Others can’t figure out why things aren't working after multiple attempts. It’s easy to blame the people, the process, and the culture. And it’s especially easy to blame management. However, the underlying problem is that most large organizations weren’t built to be agile. You need a way to safely and pragmatically refactor your company into an organization that can adopt agile and sustain the transformation. What do you feel when you hear the B-word?
The term „brand” often translates to us designers as “annoying regulations from the marketing department” or “some generic Powerpoint voodoo before we get to the real thing”.
But most of all, as Marty Neumeier put it, a brand is „a person‘s gut feeling about a product, a service, or an organization“. A gut feeling that will affect this person’s decisions and actions. That’s why organizations care about their brand and try to influence how people feel about them.
Now trying to influence people’s gut feelings about a product or service is something we’re quite familiar with – we call it “Experience Design”. That’s why we shouldn’t leave the task of caring about the brand to marketers alone and just grudgingly follow their style guides. The interactive products and services we design will influence our user’s brand perception more profoundly than award-winning campaigns or fancy image videos can.
So if brands are such a big deal and we’re all at least co-shapers of brand perceptions – deliberately or not -, why does the B-word almost never appear in our UX discussions and frameworks? In this talk, I’d like to share my ideas on how we can leverage the brand perspective to make sound design decisions and create better experiences.
An introduction for game developers in traditional game companies to the product mindset I believe is needed to succeed more (or, at least, fail less) when making Games As A Service.
Cisco has created a powerful and compelling Human-Centered Design process with dozens of useful frameworks (like Empathy Map, Rose-Bud-Thorn, Difficulty-Importance and so forth).
The challenge was that Cisco needed these frameworks to scale so that globally distributed teams could use common frameworks at scale. Cisco partnered with Conteneo for the solution - described in this deck.

Here is a copy of the highly interactive keynote I gave at the IIBA Columbus meeting. The keynote was VERY light on slides and VERY HEAVY on collaborative gaming. We played a number of games to illustrate how amazing products and services are created through games like Cover Story, Product Box, Spider Web and Buy A Feature.
In 2010 the Scrum Alliance hired Conteneo (then called "The Innovation Games Company") to produce a series of online games using the Conteneo Ideas to Action framework. We engaged 35 CSTs through Prune the Product Tree. After analyzing the results we identified 14 projects and then used Buy a Feature to engage a larger community in prioritizing these projects. The Scrum Alliance successfully implemented many of these projects, demonstrating that the Scrum Alliance is truly acting in a manner congruent with core Agile values.

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.
We describe the deployment and use of Globus Compute for remote computation. This content is aimed at researchers who wish to compute on remote resources using a unified programming interface, as well as system administrators who will deploy and operate Globus Compute services on their research computing infrastructure.

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?
