Death And Rebirth Of Traditional Family Values”. A Family
Death and Rebirth of Traditional Family Values
A family is a group of individuals related by blood, marriage, or adoption. Most people are familiar
with the term nuclear families . However, today the idea of a postmodern family is becoming more
and more common. A nuclear family consists of two parents and children. The nuclear family was
long held by society as being the ideal in which to raise children. The single parent family consists of
one parent raising one or more children on his or her own. This limits income and opportunities in
many cases, although many single parent families have help from relatives and friends. The extended
family structure consists of two or more adults who are related, either by blood or marriage, living in

Political values are following the law and respecting those who inforce it. Religious values center on
the expectations people have about themselves and others based on the beliefs of their faith. Work
values include such things as your philosophies about your job, your finances, and how you spend
your money. Moral values are your individual values about what you believe is right or wrong.
Recreational values refer to anything that involves fun or play. An example would be allowing each
family member to pursue individual interests.
Barnett 3
In the past, family s morals were more biblically based. Generation Cedar describes it by saying, The
man is the head, but the woman is the neck. And she can turn the head any way she likes. According to
The New York Times, Women are not only more likely to be the primary caregivers in a family.
Increasingly, they are primary breadwinners, too. Four in ten American households with children
under age eighteen now include a mother who is either the sole or primary earner for her family.

Looking For The Godfather
I believe the most important message in this story is to not abuse power. In the beginning of the story a
man was looking for a godfather for his son, the Lord was first to show up but the man said no
because the Lord was not fair, then the devil showed up but the devil was rejected because he cheats.
Then death shows up and the man believes he will be a good godfather because death takes every
person and is not bias. When the boy grew up, death gives him the gift to heal people; as long as he
follows the rules then he will become successful and rich. Death told the man that if he is at the
bottom of a sick person s feet then they are his and if death is at the sick persons head then they can be
healed. When the king becomes sick, death is

Analysis Of The Chase Annie Dillard
All good things must come to an end. A common phrase we have become accustomed to hearing, and
a phrase that parallels the meaning of Annie Dillard s The Chase , an excerpt from her autobiography
An American Childhood. In The Chase (1987), Annie Dillard recounts how childhood, no matter how
enjoyable, will come to a close. Dillard conveys this by carefully detailing her childhood experience
as a tomboy and that nothing girls did could not compare (1). Her experience during the chase
symbolized an end of Dillard s childhood and wishing for the glory to last forever (19). The author
recounts her story of the chase in order to express exuberance and love for childhood compared to the
fact of mandatory growing old. The author addresses the audience in this narrative chapter of An
American Childhood to express how short childhood is is this passing craze of life. The author uses
expertly composed imagery, parallelism, diction and tone to create the impactful story in a chapter of
her autobiography. The use of imagery builds the story and expresses how important Dillard s
childhood was in shaping the women she has become today . The excerpt begins with a reflection
upon her childhood and growing up a tomboy. Dillard set the stage for the chase by explaining the day
as cloudy but cold (5) with cars lining the snow covered street. Imagery is used not only to set the
stage for the day of the chase but it is also used to describe the man chasing them as a city man
dressed in a suit and tie, street shoes (10). Using imagery to describe the man s appearance helps the
reader to understand how unusual the man s appearance was and that the man was chasing them
through the city. Dillard builds the suspense of the chase by taking the reader through the motions,
past a ...yellow house...under a low tree, up a bank, through a hedge... (12), she builds an image in our
minds of the neighborhood. The imagery is used to build up the scene, convey suspense and create
emotions for the reader. Dillard chose to use diction, or word choice, to accent the two different
aspects of the story. One aspect of the author s word choice was to portray her young, seven year old
personality. She chose to use a simple words

The General Motor s President
The General Motor s president, Alfred Sloan found out two critical issues that impeded his company
to be succeeded in mass production and completed the mass production system based on Ford s
deficiency. Subsequently, Sloan resolved his firm s problems step by step. Firstly, he established the
decentralized divisions operated by some senior managers, who would share the profits with Sloan.
Later, he created a product range from cheap to expensive that could satisfy most of buyers. From
Sloan s case, seniority seemed like a key to determine the workers, and it was also a basis for job
assignments. Mass production became very popular in 1955 because many U.S. companies used Ford
s plant practices and Sloan s management means to improve their productivity. At that time, the U.S.
automobile industry led the world s car manufacture with more than seven billion car were sold. The
spread of mass production was not only in the United States, but also in Europe because many craft
production companies applied mass production for their products. However, the problems occurred,
particularly, in the workforce. Workers figured out that the mass production work was unprofitable,
and this caused the stagnant of mass products in the United States as well as Europe. This was the
time for a new kind of production: lean production . The Rise of Lean Production. In 1950, Eiji
Toyoda, a Japanese engineer from Toyota Motor Company, had a trip to one of the Ford s plant in
Detroit because he

Stan Lee Research Paper
With great power comes great responsibility. It s a quote everyone has heard in their life time, and this
man is the mastermind behind the phrase. In Stan Lee s case he may have created the catchy line as a
one off for a character, but never would he of expected to have it end up in dozens of movies and tv
shows spanning decades. Stanley Martin Lieber, later legally changed to his pseudonym name Stan
Lee, is the creator of some of the worlds most recognizable and profitable characters and franchises on
the planet to this day through Marvel Comics. To name just a few of these marvelous characters;

Jack Kirby and Joe Simon briefly decide to leave the company. This gives Stan Lee free range to
create characters and story lines as he pleases. After a long gray period of watered down comics that
people were not enjoying reading or creating Lee makes a bold move based on the opinion of his wife,
Joan Lee, who sees how much they are struggling. He pushes his higher ups to allow him to start
producing comics outside the CCA. They hesitantly allow him to try this risky business move. This
turns out to be just the step Timely needed as it saved them from bankruptcy. Fantastic Four is
published pushing them out in front of their only leading competitor DC for the first time in history.
The success of Fantastic Four brings upon the X Men, Hulk, Iron Man, and the rise of multi
cultural/ethnic characters to the comic world. Timely promptly rebrands to Marvel Comics, and the
Silver Age of Comics comes to a close and the Bronze Age begins. The Bronze Age (1970 s/1985 )
restored the comic culture to America and slowly began spreading around the globe as well. As they
evolved Stan Lee pushed boundaries right along with it. Lee is largely credited for being the person
who re envisioned the very structure of how heroes are portrayed and wrote. He strongly believed the
character under the mask is just as or more important than the hero itself. This shift in direction
changed the entire way visual story telling was perceived at the time. Now characters weren t just
super, they were human too. Relatable people with struggles, relationships, and even everyday jobs.
He also strived to set the majority of Marvels stories in the real world and not in fictional settings.
This allowed for relatable fathomable individuals and the creation of Marvels biggest triumph

The Guilt Of Murder In Edgar Allen Poe s Tell-Tale Heart
When people commit murder, they try to justify their actions with logical reasons for doing so.
However, if the reasons are not valid, they try to convince themselves that they are. The short story
Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe describes the actions of an unknown narrator who cunningly
murders an elderly man at midnight because of his vulture eye. The narrator recounts the confidence
in his finesse of the concealment of the body until he hears the first unperceived thumping of the dead
man s heart, driving him to confess to the police. His frantic attempts to convince the reader of his
justification of the murder and that he is not insane creates suspense that leaves the reader at the edge

One might object here that the narrator lacked the mental capacity to distinguish right from wrong.
The claim of mental insanity could be supported by the narrator s abnormal hearing of the dead old
man s heart thumping. ...but the noise arose over all and continually increased. It grew louder louder
louder! (Poe). It is correct that normal people do not hear dead people s hearts beating, however, what
he likely heard was the sound of his own heart ringing loudly in his ears due to his guilty conscience.
The various instances where the narrator described how afraid he felt when staring at the man s
vulture eye specifies that he indeed did have a motive to kill the old man. In the beginning, he stated
that he cared for the old man, but his eye that resembled a vulture frightened him. ...his blood ran cold
(Poe). His obvious discomfort and contempt when looking at the eye irked him so much that he killed
the elderly man to purge the mere thought of the evil eye from his mind. To add on, every night for
eight nights, he would sneak into the old man s room to wait for the quintessential time to commit the
final deed of killing him. However, the narrator had to wait several days to strike because as the old
man was sleeping, his eye was not open and his eye was the true object that vexed him. ...but I found
the eye always closed...it was impossible to do the work (Poe). On the eighth night, the old man heard

Disaster, Characteristics And Management Stages Essay
Disaster Characteristics and Management Stages
The purpose of this paper is to examine a recent natural disaster. The number of natural disasters has
risen dramatically in the past two decades. Natural disasters are increasing exponentially and creating
expanding amounts of destruction each year. A recent natural disaster to examine is the flooding in
Louisiana August 2016. This paper will discuss the type of disaster, characteristics of the disaster, and
the application of disaster management stages.
Current Natural Disaster
The morning of August 13th, Baton Rouge and much of southern Louisiana were devastated by
extreme flooding after 20 inches of rain hit the area in a 48 hour period. Rescue teams are calling it the
worst natural disaster to strike the United States since Superstorm Sandy. This flood has damaged
60,000 homes, leaving an estimated 30,000 people displaced from their homes (CNN, 2016). The
federal government declared this a major disaster killing at least 13 people, flooding thousands of
homes, and prompting thousands of water rescues (The Weather Channel, 2016).
Type of Disaster
There are three different types of disasters, man made, natural, or a combination of both (Nies
McEwen, 2015). The flooding in Louisiana was a natural disaster. Unfortunately, in the past ten years
there has been a dramatic increase in the frequency and intensity of natural weather related disasters
(Veenema et al., 2016). Flooding is most common in the United

Jones Blair Company Case Study
JBC s market area and segmentation

Worth
JBC s potential segment(s) and strategy
In order to reach these business goals at a time when growth is nonexistent, Jones Blair must take
immediate action and increase their sales team and refocus their sales energies.
Jones Blair is a regional paint manufacturer that has to compete in a mature market (sales growth are
expected to be the general rate of inflation) and also very concentrated, since the seven major
producers account for upwards of 60 percent of sales.
Therefore, in this market context, Jones Blair will need to increase its sales in volume, but keep its

However, as the sales reps have focused on current customers over the last five years the sales team
has added only five new professional accounts. As well, in the areas outside DFW, 70% of sales are
derived from do it yourself painters. As well, the company could consider increasing their present
sales reps, eight, by an additional representative. At present, 70% of sales within DFW are derived
from professional painters. However, the benefit of cutting the prices would not increase company
sales to a point where they could maintain current contribution margin numbers. Given that the mass
merchandisers are presently not pursuing this market source, the Jones Blair Company would do well
to draw upon their superior salesmen and initiate sales from this resource. Thus resulting only in
approximately a 3% increase in customer purchases, from 15% to 18%. A posed increase of
approximately 3% in the DFW area would increase the company tms brand awareness by 5%, from
approximately 25% to 30%. The company tms sales representatives have a superior reputation with
their dealers. In such an instance, increases in sales come with increases in variable costs related to the
product.
Alternative Courses of Action
The market for do it yourself consumers is forecasted to reach US$ 5.74 billion by the year 2003 (see
appendix 2) and it seems to be the best segment for Jones Blair to focus its resources on, since

POC simply means scanning patient s medication at bedside before administering medication. This
enhances safe practice by making sure that the patients take the right medication observing the five
rights of medication administration (Waxlax, 2015). It is also important to note that medication with
dosage formulation such as insulin, medications in the form of ampules, ointments and creams, to
mention but a few need to be paid attention to as this will improve the practice of POC scanning
leading to error reduction during medication administration (Waxlax, 2015). For instance medication
in the form of ampules are titrated in the medication room. As a result of not preparing the said
medication at the patient s bedside, the nurse cannot be able to scan the barcode because he/she does

Was Agamemnon Is Achilles Justified In The Aeneid
Through the history of the world, man has always been driven by self gain and each man believes he
is self justified. When Agamemnon and Achilles argue over the return of Chryseis and the prize
Briseis, they both think they are right. Achilles convinces Agamemnon to return the stolen Chryseis
but King Agamemnon takes Achilles Briseis as compensation. Agamemnon is most justified in his
actions. No, he did not fight on the front lines with Achilles and his men, but as the king he has every

Vitruvius Impact On Modern Architecture
The film proposal is for a small, artistic, Indie drama film. The movie is directed towards future
architects just like Vitruvius writing. The film would copy the message in De Architectura and tell
about the importance of Architects and what an Architect should know. It would be a movie that
professors require first year architecture students to watch. It would be educational and provide an
entertaining way to learn about the impact of architecture on society. 3.
The movie takes place in 12 AD Rome and in 2016 at the University of Cincinnati. 12 AD is a time
that Vitruvius would have been alive and Augustus would have been emperor. It s a time before De
Architectura was completed so that the lessons Vitruvius learns in the modern world could influence
the collection of writing. This will help preserve the modern thoughts on architecture in classical times
and push forth innovation years in advance. This plays on the fact that Vitruvius writings were

The film plays off of this and the plot consists of convincing him to not be so conservative. We are

significance at it s time of writing but with his new understanding on contemporary architecture it
would become very popular and not be lost for hundreds of years like it was. To modernize the
literature I have Vitruvius apply his theories to modern times. The genre of the original text was not a
drama, but anything can be made into a narrative. To do that there is a lot of other dialogue besides
just direct quotes from Vitruvius writing. It would be a boring film to just watch a series of lectures so
there needed to be entertaining elements of time travel, violence, stealing, competition,

Hydrogen Fluoride Research Paper
Hydrogen fluoride is a highly dangerous chemical compound and pollutant. Hydrogen fluoride is a
colorless gas with a strong odor and gas that is extremely soluble in water ( Hydrogen 2015). When
dissolved in water, hydrogen fluoride is typically called hydrofluoric acid ( Facts 2013). It is one of
the strongest known acids with a pH of 1. It has a specific gravity between 1.15 and 1.18 and a
molecular weight of 20.10 grams per mole (Strategic). Hydrogen fluoride is commonly used in
industries. It is highly used in oil refineries, removing rust, and glass etching. It is also used in
everyday cleaning products, like car cleaners and water spot removers (ATSDR 1992). Hydrogen

Gender Inequality In Sociology And Gender Roles
In Sociology, gender roles are a big part of everyday discussion. With that comes the controversy with
gender inequality. The differences of what it really means to be an equal gender nation has been
around for years, but it has been becoming more and more popular with politics and media recently.
Females are portrayed as inferior to males when they should be treated as equals in today s society. We
have come a long way since the Women s Rights Movement in the 1800s, but there is still work to be
done. To better understand gender inequality, it is important to understand the root where it came
from, specific manifestations dealt with gender inequality, and solutions on how to make gender
inequality a term of the past. Gender inequality is the social process by which people are treated
differently and disadvantageously, under similar circumstances, on the basis of gender (Gender
inequality, 2017). This means that one gender is not being treated equally compared to another gender
and in most cases it is women. The roots of gender inequality are not from any recent time. In China,
they actually are dated back 2,500 years to the Bronze Age according to a recent study from Queens
College in New York City. Studies were done by scientists who examined Neolithic Age graves from
the Chinese Central Plains about 5,000 years ago. They reported their findings when they examined
their bones for signs of stress. Their examinations concluded that there was a significant change in

How Archaeology Is The Base Of The Future
History is the base of the future. History is the whole series of past events connected with someone or
something in the future. History is a narration of the events which have happened among mankind,
including an account of the rise and fall of nations, as well as of other great changes which have
affected the political and social condition of the human race (John J. Anderson 1876). Events become
history when it travels the certain time interval and makes connections in the future. History is the
study of the past and the study of the ancient and the recent human past through material remains is
known as archeology.
Archaeology offers a unique perspective on human history and culture that has contributed greatly to
our understanding of both the ancient and the recent past. Archaeology helps us understand not only
where and when people lived on the earth, but also why and how they have lived, examining the
changes and causes of changes that have occurred in human cultures over time, seeking patterns and
explanations of patterns to explain everything from how and when people first came to inhabit the
Americas, to the origins of agriculture and complex societies ( Society for American Archaeology ).
Archeology include study of human artifacts which were made in the past and buried or thrown away
in the present day: everything made by human beings from simple tools to complex machines.
Archeology is the study of history using the past material remaining in the present age.

Louis Riel Summary
The second part of the comic strip biography Louis Riel by Chester Brown, starts off in early
September 1870 in St. Joseph, Dakota territory. Louis Riel is reading a note which talks about how the
Canadian soldiers have wreaked havoc on the Red River Colony. It talks about how some Métis men
had been murdered and quite a few were beaten. Women had also been raped in the settlement too.
The Canadian soldiers have brought a reign of fear to the Red River settlement. This is an excerpt
from the note Louis Riel was reading. Also, Schultz returned and was basically running things. The
comic strip biography then fasts forwards to the summer of 1871. Louis Riel is reading another note
now. This one is talking about how the land the people of the settlement had been promised by the
Canadian government was being given to people from Eastern Canada. The exceptional rich farmland
was being given to the British farmers and the requests for land were being delayed. After this Riel
goes to his mother s house in the settlement and finds that many of the soldiers have went home. His
mother though, warns him to lay low. The story then shifts and fast forwards to Ottawa in the
December of 1871, about five to seven months later. Father Ritchot has arranged a meeting with John
Alexander Macdonald to discuss amnesty for Louis Riel s crimes. Father Ritchot immediately
confronts John Alexander Macdonald, demanding to know why the amnesty was not granted. John
Alexander Macdonald responds by

On The Zebra Mussel
The reading claims that the zebra mussel can be a critical threat to freshwater fish population in all of
North America. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute
them all. First, the author argues that the history has showed that the invasion of the zebra mussel can
be stoppable. Conversely, the lecturer underlines the fact that it is true which in the past the invasion
of the zebra mussel in the new location in which it had been carried to was impossible to control
because of lack of knowledge. Nowadays, when a ship travels through the ocean, it will empty the
water in which is in the place which it arrives. If they fill the ship with the water of ocean, it will kill
the zebra mussel before releasing

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Research Paper
Nora Roberts says, The wounded recognized the wounded. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower written
by Stephen Chbosky is a novel in which the narrator, known as Charlie, is an introvert teenage boy
who tells his experiences throughout a series of letters to an anonymous stranger. Years after its first
published copy in 1999, the novel reached The New York Times Best Seller list after a film version
was made. Charlie is a freshman in high school that struggles a lot with personality and shyness
issues. After being raped by his favorite aunt when he was a kid, Charlie develops a silent depression.
Chbosky highlights the reason of Charlie s shyness, how his friendship with Sam and Patrick saves
him, and the reason why he falls in love with Sam. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Charlie has difficulties making friends since his background does not allow him to be a social person.
One of the reasons is that a year before, his only friend in middle school, Michael, commits suicide.
The second reason is the death of his Aunt Helen (his favorite aunt). This event creates a negative
impact on Charlie s life. All these factors contribute to Charlie s shyness, but the real reason of his
introvert personality is due to his Aunt Helen. The author does not tell the reader, but one can come to
the conclusion that early in Charlie s life his aunt abuses him. He previously has suicidal attempts
because he gets to think that Aunt Helen s death is his fault. Being so young and naïve, he does not
acknowledge that his favorite aunt has sexually abused him. He hates her so much because she is
hurting him, but at the same time he loves her because she is good to him. These mix feelings drives
him crazy and makes a negative impact in Charlie s emotions and

It is a finely grained substance that is captured and recycled at power plants with a variety of uses in
the construction industry. Fly ash is most commonly used as a pozzolan as an admixture for Portland
cement in concrete production. According to the IEA Clean Coal Centre, there are over 2300 coal fired
power stations worldwide, where 620 of those plants located in China . Coal generates 54% of the
world s electricity and is the single biggest CO2 air polluter . Due to these statistics, it is obvious that
a significant amount of fly ash is also produced worldwide. The manufacture of fly ash requires a
considerable amount energy including the transportation of raw materials, electrical energy involved
in the operation of equipment and the energy required for the combustion inside a power plant. With
this, the production of fly ash produces air pollutants. These are NO2, SO2, particulates, mercury and
CO2. These pollutants have significant impacts on the degradation of the natural environment. Due to
this, there has been a significant drive to using alternative sustainable fuel sources in order to reduce
worldwide harmful emissions. However, because fly ash is simply a by product of power generation,
not the end product, it is in fact an environmentally conservative product, one that should be promoted
in the construction industry. If the percentage of fly ash recycled could be increased, it would

Flood Insurance And Natural Disasters
Floods are the leading cause of natural disasters in the world and the second deadliest weather related
hazard and the number one natural disaster in the United States (Doocy, Daniels, Murray Kirsch,
2013) In fact, during the 20th century alone floods are responsible for more than 6.8 million deaths
worldwide and for over 4,500 deaths in the United States over the last 47 years (Ashley Ashley, 2007).
Additionally, floods pose a significant risk to property and safety. It is estimated annually that floods
cause billions of dollars in damages (Brody, Zahran, Maghelal Grover, 2007). According to the
National Flood Insurance Program from 2011 to 2015, the average flood claim amounted to more than

Currently more than 3.8 million people reside in the Susquehanna River watershed, thus many people

Aging Population In Canada
A rapidly aging population and declining birth rate present a problem to policymakers as far as
dynamic demand drivers in the economy, increase in health care costs, reduction in the working age
population and unsustainable pension commitments are concerned (Beaujot, Ravanera, 2013). This is
the major socio economic problem that is being witnessed in the province of Quebec, Canada. The
standards of living of the people in the province have been greatly affected as the issue intensifies.
Aging population has significantly affected economic development in the province as the government
tends to focus more resources on tackling the issue instead of concentrating on more progressive
projects. This paper provides an opinion based analysis on the problem of aging population and
declining birth rate in the province of Quebec in Canada.
Low population in Quebec has been something that the province has been facing. This is because of
the continuous drop in the number of births coupled with the rapidly aging population. According to
the provincial statistics bureau, 1.6 children per woman was witnessed in 2015 which is a drop by one
percent compared to the 2014 statistics. The birth rate of the province has been going down from the
year 2009. The fertility rate of the province was 1.60 in the year 2016 (Beaujot, Ravanera, 2013). This
problem of low birth rate puts the future generation at risk and it has already affected the economy of
the province.

It is said that loyalty and devotion lead to bravery. In the play A Midsummer Night s Dream, these
major themes play into each other for a compelling tale. Shakespeare uses loyalty to entwine the
following character relationships. Hermia and her father Egeus do not see eye to eye when it comes to
who is the worthier young man, Lysander or Demetrius. This provokes Hermia and Lysander to run

customer. In order to achieve this goal they had a management process that stressed simplicity and
attention to detail, a willingness to assume responsibility and to help as evidenced by the

A Clean, Well Lighted Place
A clean, well lighted place may be needed more by some than others on dark, lonely nights. The clean,
well lighted café in Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place represents a safe place in which one
can escape their troubles and loneliness that lurk in night s darkness. In the story the characters of the
older waiter and younger waiter differ substantially. They debate over the old man s being in the café,
which is an over stayed visit to the younger waiter. The younger waiter longed for the old man to go
home and eventually forced the old man to leave the café. The older waiter displayed sympathy for the
drunken old man and claimed that he is one of those that likes to stay late at the café. The café
represents more than just a place to drink; it is symbolic and holds a deeper significance. The old man
had attempted suicide and the waiters discuss the possible reasoning behind it, claiming that he was in
despair. We also know that the old man is looked after by his niece who cut him down from the rope
that he hung himself with. It is easy to grow sympathy and empathy for the old man as the older waiter
does. The younger waiter feels differently towards the old man, claiming that An old man is a nasty
thing (p. 153). The younger waiter also told the old man that he should have killed himself last week
(the old man is deaf). There is minimal narration in the story; the story consists mostly of dialogue.

National Reading Panel Summary
The National Reading Panel (NRP) and the International Reading Association (IRA) are two different
associations that provide research findings on the best practices for teaching and learning literacy.
Reading and understanding the findings of both associations is important for educators and parents to
boost the literacy rates of our children. Below I will summarize the reading standards that our outlined
by both and provide my thoughts and insights.
The NRP concludes that children need to be taught certain instructional methods to excel in reading.
The methods include phonemic awareness, phonics skills, reading with fluency, and comprehension
strategies including vocabulary development. The panel concludes that phonemic awareness should
begin in preschool and continue through the elementary school years, phonics instruction should begin
in kindergarten through sixth grade and once children are reading, fluency and comprehension skills
need to be taught through various techniques throughout the elementary years and beyond.
The panel goes on to explain detailed methods to teach the different standards. Beginning with
phonemic awareness, early in education, the findings conclude that children who have direct
instruction improved their reading skills more that children who did not receive this instruction. The
understanding that oral language is made up of connected phonemes gives children the foundation to
read and write. Once a child has phonemic understanding, the

INTRODUCTION
A few years ago, 13 year old Tavaris Knight was convicted by a criminal court jury in Tampa, Florida,
of kidnapping and raping a 43 year old woman. Prosecutors proved that Knight, who was 12 at the
time of the offense, had used a silver toy gun to force the woman away from her four young children
at a playground and into the surrounding woods. Knight raped the woman twice and beat her with the
gun, which he left behind.2 Knight s case had been transferred to adult criminal court because of the
serious nature of his crimes. In closing arguments, prosecutor Michael Sinacore pointed to Knight,
saying, That young man is not a child. He stopped being a child when he forced [his victim] into the
woods and raped her. 3 Following conviction, Knight was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Florida
Circuit Judge Jack Espinosa, Jr. Knight will likely be held at a youth facility for sexual offenders until
he is 21, at which time he could be transferred to another youth offender facility until the age of 25,
followed by adult prison.4 Crimes committed by preteens are not that unusual. In 2005, for example, a

Gascoigne Literary Devices
In For That He Looked Not upon Her, George Gascoigne uses several literary devices to bring his
poem together in a way that makes the point of it clear. He also uses these devices to show the deeper
meaning behind his words. Of many, three of the devices used prominently throughout his work is
form, diction, and imagery. All pulled together the author is able to clearly portray a betrayed tone
towards the subject of the poem. An example of the diction in his writing is use of word such as
blazing, flame, fire, and scorched. These words often have a negative connotation as they re ones that
often mean danger or something one should be cautious of or stay away from all together. By saying
the subject of the poem has blazing eyes , for example, Gascoigne makes it clear that this person is
harmful and either will, or has caused some sort of damage. Words such as trustless, doubt, deceit are
also ones that have a negative connotation and are used to show the relationship between the examples
used. All together this shows that the relationship at hand is meant to have the same connotation and is
being portrayed in a negative light. Continuing with diction, by using phrases such as trustless bait and
dazzled by desire , the author is saying that above only being something cruel, all of these things are
ones that at first appear alluring. By inserting vague words like hardly and seldom, he says that while

The Reprimand Essay
Sympathy in The Reprimand Sympathy is an extension of empathic concern, or the perception,
understanding, and reaction to the distress or need of another human being. Sympathy must be given
and received in order for the world to operate because all humans make mistakes that impact other
people s lives. The Reprimand is a short phone play written by Jane Anderson in 2000. The two
characters, Rhona and Mim, have a confrontation about what Rhona believes to be an inappropriate
remark during a meeting. In The Reprimand, Mim deserves the most sympathy from the audience
because Rhona intentionally manipulates her into believing she is not respected by her male co
workers. Mim deserves the most sympathy because Rhona tells her that she ... Show more content on

This single comment by Mim lets everyone know that she really is hurt by the situation. In any
situation, the audience will give sympathy to the character who is degraded by the other characters just
like Mim is degraded by Rhona. Rhona does not deserve the sympathy of the audience because she
did not handle the situation in a professional manner. She is too forceful and degrading to Mim when
she confronts her about Mim s comment. Rhona says, but you didn t say better, you said bigger
(Anderson 1783). She corrects what Mim meant by her comment to make her sound like she was
trying to be mean, when she actually was trying to do something nice for her because it was Rhona s
project. She was implying that Rhona deserved the big chair because it was her project and she would
most likely be leading the meeting with the other employees. This act of kindness and respect is
turned around to be mean and disrespectful by Rhona. Rhona says, Honey, there was a reason why
Dick and Danny asked you all the follow up questions (Anderson 1784). Rhona is implying to Mim
that she took the attention away from her even though she is the one who is in charge of the project.
Sympathy should not be given to Rhona because she comes across as a selfish woman who just wants
to be the center of attention. Most people do not appreciate this type of personality. One last
meaningful thing that Rhona

The Killer Angel By Michael Shaara
The Killer Angel is a book elaborating on the history of the American civil war authored by Michael
Shaara. The book has gained popularity among American citizens as it covers one of the deadliest
battles in American history that took place at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, hence the title of the battle of
Gettysburg (Shaara 5). The crash involved two major groups, the Confederacy, and the Union. The
Confederacy constituted of seven secessionist states from the South who advocated for slavery while
the Union consisted of the northerners who advocated for the abolition of the slave trade and
recognition of black men as legitimate American citizens. The book widely covers the course of the
battle for the three primary days of the war, which were between 30th June 1863 and 2nd July 1863
(Shaara 32). According to the author, the Confederates are headed by General Robert E. Lee and
General James Longstreet. On their part, the Union army is spearheaded by General John Buford.
However, the battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is considered as the worst battle in the American
Civil War as the two groups lost a significant number of their soldiers (Shaara 37). It is also clear that
the two groups had different reasons for participating in the war. Soldiers from the two sides also had
different motivations hence the morale and willingness to fight on despite the risk of death. The given
essay aims at elaborating on the main reasons why men from the two different groups

Creating a Market for Electric Cars
When Ford Motor Company was founded in 1903, it would go on to start a revolution for the
American auto industry. Ford pioneered the assembly line and increased auto production substantially.
Today, Ford is one of the most successful auto makers in the world. According to the company, a key
factor of success is the focus on building relationships and placing the consumer first. Understanding
the consumer and how they view business helps Ford to continue improvement ( Marketing strategy ,
2010). Ford is a first rate example of good marketing techniques. They know how to sell a vehicle to a
consumer, as displayed by their position in the top eight of U. S. auto makers. New technology paves
the way for new ideas, and new ideas do best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without getting too far into the science of how an electric car works, battery power is a much more
efficient use of energy. One of the biggest reasons is because it conserves gasoline. The conservation
of gasoline is a great concern for many reasons, one of which is that the amount of money spent on
refining oil to produce the fuel is great. The oil industry plays a large role in the auto industry. Oil
currently hovers above $100 per barrel. Oil is a necessity for operating machinery, enabling a car to
function, and manufacturing gasoline. According to the California Energy Commission, as of March
10, 2014, the price of crude oil was $2.55. Ten years before that, the price was $.84, and in March
1999, the price was $.29. These prices reflect the daily market price for crude oil from the Alaska
North Slope (California Energy Commission, 2014). These figures show that oil is getting
increasingly expensive to produce, and that is reflected at the pump. Hybrids have the ability to use
battery and gas power, and electric cars use no gasoline at all. For this reason, electric cars are on their
way to becoming more and more appealing to consumers. Another reason that battery power is a
superior source of energy over gasoline is that electric cars produce little to no pollution. Cars that use
electricity to operate produce no tailpipe emissions. In a society where pollution control is becoming

Clover Flashbacks
Clover trudges through the brilliant white snow, carefully weaving her way through the tombstones
and flowers of the city s graveyard.
Every headstone is the same polished white marble engraved with the name of the person and the date
they died. Clover knows that all the coffins are the same too, having witnessed many a homecoming
of dark, wooden boxes as a trainee at the academy. Their trainers would stand next to them, solemn as
they recounted the death of the trainee (more often a mangled mess then a human being) in the coffin
floating by with a look that said, This is what happens when you fail.
So they didn t. More often than not, the trainees managed to win the show and return home a hero.
Clover chuckles bitterly as she sits down next to one of the graves, placing a bouquet of red ... Show

They said that if we won the war for them, we d be allowed to live. We should have known it was too
good to be true.
She gazes upon the roses, smiling. Clover felt tears streaming down her face, freezing on contact with
the cold winter air. He had always liked red roses.
And when she had seen him march through the crowd of soldiers, her breath caught in her throat.
She couldn t keep fighting. She couldn t, she couldn t, this was Soto, and she wasn t going to kill him.
But when he called her name, and the fighting stopped, everything became okay. And she found the
same person in his blue eyes.
But it was her who had changed. And even as they built their army, moving on to victory, she could
see the sadness in his eyes, the pain that told her in the year we had been apart; she had changed for
the worse.
The rest of the war was a blur, until the final stage where Ares and the rest of the army were supposed
to come to back them up.
But they weren t fast enough, and the two were left standing there, bleeding and bruised and battered,
but ready to end the fight.
But the backup never came, and the city began their

Most people are familiar with the term nuclear families . However, today the idea of a postmodern family is becoming more and more common. A nuclear family consists of two parents and children. The nuclear family was long held by society as being the ideal in which to raise children. The single parent family consists of one parent raising one or more children on his or her own. This limits income and opportunities in many cases, although many single parent families have help from relatives and friends. In the beginning of the story a man was looking for a godfather for his son, the Lord was first to show up but the man said no because the Lord was not fair, then the devil showed up but the devil was rejected because he cheats. Then death shows up and the man believes he will be a good godfather because death takes every person and is not bias. When the boy grew up, death gives him the gift to heal people; as long as he follows the rules then he will become successful and rich. • 6. Analysis Of The Chase Annie Dillard All good things must come to an end. A common phrase we have become accustomed to hearing, and a phrase that parallels the meaning of Annie Dillard s The Chase , an excerpt from her autobiography An American Childhood. In The Chase (1987), Annie Dillard recounts how childhood, no matter how enjoyable, will come to a close. Dillard conveys this by carefully detailing her childhood experience as a tomboy and that nothing girls did could not compare (1). Her experience during the chase symbolized an end of Dillard s childhood and wishing for the glory to last forever (19). The author recounts her story of the chase in order to express exuberance and love for childhood compared to the fact of mandatory growing old. The author addresses the audience in this narrative chapter of An American Childhood to express how short childhood is is this passing craze of life. The author uses expertly composed imagery, parallelism, diction and tone to create the impactful story in a chapter of her autobiography. The use of imagery builds the story and expresses how important Dillard s childhood was in shaping the women she has become today . The excerpt begins with a reflection upon her childhood and growing up a tomboy. Dillard set the stage for the chase by explaining the day as cloudy but cold (5) with cars lining the snow covered street. Imagery is used not only to set the stage for the day of the chase but it is also used to describe the man chasing them as a city man dressed in a suit and tie, street shoes (10). Using imagery to describe the man s appearance helps the reader to understand how unusual the man s appearance was and that the man was chasing them through the city. Dillard builds the suspense of the chase by taking the reader through the motions, past a ...yellow house...under a low tree, up a bank, through a hedge... (12), she builds an image in our minds of the neighborhood. The imagery is used to build up the scene, convey suspense and create emotions for the reader. Dillard chose to use diction, or word choice, to accent the two different aspects of the story. One aspect of the author s word choice was to portray her young, seven year old personality. She chose to use a simple words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The General Motor s President The General Motor s president, Alfred Sloan found out two critical issues that impeded his company to be succeeded in mass production and completed the mass production system based on Ford s deficiency. Subsequently, Sloan resolved his firm s problems step by step. Firstly, he established the decentralized divisions operated by some senior managers, who would share the profits with Sloan. Later, he created a product range from cheap to expensive that could satisfy most of buyers. From Sloan s case, seniority seemed like a key to determine the workers, and it was also a basis for job assignments. Mass production became very popular in 1955 because many U.S. companies used Ford s plant practices and Sloan s management means to improve their productivity. At that time, the U.S. automobile industry led the world s car manufacture with more than seven billion car were sold. The spread of mass production was not only in the United States, but also in Europe because many craft production companies applied mass production for their products. However, the problems occurred, particularly, in the workforce. Workers figured out that the mass production work was unprofitable, and this caused the stagnant of mass products in the United States as well as Europe. The number of natural disasters has risen dramatically in the past two decades. Natural disasters are increasing exponentially and creating expanding amounts of destruction each year. A recent natural disaster to examine is the flooding in Louisiana August 2016. • 21. Gender Inequality In Sociology And Gender Roles In Sociology, gender roles are a big part of everyday discussion. With that comes the controversy with gender inequality. The differences of what it really means to be an equal gender nation has been around for years, but it has been becoming more and more popular with politics and media recently. Females are portrayed as inferior to males when they should be treated as equals in today s society. We have come a long way since the Women s Rights Movement in the 1800s, but there is still work to be done. To better understand gender inequality, it is important to understand the root where it came from, specific manifestations dealt with gender inequality, and solutions on how to make gender inequality a term of the past. Gender inequality is the social process by which people are treated differently and disadvantageously, under similar circumstances, on the basis of gender (Gender inequality, 2017). This means that one gender is not being treated equally compared to another gender and in most cases it is women. The roots of gender inequality are not from any recent time. In China, they actually are dated back 2,500 years to the Bronze Age according to a recent study from Queens College in New York City. Studies were done by scientists who examined Neolithic Age graves from the Chinese Central Plains about 5,000 years ago. They reported their findings when they examined their bones for signs of stress. Their examinations concluded that there was a significant change in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the story the characters of the older waiter and younger waiter differ substantially. They debate over the old man s being in the café, which is an over stayed visit to the younger waiter. The younger waiter longed for the old man to go home and eventually forced the old man to leave the café. The panel goes on to explain detailed methods to teach the different standards. Beginning with phonemic awareness, early in education, the findings conclude that children who have direct instruction improved their reading skills more that children who did not receive this instruction. He also uses these devices to show the deeper meaning behind his words. Of many, three of the devices used prominently throughout his work is form, diction, and imagery. All pulled together the author is able to clearly portray a betrayed tone towards the subject of the poem. An example of the diction in his writing is use of word such as blazing, flame, fire, and scorched. These words often have a negative connotation as they re ones that often mean danger or something one should be cautious of or stay away from all together. By saying the subject of the poem has blazing eyes , for example, Gascoigne makes it clear that this person is harmful and either will, or has caused some sort of damage. Words such as trustless, doubt, deceit are also ones that have a negative connotation and are used to show the relationship between the examples used. All together this shows that the relationship at hand is meant to have the same connotation and is being portrayed in a negative light. Continuing with diction, by using phrases such as trustless bait and dazzled by desire , the author is saying that above only being something cruel, all of these things are ones that at first appear alluring. • 44. The Reprimand Essay Sympathy in The Reprimand Sympathy is an extension of empathic concern, or the perception, understanding, and reaction to the distress or need of another human being. Sympathy must be given and received in order for the world to operate because all humans make mistakes that impact other people s lives. The Reprimand is a short phone play written by Jane Anderson in 2000. The two characters, Rhona and Mim, have a confrontation about what Rhona believes to be an inappropriate remark during a meeting. In The Reprimand, Mim deserves the most sympathy from the audience because Rhona intentionally manipulates her into believing she is not respected by her male co workers. Mim deserves the most sympathy because Rhona tells her that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This single comment by Mim lets everyone know that she really is hurt by the situation. In any situation, the audience will give sympathy to the character who is degraded by the other characters just like Mim is degraded by Rhona. Rhona does not deserve the sympathy of the audience because she did not handle the situation in a professional manner. She is too forceful and degrading to Mim when she confronts her about Mim s comment. Rhona says, but you didn t say better, you said bigger (Anderson 1783). She corrects what Mim meant by her comment to make her sound like she was trying to be mean, when she actually was trying to do something nice for her because it was Rhona s project. She was implying that Rhona deserved the big chair because it was her project and she would most likely be leading the meeting with the other employees. This act of kindness and respect is turned around to be mean and disrespectful by Rhona. Rhona says, Honey, there was a reason why Dick and Danny asked you all the follow up questions (Anderson 1784). Rhona is implying to Mim that she took the attention away from her even though she is the one who is in charge of the project. Sympathy should not be given to Rhona because she comes across as a selfish woman who just wants to be the center of attention. Most people do not appreciate this type of personality. One last meaningful thing that Rhona ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. The Killer Angel By Michael Shaara The Killer Angel is a book elaborating on the history of the American civil war authored by Michael Shaara. The book has gained popularity among American citizens as it covers one of the deadliest battles in American history that took place at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, hence the title of the battle of Gettysburg (Shaara 5). The crash involved two major groups, the Confederacy, and the Union. The Confederacy constituted of seven secessionist states from the South who advocated for slavery while the Union consisted of the northerners who advocated for the abolition of the slave trade and recognition of black men as legitimate American citizens. The book widely covers the course of the battle for the three primary days of the war, which were between 30th June 1863 and 2nd July 1863 (Shaara 32). According to the author, the Confederates are headed by General Robert E. Lee and General James Longstreet. On their part, the Union army is spearheaded by General John Buford. However, the battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is considered as the worst battle in the American Civil War as the two groups lost a significant number of their soldiers (Shaara 37). It is also clear that the two groups had different reasons for participating in the war. Soldiers from the two sides also had different motivations hence the morale and willingness to fight on despite the risk of death. The given essay aims at elaborating on the main reasons why men from the two different groups ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without getting too far into the science of how an electric car works, battery power is a much more efficient use of energy. One of the biggest reasons is because it conserves gasoline. The conservation of gasoline is a great concern for many reasons, one of which is that the amount of money spent on refining oil to produce the fuel is great. The oil industry plays a large role in the auto industry. Oil currently hovers above $100 per barrel. Oil is a necessity for operating machinery, enabling a car to function, and manufacturing gasoline. According to the California Energy Commission, as of March 10, 2014, the price of crude oil was $2.55. Ten years before that, the price was $.84, and in March 1999, the price was $.29. These prices reflect the daily market price for crude oil from the Alaska North Slope (California Energy Commission, 2014). These figures show that oil is getting increasingly expensive to produce, and that is reflected at the pump. Hybrids have the ability to use battery and gas power, and electric cars use no gasoline at all. For this reason, electric cars are on their way to becoming more and more appealing to consumers. Another reason that battery power is a superior source of energy over gasoline is that electric cars produce little to no pollution. Cars that use electricity to operate produce no tailpipe emissions. In a society where pollution control is becoming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their trainers would stand next to them, solemn as they recounted the death of the trainee (more often a mangled mess then a human being) in the coffin floating by with a look that said, This is what happens when you fail. So they didn t. More often than not, the trainees managed to win the show and return home a hero. Clover chuckles bitterly as she sits down next to one of the graves, placing a bouquet of red ...
