack of training. It has been apparent through... Show more content on

Instead of having four to eight measurements under each category, I would have one to four
standards under each with four being the highest amount under each category. In this manner,
the standards would be more oriented towards what is being measured. For example, under the
mission category I would only provide one standard as there is only one mission statement and
the employee either meets it or does not. I would also add a new category of Cultural
Responsiveness as this is a concern in the treatment of the clients. The outcomes would also be
done differently so that the scores either showed that the employee exceeded expectations (EE),
met expectations (ME) or needs improvement (I). I find that this will prompt the employee to
want to meet the expectations or aim to exceed what is expected of them. In order to roll this
out, it will be presented to all supervisors and managers so that they are aware of the changes that
will be put in place as well as being able to inform the staff of the upcoming changes so that they
can work to achieve their goals and

Ecosystems at Risk Essay
Compare the nature and rate of change that affect the functioning of TWO different ecosystems at
risk.
An ecosystem is the dynamic complex of plant, animal and micro organism communities and their
non living environment as a functional unit. Ecosystems are systems through which incoming solar
energy is captured and channelled through a hierarchy of life forms. Each ecosystem has its own
characteristic plant and animal community.
Nature of change refers to the natural or human induced change towards an ecosystem. Humans
play a role in maintaining or disturbing the dynamic equilibrium of any ecosystem. They have the

Queensland and is considered as an ecosystem at risk. It stretches approximately 2300km from
Papua New Guinea s Fly River in the north (8вЃ°S) to Fraser Island in the south (24вЃ°S) and has
become the largest World Heritage site in the world. It has 1500 of the worlds 13 000 fish species

The Great Barrier Reef is a highly active ecosystem. Tropical cyclones are a major source of
damage to this reef system. These storms create great waves that damage corals. They bring large
amounts of fresh water onto the reef though forceful rain. The fresh water alters salinity levels,
placing stress on the corals and other animals. Human s impacts have affected the Reef for
thousands of years. Climate change, oil spills, tourism, overfishing, land clearing, sewage and waste
disposal, coral harvesting and dredging and sand mining have all been major human impacts on the
Great Barrier Reef. The impacts of climate change have affected the climate of northern Australia.

Definition Essay On Ownership
Ownership Essay
Your neighbors may own multiple vehicles. You may own an Iphone 6. Your school mate may own
almost every video game ever made. What do you and these people have in common? You all own
objects. But what does it mean to own something? Ownership can mean far more than having
possessions with your name on them. Ownership relates to your sense of self and personal identity.
Philosophers like Aristotle and Plato believed that owning tangible items relates to how one sees
himself. Being human, we brag about who owns what and how much of that what they own. Some
people believe that the more extravagant items they own, the more he,or she, is worth . But what
does owning something mean? For someone, like a teenager, owning ... Show more content on

When you own something you worked really hard for, it can teach you to value things more.
Working hard for an item you really want allows you to set targets and strive for the object you
desire. For example, a teenager can go out and purchase a vehicle after saving up for many years.
It teaches you that hard work and determination pays off. It s something that you can be proud of
and call yours.
Jean Paul Sartre, a French philosopher, believed that owning something didn t have to come down
to owning physical items. What does owning a very expensive item really mean to you? Having a
talent or skill is unique, and unlike tangible items, talents can t be bought and can t be taken away
from you. Having a special gift makes you the person you are and what you are known for. It s
something you own . With it, you re one of a kind and it makes you feel good about yourself.
Ownership of a special talent defines who you are and elevates your self esteem.
There are many interpretations on what it means to own something. Some people see owning
things as a way to show off how much they re worth. Other people may see owning things as
having a capability that other people do not have, like a special gift or skill that makes them
unique. Owning something means being able to call it yours. Whether it s tangible or intangible
items, ownership affects your sense of

The Doctrine Of Precedent And How It Operates Within A...
1.Explain the doctrine of precedent and how it operates within a criminal court hierarchy. (3 marks)
The doctrine of precedent is the principle in which judges follow when deciding the results of
cases. This principle ensures that the law is applied consistently across matters, sometimes
applying past reasoning from similar cases. Some courts are bound to follow the doctrine of
precedents if a similar case was tried in a higher court. Generally, the High Court of Australia has
precedence over all courts (Federal, Supreme, District, Local etc.) and is not bound to follow the
decisions made in these lower courts.
2.Briefly describe the following court hearings and explain their main purpose:
a)A jury trial
Jury trials are held in District or Supreme Courts. These trials are used to ensure that people that
are not influenced by the government and power can have their say in the verdict of a defendant.
The jury is a selection of people that are chosen to attend a case and listen to evidence to make
determinations on questions of fact. The judge then takes the jury s decision into account when
deciding the defendant s verdict.
b) A committal hearing
Committal hearings are only held for some indictable offences (such as manslaughter or aggravated
burglary). P. Salmelainen (1992) suggests that committal hearings are used to determine whether
there is enough evidence to warrant the accused being sent to stand trial. These hearings are often
held in local courts until the

Vanguard Group Case Study
The Vanguard Group was founded by John C. Bogle in 1975 with one mission in mind to build
wealth for its clients and only for its clients [1]. It pioneered the industry first index fund and
operated in a business model which was unheard of at the time.. low cost investing for all
investors. Its corporate structure is still unique among mutual fund providers. Since Vanguard is
not publicly traded or privately owned, all profits are returned back to investors in the form of
lowering investing costs. Every decision has the client s best interest in mind. While Vanguard has

Three years later, it is still starting to connect the client journey where client interactions over the
phone, web, and mail can be analyzed. As part of the enterprise wide analytics, there are efforts
to centralize a data mart where analysts across the firm can access to understand the full client
experience. It is evident Vanguard aspires to be an analytical competitor in the investment world.
It is challenging each business unit to conduct predictive and prescriptive analytics. Analyzing
client and employee behaviors on the top priorities. Business decisions that were once made by
gut check now requires data as a source of proof. Vanguard has historically been a slow and steady
business where decisions are made in consensus and new strategies has a cycle time of months or
years. It operated at extremely thin margin to make sure it can keep operational costs at a bare
minimum for its clients. That mindset officially changed when it opened its Innovation Center in
center city last year which will work closely with academics and consultant firms to bring R D ideas
to the forefront. Vanguard has a track record of analyzing internal processes in the areas of
corporate finance and human resources. One measurement that is often discussed is the Customer
Lifetime Value, which is the net profit attributed to the future relationship with a customer. This
metric is used in budgeting and allocating investment dollars throughout the firm. There was a

aspect of Molieres writing. Cleante and Madame Pernelle are often making jokes, however, their
jokes are not direct they are laced within the text. Not only is the theme contributing to humor, it
also includes the humorous acts that some of the characters partake in. One example of this is
when Tartuffe tries to seduce Elmire during a meeting to ask to marry her daughter. Another
example might be, how valere and Mariane fall madly in love because they only just know each
other and their marriage was virtually arranged. It is also notable how the character who seems to

How Does Edgar Allan Poe Use Imagery In The Luncheons
How does he use descriptive imagery to establish the setting . This is a story by edgar allan poe
that was published in november of 1846 in a womans magazine. During the story he uses many
types of imagery. He seems to try to use many of these to establish a well made story. This story
is so well established to be creepy and disturbing that in many parts of the story he lets the reader
think for themselves so many people have different opinions on the story. He is well descriptive
but rellys so much on imagery in this story than some of the others. ВЁThe vaults are
insufferably damp. They are encrusted with niter.ВЁ In this part of the story he is trying to
show the reader how damp the vaults are because of the niter. He does a really good job of
showing us how it feels down there like in this sentence ВЁWe passed through long walls of piled
skeletons , with casks and puncheons intermingling, into the inmost recesses of the catacombs.ВЁ

Examples Of Sentences
Just how do we start that perfect sentence? It can be a tough decision. Sentence beginnings are
like first impressions, and we want to make sure they re right. And while there s no single correct
way to start a sentence, we need to vary them to ensure our writing doesn t get stale or boring.
So, what makes a bad sentence beginning anyway? Are there rules? Well, no, but let s look at some
examples of how repeated simple sentence openings can become stilted and tough to read. For
example:
John went to the store. Anthony went with him. They bought food and drinks. They bought flowers
for John s mother. The man at the cash register smiled at them and gave them a discount. They
returned home and put away the groceries.
What do all these sentence beginnings have in common? As we can see, each one consists of a
noun followed by a verb. Unfortunately, these simple sentences quickly become boring, decreasing
the impact of our writing. Let s see what happens when we vary them a bit. ... Show more content

Smiling, the man at the cash register gave them a discount. Returning home, the two put the
groceries away.
See how much better this flows? Here, we ve left the simple noun verb structure for the first
sentence, but, in the second, we ve used smiling as a participial or transitional word. And in the
third, we ve emphasized the action of returning home, rather than the two boys.
Let s look at some other ways to rearrange simple sentence beginnings (e.g. common noun verb
constructions) and add some variety to our work. Remember, our goal here is not only to minimize
the use of simple sentence openings it s to become better writers!

Beloved Iron Chain
Beloved follows the story of Sethe as she retraces her past and shines light onto the dark side of
slavery. Paul D depicts this when he recounts his time in prison in Alfred, Georgia and at Sweet
Home, a plantation in Kentucky. The theme of iron and the reduction of humans to animals is a
constant in his stories, from the iron bit to the iron chain. In Beloved, Toni Morrisonuses the chain
to signify both the connection and disconnection that slaveryfostered.
Upon introduction to the chain, its physical purpose is clear: it s meant to restrain the men. When
Morrison writes, one thousand feet of the best hand forged chain in Georgia , she is emphasizing

Field Research Report On Buddhism

Buddhism
Angela Ginalick
Fall 2014
I.Introduction
Buddhism was started by a man named Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha ). He was born ca. 563
B.C.E. in Lumbini near the Himalayan foothills. Siddhartha Gautama was the warrior son of a
king and queen. Legend has it that at his birth an astrologer predicted he would withdraw from
the temporal life. His father, in an effort to prevent this, provided him with many luxuries and
pleasures. As a young man, he once went on a series of four chariot rides where he first saw
severe forms of suffering: old age, illness, and death (a corpse), as well as an ascetic renouncer,
according to the Asia Society (2014). The Buddha had a difficult time reconciling his life
compared to human suffering and abandoned his way of life leaving his wife and new son. He
lived in the forest to the point of near starvation. Finally, he ate some food and sat down by a tree
to meditate. According to some approximately six months later he attained Nirvana and discovered
the true answers of suffering and the release from it.
There are three basic principles of the Buddha s teachings: Sila, Samadhi, and Panna. Sila is the
development of morality. Samadhi is the tool to purify the mind on order to see its nature, how to
control it, how to develop it, and make use of it. Panna is wisdom or enlightenment the realization
of the true nature of life and universe at large.

Nietzsche s Loss Of The Power Of God
God is dead. This is perhaps one of the most famous quotes in the history of philosophy. It has
been subject to many interpretations and in this essay, one of these interpretations is going to
be explored. God is dead means that the source of man s guidance through life, which is God,
has lost its power. This loss of power of God will impact society from its foundation to its apex.
This is because as the old structure, which is dependent on God collapses, what will fill the void
left by Santa Claus? What is man supposed to do then, other than following a moral code that has
been the norm for ages? What will fill that void? All of these are questions that arise out of the fear
of the void left by God upon the heart of man. Must man then become... Show more content on

As it seems, humans will always need something to follow that is outside of themselves. From the
Nietzschean point of view, instead of looking outward for guidance, we must look inward and
become the driving force of our lives through lived experience and this is what makes Nietzsche an
existentialist.
What I relate is the history of the next two centuries. I describe what is coming, what can no longer
come differently: the advent of nihilism. . . . For some time now our whole European culture has
been moving as toward a catastrophe. This quote is projecting the consequences of God s death
and not long after Nietzsche s time, what he predicted had come to pass. Furthermore, The Death
of God has two possible implications. In the short run, the consequences will not be pleasant, but
in the long term, they will be. The projected short term implication of this is the rise of Nihilism.
Described as ambiguous by Nietzsche, nihilism is an outlook on life that sees life as meaningless.
The problem with nihilism is that it still relies on the void left by the external source of direction
even though the idea of God that once governed it is dead. For this reason, nihilism is ambiguous
because

Changes Within The European General Data Protection Directive
Changes in the European General Data Protection Directive
How to prepare for the new regulations?
Overview requirements
Why is a new regulation required? What does this means for a company?
The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is due to be passed through European
Parliament. It will impact any organisation that gathers, processes and stores personal data. It is
currently a draft regulation, due to come into effect by late 2015 and it s aiming to unify and
simplify data protection regulation for all the member countries of the European Union (EU).
As of Monday 15 June 2015, the Council of Ministers reached a general approach on the general
data protection regulation that establishes rules adapted to the digital era and an agreement on
GDPR is expected by the end of the year. As a Regulation and not a Directive, it will have
immediate effect on all EU Member States after the two year transition period and does not require
any enabling legislation to be passed by governments.
As part of the Data Protection Reform Package, the European Parliament is currently discussing
the Commission Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the
protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement
of such data. It includes a strict data protection compliance regime with severe penalties of up to

Essay on Faith as a Basis of Knowledge in Religion
According to the bible in Hebrews 11:1 faith is said to be an assurance of things that are hoped
for, evidence of things that are unseen, on the other hand, faith is generally defined as a strong
assurance based on assumptions but not a certain decision based on evidence. Throughout history
faith as basis of knowledge has been regarded as a controversial issue, especially in religion. This
is mainly because religion is archaic, there are no traces of evidence but people strongly believe in
it and they consider it as the truth. In scienceas the other area of knowledge, faith is founded on
philosophies that scientist have proposed and disproved based on data. Nonetheless, faith is
something that s very personal and a lot of emotion... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike science, most people hinge on supernatural happenings in order to strengthen their belief,
due to faith it has weakened religion because there is no evidence that s rational enough to
support it. Take for instance, biblical claims are crammed with hidden connotations such as
proverbs and various accounts such as the virgin birth of Jesus, the burning bush witnessed by
Moses and the walking on water are perceived as either being misinterpreted, or embellished
because the logic doesn t add up and their hasn t been any similar occurrences observed that could
support this claims. Nevertheless, many people have stated that their religion is true and real;
however there is a lot of emotion entangled in the belief which exposes certain people to
confirmation bias. Most people are too obstructed to see something that s beyond their religion,
considering the fact that there is no justification and evidence which makes it an even more fallible
assumption. On the other hand, with religion comes faith and what faith tries to do, is to enlighten
that the
higher being cannot be studied in order to be comprehended therefore blind faith is the only way
get to understand the purpose of this higher being . In the bible it s hard to present evidence
however, recently a potent relic of Christianity was exhibited which stirred up debate because
throughout history religion has been passed across

Hierarchical Structure Of Religion Chapter 3 Summary
Chapter Three: On the Hierarchical Structure of The Church and In Particular On the Episcopate
Christ created different ministries within His Church to benefit the Church and the ministers have
sacred powers and served the people in an orderly way, so that all may obtain salvation. This
council declares that Jesus set forth his Apostles and established His Church and willed the
Bishops, who were the successors of the Apostles, to shepherd his people until the end of the
world. He put Peter in charge and established a foundation of unity for the succession of the
apostles and the succession of Peter as the representative of Christ. Jesus called the disciples and

This also gave them helpers and ensured that the ministry would continue after their death. The
bishops, priests, and deacons serve the Church and shepherd the flock as teachers and just like
the office given to Peter is permanent, the office of the Bishops is permanent. The council says
that the bishops are like the Apostles and whoever hears the words of the bishops, are hearing
Christ, and whoever rejects their words, also rejects Christ. Through the Bishops, Christ is
preaching the word of God to all nations and is constantly administrating the sacraments to the
believers. The bishops chosen are the shepherds of the flock. The original Apostles passed on the
gift of the Holy Spirit to their successors through the laying on of hands. The sacred council
teaches that this is the sacrament of holy orders. This episcopal consecration confers the office of
governing and teaching. This is how bishops admit members into the episcopal body through the
sacrament of holy orders. And just like Peter and the Apostles had an apostolic college, the Pope,
the successor of Peter and the Bishops, the successor of apostles are joined as one body of unity.
However the body of Bishops has no authority unless it is in union

Smacking Persuasive Speech
Smacking children has been around for centuries; however the purpose of it has altered from the

largely by teenager parents, who have lower patients and low self control. I m strongly against
this concept of smacking your children for discipline, it s disgraceful to think that people in this
century still use the assistance of this conception. It s hard to believe, but sometimes children
smacking is only done to achieve satisfaction, for example an angry dad from work might come to

This is very strong opinion and has very depth meaning, I believe that the point that he was
trying to get across was that once you violate or smack your children, it influence the child to
think that violence is the way to solve any problem and this is not the way you want to bring up
your children. Statistics shows that 69 precent of Australia parents still find the use for smacking
their children, if we think about this logically, 69 precents of Australian children s possibly have
adapted to this this idea which shows dark future for the violence in Australia. I have witnessed
this adaptive behaviour myself, one of my cousin went through traumatizing child hood. He was
smacked at least once a day, I believe that his parents were too violent with him and this lead to,
my cousin getting in countless fights in schools. When parents smack their children, they don t
realize the long term consequence of it, which is exactly what happened with my cousin s

convicted of this and was dragged to court, and the children would have to suffer some much in
such a small age and might be forced to change his or her

Social Penetration Theory Paper
Rationale, pp. 395 396
Using the Social Penetration Theory, Afifi, Afifi, Merrill, Denes and Davis suggest that not getting
support from friends while being open and discussing their problems can increase anxiety and can
potentially harm the relationship. They want to conduct an experiment to prove that getting support
from peers can help to eliminate brooding and enhance the relationship.
Research Subjects, pp. 401
231 young adults, age ranging from 18 26, participated in the study and brought along one friend.
Most of the participants were female and the majority of the participants were white.

Nanny Services Essay
Nanny services is a merit good, a socially desirable but often under provided good. In a free
perfect competition market structure of nanny services, market failure, the inability to recognise
allocative efficiency, arise as a positive externality of consumption. A positive externality of
consumption is when the consumption of a good provides social benefits that exceed the private
benefits enjoyed by a consumer. In [Figure 1] assuming ceteris paribus, private benefit is an
incentive for both demand and supply market forces within a free unregulated market, and
equilibrium will result as the quantity being Q market at the price of P market. The marginal social
benefit curve represents the spill over benefits exceeding the private benefits... Show more content

There are various factors that determine the effectiveness of the imposition of a specific
subsidy. Ideally, the size of the specific subsidy is to be equivalent to the spill over benefits.
However, the extent of spill over benefits cannot be accurately measured. Therefore the
coincidence of marginal private cost curve and the marginal social cost curve is improbable. The
advantage of a specific subsidy is a greater quantity of nanny services can be produced, achieving
social optimum, at a relatively lower price. There are low socioeconomic status consumers with
low levels of income and poverty. Conscious or oblivious of the spill over benefits in the
consumption of nanny services, they are financially incapable to afford nanny services and are
excluded in the marginal private benefit curve. Therefore a specific subsidy, is inclusive of the
quantity demanded from low socioeconomic status consumers, encouraging and enabling them to
consume merit goods. The primary disadvantage of a specific subsidy is its opportunity cost.
Subsidising the nanny service market may deprive the opportunity of another market being
subsidised. Hypothetically, if the nanny service market was subsidised, the nanny service market is
developing efficiently at the expense of another market developing less or inefficiently. Another
disadvantage is despite the imposition of a subsidy, the issue of consumer ignorance arise, where a
portion of consumers are oblivious to the spill over benefits in the consumption of nanny

This allows the heart to beat slower and more efficiently to keep blood pressure under
control(Moore, Kristine). Some individuals might not have the extra time to do the recommended
amount of aerobic activity. Those people should ask themselves, do they have time to have a heart

Another activity that takes up time is eating. Growing up, children are taught to eat three square
meals a day. That s breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A study done by the United States Department of
Agriculture found that on an average day between 2006 08, Americans age 15 or older spend 67
minutes just eating and drinking. They also found that Americans spend 86.5 minutes eating while
multi tasking. That means that the majority of the times that people spend eating, they are
distracted by other things and not focused on what they eat. Becoming hearth healthy also
requires a diet that is high in fiber and antioxidants. Foods that are quick to eat on the go such as
candy bars or potato chips are the exact opposite of what should be eaten. These foods can be
detrimental to heart health. Foods that are high in sugar, sodium, trans fats, and ultimately calories
are the absolute worst choices to make. However, these foods are the easiest and cheapest to get on

Persuasive Essay On Energy Conservation
I am not surprised that the jury is still out on the convenience and comfort of energy conservation
since the confidence in coal, oil and nuclear power has been shaken over the years. The extraction
methods used in fracking and shale oil reserves should be under investigation by United States
because he landowners are constantly approached by unscrupulous companies eager to drill for oil
and natural gasbut with no clean up requirement enforced by the state and federal laws. The
New York Times articles outlines concerns and doubts as a result of this natural gas rush.
California, Colorado and a host other states are rushing to join the United States natural gas
boom. I believe that the shift from coal to gas is a great investment not to be ignored by the
United States, China and other developing countries. Errors are great opportunities to ensure the
efficient transferring of knowledge. Liquid energy is part of our life and ignoring the importance
will not solve the problems that can arise from faulty extracting methods. Our ancestors over a
century ago considered natural gas a waste product in oil fields however the discovery of a large
gas Vautor Laplaceliere 2
Field in the Panhandle in 1918 opened avenues for its use in the manufacturing of car tires and
home heating. Nevertheless coal, oil, and nuclear power remained the important source of energy.

Socrates s View Of Philosophical Thought
Socrates was a novel philosopher who challenged the limitations of philosophical thought during his
lifetime. More specifically, Socrates was a key proponent for the idea known as Dualism , in which
the mind (Soul) and the body are not mutually exclusive entices, bur rather interact in a tangible
manner in which they come to have a reciprocated relationship. Throughout many religions and
spiritual movements, Socrates view of a interaction between the immortal souland the physical body

The body is considered to be an obstacle to the afterlife and play no part in gain of knowledge

limited and only with us for so long and it has limitations desires, fears and much more nonsense.
He begins to talk about how no two bodies are alike, and how we should not rely on our senses

but is the stick really straight? I don t mean a log to a log a stone to a stone or anything else of

An Outsider In The Outsiders
The Outsiders is one of the themes in the story. Looking at life as an outsider and the feeling of
being treated as an outsider is a point of view. Someone who always feels like an outsider might
believe that life is unfair. We as teenagers tend consider ourselves to be grown ups already, but in
reality we are still under the control of others and this loss of control leads to the feeling that life
isn t fair. For example, Ponyboy understands that he is not safe walking the streets alone because
he could be attacked by the way he is dressed; this makes him feel like an outsider in his own town.
Ponyboy sees unfairness every day. With his parents being dead, Darry is forced to work two jobs

Importance Of Canadian Literature
Studying Literature in Grade 12
In this essay, I will prove that graduating students in Ontario should only study Canadian literature
in a Grade 12 English course. While good writers exist in all cultures, Ontario students should only
study Canadian writers. Becoming more familiar with our literature. Three reasons for this are; the
need to focus on our own Canadian culture despite being surrounded by other cultures: the need to
promote and establish our own writers, and the need to encourage younger Canadian authors.
I believe that students in Ontario taking English should only study Canadian literature because we
are completely swamped by the American culture around us. I think that this is a Canadian
tradition because we have always been a branch plant of another country starting with England and
France meaning that our own culture has never had the chance to develop since we have always
been under the thumb of a more powerful foreign culture. So, for years, a student in Ontario would
study Shakespeare and other British writers, today they may also study American authors such as
Hemingway. But many schools limit a student s exposure to the Canadian novel to ISP reading
lists. In this sense, Canada is an attic in which we have stored American and British literature
without considering our own. 1 No wonder a Canadian student has problems appreciating their
culture.
Often what Canadian literature is studied is very old. This includes works such as Margaret

The Problem With Income Inequality
We all have different opinions of what the American dream consists of. When the economy was
stable, most dreams consisted of having a great career, a big house with all the luxuries
imaginable. However, having a stable job, and saving for the future is simply what the
American dream has become. Some may argue that the American dream is no longer out there
because of the income inequality I assure to all those looking for the dream, inequality has
always been there and we should not allow anything to stop us from achieving what we want.
Like many working Americans, I never took the time to think about how income inequality
affected us and how immense it has become. The problem with income inequality is its rapid
increase, and the lack of effort to close that gap between the rich and the poor. According to
Robert Franks in Income Inequality: Too Big to Ignore , income growth has always remained at
the top 1 percent for instance, in 1976 it was 8.9 percent and by 2007 it rose to 23.5 percent
(581). Low wages and high unemployment rates have contributed to the income gap. The question
is what can the government do to help reduce the problem? If we think about it, there have always
been plenty of obstacles, enabling us to achieve the American dream but one should never give up
hope. Undoing tax cut for the wealthy to reduce income inequality is a recommendation given by
Paul Krugman (595). Undoing tax cuts on the rich would be very beneficial for low and middle class

How To Change The Dress Code
If my school were to change the dress code, there are multiple things I would change. I would
like for them to change the rule about leggings. Not everyone has the same body type, boys need

code. Some people can get away with wearing leggings which are usually people with a non
curvy body. Some people can t help if they are curvy. Leggings are very comfortable, so if

Describe The Causes And Effects Of Vitamin D
1.1 Vitamin D
Vitamin D is responsible for regulating the passage of calcium (Ca 2+ ) to the bones. Therefore, if
vitamin D is missing, this step does not occur and the bones begin to weaken and curl causing
irreversible malformations: rickets. This disease especially affects children.
Vitamin D plays an important role in the maintenance of organs and systems through multiple
functions, such as: the regulation of calcium and phosphorus levels in the blood, promoting the
intestinal absorption of them from food and reabsorption of calcium at the renal level. With this it
contributes to bone formation and mineralization, being essential for the development of the
skeleton. However, in very high doses, it can lead to bone resorption.
It also inhibits the secretions of parathyroid hormone (PTH) from the parathyroid gland and affects
the immune system due to its immunosuppressive role, promotion of phagocytosis and antitumor
activity. It is estimated that 1000 IU per day is the amount of vitamin D sufficient for a healthy
adult individual, whether male or female.
1.2.1 Mechanism
Vitamin D is a prohormone, so it has no hormonal activity by itself, but it is converted to the
active hormone (calcitriol) through a highly regulated synthesis mechanism. The synthesis of
cholesterol in the liver by means of Acetyl CoA is the first step, after several complex changes
we reach an intermediate called 7 dehydrocholesterol. When the UV rays have contact with the
skin, this 7 dehydrocholesterol has transformations producing vitamin D3. This vitamin D3 is not
biologically active therefore must be subjected to two hydroxylations: the first in the liver forming
25 hydroxycholecalciferol (calcidiol) and the second in the kidney forming 1,25
dihydroxycholecalciferol also called calcitriol (active form). Vitamin D2 follows the same process
(without the need for UV rays) to form 1,25 dihydroxiergocalciferol. 7 The production of vitamin D
in nature, apparently requires the presence of UV rays, even vitamin E in edible food is ultimately
derived from organisms; from mushrooms or fungi to animals, which cannot synthesize it except
through the action of solar rays, at some point in the synthetic chain. For example, fish contain
vitamin

Essay about Jim Crow s Legacy
While the Emancipation Proclamation marked the end of slavery in the U.S., it did little to address
the racism that remained. Left unchecked, that racism, like a weed, grew and its roots permeated
almost all sectors of American culture spreading from the southern white population throughout the
local and state governments south of the Mason Dixon Line. Jim Crow lawsprovided legal loopholes
that skirted the spirit of the Emancipation Proclamationand they gave legal cover to those who

This attitude resulted in an assortment of legislation that spanned many states throughout the
south; they included statutes governing education, the use of public facilities, dining,

person of lying, or of being deceitful in any way could place a negro in jail (Pilgrim), or worse,
dangling from the business end of a noose; these tactics served to crush the spirit of the
American Negro. While if this same approach were applied by white people against other white

How Can We Deal with the Problem of Illegal Immigration Essay
How Can We Deal With The Problem Of Illegal Immigration?
Being here as an illegal immigrant is a huge problem. Tax payer s money pays for their medical
bills, the jails, and deportation back to where they came from. Our jobs and identities are being
taken away as well. Coming to the United States is seen as an advantage to get ahead in life for
most other countries. When they take advantage of breaking the system it effects the citizens more
so than it does them. There are several people who came here and worked hard to get their
citizenship the legal way. When it seems the government is letting them get away with breaking the

However, research indicates that the majority of the illegal immigrants go to their chosen
destinations for the primarily economic and personal reasons, such as search for jobs opportunities
and family reunification. It thus implies that by understanding the reasons as to why these people
migrate illegally, the respective states may come up with executable measures to ensure that illegal
immigration is no more. The best option for solving the issue of illegal immigration in an effective
manner is by removing the incentives that draw the people into other states without following the
recommended legal procedures (Hoffmeier, 2009).
At first, the governments experiencing cases of illegal immigration need to enforce their laws of
immigration and to crack down on those employers that hire illegal aliens. The governments
should decide to make it a felony act for employing people without undergoing the proper
channels of immigration and checking the applicant s background (Gaines Kappeler, 2011). The
only way of making illegal immigrants leave the countries under which they reside illegally is by
making life difficult for them to keep on leaving there. For example, the governments should opt to
ignore granting driver s licenses, public schooling opportunities, food stamps and permanent
employment to the people that reside in the states illegally. Choosing this option is essential
because it is very hard to track and trace

Importance Of Ethics In Anthropology
Vishan Neupane Professor Ritu Khanduri ANTH 2322 002 1 December 2017 Ethics, fieldwork and
anthropology Anthropology is a worldwide discipline which involve social institution, humanities
and natural sciences. Cultural anthropology studies the contemporary human cultures and shows
how social behavior are formed and how they shape the world around them. Anthropological
researchers always have ethical obligations, especially to the materials they study, and the group of
people with whom they work. When exploring the community, anthropologists learn about matters
that their informants would prefer to keep their identity secret which leads them to protect
informant identity. Social research can impact ethical dilemmas. A simple mistake of the
anthropologist may lead to social isolation of an informant. Anthropologists should always know
whether the group they are being researched wishes to stay anonymous or receive recognition.
During an anthropologist s fieldwork, anthropologists look over enculturation. Enculturation is a
process by which we obtain and transmit culture which is experienced universally among humans.
It teaches the individual about their role in the society as well as what kind of behavior is accepted
within that culture and lifestyle. Some anthropologists are ethnocentric. They critique other groups
relative to their own ethnic group or culture, especially with concern for customs, language,
behavior, and religion. The group of people that falls in this

Childhood Immunizations and Why Some Children are not Getting Vaccines:

Abstract
Recent outbreaks of measles has promoted renewed interest in childhood vaccinations. However,
lingering doubts about the efficacy and safety of popular and recommended vaccines, specifically
the DTP and MMR vaccines, remain. It is not necessarily the attenuated virus portion of the
vaccines, but the ingredients which assist in the performance of the vaccines, that brings about
concern. Some studies report that, at various times and in certain populations, vaccines may pose

One reason that is resurging in the media is the notion that vaccines can be linked to autism. In
the middle is the result: cases of measles, mumps and rubella are occurring and populations of
children are at risk to contract these preventable viruses. It is therefore important to examine
whether vaccinations are indeed safe, if such vaccines pose adverse health risks, and exactly what
the nature of reasons are as to why some children do not receive their immunizations. Much of the
controversy initially arose out of a study published originally in 1998.

Criminal Behavior And Its Effects On Genetics
Criminal Behavior as seen in Genetics Criminal behavior is something that sociologists commonly
study. There are many theories about criminal behavior and deviance that have been made. One
that stands out is the theory that criminal behavior, or deviance, being closely related to genetics.
This theory refers to cases in which different genetic groups phenotypically respond differently to
the same array of environments. Basically, it states that through family a person can become or
think like a criminal. The thought that genetics can cause a human to become deviant seems a bit
far fetched. Humans have a mind of their own and can make their own decisions, what is in their
genes should not define their behavior. This being said, there are... Show more content on

They would not be considered at fault because it is in their genetic makeup that they are aggressive
and want to hurt others. The MAOA gene is a metabolic enzyme, which means that it stops the
work of the neurotransmitters, dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin, causing problems within
the enzyme that are associated with aggression (Wolfson, par 10). These problems within the
enzyme were made apparent through maltreatment of children. The primary maltreatment that
Caspi and Moffitt studied was when a child was a victim of physical and sexual abuse (Tabery 2).
What was found in their study was people with low MAOA activity drastically increase the risk of
having an antisocial personality disorder, while people with high MAOA only gradually develop
the risk (Tabury 3). Having an antisocial personality disorder be in your genetic makeup would not
make the person having it at fault. If it was in ones genetic makeup, then it would not be
possible to actually convict someone in court and they would have to be considered not
medically sane. The MAOA gene is found in everybody s X chromosome, so while women have
two copies of the X chromosome, men only have one so it s more common that men will have
more problems with MAOA gene (Wolfson, par. 10). However, even though everyone has this
gene, it does not cause a problem for most people. Through the Caspi Moffitt study it was shown
that the MAOA gene, while being there does not actually affect the brain

Characteristics Of Nocturnal Animals
Nocturnal animals are more active at night than daytime. These animals sleep during daytime and
hunt their food at night. They have special adaptation that helps them to survive at night. They
prefer to come out at night to escape the daytime heat though some nocturnal animals can be
seen during the day and others spend the whole day resting or sleeping. There are millions of
animals and some of it is nocturnal animals. We haven t discovered all of it and other nocturnal
animals become extinct as years passed by, mainly because of their declining habitat and human
encroachment of land for developmental projects. The deforestation is one example of it. They
cut trees that result to lose the animal s habitats though they did that for human s sake. We,
humans, need enough space especially our population is getting bigger as years passed by. As
they are losing their habitats, they don t have a choice but to go near our area and as our self
defense we kill them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First the predators, if it were daytime, they would easily spotted especially if their predators live in
trees or can fly. Small animals have better chance of going unnoticed as they forage for food and
water at night. Second is the prey that comes out at night, which happens to be a nocturnal also. It
is hard to hunt food at night but predators usually equip with great hearing and eyesight. Others use
echolocation to hunt food. Next is the competition. There is less competition at night. A diurnal,
animals that is more active at night, hunts their food at daytime and a nocturnal animal hunts their
food at night. In this way, both species have a chance to hunt their food without fighting each other.
Last, the temperature. Some animals, like in desserts, are nocturnal to avoid the daytime heat. They
sleep at night when the temperature is high and comes out at night when the temperature is

The Danger and Negativity of Misconceptions
Misconceptions are false ideas or beliefs that often root from pre mature assumptions, or inherited
point of views. These misconceptions exist, and will be eternally present. Misconceptions can be
formed about topics such as race, gender, politics, and culture. The results of minor misconceptions
could be harmless. However, misconceptions can be dangerous when they are major or
widespread. After performing a subject analysis on A Lesson Before Dying, Persepolis, and
Exploring the Negative Consequences of Stereotyping ; I conclude that when an individual person
or party is subjected to a misconception, they will react negatively.
Stereotypes are one form of misconceptions. A stereotypeis an unfair belief that all people or ...

Further proof of my claim s validity can be found within the following quote taken from Sam
and Grant s conversation, You re smart. Maybe you re just a little too smart for your own good

intelligent African Americans. Sam Guidry acknowledges Grant s intelligence; however, he
also conveys that he does not approve of it. Jefferson s defense and Sam Guidry are perfect
examples of the common white person s mindset during the 1940 s. Both examples given
represent instances in which racial stereotypes are present and how they affect the people
subjected to them. Obviously, as the given support shows, the parties who are subjected to these
stereotypes react negatively. In Marjane Satrapi s graphic novel Persepolis, a common
misconception among the Iranian children was the meaning of the saying on a trip (Satrapi

previous statement can be confirmed by the following quotes from Marji and Laly s
conversation: Marji inquired, Where is your father? and Laly responded, on a trip (Satrapi 48).
However, Marji wasn t convinced by this way of thinking. The reader could conclude this from
Marji s response to Laly s last comment, which was Don t you know that when they keep saying
someone is on a trip it really means he is dead? , at least that

Freedom In Colonial America
For many immigrants who emigrated from Europe, the New World was an opportunity to
escape the oppressive reign of monarchs and the papacy for a better life, and a way to
experience what they believed to be true freedom. Although, not everyone expressed, or
experience freedom in the same way. For men, and those who were not indentured servants, were
provided more opportunities in the European colonies than they did at home, for the colonists,
freedom meant owning land. Some people such as, Johannes Hänner, didn t even require land to
feel free in the New World, it was simply a matter of being able to live comfortably with family
and friends. However, this positive outlook was not widely shared among all colonists, in Virginia

How Is Brutus A Tragic Hero
Brutus: The True Tragic Hero of Julius Caesar
In Julius Caesar, it would make sense to assume Julius Caesar is the tragic hero being that the title
of the play is Julius Caesar; however Brutus is arguably the real tragic hero due to several reasons:
he remains for the entirety of the story unlike Caesar, he possesses a character flaw that brings about
his downfall and also learns something about himself. Before any argument is made, it is important
to define tragic hero: A man or woman who was a respected royal or noble person who possessed
some character flaw that would eventually bring about his/her downfall; the flaw was often pride,
anger, or just rash behavior which causes him to suffer and learn something important about
himself. This definition is important as it will determine why Brutus is or isn t the tragic hero of
the play. Although Caesar dies because of one of his own flaws it is not hard to argue against him
being the tragic hero. He dies so quickly, the audience hardly has a chance to form ... Show more

Many times he blows an easy decision to better his cause by giving his opponent the upper hand,
one such instance occurs when he allows Mark Antony to speak at Caesar s funeral inciting the
mobs to go against Brutus. This could have been easily avoided if Brutus had taken the
opportunity to kill Antony earlier and even after missing that chance simply refusing him the
chance to speak at the funeral. In some ways Shakespeare uses Brutus s name in an allegorical
form since Brutus sounds similar to brute. A brute is someone or something that merely does what
they re told and nothing else; however this isn t entirely accurate as Brutus does think for himself,
but sometimes is oblivious to things that would be obvious to most. Brutus s character flaw could
be considered to be this: a lack of strategy and common sense which ultimately ruin

Catholic Charities Case Study As the new office manager of the Southern region for Catholic Charities, the regional director has asked me to address some challenges that have been mentioned to them. As a new manager, I have been looking over the past couple of weeks as different areas that have been mentioned to me by the regional manager and have been able to identify some issues that need to be addressed immediately in order to make the office run better in order to raise the agency to a higher level. The key issues that have stood out so far which need to be dealt with are employee absenteeism, poor morale amongst the staff, the productivity expectations, lack of valid performance appraisals, the high turnover rate and lack of training. Instead of having four to eight measurements under each category, I would have one to four standards under each with four being the highest amount under each category. In this manner, the standards would be more oriented towards what is being measured. For example, under the mission category I would only provide one standard as there is only one mission statement and the employee either meets it or does not. I would also add a new category of Cultural Responsiveness as this is a concern in the treatment of the clients. The outcomes would also be done differently so that the scores either showed that the employee exceeded expectations (EE), met expectations (ME) or needs improvement (I). I find that this will prompt the employee to want to meet the expectations or aim to exceed what is expected of them. In order to roll this out, it will be presented to all supervisors and managers so that they are aware of the changes that will be put in place as well as being able to inform the staff of the upcoming changes so that they can work to achieve their goals and ... • 6. Definition Essay On Ownership Ownership Essay Your neighbors may own multiple vehicles. You may own an Iphone 6. Your school mate may own almost every video game ever made. What do you and these people have in common? You all own objects. But what does it mean to own something? Ownership can mean far more than having possessions with your name on them. Ownership relates to your sense of self and personal identity. Philosophers like Aristotle and Plato believed that owning tangible items relates to how one sees himself. Being human, we brag about who owns what and how much of that what they own. Some people believe that the more extravagant items they own, the more he,or she, is worth . It s something that you can be proud of and call yours. Jean Paul Sartre, a French philosopher, believed that owning something didn t have to come down to owning physical items. What does owning a very expensive item really mean to you? Having a talent or skill is unique, and unlike tangible items, talents can t be bought and can t be taken away from you. Having a special gift makes you the person you are and what you are known for. It s something you own . With it, you re one of a kind and it makes you feel good about yourself. Ownership of a special talent defines who you are and elevates your self esteem. There are many interpretations on what it means to own something. Some people see owning things as a way to show off how much they re worth. Other people may see owning things as having a capability that other people do not have, like a special gift or skill that makes them unique. Owning something means being able to call it yours. • 7. The Doctrine Of Precedent And How It Operates Within A... 1.Explain the doctrine of precedent and how it operates within a criminal court hierarchy. (3 marks) The doctrine of precedent is the principle in which judges follow when deciding the results of cases. This principle ensures that the law is applied consistently across matters, sometimes applying past reasoning from similar cases. Some courts are bound to follow the doctrine of precedents if a similar case was tried in a higher court. Generally, the High Court of Australia has precedence over all courts (Federal, Supreme, District, Local etc.) and is not bound to follow the decisions made in these lower courts. 2.Briefly describe the following court hearings and explain their main purpose: a)A jury trial Jury trials are held in District or Supreme Courts. These trials are used to ensure that people that are not influenced by the government and power can have their say in the verdict of a defendant. The jury is a selection of people that are chosen to attend a case and listen to evidence to make determinations on questions of fact. The judge then takes the jury s decision into account when deciding the defendant s verdict. b) A committal hearing Committal hearings are only held for some indictable offences (such as manslaughter or aggravated burglary). P. Salmelainen (1992) suggests that committal hearings are used to determine whether there is enough evidence to warrant the accused being sent to stand trial. These hearings are often held in local courts until the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is a story by edgar allan poe that was published in november of 1846 in a womans magazine. During the story he uses many types of imagery. He seems to try to use many of these to establish a well made story. This story is so well established to be creepy and disturbing that in many parts of the story he lets the reader think for themselves so many people have different opinions on the story. They are encrusted with niter.ВЁ In this part of the story he is trying to show the reader how damp the vaults are because of the niter. He does a really good job of showing us how it feels down there like in this sentence ВЁWe passed through long walls of piled skeletons , with casks and puncheons intermingling, into the inmost recesses of the catacombs.ВЁ This is very descriptive and makes you imagine how it looks and how dark and decrepit... • 11. Examples Of Sentences Just how do we start that perfect sentence? It can be a tough decision. Sentence beginnings are like first impressions, and we want to make sure they re right. And while there s no single correct way to start a sentence, we need to vary them to ensure our writing doesn t get stale or boring. So, what makes a bad sentence beginning anyway? Are there rules? Well, no, but let s look at some examples of how repeated simple sentence openings can become stilted and tough to read. For example: John went to the store. Anthony went with him. They bought food and drinks. They bought flowers for John s mother. The man at the cash register smiled at them and gave them a discount. They returned home and put away the groceries. What do all these sentence beginnings have in common? As we can see, each one consists of a noun followed by a verb. Unfortunately, these simple sentences quickly become boring, decreasing the impact of our writing. Let s see what happens when we vary them a bit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 14. Field Research Report On Buddhism Field Research Report Buddhism Angela Ginalick Fall 2014 I.Introduction Buddhism was started by a man named Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha ). He was born ca. 563 B.C.E. in Lumbini near the Himalayan foothills. Siddhartha Gautama was the warrior son of a king and queen. Legend has it that at his birth an astrologer predicted he would withdraw from the temporal life. His father, in an effort to prevent this, provided him with many luxuries and pleasures. As a young man, he once went on a series of four chariot rides where he first saw severe forms of suffering: old age, illness, and death (a corpse), as well as an ascetic renouncer, according to the Asia Society (2014). The Buddha had a difficult time reconciling his life compared to human suffering and abandoned his way of life leaving his wife and new son. He lived in the forest to the point of near starvation. Finally, he ate some food and sat down by a tree to meditate. According to some approximately six months later he attained Nirvana and discovered the true answers of suffering and the release from it. There are three basic principles of the Buddha s teachings: Sila, Samadhi, and Panna. Sila is the development of morality. Samadhi is the tool to purify the mind on order to see its nature, how to control it, how to develop it, and make use of it. Panna is wisdom or enlightenment the realization of the true nature of life and universe at large. The Buddha taught the Four Noble Truths and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Nietzsche s Loss Of The Power Of God God is dead. This is perhaps one of the most famous quotes in the history of philosophy. It has been subject to many interpretations and in this essay, one of these interpretations is going to be explored. God is dead means that the source of man s guidance through life, which is God, has lost its power. This loss of power of God will impact society from its foundation to its apex. This is because as the old structure, which is dependent on God collapses, what will fill the void left by Santa Claus? What is man supposed to do then, other than following a moral code that has been the norm for ages? What will fill that void? All of these are questions that arise out of the fear of the void left by God upon the heart of man. Must man then become... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As it seems, humans will always need something to follow that is outside of themselves. From the Nietzschean point of view, instead of looking outward for guidance, we must look inward and become the driving force of our lives through lived experience and this is what makes Nietzsche an existentialist. What I relate is the history of the next two centuries. I describe what is coming, what can no longer come differently: the advent of nihilism. . . . For some time now our whole European culture has been moving as toward a catastrophe. This quote is projecting the consequences of God s death and not long after Nietzsche s time, what he predicted had come to pass. Furthermore, The Death of God has two possible implications. In the short run, the consequences will not be pleasant, but in the long term, they will be. The projected short term implication of this is the rise of Nihilism. Described as ambiguous by Nietzsche, nihilism is an outlook on life that sees life as meaningless. The problem with nihilism is that it still relies on the void left by the external source of direction even though the idea of God that once governed it is dead. For this reason, nihilism is ambiguous because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Essay on Faith as a Basis of Knowledge in Religion According to the bible in Hebrews 11:1 faith is said to be an assurance of things that are hoped for, evidence of things that are unseen, on the other hand, faith is generally defined as a strong assurance based on assumptions but not a certain decision based on evidence. Throughout history faith as basis of knowledge has been regarded as a controversial issue, especially in religion. This is mainly because religion is archaic, there are no traces of evidence but people strongly believe in it and they consider it as the truth. Nevertheless, many people have stated that their religion is true and real; however there is a lot of emotion entangled in the belief which exposes certain people to confirmation bias. Most people are too obstructed to see something that s beyond their religion, considering the fact that there is no justification and evidence which makes it an even more fallible assumption. Hierarchical Structure Of Religion Chapter 3 Summary Chapter Three: On the Hierarchical Structure of The Church and In Particular On the Episcopate Christ created different ministries within His Church to benefit the Church and the ministers have sacred powers and served the people in an orderly way, so that all may obtain salvation. This council declares that Jesus set forth his Apostles and established His Church and willed the Bishops, who were the successors of the Apostles, to shepherd his people until the end of the world. He put Peter in charge and established a foundation of unity for the succession of the apostles and the succession of Peter as the representative of Christ. The bishops, priests, and deacons serve the Church and shepherd the flock as teachers and just like the office given to Peter is permanent, the office of the Bishops is permanent. The council says that the bishops are like the Apostles and whoever hears the words of the bishops, are hearing Christ, and whoever rejects their words, also rejects Christ. Through the Bishops, Christ is preaching the word of God to all nations and is constantly administrating the sacraments to the believers. The bishops chosen are the shepherds of the flock. The original Apostles passed on the gift of the Holy Spirit to their successors through the laying on of hands. The sacred council teaches that this is the sacrament of holy orders. This episcopal consecration confers the office of governing and teaching. This is how bishops admit members into the episcopal body through the sacrament of holy orders. And just like Peter and the Apostles had an apostolic college, the Pope, the successor of Peter and the Bishops, the successor of apostles are joined as one body of unity. In a free perfect competition market structure of nanny services, market failure, the inability to recognise allocative efficiency, arise as a positive externality of consumption. A positive externality of consumption is when the consumption of a good provides social benefits that exceed the private benefits enjoyed by a consumer. In [Figure 1] assuming ceteris paribus, private benefit is an incentive for both demand and supply market forces within a free unregulated market, and equilibrium will result as the quantity being Q market at the price of P market. There are various factors that determine the effectiveness of the imposition of a specific subsidy. Ideally, the size of the specific subsidy is to be equivalent to the spill over benefits. However, the extent of spill over benefits cannot be accurately measured. Therefore the coincidence of marginal private cost curve and the marginal social cost curve is improbable. The advantage of a specific subsidy is a greater quantity of nanny services can be produced, achieving social optimum, at a relatively lower price. There are low socioeconomic status consumers with low levels of income and poverty. Conscious or oblivious of the spill over benefits in the consumption of nanny services, they are financially incapable to afford nanny services and are excluded in the marginal private benefit curve. Therefore a specific subsidy, is inclusive of the quantity demanded from low socioeconomic status consumers, encouraging and enabling them to consume merit goods. The primary disadvantage of a specific subsidy is its opportunity cost. Subsidising the nanny service market may deprive the opportunity of another market being subsidised. Hypothetically, if the nanny service market was subsidised, the nanny service market is developing efficiently at the expense of another market developing less or inefficiently. Another disadvantage is despite the imposition of a subsidy, the issue of consumer ignorance arise, where a portion of consumers are oblivious to the spill over benefits in the consumption of nanny ... • 29. Importance Of Canadian Literature Studying Literature in Grade 12 In this essay, I will prove that graduating students in Ontario should only study Canadian literature in a Grade 12 English course. While good writers exist in all cultures, Ontario students should only study Canadian writers. Becoming more familiar with our literature. Three reasons for this are; the need to focus on our own Canadian culture despite being surrounded by other cultures: the need to promote and establish our own writers, and the need to encourage younger Canadian authors. I believe that students in Ontario taking English should only study Canadian literature because we are completely swamped by the American culture around us. I think that this is a Canadian tradition because we have always been a branch plant of another country starting with England and France meaning that our own culture has never had the chance to develop since we have always been under the thumb of a more powerful foreign culture. So, for years, a student in Ontario would study Shakespeare and other British writers, today they may also study American authors such as Hemingway. But many schools limit a student s exposure to the Canadian novel to ISP reading lists. In this sense, Canada is an attic in which we have stored American and British literature without considering our own. 1 No wonder a Canadian student has problems appreciating their culture. • 31. The Problem With Income Inequality We all have different opinions of what the American dream consists of. When the economy was stable, most dreams consisted of having a great career, a big house with all the luxuries imaginable. However, having a stable job, and saving for the future is simply what the American dream has become. Some may argue that the American dream is no longer out there because of the income inequality I assure to all those looking for the dream, inequality has always been there and we should not allow anything to stop us from achieving what we want. Like many working Americans, I never took the time to think about how income inequality affected us and how immense it has become. The problem with income inequality is its rapid increase, and the lack of effort to close that gap between the rich and the poor. According to Robert Franks in Income Inequality: Too Big to Ignore , income growth has always remained at the top 1 percent for instance, in 1976 it was 8.9 percent and by 2007 it rose to 23.5 percent (581). Low wages and high unemployment rates have contributed to the income gap. The question is what can the government do to help reduce the problem? If we think about it, there have always been plenty of obstacles, enabling us to achieve the American dream but one should never give up hope. Undoing tax cut for the wealthy to reduce income inequality is a recommendation given by Paul Krugman (595). Undoing tax cuts on the rich would be very beneficial for low and middle class ... • 34. Describe The Causes And Effects Of Vitamin D 1.1 Vitamin D Vitamin D is responsible for regulating the passage of calcium (Ca 2+ ) to the bones. Therefore, if vitamin D is missing, this step does not occur and the bones begin to weaken and curl causing irreversible malformations: rickets. This disease especially affects children. Vitamin D plays an important role in the maintenance of organs and systems through multiple functions, such as: the regulation of calcium and phosphorus levels in the blood, promoting the intestinal absorption of them from food and reabsorption of calcium at the renal level. With this it contributes to bone formation and mineralization, being essential for the development of the skeleton. However, in very high doses, it can lead to bone resorption. It also inhibits the secretions of parathyroid hormone (PTH) from the parathyroid gland and affects the immune system due to its immunosuppressive role, promotion of phagocytosis and antitumor activity. It is estimated that 1000 IU per day is the amount of vitamin D sufficient for a healthy adult individual, whether male or female. 1.2.1 Mechanism Vitamin D is a prohormone, so it has no hormonal activity by itself, but it is converted to the active hormone (calcitriol) through a highly regulated synthesis mechanism. The synthesis of cholesterol in the liver by means of Acetyl CoA is the first step, after several complex changes we reach an intermediate called 7 dehydrocholesterol. When the UV rays have contact with the skin, this 7 dehydrocholesterol has transformations producing vitamin D3. This vitamin D3 is not biologically active therefore must be subjected to two hydroxylations: the first in the liver forming 25 hydroxycholecalciferol (calcidiol) and the second in the kidney forming 1,25 dihydroxycholecalciferol also called calcitriol (active form). Vitamin D2 follows the same process (without the need for UV rays) to form 1,25 dihydroxiergocalciferol. 7 The production of vitamin D in nature, apparently requires the presence of UV rays, even vitamin E in edible food is ultimately derived from organisms; from mushrooms or fungi to animals, which cannot synthesize it except through the action of solar rays, at some point in the synthetic chain. For example, fish contain vitamin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The best option for solving the issue of illegal immigration in an effective manner is by removing the incentives that draw the people into other states without following the recommended legal procedures (Hoffmeier, 2009). At first, the governments experiencing cases of illegal immigration need to enforce their laws of immigration and to crack down on those employers that hire illegal aliens. The governments should decide to make it a felony act for employing people without undergoing the proper channels of immigration and checking the applicant s background (Gaines Kappeler, 2011). Importance Of Ethics In Anthropology Vishan Neupane Professor Ritu Khanduri ANTH 2322 002 1 December 2017 Ethics, fieldwork and anthropology Anthropology is a worldwide discipline which involve social institution, humanities and natural sciences. Cultural anthropology studies the contemporary human cultures and shows how social behavior are formed and how they shape the world around them. Anthropological researchers always have ethical obligations, especially to the materials they study, and the group of people with whom they work. When exploring the community, anthropologists learn about matters that their informants would prefer to keep their identity secret which leads them to protect informant identity. Social research can impact ethical dilemmas. A simple mistake of the anthropologist may lead to social isolation of an informant. Anthropologists should always know whether the group they are being researched wishes to stay anonymous or receive recognition. During an anthropologist s fieldwork, anthropologists look over enculturation. Enculturation is a process by which we obtain and transmit culture which is experienced universally among humans. It teaches the individual about their role in the society as well as what kind of behavior is accepted within that culture and lifestyle. Some anthropologists are ethnocentric. They critique other groups relative to their own ethnic group or culture, especially with concern for customs, language, behavior, and religion. The group of people that falls in this ... There are many theories about criminal behavior and deviance that have been made. One that stands out is the theory that criminal behavior, or deviance, being closely related to genetics. This theory refers to cases in which different genetic groups phenotypically respond differently to the same array of environments. Basically, it states that through family a person can become or think like a criminal. The thought that genetics can cause a human to become deviant seems a bit far fetched. The MAOA gene is a metabolic enzyme, which means that it stops the work of the neurotransmitters, dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin, causing problems within the enzyme that are associated with aggression (Wolfson, par 10). These problems within the enzyme were made apparent through maltreatment of children. The primary maltreatment that Caspi and Moffitt studied was when a child was a victim of physical and sexual abuse (Tabery 2). What was found in their study was people with low MAOA activity drastically increase the risk of having an antisocial personality disorder, while people with high MAOA only gradually develop the risk (Tabury 3). Having an antisocial personality disorder be in your genetic makeup would not make the person having it at fault. If it was in ones genetic makeup, then it would not be possible to actually convict someone in court and they would have to be considered not medically sane. The MAOA gene is found in everybody s X chromosome, so while women have two copies of the X chromosome, men only have one so it s more common that men will have more problems with MAOA gene (Wolfson, par. 10). However, even though everyone has this gene, it does not cause a problem for most people. Through the Caspi Moffitt study it was shown that the MAOA gene, while being there does not actually affect the brain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Is Brutus A Tragic Hero Brutus: The True Tragic Hero of Julius Caesar In Julius Caesar, it would make sense to assume Julius Caesar is the tragic hero being that the title of the play is Julius Caesar; however Brutus is arguably the real tragic hero due to several reasons: he remains for the entirety of the story unlike Caesar, he possesses a character flaw that brings about his downfall and also learns something about himself. Before any argument is made, it is important to define tragic hero: A man or woman who was a respected royal or noble person who possessed some character flaw that would eventually bring about his/her downfall; the flaw was often pride, anger, or just rash behavior which causes him to suffer and learn something important about himself.
