Issues of Racial Identity during the Harlem Renaissance Essay
The early 1900s was a very challenging time for Negroes especially young women who
developed issues in regards to their identities. Their concerns stemmed from their skin colors.
Either they were fair skinned due mixed heritage or just dark skinned. Young African American
women experienced issues with racial identity which caused them to be in a constant struggle that
prohibits them from loving themselves and the skin they are in. The purpose of this paper is to
examine those issues in the context of selected creative literature. I will be discussing the various
aspects of them and to aid in my analysis, I will be utilizing the works of Nella Larsen from The

The Harlem Renaissance produced a myriad of talented writers. These writers included Nella
Larsen, Jessie Redmond Fauset, and Walter Thurman who told of the struggles with identity in
their writings. Nella Larsen was of mixed ancestry born to a Danish mother and a West Indian
father. It was a belief that her novel Quicksand, was based on her life. Larsen was born in
Chicago, Illinois in 1891. According to Wikipedia, she lived in Denmark for a few years and
attended Fisk University before settling in Harlem, where she worked as a nurse and later
becoming a librarian. She published her highly successful novel Quicksand in 1928. Another
popular writer of the Harlem Renaissance was Jessie Redmond Fauset. Fauset was the author of
the widely popular novel Plum Bun: A Novel Without Moral, which she published in 1928. Fauset

The first work of creative literature that I will be examining is Quicksand by Nella Larsen. The
time of the novel is during the 1920s in various American cities and in Copenhagen, Denmark.
These places provide both the scene and the backdrop for the main character to act out her journey
to find her identity. The first setting takes place in takes in the South at a school named Naxos. The
school was known as the finest schools for Negroes anywhere in the country, north or south... (1087

On Being Brought From Africa To America Summary
The Clever Meaning: Phillis Wheatley s On Being Brought from Africa to America *Phillis
Wheatley s On Being Brought from Africa to America is a cleverly ironic and heavily sarcastic
poem on Phillis wheatley s journey through her time in slavery. Written in a AABBCCDD rhyme
scheme which creates a focus on each couplet. Each rhyme couplet in On Being Brought from
Africato America is used to show the irony forced on her and her race. *For example, in the first
couplet Phillis stats how she was brought from Pagan lands. The way the line is written it is easy
to assume she is referring to her history. However, Phillis Wheatleyuses the word brought instead of
bought, referring to the transformation from Pagan to Christianity and not slavery.... Show more

This line shows her happiness of being in America, but her happiness is based on that she found
divine mercy in Christianity, and God. Phillis Wheatley even refers in the second half of the
couplet that her life before she was brought to America as benighted . Benighted in the means of
being overtaken by sin and darkness. The imagery of darkness symbolized here by the word
benighted is very intentional. Being well aware that the darkness of her skin is an excuse for
white people to judge her moral character. *In the second couplet; That there s a God, that there s
a Saviour too: Once I redemption neither sought nor knew. Phillis dissociate the moral darkness
from her physical appearance. She no longer believes in people s pagan religion. She now
believes in God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Even though, she states that to call her sinful for the life
she once lived is pointless. She never sought redemption in Christianity because she never knew
she had sinned. The irony of this couple is when it is compared to the first. For instance, In the
time slaves were seen as innately

A Suicide Prevention Center
If a person has a suicide related crisis, what should they do? A good place to start is calling 1 800
273 TALK. This is the National Suicide Helpline, and is an immediate resource to someone in
crisis. Several centers around the United States maintain the helpline and provided suicide related
services to their community. One of the centers in Colorado is Pueblo SuicidePrevention Center.
The agency has been working with suicide related issues for over forty years and has many
accomplishments. The agency works with several different types of people, and also serves their
community by working with students in different educational institutions. Most recently, the center

The programs that provide these services at PSPC include operating a 24 hour suicide helpline,
offering a support group for people who have lost a loved one to suicide, providing licensed
professional counseling, and educating the community. Most of these services are provided to the
people in Pueblo, however, the helpline serves all of the people in Colorado. Pueblo Suicide
Prevention Center was established on September 8, 1969 by twenty three community members
including some from Colorado Mental Health Institute and other leaders in Pueblo. The Colorado
Mental Health Institute identified the need for an intervention system that would offer services to
high risk, crisis situations that would be immediate and easily accessible. This led to the
formation of the 24 hour suicide helpline in Colorado. This action was considered a preventive
response to decrease suicide attempts and suicide related deaths. In 1979, Pueblo Suicide
Prevention Center became a member of the American Association of Suicidology. Then, became the
first Certified Center of the American Association of Suicidology in the State of Colorado. In 2014,
Metro Crisis Services also earned their accreditation and began providing services to
Colorado.(Dorwart, 2015) . Pueblo Suicide Prevention Center s mission statement is To work

Our Society Is The Waste Of Money
In an increasingly accessible world, people often take material objects for granted. As technology
progresses, people become obsessed with obtaining newer products. Every time Apple announces
a new product, everyone eagerly awaits its release. One of these products is the iPhone.
Unfortunately, the iPhone that symbolizes convenient communication and social progress also
represents the material obsession that is a characteristic of contemporary society. Even though
there are positive and negative connotations of materialistic obsession, ultimately, the symbol of
the iPhone represents the distressing side of our society. One of the most prevalent issues in our
society is the waste of money. The iPhone became the icon, the trend that everyone needs to get
their hands on, no matter the cost. People used to replace their phones only when they were
damaged, but now they replace them for no reason except the desire for something new. The
cheapest price for a new iPhone 7 with 32GB is $649 plus tax. This means that if people wants
more gigabytes or accessories, the price would be significantly higher. Even though iPhones are
useful, the money spent on unnecessary replacements is wasteful. According to CNN, a Chinese
billionaire s son, Wang Sicong purchased eight iPhone 7 handsets for his dog on the day of the
release (Griffiths). He has taken the lavish spending of money to a new level. In fact, this is not the
first time he wastefully spent money. Wang Sicong previously

Essay On Race Cars
Half arsed, boring, stupid, whatever you labelled last weekend s event, with numbers down, I
think most will agree there was plenty of room for improvement! Heading into the weekend
deep down I knew, like many, that the International SuperSprint format was not going to produce
the best racing. I accepted that, but still purchased tickets and went along for my annual
Supercars trip which generally becomes a highlight of my year. This time I don t feel like it will
be the highlight past years became. For a start the four 100km sprint races were all about
qualifying and getting the car off the line, then it was a matter of watching race cars circulate for
35 laps. This in itself is a very bad thing! Motorsport often has the stereotype of... Show more

The off track package is just as important as on the on track stuff, and a big part of the off track
package is merchandise. The merchandise at this year s event was shocking. Four team s set up
shop with very limited stock. Triple Eight and HRT combined to have a decent display and
storefront while GRM had a few fold out tables piled with shirts and PRA seemingly left most of
their stock behind. Merchandise is a highlight of the event for the diehard fans who want to
show off their support for their drivers and teams but unfortunately, most were left disappointed.
I purposely packed only one additional shirt for Friday because I planned on buying some shirts,
but there were none! Posters were also a rarity at this year s event, with anyone wanting
signatures ending up with 10 or so event promo posters signed by different drivers because the
lack of posters and merchandise meant that s all there was to sign. Young fans (and older ones)
love collecting the new posters each year and the only way that is going to happen this year is a
bit of searching on Ebay. Again, merchandise is part of the Supercars product and why teams aren
t required to take their merch with them to every round is something that needs to be looked out.
Yes, there is a cost, but surely it s something that could be subsidised by Supercars and/or the
promoters? The merchandise alley has also degraded in quality with outside vendors lacking in
numbers and the addition of

Running may not seem so appealing in the hot sun, or the freezing winter. And dark winter nights
may make a journey to the gym seem suddenly unappealing.
One of the top fitness tips shared by those who are dedicated to regular fitness is to plan ahead for
the season. Think about what you could do to adjust your fitness plans for the weather, and put
them into action long before you think about giving up.
Don t Skimp On Stretching: When you re short on time, it s all too easy to skip stretching before
and after your workout routine. Don t be tempted to do this yourself, as the results could be fatal.
Missing one stretching session could result in an injury that could ruin your fitness plan for
weeks. And while you re unable to exercise, the body you ve worked so hard for will deteriorate.
Exercise to Music You Love: Take the time to put an MP3 together that includes music that you
love to exercise to. This is one of the ultimate fitness tips as recent research has shown that listening
to music you enjoy actually increases dopamine levels, and makes you feel happier.

The Call Os Guinness
In my reflection of The Call this week, if I were to sum it up in one word it would be
responsibility . If a call is to have any legitimacy it has to be saturated in integrity; integrity cannot
exist unless we are diligent in the responsibilities of that call.
Once your journey begins you become more and more visible to those around you; family, work
mates, church members, and neighbors. If we are to have any influence in the lives of those we
live among and mission, we MUST be responsible ministers.
We cannot live in fear of messing up but we should live as though it matters if we do. If mistakes

The first was the story of Arthur F Burns when asked to pray at the informal White house prayer
group, it was a classic. In this chapter, as he dealt with the responsibly we have to be Christians
out loud and on purpose, I loved the mention of the t shirt that said, Jesus, save me from your
followers . I have prayed that prayer a few times myself.
Courage and Calling Gordon T. Smith
As I read the first two chapters I could see a pattern of learning. The things discussed about life
long learning is a soap box I speak from myself. The way things change so fast; if you want to be
effective in many areas of ministry today you have to constantly learn. What we are doing in the
class in a testament to the desire we have to be equipped for the task set before us.
The following chapter shared how life teaches lessons as well. Sometimes these have a much great
price and toll on us, but ever experience is a lesson to teach and a testimony to share.
As Smith closes out his book he shares some sound information concerning we we flourish in our
ministry. A calling is sacred, the preparation for that calling in ministry is essential, but if I cannot
find a place to exercise my calling in the body of Christ I am likened to the unfaithful servant who

The Use of and Elipse to Help Pool Player
Architecture, games, astronomy and medicine have something in common, even if it s not
obvious at first sight. What connects these different areas is called Conic Sections. Where do they
come from? Conic Sections are figures formed by the intersection of a plane and a right circular
cone. A conic section may be a circle, an ellipse, a parabola, or a hyperbola. They were first
discovered by a Greek mathematician, Menaechmus. He wanted to come up with a model that
showed all three different conic sections. With the help of Appollonius, they came up with the
Double Napped Cone , which clearly shows all three different shapes. In this project, I m going
to study and analyze specifically the ellipse. What is an ellipse? It s the set of points on a plane
whose sum of the distance of two fixed points is constant . The main parts on an ellipse are:
center, foci and vertices. The focus is the most important and the most used in real life. The foci
determine the shape of the ellipse, therefore the vertices, endpoints, major axis and minor axis.
The ellipse is found mostly in architecture and astronomy. For example, in London, the St. Paul
Cathedral has an elliptical form. Studies have proven that if two people stand at the two foci, and
one of them whispers, the other guy can hear it clearly. In astronomy, lots of people confuse
ellipse with eclipse; THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS! The ellipse is very
useful to astronomers because it defines the distance between the sun

A Study On Prevention And Treatment Of A Platelet...
Diagnosing prothrombotic diseases early and preventing its complications are significantly
essential. Therefore, this study sought to investigate whether MPV contain diagnostic value that
can prompt it to be utilized as a platelet activation marker and as marker of evidence of thrombotic
risk. Platelet activation is widely acknowledged to be an indicator of likely prothrombotic diseases.
Plateletsize, measured as MPV, has been shown to be an indicator of platelet function and is
positively linked to platelet activity indicators (Tsiara et al., 2003). The correlation between platelet
size and function can be attributed to the larger platelets that activated megakaryocyte produce in
the bone marrow likely to be more reactive and easier to aggregate than the normal platelets. Such
is because the larger platelets secret more ОІ thromboglobulin and serotonin, have denser granules,
generate more thromboxane in comparison to the smaller platelets while also showing more
activity than the smaller platelets (Dastjerdi et al., 2006). Therefore, the hyperactive large platelets
contribute considerably in speeding the formation and spread of intracoronary thrombus. This
causes acute thrombotic events to occur (Smith et al., 1999). Increased MPV levels are exhibited
to constitute an independent predictor for recurrent MI, ischemic vascular events or even death
caused by coronary artery disease (Wang et al., 2011; Chu et al., 2010; Huczek et al., 2005). Dogan
et al. (2012) linked MPV

Daniel Patrick Moynihan Definition Of Deviant Behavior
labeling someone as a deviant can have any major consequences for the individual who is
labeled. some of those consequences are once a person who has been labeled may start to
incorporate the stigma that goes along with it. this effort happens and can happen when a friend
in high school is drinking underage and by being associated with that person can have yourself
labeled as deviant even if you never commit a deviant act. other problems that come when
labeled is being put into a certain category which people will treat you different, look at you
different, and also think that you are going to commit other deviant acts which means they can
not trust you, and you tend to lose respect in society. Daniel Patrick Moynihan defined deviance
as a decline in quilty of life and of formerly unacceptable activities that are unqualified acceptance
and the as we condone such acts we make our nation worse. Moynihan is relevant to the concept of
moral order as being homeless is considered a deviant act and does not help to bind the larger

Planetary Nebulae Clouds
Nebula or the plural nebulae is derived from the Latin word for cloud(s), and is a term traditionally
used by astronomers to describe the vast gaseous structures which exist throughout the universe.
Nebulae now have been divided into five major categories due to their reflective and observational
characteristics, these being emission nebulae, reflection nebulae, dark nebulae, supernova remnants
and planetary nebulae.
In fact, the term planetary nebula is a misnomer as they have nothing to do with planets or
planetary systems as the name was derived by eighteenth century astronomers, William Herschel et
al, who due to the restrictions of observational technology available at that time i.e. small telescopes
first thought they either looked like the gas giant planets of our solar system or stars forming new
planetary systems.
Planetary nebulae are often given the connotation PN or PNe for the plural by astronomers and
exhibit the final stage of a star s life whose initial size is approximately between 1 and 8 solar

The Athletic Director Of A Budding High School
You are the athletic director of a budding high school. Currently there is a six and a half foot
junior with incredible athletic ability, earning national recognition. Weekly you are receiving phone
calls from newspaper and television reporters, as well as fielding questions from college coaches
and community sponsors. You see the potential in this student, and it leads to recognition, acclaim,
and possibly future financial gain. There is, however, one small problem; the student athlete is
currently failing three of six classes for the semester. As it stands, if the school year finishes
without change in the grades, your future of fame and fortune will be ineligible for the senior
season.
This is situation all too familiar in high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am interested in this topic because of my plan of influence on high school student athletes as an
athletic director. A problem of increasing concern with high school student athletes is preferential
treatment and altering the grades of exceptional athletes. Many problems and scandals are difficult
to identify because of the secrecy surrounding the situation. Grade altering is not one of those
problems. Grade altering stories are readily available in both local and national newspapers.
There is a growing problem where much of a school s popularity and funding stems from athletic
success. Even more, if a school has a student or group of students with great athletic ability, the
school will likely bend some of its rules to maintain the athletes image and eligibility.
In this study I intend to identify common administrative flaws within high schools, and identify a
strategy of grade altering corruption prevention.
All high school teachers and athletic directors should be familiar with the idea of grade altering,
and have a system in place to handle and correct any possible academic corruption. A precautionary
and preventative system can eliminate the possibility of grade altering, student athlete entitlement,
and negative media coverage of the school and athletic department.
Are there measures that can prevent the immoral and unethical practice of grade altering?
High schools do not receive much coverage from the

Relationship between China-Japan, China-Australia and...
In this section I will be detailing and comparing the relationships between China Japan, China
Australia, and China Venezuela. I am first going to start with the relationship between China and
Japan. I will begin with the time frame between the years of 1949 1969. During this time, China
sees Japan as a threat, which is not surprising because of Japan s assault against China in the 1890s
to 1920s, Japans brutal occupation of China in the 1930s and 1940s and Japan s role in America s
containment strategy against China. China counters Japan by forming a military alliance with the
Soviet Union in 1950. This alliance was indirectly directed at the United Statesbut primarily
directed against Japan. China tried to encourage Japan to have better relations by playing upon
Japanese war guilt and issues of Japanese behavior in the 1930s and 40s. This didn t work in the
political dimension of the relationship. China felt that better relations with Japan would be useful,
both politically and economically. But Japan would not normalize relations because of its close
relationship with the United States and the nationalists. On the economic front, things were
different, as trade started to grow. The countries are so close to one another that it made sense.
Meanwhile, Japan is still recovering from the war, but is recovering rapidly and becomes an
important potential partner for China. In the 1960s the forming of a trade relationship began. The
two countries assign some memorandums of

Descriptive Essay About Disneyland
Would you like to come to a place where dream come true, a place where you can live in your very
own fairytale, a place called...Disneyland! My Papa said with a grin that reached all the way to his
ears on both sides.
I was silent I had no words, all I could ever dream about at this age was going to Disneyland, and
then I finally had the chance of going!
Since I hadn t given an answer my Papa said, Well if you don t want to go we could always still go
to Build a Bear Workshop, it s your choice...
It was the easiest choice I ever had to make, and without even thinking I blurted out, OBVIOUSLY
DISNEYLAND ARE YOU CRAZY!?!
Driving to Disneyland felt like it took a lifetime, and after waiting ALL those hours we stopped but

While arriving, the first thing that I saw was Cinderella s castle. It was the most magical
building I could ve ever dreamed I would walk through. It was breathtaking, all of it from the
gleaming golden castle tops to the royal blue roofs. So many thoughts were running through my
head: Is this true? Am I really here?! And the answer was YES, I was actually at Disneyland,
where dreams came true, where I met my favorite princesses, where I could be a princess.
But it was night time so we had to spend the night at a hotel. But this wasn t just any ordinary

Grecian Influence
The Romans took from the Greeks the three orders of architecture, Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian,
based on different forms of column and the capital which surmounted it, and added a hybrid of their
own, known as Composite. (The Romans, n.d.) It is not a secret the Romans admired and took on
Greek culture, but the field of architecture the Romans created their own style. That is not to say
the Composite is free of Grecian influence as the influence from the Corinthian style is doubtless
present in the columns. Nevertheless, creating the Composite does not diminish the magnificence
in the Greek s three renown architecture styles. In any case, Grecian Parthenon and Roman
Pantheon have proofs of culture s influence on art. Pericles... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Indeed, even the name the Pantheon refers to many or 12 gods, undoubtedly Grecian in origin. The
service of foreign gods did not end with Greece, and through propaganda of gods like Serapis, a half
Egyptian half Greco god, to even political means the necessity the Roman people had for religion is
undeniable. While many believe the Greeks and the Romans to serve the same gods, the Romans
were mixing and making them their own proving they only could construct the Pantheon in the
same manner. As I expressed before, the Grecian culture influenced the Romans, and in turn the
Romans made something completely their own, the Composite. The Pantheon shows its order
through the Composite s classic Corinthian columns, and Roman circular floor plan. The Pantheon
may have an unusual floor scheme as a rectangle and circle merge together to create it, but this
shape facilitates the element of symmetry. The Pantheon took very balanced, and the dome and
triangular roof produce the element of variation. Globally, professionals consider the Pantheon one
of the best preserved buildings of all time. While there are many factors, the name of many gods

How Full Is Your Bucket Summary
How Full is Your Bucket: Chapters 4 5 Reflection
After reading the fourth and fifth chapter of How Full is your Bucket?, there are some things that
stood out, I disagree with, I agree with, and I can use these ideas in ASB. This is my response and
thoughts on that.
There were many things that were surprising and were astonishing to me. One of those things was
that negativity and positivity could be just genetic. I have never considered that it could be that
someone is naturally positive or negative. Another thing that I am startled from is that the author of
this book, Tom Rath, really thinks about what would fill Don s bucket to the greatest as a birthday
present. This was a personal story of bucket filling affected him in his life. I was very touched
when Don starts tearing up from the author s present. I was surprised once more when the part with

In my point of view I don t think that anyone s mom in any household has ever started a
conversation after school by being negative to their child. Maybe it was because that was some
time ago or the author lived in a place where that was usual, but to me this was queer and
unusual. This is the part that really shocked me. I really felt bad when I read that the author was
diagnosed with the Hippel Lindau disease, which was the disease which made tumors grow in the
body with no signs in advance. He was facing a major problem, but instead he was proactive and
thought it as a good motivation to keep up physical strength. That really surprised me that he was
such a positive person even though he faced a major problem that most did not have

Weather Symbolism In The Great Gatsby
Rain, heat, fog, the weather had an immense role in both the setting and symbolically. Like
Thomas Foster stated, weather is never just weather. It s never just rain. And that goes for snow,
sun, warmth, cold, and probably sleet. (Fos) Weather in The Great Gatsby is enriched with
meaning and impact to the novel and one example being when Gatsby and Daisy met again after
five years. The morning before Gatsby and Daisy were going to meet, after Nick secretly
arranged for Daisy to have tea with Gatsby in his house, Gatsby send for Nick s lawn to be
mowed and for a greenhouse to be set up in his Nick s house. At two minutes for four (Fit) Daisy
arrived and it was raining and before Daisy entered the house Gatsby went out through the back...

Additionally, another weather forecast that had an impact was the mist that formed in the bay that
divided Gatsby s and Daisy s houses. On the day that Gatsby and Daisy reunited and they and
Nick went on a tour of Gatsby house, they all went to the dock and Gatsby stated If it wasn t for
the mist we could see your home across the bay (Fit), You always have a green light that burns
all night at the end of your dock (Fit). The green light represents Gatsby s dreams he haves for
his future and having Daisy is one of them, so when the mist/fog is dividing his house and Daisy s
house the readers will probably think that it represents that because Daisy is with him, Gatsby
reached his green light. Thomas Foster stated, Fog, for instance. It almost always signals some sort
of confusion (Fos), and with that being said the mist covering the green light at the end of Daisy s
dock represents confusion within Gatsby because even though Daisy is next to him at the time, he
knows that she is still not truly his.
Furthermore, the big conflict, the climax happens on one of the hottest days the characters
experienced in the novel and there is a purpose for that. The heat oppressive, the sun destructive
(Fos), said Thomas Foster. On the day that Gatsby and Daisy where going to tell Tom that they
wanted to be together, that s when Daisy started to complaining and saying that it s so hot (Fit) on
the verge of tears (Fit) and that they shall all go to town, they got in

Alcatraz was a prison, that was in use from 1934 to 1963. It housed some of the worldВґs most

the attempted escapes from Alcatraz.
In 1933, the U.S. Army relinquished control of the island of Alcatraz to the U.S. Justice Department

criminal population [that was] too difficult or dangerous to be handled by other U.S. penitentiaries

was thought to be impossible (History.com). Alcatraz was made more secure than it already was to

The Mona Lisa By Leonardo Da Vinci
One of the world s most famous paintings is the Mona Lisa. It was created by the Renaissance s
most highly praised artist, Leonardo da Vinci, in the years 1503 to 1506. Leonardo worked on
this painting while he lived in Florence, Italy, and it is made using oil paints on a poplar wood
panel. The painting depicts, simply, a woman in front of an expansive landscape of rocky hills,
valleys, mountains, and bodies of water. It was discovered in King Francis I s royal collection,
but this is no surprise considering that Leonardo worked for him in France from 1516 up until
Leonardo s death in 1519. It was transported to the Louvre, which is a museum in Paris, France.
The painting was stolen in 1911 by a widely known Italian art thief named Vincenzo Peruggio. It
was recovered two years later and returned to the Louvre, where it still resides today. In 1951, the
panel it was painted on showed signs of warping, and so a wooden frame was added to the piece, as
well as braces in 1970. Dovetails were also a necessity in preserving the work, due to a crack that
had started to spread. As of 2012, the value of the painting sits at $760 million. Leonardo used
sfumato to create the fine shading of Mona Lisas clothes and hair, as well as using it to
compliment the landscape behind her. Upon closer inspection, one can see that she does not have
any eyebrows. There are multiple theories for this, including Leonardo s decision to not give her

ADHD And Odd Case Study
The main focus of the field placement was on student behaviour in the classroom and how students
with disabilities may cause distractions to the class for several reasons. Evidently, the relationship
between ADHD and ODD contribute to a student s inability to be on task and demonstrate
antisocial behaviour (Matthys and Lochman, 2017, p.3; Hamilton and Armando, p.864). The
implications of ODD on the student s educationare significant due to the student s reaction to
positive behavioural management techniques may be met with uncertainty and destructiveness
(NDCO, 2010, p.12). In addition, the students are examined to be argumentative and defiant , they

Therefore, Marcus is increasingly aggressive towards figures that are regarded as authoritarian and

behavioral problems (Hamilton and Armando, 2008, p.863). As a result, students that possess both
disorders tend to be isolated from their peers and are severely disadvantaged in their academic
achievements (Hamilton and Armando, 2008, p.863).
In an attempt to alleviate symptoms of ADHD and ODD, students that have these disorders are
treated with drugs that contain Lisdexamfetamine dimesylate (LDX) and the most popular known
clinical drug that contains LDX is VyvanseВ® (Rowley et al., 2012, p.1064). Although this drug
is shown to be effective in suppressing student s aggression and disobedience in the classroom,
their negative side effects can impede on providing inclusive education due to loss of focus as a
result of anorexia, insomnia, nausea and exacerbation of motor tics (Rowley et al., 2012, p.1065).
The medicine is regarded as highly effective for students with ADHD and ODD disorders and is
durable for over 12 hours (Roweley et al., 2012, p.1065). Consequently, the use of this medication
is still negative as it can create discomfort for the student that is taking LDX. The effects of LDX in
motor tics are evident as Marcus demonstrates the uncontrollable muscle spasms during lessons.

an economic downfall to put them in the impoverished state they are facing today?
Most of Detroit s economic downfall was because of the reliance on a single industry, which at the

White Vs. Board Of Education Essay
There are many cases in history that have a racial element like segregation to it. One of the most
important, influential, and more well known court cases that dealt with segregation was Brown
vs Board of Education of Topeka. It is commonly understood that Brown vs Board of Education
dealt with a little girl suing because she wanted to attend an all white school in her
neighborhood. In reality, the case was far more complex than that. In December, 1952, the U.S.
Supreme Court had on its docket cases from Kansas, Delaware, the District of Colombia, South
Carolina, and Virginia, all of which challenged the constitutionality of racial segregation in public
schools (Citation Here). The U.S. Supreme Court consolidated the five court cases into one and
gave it the name that is well known, Brown vs the Board of Education. This case would lead the
way in challenging segregation in United States school systems and creating and education system
that was more equal for minorities. In Delaware there were two separate cases that had similar
issues. The first case was Belton vs Gebhart, and that dealt with parents being forced to send their
children to a run down segregated high school away from their neighborhood, rather than an all
white school that was in their community. The other case, Bulah vs Gebhart, was brought forward
by a parent who was trying to get bus transportation for the black children in her town. Her main

make sure he is okay before the blizzard. Meanwhile John s wife Ann is at home with their young

sacrifice, isolation, and aging. In the short story the reader finds the story set in the middle of
winter on the Canadian prairieas a blizzard is brewing. John, a farmer, plans to check on his aging

The Death Of Ivan Ilyich By Leo Tolstoy
To make a good story it should start with an essential list of components. The opening situation,
conflict, complication, climax, suspense, denouement, and then conclusion. Good authors and
writers sometimes mix up these ingredients and add some spice. This is very much the case in The
Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy
Opening Situation
Ivan Ilych s death notification in the Gazette and funeral then told the story of Ivan s life.
The main theme of the story is Ivan s Ilynch s battle with an illness and then his death, and with
this Leo Tolstoy setups up the story. Tolstoy reveals to us Ivan s entire life story up to the point
when he becomes sick. We become acquainted with Ivan s, desires and habits, his friends and
family, and his situation. The beginning chapter even though it theoretically happens after he
has already passed away also aids the setup. It provides us a more telling picture of what the people
in Ivan s social circle are like. We also get a better sense of what Ivan himself was like before he
became ill, recognizing Peter Ivanovich and his friends are similar to how Ivan used to be.
Complication
The doctors procedures didn t work. He s becoming worried that his condition might has been
getting worse since the beginning, but it takes a bit of time for it to hit him that he might just die.
This takes place in a powerful moment of realization, when Ivan stops thinking of his illness in
medical way and starts thinking about it in terms of

Observing Greg s Struggle In A Baseball Team
For this first project we were given a situation involving our third basemen Greg. Greg is
currently struggling in game situation after showing amazing strides in practice which got him
his starting role on our respective baseball team. We are currently still in the middle of the
season and I have ruled out the possibility that he mays till be a little rusty from the offseason
and have decided to dwell deeper into Greg s situation. I plan on as the coach focusing on his
traits and states that might cause our starting third basement to not show his full skill level during
game day. This will take some time since Greg has just moved from a different school district and
is his first year playing for our team. Let s start out by looking at practice... Show more content on

When looking at Greg s motivation we can look at some of the basic attribution categories that
contain stability, locus of causality, and locus of control (Gould Weinberg 63). We will have to
look at his stable, unstable, internal, external, and what Greg can and cannot control. We know
from practice that Greg is a very talented player, and we know he values all competition as a
challenge no matter the skill level of the opposing team. He also possess a great work ethic that
contributes to the positive view of this theory. Looking at what the negatives are of this theory he
might not be use to the coaches quite yet, being far away from the teammates he grew up with.
Now we switch to the final step in the process in motivating him to do better on the field and help

Adjacency Paper
Humans have a fundamental need to belong and have social relationships, and therefore form
groups to fulfill these basic human needs (Baumeister

Leary, 1995). The tendency to
gravitate to similar individuals when building social ties is a well known feature of human
behaviour, and is referred to as homophily (McPherson et al., 2001). It is possible that the tendency
for homophily within populations, particularly the perception of physical similarity, influences
seating preference more frequently than expected by chance in day to day social interactions
(Mackinnon, Jordan, Wilson, 2011). This increases the chances of interacting with similar others
and decreases the chances of interacting with dissimilar others simply based on proximity.... Show

This means that the converse is true: if not sitting beside women, men must be sitting beside
other men, or alone entirely, which will lead to a positive index of adjacency. The index of

only that they tend to avoid sitting beside each other. Thus, if my hypotheses are supported, the
index of adjacency scores will be less than zero, overall. A two tailed t tests, comparing the mean

Schools have very different policy s when it comes to what the 1st amendment says. 2 cases are
proof of this, Tinker vs Des Moines is a case where a simple armband protesting the Vietnam war

things that are a distracting or disruptive to school activity. A similar case to this is Bethel school

Workers Comp Insurance Case Study
4 Situations Where You Could Not Collect Workers Comp
The purpose of workers comp is to give financial protection to employees that become injured
while working for their employer. Unfortunately, not all employees are eligible to receive workers
comp. Be aware of these situations where you would not receive benefits.
When An Employer Does Not Have Workers Comp Insurance
Some employers are not required to purchase workers comp insurance. This is because each state
has their own laws concerning which businesses must purchase the insurance.
For instance, in the state of New York, a small partnership owned by one or two people doesn t
need to purchase workers comp insurance. In North Carolina, a business is only required to have
workers comp insurance if there are at least 3 employees, and at least 10 employees if it is an

where the injury occurred, as long as they were performing a function of their job while receiving a
federal government paycheck. The compensation act also covers any occupational diseases that are
sustained over multiple days or shifts.
When You Are Employed As A Harbor or Longshore Worker
There are some occupations that also have their own compensation acts, such as those that are
employed as a longshore or harbor worker. This covers employees that are responsible for
loading, offloading, and securing ships, as well as ship builders. If injured on the job, the
compensation act has their own process for receiving benefits that would make you ineligible for
workers comp.
Keep in mind that you may work in that job field, but still qualify for workers comp benefits. This
includes office workers that are not doing the manual labor.
If you have questions about a workers comp case, speak with a lawyer in your area for a

Charlie shares the whole experimental experience with Algernon and Charlie discovers his own
future through Algernon. However when Charlie falls intellectually we see the strength of
friendship at the end of the novel and Charlie s last words are put some flowers on Algernon s
grave in the bak yard (Keyes, 311). This shows that Carlie understood the true meaning friendship,
that it can take place between anyone and anything as long as it s unconditional.

Imaginary Revolution
In a time of fear, rebellion and possible revolution, drastic actions must be taken to ensure the
stability and safety of a country. Therefore the authorities were justified in their actions, as drastic
as they may have been. Order and stability is the most important element in a country. Without a
set of guidelines and rules, the foundations begins to crack, and it no longer is a sovereign
country, but just a wasteland of rioters and people doing whatever they feel is necessary. There is
not always a guarantee that a country will come with a positive outcome when revolutionary
actions are taken, like Russiawas. There is possibility for both the collapse of government, the fall
of economy, as well as a high risk of danger. To prevent this, the government had to take action, not
to kill a man and injure innocent civilians, but to prove a point. A point that outbreak in a violent

The profiteering and change of resource output drastically affected the economy of Canada after
the war. Inflation was at an all time high, and business men were forced to fire their workers in
factories where war goods were being produced, as they no longer served a purpose. There is
very little the government can do to prevent capitalism, as you have a large majority of the
general public who support it, as well as entire parties who follow its ways. To prevent capitalism,
work rights have to be put in place, as well as taxes on those who make the greatest outcome. This
of course happened later on, which stabilized the country s economy. The government must put
restrictions on the abilities the factory owners have to prevent unjustified firing and treatment, and
payment in order to thin the wage gap and increase the quality of life in

Essay On Sanford Gragg
My great grandfather, Sanford Robert Gragg, was an extraordinary man. Although I never had the
privilege to meet him, the stories that have been told about his life urge me to learn more about
how he lived and the unique things he did during his life. My great grandfather did some pretty
amazing things during his life and some of the facts about his life astound me.
January 25, 1899, under Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina, Sanford was born. He was
the son of Luther Burgess Gragg and Mary Josephine Crump Chester. My pawpaw Gragg was a
farmer and raised all kinds of farm animals. He also loved to garden. Sanford went to an all boy s
school for farming in Asheville where he learned how to garden and work on a farm. Every
morning my great grandfather would have to build a fire to heat the school. He never learned how
to read and could not write much other than his own name. However, he was a very smart man.

Relationships are very important in a good life. A great deal of happinesscan be acquired through
friends and family. For those who are unfortunate enough to be deprived of a family can
substitute it with friends or respective spouses. If you are happy, you will have more friends.
The more friends you have, the happier you will be. If you are unhappy, people may not want to
be affected by your negativity and would prefer to stay away from you. Having no friends can
make your life difficult and negative. Good friends may help your life last longer, too, according
to an Australian study. Conducted by the Centre for Ageing Studies at Flinders University, the
study followed nearly 1,500 older people for 10 years. It found that those who had a large network
of friends outlived those with the fewest friends by 22%. When you are happy, positivity through
that happiness gives you a lot of emotional and psychological strength. You feel like you have the

Hadoop is a great data storage choice and Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) or Hive is
often used to store transactional data in its raw state. The map reduce processing supported by
these Hadoop frameworks can deliver great performance, but it does not support the same
specialized query optimization that mature relational database technologies do. Improving query

Hadoop excels with managing and processing file based data, especially when the data is
voluminous in the extreme and the data would not benefit from transformation and loading into a

Using the right combination of Hadoop products and the other platforms can be sensational in
terms of analytics because it has the capacity to analyze analysis of petabytes of Web log data in
large Internet firms, and now is being applied to similar analytic applications involving call detail
records in telecommunications, XML documents in supply chain industries (retail and
manufacturing), unstructured claims documents in insurance, sessionized spatial data in logistics,

Teens and Drinking Essay
Whether it s potty training, learning to ride a bike, learning to tie shoes, learning to drive a car,

it all by myself ? How many times are the previous said whenever the maturity level does not
correspond to it? Foundations have to be laid before a person can go out alone. A baby cannot be
potty trained before they even know how to walk. A child cannot ride a bike without first learning
with training wheels and practice. A person cannot tie their shoes without the concept of making a

With the influence of alcohol and the pressures of others it could lead to more teen pregnancy
which might lead to more abortions or even more children with broken homes and abuse. The
rate of suicide will only go up because people will become depressed by the shame of the things
they did while under the influence. Teens are flaky and most are not consistent on what they
want to do with their lives. They are still discovering who they are and who they want to be. If
they drink, it could ruin their whole future in one way or another. Teenagers should not be
allowed to drink for they are not experienced with driving and do not know how alcohol will
affect them. Some say that since Europe has a low drinking age, the U.S. should follow but the
difference between the U.S. and European drinking laws are that Europeans have a higher age
for when teens can drive. Teens may be allowed to drink at 14, 15, or even 16 but they are not
allowed to get their license until they are 18, teens in America can get their license at 16. If the
drinking age was lowered to 18 that gives them only two years experience driving and so they are
not aware of what alcohol can do to their systems. American teens are thus much more likely to
drive under the influence of alcohol if the drinking age were lowered (ProCon, 2008). States such
as Massachusetts, Michigan, and Maine that have lowered that drinking age had an increase in
alcohol related collisions among the 18 to

Hell. The four lettered word that trembles in the throats of men and children alike; The images of
suffering, flame pits and blood, the smell of burning flesh, the shrieking of those who have fallen
from grace. For centuries man has sought out ways to cleanse his soul, to repent for his sins and
possibly secure his passage into paradise, all evoked by the fear of eternal damnation and pain. The
early 20th centuryphilosopher and existentialist writer Jean Paul Sartresaw life as an endless realm
of suffering and a complete void of nothingness. His pessimistic ideals of life followed through to
his beliefs on death, as death for him was a final nothingness. If death was a final nothingness,

Common in all religions, sin exists almost as a written law. For Christians it exists in the Ten
Commandments, the seven deadly sins. For Buddhists, it is the crimes against karma. Sartre,
however, does not address what prerequisites his hell contains. By conventional standards, its seems
that his characters rightfully deserve to be placed in hell.
While Estelle s hands were tarnished with the murder of her own baby, both Garcin and Inez are
indirectly responsible for the death of those close to them. For Sartre, all three characters are
pathetic examples of humankind. Believing that human beings can never hope to understand why
they are here, Sartre, like many existentialists, believes that each individual must choose a goal and
follow it with passionate conviction, aware of the certainty of death and the ultimate
meaninglessness of one s life. Nonetheless, Estelle, Garcin and Inez all exist with no real purpose
and therefore are damned to suffer not only in their life, but their afterlife.
Garcin may have been the closest to following a goal, but his act of fleeing from revolution and
his cowardly death shows that he has no real passion. Estelle is the most superficial of the group,
the one with least conviction. She simply uses people to her pleasure and herself as the object of
their desire. Inez sees herself as a quot;damned bitch quot; and believes that she is in fact damned
and belongs in hell.

open source intelligence (OSINT), with a view to determining whether the collection methods can
be ranked in terms of importance. To this end, this essay will describe SIGINT and OSINT, with a
focus on outlining the relative advantages and disadvantages of each method. It will be shown that
any attempt to rank collection methods in terms of their importance is only productive insofar as it

  • 2. Issues of Racial Identity during the Harlem Renaissance Essay The early 1900s was a very challenging time for Negroes especially young women who developed issues in regards to their identities. Their concerns stemmed from their skin colors. Either they were fair skinned due mixed heritage or just dark skinned. Young African American women experienced issues with racial identity which caused them to be in a constant struggle that prohibits them from loving themselves and the skin they are in. The purpose of this paper is to examine those issues in the context of selected creative literature. I will be discussing the various aspects of them and to aid in my analysis, I will be utilizing the works of Nella Larsen from The Norton Anthology of African AmericanLiterature, Jessie Bennett Redmond Fauset,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Harlem Renaissance produced a myriad of talented writers. These writers included Nella Larsen, Jessie Redmond Fauset, and Walter Thurman who told of the struggles with identity in their writings. According to Wikipedia, she lived in Denmark for a few years and attended Fisk University before settling in Harlem, where she worked as a nurse and later becoming a librarian. She published her highly successful novel Quicksand in 1928. Another popular writer of the Harlem Renaissance was Jessie Redmond Fauset. • 3. On Being Brought From Africa To America Summary The Clever Meaning: Phillis Wheatley s On Being Brought from Africa to America *Phillis Wheatley s On Being Brought from Africa to America is a cleverly ironic and heavily sarcastic poem on Phillis wheatley s journey through her time in slavery. Written in a AABBCCDD rhyme scheme which creates a focus on each couplet. Each rhyme couplet in On Being Brought from Africato America is used to show the irony forced on her and her race. *For example, in the first couplet Phillis stats how she was brought from Pagan lands. The way the line is written it is easy to assume she is referring to her history. However, Phillis Wheatleyuses the word brought instead of bought, referring to the transformation from Pagan to Christianity and not slavery.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This line shows her happiness of being in America, but her happiness is based on that she found divine mercy in Christianity, and God. Phillis Wheatley even refers in the second half of the couplet that her life before she was brought to America as benighted . Benighted in the means of being overtaken by sin and darkness. The imagery of darkness symbolized here by the word benighted is very intentional. Being well aware that the darkness of her skin is an excuse for white people to judge her moral character. *In the second couplet; That there s a God, that there s a Saviour too: Once I redemption neither sought nor knew. Phillis dissociate the moral darkness from her physical appearance. She no longer believes in people s pagan religion. She now believes in God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Even though, she states that to call her sinful for the life she once lived is pointless. She never sought redemption in Christianity because she never knew she had sinned. The irony of this couple is when it is compared to the first. For instance, In the time slaves were seen as innately ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is the National Suicide Helpline, and is an immediate resource to someone in crisis. Several centers around the United States maintain the helpline and provided suicide related services to their community. One of the centers in Colorado is Pueblo SuicidePrevention Center. The agency has been working with suicide related issues for over forty years and has many accomplishments. The programs that provide these services at PSPC include operating a 24 hour suicide helpline, offering a support group for people who have lost a loved one to suicide, providing licensed professional counseling, and educating the community. Most of these services are provided to the people in Pueblo, however, the helpline serves all of the people in Colorado. Pueblo Suicide Prevention Center was established on September 8, 1969 by twenty three community members including some from Colorado Mental Health Institute and other leaders in Pueblo. The Colorado Mental Health Institute identified the need for an intervention system that would offer services to high risk, crisis situations that would be immediate and easily accessible. • 5. Our Society Is The Waste Of Money In an increasingly accessible world, people often take material objects for granted. As technology progresses, people become obsessed with obtaining newer products. Every time Apple announces a new product, everyone eagerly awaits its release. One of these products is the iPhone. Unfortunately, the iPhone that symbolizes convenient communication and social progress also represents the material obsession that is a characteristic of contemporary society. Even though there are positive and negative connotations of materialistic obsession, ultimately, the symbol of the iPhone represents the distressing side of our society. One of the most prevalent issues in our society is the waste of money. The iPhone became the icon, the trend that everyone needs to get their hands on, no matter the cost. People used to replace their phones only when they were damaged, but now they replace them for no reason except the desire for something new. The cheapest price for a new iPhone 7 with 32GB is $649 plus tax. This means that if people wants more gigabytes or accessories, the price would be significantly higher. Even though iPhones are useful, the money spent on unnecessary replacements is wasteful. According to CNN, a Chinese billionaire s son, Wang Sicong purchased eight iPhone 7 handsets for his dog on the day of the release (Griffiths). He has taken the lavish spending of money to a new level. In fact, this is not the first time he wastefully spent money. Wang Sicong previously ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay On Race Cars Half arsed, boring, stupid, whatever you labelled last weekend s event, with numbers down, I think most will agree there was plenty of room for improvement! Heading into the weekend deep down I knew, like many, that the International SuperSprint format was not going to produce the best racing. I accepted that, but still purchased tickets and went along for my annual Supercars trip which generally becomes a highlight of my year. This time I don t feel like it will be the highlight past years became. For a start the four 100km sprint races were all about qualifying and getting the car off the line, then it was a matter of watching race cars circulate for 35 laps. This in itself is a very bad thing! Motorsport often has the stereotype of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The off track package is just as important as on the on track stuff, and a big part of the off track package is merchandise. The merchandise at this year s event was shocking. Four team s set up shop with very limited stock. Triple Eight and HRT combined to have a decent display and storefront while GRM had a few fold out tables piled with shirts and PRA seemingly left most of their stock behind. Merchandise is a highlight of the event for the diehard fans who want to show off their support for their drivers and teams but unfortunately, most were left disappointed. I purposely packed only one additional shirt for Friday because I planned on buying some shirts, but there were none! Posters were also a rarity at this year s event, with anyone wanting signatures ending up with 10 or so event promo posters signed by different drivers because the lack of posters and merchandise meant that s all there was to sign. Young fans (and older ones) love collecting the new posters each year and the only way that is going to happen this year is a bit of searching on Ebay. Again, merchandise is part of the Supercars product and why teams aren t required to take their merch with them to every round is something that needs to be looked out. Yes, there is a cost, but surely it s something that could be subsidised by Supercars and/or the promoters? The merchandise alley has also degraded in quality with outside vendors lacking in numbers and the addition of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Week Three Textbook Reflection Week Three Textbook Reflection The Call Os Guinness In my reflection of The Call this week, if I were to sum it up in one word it would be responsibility . If a call is to have any legitimacy it has to be saturated in integrity; integrity cannot exist unless we are diligent in the responsibilities of that call. Once your journey begins you become more and more visible to those around you; family, work mates, church members, and neighbors. If we are to have any influence in the lives of those we live among and mission, we MUST be responsible ministers. We cannot live in fear of messing up but we should live as though it matters if we do. If mistakes are or something does not turn out as planned, if we deal with it as responsible leaders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first was the story of Arthur F Burns when asked to pray at the informal White house prayer group, it was a classic. In this chapter, as he dealt with the responsibly we have to be Christians out loud and on purpose, I loved the mention of the t shirt that said, Jesus, save me from your followers . I have prayed that prayer a few times myself. Courage and Calling Gordon T. Smith As I read the first two chapters I could see a pattern of learning. The things discussed about life long learning is a soap box I speak from myself. The way things change so fast; if you want to be effective in many areas of ministry today you have to constantly learn. What we are doing in the class in a testament to the desire we have to be equipped for the task set before us. The following chapter shared how life teaches lessons as well. Sometimes these have a much great price and toll on us, but ever experience is a lesson to teach and a testimony to share. As Smith closes out his book he shares some sound information concerning we we flourish in our ministry. A calling is sacred, the preparation for that calling in ministry is essential, but if I cannot find a place to exercise my calling in the body of Christ I am likened to the unfaithful servant who buried his ... • 14. The Use of and Elipse to Help Pool Player Architecture, games, astronomy and medicine have something in common, even if it s not obvious at first sight. What connects these different areas is called Conic Sections. Where do they come from? Conic Sections are figures formed by the intersection of a plane and a right circular cone. A conic section may be a circle, an ellipse, a parabola, or a hyperbola. They were first discovered by a Greek mathematician, Menaechmus. He wanted to come up with a model that showed all three different conic sections. With the help of Appollonius, they came up with the Double Napped Cone , which clearly shows all three different shapes. In this project, I m going to study and analyze specifically the ellipse. What is an ellipse? It s the set of points on a plane whose sum of the distance of two fixed points is constant . The main parts on an ellipse are: center, foci and vertices. The focus is the most important and the most used in real life. The foci determine the shape of the ellipse, therefore the vertices, endpoints, major axis and minor axis. The ellipse is found mostly in architecture and astronomy. For example, in London, the St. Paul Cathedral has an elliptical form. Studies have proven that if two people stand at the two foci, and one of them whispers, the other guy can hear it clearly. In astronomy, lots of people confuse ellipse with eclipse; THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS! The ellipse is very useful to astronomers because it defines the distance between the sun ... • 17. A Study On Prevention And Treatment Of A Platelet... Diagnosing prothrombotic diseases early and preventing its complications are significantly essential. Therefore, this study sought to investigate whether MPV contain diagnostic value that can prompt it to be utilized as a platelet activation marker and as marker of evidence of thrombotic risk. Platelet activation is widely acknowledged to be an indicator of likely prothrombotic diseases. Plateletsize, measured as MPV, has been shown to be an indicator of platelet function and is positively linked to platelet activity indicators (Tsiara et al., 2003). The correlation between platelet size and function can be attributed to the larger platelets that activated megakaryocyte produce in the bone marrow likely to be more reactive and easier to aggregate than the normal platelets. Such is because the larger platelets secret more ОІ thromboglobulin and serotonin, have denser granules, generate more thromboxane in comparison to the smaller platelets while also showing more activity than the smaller platelets (Dastjerdi et al., 2006). Therefore, the hyperactive large platelets contribute considerably in speeding the formation and spread of intracoronary thrombus. This causes acute thrombotic events to occur (Smith et al., 1999). Increased MPV levels are exhibited to constitute an independent predictor for recurrent MI, ischemic vascular events or even death caused by coronary artery disease (Wang et al., 2011; Chu et al., 2010; Huczek et al., 2005). • 20. Planetary Nebulae Clouds Nebula or the plural nebulae is derived from the Latin word for cloud(s), and is a term traditionally used by astronomers to describe the vast gaseous structures which exist throughout the universe. Nebulae now have been divided into five major categories due to their reflective and observational characteristics, these being emission nebulae, reflection nebulae, dark nebulae, supernova remnants and planetary nebulae. In fact, the term planetary nebula is a misnomer as they have nothing to do with planets or planetary systems as the name was derived by eighteenth century astronomers, William Herschel et al, who due to the restrictions of observational technology available at that time i.e. small telescopes first thought they either looked like the gas giant planets of our solar system or stars forming new planetary systems. Planetary nebulae are often given the connotation PN or PNe for the plural by astronomers and exhibit the final stage of a star s life whose initial size is approximately between 1 and 8 solar masses, where the unused gases and elements left from nuclear fusion are blown away from the remaining core producing a luminous colourful halo around it. These phenomena can be very short lived in astronomical terms, possibly just tens of thousands of years. • 23. Relationship between China-Japan, China-Australia and... In this section I will be detailing and comparing the relationships between China Japan, China Australia, and China Venezuela. I am first going to start with the relationship between China and Japan. I will begin with the time frame between the years of 1949 1969. During this time, China sees Japan as a threat, which is not surprising because of Japan s assault against China in the 1890s to 1920s, Japans brutal occupation of China in the 1930s and 1940s and Japan s role in America s containment strategy against China. China counters Japan by forming a military alliance with the Soviet Union in 1950. This alliance was indirectly directed at the United Statesbut primarily directed against Japan. China tried to encourage Japan to have better relations by playing upon Japanese war guilt and issues of Japanese behavior in the 1930s and 40s. This didn t work in the political dimension of the relationship. China felt that better relations with Japan would be useful, both politically and economically. But Japan would not normalize relations because of its close relationship with the United States and the nationalists. On the economic front, things were different, as trade started to grow. The countries are so close to one another that it made sense. Meanwhile, Japan is still recovering from the war, but is recovering rapidly and becomes an important potential partner for China. The service of foreign gods did not end with Greece, and through propaganda of gods like Serapis, a half Egyptian half Greco god, to even political means the necessity the Roman people had for religion is undeniable. While many believe the Greeks and the Romans to serve the same gods, the Romans were mixing and making them their own proving they only could construct the Pantheon in the same manner. As I expressed before, the Grecian culture influenced the Romans, and in turn the Romans made something completely their own, the Composite. • 32. The Mona Lisa By Leonardo Da Vinci One of the world s most famous paintings is the Mona Lisa. It was created by the Renaissance s most highly praised artist, Leonardo da Vinci, in the years 1503 to 1506. Leonardo worked on this painting while he lived in Florence, Italy, and it is made using oil paints on a poplar wood panel. The painting depicts, simply, a woman in front of an expansive landscape of rocky hills, valleys, mountains, and bodies of water. It was discovered in King Francis I s royal collection, but this is no surprise considering that Leonardo worked for him in France from 1516 up until Leonardo s death in 1519. It was transported to the Louvre, which is a museum in Paris, France. The painting was stolen in 1911 by a widely known Italian art thief named Vincenzo Peruggio. It was recovered two years later and returned to the Louvre, where it still resides today. In 1951, the panel it was painted on showed signs of warping, and so a wooden frame was added to the piece, as well as braces in 1970. Dovetails were also a necessity in preserving the work, due to a crack that had started to spread. As of 2012, the value of the painting sits at $760 million. Leonardo used sfumato to create the fine shading of Mona Lisas clothes and hair, as well as using it to compliment the landscape behind her. Upon closer inspection, one can see that she does not have any eyebrows. One of the most important, influential, and more well known court cases that dealt with segregation was Brown vs Board of Education of Topeka. It is commonly understood that Brown vs Board of Education dealt with a little girl suing because she wanted to attend an all white school in her neighborhood. In reality, the case was far more complex than that. In December, 1952, the U.S. Supreme Court had on its docket cases from Kansas, Delaware, the District of Colombia, South Carolina, and Virginia, all of which challenged the constitutionality of racial segregation in public schools (Citation Here). The U.S. Supreme Court consolidated the five court cases into one and gave it the name that is well known, Brown vs the Board of Education. This case would lead the way in challenging segregation in United States school systems and creating and education system that was more equal for minorities. In Delaware there were two separate cases that had similar issues. The first case was Belton vs Gebhart, and that dealt with parents being forced to send their children to a run down segregated high school away from their neighborhood, rather than an all white school that was in their community. Teens and Drinking Essay Whether it s potty training, learning to ride a bike, learning to tie shoes, learning to drive a car, getting a first job, etc, how many times in people s lives do they say I m a big kid now, I can do it all by myself ? How many times are the previous said whenever the maturity level does not correspond to it? Foundations have to be laid before a person can go out alone. A baby cannot be potty trained before they even know how to walk. A child cannot ride a bike without first learning with training wheels and practice. A person cannot tie their shoes without the concept of making a knot. Though teenagers may say that they are a big kid now and should be allowed to drink they do not understand the concepts of what drinking does to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the influence of alcohol and the pressures of others it could lead to more teen pregnancy which might lead to more abortions or even more children with broken homes and abuse. The rate of suicide will only go up because people will become depressed by the shame of the things they did while under the influence. Teens are flaky and most are not consistent on what they want to do with their lives. They are still discovering who they are and who they want to be. If they drink, it could ruin their whole future in one way or another. Teenagers should not be allowed to drink for they are not experienced with driving and do not know how alcohol will affect them. Some say that since Europe has a low drinking age, the U.S. should follow but the difference between the U.S. and European drinking laws are that Europeans have a higher age for when teens can drive. Teens may be allowed to drink at 14, 15, or even 16 but they are not allowed to get their license until they are 18, teens in America can get their license at 16. If the drinking age was lowered to 18 that gives them only two years experience driving and so they are not aware of what alcohol can do to their systems. American teens are thus much more likely to drive under the influence of alcohol if the drinking age were lowered (ProCon, 2008). States such as Massachusetts, Michigan, and Maine that have lowered that drinking age had an increase in alcohol related collisions among the 18 to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. No Exit Hell. The four lettered word that trembles in the throats of men and children alike; The images of suffering, flame pits and blood, the smell of burning flesh, the shrieking of those who have fallen from grace. For centuries man has sought out ways to cleanse his soul, to repent for his sins and possibly secure his passage into paradise, all evoked by the fear of eternal damnation and pain. The early 20th centuryphilosopher and existentialist writer Jean Paul Sartresaw life as an endless realm of suffering and a complete void of nothingness. His pessimistic ideals of life followed through to his beliefs on death, as death for him was a final nothingness. If death was a final nothingness, Sartre s view of hell was really a final... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Common in all religions, sin exists almost as a written law. For Christians it exists in the Ten Commandments, the seven deadly sins. For Buddhists, it is the crimes against karma. Sartre, however, does not address what prerequisites his hell contains. By conventional standards, its seems that his characters rightfully deserve to be placed in hell. While Estelle s hands were tarnished with the murder of her own baby, both Garcin and Inez are indirectly responsible for the death of those close to them. For Sartre, all three characters are pathetic examples of humankind. Believing that human beings can never hope to understand why they are here, Sartre, like many existentialists, believes that each individual must choose a goal and follow it with passionate conviction, aware of the certainty of death and the ultimate meaninglessness of one s life. Nonetheless, Estelle, Garcin and Inez all exist with no real purpose and therefore are damned to suffer not only in their life, but their afterlife. Garcin may have been the closest to following a goal, but his act of fleeing from revolution and his cowardly death shows that he has no real passion. Estelle is the most superficial of the group, the one with least conviction. She simply uses people to her pleasure and herself as the object of their desire. Inez sees herself as a quot;damned bitch quot; and believes that she is in fact damned and belongs in hell. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. Two Forms of Intelligence Collection Essay Introduction This essay examines two forms of intelligence collection, namely signals intelligence (SIGINT) and open source intelligence (OSINT), with a view to determining whether the collection methods can be ranked in terms of importance. To this end, this essay will describe SIGINT and OSINT, with a focus on outlining the relative advantages and disadvantages of each method. It will be shown that any attempt to rank collection methods in terms of their importance is only productive insofar as it is necessary to effectively direct the most suitable collection method against an intelligence target. Moreover, it will be argued that OSINT has a uniquely significant, although not more important role, in serving as a foundation upon which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
