Dr Pepper Snapple Group
Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc.
Energy Beverages
Author:
Ravi Sockalingam, PhD
Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. s brand manager Andrew Barker was tasked with recommending the
company s top management if it should decide to introduce a new branded product into the energy
beverage market.
A brief overview of the company s position
Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. maintains a well entrenched position in the flavored carbonated soft
drink (CSD) market. In 2007 he held a market share of the US CSD market. And this share had
been steadily growing year to year. The company is also a leader in the non CSD drink category
that comprises ready to drink tea, juice, juice drinks, enhanced water, drink concentrates and mixer
categories. In addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the growth of CSD is expected to decline. Part of the company s strategy has been to invest in
developing innovative products. The recent use of natural flavors and no artificial preservatives,
and vitamins and proteins in their beverages differentiated Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc s products
from that of the competitors, and helped strengthen their profitability and growth.
The company also has sound knowledge of the marketing channels for the new product. They know
for fact that the highest profit margins from the introduction of a new energy drink would first
come from the convenience store channels in single serve packages. Besides, Dr Pepper Snapple
Group, Inc. had distributed Monster Energy in selected US territories on behalf of Hansen Natural
Corporation.
What factors need to be considered in the decision making process by Dr Pepper Snapple Group
Inc.?
There are several forces that may potentially go against Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc. introducing a
new product in the energy drink market.
There is danger that the company is betting its future based on its successful track record in
introducing leading brands in the crowded OSD and non OSD (including sports) drinks.
The energy drink market is, however, quite different from the OSD and the non OSD drinks the
company owns, distributes and sells.
The projected sales growth of 10.5% from 2007 to 2011 is in fact a low figure compared to an
average growth rate of 42.5 % from

Are Wolves Good Or Bad
Wolves are nearly always portrayed as the bad guy, the one you want to stay away from, because
you know they always cause disaster and havoc in their midst, they kill, and you must be very
clever to escape without harm. Fairy tales and fables are full of examples of wolves; Little Red
Riding hood, The Three Little Pigs, The Boy who Cried Wolf, Lambert the Sheepish Lion, each
with a wolf set about trying to steal something which doesn t belong to it. Even the Savior, Jesus
Christ is our figurative shepherd, and we His sheep, and He keeps us safe from the wolves of life.
This, however, is a blog on marriage, so what do wolves have to do with marriage? I read an article
this week likening the parable of the Good Shepherd, found in the New

Oh, Play that Thing and The Dead Republic by Roddy Doyle
In Roddy Doyle s series Oh, Play That Thing and The Dead Republic the world is shown to the
readers through the eyes of a wise fool, Henry Smart. The series includes a wide variety of
magical realism, and how Henry continues to fight social norms to get what he wants. The idea of
society vs. man and individualism takes a toll on Henry s pride by forcing him to jump from job to
job or from flat to flat that ultimately puts him in disarray. Each book s analysis should be in its
own category, but they have many identical ideas, themes, and characters that bring them together.
The elements of magical realism in a historical series, at first sight seem quite suitable. It is
generally agreed that the picaresque, with its humorous ideas on the social outcasts trying to endure
an aggressive environment, is a sensible move against the romanticize tendency of the plot. Magic
realism, with its limited interruption of mimetic rules, lends itself to a number of uses,
postcolonial being one of them. It introduces elements of grotesque moments that allow the
readers to sense the satirical potentials and it brings in metaphorical aspects to the plate. The
aspects of magical realism seem to play with the readers mind. The convention of picaresque
combined with magical realism builds a wider grotesque vision for the reader. It is not only the
space but also the characters, the main protagonist among them are shaped according to the
defamilliarising rules of this magical picaresque world.

Discuss The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Colonists...
Going into the American Revolution the British and American Colonists had many advantages.
They also had some disadvantages that were usually countered by the other s advantages. I will talk
about each of their advantages and then discuss their disadvantages.
The British had many advantages going into the American Revolution. One advantage is that they
had a professional army that was well trained. By having a well trained army they had a better
chance of winning the battles. The British troops were already in the colonies, the most important
places being the port cities such as New York and Boston. The British had a veteran officer corps.
Their officers had already fought in the French and Indian War. Supply foundations, by having

Because the colonists didn t have a real fighting force, there were very few well trained soldiers,
and even fewer professional soldiers on their side. The British were much better fighters than
they were. The colonists did not have a navy at all, so the British were able to keep sending ships
for supplies and they had control of the seas with their strong navy. The colonists had trouble
finding other nations to trade with because they did not have a vast treasury and the other nations
were fearful of not being paid back if the colonists lost the war. The colonists did not have a strong
central government, which meant that decisions took a long time and many of the different
colonies disagreed. The colonies did not have much support from the Native American tribes and
were fighting them as well as the

Population Growth Between 1880 And 1900
The United States grew at a dramatic rate between the years 1880 and 1900, within the cities. U.S.
cities grew by approximately 15 million people in the two decades before 1900. Many historians
claim that most of the population growth was due to the expansion of industry. It is also believed
that the majority of the populationexplosion was immigrants that were arriving from all over the
world. A good amount of people from the rural areas of America also moved to the cities during
this period in the search of work. Between 1880 and 1890, it is suggested that almost 40 percent of
the townships in the United Stateslost population because of migration. Historians suggest that
Americans that where born during the 1840 s and 1850 s would have

Birth Of A Baby Is The Most Amazing And Miraculous...
Giving birth to a baby is the most amazing and miraculous experiences for a mother and her
loved ones. Every woman s birth story is different and full of excitement. However, the process
from the moment a woman knows that she s pregnant to being in the delivering room is very
critical to both her and the new born baby. Prenatal care is extremely important and it can impact
greatly the quality of life for the baby. In this paper, the topic of giving birth will be discussed
thoroughly by describing the stories of two mothers who gave birth in different decades and see
how their prenatal cares are different from each other with correlation with the advancement of
modern medicine. Christine Le, an accountant lived in Flushing, New York, gave birth to a
healthy baby Nathan on January 29th, 2010. She found out that she was pregnant with her first
child when her period was late. She had the routine pre natal care starting at 12 weeks and
delivered at 40 weeks in a hospital with the present of her husband, Robert, and the in laws.
Christine underwent numerous lab tests to ensure that there are no complications. Lab tests like a
complete blood count (CBC) that screens for blood problems such as anemia or low blood count,
HBsAg help detects hepatitis B or liver infection, urinalysis that can test for kidney disease or
bladder infections. She also underwent blood test to determine her blood type and Rh factor, an

Supply and Demand and Price Essay
1.Name two types of market failure. Explain why each may cause market outcomes to be inefficient.
Market Power In some markets, a single buyer or seller may be able to control the market prices.
Market Power can cause inefficiency because it keeps the price and quantity away from the
equilibrium of supply and demand.
Externalities The impact of one person s actions on the well being of a bystander. Since buyers and
sellers do not consider these side effects when deciding how much to consume and produce, the
equilibrium in a market can be inefficient from the standpoint of society as a whole.
2.What happens to consumer and producer surplus when the sale of a good is taxed? How does the
change in consumer and producer surplus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because people will continue demanding/buying the product. No matter how expensive
bread may become, people will still rely on it as a necessary staple of survival. On the other side of
the coin, when demand is more elastic, the deadweight loss will be greater since the demand
curve is flatter. The less people rely on a service/product the more likely they will be to forfeit its
usage.
4.What does the domestic price that prevails without international trade tell us about a nation s
comparative advantage?
The effects of free trade can be determined by comparing the domestic price without trade to the
world price. A low domestic price indicates that the country has a comparative advantage in
producing that good and that the country will become an exporter. A high domestic price indicates
that the world has a comparative advantage and that the country will become an importer. When a
country becomes an exporter, producers are better off than consumers. When a country becomes an
importer, consumers are stronger than producers. In both situations, the gains from the trade exceed
the losses.
5.What is the difference between the unilateral and multilateral approaches to achieving free trade?
Give an example of each.
Unilateral trade agreement would be any agreement that is imposed on one national by another, and

1. Do you agree that Fate is stronger....than any man s mind? Why or why not?
I believe this to be true for the simple fact that fate is already pre determined, something that you
cannot change. A mans mind is always undecided and, lost for a way to go but fate is unparralled
in its decisiveness. A mans mind is far weaker than fate making this a viable statement.

9. Explain how a person can dislike something as much as the sailor dislikes the sea and yet keep

I would describe this as a fatal attraction. Although the sea causes him pain and eternal loneliness
he returns again and again. His love for the sea overwhelms his dislike making it impossible to stay
away.

Understanding Anglo Saxon Poetry
A lyric poem is one that expresses intense personal emotions. The Seafarer mixes pagan with
Christian beliefs and expresses sorrow for something lost or past. At times the poet s feelings seem
to border on despair.
10. What deep personal feelings does the poet express in the first part of The Seafarer that show
this to be a lyric poem? (See definition above)
I often endured days of struggle, troublesome times, how I have suffered, grim sorrow at heart,.
Accompanied by many more quotes of anguish the poet tells the reaer how he feels through the

Mr Bull Observation
A few weeks after my catch at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, I decided that I wanted a
Charolais. I shared this with my Ag teacher Mr. Hill and my donor Mr. Ligon. Most of the month
of April was spent waiting for Mr. Hill to find a steer in my price range. During the waiting
period I spent a lot of time educating myself on steer selection, feeding, halter breaking and
grooming. Since I have never been around steer before, I left the selection up to Mr. Hill. Mr.
Hill is an expert in determining the structural correctness, definition, balance, set of hock, and
frame size. The first order of business was setting up the pin by disinfecting the floor, laying
cedar bedding, purchasing feed and water buckets, and hanging a hay stack. With all this done,
the pin was ready for my new project. On Monday April 24th, Mr. Hill asked me to meet him at
the barn to look at three steer he purchased and decide which one I wanted. As soon as I walked
into the barn I knew which one I desired, it was the one and only Charolais in the group! Mr. Hill

Concrete Pillars Of Concrete Granite
Concrete slab is above Earth foundation type with a single layer of concrete with thickness of
typically about 4 inches to 6 inches and sometimes reinforce with steel rods. Steel rods or rebar
have a function to make the slab extremely strong and capable of bearing the load. The edges of
the foundation are usually thicker as to allow for more strength around the load in this case, the
live load and static load of rainwater tank. This type of foundation also may be used with the
base soil of low bearing capacity or weak subsoils that might be presents on site. In fact, sandy soil
which known with its low bearing capacity cover a large proportion of the landscape of Cambodia
is appropriate for reinforced concreteslab to be used as the base for the rainwater tank. In term of
amount of material, more material will be used as the area covered must be larger than the
rainwater tank with minimum of 100mm from the edge of rainwater tank compared to concrete
ring wall foundation. However, the concrete slab foundation can be considered cheap and
economically viable for small tanks in which less than 6 m due to its ease construction processes.
The processes have several steps including pouring the slab into the formwork and spreading with
a shovel so all spaces of the formwork are completely filled. Next, the slab surface is flatten and
curing before formwork can be carefully removed after 24 hours (CementAustralia, 2014).
One of the advantages of concrete slab foundation is time

Wal Mart Stores Perhaps one of the most commonly cited success stories in supply chain
management (SCM) is that of Wal Mart Stores, Inc., which reported total sales of $191.329
billion and a net income of $6.295 billion during the fiscal year ended January 31, 2001 (see
www.walmartstores.com). These figures represent a 15.9% growth in total sales and a 17.1%
increase in net income over the immediately preceding fiscal year. International sales accounted
for $32 billion of the total sales figure, increasing 41% over the previous year. Wal Mart, which

Under such a system, the vendor subject to bounds previously agreed upon with the retailer decides
on the appropriate levels of inventory to carry at the retail stores, as well as the corresponding
inventory policies to maintain such levels. In the P G and Wal Mart partnership, P G committed to
the development of a dedicated team to handle the Wal Mart account. A primary objective of this
team is to facilitate information sharing between the two firms and address logistics, supply,
management information systems, accounting, finance, and other issues (Handfield and Nichols,
1999). Under this arrangement, Wal Mart shares point of sale information from retail outlets
directly with P G, giving the latter easy access to information on consumer transactions and
buying patterns. P G s dedicated Wal Mart account team effectively takes responsibility for the
marketing and sales of P G products within Wal Mart stores. Similar VMI partnerships with other
giant retailers have been established by P G. These partnerships have dramatically improved P G s
on time deliveries to Wal Mart and the other retailers while increasing inventory turnovers (Simchi
Levi, et al, 2000; Handfield and Nichols, 1999). At the same time, they save the retailer a significant
amount of managerial and other resources, and demonstrate how information sharing leads to

Reaction Rate Of Lipase
Enzymes are substances made of protein that help stimulate chemical reactions. One of the
enzymes crucial to human health is lipase. Lipase is one of the vital digestive enzymes released
mainly by the pancreas into the small intestine, to help the body process and absorb fats. Lipase is
a digestive enzymethat breaks down triglycerides into fatty acids and glycerol.
Phenolphthalein is an indicator that is pink in alkaline solutions around pH10. When the pH
drops below pH 8.3 phenolphthalein goes colorless. Here, an alkaline solution of milk, lipase and
phenolphthalein will change from pink to colorless as the fat in milk is broken down to form fatty
acids (and glycerol) thus reducing the pH to below 8.3. The time taken for this reaction to occur is
affected by temperature.
Temperate affects the reaction rate as when temperature rises, molecules have greater kinetic energy
resulting in the molecules having greater energy than the activation energy, leading to greater
enzyme activity. However when the temperatures become too high the enzymes start to denature
leading to slower enzyme activity. Most enzymes have an optimum temperature of 37 degrees.
Aim
To investigate the effect that temperature has on the reaction rate of the lipase with fats in full
cream milk.
Hypothesis
The higher the temperature the faster the lipase will react with the fats in full cream milk.
Variables
Independent: The temperate of the water bath
Dependent: Rate of reaction between the lipase

Disobedience In Genesis
Genesis is the first book of the Old Testament. Genesis was written by Moses to the people of
Israel in 1450 1410 B.C. The purpose of Genesis is to display God s creation of the world and his
desire to have people set apart to worship him. Genesis sets the stage for the entire bible. Genesis
has six key themes of focus. First, is the beginning where Genesis explains the beginning of the
world, human history, family, civilization and salvation. Disobedience being the second theme and
Genesis teaches why men are evil. Disobedience occurs when people chose not to follow Gods plan
of living. Then this leads to the third theme which is sin that destroys people s lives. Forth, is the
promises God makes to help and protect us. Fifth, is obedience

Story Of An Hour s Story Of An Hour
The theme of Story Of An Hour I believe the book suggests that marriage, regardless of the good
intentions of the people it joins, necessarily results in repression and a loss of freedom. The story
plays with both irony and tragedy as the shock that her friends fear will kill Louise restores her
freedom, and the joy they anticipate for her is the heartbreak that kills her. The story focuses on the
evils inherent in marriageas an institution, not Louise Mallard s specific relationship, about which
we are told very little.
My proof for my theme her husband s return shatters her hopes. She is again a mere wife,
subservient. This sudden reversal, the destruction of her dreams, kills her. Still, she is spared the

Impact Of Westward Expansion On Economy
A change in the economy can cause lots of problems and can really impact a country in a brutal
way. Meaning an economy can affect a country and its people in a short amount of time and can
plumet a country s wealth, progress, and economy from one wrong decision or move. Westward
expansion was a factor in something that impacted our country. Switching from an agricultural
economy to an industrial also had an impact on our economy and ways of living. Immigration
too had an impact on Americans and American life. Immigrants came to America to be free and
even for a better life. Sometimes this could have meant taking hundreds of American jobs. The
Progressive era is also an affect on our country and economy. The Progressive Era was the era
when Teddy Roosevelt was president and had his goal to progress America and its economy and
country together. Westward expansion was a new thing and time in our country and had many
impacts on the American people and ways of life. The government made it available to buy a lot
more of land in the West. Our government gave opportunities for people to move west for a
better life or more land in the west. The government gave opportunities like the homestead act
where the government would give families 160 acres of land if they moved west at the time this
deal was going on. This act was signed into law by President Lincoln in 1862. People moved west
for any opportunity they could. People moved for a new life, more land, and more opportunities in

History of Thorium
History of thorium
Thorium is naturally a radioactive chemical element, which was discovered in 1828 from the
Norwegian mineralogist Morten Thrane Esmark, and named Thor from Jons Jakob Bezelius, which
means the Norse God of Thunder. Thorium is the most abundant metal found in earth crust and had
been scattered million years ago in the galaxy, with the explosion of meteors known as supernova.
Thorium generates radioactive gas products, as radon 20 decay. Other decay by products of thorium
are radium and actinium. But, thorium is found in nature as thorium 232, which has a half life and
endures under alpha decay. Thorium decay produces a significant amount of internal heat energy.
Thorium is found in the same amount as lead, and four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the disadvantages of using thorium fuel is the production of 233Pa, an halfway product
which produces 233U. 233 Pa relatively has a half life of 27 days and produces a great amount of
233U. And a second disadvantage of using thorium fuel is the contamination of 232U, due to the
high energy of gamma radiation that is emitted from one of its decay products. Uranium 235
reactors are known as nuclear reactors, which are capable to produce a significant amount of
nuclear weapons. With the uranium 235 reactors people were able to make nuclear weapons,
presenting a non safety and non stability environment. Also the production of uranium 235 presents
the wastage of its radioactive byproducts in the environment, which requires a hundred years to
decay.
What is the status of constructing a thorium reactor to produce power? Thorium reactors based
on their safety, cleanness and the ability to produce a large amount of energy has triggered the
idea of constructing thorium reactor as an easy way to produce any source of power. There are
several thorium reactors that are used to produce power : Heavy Water Reactor( PHWRs) this is a
reactor based on thorium fuel due to the combination of neutrons that can be absorbed to produce
233U, an average of neutron energy produced and flexible in recycling fuel ability. High

Descriptive Essay On The Sea World
A few years ago on a hot summer day, a short Asian boy stared at the sky at disbelief. A roller
coaster loomed over him, and the shadow of it cast over his face. In a few hours later, he found
himself strapped into a seat on the ride, terrified to death. And that short Asian boy turned out to
be me. Mom, my sister, Julianne, and I were at Sea World in San Antonio. Although we ve
already been there multiple times, she insists on going there. It probably has to do with us
having a membership and her being a cheap Asian mom. She wouldn t let us buy any food or
drinks, or any souvenirs. Except that dumb stuffed penguin that she bought Julianne that she
managed to rip in my room and make a huge mess that I had to clean up. Anyways, the shows at
Sea World are always the same, so we are left with a few choices, to rewatch the shows, go to
new animal exhibits, or go on some rides. We quickly went through the new exhibits, and between
all these exhibits were the two largest rides in the park. One of them was what I call the traditional
roller coaster, where it goes up slowly so you can enjoy the beautiful view of the park, then plunge
down suddenly, your heart filled with fear and your ears filled with screams. The other was even
worse. It twisted around and went upside down and then went to the moon. Suddenly, Mom
asked Would you like to ride any those rides? You seem really bored riding these kid rides with
Julianne? Two things popped up in my mind. The wimpy side of me was saying: No, there is no
way you are going on those roller coasters. The other side of me said: Sure, I don t want the only
teenager to be riding Big Bird s Ferris Wheel any more. It came out like this: Yeahno, sure, that
sounds great, no, shut up, me. It did not sound great. And yes, I did talk to myself. Then, she
bribed me with Hot Cheetos. I love Hot Cheetos more than anything. Sadly, finding any snack
food at my house is like finding an oasis in a desert, once I get closer, I realize there are no Hot
Cheetos. Once in a blue moon, Mom would buy a large bag of Hot Cheetos, and the day after the
blue moon, the bag will mysteriously disappear. And so I had to say yes. I haven t mooched on
the legendary snack food in what seems like decades.

Jealousy In John Knowles A Separate Peace
Jealousy is an emotion very evident in our society. We often compare ourselves to others, noticing
what they have that we do not, most commonly in terms of money or looks. Even those close to us
spark our jealousy, maybe a friend or sibling; although most wouldn t admit the fact. Author John
Knowles touches on this subject in his first published novel A Separate Peace. Through the voice
of Gene, Knowles uses figurative language in a self deprecating tone to show jealousy, as evident in
the passage, The second wave, as it tore toward the beach with me, spewed me a little ahead of it,
encroaching rapidly; suddenly it was immeasurably bigger than I was, it rushed me from the
control of gravity and took control of me itself; the wave threw me

Career As A Pharmacy Technician
Many years ago when I first decided to pursue a career as a Pharmacy Technician, I always
believed that I would be working in a retail pharmacy chain such as CVS or Duane Reade. As a
CVS customer, I would see the Pharmacist and Technicians working diligently behind the counter.
I told myself I want to do that, I wanted to help people take away their pain and begin the healing
process. My career started and I was typing and filling prescriptions for 8 hours with the occasional
break to help a customer find something within the store. I never considered working in a hospital
Pharmacybecause I never experienced what that was like first hand. After working a year at CVS,
I was eligible to take the PCTB exam to become a certified Pharmacy technician(CPhT). While
studying the material there was another side of Pharmacy that I never knew about. I learned
about hospital Pharmacy, it has the same day to day operation that retail does but more. Having a
degree in Chemistry from SUNY Stony Brook University, labs were a big part of my education.
The idea of a cleanroom and compounding medication excited me; the closest to compounding in
retail was reconstituting antibiotic medication for children. This involved measuring and mixing
water into a bottle. I left retail and searched for a job that would further advance my pharmacy
knowledge. I started working at NYULMC Pharmacy, here I was exposed to information
technology that was far more sophisticated compared to retail. As I

the Luftwaffe. (RFID 2005). This paper is a very brief review of literature about RFID and its pros
and cons with respect to the cosmetics industry.
Methodology
I input the search term RFID into a journal database and got thousands of hits that s too many to
be useful, so I added a limiter: RFID cosmetics. This came back with only a handful, which I m
using in this paper. I also input RFID pros cons and got a few more, which I ll also include. The
obvious conclusion is that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tracking inventory is obviously one use for RFID; it s also useful for tracking library books,
and many sources discussed this aspect of the technology. On the plus side, RFID can improve
user self check in and check out because it s much faster than bar code readers and can scan a lot
of items simultaneously (Smart 2004, p. SS4). It s also proven to be extremely helpful in
finding lost books: California State University in Long Beach found 500 lost volumes that
would have cost $40,000 to replace (Smart 2004, p. SS4). The downside here is that patrons
have found ways to remove the tags, books are disappearing (Smart 2004, p. SS4). Also,
although it is thought the price of the tags and readers, wands and equipment necessary to
implement the system will come down, right now they are very expensive and will remain so
for the foreseeable future (Smart 2004, p. SS4). Smart also authored another article that is a
good resource as it lists the providers of RFID systems to libraries. They include Bibliotheca
RFID Library Systems, FlashScan and Checkpoint (Smart 2004, p. SS17). This article is a
rundown of suppliers, but it does provide prices (running into hundreds of thousands, usually)
and contact points, so it could be very helpful. In a perceptive article about library science and
RFID, Joe Moffitt says that libraries really don t do well in providing IT services; 75% of

to stay at home and near a bathroom because it causes loose, frequent stools and diarrhea so
everything will be emptied out. In the procedure a thin, flexible tube that is about 48 inches to 72

What Are The Four Chambered Heart
Fish have a two chambered heart with one atrium and one ventricle. Oxygen diffusion occurs in the
gills. Amphibians have a three chambered heart with two atria and one ventricle. Reptiles have a
four chambered heart with two atria and two ventricles. However, there is mixing of blood because
the ventricle separation is incomplete. Birds and mammals both have a four chambered heart. All of
these hearts contain valves and the rest of the body receives bloodthrough arteries (which carry
oxygenated blood away from the heart) and veins (which carry deoxygenated blood back to the
heart) and capillaries (where the two meet). The cardiac cycle is the period during which the heart
fills with blood and pumps it out. During one cycle, it receives deoxygenated

Reading Comprehension As An Intermediate Level
Reading Comprehension Jennifer told me that she is able to understand only the basics of
English, but she is not able to understand big/difficult words. She does not like to read and she
does not read too often. Jennifer only reads when she needs to read in school, but she does not
read outside school. As far as I know, she is not doing well in the class and she is been getting F
s since she started the school year. Her tests scores have been very low and one reason it could be
that she does not comprehend everything that she is reading. Due to the low scores, I would also
consider her reading comprehension as an Intermediate level because she understands the basics.
Listening Comprehension Jennifer does not have a good listening comprehension since she does
not understand the lecture. The teacher always needs to give her time during class because she
does not understand all the material. She says that she understands better when she reads than when
she is listening. Again, I would consider that her listening comprehension level is Intermediate.
Informal, Every Day language From my point of view, Jennifer uses more informal language in her
every day life. I think that her academic English vocabulary is not complex. For instance,
Young people that use social media or any other type of activity such as texting, tagging, and
computer games tend to learn what is called the slang language. Many teenagers abbreviate words
or most of the time they make the words shorter.

Causes Of Rural Urban Divide Of China
Causes of Rural Urban Divide: Hukou China s rural urban gaps are much larger than those found in
most other developing countries. This rural urban divide can be traced back to before the first
economic reform. Beginning in the 1950s, China separated urban and rural residents through a
strictly enforced household registration system (hukou) and focused mainly on the development of
urban cities. Hukou refers to permanent residency status and can be extremely hard to get in major
cities since it is tie to benefit levels, which differ across provinces and between urban residents and
rural residents. An urban hukou provides a relatively comprehensive system of health care and
retirement pensions in that particular city, while a rural hukou a much lower standard of welfares.
Furthermore, data shows hukou also significantly affects people s labor market return and wages
through its influence on their return to education. Individuals human capital was largely
determined by the place (rural versus urban) where they were born and received their education,
which highlights the role of China s rural urban divide in shaping people s labor market return.
From 1980 to 2010, China relied on a uniquely successful investment and export led development
model for its 30 year miracle of double digit GDP growth. However, to make rapid industrialization
possible, China directed most of its investments to the cities, financed massive urban infrastructure
and development projects. In result of

Cruelty, By Stanley Milgram
Mohammad Asif Mohammad Prof: S.Bridges Essay 5 April 19, 2016 Cruelty The amount of
cruelty one possess varies individually depending on the situations an individual has experienced
throughout their life. This is why Milgram received such shocking results in his obedience
experiment and why only a few reacted in Darley and Latane s studies. Although cruelty is within
from birth, the test subjects in Milgram s, Darley and Latane s experiment had no intentions of
being cruel because they believed they were simply following orders and still fighting a personal
conflict which is to respond or not to a situation, while still conforming to the norms of social
etiquette. Cruelty is something that is innate. It is not something we learn but rather something that
is nurtured into existence. Individually, cruelty levels differ from one to another as each being
may have experienced different situations causing them to react differently. In the experiment
conducted by Stanley Milgram, a psychologist who wanted to test the level of cruelty a normal
citizen would go to when instructed by a person of authority. He brought in many different people
as the test subjects and as we see from the results how each persons obedience to inflict pain on
someone else differed amongst the subjects, we understand this is the results of their cruelty that is
within. This experiment was set up in a room where there was a teacher who was the test subject

The American Counterculture Movement
The American counterculture movement began with the assassination of U.S. President John F.
Kennedy, the termination of the United States combat involvement in Southeast Asia, the end of
the draft in 1973, and the resignation of President Richard M. Nixon in 1974. Students for a
Democratic Society (SDS) was the main organizational groups of the campus based radical
movement known as the New Leftin the 1960s. The New Left was a term used to describe the left
wing movements in the 1960s and 1970s.
Students for a Democratic Society were the largest and most influential radical student organization
of the 1960s. At the beginning, there were just a few dozen members, inspired by the civil rights
movement and initially concerned with equality, economic justice, peace, and participatory
democracy. With the escalation of the Vietnam War, SDS grew rapidly as young people protested
the destruction wrought by the United States government and military. Polite protest turned into
stronger and more determined resistance as rage and frustration increased all across the country.
We are people of this generation, bred in at least modest comfort, housed now in universities,
looking uncomfortably to the world we inherit, according to the manifesto known as the Port Huron
Statement. The Port Huron Statement was created by 60 young Americans who traveled in June
1962 to a retreat at the base of Lake Huron, Michigan, to hash out their beliefs about social change.

The Health Of Health Care Insurance
The eating habits of people in the modern days have led to the increased health complications.
Most people are therefore turning to medical care through specialists such as nutritionists in order
to learn how to keep their bodies healthy. In addition due to the uncertainty of disease attack and its
severity, people have turned to health care insurance. Health care insurance is a medical plan that is
aimed at benefiting an insured person by covering the medical and surgical expenses (Enthoven,
2003).
The insured is the person who is covered by the policy and can be said to be the owner of the
health insurance policy. The provider on the other hand is the specific insurance service provider
and can fall in various categories such as: doctor, clinic, laboratory or pharmacy. Therefore, health
insurance policy in this modern days translates to any payment plans that is meant to cover
emergency procedures and which are mostly of a high cost. Health care insurance in some countries
is included in the employment benefit package as an employment incentive. This is mostly the case
in countries without universal healthcare covers, an example of such is the USA.
Consumers in a way deceive themselves by believing that this medical covers protect their own
health (Enthoven, 2003). The payment plan develops a mindset of total reliance on the medical
industry and medical services instead of focusing on their quality of life. In this view, a need arises

Just a year later, Gorbachev had become the youngest member of the Politburo. The Politburo is
the executive committee for a number of communist political parties. The first ever Politburo
was created by the Bolshevik party in 1917. Gorbachev worked closely under General Secretary
Yuri Andropov watching how he succeeded in the Politburo. When Andropov died, Gorbachev
was quick to replace him for the position that he so closely eyed. Unfortunately Mikhail lost to
Konstantin Chernenko, nevertheless Mikhail wouldn t give up for what he worked so hard for.
13 months later Chernenko died, opening the doors for Gorbachev to become the General
Secretary of the Politburo at the very young age of 54. He was the only general secretary in the
history of the Soviet Union to have been born during Communist era.
Milestones: Gorbachev had many awards and accolades during his lifetime, but none were as great
as becoming the General Secretary of the Politburo in 1985. Mikhail wouldn t stop at just that, he
felt that the country could be better, be greater than what it was at the current moment in time.
Gorbachev realized that the Soviet Union s economy and country morale was seriously suffering
from the excessive spending on nuclear weapons during the Cold War. During his time as General
Secretary he had a strained relationship with American president Ronald Reagan.

Language and the Human Understanding Through Time Essay...
If we were time travelers, would we be able to understand our ancestors? Would we even be
speaking the same language? Important questions about the definition of a language arise when
temporal shifts come into play. Where is the line between a new language, and simply a dialect?
Were Shakespeare and Chaucer writing in different languages? Does Barack Obama use a different
dialect than George Washington did? The deciding factor of whether a languagehas evolved past the
point of dialectical variation is mutual intelligibility, which can apply to linguistic changes based on
geography, ethnicity, and, although it is less concrete, time. But this begs an important question:
how can we test this? Because we are relying solely on textual... Show more content on

If two dialects of a language change enough because of the combination of geographic distance and
time so that the dialect from one region is not understandable by the people using the other dialect,
then the two are no longer dialects of one language. Instead, they have become two entirely different
languages. Although it is, for the most part, impossible to isolate geography from time, it is
possible to isolate time from geography. The rule of mutual intelligibility still applies: when a
language changes to the point where its modern users cannot understand its traditional texts, then
the traditional language and the modern one can be considered two separate languages. Mutual
unintelligibility is not the case with the English used today as compared to the English used in the
late 1770s. For example, Barack Obama and George Washington, although there may have been
small discrepancies, undoubtedly would have been able to understand each other s writing and
speech. We, as students at the University of Chicago, frequently read texts written in the 1770s and
before, and are able to comprehend them even if they are unabridged. English has not changed
enough in the last two hundred years to constitute two separate languages. However, when it comes
to Shakespeare and Chaucer, it is difficult to say whether they would have been able to understand
each other. Although the time gap between them was roughly the same as the one between Obama

QT Interval Prolongation
QT interval prolongation:
The prolongation of the electrocardiographic QT interval (QT) is common in cirrhosis; with
prevalence that exceeds 60% in patients with an advanced disease. Variant prevalence may come
about due to different methods to correct QT by heart rate (QTc): Bazett s formula is widely
employed, but it does not totally suppress the relationship between QT and heart rate. This is
pertinent in cirrhosis, where sinus tachycardia is usually present. A particular cirrhosis formula has
been determined, which is very close to the Fridericia s one. In this manner, the last can be
unquestionably utilized as a part of this setting (Zambruni et al., 2008).
The pathophysiology of QT prolongation in cirrhosis has not been defined; portal

Analysis Of The Suffering Servant Of Isaiah 53
Bock s book is a compilation of essays by a number of different people who believe that Jesus is
the Messiah and as the title shares, that Jesus is the Suffering Servant of Isaiah 53. There are three
parts that the volume is divided into. Richard Averbeck starts off the text by analyzing Christian
interpretations of Isa 52.13 53.12. The chapter supplies a helpful discussion of Franz Delitzsch s
interpretation of a three level pyramid. In the pyramid, the servant songs in Isaiahhave a sweeping
reference to Israel as an elect nation as well as a more specific indication to the remnant within
Israel. Then the most precise referent being the Suffering Servant who exemplifies the assignment
of the remnant for Israel and Israel for the nations.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two sermons are used to show the reader how to preach Isaiah 53. John S. Feinberg gives a
timely discussion on the postmodern themes in Isaiah 53. Feinburg puts emphasis on the
narrative of postmoderns and stresses the personal narrative structure of the chapter by
asserting, It is also the story of a God who wants so desperately to have a relationship with his
people that he sent his servant to tell them and show them how much he cares for them (p. 214).
Mitch Glaser presents his own testimony of how Isaiah 53 was useful in his own growth and
testimony. He overviews some of the differing methods in which Isaiah 53 has been and is used
in evangelism to Jewish people. Then he analyzes the polemical use from contemporary
objections and responses to those objections to Isaiah 53. He explains orthodox Jewish objections
to Isaiah 53 s use by Christians as opposed to the average Jewish person s more secular outlook to
the passage. Too often, we assume that Jews think like Christians when it comes to God s holiness,
personal sin, and blood atonement. However, this is not so.
The scholarship of the book overall is terrific. It includes well known and trustworthy scholars
providing the solid and competent scholarship I was expecting. The Evangelical side of some of
the authors was not as strong as it could have been, especially in the discussion of the historical
critical approach to Isaiah. The evangelistic aim of the book may confuse some; however, the clear
aim is to convert. The writiers are only taking the commandment of God to make disciples and
preparing fellow Christians with the knowledge they may need when approaching a

The True Essence Of Being Great Essay
ohermosa2493@gmail.com
I.INTRODUCTION
The true essence of being great is to be the servant of all, as what Jesus shared with his disciples in
the story of the parable of the labourers in the vineyard and I quote:
Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and give
His life a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:28).
I am blessed to have been a part of the Superintendent s Leadership Program (SLP) Batch 2 of the
Department of Education in partnership with De La Salle University, the Philippines Australia
Human Resource and Organisational Development Facility (PAHRODF), Eugenio Lopez Center
(ELC) and Knowledge Channel.
According to Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro, FSC, SLP is a journey with the generals expected
to be the frontliners of the entire transformation initiative of the department. Eugenio Lopez
Center is the place for that dream to transform the kind of education we have in the Philippines. I
could vividly remember that statement and it has moved me to give my best as a Schools
Division Superintendent of the Schools Division of Bayawan City. No matter how small that city
division maybe, but if it will have the great leadership, it will make the difference. According to
Maxwell, everything falls and rises in leadership ( Maxwell,2007).
Perhaps our greatest power in life is the power to choose. Without question, choices are the most
determining factor in how our lives turn out. ( Maxwell,2007).

Lang and Patel both have different ideas of what strategy should be implemented in India. The
target customer is a major difference where Patel wants to focus on the low end brushes for first
time users, when Lang thinks it is better to concentrate on mid range brushes and battery operated
products for customers with higher income. The three primary messages that the company uses to
market their products are:
1) Persuading consumers to brush for the first time
2) Increasing the incidence of brushing and
3) Persuading consumers to upgrade to midrange or premium products.
Patel, who wants to focus on reaching consumers buying the low end products, essentially needs to
imbue most of the advertising budget into the first message, which persuades consumers to brush
for the first time. This is because 50% of Indians are not concerned with preventing or curing
dental problems, especially in rural areas, if she aims to significantly improve sales she needs to
educate these customers on the importance of oral hygiene. By educating this group, Cottle can
capture this demographic and make a great profit. It is essential to start with this huge demographic
of Indians who do not use tooth brushes to turn them into lifelong customers who will later on
purchase more advanced dental products to

Travelling Grace Paley Analysis
One of Man s Most Powerful Weapon: Words. It has always been said that the tongue is man s
most powerful weapon but, perhaps it is the words that the tongue speaks or the power behind
the words spoken. Literature is a body of written works. Literature can be anything from a
speech to the lyrics of a song. Something new is always learned from literature even if it is
minute. Depending on the message being sent, words have the power to provoke, calm or even
inspire. In Travelling by Grace Paley, the author s mom and sister are on the bus going to
Virginia. They were laws that allowed segregation on buses during this era, the blacks sat in the
back and the whites sat in front. At one point in the story, the bus came to a stop and they were
asked to move since they were in the black section of the bus. In silent protest, My mother said
no (Paley 335). Later on in the story, those characteristics are passed on to the author herself.
This is because the word NO provoked her to stand firm in her beliefs , In a loud voice he
addressed me: Lady, I wouldn t of touched that thing with a meat hook. I thought, Oh this world
would end in ice. I could do nothing but look straight into his eyes. I did not look away from him.

David Mcletein Theory Of Needs Theory
This theory of needs was popularized by David McClelland. He is a behavioural psychologist in
American. According to McClelland, the motivators in the theory are learned. That why this theory
sometimes was called the Learned Needs Theory. It was building on earlier work of Henry Murray
in 1928, David McClelland (1961) was make an experiment that the motivation of an individual

instruction to his subordinates to do the work. A high needs for institutional power means that
people like to organize the efforts of others to achieve the goals of the organization. High power
people enjoy competition and status oriented positions. While these people are attracted to
leadership roles, the may not possess the required flexibility and people centred skills. It shows

Coriander Research Paper
Coriander is a spice consisting of seeds from the coriander plant, which is also known as
cilantro. Powdered or ground coriander is made by grinding these seeds. The ground seed is
much easier to use but has a considerably shorter shelf life than whole seeds. How you store your
coriander can have a significant impact on how well it resists spoilage. The right storage methods
can help you to keep your coriander fresh for a long time. Use Airtight Containers
You should store whole and ground coriander seeds in airtight containers to protect them from
moisture and light as well as from air and high temperatures. When stored properly, whole
coriander can keep for as long as a year and ground coriander can keep for two to six months.

Heat speeds up chemical reactions and can speed up the rate at which volatile compounds
evaporate. A higher temperature is likely to result in the evaporation of the coriander s volatile
oils, which means that it will lose its pungency. Store in a Dark Location
Light can cause photodegradation, which may result in your coriander losing flavor and aroma. To
prevent this, you should store the spice in opaque containers. Storing Coriander in the Refrigerator
If you decide to store your coriander in the refrigerator, be aware of the problem of moisture.
Moisture is the enemy of most ground spices, including coriander and is one of the reasons that
your containers should be airtight. Exposure to excessive humidity can cause ground coriander to
clump and to lose its flavor and aroma faster. As a result, it is strongly recommended that you do
not store coriander for regular use in the refrigerator or in the freezer. Removing the container from
the cold environment and opening it can result in condensation forming on the interior of the spice
container, which means that your spices will be exposed to

Taking a Look at Def Leppard
Have you ever turned on the radio in your vehicle and heard an out rageous rock song? Yeah that
s right it s Def. Leppard. They have been tour and doing shows for twenty five plus year and still
jamming as we speak. This band has been through just about everything you could think of and
surprisingly they are still together after drug over dose, care accident, and divorcees. First of all
Def. Leppard should get this award because they have very good musical and are a pretty sweet
bad. The other reasons I think they should get this award is because they have a lot of
achievements. The first achievement that I liked was they were on the Bill Board 200 with their
song Hysteria , sold 10,000 in the first week of it being out, and also with the song Hysteria spent
six weeks at number one and 133 weeks on the Bill Board 200. (Caulfield 57) There next
achievement was that there was a big accident and there main drummer lost his arm. So he was
back to playing the drums. That s when they made the big hit Hysteria in 1983 whit there album
Pyromania after the car accident. (Tamenbaum 16). There next big achievement was that Phil Collen
and Vivian Campbell had there amazing guitar abilities over looked. (Hammond 16 20). The
next achievement I believe is very good because Def. Leppard and Kiss are paring up to go on tour
to support our troops in the U.S.A. (Fekadu) The next award that they received was The 2008

Why Do Americans Perceive Their Culture As Egalitarian,...
1. Why do Americans perceive their culture as egalitarian, and their society as basically fair and
equal? Is this consistent with reality? Explain.
American perceive their culture to be far because the media hides the gross inequities from the
public until they feel it is important to discuss. However, even when the media relays the messages
they are obscured from the actual truth. So, the American people think their culture is fear and
equal, but it is just an illusion created by the media.
2. How do the media play role in perpetuating inequality?
The media shapes the way Americans see our society, but it s what goes unreported that should
worry the American people. For instead, the poor and the poverty they face is the biggest
misconception portrayed by the media. The media dehumanizes the poor and makes them into
statistics or averages, rather than the people and children who are suffering to survive. Also,
when the poor are discussed they are discussed through the eyes of a middle class person which
portrays the poor like nuisance or a hassle. They blame the poor for being victims of poverty,
claiming they must have brought it on themselves. While, people read or listen to the media their
perception of others are shaped upon the tone and emotions coming from the reporter. The
American people are oblivious to the something falsely represented stories or headlines, they tend
to believe the media no matter if the information is true or false.
3. How does the media operate as an ideological tool of the rich? Explain
The article states, how media is operated by the upper class, which gives them power over the
American people and the way American s proceed things. The wealth media operators use their
power to shape our social class structure, by only telling us things to further help them. They put a
bad taste in your mouth for welfare and convince us to resent the people below us for all America s
problems. Nevertheless, they are the elite privilege, who act as a ruling government with the media
being their choice of weapon against the less fortune it.

Buddhist Ethnography Essay
The Buddhist Experience Buddhism is a religion that focuses more on the individual and the
actions of that individual, which was prevalent to me when I made my way into Portland and set
foot in a Buddhist temple. The man I met within the walls of this temple was far from my
stereotypical thoughts of Buddhist monks. The man I met looked like your plain old, average
Joe, American man. Before I delve into the depths of my visit to this inspiring place, I need to
sum up the Buddhist religion and why I chose to study this particular group of people. First,
Buddhism. Buddhism is a religion based off of the idea that there is a path that one can take to

The Eight folds are: Right understanding, Right thought, Right speech, Right action, Right
livelihood, Right effort, Right mindfulness, and Right concentration. This is the way that
everyone should live if they want to achieve enlightenment along the Buddhist path. This is not
the only thing that Siddhartha taught though. Like every single religion since the beginning of
time, there is a list of rules. Christianity has the 10 Commandments, Islam has the Five Pillars of
Islam, and Buddhism has the Religious Reformations of Buddha. Unlike most religions,
Buddhism strays from the focus on an all mighty deity or deities. Buddhism preaches five
different logics that deviate from the norm when it comes to religious ideals: first, Strive after
enlightenment with due diligence. This means you must put a lot of effort into the job of
enlightenment if you wish to achieve it. Second, there will be no metaphysical theorizing. This
is the one that seems to throw a wrench into the ideals of every religion before it, there is no
God and if you even think that there is a God, you are disgracing the Buddhist way of life.
Buddhism is a way of life, it is not a religion with a holy God. Third, there is no tradition, no ritual.
The teachings themselves are supposed to lead you, but if you do not know yourself, there is no

Mrs. Mallard Deceiving
The first few lines of Kate Chopin s, The Story of An Hour are deceiving because of the natural
assumptions the reader makes based on societal ideals. As the story goes on, it becomes more

woman in 1894 be happy about news of her husbandpassing away? He was her source of income

Mallard says how seeing her husbands dead body will be upsetting, but describes him as the face
that had never looked save with love upon her (429). Her saying this depicts how she truly feels
about her marriage and thinks that her husband didn t really love her. She begins to realize the
freedom she will be able to experience now that he is gone. Mrs. Mallard says But she saw
beyond that bitter moment a long procession of years to come that would belong to her
absolutely. (429). She is dreaming of the independence she can now experience and does not
want to look back. This challenges society because most women would feel threatened, alone,
and vulnerable at the thought of having no income or man, but she views it as the beginning of
her life. She would live for herself. (Chopin 429). This goes against everything her society believes.
Mrs. Mallard craves the independence she has never been able to experience because of society s
limited scope on life and marriage. Mrs. Mallard is ahead of her time which is what has made her
life so hard up until this point where she finally feels relief. She keeps saying Free! Body and soul
free! (429) which makes her seem almost delusional as if she had been dreaming of this for some
time. She dreams of Spring days, and summer days, and all sorts of days that would be her own.

  • 2. Dr Pepper Snapple Group Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. Energy Beverages Author: Ravi Sockalingam, PhD Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. s brand manager Andrew Barker was tasked with recommending the company s top management if it should decide to introduce a new branded product into the energy beverage market. A brief overview of the company s position Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. maintains a well entrenched position in the flavored carbonated soft drink (CSD) market. In 2007 he held a market share of the US CSD market. And this share had been steadily growing year to year. The company is also a leader in the non CSD drink category that comprises ready to drink tea, juice, juice drinks, enhanced water, drink concentrates and mixer categories. In addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And the growth of CSD is expected to decline. Part of the company s strategy has been to invest in developing innovative products. The recent use of natural flavors and no artificial preservatives, and vitamins and proteins in their beverages differentiated Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc s products from that of the competitors, and helped strengthen their profitability and growth. The company also has sound knowledge of the marketing channels for the new product. They know for fact that the highest profit margins from the introduction of a new energy drink would first come from the convenience store channels in single serve packages. Besides, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. had distributed Monster Energy in selected US territories on behalf of Hansen Natural Corporation. What factors need to be considered in the decision making process by Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc.? There are several forces that may potentially go against Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc. introducing a new product in the energy drink market. There is danger that the company is betting its future based on its successful track record in introducing leading brands in the crowded OSD and non OSD (including sports) drinks. The energy drink market is, however, quite different from the OSD and the non OSD drinks the company owns, distributes and sells. The projected sales growth of 10.5% from 2007 to 2011 is in fact a low figure compared to an average growth rate of 42.5 % from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Are Wolves Good Or Bad Wolves are nearly always portrayed as the bad guy, the one you want to stay away from, because you know they always cause disaster and havoc in their midst, they kill, and you must be very clever to escape without harm. Fairy tales and fables are full of examples of wolves; Little Red Riding hood, The Three Little Pigs, The Boy who Cried Wolf, Lambert the Sheepish Lion, each with a wolf set about trying to steal something which doesn t belong to it. Even the Savior, Jesus Christ is our figurative shepherd, and we His sheep, and He keeps us safe from the wolves of life. This, however, is a blog on marriage, so what do wolves have to do with marriage? I read an article this week likening the parable of the Good Shepherd, found in the New ... • 4. Oh, Play that Thing and The Dead Republic by Roddy Doyle In Roddy Doyle s series Oh, Play That Thing and The Dead Republic the world is shown to the readers through the eyes of a wise fool, Henry Smart. The series includes a wide variety of magical realism, and how Henry continues to fight social norms to get what he wants. The idea of society vs. man and individualism takes a toll on Henry s pride by forcing him to jump from job to job or from flat to flat that ultimately puts him in disarray. Each book s analysis should be in its own category, but they have many identical ideas, themes, and characters that bring them together. The elements of magical realism in a historical series, at first sight seem quite suitable. It is generally agreed that the picaresque, with its humorous ideas on the social outcasts trying to endure an aggressive environment, is a sensible move against the romanticize tendency of the plot. Magic realism, with its limited interruption of mimetic rules, lends itself to a number of uses, postcolonial being one of them. It introduces elements of grotesque moments that allow the readers to sense the satirical potentials and it brings in metaphorical aspects to the plate. The aspects of magical realism seem to play with the readers mind. The convention of picaresque combined with magical realism builds a wider grotesque vision for the reader. It is not only the space but also the characters, the main protagonist among them are shaped according to the defamilliarising rules of this magical picaresque world. ... • 5. Discuss The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Colonists... Going into the American Revolution the British and American Colonists had many advantages. They also had some disadvantages that were usually countered by the other s advantages. I will talk about each of their advantages and then discuss their disadvantages. The British had many advantages going into the American Revolution. One advantage is that they had a professional army that was well trained. By having a well trained army they had a better chance of winning the battles. The British troops were already in the colonies, the most important places being the port cities such as New York and Boston. The British had a veteran officer corps. Their officers had already fought in the French and Indian War. Supply foundations, by having soldiers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because the colonists didn t have a real fighting force, there were very few well trained soldiers, and even fewer professional soldiers on their side. The British were much better fighters than they were. The colonists did not have a navy at all, so the British were able to keep sending ships for supplies and they had control of the seas with their strong navy. The colonists had trouble finding other nations to trade with because they did not have a vast treasury and the other nations were fearful of not being paid back if the colonists lost the war. The colonists did not have a strong central government, which meant that decisions took a long time and many of the different colonies disagreed. Every woman s birth story is different and full of excitement. However, the process from the moment a woman knows that she s pregnant to being in the delivering room is very critical to both her and the new born baby. • 8. Supply and Demand and Price Essay 1.Name two types of market failure. Explain why each may cause market outcomes to be inefficient. Market Power In some markets, a single buyer or seller may be able to control the market prices. Market Power can cause inefficiency because it keeps the price and quantity away from the equilibrium of supply and demand. Externalities The impact of one person s actions on the well being of a bystander. Since buyers and sellers do not consider these side effects when deciding how much to consume and produce, the equilibrium in a market can be inefficient from the standpoint of society as a whole. 2.What happens to consumer and producer surplus when the sale of a good is taxed? How does the change in consumer and producer surplus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because people will continue demanding/buying the product. No matter how expensive bread may become, people will still rely on it as a necessary staple of survival. On the other side of the coin, when demand is more elastic, the deadweight loss will be greater since the demand curve is flatter. The less people rely on a service/product the more likely they will be to forfeit its usage. 4.What does the domestic price that prevails without international trade tell us about a nation s comparative advantage? The effects of free trade can be determined by comparing the domestic price without trade to the world price. A low domestic price indicates that the country has a comparative advantage in producing that good and that the country will become an exporter. A high domestic price indicates that the world has a comparative advantage and that the country will become an importer. When a country becomes an exporter, producers are better off than consumers. When a country becomes an importer, consumers are stronger than producers. In both situations, the gains from the trade exceed the losses. 5.What is the difference between the unilateral and multilateral approaches to achieving free trade? Give an example of each. • 11. Mr Bull Observation A few weeks after my catch at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, I decided that I wanted a Charolais. I shared this with my Ag teacher Mr. Hill and my donor Mr. Ligon. Most of the month of April was spent waiting for Mr. Hill to find a steer in my price range. During the waiting period I spent a lot of time educating myself on steer selection, feeding, halter breaking and grooming. Since I have never been around steer before, I left the selection up to Mr. Hill. Mr. Hill is an expert in determining the structural correctness, definition, balance, set of hock, and frame size. The first order of business was setting up the pin by disinfecting the floor, laying cedar bedding, purchasing feed and water buckets, and hanging a hay stack. With all this done, the pin was ready for my new project. On Monday April 24th, Mr. Hill asked me to meet him at the barn to look at three steer he purchased and decide which one I wanted. As soon as I walked into the barn I knew which one I desired, it was the one and only Charolais in the group! Mr. Hill warned me that the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 12. Concrete Pillars Of Concrete Granite Concrete slab is above Earth foundation type with a single layer of concrete with thickness of typically about 4 inches to 6 inches and sometimes reinforce with steel rods. Steel rods or rebar have a function to make the slab extremely strong and capable of bearing the load. The edges of the foundation are usually thicker as to allow for more strength around the load in this case, the live load and static load of rainwater tank. This type of foundation also may be used with the base soil of low bearing capacity or weak subsoils that might be presents on site. In fact, sandy soil which known with its low bearing capacity cover a large proportion of the landscape of Cambodia is appropriate for reinforced concreteslab to be used as the base for the rainwater tank. In term of amount of material, more material will be used as the area covered must be larger than the rainwater tank with minimum of 100mm from the edge of rainwater tank compared to concrete ring wall foundation. However, the concrete slab foundation can be considered cheap and economically viable for small tanks in which less than 6 m due to its ease construction processes. The processes have several steps including pouring the slab into the formwork and spreading with a shovel so all spaces of the formwork are completely filled. Next, the slab surface is flatten and curing before formwork can be carefully removed after 24 hours (CementAustralia, 2014). One of the advantages of concrete slab foundation is time ... A primary objective of this team is to facilitate information sharing between the two firms and address logistics, supply, management information systems, accounting, finance, and other issues (Handfield and Nichols, 1999). Under this arrangement, Wal Mart shares point of sale information from retail outlets directly with P G, giving the latter easy access to information on consumer transactions and buying patterns. P G s dedicated Wal Mart account team effectively takes responsibility for the marketing and sales of P G products within Wal Mart stores. Similar VMI partnerships with other giant retailers have been established by P G. These partnerships have dramatically improved P G s on time deliveries to Wal Mart and the other retailers while increasing inventory turnovers (Simchi Levi, et al, 2000; Handfield and Nichols, 1999). At the same time, they save the retailer a significant amount of managerial and other resources, and demonstrate how information sharing leads to mutual advantage for both ... • 14. Reaction Rate Of Lipase Enzymes are substances made of protein that help stimulate chemical reactions. One of the enzymes crucial to human health is lipase. Lipase is one of the vital digestive enzymes released mainly by the pancreas into the small intestine, to help the body process and absorb fats. Lipase is a digestive enzymethat breaks down triglycerides into fatty acids and glycerol. Phenolphthalein is an indicator that is pink in alkaline solutions around pH10. When the pH drops below pH 8.3 phenolphthalein goes colorless. Here, an alkaline solution of milk, lipase and phenolphthalein will change from pink to colorless as the fat in milk is broken down to form fatty acids (and glycerol) thus reducing the pH to below 8.3. The time taken for this reaction to occur is affected by temperature. Temperate affects the reaction rate as when temperature rises, molecules have greater kinetic energy resulting in the molecules having greater energy than the activation energy, leading to greater enzyme activity. However when the temperatures become too high the enzymes start to denature leading to slower enzyme activity. Most enzymes have an optimum temperature of 37 degrees. Aim To investigate the effect that temperature has on the reaction rate of the lipase with fats in full cream milk. Hypothesis The higher the temperature the faster the lipase will react with the fats in full cream milk. Variables Independent: The temperate of the water bath Dependent: Rate of reaction between the lipase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of Genesis is to display God s creation of the world and his desire to have people set apart to worship him. Genesis sets the stage for the entire bible. Genesis has six key themes of focus. First, is the beginning where Genesis explains the beginning of the world, human history, family, civilization and salvation. Disobedience being the second theme and Genesis teaches why men are evil. Disobedience occurs when people chose not to follow Gods plan of living. Story Of An Hour s Story Of An Hour The theme of Story Of An Hour I believe the book suggests that marriage, regardless of the good intentions of the people it joins, necessarily results in repression and a loss of freedom. The story plays with both irony and tragedy as the shock that her friends fear will kill Louise restores her freedom, and the joy they anticipate for her is the heartbreak that kills her. The story focuses on the evils inherent in marriageas an institution, not Louise Mallard s specific relationship, about which we are told very little. My proof for my theme her husband s return shatters her hopes. She is again a mere wife, subservient. This sudden reversal, the destruction of her dreams, kills her. Meaning an economy can affect a country and its people in a short amount of time and can plumet a country s wealth, progress, and economy from one wrong decision or move. Westward expansion was a factor in something that impacted our country. Switching from an agricultural economy to an industrial also had an impact on our economy and ways of living. Immigration too had an impact on Americans and American life. Immigrants came to America to be free and even for a better life. Sometimes this could have meant taking hundreds of American jobs. The Progressive era is also an affect on our country and economy. The Progressive Era was the era when Teddy Roosevelt was president and had his goal to progress America and its economy and country together. Westward expansion was a new thing and time in our country and had many impacts on the American people and ways of life. The government made it available to buy a lot more of land in the West. Our government gave opportunities for people to move west for a better life or more land in the west. The government gave opportunities like the homestead act where the government would give families 160 acres of land if they moved west at the time this deal was going on. This act was signed into law by President Lincoln in 1862. People moved west for any opportunity they could. People moved for a new life, more land, and more opportunities in ... • 18. History of Thorium History of thorium Thorium is naturally a radioactive chemical element, which was discovered in 1828 from the Norwegian mineralogist Morten Thrane Esmark, and named Thor from Jons Jakob Bezelius, which means the Norse God of Thunder. Thorium is the most abundant metal found in earth crust and had been scattered million years ago in the galaxy, with the explosion of meteors known as supernova. Thorium generates radioactive gas products, as radon 20 decay. Other decay by products of thorium are radium and actinium. But, thorium is found in nature as thorium 232, which has a half life and endures under alpha decay. Thorium decay produces a significant amount of internal heat energy. Some of the disadvantages of using thorium fuel is the production of 233Pa, an halfway product which produces 233U. 233 Pa relatively has a half life of 27 days and produces a great amount of 233U. And a second disadvantage of using thorium fuel is the contamination of 232U, due to the high energy of gamma radiation that is emitted from one of its decay products. Uranium 235 reactors are known as nuclear reactors, which are capable to produce a significant amount of nuclear weapons. With the uranium 235 reactors people were able to make nuclear weapons, presenting a non safety and non stability environment. Also the production of uranium 235 presents the wastage of its radioactive byproducts in the environment, which requires a hundred years to decay. What is the status of constructing a thorium reactor to produce power? Thorium reactors based on their safety, cleanness and the ability to produce a large amount of energy has triggered the idea of constructing thorium reactor as an easy way to produce any source of power. There are several thorium reactors that are used to produce power : Heavy Water Reactor( PHWRs) this is a reactor based on thorium fuel due to the combination of neutrons that can be absorbed to produce 233U, an average of neutron energy produced and flexible in recycling fuel ability. • 19. Descriptive Essay On The Sea World A few years ago on a hot summer day, a short Asian boy stared at the sky at disbelief. A roller coaster loomed over him, and the shadow of it cast over his face. In a few hours later, he found himself strapped into a seat on the ride, terrified to death. And that short Asian boy turned out to be me. Mom, my sister, Julianne, and I were at Sea World in San Antonio. Although we ve already been there multiple times, she insists on going there. It probably has to do with us having a membership and her being a cheap Asian mom. She wouldn t let us buy any food or drinks, or any souvenirs. Except that dumb stuffed penguin that she bought Julianne that she managed to rip in my room and make a huge mess that I had to clean up. Anyways, the shows at Sea World are always the same, so we are left with a few choices, to rewatch the shows, go to new animal exhibits, or go on some rides. We quickly went through the new exhibits, and between all these exhibits were the two largest rides in the park. One of them was what I call the traditional roller coaster, where it goes up slowly so you can enjoy the beautiful view of the park, then plunge down suddenly, your heart filled with fear and your ears filled with screams. The other was even worse. It twisted around and went upside down and then went to the moon. Suddenly, Mom asked Would you like to ride any those rides? You seem really bored riding these kid rides with Julianne? Two things popped up in my mind. The wimpy side of me was saying: No, there is no way you are going on those roller coasters. The other side of me said: Sure, I don t want the only teenager to be riding Big Bird s Ferris Wheel any more. It came out like this: Yeahno, sure, that sounds great, no, shut up, me. It did not sound great. And yes, I did talk to myself. Then, she bribed me with Hot Cheetos. I love Hot Cheetos more than anything. Sadly, finding any snack food at my house is like finding an oasis in a desert, once I get closer, I realize there are no Hot Cheetos. Once in a blue moon, Mom would buy a large bag of Hot Cheetos, and the day after the blue moon, the bag will mysteriously disappear. And so I had to say yes. On the plus side, RFID can improve user self check in and check out because it s much faster than bar code readers and can scan a lot of items simultaneously (Smart 2004, p. SS4). It s also proven to be extremely helpful in finding lost books: California State University in Long Beach found 500 lost volumes that would have cost $40,000 to replace (Smart 2004, p. SS4). The downside here is that patrons have found ways to remove the tags, books are disappearing (Smart 2004, p. SS4). This rural urban divide can be traced back to before the first economic reform. Beginning in the 1950s, China separated urban and rural residents through a strictly enforced household registration system (hukou) and focused mainly on the development of urban cities. Hukou refers to permanent residency status and can be extremely hard to get in major cities since it is tie to benefit levels, which differ across provinces and between urban residents and rural residents. An urban hukou provides a relatively comprehensive system of health care and retirement pensions in that particular city, while a rural hukou a much lower standard of welfares. Individuals human capital was largely determined by the place (rural versus urban) where they were born and received their education, which highlights the role of China s rural urban divide in shaping people s labor market return. This is why Milgram received such shocking results in his obedience experiment and why only a few reacted in Darley and Latane s studies. Although cruelty is within from birth, the test subjects in Milgram s, Darley and Latane s experiment had no intentions of being cruel because they believed they were simply following orders and still fighting a personal conflict which is to respond or not to a situation, while still conforming to the norms of social etiquette. Cruelty is something that is innate. It is not something we learn but rather something that is nurtured into existence. Individually, cruelty levels differ from one to another as each being may have experienced different situations causing them to react differently. In the experiment conducted by Stanley Milgram, a psychologist who wanted to test the level of cruelty a normal citizen would go to when instructed by a person of authority. He brought in many different people as the test subjects and as we see from the results how each persons obedience to inflict pain on someone else differed amongst the subjects, we understand this is the results of their cruelty that is within. Important questions about the definition of a language arise when temporal shifts come into play. Where is the line between a new language, and simply a dialect? Were Shakespeare and Chaucer writing in different languages? Does Barack Obama use a different dialect than George Washington did? The deciding factor of whether a languagehas evolved past the point of dialectical variation is mutual intelligibility, which can apply to linguistic changes based on geography, ethnicity, and, although it is less concrete, time. If two dialects of a language change enough because of the combination of geographic distance and time so that the dialect from one region is not understandable by the people using the other dialect, then the two are no longer dialects of one language. Instead, they have become two entirely different languages. Although it is, for the most part, impossible to isolate geography from time, it is possible to isolate time from geography. The rule of mutual intelligibility still applies: when a language changes to the point where its modern users cannot understand its traditional texts, then the traditional language and the modern one can be considered two separate languages. Mutual unintelligibility is not the case with the English used today as compared to the English used in the late 1770s. For example, Barack Obama and George Washington, although there may have been small discrepancies, undoubtedly would have been able to understand each other s writing and speech. We, as students at the University of Chicago, frequently read texts written in the 1770s and before, and are able to comprehend them even if they are unabridged. English has not changed enough in the last two hundred years to constitute two separate languages. Mitch Glaser presents his own testimony of how Isaiah 53 was useful in his own growth and testimony. He overviews some of the differing methods in which Isaiah 53 has been and is used in evangelism to Jewish people. Then he analyzes the polemical use from contemporary objections and responses to those objections to Isaiah 53. Whenever someone talks about Harry Potter around me, I will definitely talk with them about it, and having read the books a ton of times, I know a large amount of stuff from Harry Potter. People sometimes try to make me feel ashamed for liking it, but I find them ridiculous, because I absolutely love the series, and I find it a little bit hard to hate it. It s a wonderfully written series, one that has shaped the lives of me and many other people besides me. It has shaped my creative streak, and it was especially hearing the author of Harry Potter J.K. Rowling s story about how she tried to get Harry Potter first published that really touched me as a writer and really inspired me to achieve any goals I wanted to get, because apparently she was rejected by many, many different companies before actually getting her book published. That just makes me want to do just the same thing she did, when I write a book, I am going to keep trying to get it published no matter what it takes, because I know that there will be a publisher that will accept my book. J.K. Rowling, just as much as Harry Potter was, is a role model to me, and I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. Buddhist Ethnography Essay The Buddhist Experience Buddhism is a religion that focuses more on the individual and the actions of that individual, which was prevalent to me when I made my way into Portland and set foot in a Buddhist temple. The man I met within the walls of this temple was far from my stereotypical thoughts of Buddhist monks. The man I met looked like your plain old, average Joe, American man. Before I delve into the depths of my visit to this inspiring place, I need to sum up the Buddhist religion and why I chose to study this particular group of people. First, Buddhism. Buddhism is a religion based off of the idea that there is a path that one can take to achieve enlightenment, instead of believing in a god or multiple gods. Buddhism began with... The Eight folds are: Right understanding, Right thought, Right speech, Right action, Right livelihood, Right effort, Right mindfulness, and Right concentration. This is the way that everyone should live if they want to achieve enlightenment along the Buddhist path. This is not the only thing that Siddhartha taught though. Like every single religion since the beginning of time, there is a list of rules. Christianity has the 10 Commandments, Islam has the Five Pillars of Islam, and Buddhism has the Religious Reformations of Buddha. Unlike most religions, Buddhism strays from the focus on an all mighty deity or deities. Buddhism preaches five different logics that deviate from the norm when it comes to religious ideals: first, Strive after enlightenment with due diligence. This means you must put a lot of effort into the job of enlightenment if you wish to achieve it. Second, there will be no metaphysical theorizing. This is the one that seems to throw a wrench into the ideals of every religion before it, there is no God and if you even think that there is a God, you are disgracing the Buddhist way of life. Buddhism is a way of life, it is not a religion with a holy God. Third, there is no tradition, no ritual. The teachings themselves are supposed to lead you, but if you do not know yourself, there is no way that you can know Buddhism and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Mrs. Mallard Deceiving The first few lines of Kate Chopin s, The Story of An Hour are deceiving because of the natural assumptions the reader makes based on societal ideals. As the story goes on, it becomes more apparent that Mrs. Mallard is not so heart broken about the death of her husband. Why would a woman in 1894 be happy about news of her husbandpassing away? He was her source of income and the community would pity her for losing her husband. However, Mrs. Mallard saw her husband s deathas a away out from a marriageshe didn t really like, so she took the opportunity. Mrs. Mallard tried to act normal when she first heard the news of her husbands death. She eventually went into her room alone where she realized that she was free of the burden she felt... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mallard says how seeing her husbands dead body will be upsetting, but describes him as the face that had never looked save with love upon her (429). Her saying this depicts how she truly feels about her marriage and thinks that her husband didn t really love her. She begins to realize the freedom she will be able to experience now that he is gone. Mrs. Mallard says But she saw beyond that bitter moment a long procession of years to come that would belong to her absolutely. (429). She is dreaming of the independence she can now experience and does not want to look back. This challenges society because most women would feel threatened, alone, and vulnerable at the thought of having no income or man, but she views it as the beginning of her life. She would live for herself. (Chopin 429). This goes against everything her society believes. Mrs. Mallard craves the independence she has never been able to experience because of society s limited scope on life and marriage. Mrs. Mallard is ahead of her time which is what has made her life so hard up until this point where she finally feels relief. She keeps saying Free! Body and soul free! (429) which makes her seem almost delusional as if she had been dreaming of this for some time. She dreams of Spring days, and summer days, and all sorts of days that would be her own. ...
