Free Cash Flow
Free cash flow
In corporate finance, free cash flow (FCF) is cash flow available for distribution among all the
securities holders of an organization. They include equity holders, debt holders, preferred stock
holders, convertible security holders, and so on.
G. Bennett Stewart the economic model of value holds that share prices are determined by just two
things: the cash to be generated over the lifetime of a business and the risk of the cash receipts .
GSB (1990), The Quest for Value
FCF is the cashflow generated by a company s operations that is free, or net, of the new capital
invested for growth. Imagine all a company s cash receipts are deposited in a cigar box, and that all of
its cash operating outlays are taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first is the accounting for the consumption of capital goods. The Net Income measure uses
depreciation, while the Free Cash Flow measure uses last period s net capital purchases. Measurement
Type | Component | Advantage | Disadvantage | Free Cash Flow | Prior period net investment spending
| Spending is in current dollars | Capital investments are at the discretion of management, so spending
may be sporadic. | Net Income | Depreciation charge | Charges are smoothed, related to cumulative
prior purchases | Allowing for typical 2% inflation per year, equipment purchased 10 years ago for
$100 would now cost about $122. With 10 year straight line depreciation the old machine would have
an annual depreciation of $10, but the new, identical machine would have depreciation of $12.2, or
22% more. |
The second difference is that the Free Cash Flow measurement deducts

Resilience In Charter School
Resilience
There have been times when bouncing back from a difficult situation is hard, but it doesn t always
have to be. You use this tool everyday and you don t even know it. Those little times when you feel
like quitting but know it s worth it or even flexibility can mess you up a bit, resilience comes in handy
there too. There are many times in school where I have wanted to give up, this could be in school,
during a game or match but that doesn t mean I gave up. I used resilience without even knowing that
this word existed! In my charter school we play a lot of four square, I really sucked at the game when
we first started but after a while, even when I really hated the game, I knew I wanted to be the best so
I kept playing and now

Deloitte’ Success and Its Strategic Human Resource
Deloitte Success and Its Strategic Human Resource Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited, also branded
as Deloitte , is the largest private professional services organization in the world. It has almost

financial advisory services. In the mid of 19th century, Deloitte started its business earlier than any
other competitors in the professional services industry. Deloitte is now also famous for its accounting

The last is anticipating and responding to mission, things like critical events proactively addressing
strategic challenges, instead of reacting after the fact. These challenges have a tremendous impact on
an organization s overall performance. Thus, Deloitte came up with the idea of partnership which
focuses on strategic people issues, not just administration and operating efficiency and deals the
problem of keeping a sustainable advantage in the marketplace. To achieve the goal of building
partnership, this requires HR greatly upgrade its talent and capabilities. However, at first they were
weak in HR innovations. It is expensive, difficult to achieve, and hard to sustain a good human
resource strategy. To close the gap in innovations, Deloitte had to either build or buy for HR. They
finally chose to do both. They first increase its investment in business related training in order to help
HR staff improve their business knowledge and experience. They also recruit leaders and staff with
more aggressively, actively attitudes to fill the shortage of talents. Deloitte believes that before HR can
help the broader organization address its strategic talent challenges, HR must first address its own
talent challenges. As the employee gets promoted to Partner, he can share out 10% bonus from
Deloitte each year. Deloitte uses this strategy to create a high performance culture and develop and

Futurism Essay
FUTURISM
Futurism (lat. Futurus = future) was a movement in literature, visual art, fashion, architecture, theatre,
music and film in the early 20th century, launched by Italian poet Filippo Tommaso Marinetti.
Futurism appeared as a fervent denouncer of the past. Italian art represented the past Ancient,
Renaissance and Baroque art and culture. In the early 1900s, Italian artists and writers believed that
the Machine Age could have changed the situation and develop into a new awareness. F. Marinetti
called the new movement futurism to apprehend the idea of modernity, to glorify speed, technological
society, industrialism, dynamism, violence and youth.
Futurism appeared as a cult of power and dynamism, at the same time, in art, as a violation of
aesthetic norms using the production of art as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We will sing of the great crowds agitated by work, pleasure and revolt; the multi colored and
polyphonic surf of revolutions in modern capitals: the nocturnal vibration of the arsenals and the
workshops beneath their violent electric moons: the gluttonous railway stations devouring smoking
serpents; factories suspended from the clouds by the thread of their smoke; bridges with the leap of
gymnasts flung across the diabolic cutlery of sunny rivers: adventurous steamers sniffing the horizon;
great breasted locomotives, puffing on the rails like enormous steel horses with long tubes for bridle,
and the gliding flight of aeroplanes whose propeller sounds like the flapping of a flag and the applause
of enthusiastic crowds.
The passionate tone of manifest was expressing the principles of futurism being a dynamic art
corresponding to the new industrial era. Futurism intended the keep up with the speed of the era.
Compelling tone and the usage of must, want, and will evokes the impression of aggression,
determination, eagerness for a change, asperity and undoubtedly has ability to create a noisy voice

The Non Denominational church is an alternative traditional style that speaks to me from experience.
The Non Denominational traditional style of worship is about God and his attributes. The church

using the pulpit to slash people or tell others business that was told them in confidence. They focus on

Regional Pacific Super Power Is Not A Member, China
One thing that you may notice about the TPP is that one regional Pacific super power is not a member,
China. The TPP will cover approximately 40% of the world economy, and supporters of the agreement
will say that these numbers will increase if it is a success. This can be seen as other countries limiting
the power of China, and growing together to do so. This is a highly realistic reason for cooperation,
and it has some support as China is proposing its own trade agreement in the region. China sees the
TPP as something that may infringe on its power in the region, and so it is countering with a trade
agreement of its own. You may also consider the agreement a liberal move for the member countries.

Moving on, we will touch on one last region of the world, South America. The Union of South
American Nations (UNASUR) is a relatively new organization, only signed into legislation in 2008. It
is directly stated to be modeled after the European Union, and is the most extensive of the political
economic that is mentioned in this paper. Former Secretary General Allan Wagner Tizón of the
Andrean Community stated that a complete model like the EU would be possible by 2019. This is not
something that has only been spoken, even the way it presents itself is significantly different from
other unions. It delegates task to many nongovernmental organization (NGO), organization like the
South American Council of Infrastructure and Planning of UNASUR (COSIPLAN) and the South
American Council on Health of UNASUR (CSS). The later actually aims to promote price fixing
across the continent as a drug procurement process and consolidating a single information tool. Again,
the presence and prevalence of NGOs is that in the liberal mindset and directly takes power from the
member governments. The ability to cheat among governments is thus lower, so cooperation is a lot
easier. These NGOs will have the capacity to monitor all the resources of member countries, so
cheating will be near impossible, and if it is possible, will be

Disney and Discrimination
When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true. Disney uses this slogan as well as many others to
surround society with a world of happiness, where dreams come true and anything is possible.
However, there are some of you who believe that this thought process is subliminal and Disney is

With that in mind, the first step I wish to take, which is also the same topic I wish to end this letter
with, is in the direction of the history behind the Disney Corporation. Disney s history obviously starts
with the big man himself, Walt Disney. Many see Walt Disney as the greatest visionary and greatest
artist of our time; he was a man who believed in the value of fun, and taught us to put clean pleasure
up there with God and our country. (Washington Post)
I am interested in entertaining people, in bringing pleasure, particularly, to others, rather than being
concerned with expressing myself or obscure creative impressions. Walt Disney, 1958

Video game censorship is growing in the spotlight as technology grows. Parents are more concerned

censorship out there and available for the consumers use. The Entertainment Software Rating Board

video game censorship is being taken to court. This is where a fine line is drawn because it could

One of the roles of the rating systems were to control the amount of sexual content, rate the games
based on the content that was in the game, and to state it in the advertising and the game box. Even
with all the commotion over the mature games, most parents do not allow their children to play. A
graph compiled with information form the ESRB site from a survey they gave parents shows the
differences in how often parents allow their children to play mature games. The number of parents that
allow their children to play mature games is very low compared to those that are never allowed. Most
of the children that are allowed to play these mature games are generally thirteen and older. (ESRB,

the Electronic Software Association or the ESA. The roles of the ESRB are to assign games a rating
based on their content, enforce industry advertising guidelines, and to ensure responsible online
privacy practices. The rating system is fairly easy to understand. Ratings are broken down into six

Summary Of The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir
In The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir questions the idea held in society that those who live simpler
lives with no foreseeable challenges are inherently content and satisfied in their lives. Specifically, she
disagrees with the idea that women who are oppressed, and thus, due to their lack of opportunities and
freedoms, must lead lives that the patriarchal society makes available to them, are happier than the
women whose freedom brings them challenges and shortcomings. De Beauvoir claims that we cannot
assume someone is happy from what we see, and we cannot simply assume happiness means to that
person what it does to us; it is not too clear just what the word happy really mean and still less what
true values it may mask. There is no possibility measuring the happiness of others, and it is always
easy to describe as happy the situation in which one wishes to place them, (de Beauvoir 261). She
continues to discuss this idea of seeing one as happy in the situation the observer views as ideal,
specifically the non working woman stripped of her rights, whose lack of purpose and duties is seen as
peaceful happiness, in particular those who are condemned to stagnation are often pronounced happy
on the pretext that happiness consists in being at rest, (de Beauvoir 261). This is not to say a woman s
happiness cannot be found being a housewife, but one cannot assume what will bring women joy and
fulfillment, because all people are different with varying wants and needs. Women need all the
opportunities available and full liberation in order to be able to find their happiness, if it can be found.
Sara Ahmed says, Feminism does not guarantee what we will find through this expansion of bodily
horizons. It simply opens up the places where we can look, (Ahmed 70). Ahmed goes on to explain
how happiness may not even be a healthy goal, as often women are expected to give up much in order
to be able to find a happiness that is likely unachievable. Ahmed also discusses the 2002 film The
Hours, which tells the stories of three women living in different eras all struggling with their
happiness in their vastly different lives. All three women experience other people in their lives telling
them that they should be happy

The Nazi Regime Of Adolf Hitler At Auschwitz Birkenau...
1.1 million. That is the number of people exterminated by the Nazi regime of Adolph Hitler at
Auschwitz Birkenau death camp between 1940 45. (Auschwitz Birkenau museum online) The raw
number itself absolutely staggering, too large for any human being to wrap their minds around. It is a
large enough number to inspire skepticism, disbelief, and outrage. To this day, decades after the fact,
there are still those who deny that any of it ever happened because the numbers are just too big. It is
better to think of this tragedy in more personal terms: as in 1.1 million families physically ripped
apart, 1.1 million dreams snuffed out, and untold numbers of survivors left scared forever. Human
faces need to be attached to the raw numbers, or else the numbers become a point of data, something
which can be spun to serve up moral or political advantage in today s society. We must remember
what happened in Auschwitz Birkenau, and the other Nazi concentration camps. All of humanity must
remember or we are surely doomed to one day repeat this dark chapter in our history. The history of
the Jewish people is littered with tales of religious based violence, state organized pogroms, and
forced evictions. American jewish parents have taken the old rhyme: Columbus sailed the Ocean Blue

Roxana By Daniel Defoa Analysis
I thought a woman was a free agent, as well as a man, and was born free (Defoe, 2427). During the
time of the Restoration, women were taught that their worth in society was solely based on their
reputations. They were to remain virgins until they were married. When married, they were to be
obedient to their husbands. Their sole responsibility was to their household. This caused many to feel
a loss of identity. In Daniel Defoe s Roxana, Roxana refuses to accept the role given to her by society
in a patriarchal age when a husband s role was to govern his family and household. This rejection
allows Roxana to have power over the men in her life.
Throughout the story of Roxana, the union of marriage is continuously coming into play. Roxana
continues to avoid the act of marriage and the wifely role, which she habitually equates to servitude,
slavery and imprisonment. She declares, a woman [gives] herself entirely away from herself, in
marriage (2427). Roxana truly believes that a woman loses her identity in marriage. Regardless of her
class in society, she is more equal to the servants than to her own husband.
In hopes to suppress Roxana s beliefs, the merchant tries to show how bad man really has it in society.
He alleges that man had all the care of things devolved upon him (2427). He believes that man didn t
ask for their place in society either. That while women just live quiet and unconcerned in the world,
men are the only ones struggling. They must deal with the

Essay on Suffering in Titues Andronicus and King Lear
Suffering in Titues Andronicus and King Lear
An essential element to any Shakespearean tragedy is the idea of human suffering. In both Titus
Andronicus and King Lear no one can deny that the characters in these plays do indeed suffer and at
great lengths, but the question begs to be asked what is the source of this suffering? Keeping in mind
that during the times in which William Shakespeare wrote death, adultery and fragrant sexuality where
at an optimal level and as such single parent families frequently resulted. Shakespeare s Titus
Andronicus and King Lear are indeed tales that show the follies of such single parent families and
more precisely those families that lack a mothering figure. It is this lack of the female in the ... Show

This is the first example of how Titus love of o Rome and his position as a parent blur together
horribly.
It is this over dedication to Rome and his lacking of the lacking of the feminine, which also causes
Titus to turn a cold heart to Tamora s pleas. Victorious Titus, rue the tears I shed, a mother s tears in
passion for her son; and if thy sons were ever dearer to thee O, think my son to be as dear to me!
(Shakespeare, I.i, 106 108) However, Titus devotion to Roman customs and inability to identify with a

him no sympathy for this upset mother and as result will suffer later in the play.
Titus failings as a parent and extreme devotion to Rome become most apparent when, In a bad quarrel,

daughter, to become the wife of Rome s new emperor, Saturninus. Even in this decision he does not
consult with his daughter to see if it is her desire to become Rome s royal mistress. (Shakespeare, I.i,

Rome s army. Traub argues that those character s left outside of the world of marriage tend to be

Essay On St. Louis Home
I have been exposed to the Holocaust from grade school, through my own personal interest in school.
For the most part, this was through books historical fiction, and survivor accounts. My most recent
expose was this past summer as an intern with the St. Louis Holocaust Museum and Learning Center.
This experience brought me working closely with artifacts from survivors who call St. Louis home. I
worked with the artifacts to create condition reports. What was important to me about the museum
was that it main parts were about 1933 1945, but it talked about the pre war and post war life for Jews.

In stability, leads can lead to conflict, but nationalism has a similar effect in a stressful situation like
the 1930 s in Germany. Nationalism important to the formation of Germany. However, it can have
some serious conquests because of the emphasis on a shared culture, history, and language. This by
nature makes nationalism exclusive; it forces states to create who are its people. Hitler uses
nationalism to his advantage to sow doubt to his supports that Jews were not German. Nationalism
allowed for non Jewish Germans to understand that Jewish were not like them. For the fact that Jewish
had a shared history, culture, and langue that is different from other Germans. The creation of shared
identities allows for those who appear to not have these qualifications to be discriminated against.
When a nation holds tightly to nationalistic standards it leads down a path towards a genocide. Hitler
speeches and writing are based on who is German. Studying the Holocaust shows that nations must
take a more multicultural perspective and legal basis for defining citizens. A policy based on emotion
does not create the best policy for a state. This goes back to physiologically how people think about
others, and in moving towards both extremes of the political spectrum there is black and white
thinking. Nationalism allows for not critical

Jurassic Park Genetic Modification
Genetic modification is studied in order to gain a better understanding of humans and the pursuit of
knowledge. This is done in hope to make connections between genetics and everyday life. Movies
represent this concept in differing ways and with varying levels of truth, as can be seen in the coming
paper. The films Jurassic Park and Gattaca both have their own takes on what genetic modification
looks like, so their basis of genetic modification will be put under scrutiny and compared with the
reality of today and the future.
In the movie Jurassic Park, several assumptions are made about genetic modification, some of which
are close to reality and others that are far away from it. The premise of the movie is that dinosaurs

Much as Jurassic Park is based in soft sci fi, so is Gattaca. Gattaca has a strong focus on the negative
aspects of genetic modification. The story makes some serious assumptions about the impact of these
changes, but first it should be looked at just how practical this is to society. The portrait of genetics in
the movie is significantly more advanced than what is available today. Since the movie was released,
the human genome has been mapped out, but there is a large gap between having the standard genetics
of a human and being able to change a baby s purity almost instantaneously.
The ability to splice genes successfully also have some serious shortcomings currently. In 2015,
Group SEA became the first group to genetically modify human embryos. They attempted to edit the
genetics of the embryos in order to cure their disease, a fatal blood disorder. In their experiments, only
71 of the 89 embryos survived and only 28 successfully accepted the genetics, with not all of them
being accepted in the correct places (ResearchSEA). This shows just how far off humanity is from
having the power to edit human genetics to the point shown in the film. This research was done on
non viable embryos, as to not create an ethical

The Creative Curriculum Program Is An Effective Learning...
The Creative Curriculum program is an effective learning style that assists preschool children ranging
from ages 3 to 5 years old. Founded by a former preschool teacher, Diane Trister Dodge, this early
childhood education program with a comprehensive curriculum is structured to be directed by the
teacher, but initiated by the children. The philosophy of the Creative Curriculum is to allow the
children to learn at their best efforts in an environment that is safe and open for exploration. Child
centers that use this curriculum allow the children to develop and learn through planned programming,
select materials, and guided learning. The goal is to enhance their physical, cognitive, language,
social, and emotional development through hands on learning activities. The sole principle of the
curriculum program is to identify the learning styles of the children, and strengthen them through
learning activities that spark their interests. This is to help the children become enthusiastic learners.
The content areas covered within the Creative Curriculum are: literacy, math, science, social studies,
the arts, and technology. Educators of the curriculum are well qualified and are trained to possess the
ability to provide positive classroom management, build analytical skills and relationship skills. The
role of the teacher is to guide the learning process. With a student to teacher ratio of 7:1,the teachers
are there to observe and evaluate the progress of the children. The

Martin Luther King Jr Essay
Why was Martin Luther King Jr. such an inspiration to African Americans in America? Martin Luther
King Jr. was an American minister, Civil Rights leader, and activist who had a strong belief in
nonviolent protests (history.com; Martin Luther King Jr.). He was the leader behind the Montgomery
Bus Boycott and the March on Washington which were eventually effective and a law was passed to
end racial discrimination (history.com; Martin Luther King Jr.). On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks
was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on the bus. This caused activists to
organize a bus boycott that would last 381 days, and they chose Martin Luther King to be their leader.

The Mabinogi Tale
The Mabinogion is one of the earliest written accounts of Arthuriana. The Mabinogi stories are old
Welsh prose, and they vary in number between eleven and twelve tales. They were first translated to
English down in 1838 by Lady Charlotte Guest, although the earliest written forms date to around the
14th century. It is uncertain the exact age of the Mabinogi tales due to their oral nature, and it is
believed that the stories are older. The Mabinogion provides some of the best insights in to the
beginning of Arthurian characters. The text of the Mabinogion is disjointed, as it was not written down

The Japanese Bronze Mirrors And Its Impact On Japanese...
Japanese art has had a huge impact on the Japanese culture. It was created in various forms. New
styles and techniques were created like sculptures, paintings and pottery. Mirrors have played a big
role in their culture and was incorporated in people s everyday routine. It has significance in their lives
and symbolizes several things for them, especially the Japanese Bronze Mirror. The mirror symbolizes
the value of the Japanese culture and itself is a beautiful image to look at. In this culture, their beliefs
and values teaches important things to us and shows how their tradition is something more than art.
The Japanese Bronze Mirror was created in the 12th century during the Heian period and it was found
in something called the mirror pool at the shrine of Mount Haguro. At Mount Haguro, there were
hundreds of other mirrors and leaving mirrors at that location, was considered as a contribution.
Offerings in Japan are traditions that the people take seriously and see the importance of it. The mirror
is decorated with two dancing cranes on one side, which is a symbolism for a long life and marital
fidelity. The other side was not decorated and it was a reflective surface which would also be known
as a mirror. Mirrors first came from China and China had a significant impact on Japan for a long
time. The mirrors were connected with a sun goddess Amaterasu, ancestress of the Japanese emperors,
because of their ability to reflect light (Joy). This is another reason why

Recycling Of Bees Persuasive Essay
There have been crestfallen decreases in the population of bees because of pests and of our pesticides.
While you may hate bees because of their stingers, they are an enormous part of the pollination
process. To be sure, one of the crops that depend on their pollination the most are the almond crops,
these crops would go extinct without bees. Without bees, a lot of our prices would sky rocket. They
help grow a lot of our food but all they get in response are the disastrous effects of our pesticides. In
the interim, the sharp increase of bee fatal pesticides isn t getting any better. At the same time, the bees
are subjects to the deadly varroa mites and colony collapse disorder. Simultaneously, bees are a huge
help agriculture, without them we would be in a huge predicament. There would be as many of diverse
crops because when bees pollinate , they cross breed plants at the same time. Then we would have to
pollinate most of the crops. In effect, I believe that we should care about bees more. Like Albert
Einstein said, If the bee disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to

My Concept Of Accounting Profession
Prior to the trip to DC, I believed that a picture is worth a thousand words and thus expected that our
on site observation of the government s operation and the direct interaction with the field experts,
influencers, and government officials would broaden my view towards the tax accounting profession.
Gratefully, as a result of the trip, my concept of accounting profession was revolutionized from one
that is simply adopting regulations to one that is proactively making a positive impact on all levels and
through various venues of the regulatory system. This one week symposium was such an eye opening
experience for me in gaining insight into the U.S. political system, economic reality, the relationship
of businesses and public policy, and the leading issues in this emerging economy. Started with a strong
ground breaking, professor Jeffrey Weinberg taught us the fundamentals of U.S. legislative parties,
policy making process, and the uniqueness of our current political system in which President Obama
is a Democrat and the majority of the House and the Senate is Republican. The philosophical
difference between the two parties is that Democrats prefer a high level of taxing to fund welfare
programs, whereas Republicans emphasize low tax rates for the fairness of the society. The Honorable
Mickey Edwards, the former House of Representative, expressed that compromising is the art of
closing the gap between the two political parties for the betterment of the society. Finding

Life Is Fine By Langston Hughes
I think the poem Life is Fine is a lyric poem. The poem Life is Fine is about someone who went down
to a river to think. But he can t think so he jumps in the river. And he starts to sink. Then he takes the
elevator up 16 floors and thinks about his baby. So he thinks about jumping. But he will be dogged if
they see him if they see him die. So in this poem I think he is telling us that everybody has problems
including Hughes. But in this poem he shows us that we should still push through and get through it.
In this poem Langston Hughes uses symbolism and imagery. Langston Hughes uses symbolism in this
quote I went down to the river, I set down on the bank. I tried to think but couldn t, So I jumped in and
sank. . I feel that he might be saying that the river is life. And he might feel that he Langston Hughes
is sinking in life. By putting symbolism in his poem it disguises what he really means or says what he
feels like it looks like. I think Langston Hughes uses imagery in the quote But it was...cold in that
water! It was cold! . I feel lik he uses imagery in that quote because he puts the image in our minds of
cold water or someone touching the water and the water is cold. By him using imagery it makes us ...

Symbolism In La Inferno
For centuries writers have used symbolism in literature to garner the attention of readers. One of the
finest examples of this is La Comedia or The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Critics, in particular,
recognize the first canticle of the comedy, The Inferno, as an unequivocal masterpiece of visual and
allegorical imagery. Dante very skillfully weaves figurative language with tangible physical
descriptions to achieve an unparalleled poetic work that continues to have immeasurable influence on
western literature to this day. Every aspect of The Inferno is gravid with endless symbolism
specifically referencing mankind s sins and the subsequent retributions dealt to those who commit
them by a wrathful God. This accords Dante s poetic work with its iconic complexity and attaches
deeper meaning to his adventurous journey through hell.
The Divine Comedy in its entirety is nothing but a parable into the spiritual journey of human life. In
Canto 1, Dante, the protagonist, in the middle years of his life, tries to navigate his way out of a dark
and scary forest in search of light. Dante uses the dark forest as a metaphor for sin, and the light he
seeks as God in heaven. As he attempts to get through the forest he is confronted by three beasts. He
describes the encounters as I faced a spotted Leopard,...../And it would not pass... (1:33 34), ... great
Lion that broke upon me/ raging with hunger... (1:44 45), and ... a She Wolf drove upon me, ...starved
horror/ ravening and wasted. (1:48 49). These three beasts the Leopard, the Lion, and the She Wolf, by
virtue of their salient characteristics, symbolize the three different categories of sins malice and fraud,
violence and pride, and greed and lust, respectively. The leopard, with its spotted pelt, is considered a
master of disguise, biding its time to strike down prey at the most optimal moment; akin to a malicious
person who often presents himself respectably and hides his true motives. The lion is known to satisfy
his individual needs through violence and aggression and is thus able to establish himself as the top
predator in the food chain. Similarly, humans are known to resort to violent means to fulfill their needs
and ambitions. The she wolf, the last

economy to affect Nederlander s ticket sales? Why or why not?
2.Now a days, concerts of famous artists are usually held in big stadiums and theaters, which brings a
huge crowd of fans for affordable ticket prices and the same time, satisfies the high demanded
payment for the top artists and earns a profit for the organizers of the shows. However, there are
concert management companies, like Nederlander, that manages to charge higher ticket prices for
small theater performances and to deliver a sellout crowd night after night (Video Case: Nederlander,
p.1). Why is Nederlander able to do that when audiences could pay less at stadium concerts?
Operating in a free market system makes Nederlander work hard and find their way to succeed. Their
tactic is to match the right band with the right target audience (Video Case: Nederlander, p.1).
Believing that each artist or band has their unique audience, the marketing department of Nederlander
is publicizing the shows by executive targeting a definite customer sector. Another important factor of
the success of Nederlander is that they have learned to make money based on precise economic
calculation (Video Case: Nederlander, p.1). By matching the high demand for top artists with the low
supply of tickets for Nederlander small venues, they find out the equilibrium price, the price where the
quantity demanded equals the quantity supplied. Knowing the equilibrium price and taking into
consideration the price

Glass Menagerie And Hamlet
The strongest issue that plagues the lives and consciences of people from any walk of life is issue of
what is more important: duty to family or duty to one s self. This conflict is present in three plays: The
Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen, and Hamlet by William
Shakespeare. The Glass Menagerie is a play that discusses the struggles of a family dynamic and the
decision to leave, or stay and build the family. In A Doll House, this drama is set up to discuss the role
of females in families and their reactions. Additionally, the conflict in Hamlet is the choice of who

Likewise, the struggle of the main characters to choose whether they would abandon the family unit or
stay with it. This struggle is present in all the plays, as the characters need to make a choice of which
would be easier to live with. These plays have the characters discover their own values as they go on
their internal conflict to help their family or themselves. Moreover, the major discrepancy that occurs
in making this decision is the difference in both of these choices. Hamlet was a strong example of this
conflict as Hamlet struggled to see the line between which actions were unforgivable for family
members. Nora had to learn the difference in her life as she could not see whether she was helping her
family or doing a disservice to herself in A Doll House. Additionally, Tom knew, in The Glass
Menagerie, that he needed to decide whether he was going to leave his sister because he could not
support her. All of these examples drive this theory that the duty to one s self is more powerful than
helping one s family. These conflicts all caused moral dilemmas for the characters as this decision did
not come easy. The duty to one s self, however, won out because this cause was more valuable and
promising for the characters. These issues drove the plays as they forced the characters to choose what

Prisoners of War (POWs): In international law, term used to designate incarcerated members of the
armed forces of an enemy, or noncombatants who render them direct service and who have been
captured during wartime.1
This definition is a very loose interpretation of the meaning of Prisoners of War (POWs). POWs
throughout history have received harsh and brutal treatment. Prisoners received everything from
torture to execution. However, in recent times efforts have been made to reduce these treatments and
to get humane treatment for POWs. These attempts include the Geneva Convention of 1949.

Not a specific torture, but a very painful experience that POWs had to deal with everyday, was hunger.
Malnutrition, and hunger became a POW s worst enemy, and led to many of the 114 deaths among the

Another excruciating obstacle that prisoners sometimes faced was torture. Torture was against the
Geneva Accords, but then again, so were many other acts that the NVA and Vietcong (VC) committed
against American POWs. Torture sometimes only consisted of a few blows with a bamboo stick, to an
all out beating until the prisoner was unconscious, to sometimes even worse acts of violence.
They grabbed him off the stool, backward, out the doorway of the bamboo house, across a muddy

The Proxy War And The Korean War
Proxy Wars.
In the 1947 the Cold war began with two superpowers, the United States and the USSR interested in
Eastern Europe. Different Ideologies Communism and Capitalism became the issues in different
countries. They fought over which countries would go to communism or capitalism. These countries
included Greece and Turkey, the Suez crisis, The Vietnam war and one of the biggest proxy wars that
still have tension today, the Korean War. The Korean war between communist north Korea and their
allies were the USSR and China while South Korea was an ally of the United States. The war started
in June of 1950 through July 1953, even though it lasted 3 years it became one of the deadliest wars in
modern history, US believed that if the USSR were to take Korea that ¾ of the world would become
communism and so through the US containment policy, they became involved so communism would

The reason the United states decided to take action was because a non communist country was getting
attacked by a communist country and their duty was to interfere and stop the attack. The soviets also
wanted to intervene in countries like Greece and Turkey. This brought up the Marshall plan. The
Marshall plan was a European Recovery Program that gave assistance to European countries to help

story of The Lorax as an allegory of economic principles you must understand in terms of different
philosophy foundations, scarcity, uncertainty, interdependencies, and the duel nature of rights.
Philosophy foundations are all based on making a choice in any given situation. In the story The
Lorax by Dr. Seuss the two main characters, the Once ler and the ... Show more content on

In the story the Once ler, the Lorax, the Brown Bar ba loots, the Swomee Swans, and the Humming
Fish are all put in a situation known as Pareto Optimality. This exists when economic resources and
output have been allocated in such a way that no one can be made better off without sacrificing the
well being of at least one person (Wisdom, V Pareto). In a situation like this it is hard for the
perspectives, like that of the Once ler and the Lorax, to have a positive outcome. If their perspectives
had been different, say like the golden rule or do no harm perspectives, things have a much better
potential to come out more ideal for everyone. As discussed in class, both of these philosophical
perspectives believe in withholding harm to one s self and to others. If these were the perspectives
taken by the Once ler and the Lorax, both would be happy, in addition to the Brown Bar ba loots, the
Swomee Swans, and the Humming Fish, but given the Pareto Optimality environment it is almost
impossible to make everyone involved happy, instead there needs to be a more costs benefits
perspective taken where things are weighed out and people pick as a whole what the best usage of
resources should be to maximize the outcome for everyone.
The basic economic problem that arises because people have unlimited wants but resources are limited

Essay On Donovan Wester s Journey Through His Genetic...
Donovan Wester s Journey Through His Genetic Ancestry The travelogue Meeting the Family, by
Donovan Webster, is a National Geographic book about Webster s journey through his genetic
ancestry. Through his travelogue, Webster was able to paint a vivid mental picture, of the natural, and
social environments of his ancestors; and how they have also been affected and influenced by modern
social forces. Through the National Geographic s Genographic Project, Webster was able to travel to
Tanzania, the Middle East, Uzbekistan, and Spain, where Webster learned all about the natives that
shared a special genetic marker with him. Webster takes us to his first stop in Tanzania s Great Rift
Valley, where he meets the Hadzabe clan. Webster describes the landscape [to be] something from an
Indiana Jones movie (Webster 27). He notices the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Hadzabe clan have a chief who is picked by the elder men and current leader. They vote for the
most qualified man to fill the chief position (Webster 62). The Hadzabe clan does not remain in one
spot forever. When the land is exhausted the elder men and the chief pick five boys that will go in
search for the next place to set up camp (Webster 76). Sometimes they return to a spot that they once
lived or they start from scratch somewhere else. The Hadzabe clan is a matrilocal society, which
means a male takes one wife and he moves in with the wife s family (Webster 62). A tradition that
Julius shows Webster toward the end of his stay is where the Hadzabe women give birth. Julius takes
him to a huge baobab tree where there is a cave in the trunk where child after child from his clan has
been born (Webster 78). These systems have worked for thousands of years for the Hadzabe tribe.
Webster concludes that his time with [the Hadzabe s] was among the most relaxing and pleasant

The Ethics And Legal Implications Of The Internal Revenue...
The complexity of the Internal Revenue Code has been the source of genuine concern, standup jokes,
and political theater for years, but its greatest effect on practitioners of tax is to create a myriad of
complicated gray areas and thorny questions that are not quickly resolved to a neat yes or no answer.
This ambiguity has resulted in a situation where the ethical and legal implications of tax practice are
serious considerations for any professional who is engaging in this line of work.
Since 1881, U.S.C. 31 has regulated who can represent other people to the Treasury Department,
which encompasses the IRS. This representation, called practice before the IRS, includes not just
representation in court, but also all forms of communication on behalf of the taxpayer, including
written documentation, phone calls, and interviews. From the beginning, the qualities required to
practice before the IRS were good character, good reputation, competence and qualifications ( Beyond
the Basics. ) Today, those practicing tax or intending to do so need to be aware of a long list of
standards and requirements in order to be compliant with both the IRS, as outlined in Circular 230,
and the standards of the profession as outlined by the AICPA in Statements of Standards for Tax
Services.
Circular 230 covers an extensive list of the requirements, laid out in multiple sections of the Internal
Revenue Code, of being in compliance as a tax preparer and representative before the IRS, from

Multinational Companies And Tax Avoidance
1. Introduction
With the development of modern society, multinational companies reach higher profits than before.
For instance, Starbucks got 495 million of sales revenue while it only paid 6 million of tax to the
government. It turns into the topic of tax avoidance. Actually, there are many multinational companies
use the strategy of tax avoidance, and Starbucks is just one of the examples.
1.1 Multinational Companies and Tax Avoidance
First of all, the definition of multinational companies and tax avoidance should be learnt.
Multinational companies are those companies have international branches, shops or manufacture
factories in both local and foreign countries. And the tax avoidance is a company which uses legal
methods to escape paying the tax for its own profits. Obviously, the multinational companies such as
Starbucks use this strategy is to enlarge the profit.
Although these companies claimed that they had taken high level social responsibility of business,
they have kept using tax avoidance which should be included in the social responsibility. However, it
has been largely silent on the issue of the payment of corporate tax. It is serious that such fundamental
tax payments present a company s citizenship behavior.
However, because there are legal ways to avoid payment of corporate tax, which is a representative of
a boundary condition for corporate social responsibility. Despite the fact that the law and CSR always
provide the suggestion on paying the tax,

The Causes Of Lysosomal Diseases
More dysregulated metabolites were identified in the liver (n=177) than that in the brain (n=122).
Notably, there are more amino acid, amino acid derivatives and dipeptides identified in livers (mostly
upregulated). These results are expected because the liver is the primary site of metabolism. In terms
of pathways enriched, significant involvement of neurotransmission and chemical synaptic
transmission were observed in the brain. Meanwhile, there are several pathways only enriched in
livers, including gamma glutamyl cycle, leukotriene biosynthesis, Phase II conjugation and
glutathione synthesis, which are mainly associated with oxidative stress and inflammation. The energy
imbalance in SD leads to increased respiratory chain activity in ... Show more content on

The oxidative stress can cause cell damage, resulting in inflammation, which has also been found to
be a major contributor to disease progression of GM2 gangliosidosis [17]. In this study, we identified
elevation in glutathione pathways, which plays a pivotal role in responses to oxidative stress. Another
evidence of inflammation is reduced levels of arachidonic acid, an omega 6 fatty acid, in brain
samples of SD mice. Oxidation of arachidonic acid can generate leukotrienes, a family of eicosanoid
inflammatory mediators produced in leukocytes, and thus promote inflammation. The increased
energy requirements can also activate autophagy and protein catabolism, which have been found in
MPS I and MPS VII mice [13]. In this study, we found increased levels of amino acids, amino acid
derivatives and dipeptides, indicating increased protein catabolism. Increased requirements of energy
and raw materials can also activate lipid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism, manifested by
decreased adiposity, a common observation in many lysosomal diseases [18 20]. In addition, the
enlarged lysosome and distended cells due to abnormal accumulation requires increased membrane
synthesis, which can also affect lipid metabolism. Our previous proteomic analysis [21] also identified
abnormality in the cytoskeleton system, which can be partially attributed to altered cellular
architecture due to storage accumulation. Collectively, we show here that the energy imbalance caused
by the lack of

Disaster Recovery Plan And Related Contingency...
Introduction
This document includes the disaster recovery plan and related contingency requirements for Jeeb s
Band and Trust. It consists of detailed written practices and procedures to mitigate interruptions to
critical information systems and the loss of data and services from the effects of natural or man made
disasters. The DRP applies both major, usually catastrophic, events that deny access to the normal
facility for an extended period, and to less catastrophic events that may deny access to only portions of
the facility or certain systems. The DRP is an IT focused plan and therefore may also be referenced as
a Technology Recovery Plan which has been designed to restore operability of the designated systems
and applications in Jeeb s Bank and Trust s data center facility at an alternate site (or within the
existing facility if not a total loss) after an emergency.
This DRP was developed by Jeeb s Bank and Trust Information Technology group.
Purpose
The purpose of this DRP defines the requirement for a baseline disaster recovery plan to be developed
and implemented by Jeeb s Bank and Trust that will describe the process to recover IT systems,
Applications and Data from any type of disaster that causes a major outage.
Note that in the event of a disaster the first priority of Jeeb s Bank and Trust is to prevent loss of life.
Before any secondary measures can be taken. Jeeb s Bank and Trust will make sure that all employees,

Sociological Research On Social And Class Differences
Various statistical techniques are used in sociological research in order to study the social world.
These may include measures to describe data dispersion, as well as analytical methods such as latent
class analysis. Each technique can provide distinct approaches to answering a research question, as
they may emphasize specific factors or lead to different ways to structure results. Consequently, it
becomes particularly important to consider one s choice of measures and methods, as depending on
the ones used, both the conclusion itself and interpretations of it may be affected, along with wider
understandings of social reality. To begin, quantitative social research will often employ statistical
measures to determine the central tendency of a given dataset. These measures, including mean,
median, and mode, are used to calculate typical values of the center of a probability distribution. Since
they are focused on average values, measures of central tendency are useful tools in understanding the
typical situations or experiences of social groups. This makes them especially helpful in understanding
social inequality and class differences because they facilitate comparison of data for multiple groups.
For instance, to determine levels of economic inequality in relation to gender, one could calculate the
mean incomes of males and females in a given city and compare them. However, it is crucial to
consider the effects of these different measures of central tendency, as the

Elements Of Visual Design In Star Wars
May Visual Design be with you
The visual design in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope transformed the film industry, setting new
standards for years to come. Through animation, detailed models, sets and computer controlled motion
photography, George Lucas created a futuristic sci fi that was realistic and gripping. In Star Wars: A
New Hope, one scene stands out from all others: the Binary Sunset scene. One of the most iconic
moments from all of Star Wars, the scene uses elements of visual design that display the forces of
good and evil, destiny, and most importantly, the recurring theme of hope.
In the scene, Luke Skywalker is presented wearing a flowy white tunic, khaki pants, and wrapped, soft
soled boots. Ostensibly these are the clothes of a farm boy living on the planet Tatooine which were
inspired by the rice farming boys in Japanese paddy fields, in conjunction with the desert climate of
Lucas s fictional planet. The clothing design contributes to the ambiance of the dry atmosphere of
Tatooine: the faded light color scheme complements the heat and sandy expanses. Furthermore, Luke
s hairstyle also presents his character as young and boyish diving further into the delineation of his
character. In later films, his costume thickens and darkens representing his maturation and character
development. His white tunic not only resembles his boyish innocence but also the force and the
power of good, a key theme Lucas borrowed from the serial westerns of the 1940s and

  • 2. Free Cash Flow Free cash flow In corporate finance, free cash flow (FCF) is cash flow available for distribution among all the securities holders of an organization. They include equity holders, debt holders, preferred stock holders, convertible security holders, and so on. G. Bennett Stewart the economic model of value holds that share prices are determined by just two things: the cash to be generated over the lifetime of a business and the risk of the cash receipts . GSB (1990), The Quest for Value FCF is the cashflow generated by a company s operations that is free, or net, of the new capital invested for growth. You use this tool everyday and you don t even know it. Those little times when you feel like quitting but know it s worth it or even flexibility can mess you up a bit, resilience comes in handy there too. There are many times in school where I have wanted to give up, this could be in school, during a game or match but that doesn t mean I gave up. I used resilience without even knowing that this word existed! In my charter school we play a lot of four square, I really sucked at the game when we first started but after a while, even when I really hated the game, I knew I wanted to be the best so I kept playing and now ... The last is anticipating and responding to mission, things like critical events proactively addressing strategic challenges, instead of reacting after the fact. These challenges have a tremendous impact on an organization s overall performance. Thus, Deloitte came up with the idea of partnership which focuses on strategic people issues, not just administration and operating efficiency and deals the problem of keeping a sustainable advantage in the marketplace. To achieve the goal of building partnership, this requires HR greatly upgrade its talent and capabilities. However, at first they were weak in HR innovations. It is expensive, difficult to achieve, and hard to sustain a good human resource strategy. To close the gap in innovations, Deloitte had to either build or buy for HR. They finally chose to do both. They first increase its investment in business related training in order to help HR staff improve their business knowledge and experience. They also recruit leaders and staff with more aggressively, actively attitudes to fill the shortage of talents. Deloitte believes that before HR can help the broader organization address its strategic talent challenges, HR must first address its own talent challenges. As the employee gets promoted to Partner, he can share out 10% bonus from Deloitte each year. Deloitte uses this strategy to create a high performance culture and develop and attract ... Futurus = future) was a movement in literature, visual art, fashion, architecture, theatre, music and film in the early 20th century, launched by Italian poet Filippo Tommaso Marinetti. Futurism appeared as a fervent denouncer of the past. Italian art represented the past Ancient, Renaissance and Baroque art and culture. In the early 1900s, Italian artists and writers believed that the Machine Age could have changed the situation and develop into a new awareness. F. Marinetti called the new movement futurism to apprehend the idea of modernity, to glorify speed, technological society, industrialism, dynamism, violence and youth. This can be seen as other countries limiting the power of China, and growing together to do so. This is a highly realistic reason for cooperation, and it has some support as China is proposing its own trade agreement in the region. • 14. Summary Of The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir In The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir questions the idea held in society that those who live simpler lives with no foreseeable challenges are inherently content and satisfied in their lives. Specifically, she disagrees with the idea that women who are oppressed, and thus, due to their lack of opportunities and freedoms, must lead lives that the patriarchal society makes available to them, are happier than the women whose freedom brings them challenges and shortcomings. De Beauvoir claims that we cannot assume someone is happy from what we see, and we cannot simply assume happiness means to that person what it does to us; it is not too clear just what the word happy really mean and still less what true values it may mask. There is no possibility measuring the happiness of others, and it is always easy to describe as happy the situation in which one wishes to place them, (de Beauvoir 261). She continues to discuss this idea of seeing one as happy in the situation the observer views as ideal, specifically the non working woman stripped of her rights, whose lack of purpose and duties is seen as peaceful happiness, in particular those who are condemned to stagnation are often pronounced happy on the pretext that happiness consists in being at rest, (de Beauvoir 261). This is not to say a woman s happiness cannot be found being a housewife, but one cannot assume what will bring women joy and fulfillment, because all people are different with varying wants and needs. Women need all the opportunities available and full liberation in order to be able to find their happiness, if it can be found. Sara Ahmed says, Feminism does not guarantee what we will find through this expansion of bodily horizons. It simply opens up the places where we can look, (Ahmed 70). Ahmed goes on to explain how happiness may not even be a healthy goal, as often women are expected to give up much in order to be able to find a happiness that is likely unachievable. Ahmed also discusses the 2002 film The Hours, which tells the stories of three women living in different eras all struggling with their happiness in their vastly different lives. All three women experience other people in their lives telling them that they should be happy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That is the number of people exterminated by the Nazi regime of Adolph Hitler at Auschwitz Birkenau death camp between 1940 45. (Auschwitz Birkenau museum online) The raw number itself absolutely staggering, too large for any human being to wrap their minds around. It is a large enough number to inspire skepticism, disbelief, and outrage. To this day, decades after the fact, there are still those who deny that any of it ever happened because the numbers are just too big. It is better to think of this tragedy in more personal terms: as in 1.1 million families physically ripped apart, 1.1 million dreams snuffed out, and untold numbers of survivors left scared forever. Human faces need to be attached to the raw numbers, or else the numbers become a point of data, something which can be spun to serve up moral or political advantage in today s society. We must remember what happened in Auschwitz Birkenau, and the other Nazi concentration camps. All of humanity must remember or we are surely doomed to one day repeat this dark chapter in our history. • 16. Roxana By Daniel Defoa Analysis I thought a woman was a free agent, as well as a man, and was born free (Defoe, 2427). During the time of the Restoration, women were taught that their worth in society was solely based on their reputations. They were to remain virgins until they were married. When married, they were to be obedient to their husbands. Their sole responsibility was to their household. This caused many to feel a loss of identity. In Daniel Defoe s Roxana, Roxana refuses to accept the role given to her by society in a patriarchal age when a husband s role was to govern his family and household. This rejection allows Roxana to have power over the men in her life. Throughout the story of Roxana, the union of marriage is continuously coming into play. Roxana continues to avoid the act of marriage and the wifely role, which she habitually equates to servitude, slavery and imprisonment. She declares, a woman [gives] herself entirely away from herself, in marriage (2427). Roxana truly believes that a woman loses her identity in marriage. Regardless of her class in society, she is more equal to the servants than to her own husband. In hopes to suppress Roxana s beliefs, the merchant tries to show how bad man really has it in society. He alleges that man had all the care of things devolved upon him (2427). He believes that man didn t ask for their place in society either. In both Titus Andronicus and King Lear no one can deny that the characters in these plays do indeed suffer and at great lengths, but the question begs to be asked what is the source of this suffering? Keeping in mind that during the times in which William Shakespeare wrote death, adultery and fragrant sexuality where at an optimal level and as such single parent families frequently resulted. However, it can have some serious conquests because of the emphasis on a shared culture, history, and language. This by nature makes nationalism exclusive; it forces states to create who are its people. Hitler uses nationalism to his advantage to sow doubt to his supports that Jews were not German. Nationalism allowed for non Jewish Germans to understand that Jewish were not like them. For the fact that Jewish had a shared history, culture, and langue that is different from other Germans. The creation of shared identities allows for those who appear to not have these qualifications to be discriminated against. When a nation holds tightly to nationalistic standards it leads down a path towards a genocide. Hitler speeches and writing are based on who is German. Studying the Holocaust shows that nations must take a more multicultural perspective and legal basis for defining citizens. A policy based on emotion does not create the best policy for a state. The philosophical difference between the two parties is that Democrats prefer a high level of taxing to fund welfare programs, whereas Republicans emphasize low tax rates for the fairness of the society. • 32. Symbolism In La Inferno For centuries writers have used symbolism in literature to garner the attention of readers. One of the finest examples of this is La Comedia or The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Critics, in particular, recognize the first canticle of the comedy, The Inferno, as an unequivocal masterpiece of visual and allegorical imagery. Dante very skillfully weaves figurative language with tangible physical descriptions to achieve an unparalleled poetic work that continues to have immeasurable influence on western literature to this day. Every aspect of The Inferno is gravid with endless symbolism specifically referencing mankind s sins and the subsequent retributions dealt to those who commit them by a wrathful God. This accords Dante s poetic work with its iconic complexity and attaches deeper meaning to his adventurous journey through hell. The Divine Comedy in its entirety is nothing but a parable into the spiritual journey of human life. In Canto 1, Dante, the protagonist, in the middle years of his life, tries to navigate his way out of a dark and scary forest in search of light. Dante uses the dark forest as a metaphor for sin, and the light he seeks as God in heaven. As he attempts to get through the forest he is confronted by three beasts. He describes the encounters as I faced a spotted Leopard,...../And it would not pass... (1:33 34), ... great Lion that broke upon me/ raging with hunger... (1:44 45), and ... a She Wolf drove upon me, ...starved horror/ ravening and wasted. (1:48 49). These three beasts the Leopard, the Lion, and the She Wolf, by virtue of their salient characteristics, symbolize the three different categories of sins malice and fraud, violence and pride, and greed and lust, respectively. The leopard, with its spotted pelt, is considered a master of disguise, biding its time to strike down prey at the most optimal moment; akin to a malicious person who often presents himself respectably and hides his true motives. • 39. American Pirsoners Of War In Vietnam Essay Prisoners of War (POWs): In international law, term used to designate incarcerated members of the armed forces of an enemy, or noncombatants who render them direct service and who have been captured during wartime.1 This definition is a very loose interpretation of the meaning of Prisoners of War (POWs). POWs throughout history have received harsh and brutal treatment. Prisoners received everything from torture to execution. However, in recent times efforts have been made to reduce these treatments and to get humane treatment for POWs. These attempts include the Geneva Convention of 1949. Unfortunately, during the Vietnam Conflict, these rules of war were not always obeyed, as they are now. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not a specific torture, but a very painful experience that POWs had to deal with everyday, was hunger. Malnutrition, and hunger became a POW s worst enemy, and led to many of the 114 deaths among the prisoners. Another excruciating obstacle that prisoners sometimes faced was torture. Torture was against the Geneva Accords, but then again, so were many other acts that the NVA and Vietcong (VC) committed against American POWs. Torture sometimes only consisted of a few blows with a bamboo stick, to an all out beating until the prisoner was unconscious, to sometimes even worse acts of violence. They grabbed him off the stool, backward, out the doorway of the bamboo house, across a muddy yard to an even smaller outbuilding...Two more guards burst into the crowded little room and unleashed a cascade of kicks and clubbing, striking Gruters about the chest, belly, and arms.4 Guy Gruters, a United States Air Force F 4 pilot, was shot down over Vietnam on December 21, 1967, and when he would not answer his captors questions, was beaten severely. After this his interrogators gave him the rope torture . Behind him, three of the soldiers got to work with a length of rough hemp rope. They tied a series of shockingly tight hitches around his naked right bicep, then dragged the coiled line under his left armpit and yanked, hard. Gruters felt muddy, cleated boot soles on the back of his neck where the soldiers were getting leverage. What the hell are they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Proxy War And The Korean War Proxy Wars. In the 1947 the Cold war began with two superpowers, the United States and the USSR interested in Eastern Europe. Different Ideologies Communism and Capitalism became the issues in different countries. They fought over which countries would go to communism or capitalism. These countries included Greece and Turkey, the Suez crisis, The Vietnam war and one of the biggest proxy wars that still have tension today, the Korean War. The Korean war between communist north Korea and their allies were the USSR and China while South Korea was an ally of the United States. The war started in June of 1950 through July 1953, even though it lasted 3 years it became one of the deadliest wars in modern history, US believed that if the USSR were to take Korea that ¾ of the world would become communism and so through the US containment policy, they became involved so communism would not spread. The reason the United states decided to take action was because a non communist country was getting attacked by a communist country and their duty was to interfere and stop the attack. The soviets also wanted to intervene in countries like Greece and Turkey. This brought up the Marshall plan. The Marshall plan was a European Recovery Program that gave assistance to European countries to help them grow and prevent communism. The US also brought in the Truman Doctrine which was an American external dogma to counter the spread of USSR political ideas such as communism. Therefore, As Soviets ... His story exemplifies laissez faire economics and the potential of free market enterprise and what s truly possible if government stays out of markets with needless regulations. So what went wrong? In order to understand exactly the story of The Lorax as an allegory of economic principles you must understand in terms of different philosophy foundations, scarcity, uncertainty, interdependencies, and the duel nature of rights. Philosophy foundations are all based on making a choice in any given situation. In the story The Lorax by Dr. Seuss the two main characters, the Once ler and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the story the Once ler, the Lorax, the Brown Bar ba loots, the Swomee Swans, and the Humming Fish are all put in a situation known as Pareto Optimality. This exists when economic resources and output have been allocated in such a way that no one can be made better off without sacrificing the well being of at least one person (Wisdom, V Pareto). In a situation like this it is hard for the perspectives, like that of the Once ler and the Lorax, to have a positive outcome. If their perspectives had been different, say like the golden rule or do no harm perspectives, things have a much better potential to come out more ideal for everyone. As discussed in class, both of these philosophical perspectives believe in withholding harm to one s self and to others. If these were the perspectives taken by the Once ler and the Lorax, both would be happy, in addition to the Brown Bar ba loots, the Swomee Swans, and the Humming Fish, but given the Pareto Optimality environment it is almost impossible to make everyone involved happy, instead there needs to be a more costs benefits perspective taken where things are weighed out and people pick as a whole what the best usage of resources should be to maximize the outcome for everyone. Donovan Wester s Journey Through His Genetic Ancestry The travelogue Meeting the Family, by Donovan Webster, is a National Geographic book about Webster s journey through his genetic ancestry. Through his travelogue, Webster was able to paint a vivid mental picture, of the natural, and social environments of his ancestors; and how they have also been affected and influenced by modern social forces. Through the National Geographic s Genographic Project, Webster was able to travel to Tanzania, the Middle East, Uzbekistan, and Spain, where Webster learned all about the natives that shared a special genetic marker with him. Sometimes they return to a spot that they once lived or they start from scratch somewhere else. The Hadzabe clan is a matrilocal society, which means a male takes one wife and he moves in with the wife s family (Webster 62). A tradition that Julius shows Webster toward the end of his stay is where the Hadzabe women give birth. • 44. The Ethics And Legal Implications Of The Internal Revenue... The complexity of the Internal Revenue Code has been the source of genuine concern, standup jokes, and political theater for years, but its greatest effect on practitioners of tax is to create a myriad of complicated gray areas and thorny questions that are not quickly resolved to a neat yes or no answer. This ambiguity has resulted in a situation where the ethical and legal implications of tax practice are serious considerations for any professional who is engaging in this line of work. Since 1881, U.S.C. 31 has regulated who can represent other people to the Treasury Department, which encompasses the IRS. This representation, called practice before the IRS, includes not just representation in court, but also all forms of communication on behalf of the taxpayer, including written documentation, phone calls, and interviews. From the beginning, the qualities required to practice before the IRS were good character, good reputation, competence and qualifications ( Beyond the Basics. ) Today, those practicing tax or intending to do so need to be aware of a long list of standards and requirements in order to be compliant with both the IRS, as outlined in Circular 230, and the standards of the profession as outlined by the AICPA in Statements of Standards for Tax Services. Circular 230 covers an extensive list of the requirements, laid out in multiple sections of the Internal Revenue Code, of being in compliance as a tax preparer and representative before the IRS, from standard ... • 46. Multinational Companies And Tax Avoidance 1. Introduction With the development of modern society, multinational companies reach higher profits than before. For instance, Starbucks got 495 million of sales revenue while it only paid 6 million of tax to the government. It turns into the topic of tax avoidance. Actually, there are many multinational companies use the strategy of tax avoidance, and Starbucks is just one of the examples. 1.1 Multinational Companies and Tax Avoidance First of all, the definition of multinational companies and tax avoidance should be learnt. Multinational companies are those companies have international branches, shops or manufacture factories in both local and foreign countries. And the tax avoidance is a company which uses legal methods to escape paying the tax for its own profits. Obviously, the multinational companies such as Starbucks use this strategy is to enlarge the profit. Although these companies claimed that they had taken high level social responsibility of business, they have kept using tax avoidance which should be included in the social responsibility. However, it has been largely silent on the issue of the payment of corporate tax. It is serious that such fundamental tax payments present a company s citizenship behavior. However, because there are legal ways to avoid payment of corporate tax, which is a representative of a boundary condition for corporate social responsibility. Despite the fact that the law and CSR always provide the suggestion on paying the tax, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Causes Of Lysosomal Diseases More dysregulated metabolites were identified in the liver (n=177) than that in the brain (n=122). Notably, there are more amino acid, amino acid derivatives and dipeptides identified in livers (mostly upregulated). These results are expected because the liver is the primary site of metabolism. In terms of pathways enriched, significant involvement of neurotransmission and chemical synaptic transmission were observed in the brain. Meanwhile, there are several pathways only enriched in livers, including gamma glutamyl cycle, leukotriene biosynthesis, Phase II conjugation and glutathione synthesis, which are mainly associated with oxidative stress and inflammation. The energy imbalance in SD leads to increased respiratory chain activity in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The oxidative stress can cause cell damage, resulting in inflammation, which has also been found to be a major contributor to disease progression of GM2 gangliosidosis [17]. In this study, we identified elevation in glutathione pathways, which plays a pivotal role in responses to oxidative stress. Another evidence of inflammation is reduced levels of arachidonic acid, an omega 6 fatty acid, in brain samples of SD mice. Oxidation of arachidonic acid can generate leukotrienes, a family of eicosanoid inflammatory mediators produced in leukocytes, and thus promote inflammation. The increased energy requirements can also activate autophagy and protein catabolism, which have been found in MPS I and MPS VII mice [13]. In this study, we found increased levels of amino acids, amino acid derivatives and dipeptides, indicating increased protein catabolism. Increased requirements of energy and raw materials can also activate lipid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism, manifested by decreased adiposity, a common observation in many lysosomal diseases [18 20]. In addition, the enlarged lysosome and distended cells due to abnormal accumulation requires increased membrane synthesis, which can also affect lipid metabolism. Our previous proteomic analysis [21] also identified abnormality in the cytoskeleton system, which can be partially attributed to altered cellular architecture due to storage accumulation. Collectively, we show here that the energy imbalance caused by the lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It consists of detailed written practices and procedures to mitigate interruptions to critical information systems and the loss of data and services from the effects of natural or man made disasters. The DRP applies both major, usually catastrophic, events that deny access to the normal facility for an extended period, and to less catastrophic events that may deny access to only portions of the facility or certain systems. The DRP is an IT focused plan and therefore may also be referenced as a Technology Recovery Plan which has been designed to restore operability of the designated systems and applications in Jeeb s Bank and Trust s data center facility at an alternate site (or within the existing facility if not a total loss) after an emergency. This DRP was developed by Jeeb s Bank and Trust Information Technology group. Purpose The purpose of this DRP defines the requirement for a baseline disaster recovery plan to be developed and implemented by Jeeb s Bank and Trust that will describe the process to recover IT systems, Applications and Data from any type of disaster that causes a major outage. • 49. Sociological Research On Social And Class Differences Various statistical techniques are used in sociological research in order to study the social world. These may include measures to describe data dispersion, as well as analytical methods such as latent class analysis. Each technique can provide distinct approaches to answering a research question, as they may emphasize specific factors or lead to different ways to structure results. Consequently, it becomes particularly important to consider one s choice of measures and methods, as depending on the ones used, both the conclusion itself and interpretations of it may be affected, along with wider understandings of social reality. To begin, quantitative social research will often employ statistical measures to determine the central tendency of a given dataset. These measures, including mean, median, and mode, are used to calculate typical values of the center of a probability distribution. Since they are focused on average values, measures of central tendency are useful tools in understanding the typical situations or experiences of social groups. This makes them especially helpful in understanding social inequality and class differences because they facilitate comparison of data for multiple groups. For instance, to determine levels of economic inequality in relation to gender, one could calculate the mean incomes of males and females in a given city and compare them. However, it is crucial to consider the effects of these different measures of central tendency, as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Elements Of Visual Design In Star Wars May Visual Design be with you The visual design in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope transformed the film industry, setting new standards for years to come. Through animation, detailed models, sets and computer controlled motion photography, George Lucas created a futuristic sci fi that was realistic and gripping. In Star Wars: A New Hope, one scene stands out from all others: the Binary Sunset scene. One of the most iconic moments from all of Star Wars, the scene uses elements of visual design that display the forces of good and evil, destiny, and most importantly, the recurring theme of hope. In the scene, Luke Skywalker is presented wearing a flowy white tunic, khaki pants, and wrapped, soft soled boots. Ostensibly these are the clothes of a farm boy living on the planet Tatooine which were inspired by the rice farming boys in Japanese paddy fields, in conjunction with the desert climate of Lucas s fictional planet. The clothing design contributes to the ambiance of the dry atmosphere of Tatooine: the faded light color scheme complements the heat and sandy expanses. Furthermore, Luke s hairstyle also presents his character as young and boyish diving further into the delineation of his character. In later films, his costume thickens and darkens representing his maturation and character development. His white tunic not only resembles his boyish innocence but also the force and the power of good, a key theme Lucas borrowed from the serial westerns of the 1940s and ...
