History Memory
Advanced English Essay
Explore How The Queen Two Other Related Texts Of Your Own Choosing Represent History
Memory In Unique Evocative Ways
History consists of what is known, remembered and recorded about the past in as objective a way
as possible. Memory can be a fragmented yet still valid perspective on the past which enables
History to fill in the gaps. The concepts of History Memory are featured in the texts, The Queen , a
film directed by Stephen Frears, Kurt Cobain s Suicide Letter and the documentary Fahrenheit 9/11
by Michael Moore in a unique and evocative style. All texts are representations or constructs of
events which present a point of view containing bias and subjectivity. The Queen released in 2006

This is juxtaposed with the scene which features the Royal family s reactions to the news of her
death which presents them in a negative light. Her image is reinforced in the Royal families
dialogue; Prince Phillip says, What s she done now? to which the Queen replies You know what she
s like , both implying their expectation of inappropriate behaviour. This challenges audiences to
consider the conflicting perspectives of Diana and question their own memories.
The idea of challenging audience s memories by presenting people in a different light is also
shown in Kurt Cobain s Suicide Letter . In the letter Cobain uses the technique of rhetorical
question, as seen in the line I m too much of an erratic, moody baby! Do I even have the passion
anymore? to reveal his private yet real persona which uniquely positions readers to challenge their
personal and collective memories of Cobain s persona as a public figure as the public was
unaware of his deeply emotional side as the New York Times wrote when announcing Cobain s
death.
Music can serve as a way for the composer to engage audiences and emphasize the feelings that the
moment is creating. The music featured through out The Queen is mostly of a sad and sorrowful
tone, especially when shown with images such as the sea of flowers

Similarities Between New France And Canada
Have you ever thought about how similar and different New France was compared to Canada?
Well, think about all these activities the people in New France had compared to what we do on a
daily basis. For example, farming, hunting and gathering materials. We can do any of these
activities today and we don t do some of them. We farm today. We only hunt for pleasure and not
to gather food because, we have grocery stores. We don t need to gather materials because we have
stores to buy materials.
In New France, you would have to hunt to get your meat. In Canada, you can go to the grocery
store to get meat. To prepare meat in New France, you would salt, smoke, or dry your meat.
These were different methods used to preserve food. In Canada, you can put meat in the
refrigerator or the freezer. In New France, people ate four meals a day compared to Canada today,
where people eat three meals a day. To... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

We have Queen Elizabeth II. She doesn t do much work. Our prime minister does. In New France,
the governor general has multiple roles. In Canada, the governor general is more figure headed.
Also, the King made laws in New France. The House of Commons/government creates laws in

Gossip Girl Essay
I began to watch the first episode of Gossip Girl, I have never watched the series before and after
hearing about the blog I decided it would be a good time. An overview of what Gossip Girl is
about is that it is a fictional television show that explores the lives of people living amongst the
elites in society in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Throughout the show, there are various
characters and scenarios that discuss the problems of the characters, who are not elites and are
engulfed into a society that they are not welcomed in. In the first season, they introduce the
character of the teenagers who have grown up in extremely wealthy backgrounds, such as Blair
Waldorf, Nate Archibald, Chuck Bass, and Serena van der Woodsen. They were born with heritage
and attended the best Upper East Side s private school, Constance in New York City. But with
these teenagers who have a great status and life, there is the lower class of the characters in Gossip
Girl, which is the Humphrey family. Dan and Jenny Humphrey s dad, Rufus is an old forgotten
band artist, who now owns an art gallery, they live in a loft in Brooklyn. They don t have a lot of
wealth, but they still have enough money to send Dan and Jenny to the same private school are
Serena, Blair, Nate, and Chuck who are all Upper East Side kids. Seeing that the lower class still
have enough to be able to support and go to a private school shows they are in relative poverty, for
they lack the resources that the Upper East Side

A New Set Of National Patient Safety Essay
Introduction
In health care settings across the country patient care is compromised by various preventable
mistakes. Health care workers (HCW) are continuously pushing the boundaries of time constraints.
As these demands are increased the possibility for poor patient outcomes also increase. Prevention
is the first line of defense and promotes healthy practices for HCW and patients. The Joint
Commission (TJC) collects data pertaining to the incidences, information surrounding each case
and establishes a national quality and safety standard. TJC accredits thousands of health care
establishments with the goal to provide safety and increase the quality of care provided in each
setting. In 2016 TJC released a new set of National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG). The goals are
meant to bring awareness to the accredited facilities and HCW of concerning hazards that need to
be focused on. For instance, using two identifiers when identifying a patient to prevent medical
errors, and preforming hand hygiene to reduce the risk of infections.
Accuracy of Patient Identification
The Joint Commission, NPSG.01.01.01 is the goal for improvement of accurately identifying a
patient. The use of two patient identifiers such as name, date of birth, or a type of security number
that will assure the right patient gets the right treatment, care, or service. Complications that arise
from misidentification of a patient may range from mild to Sentinel event. One could consider an

Television In The 1980 s
Revolutionized TV s: In the movie back to the future 2 they demonstrated a fascinating idea of
the innovation of the television. While the Televisions had the same exterior as the TV s in the
1980 s, they had an thought provoking feature in them, and this was because they were portable
and had voice recognition to be able to respond to the customer with a greater efficiency. Even
though the TV was primarily used for taking Marty s commands, the fact that it was moveable was
quite bewildering to me as a spectator. The TV s in the movie had the identical appearance as the
former boxed televisions that were used in the 1980 s and had the equivalent tuning knobs built in to
the bottom of the TV.
Airborne Cars: The concept of transport that was presented in the movie was of flying cars
which I thought was quite an unoriginal idea to most modernized movies. The flying cars seen
were typically like jet aircrafts and supercars that exist today. The cars were capable of
transporting people as any normal vehicle would but were portrayed to be competent to fly at
extraordinary speeds. The distinct features of the flying cars were that they ... Show more content on

In my opinion, 2015 will not be a much of a game changer compared to the current year we are
in. I feel that an encroachment in technology isn t regarded to be as elevated as it was in the 1980

fact that there s not much left but to just go forward in those views sort of renders it so that the

Essay on The Hours by Michael Cunningham
In his novel The Hours, Michael Cunningham creates a dazzling fabric of queer references
managing to intertwine the lives of three different women into one smooth narrative. In this essay,
I will discuss what makes The Hours queer literature, how the novel has contributed to the queer
genre, the cultural significance of the novel, and I will discuss several points made in Jeanette
McVicker s critical article Gaps and Absences in The Hours. My aim, however, is not to say that
Michael Cunningham s The Hours is strictly a queer novel, but to highlight what makes the novel
queer and to discuss Cunningham s idea of sexual orientationas a fluid entity. To begin my analysis
on the queer narrative in The Hours, we must fist discover what... Show more content on

It is considerably easier to identify the queerness of the novel s characters and author than its
political purpose. Michael Cunningham, the novel s author, is a gay male and openly
acknowledges that his sexual orientation influences his work as can be seen by the fact that many
of his novels involve gay characters and gay experiences. In particular, The Hours features three
women who each have same sex experiences Virginia Woolf
, Laura Brown, and Clarissa Vaughn.
Virginia Woolf is a married woman who had public affairs with women and who shares a chaste
kiss with her sister during her narrative. Woolf is also the author of Mrs. Dalloway, a novel that
centers on Clarissa Dalloway, a woman who feels the same way as men feel (Woolf 36) about
women, yet marries a man as society dictates.
Laura Brown is also a married woman, like both Woolf and Dalloway, but rather than having
affairs with women, she, like Clarissa Dalloway, feels bound by her role in society and is greatly
unhappy with her situation. For a brief moment, she breaks away from her heteronormative life
and seems to truly desire to break free from the gender roles forced upon her while sharing a kiss
with her neighbor s wife, Kitty.
The question has been silently asked and silently answered, it seems. They are both afflicted and
blessed, full of shared secrets, striving every moment. They are both impersonating

Spotify Evaluation
An Evaluation of Spotify Streaming Service
Rhetorical Context
When Spotify launched in the United States in 2011, it changed the way we would listen to
music forever. The time before Spotify, music lovers had to rush the aisles of Best Buy and FYE to
find their favorite artist latest CD. Another option was to purchase via iTunes. As a lover of music,
myself, I personally enjoy having the physical copies of great work from my favorite artists, so I
still ransack stores looking for CDs. This isn t always the case for most people, especially in 2017
where everything can be obtained within a matter of seconds. I believe services like Spotify, are

A Leg Stand On By Oliver Sacks
A Leg to Stand On, by Oliver Sacks, is a book about Sacks himself. Sacks depicts the story of his
self induced disability, and the mental/physical barriers he faced within recovery, and acceptance.
Sacks broke down this process into seven steps: the mountain, becoming a patient, limbo,
quickening, Solvitur Ambulando, convalescence, and understanding. Along with the physical and
mental barriers he faced, there were many macro/micro contextual level issues throughout the
book. These issues included problems with his doctors, with his self identification, and body ego.
Sacks grew up as an athletic individual, his health being a main priority throughout his life. He
talks about how he grew up valuing his physical health more than anything, appreciating what hid
body could do and using it to its fullest advantage. Within his physical training, he trained to climb
a mountain called Hardanger Fjord. While climbing this mountain he expressed how his body was
an instrument in which he played and used to create the music of his physical endurance. When he
was reaching the peak of the mountain, he encountered a sign warning him of dangerous bulls on
the mountain. Him thinking he was a superior being and superior to this warning, he continued his
hike despite the warning. Suddenly he was faced with the danger this deadly bull, frozen in place
from his own fear. At first he saw the beauty within the bull, but when he realizes the danger he is
in, the bull became ugly and terrifying.

Yes, www.anzac.com.tr infringes the domain name policy III. FACTS Anatolian New Zeytin
Agricultural Co op (ANZAC), which helps a collective group of olive growers and
manufacturers in Turkey for 20 years, launched a website called www.anzac.com.tr in English, in
January 2013 to inform the global market about Turkish olive agriculture. The website includes
comprehensive information about the olive industry in Turkey. Records show that the Co op s
website had 100.000 hits from around the world during 15 months but since no products are sold
on this website, it did not bring any income to the Co op. The Complainant, Australian
Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), is a governmental support organization for people who
have served or are serving in the Australian Defence Force. The lawyers claim that the Co op s
domain name Anzac , which is known and used in Australia to refer to the Australian and New
Zealand Army Corps that fought in Gallipoli during World War I against the Turkish army,
infringes on the DVA s rights because the domain name that the Co op using in bad faith they said,
is confusingly similar to the use of the word Anzac and they contend that the Co op may unlawfully
benefit from this symbolic name considering 100th Anniversary of the Gallipoli

The Shawl Analysis
In The Shawl , Cynthia Ozick uses vivid details throughout the story to engage the reader. The
story portrays the hard times Jews had during the Holocaust in a concentration camp consisting of
three main characters: Rosa, Stella, and Magda who are trying to survive the horror of Nazism
through a magical shawl. Rosa is the mother of Magda, a fifteen month baby and the aunt of Stella,
a fourteen year old girl. The shawl is the only thing keeping them alive throughout the story and at
the end it leads them to their death. The author s use of symbolism is very significant to the story.
Cynthia Ozickuse of symbolism helps the reader visualize the setting by using symbols to convey
different meanings and understand how these symbols characterize the experience of the holocaust
survivors.
First, let s start off with the central symbol Ozick uses, the shawl. The shawl itself carries various
meanings to the reader and symbolizes something different to each character. Rosa, Stella and
Magda form a group on the basis of their shared illusion concerning the magic shawl (Gordon
322). One of the first symbols the shawl delivers is life and death. This magical shawl has
nourished Magda for three days and three nights due to Rosa not being able to produce milk for
her. In the story it says The shawl was Magda s own baby, her pet, her little sister. (Ozick 248)
which tells us that the shawl has become Magda s life. The shawl somehow seems to feed her,
protect her and keep her alive. For Magda, this shawl has become everything: mother, food,
clothing, and shelter. (Gordon 322). Even though the shawl in some way kept Magda alive and it
symbolized her life, unfortunately at the end it became the symbol of her death. Even though the
shawl did not literally wrap her in death, the shawl that nourished her and protected her in life was
the same cloth that brought about her death says (Jones 1) Stella started getting cold and took the
shawl away from Magda which became the reason of Magda s death. She then started howling
after noticing she didn t have her shawl which made a Nazi officer notice her existence and caused
her death.
Not only does the shawl have a massive meaning in Magda s life but it also symbolizes a

Katherine And Suazo
SuazoIn both texts the conflict is very similar, the younger sister Bianca has many suitors but
the fatherwill not allow her to date/marry until her older sister Katherine/Katarina does first. The
issue is solved once the suitor s find Petruchio/Patrick and pay him to be with her but at the end
they actually fall in love. One difference between the film and the play would be in the way that
Petruchio/Patrick attempts to captivate her. In the film, he tries to woe her by finding out what
her interests are and what she likes in a man. However, in the play he speaks sweet to her but
does other wise by being disrespectful and cruel towards her. For example, once they are married
and she is at his home, he tries to starve her and deprive her from... Show more content on

Furthermore, one of the most noticeable differences was in the main character Katherine.
Although Katarina s personality is still antagonistic in the movie, Katherine is a lot more hostile
and violent in the play. Bianca pleads, I prithee, sister Kate, unite my hands (Shakespeare). In
this instance, Katherine has tied up Bianca s hands because she demands her to tell her
truthfully which suitor she likes the most. Bianca is pleading to be untied but since Bianca did
not reply with the answer she wanted to hear, Katherine hits Bianca. In the film Katarina never
strikes her sister or anyone else to cause harm. It is also the same case with Pettruchio in the
play; he is portrayed as even more belligerent compared to Katherine. He also behaves that way
towards herwhen he tries to control her by starving her and depriving her sleep. Nonetheless,
Patrick seems to be gentler with Katarina and even considerate of her well being. For example,
when Katarina becomes intoxicated at a party, Patrick takes care of her until she gets better and
takes her home.In addition, there is a huge time gap between the movie and the play, which lead
to completely different cultures. The play is based of the 1590 s while the movie is based on
the late 1990 s almost borderline 2000 s since it was made in 1999. An obvious difference that
can be seen is the language that is being used in the play; it is still English but a much older
version. The English being used in Shakespeare play is much more formal and less direct than the
one in the movie, which has more cursing and openness to topics such as sex. The type of fashion
beingdescribed in the play is nothing alike to the one being used in the film. Petruchio describes the
clothing that they will wear when they return to Katherine s house, with silken coats and caps...with
ruffs and cuffs and farthingales... (Shakespeare). In the film, the

American Imperialism And The Laguna Pueblo History
Events that occur throughout a period of time have an interesting effect on the people, places, and
landscapes around it. In the course of history, particularly the history of North American Indigenous
Peoples, we can see how events have influenced their way of life. Since the arrival of Europeans in
North America, it is easy to notice how a singular event can cause shifts within indigenous cultures,
communities and the landscape. Although shifts within and between cultures and communities can
be good, the shifts Native Americans faced with the arrival of Europeans were usually not. For
centuries Natives struggled to preserve their lands, culture, and people as they were slowly being
assimilated into the new Euro American way of life and colonization. In this, we can not only see
the works of Euro American hegemony but also the fight of Natives to defend and protect their
cultural sovereignty. Throughout the course of this essay I am going to explore the ways in which
Euro American hegemony and the fight to preserve culture relate to the Laguna Pueblo history in
the novel, Ceremony, by Leslie Marmon Silko.
The novel, Ceremony, takes place in the early 19th century in the southwest United States. We meet
the main character Tayo who is half white and half Laguna Pueblo. His mother had an affair with
a white man and left Tayo to be raised by his aunt when he was four. When we first meet Tayo he
has recently returned to the reservation after World War II and is

Neuroblastoma Biology Essay
A major player in neuroblastoma biology is MYC, it is normally contained within our cells and is
a large protein that functions as a transcription factor. MYC is known to be a proto oncogene
which normally activates gene expression, it can also repress it depending on what gene it sits on.
Myc belongs to a family of related human genes which are known through (Hart et al 2010) to have
evolved from primordial myc like genes found in Drosophila and Hydra, these include; c MYC,
MYC N and MYC L. The expression of c Myc is seen in all tissues whereas MYCN is expressed in
the nervous system and MYC L is found initially in the lungs. Myc proteins are basic helix loop

Inhibition of this pathway was seen to decrease the neuroblastoma tumour mass as well as the
oncogene MYCN protein expression, and in neuroblastoma cells lines the use of AKT specific
inhibitors induced apoptotic cell death. Another pathway relevant to MYCN is the glycogen
synthase kinase 3 (GSK3) pathway which is known to be involved in a large number of signalling
pathways [e.g., Wnt, PI3K/Akt, mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK), and p53], many of
which are associated with the neural crest. Wnt signalling is known to be crucial in the induction,
delamination and differentiation of the neural crest and GSK3 is seen to be a negative mediator of
this pathway. Mammalian GSK3 is generated from two genes GSK3О± and GSK3ОІ, GSK3ОІ
phosphorylates and stabilizes the MYCN protein, this in turn can enable the dephosphorylation of a
different site that can lead to MYCN degradation.
The cell cycle and cell differentiation are processes where they appear to be regulated by sensitive
molecular mechanisms such as cyclins. Cell division mechanisms involve protein kinases and their
activators which are necessary for the cell cycle to proceed. The protein kinases are modulated by
signals that involve changes in the expression patterns of these kinases, post translational
modifications and

Beloved Poet, Shel Silverstein
Do you remember reading comical poetry such as The Giving Tree during your childhood? Its
author, Shel Silverstein, was one of the most recognizable children s poets and poetry icons that
has ever lived. He holds a household name due to the fact that despite his past he is able to help
form a future in language, poetry, and the arts for the innovators of tomorrow. Silverstein s works
captured the essence of a person s childhood and changed poetry and children s literature forever.
Sheldon Allan Silverstein was not always the literature icon he quickly became in the mid 20th
century. Born on September 25, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois during the Great Depression. He was
not a very sociable child. His hobbies included drawing cartoons and writing. As a result, his
professional drawing and writing career began with cartooning and writing for Playboy
Magazine, in 1952. He was also not popular with girls during his teenage year, which motivated
him to write more mature poetry in the future about love. Silverstein wanted to reach out to all age
groups and express that his talent was not only used for the entertainment of children, but for
everyone. Silverstein didn t write to impress others ... he did hope that people no matter what age,
would find something to identify... and experience a personal sense of discovery . in his poetry
(Shel Silverstein 1999). Silverstein was divorced and had one daughter, who died in her childhood.

Anyone can stand on a podium and conduct, or call out a few commands, but it takes a well

superior candidate for drum major. I have grown greatly as a person, as well as a musician, during
my many years as a band student. Marching bandis a huge passion of mine, and probably will

My creativity enables me to see things in a different way, a way that may make things simpler or

have to suggest. For example, something may not be working out the way that it was meant to
and I can accept that and try any new ideas brought up to me. Listening is also important because
someone may point out something that I never realized, and criticism goes along with that. I can
take criticism well, and I even encourage it. I am always looking to better myself and it helped
build me into the musician and person I am today. Furthermore, I do not fear making mistakes.
Mistakes are how we learn, and we will never get anywhere if mistakes are never made. Above
all, I have a huge desire for helping people succeed. I do not want anyone feeling like they cannot

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored...
When History Changed The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People) was founded in the year of 1909 in New York City. This association is considered the
nation s biggest and oldest civil rights organizations. It was formed in response to the continuing
terrible practice of lynching during that period. Lynching was being practiced during this time
and affected many people just because of their skin color. The NAACP was made by white and
black citizens [fought] for social justice (NAACP History). According to the NAACP, Mary
English and Dr. Henry Moscowitz called for a meeting to converse about racial issues. Sixty people
signed the call including seven of them whom were African Americanwhich was rarely seen. After
their meeting they (white and black citizens) decided to initiate the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People, which their main goal was/is to protect people s rights guaranteed
in the 13th, 14th and 15th amendment to the United StatesConstitutions (NAACP). Their principal
objective of this association is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of
minority group citizens of United States and [abolish] race [prejudgment] (NAACP). In other
words the NAACP was created to protect the constitutional rights of blacks, which was very
controversial during that period (2011). This organization seeks to get rid of all racial judgment
through the democratic procedures, which it would help end

Why Harry Was So Sick Of Being Lied
There he was again, staring out a window. This time, Harry was watching the suburban empire
from which he had narrowly escaped, fly past in a dizzying blur. The bus was small and oddly
smelled of raisins, but he was on his way. He had managed to elude Petunia s hawk like watch on
him and prevail against all odds. In his hand, he still tightly clutched the locket, half afraid it
would suddenly slip through his fingers. Quite honestly, it wouldn t surprise him if it did. In the
wizarding world, anything was possible. Which was sometimes an unprecedented problem.
Through the hexes and curses, riddles and potions, it could be hard to know what to believe. Harry

Strangely though, Petunia was still sitting at the table. Almost expectantly, like she was waiting
for something. Noticing Harry still standing there, she gave him a nasty glare. What are you still
doing here, boy? The malice in her tone was evident, as always. Harry sighed and left. Though
he tried to ignore it, Harry couldn t help but remain curious over Petunia s peculiar anxiety.
Lying awake in bed, he listened. The house was quiet for the longest time, aside from the low
hum of the television. Then, Harry heard the phone ring. Petunia must ve jumped up suddenly,
because he heard her chair scrape against the floor. Petunia hissed into the phone urgently.
Swiftly slinking out of bed, Harry carefully opened his door. Edging along the hallway, he
moved until Petunia s voice was just around the corner. Yes. I have it. I ve had it ever since Lily
died. No. Lily s pensieve is safe. I understand. It remains in the package hidden in the kitchen. It s
inside an empty jar on a topmost shelf. Harry had gone pale. His mother s memories were in this
very house, just within his grasp. And now, he knew exactly where they were. Listen, I don t want
to be in any part of this... None of this was supposed to happen... that was an accident... Harry was
already dashing back to the cupboard. He hardly got any sleep that night. Thoughts of what this
pensieve could possibly hold, kept him up. But why did Petunia have it? Harry

Compare The Reaction Between Tert-Butyl Chloride And Alkyl...
The data reveals that reactions occurred in all four test tubes. This means that all four test tubes
turned out to be positive reactions. The data collected regarding the reactions did not meet the
expectation. The expectation was that two out of the four tubes would yield a reaction. To be
specific, the expectation was that only one of the first two tubes would have a reaction, and only
one of the second two tubes (tubes 3 4) would have a reaction. This was the expectation because
the goal of the reactions was to verify the structure of the alkyl halides. The structure of the tert
butyl chloride and chlorobutane were in question. If they reacted with NaI, it could be concluded
that they were primary alkyl halides. If they reacted with AgNO3, it could be concluded that they
were tertiary alkyl halides.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
AgNO3 easily undergoes reactions with tertiary alkyl halides (SN1). The four tubes should not all
have undergone reactions because that would give an unclear indication whether or not the alkyl
halides were primary or tertiary. Two tubes were supposed to undergo reaction and two should not
have. It is likely that the error that made the extra two test tubes react was contamination. If the
test tubes contained traces of both solvents, it would be possible that the alkyl halides would react
in all the test tubes. This is because the alkyl halide would react with its preferred solvent, even if
the solvent is present in small quantities. This contamination could have been due to using the same
pipette to transfer the solvents. It also could have been possible that the test tubes used were not
properly cleaned and still contained traces of

Essay on Decomposition and Recycling in Aquatic Ecosystems
Introduction
Biogeochemical cycles are important to the sustainability of all life. Chemical elements necessary
for the growth and reproduction of all organisms have a limited quantity on earth at any one time,
other than the occasional meteor that brings with it new matter. It is therefore important that the
recycling of these chemical elements is efficient. Autotrophs are the basis of almost all ecosystems.
The rate that autotrophs produce and transfer energy is vital to the capacity of organisms that can
inhabit these ecosystems. To understand the rates in which certain species leaves decay and release
the energy stored within them can demonstrate how quickly the energy becomes available to
organisms in higher trophic levels. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Love Reform
Reform
The song Where is the Love? by the Black Eyed Peas focuses on the problems facing America,
and the world as a whole. The song is aimed towards people in society and how we are oblivious
to what is going on in the domain around us. The lyrics talk about the war in Iraq, racism,
discrimination, selfishness, murder, and terrorism. I think the main goal of the song is to bring
forward these issues to people in hope that it will strike a reform in the way society as a whole acts.
The song was released in 2003 in their third album, Elephunk. It was written after the 9/11 terrorist
attack and the war in Iraq. The song not only references to the terrorist attack upon the United States
of America but other terrorist groups as well. It states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The song uses examples of real hate groups, real issues including racism, disrespect to others,
and basically having no love for the people of their country. Most of the population has probably
come in contact with one or more issues talked about it the song, making the song relatable and
logical to listeners. If Americans thought about it they would see that it was irrational to be over
in Iraq forcing other countries to change their ways, when America can t even feed and shelter all
the homeless people of the country not to mention all the other issues of our country. Everything
that the song entitles has truth to it, the lyrics If you only have love for your own race, then you
only leave space to discriminate, and to discriminate only generates hate... You re bound to get
irate are true words and a prime example of accuracy in the lyrics. I doubt anyone could argue these
lyrics did not make a valid point.
As I have shown, the song where is the Love by the Black Eyed Peas is a very persuasive song.
The use of ethos, logos, and pathos throughout the song help to convince listeners that something
has to be done. Reform is needed in America and they brought attention to this. America has real
issues that cannot and will not fix themselves it takes the community as a whole to stand up for
what right and make a change in our evil

Theme Of First Love By William Clare
William Shakespeare s sonnet 116 The Marriage of True Minds is one of his most famous poem
that he ever written. The main theme of the poem is about true love and showing how the author
disseminated his thoughts about the elevated quality of love.
The author started his first quatrain with the statement Let me not to the marriage of true minds .
With the declaration, the readers may surmise that the poem is referring to a married couple. Yet,
the author is metaphorically used the phrase to indicate the theme of the poem true love.
Importantly, we noticed minds has been chosen as the symbol for their love instead of heart or
body . The author chose minds because it defines an understanding couple or soul mates we may

The Color Purple Inhumanity Essay
Throughout The Color Purple Walker highlights man s inhumanity to women through her female
characters, however, this is not their sole purpose. These characters are used to show Walker s
womanist and spiritualistic views as well as becoming highly complex human beings by the novel
s close. Although in the first part of the novel it is arguable that this gallery of women are merely
used as a device to expose inequality, objectification and cruelty, especially in with black women, in
early 20th Century society.
Walker makes man s inhumanity to women clear from the very first line of the novel. You better
not never tell nobody but God. It d kill your mammy clearly shows the emotional black mail that
Celie faces and sets the tone for a novel which focuses in on the abused in society. This
relationship with Alfonzo and Celie is fundamental in showing how women are abused by men in

Benefits Of Going To College While On Active Duty
Researchers from Student Veterans of America Service Organization say that from 2002 through
2013 only 51.7% of veterans who attended college after the military finished with a degree. This
percentage is lower than non veterans. Why is this statistic important? If a service member waits
until they get out of the military to start college they lose the safety net of the military college
office and a steady paycheck. This could be a major factor why the graduation rate is so low.
According to the Pat TillmanFoundation, Got Your Six, and Operation College Promise the
average veteran who attempts to go back to school after getting out of the military carries with
them 28 transfer credits, which automatically makes them sophomores. This makes it very
surprising that the graduation rate is still so low. What makes going to college while on active
duty easier? While on active duty the military member has many resources to help them complete a
degree. With that being said there are difficulties associated with active duty service members

dealing with deployments, temporary assigned duties, and permanent change of station orders he
/she will have a much easier time finishing college out in the civilian sector. It is my opinion
however that it would be easier to start and finish a degree while continuing to be on active duty
than to do it in the civilian world. The safety net associated with being on active duty and a student
is the main reason why I believe

Essay on Claims by Judith Ortiz
Claims by Judith Ortiz
Judith Ortiz Cofer is a Puerto Rican whose writing often examines the conflict and the beauty of
cultures mixing together, as people immigrate to America. Though she exhibits a strong connection
to her Latin heritage, she often seems to also resent that part of her life. There are many standards
and expectations in the Puerto Rican society which Cofer writes to subvert, viewing them
negatively. As a Puerto Rican woman, Cofer often disagrees with the limits and expectations
placed on a woman in Puerto Rican society, and this attitude is the subject of much of her work. In

Examining Claims on another lever, one finds messages speaking out against the portrayal of a
good woman in Puerto Rican societies. Women are expected to sacrifice every aspect of their
own lives for their husbands and children. The Grandmother accepted her role in society, but
always had dreams of claiming her own life. Grandmother made a promise when she was
married, and she kept her promise. She raised five children and led a life committed to a
husband who was expected by society to wander. But all along, Grandmother had dreamed of the
day when she could secure her freedom. She dreamed of sleeping in her own bed and simply
being herself. Her dream is finally realized in old age, as described in the poem. Grandmother
claimed the right to be herself and live her life. Her days were constantly occupied by caring for
her children and her nights were always invaded by her husband s presence. Now that her family
has all moved on, Grandmother has her house and her life for herself. Each right that she has
claimed has multiple meanings about her life and society, her dreams and true personality. The first
right, that of sleeping alone and owning her nights, describes an internal conflict which
Grandmother carried. While she truly loved her family, she yearned for space and freedom. She

Also, women lose its freedom because their baby becomes the foreground of their life and her

Pros Of Cloning
There are animals, plants, and possibly humans that have all been cloned before. Either they have
been artificially or naturally cloned (Stratfor). Scientists are still researching on how to artificially
clone humans. The amount of technology in this world, anything is possible. The first ever
artificially cloned animal, was a sheep named dolly(Stratfor). It took a lot of difficult work for the
reproduction. Humans should be cloned for extra body parts. Those extra body parts could save
lives. Cloningshould be used in this world, so that no animals could go extinct and humans will
hopefully be able to be coned in the future.
The earth has created a variety of people and animals. Most of the people and animals are usually
different, since people are humans and not animals. Creatures are easier to clone compared
humans (Begley). Humans should only be cloned for spare body parts not to have an exact replica
of itself. When dolly first became cloned, humans wanted to then be cloned. Several movies about

with a kidney bean shape (Ebert, 2005). The Daphnia magna live in mostly freshwater
environments, but can live in certain brackish water areas. In comparing males and females the
males have smaller body sizes, larger antennas a modified post abdomen (Ebert, 2005). The
Daphnia magna are good test subjects to assess the effects of the plant defense compounds of
caffeine and Kava kava, as they are easy to care for, inexpensive, and the effects of the
compound are easily noted through looking at the heart rate of the organism under a microscope.
This experiment required the use of a two tailed t test to determine whether there was a
difference in heart of the Daphnia magna before and after the plant defensive compounds
(caffeine and Kava kava) were introduced. This test also helps to see if the difference in the test is
statistically significant, which determines if the results obtained occurred by chance. A t value is
obtained to get the probability value and as the t value increases it signifies a larger meaningful
difference between the two groups (Blanar, 2017) and as it decreases the opposite happens. If a t
value is smaller than the t critical value the null hypothesis is accepted, but if the obtained t value
is larger than the t critical value the null hypothesis is rejected. A p value is also important for this
experiment, as it is the probability the null hypothesis is correct. The null hypothesis for this
experiment was that there was no difference in the Daphnia magna heart rate after the plant
defense compounds (caffeine and Kava kava) were added compared to before, while the
alternative hypothesis generated was that there is a difference in the Daphnia magna heart rate after
the plant defense compounds (caffeine and Kava kava) were added compared

Of ThucydidesBiases And Their Consistencies In Greek History
Biases and Their Consistencies in Greek History Humans have made notable accomplishes for
many centuries. Only recently in human history have these events been recorded by other humans.
As a species we naturally have bias, be that toward our culture or an ideology. Thucydides and
Herodotus both had distinct source types as well as biases, but conform to them in different ways
reflective of their different writing styles. First we will examine the sources that Thucydidesused
and why he uses speeches. Thucydides was the main source of the information as he lived and held
command as a general during the Peloponnesian Warup until his exile to Peloponnesian territory
(Thucydides p. 102). His position as a general makes Thucydides an excellent eye witness to
many of these instances. Thucydides spending time with the Peloponnesians gained him insight
into those people and how they would have operated. Thucydides uses himself as his main
source as he held a high position in society and would have access to the events of the war.
Thucydides also used other s speeches as resources to show insight into the events occurring. He
used the Melian dialogue to show the wit of the Athenians and illustrate their impulsive desire to
conquer independent cities (Thucydides p. 102 108). This passage illustrates the beginning of the
end for the Athenians. The Melians were a colony of the Lacedaemonians and did not take a side
in the ongoing war, but Athens eventually probed them to war (Thucydides 102). This
foreshadows the battle at Syracuse in which Athens went blindly into out of desire to simply slight
the Spartans. Thucydides uses speeches to show insight to the people s thoughts and to add
foreshadowing to future events. Herodotus used the account of people and their own traditions as
his references in his works. During the beginnings of the war between the Persians and the Greeks
Herodotus speaks of the Persian invasion of the Delians. During the Persians departure Herodotus
uses the Delians as the reference for the events that unfolded next (Herodotus p. 108). Aside from
the mentions of how the stories are sourced from the people Herodotus does not mention where
else his sources came from. Herodotus relied heavily on

Widening Income Inequality
Inequality has increased within the most advanced and emerging markets and developing countries
(EMDCs), a phenomenon that has garnered considerable attention with President Obama calling
widening income inequality the defining challenge of our time. Irrespective of culture, religion and
ideology, inequality concerns and affects everyone. Inequality can serve as an indication of the
shortage of income mobility and opportunity―a reflection of the perpetual disadvantage for
certain sectors of society. Increasing inequality also has serious implications for macroeconomic
stability and economic growth, it can concentrate political and decision making power in the hands
of a few. This in turn results in the inefficient allocation of human resources,... Show more content

Inequality affects long term growth and cuts short the benefits such growth can bring about through
the multiplier effect. So, the need to reduce inequality is apparent. The more progressive the tax is,
the more effective it can be to reduce inequality. Progressivity could be strengthened by cutting back
on tax expenditures that benefit mostly top income groups (e.g. tax relief on mortgage interest). In
addition, removing other tax reliefs would increase equity and allow a growth enhancing cut in
marginal labour income tax rates. It would also decrease tax avoidance instruments available for
high income earners. Moreover, we have concluded that inheritance tax is deduced to be much more
useful in reducing inequality. Therefore, rising inequality warrants the imposition of higher income
and inheritance taxes on the rich, with more of an emphasis on higher inheritance

The Implications of the Stanford Prison Experiment Essay
The Implications of the Stanford Prison Experiment In 1971 Dr Philip Zimbardo conducted an
experiment in the basement of Stanford University. This involved imprisoning nine volunteers
in a mock up of Stanford prison, which was policed by nine guards (more volunteers). These
guards had complete control over the prisoners. They could do anything to the prisoners, but use
physical violence. The subjects were all students applying for summer jobs to get some money.
To make it a fair test, the subjects were made to take psychological tests to make sure they were
mentally fit. On the first day, the prisoner subjects were picked up by a panda car and arrested on
a mass crackdown on violations of penal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It showed that when given power, many will abuse it. This is very useful as we can apply these
lessons to a real life situation, which could save thousands of people in a real prison. A
conclusion of the experiment is that if you put good people in an evil and unfair place they will
become evil. It also makes us conscious of what people are capable of whatever you think of
them. The guards acted the worst in the middle of the night it is suggested that this is because
the believed they were not being watched. It has been asked if what was learnt was worth the
sacrifice of the people involved? I simply think it was worth the sacrifice. The people involved
may have suffered mental anguish due to this experiment but they will die, and other people can
take their place: but the knowledge gained will not be forgotten so easily. Also I think it is
wrong to simply blame the experiment; there is nothing wrong with putting people in a false
prison being controlled by other people. What was wrong was the evil the people in control
exerted on the prisoners. The BBC has repeated the experiment, which some see as wrong. The
repeat of the experiment has been improved by adding several safe guards to protect the prisoners
from the guards. However these

Rank Structure Essay
The Importance of Rank Structure in the Marine Corps Rank structure is important to the
Marine Corps because it form one of the fundamental backbones of military service. Many
believe that with rank structure the Marine Corps or any other military organization could not
function. This is has been proven fact over the centuries by the countless of mob armies that has
arisen in history of the fall apart because they had no clear leadership. One of the ways that rank
structure is important is that it is like a link of chains. This chain forms a link between the highest
officer to the lowest of the enlisted. This chain allows for the anywhere in the chain of command
for an order to be issued and it will go down the chain to the level... Show more content on

This is also one of the most important reasons for the rank structure to have been created is that
any time a commander can find out the condition of his troops. And this of course is something
that every commander especially if the commander is going in to a wartime environment would
like to know what strength he is has. Rank structure is vital to the Marine Corps or any military
organization because rank structure is the basis of where all discipline in the ranks comes from.
Without a rank structure know one would know who is in charge of who and everyone would
start to trying to take charge in their own way cause confusion and disorder through the ranks.
Also without rank structure, when rules or orders are broken in a military organization it is up to
the superior of that person to discipline that person, no one would know who was supposed to
merit the discipline or who is supposed to carry out the discipline thus cause more chaos and
anarchy. Therefore in conclusion we see that without rank structure, military organization such as
the Marine Corps could not function. Without rank structure the Marine Corps would be in
disorder and disarray, because it would have no idea who was in charge and who was suppose to
be the foot soldiers. Therefore maintaining proper rank structure is the responsibility of the highest
ranking officer to the lowest ranking private in boot

One way that national and international agencies are involved with state and local health
departments is the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS), which is a

agencies to share information about disease related issues. Health departments work with
healthcare providers, hospitals, laboratories, and others to increase monitoring, control, and
prevention of diseases which allows for collection, analysis, and sharing of data and works to

Within 48 hours, a team of professionals arrived at the spill location. From there, various health
officials, including those from CDPHE worked to determine the hazards that the water might
cause. The tests found typical mining contaminants and water hardness and pH were also tested.
As determined by a variety of organizations, the Animas River was opened to the City of
Durango and the public water systems were allowed to restart their water intake processes. An
article containing frequently asked questions was released on the CDPHE website on August
14th, letting the public know where their drinking water came from, if the river was safe to get in
based on CDPHE water and sediment testing, and other general answers to common questions
(12). That same day, the La Plata County Sheriff opened Animas River for public uses with a
health advisory attached. The next day, a press release warned farmers and ranchers against using
irrigation ditches until they were flushed completely and the sediment had left the canals. On
August 18th, information was about the spill impacts and what efforts were being taken to ensure
public safety. The latest releases, both on September 2, 2015 dealt with the safety of the drinking
water and provided information about drinking water safety and what the health agency officials
found in the water and that the trout from the river were deemed safe to eat. Other services that are
still in place include free water testing

An Introduction Of The Interstate Commerce Act Of 1887
Interstate Commerce Act of 1887
Introduction
The Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 is federal law in the United States. It was designed to
regulate the railroad industry especially its monopolistic practices. A number of states in US such
as Ohio had unsuccessfully attempted to regulate railroads before 1887. Ohio had created a state
commission to report on railroad and telegraph rates in 1867 but the commission did not have the
authority to change rates or to order the railroad companies to change their policies. Due to failure
of states to regulate railroads, the Congress passed the Interstate Commerce Act in 1887. The Act
required that railroads charge fair rates to their customers and make those rate public.
Background
In 1887, Congress passed the Interstate Commerce Act, making railroads the first industry subject
to Federal regulation. This law was passed by the Congress largely in response to the public
demand that railroad operations be regulated. A five member enforcement board knowns as the
Interstate Commerce Commission was also established by the act.
In the years following the Civil War, railroads had become the primary form of transportation for
both people and goods. They were privately owned and entirely unregulated which gave them a
natural monopoly in the areas that only they serviced. Monopolies are normally viewed harmful
as they obstruct the free competition that determines the price and quality of products and
services offered. The railroad monopolies had the power to set prices, exclude competitors, and
control the market in several geographic areas. There was competition among railroads for long
haul routes but there was none for the short haul runs. This allowed the railroads to discriminate
in the prices by charging a higher price per mile for short hauls than long hauls. They also
discriminated in the prices they charged to passengers and shippers in different localities by
providing rebates to large shippers or buyers. These practices caused problems to the American
farmers who lacked the shipment volume necessary to obtain more favorable rates. The prices
charged and the practices adopted by the railroad services greatly influenced individuals and
businesses. Railroads also banded

  • 2. History Memory Advanced English Essay Explore How The Queen Two Other Related Texts Of Your Own Choosing Represent History Memory In Unique Evocative Ways History consists of what is known, remembered and recorded about the past in as objective a way as possible. Memory can be a fragmented yet still valid perspective on the past which enables History to fill in the gaps. The concepts of History Memory are featured in the texts, The Queen , a film directed by Stephen Frears, Kurt Cobain s Suicide Letter and the documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 by Michael Moore in a unique and evocative style. All texts are representations or constructs of events which present a point of view containing bias and subjectivity. The Queen released in 2006 uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is juxtaposed with the scene which features the Royal family s reactions to the news of her death which presents them in a negative light. Her image is reinforced in the Royal families dialogue; Prince Phillip says, What s she done now? to which the Queen replies You know what she s like , both implying their expectation of inappropriate behaviour. This challenges audiences to consider the conflicting perspectives of Diana and question their own memories. The idea of challenging audience s memories by presenting people in a different light is also shown in Kurt Cobain s Suicide Letter . In the letter Cobain uses the technique of rhetorical question, as seen in the line I m too much of an erratic, moody baby! Do I even have the passion anymore? to reveal his private yet real persona which uniquely positions readers to challenge their personal and collective memories of Cobain s persona as a public figure as the public was unaware of his deeply emotional side as the New York Times wrote when announcing Cobain s death. Music can serve as a way for the composer to engage audiences and emphasize the feelings that the moment is creating. The music featured through out The Queen is mostly of a sad and sorrowful tone, especially when shown with images such as the sea of flowers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well, think about all these activities the people in New France had compared to what we do on a daily basis. For example, farming, hunting and gathering materials. We can do any of these activities today and we don t do some of them. We farm today. We only hunt for pleasure and not to gather food because, we have grocery stores. We don t need to gather materials because we have stores to buy materials. In New France, you would have to hunt to get your meat. In Canada, you can go to the grocery store to get meat. To prepare meat in New France, you would salt, smoke, or dry your meat. These were different methods used to preserve food. In Canada, you can put meat in the refrigerator or the freezer. • 4. Gossip Girl Essay I began to watch the first episode of Gossip Girl, I have never watched the series before and after hearing about the blog I decided it would be a good time. An overview of what Gossip Girl is about is that it is a fictional television show that explores the lives of people living amongst the elites in society in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Throughout the show, there are various characters and scenarios that discuss the problems of the characters, who are not elites and are engulfed into a society that they are not welcomed in. In the first season, they introduce the character of the teenagers who have grown up in extremely wealthy backgrounds, such as Blair Waldorf, Nate Archibald, Chuck Bass, and Serena van der Woodsen. They were born with heritage and attended the best Upper East Side s private school, Constance in New York City. But with these teenagers who have a great status and life, there is the lower class of the characters in Gossip Girl, which is the Humphrey family. Dan and Jenny Humphrey s dad, Rufus is an old forgotten band artist, who now owns an art gallery, they live in a loft in Brooklyn. They don t have a lot of wealth, but they still have enough money to send Dan and Jenny to the same private school are Serena, Blair, Nate, and Chuck who are all Upper East Side kids. Seeing that the lower class still have enough to be able to support and go to a private school shows they are in relative poverty, for they lack the resources that the Upper East Side ... • 5. A New Set Of National Patient Safety Essay Introduction In health care settings across the country patient care is compromised by various preventable mistakes. Health care workers (HCW) are continuously pushing the boundaries of time constraints. As these demands are increased the possibility for poor patient outcomes also increase. Prevention is the first line of defense and promotes healthy practices for HCW and patients. The Joint Commission (TJC) collects data pertaining to the incidences, information surrounding each case and establishes a national quality and safety standard. TJC accredits thousands of health care establishments with the goal to provide safety and increase the quality of care provided in each setting. In 2016 TJC released a new set of National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG). The goals are meant to bring awareness to the accredited facilities and HCW of concerning hazards that need to be focused on. For instance, using two identifiers when identifying a patient to prevent medical errors, and preforming hand hygiene to reduce the risk of infections. Accuracy of Patient Identification The Joint Commission, NPSG.01.01.01 is the goal for improvement of accurately identifying a patient. The use of two patient identifiers such as name, date of birth, or a type of security number that will assure the right patient gets the right treatment, care, or service. While the Televisions had the same exterior as the TV s in the 1980 s, they had an thought provoking feature in them, and this was because they were portable and had voice recognition to be able to respond to the customer with a greater efficiency. Even though the TV was primarily used for taking Marty s commands, the fact that it was moveable was quite bewildering to me as a spectator. The TV s in the movie had the identical appearance as the former boxed televisions that were used in the 1980 s and had the equivalent tuning knobs built in to the bottom of the TV. Airborne Cars: The concept of transport that was presented in the movie was of flying cars which I thought was quite an unoriginal idea to most modernized movies. The flying cars seen were typically like jet aircrafts and supercars that exist today. The cars were capable of transporting people as any normal vehicle would but were portrayed to be competent to fly at extraordinary speeds. The distinct features of the flying cars were that they ... • 8. Essay on The Hours by Michael Cunningham In his novel The Hours, Michael Cunningham creates a dazzling fabric of queer references managing to intertwine the lives of three different women into one smooth narrative. In this essay, I will discuss what makes The Hours queer literature, how the novel has contributed to the queer genre, the cultural significance of the novel, and I will discuss several points made in Jeanette McVicker s critical article Gaps and Absences in The Hours. My aim, however, is not to say that Michael Cunningham s The Hours is strictly a queer novel, but to highlight what makes the novel queer and to discuss Cunningham s idea of sexual orientationas a fluid entity. To begin my analysis on the queer narrative in The Hours, we must fist discover what... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is considerably easier to identify the queerness of the novel s characters and author than its political purpose. Michael Cunningham, the novel s author, is a gay male and openly acknowledges that his sexual orientation influences his work as can be seen by the fact that many of his novels involve gay characters and gay experiences. In particular, The Hours features three women who each have same sex experiences Virginia Woolf , Laura Brown, and Clarissa Vaughn. Virginia Woolf is a married woman who had public affairs with women and who shares a chaste kiss with her sister during her narrative. Woolf is also the author of Mrs. Dalloway, a novel that centers on Clarissa Dalloway, a woman who feels the same way as men feel (Woolf 36) about women, yet marries a man as society dictates. Laura Brown is also a married woman, like both Woolf and Dalloway, but rather than having affairs with women, she, like Clarissa Dalloway, feels bound by her role in society and is greatly unhappy with her situation. For a brief moment, she breaks away from her heteronormative life and seems to truly desire to break free from the gender roles forced upon her while sharing a kiss with her neighbor s wife, Kitty. The question has been silently asked and silently answered, it seems. They are both afflicted and blessed, full of shared secrets, striving every moment. They are both impersonating ... • 10. A Leg Stand On By Oliver Sacks A Leg to Stand On, by Oliver Sacks, is a book about Sacks himself. Sacks depicts the story of his self induced disability, and the mental/physical barriers he faced within recovery, and acceptance. Sacks broke down this process into seven steps: the mountain, becoming a patient, limbo, quickening, Solvitur Ambulando, convalescence, and understanding. Along with the physical and mental barriers he faced, there were many macro/micro contextual level issues throughout the book. These issues included problems with his doctors, with his self identification, and body ego. Sacks grew up as an athletic individual, his health being a main priority throughout his life. He talks about how he grew up valuing his physical health more than anything, appreciating what hid body could do and using it to its fullest advantage. Within his physical training, he trained to climb a mountain called Hardanger Fjord. While climbing this mountain he expressed how his body was an instrument in which he played and used to create the music of his physical endurance. When he was reaching the peak of the mountain, he encountered a sign warning him of dangerous bulls on the mountain. Him thinking he was a superior being and superior to this warning, he continued his hike despite the warning. Suddenly he was faced with the danger this deadly bull, frozen in place from his own fear. At first he saw the beauty within the bull, but when he realizes the danger he is in, the bull became ugly and terrifying. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

FACTS Anatolian New Zeytin Agricultural Co op (ANZAC), which helps a collective group of olive growers and manufacturers in Turkey for 20 years, launched a website called www.anzac.com.tr in English, in January 2013 to inform the global market about Turkish olive agriculture. The website includes comprehensive information about the olive industry in Turkey. Records show that the Co op s website had 100.000 hits from around the world during 15 months but since no products are sold on this website, it did not bring any income to the Co op. The Complainant, Australian Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), is a governmental support organization for people who have served or are serving in the Australian Defence Force. The lawyers claim that the Co op s domain name Anzac , which is known and used in Australia to refer to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps that fought in Gallipoli during World War I against the Turkish army, infringes on the DVA s rights because the domain name that the Co op using in bad faith they said, is confusingly similar to the use of the word Anzac and they contend that the Co op may unlawfully benefit from this symbolic name considering 100th Anniversary of the Gallipoli ... • 12. The Shawl Analysis In The Shawl , Cynthia Ozick uses vivid details throughout the story to engage the reader. The story portrays the hard times Jews had during the Holocaust in a concentration camp consisting of three main characters: Rosa, Stella, and Magda who are trying to survive the horror of Nazism through a magical shawl. Rosa is the mother of Magda, a fifteen month baby and the aunt of Stella, a fourteen year old girl. The shawl is the only thing keeping them alive throughout the story and at the end it leads them to their death. The author s use of symbolism is very significant to the story. Cynthia Ozickuse of symbolism helps the reader visualize the setting by using symbols to convey different meanings and understand how these symbols characterize the experience of the holocaust survivors. First, let s start off with the central symbol Ozick uses, the shawl. The shawl itself carries various meanings to the reader and symbolizes something different to each character. Rosa, Stella and Magda form a group on the basis of their shared illusion concerning the magic shawl (Gordon 322). One of the first symbols the shawl delivers is life and death. This magical shawl has nourished Magda for three days and three nights due to Rosa not being able to produce milk for her. In the story it says The shawl was Magda s own baby, her pet, her little sister. (Ozick 248) which tells us that the shawl has become Magda s life. The shawl somehow seems to feed her, protect her and keep her alive. For Magda, this shawl has become everything: mother, food, clothing, and shelter. (Gordon 322). Even though the shawl in some way kept Magda alive and it symbolized her life, unfortunately at the end it became the symbol of her death. Even though the shawl did not literally wrap her in death, the shawl that nourished her and protected her in life was the same cloth that brought about her death says (Jones 1) Stella started getting cold and took the shawl away from Magda which became the reason of Magda s death. She then started howling after noticing she didn t have her shawl which made a Nazi officer notice her existence and caused her death. Not only does the shawl have a massive meaning in Magda s life but it also symbolizes a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Katherine And Suazo SuazoIn both texts the conflict is very similar, the younger sister Bianca has many suitors but the fatherwill not allow her to date/marry until her older sister Katherine/Katarina does first. The issue is solved once the suitor s find Petruchio/Patrick and pay him to be with her but at the end they actually fall in love. One difference between the film and the play would be in the way that Petruchio/Patrick attempts to captivate her. In the film, he tries to woe her by finding out what her interests are and what she likes in a man. However, in the play he speaks sweet to her but does other wise by being disrespectful and cruel towards her. Furthermore, one of the most noticeable differences was in the main character Katherine. Although Katarina s personality is still antagonistic in the movie, Katherine is a lot more hostile and violent in the play. Bianca pleads, I prithee, sister Kate, unite my hands (Shakespeare). In this instance, Katherine has tied up Bianca s hands because she demands her to tell her truthfully which suitor she likes the most. Bianca is pleading to be untied but since Bianca did not reply with the answer she wanted to hear, Katherine hits Bianca. In the film Katarina never strikes her sister or anyone else to cause harm. It is also the same case with Pettruchio in the play; he is portrayed as even more belligerent compared to Katherine. He also behaves that way towards herwhen he tries to control her by starving her and depriving her sleep. Nonetheless, Patrick seems to be gentler with Katarina and even considerate of her well being. For example, when Katarina becomes intoxicated at a party, Patrick takes care of her until she gets better and takes her home.In addition, there is a huge time gap between the movie and the play, which lead to completely different cultures. The play is based of the 1590 s while the movie is based on the late 1990 s almost borderline 2000 s since it was made in 1999. An obvious difference that can be seen is the language that is being used in the play; it is still English but a much older version. The English being used in Shakespeare play is much more formal and less direct than the one in the movie, which has more cursing and openness to topics such as sex. The type of fashion beingdescribed in the play is nothing alike to the one being used in the film. Petruchio describes the clothing that they will wear when they return to Katherine s house, with silken coats and caps...with ruffs and cuffs and farthingales... (Shakespeare). In the film, the ... • 15. American Imperialism And The Laguna Pueblo History Events that occur throughout a period of time have an interesting effect on the people, places, and landscapes around it. In the course of history, particularly the history of North American Indigenous Peoples, we can see how events have influenced their way of life. Since the arrival of Europeans in North America, it is easy to notice how a singular event can cause shifts within indigenous cultures, communities and the landscape. Although shifts within and between cultures and communities can be good, the shifts Native Americans faced with the arrival of Europeans were usually not. For centuries Natives struggled to preserve their lands, culture, and people as they were slowly being assimilated into the new Euro American way of life and colonization. In this, we can not only see the works of Euro American hegemony but also the fight of Natives to defend and protect their cultural sovereignty. Throughout the course of this essay I am going to explore the ways in which Euro American hegemony and the fight to preserve culture relate to the Laguna Pueblo history in the novel, Ceremony, by Leslie Marmon Silko. The novel, Ceremony, takes place in the early 19th century in the southwest United States. We meet the main character Tayo who is half white and half Laguna Pueblo. His mother had an affair with a white man and left Tayo to be raised by his aunt when he was four. When we first meet Tayo he has recently returned to the reservation after World War II and is ... MYC is known to be a proto oncogene which normally activates gene expression, it can also repress it depending on what gene it sits on. Myc belongs to a family of related human genes which are known through (Hart et al 2010) to have evolved from primordial myc like genes found in Drosophila and Hydra, these include; c MYC, MYC N and MYC L. The expression of c Myc is seen in all tissues whereas MYCN is expressed in the nervous system and MYC L is found initially in the lungs. Inhibition of this pathway was seen to decrease the neuroblastoma tumour mass as well as the oncogene MYCN protein expression, and in neuroblastoma cells lines the use of AKT specific inhibitors induced apoptotic cell death. Another pathway relevant to MYCN is the glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK3) pathway which is known to be involved in a large number of signalling pathways [e.g., Wnt, PI3K/Akt, mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK), and p53], many of which are associated with the neural crest. Wnt signalling is known to be crucial in the induction, delamination and differentiation of the neural crest and GSK3 is seen to be a negative mediator of this pathway. Mammalian GSK3 is generated from two genes GSK3О± and GSK3ОІ, GSK3ОІ phosphorylates and stabilizes the MYCN protein, this in turn can enable the dephosphorylation of a different site that can lead to MYCN degradation. The cell cycle and cell differentiation are processes where they appear to be regulated by sensitive molecular mechanisms such as cyclins. Cell division mechanisms involve protein kinases and their activators which are necessary for the cell cycle to proceed. Silverstein s works captured the essence of a person s childhood and changed poetry and children s literature forever. Sheldon Allan Silverstein was not always the literature icon he quickly became in the mid 20th century. Born on September 25, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois during the Great Depression. He was not a very sociable child. His hobbies included drawing cartoons and writing. As a result, his professional drawing and writing career began with cartooning and writing for Playboy Magazine, in 1952. He was also not popular with girls during his teenage year, which motivated him to write more mature poetry in the future about love. Silverstein wanted to reach out to all age groups and express that his talent was not only used for the entertainment of children, but for everyone. Listening is also important because someone may point out something that I never realized, and criticism goes along with that. I can take criticism well, and I even encourage it. I am always looking to better myself and it helped build me into the musician and person I am today. Furthermore, I do not fear making mistakes. Mistakes are how we learn, and we will never get anywhere if mistakes are never made. Above all, I have a huge desire for helping people succeed. Quite honestly, it wouldn t surprise him if it did. In the wizarding world, anything was possible. Which was sometimes an unprecedented problem. This means that all four test tubes turned out to be positive reactions. The data collected regarding the reactions did not meet the expectation. The expectation was that two out of the four tubes would yield a reaction. To be specific, the expectation was that only one of the first two tubes would have a reaction, and only one of the second two tubes (tubes 3 4) would have a reaction. This was the expectation because the goal of the reactions was to verify the structure of the alkyl halides. The structure of the tert butyl chloride and chlorobutane were in question. If they reacted with NaI, it could be concluded that they were primary alkyl halides. If they reacted with AgNO3, it could be concluded that they were tertiary alkyl halides.... If the test tubes contained traces of both solvents, it would be possible that the alkyl halides would react in all the test tubes. This is because the alkyl halide would react with its preferred solvent, even if the solvent is present in small quantities. If a service member waits until they get out of the military to start college they lose the safety net of the military college office and a steady paycheck. Scientists are still researching on how to artificially clone humans. The amount of technology in this world, anything is possible. The first ever artificially cloned animal, was a sheep named dolly(Stratfor). It took a lot of difficult work for the reproduction. Humans should be cloned for extra body parts. Those extra body parts could save lives. Cloningshould be used in this world, so that no animals could go extinct and humans will hopefully be able to be coned in the future. The earth has created a variety of people and animals. Most of the people and animals are usually different, since people are humans and not animals. Creatures are easier to clone compared humans (Begley). Humans should only be cloned for spare body parts not to have an exact replica of itself. When dolly first became cloned, humans wanted to then be cloned. Several movies about cloning have inspired scientists to research more about cloning. Other movies often have the idea of cloning wrong, like the film Multiplicity , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to not get replicas and clones mixed up. When something is cloned, it means that they have created an embryo, not another human. An embryo contains the same genes and DNA as the adult who got cloned (human cloning). After the Dolly got cloned, scientists knew that it was going to be hard to clone humans. It took a lot of time and effort to get precise on the process. Many people believed that the embryo could just stay in an environment like what the adult lived in. The embryo has to stay in a different environment for the development (Human Cloning). • 41. The Daphnia Magna Experiment Plant compounds play a very important role in the defense of plants and in this experiment the plant defense compounds of caffeine and Kava kava were tested on Daphnia magna to test if there was a change in heartbeat of the organism. The purpose of the experiment was to see how these compounds affected the Daphnia magna. The t values for both the caffeine and Kava kava were calculated to be 1.82 and 1.62, which were both smaller than the obtained t critical value of 2.57. A conclusion was drawn that there was no statistically significant difference in heart rate after the plant defensecompounds of caffeine and Kava kava were added compared to before they were added. Introduction: In this experiment two plant defensive compounds, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their bodies are encased by an uncalcified shell, carapace, and they can reach lengths of 5mm with a kidney bean shape (Ebert, 2005). The Daphnia magna live in mostly freshwater environments, but can live in certain brackish water areas. In comparing males and females the males have smaller body sizes, larger antennas a modified post abdomen (Ebert, 2005). The Daphnia magna are good test subjects to assess the effects of the plant defense compounds of caffeine and Kava kava, as they are easy to care for, inexpensive, and the effects of the compound are easily noted through looking at the heart rate of the organism under a microscope. This experiment required the use of a two tailed t test to determine whether there was a difference in heart of the Daphnia magna before and after the plant defensive compounds (caffeine and Kava kava) were introduced. This test also helps to see if the difference in the test is statistically significant, which determines if the results obtained occurred by chance. A t value is obtained to get the probability value and as the t value increases it signifies a larger meaningful difference between the two groups (Blanar, 2017) and as it decreases the opposite happens. If a t value is smaller than the t critical value the null hypothesis is accepted, but if the obtained t value is larger than the t critical value the null hypothesis is rejected. A p value is also important for this experiment, as it is the probability the null hypothesis is correct. The null hypothesis for this experiment was that there was no difference in the Daphnia magna heart rate after the plant defense compounds (caffeine and Kava kava) were added compared to before, while the alternative hypothesis generated was that there is a difference in the Daphnia magna heart rate after the plant defense compounds (caffeine and Kava kava) were added compared ... • 42. Of ThucydidesBiases And Their Consistencies In Greek History Biases and Their Consistencies in Greek History Humans have made notable accomplishes for many centuries. Only recently in human history have these events been recorded by other humans. As a species we naturally have bias, be that toward our culture or an ideology. Thucydides and Herodotus both had distinct source types as well as biases, but conform to them in different ways reflective of their different writing styles. First we will examine the sources that Thucydidesused and why he uses speeches. Thucydides was the main source of the information as he lived and held command as a general during the Peloponnesian Warup until his exile to Peloponnesian territory (Thucydides p. 102). His position as a general makes Thucydides an excellent eye witness to many of these instances. Thucydides spending time with the Peloponnesians gained him insight into those people and how they would have operated. Thucydides uses himself as his main source as he held a high position in society and would have access to the events of the war. Thucydides also used other s speeches as resources to show insight into the events occurring. He used the Melian dialogue to show the wit of the Athenians and illustrate their impulsive desire to conquer independent cities (Thucydides p. 102 108). This passage illustrates the beginning of the end for the Athenians. The Melians were a colony of the Lacedaemonians and did not take a side in the ongoing war, but Athens eventually probed them to war (Thucydides 102). This foreshadows the battle at Syracuse in which Athens went blindly into out of desire to simply slight the Spartans. Thucydides uses speeches to show insight to the people s thoughts and to add foreshadowing to future events. Herodotus used the account of people and their own traditions as his references in his works. During the beginnings of the war between the Persians and the Greeks Herodotus speaks of the Persian invasion of the Delians. During the Persians departure Herodotus uses the Delians as the reference for the events that unfolded next (Herodotus p. 108). Aside from the mentions of how the stories are sourced from the people Herodotus does not mention where else his sources came from. Herodotus relied heavily on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Widening Income Inequality Inequality has increased within the most advanced and emerging markets and developing countries (EMDCs), a phenomenon that has garnered considerable attention with President Obama calling widening income inequality the defining challenge of our time. Irrespective of culture, religion and ideology, inequality concerns and affects everyone. Inequality can serve as an indication of the shortage of income mobility and opportunity―a reflection of the perpetual disadvantage for certain sectors of society. Increasing inequality also has serious implications for macroeconomic stability and economic growth, it can concentrate political and decision making power in the hands of a few. This in turn results in the inefficient allocation of human resources,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Inequality affects long term growth and cuts short the benefits such growth can bring about through the multiplier effect. So, the need to reduce inequality is apparent. The more progressive the tax is, the more effective it can be to reduce inequality. Progressivity could be strengthened by cutting back on tax expenditures that benefit mostly top income groups (e.g. tax relief on mortgage interest). In addition, removing other tax reliefs would increase equity and allow a growth enhancing cut in marginal labour income tax rates. It would also decrease tax avoidance instruments available for high income earners. Moreover, we have concluded that inheritance tax is deduced to be much more useful in reducing inequality. Therefore, rising inequality warrants the imposition of higher income and inheritance taxes on the rich, with more of an emphasis on higher inheritance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Implications of the Stanford Prison Experiment Essay The Implications of the Stanford Prison Experiment In 1971 Dr Philip Zimbardo conducted an experiment in the basement of Stanford University. This involved imprisoning nine volunteers in a mock up of Stanford prison, which was policed by nine guards (more volunteers). These guards had complete control over the prisoners. They could do anything to the prisoners, but use physical violence. The subjects were all students applying for summer jobs to get some money. To make it a fair test, the subjects were made to take psychological tests to make sure they were mentally fit. It showed that when given power, many will abuse it. This is very useful as we can apply these lessons to a real life situation, which could save thousands of people in a real prison. A conclusion of the experiment is that if you put good people in an evil and unfair place they will become evil. It also makes us conscious of what people are capable of whatever you think of them. The guards acted the worst in the middle of the night it is suggested that this is because the believed they were not being watched. It has been asked if what was learnt was worth the sacrifice of the people involved? I simply think it was worth the sacrifice. The people involved may have suffered mental anguish due to this experiment but they will die, and other people can take their place: but the knowledge gained will not be forgotten so easily. Also I think it is wrong to simply blame the experiment; there is nothing wrong with putting people in a false prison being controlled by other people. What was wrong was the evil the people in control exerted on the prisoners. The BBC has repeated the experiment, which some see as wrong. The repeat of the experiment has been improved by adding several safe guards to protect the prisoners from the guards. However these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many believe that with rank structure the Marine Corps or any other military organization could not function. This is has been proven fact over the centuries by the countless of mob armies that has arisen in history of the fall apart because they had no clear leadership. One of the ways that rank structure is important is that it is like a link of chains. This chain forms a link between the highest officer to the lowest of the enlisted. This chain allows for the anywhere in the chain of command for an order to be issued and it will go down the chain to the level... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is also one of the most important reasons for the rank structure to have been created is that any time a commander can find out the condition of his troops. And this of course is something that every commander especially if the commander is going in to a wartime environment would like to know what strength he is has. Rank structure is vital to the Marine Corps or any military organization because rank structure is the basis of where all discipline in the ranks comes from. Without a rank structure know one would know who is in charge of who and everyone would start to trying to take charge in their own way cause confusion and disorder through the ranks. Also without rank structure, when rules or orders are broken in a military organization it is up to the superior of that person to discipline that person, no one would know who was supposed to merit the discipline or who is supposed to carry out the discipline thus cause more chaos and anarchy. Therefore in conclusion we see that without rank structure, military organization such as the Marine Corps could not function. Without rank structure the Marine Corps would be in disorder and disarray, because it would have no idea who was in charge and who was suppose to be the foot soldiers. Therefore maintaining proper rank structure is the responsibility of the highest ranking officer to the lowest ranking private in boot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. An Introduction Of The Interstate Commerce Act Of 1887 Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 Introduction The Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 is federal law in the United States. It was designed to regulate the railroad industry especially its monopolistic practices. A number of states in US such as Ohio had unsuccessfully attempted to regulate railroads before 1887. Ohio had created a state commission to report on railroad and telegraph rates in 1867 but the commission did not have the authority to change rates or to order the railroad companies to change their policies. Due to failure of states to regulate railroads, the Congress passed the Interstate Commerce Act in 1887. The Act required that railroads charge fair rates to their customers and make those rate public. Background In 1887, Congress passed the Interstate Commerce Act, making railroads the first industry subject to Federal regulation. This law was passed by the Congress largely in response to the public demand that railroad operations be regulated. A five member enforcement board knowns as the Interstate Commerce Commission was also established by the act. In the years following the Civil War, railroads had become the primary form of transportation for both people and goods. They were privately owned and entirely unregulated which gave them a natural monopoly in the areas that only they serviced. Monopolies are normally viewed harmful as they obstruct the free competition that determines the price and quality of products and services offered. The railroad monopolies had the power to set prices, exclude competitors, and control the market in several geographic areas. There was competition among railroads for long haul routes but there was none for the short haul runs. This allowed the railroads to discriminate in the prices by charging a higher price per mile for short hauls than long hauls. They also discriminated in the prices they charged to passengers and shippers in different localities by providing rebates to large shippers or buyers. These practices caused problems to the American farmers who lacked the shipment volume necessary to obtain more favorable rates. The prices charged and the practices adopted by the railroad services greatly influenced individuals and businesses. Railroads also banded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
