This document presents an improved controller for the dual topology unified power quality conditioner (iUPQC) that extends its applicability for power quality compensation and microgrid applications. The iUPQC can provide reactive power support to regulate the voltage at both the load bus and grid-side bus, acting as a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) on the grid side while also providing typical UPQC functions like mitigating voltage sags/swells at the load side. Simulation results are provided to validate the new functionality of the device.

Power factor improvement is the essence of any power sector for realible operations. This report provides literature study of a fixed capacitor thyristor controlled reactor type of power factor compensator by matlab simulation and implementation in programmed microcontroller. To retaining power factor closed to unity under various load condition the arduino ATmega8 microcontroller is used which is programmed by keil software. The simulation is done using proteus software which display power factor according to the variation in load whenever a capacitive load is connected to the transmission line, a shunt reactor is connected which injects lagging reactive VARs to the power system. This report also includes the matlab simulation for three phase power factor improvement by using fixed capacitor thyristor controlled reactor. As a
result the power factor is improved. The results given in this report provides
suitable matlab simulation and proteus simulation based reactor power compensation and power factor improvement and techniques using a FCTCR.

The superiority of the proposed control strategy over conventional approaches in the new condition of supplying the load is demonstrated. The theoretical aspects of the proposed multivariable-based power control strategy and the conventional approaches are reviewed and simulation results are presented in two separate sections. MATLAB/Simulink 2009a is used to simulate different scenarios of the simulation.

Influence of Static VAR Compensator for Undervoltage Load Shedding to Avoid V...IJAPEJOURNAL
In the recent years, operation of power systems at lower stability margins has increased the importance of system protection methods that protect the system stability against various disturbances. Among these methods, the load shedding serves as an effective and last-resort tool to prevent system frequency/voltage instability. The analysis of recent blackouts suggests that voltage collapse and voltage-related problems are also important concerns in maintaining system stability. For this reason, voltage also needs to be taken into account in load shedding schemes. This paper considers both parameters in designing a load shedding scheme to determine the amount of load to be shed and its appropriate location .The amount of load to be shed from each bus is decided using the fixed step size method and it’s location has been identified by using voltage collapse proximity index method. SVC is shunt connected FACTS device used to improve the voltage profile of the system. In this paper impact of SVC on load shedding for IEEE 14 bus system has been presented and analyzed.

SRF THEORY BASED STATCOM FOR COMPENSATION OF REACTIVE POWER AND HARMONICSIAEME Publication
The power electronic devices like converters and inverters inject harmonic currents into AC
system due to their non linear characteristics. These devices draw high amount of reactive power
from source. The commencement of Nonlinear Load into the ac power system will have the effect of
harmonics. The presence of harmonics in system it will effected with power quality problems. Due
to this high amount of power losses and disoperation of power electronics devices is caused, along
with this Harmonics have a number of undesirable effects like Voltage disturbances. These
harmonics are needed to mitigate for Power Quality Enhancement in distributed system. Here the
device called STATCOM is one of the FACTS Devices which can be used to mitigate the harmonics
and reactive power compensation. The voltage source converter is core of the STATCOM and the
hysteresis current control is indirect method of controlling of VSC. In this paper we implement with
SRF based STATCOM control. SRF theory is implemented for the generation of controlling
reference current signals for controller of STATCOM. The Matlab\Simulink based model is
developed and simulation results are showed for linear and nonlinear load conditions.
Power Quality Improvement in Power System using UPFCijtsrd
Occurrence of a fault in a power system causes transients. To stabilize the system, Power System Stabilizer (PSS) and Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) are used. Load flow analysis is done to analyze the transients introduced in the system due to the occurrence of faults. The Flexible Alternating Current Transmission (FACTS) devices such as UPFC are becoming important in suppressing power system oscillations and improving system damping. The UPFC is a solid-state device, which can be used to control the active and reactive power. This paper considers a power system as a case study for investigating the performance of UPFC is achieving stability. By using a UPFC the oscillation introduced by the faults, the voltage deviations and speed deviations can be damped out quickly than a system without a UPFC. The effectiveness of UPFC in suppressing power system oscillation is investigated by analyzing their voltage deviations and reactive power support in this paper. A proportional integral (PI) controller has been employed for the UPFC. It is also shown that a UPFC can control independently the real and reactive power flow in a transmission line. Application of Unified Power Flow Controller in Nigeria Power System for Impr...ijtsrd
With the increased rate of urbanization and industrialization, the Nigerian electric power system is being put under pressure, high power losses which has led to fluctuation in voltage level. In this work the Nigeria 330Kv network of 42 bus system was considered. Data for the analysis were obtained from Transmission Company of Nigeria National Control Centre, Osogbo TCN and MATLAB PSAT software with newton Raphson's solution method embedded in it was used to carry out the analysis. The results of the analysis showed that many of the bus voltages were outside the voltage limits of ±5 i.e 0.95pu 1.05pu . After compensation with Flexible AC Transmission System devices FACTs namely Unified Power Flow Controller UPFC which can be used to control power flow on a transmission line, the voltage profile almost flat with bus voltages within acceptable voltage limits. that require ideal sinusoidal supply voltages for their proper
operation has increased. In order to keep power quality under
limits proposed by standards, it is necessary to include some
sort of compensation. The aim of this paper is to present a
unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) with minimization
of DC Link voltage for the improvement of power quality by
Fuzzy logic controller as compared with PI controller. By the
proposed system is comprised of series and shunt Inverters
which can compensate the sag, swell, unbalance voltage,
Harmonics and reactive power. PI and fuzzy logic controllers
are used to stabilize DC link voltage and balance the active
power between shunt and series inverters for the enhancement
of power quality.

This paper presents a new methodology to reduce harmonic distortion in UPQC using artificial neural network
and fuzzy logic controller. So this paper main aim is improve power quality by using UPQC with ANN and FLC. The most purpose of the proposed (ANN & FLC) is capable of providing good static and dynamic performances compared to PI controller. The UPQC is to control on voltage flicker/unbalance, reactive power and harmonics. In different words, the UPQC has the potential of up power quality at the purpose of installation on power industrial power systems. The appliance of computing is growing quick within the space of power electronics and drives. From olden days to now days we are using twelve switches used in back to back configuration. But now we are using nine switches instead of 12
switches. In 9 switch UPQC converter given the most useful benefits compared to 12 switches power converter. The nine switches UPQC converter gets the best results by using of three methods. They are one is PI controller technique, ANN controller technique and FLC controller technique. By contrast PI, FLC and ANN, ANN is better than (FLC & PI) for power quality enhancement and voltage sag and voltage swell mitigations. The factitious neural network (ANN) is taken into account as a replacement tool to style management electronic equipment for power quality (PQ) devices. A whole
simulation study is administrated to analysis the performance of the ANN controller and compares its performance with the quality FLC & PI controller’s results. The nine-switch convertor has already been proved to possess sure benefits,

Adaptive Modified Minimally Switched Hysteresis Controlled Shunt Active Power...idescitation
The main focus of this article is to investigate the
effects of Adaptive control on the switching frequency and
Total Harmonic Distortion of a modified, minimally switched
hysteresis controlled shunt active power filter. Reference
current generation was done using Instantaneous real and
reactive power algorithm. Pulses to the minimally switched
grid interactive inverter in which only two switches are
controlled at a time, had been generated using a modified
hysteresis current controller. Use of Modified Hysteresis
controller results in reducing the switching loses to one-third
but results in increase in current THD than the conventional
hysteresis controller. To overcome this, pulses to the modified
hysteresis controller were generated employing adaptive
control by modifying pulses from a conventional hysteresis
controller. Using adaptive control instantaneous switching
frequency was reduced and maintained nearly constant and
THD was brought to the limits specified by the standards,
thus overcoming the disadvantage of conventional and modified
hysteresis controller which has variable switching frequency.
A comparison of Modified Hysteresis controller with and
without Adaptive control has been made, to show the reduction
in THD. The system was simulated using MATLAB-
SIMULINK.

The capability of transmission loss minimization of the power system network by
advanced unified power flow controller (UPFC) is the main focus in this paper. An
important factor effecting power transmission systems today is power flow control. The
increment of load variation in a power transmission system can lead to potential failure on
the entire system as the system has to work under a stressed condition. Thus, the Flexible
AC Transmission System (FACTS) are integrated in power system to control the active
power and reactive power simultaneously in specific lines and improve the security of
transmission line without violating economic generation dispatch. This paper presents
Advanced Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) which can provide functional flexibility
for loss minimization and voltage profile monitoring in a power system network. The
UPFC devices are installed in the system based on voltage stability index in order to
enhance the system security, performed on the IEEE 30-bus RTS for several loading
conditions. Simulations were carried out using MATLAB software to check the
performance of UPFC.
Mitigation of Voltage Imbalance in A Two Feeder Distribution System Using IupqcIJMERJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: Proliferation of electronic equipment in commercial and industrial processes has resulted in increasingly sensitive electrical loads to be fed from power distribution system which introduce contamination to voltage and current waveforms at the point of common coupling of industrial loads. The unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) is connected between two different feeders (lines), hence this method of connection of the UPQC is called as Interline UPQC (IUPQC).This paper proposes a new connection for a UPQC to improve the power quality of two feeders in a distribution system. Interline Unified Power Quality Conditioner (IUPQC), specifically aims at the integration of series VSC and Shunt VSC to provide high quality power supply by means of voltage sag/swell compensation, harmonic elimination in a power distribution network, so that improved power quality can be made available at the point of common coupling. The structure, control and capability of the IUPQC are discussed in this paper. The efficiency of the proposed configuration has been verified through simulation using MATLAB/ SIMULINK.

Adaptive Modified Minimally Switched Hysteresis Controlled Shunt Active Power...idescitation
The main focus of this article is to investigate the
effects of Adaptive control on the switching frequency and
Total Harmonic Distortion of a modified, minimally switched
hysteresis controlled shunt active power filter. Reference
current generation was done using Instantaneous real and
reactive power algorithm. Pulses to the minimally switched
grid interactive inverter in which only two switches are
controlled at a time, had been generated using a modified
hysteresis current controller. Use of Modified Hysteresis
controller results in reducing the switching loses to one-third
but results in increase in current THD than the conventional
hysteresis controller. To overcome this, pulses to the modified
hysteresis controller were generated employing adaptive
control by modifying pulses from a conventional hysteresis
controller. Using adaptive control instantaneous switching
frequency was reduced and maintained nearly constant and
THD was brought to the limits specified by the standards,
thus overcoming the disadvantage of conventional and modified
hysteresis controller which has variable switching frequency.
A comparison of Modified Hysteresis controller with and
without Adaptive control has been made, to show the reduction
in THD. The system was simulated using MATLAB-
SIMULINK.

The capability of transmission loss minimization of the power system network by
advanced unified power flow controller (UPFC) is the main focus in this paper. An
important factor effecting power transmission systems today is power flow control. The
increment of load variation in a power transmission system can lead to potential failure on
the entire system as the system has to work under a stressed condition. Thus, the Flexible
AC Transmission System (FACTS) are integrated in power system to control the active
power and reactive power simultaneously in specific lines and improve the security of
transmission line without violating economic generation dispatch. This paper presents
Advanced Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) which can provide functional flexibility
for loss minimization and voltage profile monitoring in a power system network. The
UPFC devices are installed in the system based on voltage stability index in order to
enhance the system security, performed on the IEEE 30-bus RTS for several loading
conditions. Simulations were carried out using MATLAB software to check the
performance of UPFC.

ABSTRACT: Proliferation of electronic equipment in commercial and industrial processes has resulted in increasingly sensitive electrical loads to be fed from power distribution system which introduce contamination to voltage and current waveforms at the point of common coupling of industrial loads. The unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) is connected between two different feeders (lines), hence this method of connection of the UPQC is called as Interline UPQC (IUPQC).This paper proposes a new connection for a UPQC to improve the power quality of two feeders in a distribution system. Interline Unified Power Quality Conditioner (IUPQC), specifically aims at the integration of series VSC and Shunt VSC to provide high quality power supply by means of voltage sag/swell compensation, harmonic elimination in a power distribution network, so that improved power quality can be made available at the point of common coupling. The structure, control and capability of the IUPQC are discussed in this paper. The efficiency of the proposed configuration has been verified through simulation using MATLAB/ SIMULINK.
Parasitic Boost Circuit for Transform Less Active Voltage Quality RegulatorIJMTST Journal
The voltage sag compensator, based on a series-connected voltage-source inverter, is among the most cost-effective solution against voltage sags. When voltage sags happen, the transformers, which are often installed in front of critical loads for electrical isolation, are exposed to the disfigured voltages and a dc offset will occur in its flux linkage. In this paper, a new topology of series-connected compensator is presented to mitigate long duration deep sags, and the compensation ability is highly improved with a unique shunt converter structure acting as a parasitic boost circuit that has been theoretically analyzed using open loop & closed loop control schemes. Additionally, the proposed active voltage quality regulator is a cost effective solution for long duration sags that are lower than 50% of the nominal voltage as it is transformer less compared with the traditional dynamic voltage restorer. a new topology of series-connected compensator is presented to mitigate long duration deep sags, and the compensation ability is highly improved with a unique shunt converter structure acting as a parasitic boost circuit that has been theoretically analyzed.

concern in advanced power system element, it is essential to congregate the need of energy by employ the
renewable energy generating sources like pv, fuel cell, biomass, wind, etc and utilizing many more
applications like grid interconnected systems, power quality improvement. The situations like harmonic,
reactive power exchanging, power factor correction, balanced and un-balanced voltage variations & so on,
due to greater effect on highly susceptible loads are to be encouraged in power distribution system. To
enhance these circumstances, custom power appliances are used to achieve high grid voltage stability. In
this paper, a voltage distortions controlled D-STATCOM based on fuzzy controller is a meticulous power
appliance for enhancing harmonic distortions from high power semiconductor switching device,
exchanging the both active & reactive power, defend the gird stability by implementing DG technology, to
regulate the power quality issues in power distribution network. This paper implements the comparative
analysis of PI and Fuzzy controlled DSTATCOM with energy backup scheme, controlled by pwm control
technique and founded that fuzzy based IPQ theory for generation of reference current signals improves the
power quality than PI based IPQ theory and this analysis is dynamically evaluated with Matlab/Simulink.

This paper presents unified power quality conditioner (UPQC)for power quality improvements in terms of
harmonics compensation and power factor correction in a three-phase four-wire distribution system.The UPQC
is implemented with PWM controlled voltage source converter (VSC) and switching patterns are generated
through Indirect PI and Synchronous Reference Frame controller. The selected topology for voltage source
converter is the three-leg and six-leg VSC for Indirect PI and Synchronous reference frame (SRF) control
strategies respectively. The behavior of UPQC has been analyzed by considering a case study with switching of
three phase half bridge diode rectifier and a parallel star connected unbalanced R-L loads. Harmonic spectrum
of the source current and load voltage are compared in between without UPQC and with UPQC by considering
both control strategies. The complete system has been modeled using MATLAB software with its stimulus’s
sim power system toolboxes.

At present, a wide range of very flexible controllers, which capitalize on newly available power electronics components, are emerging for custom power applications. Power electronic based equipment aimed at enhancing the reliability and quality of power flows in low voltage distribution networks. A control algorithm is used for the extraction of the fundamental weighted value of active and reactive power components. Using digital signal processor the DSTATCOM is developed and its performance of DSTATCOM is found to be satisfactory for various types of loads. Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
