3. Comparison Of Alexander Nevsky And Birth Of A Nation
The films Alexander Nevsky and Birth of a Nation maintain a theme of national myth
and effectively inspire the audience towards nationalism. Each director comes to the
theme from different perspectives; perspectives influenced by their fathers and their
political environments.
Sergei Eisenstein s father, Mikhail was an architect, tyrant, and civil engineer in
Russia who expected his son to follow his beliefs and designated career steps. It
was never to be Sergei s choice to decide his own path. Conflict with his father s
attitude and point of view colored Eisenstein s assessment of the leadership
philosophy he could support. Ronald Bergan quotes Eisenstein in his biography, The

Little...
A flash of red and yellow made the bright day somber as chunks of smoky brick and
ripped bibles were thrown in every direction. Killing four little girls the bombing of
16th street Baptist Church in 1963 was a horrible tragedy that was a sign of
Americas horrible racism. Many different books and movies address the bombing
within their stories, two of which are the book The Watsons Go to Birmingham 1963
and the movie Four Little Girls. These two acts of storytelling both use the bombing
to make sure we are aware of that day, and though it may be through different means,
they get us to hear what the people in these stories are saying. With these narratives
we learn through two different ways what exactly happened on that September...

In both stories people describe falling ceilings and smoke filling up the inside of
the church. In the book it says, I looked into the church and saw smoke and dust
flying around like a tornado was in there. One light from the ceiling was still
hanging down by a wire, flickering and swinging back and forth, and every once in
a while I could see stuff inside. When hearing this description and the similar one
stated in the movie we can get a good idea of the visuals of that day. One last thing
the two have in common is how we see people coping with the trauma immediately
after the bombing. In the movie it is described to us that many people were outside
on the grass. They were holding onto one another in attempt to comfort each other,
and screamed and cried together for the tragedy. The book also mentions this
saying, I walked past people laying in tiny balls on the grass crying and twitching, I
walked past people squeezing each other and shaking, I walked past people hugging
trees and telephone poles. Though that sentence was already mentioned in a previous
point it does well to show the description and sticks out as an explicit similarity
between the book and
5. The For An Anonymous Donor Program
Additionally, while there are solutions to the organ shortage problem, there are also
alternative solutions. The first alternative solution is to establish an anonymous
donor program, where organs are donated and received from complete strangers. An
advantage to an anonymous donor program would be that, it would eliminate the
social bias and the medical bias. On the other hand, a disadvantage would be that, the
recipient of the organ would know nothing about the donor. That could present issues
for someone that uses their religion to guide their decision when choosing an organ
donor.
The second alternative solution is a reward system of organ donation. People that
donate organs could receive money in return for their donation. That money could
either come from the recipient of the organ, or an established organization. A
disadvantage to a reward system of organ donation is that, people would be
donating organs for the extrinsic value of the act, instead of doing it to help the
greater good of someone else. Another problem that could arise is that, people
would begin to feel entitled to receiving an organ if they are wealthy or come from a
high level of society. On the other hand, an advantage could be that, more people
would begin to donate organs if they knew that they would be receiving something in
return.
So while there are many solutions and alternative solutions to the organ shortage
problem, the ultimate solution is stem cell research. A stem cell can
6. Taking a Look at Southwest Airlines
Introduction
Every entrepreneur would have once in for a while had tumbled upon the success
story of The Southwest Airlines . The founder, Herb Kelleher in one of his interviews
to CNBC mentions that there were key moments in the history of the airline where
things could have gone horribly wrong, but he came up with out of the box solutions
that not only saved his business, but made it thrive.
When Southwest started in 1971 they were just a small regional carrier flying from
Houston to Dallas. But to make themselves unique, they selected beautiful flight
attendants with unique personalities and then put them in hot pants and go go boots.
They made some exceptional non traditional choices while operating in a very
traditional industry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it s fitting that we began service to San Antonio and Houston from Love
Field in Dallas on June 18, 1971. As our Company and Customers grew, our LUV
grew too! With the prettiest Flight Attendants serving Love Bites on our planes, and
determined Employees issuing tickets from our Love Machines, we changed the face
of the airline industry throughout the 1970s. Then in 1977, our stock was listed on
the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol LUV. Over the ensuing
years, our LUV has spread from coast to coast and border to border thanks to our
hardworking Employees and their LUV for Customer Service.

STRENGTHS
Southwest has traditionally been a low cost carrier, which is how they were able to
establish a foothold in the market. They tend to operate point to point routes, rather
than the traditional hub and spoke strategy of the legacy airlines, which allows more
flexibility in selecting profitable routes. Furthermore, they tend to rely on secondary
airports in larger cities, such as Midway (rather than O Hare in Chicago) and
LaGuardia (rather than JFK in New York) to improve on time reliability, an important
aspect of customer relations.
Southwest has always aimed for 20 minute turnarounds at the gate another perennial

the families of the students who went there. Two different religious families filed a
lawsuit against the Santa Fe Independent school district because religious prayers
were being said over the public address system by the student council chaplain. The
Santa Fe s Independent School District violated the Lemon test law by allowing
student led prayers to be recited on the public address system, which was not

which is a distinct part of the Lemon Test rule, and they violated the rule against

I spoke with my Branch Manager, Leighton. He has been a financial advisor for
about 25 years and told me about some of his experiences with cold calling as a
rookie broker. After graduating BYU he got a job as a financial advisor; he needed
to build his business and started cold calling. He started by making between 60
and 80 dials a day and had some success. One day he decided he would watch the
most successful guy in the office who was the first person in in the morning, the
last to leave in the evening and who rarely went out for lunch. After that Leighton
started making up to 300 dials a day. He came into the office, sat down and started
dialing before anything distracted him. He had a list of prospects so that he could
go from call to call without losing momentum. He devised a pitch and made sure he
smiled when he spoke to prospects. He rewarded himself when he was successful
and had the record for account opening amongst the new hires. He also prepared a

9. Isis As The Mother Goddess
The push for equality between genders has been a highly disputed topic since the
blossoming of the feminist movement. For years women have felt undervalued and
oppressed because of the standards of success put in place by the patriarchal society.
However, early evidence suggests that females were once renowned through the
archetype of the great goddessbecause of a female s ability to create life through
giving birth, justifying that the mother goddesswould be the most powerful of the
gods (82). The beginning of the rise of the patriarch can be traced back thousands of
years to the myths and legends of the ancient Egyptians and Mespotamians, where the
once revered great goddesses were replaced with male counterparts, often involving
humiliation for the goddess involved.
In Egyptian mythology, Isis is known as the mother goddess and creator of all living
things; the ancient Egyptians would pray to her for bountiful crops because they
relied on her nurturing care for survival (14). Isis is portrayed as a loyal and caring
goddess in her journey to revive her murdered husband throughout the story of
Osiris, Isis, and Horus; she sail[s] up and down the Nile in a papyrus boat, and
wander[s] through the country in order to find her husband s scattered remains,
proving her devotion to him (19). While she has assistance on her journey from
other gods and goddesses, she is the leader in finding Osiris no one else seems to take
interest in reviving the god of Upper and Lower

And since a large amount of people in Maxentius original army were killed by the
time he faced Constantine at Milvian Bridge, Constantine has a higher chance of
winning the battle of Milvian Bridge since there s an implication that Constantine
has a noticeable numeric advantage over Maxentius in terms of army size. Another
circumstance that resulted into Constantine s victory in Milvian Bridge is the
morale of Constantine s army in comparison to the morale of Maxentius army.
While Constantine seemed to be ...riding a wave of success... from his military
victories in the Po valley, with the cross symbol on the shields of Constantine s
soldiers being ...a device to raise the morale of the men [Constantine s soldiers]

men probably knew they were probably overmatched (Potter, 143).2 Since the
morale of Maxentius army was very low to due to a large portion of people in
Maxentius army being killed, the surviving soldiers in Maxentius army were
probably unwilling to fight Constantine s army to the death since they knew that they
would probably lose the battle at Milvian Bridge due to the numeric advantage
Constantine s army have over Maxentius army. In contrast, the morale of

fascinated about the amount of symbols in the world that people see as just
something in their daily life. He always loves to learn more about science, religion,
symbols, or anything that interests him. In the story, his strengths are that he is a
symbology teacher and that he has the intelligent mind to find certain symbols
rapidly to move further and further in the Path of Illumination. Another one of his
strengths is that he thinks quickly in situations where the necessity to act fast is
needed. Like any other story or novel, the intelligent person is always considered
weak, scrawny and lacks the ability to fight well or use weapon effectively. Robert
is similar to that stereotype except for the fact that he is well built from swimming

Some prefer hard, tasteless chocolate chip cookies while others suggest chewy,

steps that must be followed. Things like preheating the oven to 350, choosing the
cookie dough is effortless, just choose the one that tastes the best, next put the cookie
dough on an 18.5in x 15in bakingpan and let the cookies cook for 15 20 minutes.
However, there are two crucial steps that must be followed for the cookies to be
perfect, the cookie dough must be in the right shape plus at the end it s a must to
add those additional delicious chocolate chips. The pre packaged cookies are
square shaped which does not make for the best cookies. Unfortunately, they tend

After the cookies are finished baking, take them out and immediately after placing

after the cookies come out of the oven is so they can melt on top of the cookies
while they re still hot. Let the cookies sit for a couple of minutes to make sure the
chocolate chips melt; if they do not melt after a few minutes just simply put the

was surrounded by mountains on all sides, the subcontinent was very prone to

It is also believed they participated in the maritime trade network. The ancient
civilization would trade many different types of things, for example they traded
silver, gold, seashells, flint, and gemstones. Cotton was one of the most important
items the ancient civilization traded. The Indus River Valley civilization had one of
the largest trade routes of their time, which expanded from Mesopotamia to China.
The Indus River Valley civilization society was based around a social hierarchy,
which was divided into groups based upon occupations. The highest group of the
social hierarchy was the Brahmins, or also known as priests. The second highest
group of the hierarchy was the Kshatriyas, or warriors. The third group were called
the Vaisyas, which consisted of the herders, farmers, artisans, and merchants. The
fourth group consisted of people who had little or no Aryan heritage called the
Sudras, they consisted of farm workers, servants, and other laborers. The lowest
group of the social hierarchy was the dalits, they did work no one else wanted to do.
Their social class determined who they could marry, what kind of education they
could get, where they could live, and what jobs they could get.

student shows that she can perform well on a retention test. However, when this

In contrast, backward reaching transfer occurs when one is faced with a problem and
looks back on what he or she has learned in other situations to help in this new
situation.
Factors that contribute to transfer of learning
Initial Learning
Without an adequate level of initial learning, transfer cannot be expected (Mestre,
2002). The importance of initial learning was illustrated by a series of studies
designed to access the effects of learning to program in the computer language
LOGO. When initial learning was accessed, it was found that students often had not
learned enough about LOGO to provide a basis for transfer (Bransford, Brown, and
Cocking, 1999). Many studies that have failed to produce transfer have resulted from
insufficient opportunities for students to learn efficiently in the first place (Mestre,
2002). Understanding
Transfer is also affected by the degree to which people learn with understanding
rather than merely memorizing. Judd s classic studies of learning to throw darts at
underwater targets would be a perfect exampled of how understanding is positively
correlated with transfer. In sum, Judd s studies demonstrated the value of learning
with understanding rather than simply mimicking a set of fixed procedures (Bransford

different communities and disadvantaged students? When the No Child Left Behind

order for our children to become the next leaders of America our educational system

Colonists from France came to Canada and settled in Acadia also known as present

colonists from the time of arrival to Canada was the Acadians . The Acadians from
France continued their formal lifestyle by farming, fishing and maintaining a close
family oriented culture in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Islandand New
Brunswick. The Acadians had created a prosperous agriculture economy up until the
late eighteenth century, when there was a colonial struggle in power between the

Activities such as fishing, mining, and agriculture were ways in which the east
coast had an abundant of resources. Fish, salt and livestock were the food the
Acadian s relied on for survival, so it was important that enough resources were
available in the East coast. There was a direct route for due to the geographic
location of their settlement being right on the coast line. They resided close to the
Bay of Fundy making it easier for them to trade with others coming into the colony.
By living close to waterways the Acadians were able to make a living by trading
with other colonies and continue providing their families with food and resources
for a formal lifestyle. Geographically, Nova Scotia was a great place for their
agriculture and in which it boosted their economy. Therefore Nova Scotia,
Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick were lands where the
Acadians could continue the lifestyles and continue to provide for their families due
to the fertile soils making agriculture and livestock an easy transition from former
life. The economies were able to increase with resources being so profitable and
promising. The British and French colonies were struggling with colonial powers but
the British conquered and rising tensions begun. The British colonies thought the
land the Acadians inhabited important land to Great Britain s colonial advancement.
Therefore British needed to exile them as far away as possible. The deportation was

The extent of the GST T1 1 expressions differ from person to person. Hardly any
normal human samples had the expression for CYP2E1. Comparing the diseased
human livers to those of the control group, the test group had similar expressions of
GST T1 1. None of the test group samples showed an expression for the gene
CYP2E1. For the test group, there was the dominant presence of a marker of DNA
double strand break, Оі H2AX. For the control group, less than half of the liver
samples displayed this marker. It was clear that those who were exposed to 1,2 DCP
had more of an expression of this DNA marker in their non neoplastic biliary
epithelial cells of the large bile duct than those in the control group with no
exposure to 1,2 DCP. Those livers which had been exposed to 1,2 DCP had signs
of a tumor protein in their cells and bile ducts called p53. This study is extremely
difficult to read if it is something you are not used to. The researchers are assuming
that you know all of the concepts which made this especially difficult to comprehend.
Also, there may not have been enough liver and bile duct samples to make a
definitive claim of the relationship between 1,2 DCP and cholangiocarcinoma. The
researchers were extremely thorough and did not have to spend too much time
searching for the affected men or the healthy livers which saved time and money for

18. Difference Between Hunting And Fishing
Why Hunting is the Greatest Outdoor Pastime
Hunting and fishing have been around since there were people. Before people could
go to the store and buy goods, they had to use what nature had given them in order to
survive. Today, hunting and fishing is not necessary for survival, but is rather
enjoyable and a great excuse to get out and enjoy God s beautiful country. Fishing is a
great pass time; however, hunting is more worthwhile because of the wide variety of
game, the endless options of gear and equipment, the breathtaking locations, and the
ability to target specific animals.
One of the main differences between hunting and fishing is the targeted game.
Fishing refers to catching or trying to catch fish in the water for meat or for sport,
whereas hunting refers to killing or trying to kill animals for meat or sport.
Although there are endless species of fish to be caught, they all look about the
same. They are shaped like an oval, with a mouth on one end and a tail on the
other. Hunting, on the other hand, has fewer species to be hunted, but there is
many different sizes and shapes. There are small, grey, bushy tailed squirrels who
feed on acorns in the trees, then there are the 800lb bull elks whose antlers stretch
as far back as their hind legs. There are many different kinds of fish to catch, but
hunting offers a wider variety of size and shape to be experienced.
Whether it is hunting or fishing, there is a lot of equipment that is needed. For
fishing, a rod and reel,
19. Benefits Of Extracurricular Activities
In high school there are extracurricular activities and clubs that educators and parents
feel offer many benefits to students. In contrary to this I do not believe that the school
should make students participate in afterschool activities against their will.
Reasonings for this are: Many students have work outside of school and have no
time, Many students play sports which is already considered an extracurricular
activity, some students will resent extracurricular if they are forced to participate in
them. On the other hand, colleges require a well rounded student who has taken
extracurriculars.
One reason that supports my claim is the fact that many high school students already
work and they don t have the time for extracurriculars. According to an article by
NewsOK, it states, The U.S. Census shows that more than 1 in 4 high school
students age 16 and older work. This shows us that a good amount of students are
already occupied outside of school by work alone. Meaning that students who
work would not have the time to join extracurriculars and it would be unjust to
force a student to join one. A student who works and has school is already learning
very valuable lessons and ideas about the real world and what it takes to keep and
maintain a job and they pick up many skills by doing this. To force them into
extracurriculars to learn lessons and values wouldn t make sense because they are
already learning everything they need to know to keep and maintain a job in the real

Kellie Elmore once said, Sometimes, the only way to ever find yourself is to get

these experiences don t end up the way we want them to be because of the life s

we tend to learn about our true self that we as humans didn t know of because we

22. The History Boys And Educating Rita
The History Boys and Educating Rita have common themes running through the
spine of each text, regarding formal education and learning for self satisfaction.
The History boys tells the story of 8 academic working and middle class boys from
a grammar school in Sheffield whom are applying for Oxford and Cambridge
university in the 1980 s and are studying intensely to succeed. Their teachers, Hector
and Irwin have a conflicting approach to education. Irwin teaches the boys
specifically how to pass their exams but contrarily Hector teaching style encourages
learning for the purpose of obtaining knowledge. Bennett comments on these
differing types of education via the characters of Hector and Irwin. Educating Rita,
set also in the 1980 s and located in Northern England is about a woman who enters
the world of formal university education as a mature student on an Open University
course. She has never had a strict and authentic education as she comes from a
working class background, so she wants to prove to herself that she can triumph and
live a better life. Both scripts imply that formal education can be obtained, however
at the compromise of individual intellectual flare and distinctiveness. Initially in the
text, Rita and the group of boys both are unrefined, raw and sincere with their way of
viewing and analysing scholarly stimulus. However they both lose this quality as the
plays progress due to the education system moulding them to pass exams and not to
obtain wisdom.
23. Socrates As A Martyr And Socrates
In philosophy class this semester we spoke a lot about Socrates and his trial. We
were required to read the dialogue Apology by Plato. The Apology Dialogue is
what Plato recorded during the speech Socrates gave to the court defending himself
against the charges of corrupting the young, and by not believing in the gods in
whom the city believes these two were the main charges, but underneath that there
were also other significant charges such as being considered an antidemocratic or
pro Spartan, sophistry, and being lampooned by Aristophanes in the comedy clouds .
Apology in this sense has the meaning of speaking in defense of ones beliefs or
actions. The trial is usually categorized into two interpretations which are: Socratesas
a Martyr and Socrates as an Antidemocratic. The first interpretation which says
Socrates trial and death was Socrates acting as a martyr; that interpretation is
considered more traditional and standard compared to the radical interpretation that
stated that Socrates was Antidemocratic. A martyr has different meanings, a few
definitions include: A person who is killed because of their religious or other
beliefs, a person who exaggerates their distress in order to obtain sympathy, or a
constant sufferer of something. The definition of a martyr which fit Socrates the
most is A person who is killed because of their religion or other beliefs because he
decided to die with his beliefs rather than change his beliefs and live which is a
24. To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell Essay
To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell It is a metaphysical poem, which means
its lyric contains many striking images, is very intense and uses strong metaphors.
It is concerned with a young man who is trying to persuade a young woman to
have sex with him by charming and rushing her into it because he only has one
thing on his mind. In the poem he uses three different arguments, flattery, fear and
passion to persuade her to his point of view. In the first section Andrew Marvell
uses flattery, he does this by telling her that if he had all the time in the world he
would use it by telling her how beautiful she is and stare into her eyes but he doesn t
have this time and he knows this so he s using his charm and... Show more content on

My vegetable love should grow Vaster than empires, and more slow; The language
in the first stanza uses assonance such as And the last age should show your heart
He also uses alliteration such as: We would sit down and think which way and An
age at least to every part He uses this in the poem to give it rhythm to engage the
reader and make it easier for the reader to get a flow to the lyrical rhythm of the
poem. At the very beginning of the poem he uses the word crime straight the way
to make her feel guilty and also that she kind of owes him something, Had we but
world enough, and time This coy Lady, were no crime He uses a lot of
exaggeration to project how much he really wants her, to make her feel flattered,
by telling her all the time he would spend on her and all the love he would give her
and then telling her all of what s he s told her is the least he would do, Nor would I

what he wants. The second stanza based on fear and persuading her by using strong
and powerful images almost scares her into having sex with him. He uses the most
powerful imagery of destruction, war, Time s winged chariot

The busts of hundreds of players, managers, coaches, umpires, and baseball
pioneers occupy the hallowed halls of a quiet building located in Cooperstown,
New York. Thousands of fans travel to this building, otherwise noted as the
National Baseball Hall of Fame, each year to get a glimpse of baseball s

Steroids are Available Cal Ripken, Jr. and Tony Gwynn are two of the newest
additions to Cooperstown. Both men posted impressive, record holding careers;
however, they were not unanimously voted into the hall of fame because they
played in an era where steroids were supposedly present in locker rooms across Major
League Baseball. Not once was either player penalized for or even accused of using
steroids. But they are guilty by association and were slapped with the steroid label.
Barry Bonds clearly used steroids prior to or during his remarkable 73 homerun

28. The Process Of International Relations
I. Introduction
Many important decisions rest in the hands of the leaders of the countries of the
world. These decisions determine peace and war, trade agreements, and other highly
important choices. So, it is very important that those whom are elected into office will
do what is best for their country. To understand the process of international relations,
we must first understand how these leaders are elected in the first place. Much of this
comes down to mathematical processes, and without these, voting processes would
most likely be very corrupt.
Each country elects its leaders differently, but many run on the same principles. Many
countries run democratically, and rely on the plurality voting system, a method where
the candidate that is ranked first is elected. This method is very popular because it
involves a good balance of the people and their votes and those of an elected group
making decisions. One of the countries with the longest running democracies is the
United States. A country that is simultaneously heralded and criticized for its system
of governing, the United States is a prime example of the plurality voting system in
action.
I decided on this topic because of how interested and invested I am in systems of
governing and politics around the world. My personal belief is that if you are not
aware of what is happening in the world around you, then you are at a grand
disadvantage when taking part in your country s political affairs. I have lived in the

In 1936, England s King George V died, leaving his eldest son, the Prince of Wales,
to succeed him as Edward VIII. The forty one year old new King had been known
as an especially womanizing prince and he was still unmarried when he assumed
the throne on January 20, 1936. His reign lasted a mere 325 days, ending in
December the same year when he abdicated. He was succeeded by his brother, who
became George VI, father of the current reigning monarch, Elizabeth II. Edward is
perhaps best known for abdicating the throne in order to marry the woman he loved,
the American Wallis Warfield Simpson from Baltimore, Maryland. Wallis had been
divorced from her first husband in 1927 and she was married to her second husband,
Ernest Simpson, when she and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Americans, but neither go into great detail. Williams s monograph includes
information on Edward and Wallis s early lives, how they met, and their deaths.
The vast majority of the text focuses on the couple during abdication crisis of
1936: Williams details the divorce of Wallis and Ernest, the King s decision to
marry Wallis, and the process of the abdication. While Williams did provide a few
examples of American headlines showing support for the marriage, she did not
explore American opinion of the marriage in depth. Instead, she used this mention of
the American press to redirect focus onto the agreement the British press made with
the King to avoid mention of the relationship. Mort, in his article, looks at letters to
the king, primarily from women (some of whom were Americans) expressing
empathy for his situation, to consider public opinion on the monarchy, with the aim
of determining how public perception of the monarchy was changed by Edward VIII
s short reign and its dramatic end. Both of these authors do note the role the media
had in public opinion on the King s affair, but neither explore it in
34. Essay on Othello as a Black Man in a White Society
Othello as a Black Man in a White Society
Shakespeare s play,Othello, explores themes of love and passion, otherness ,
jealousy, revenge and order vs. Chaos, which all revolve mainly around the
protagonist, Othello. Surrounded by Venetians within a white society, Othello begins
to realise his otherness thus his insecurities as an outside and a Moor increase. The
deceptive Iago uses these dangerous blemishes in Othello s personality to manipulate
the moral Othello, using his one fatal flaw, jealousy.
During the 16th Century, the Elizabethan audiences attentiveness and familiarity of
the thin line between order and chaos would have added to the tragic story of
Othello. This was due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What he meant by this is that Othello is a foreigner to all, because of his blackness
he can never fit in. However, this is ironic as the people of Venice accepted Othello
as a righteous and valiant general in the army, due to his brave act of protecting the
Venetians from the evil grasp of the Turkish people.
Interestingly enough, these Venetians don t compare Othello to the supposedly
iniquitous Turks because he had defeated them, so they placed him higher up in
the hierarchy of racial and social class. Iago expresses his own opinion that Othello
is an erring barbarian which is very ironic as Othello has the status of a shielding
warrior, a generous being that is a strong part of the army. Roderigo calls him the
lascivious Moor and tends to see Othello s black colour as a sign of dirtiness and
obscenity. The characters in Othello may possible have felt that Othello was a threat
due to his otherness in his appearance, such as his thick lips .
Othello s character is overtly and crudely sexualised, which is also a disadvantage to
Othello as other characters begin to believe that he is aggressive and sadistic. Black
people, during the time of Shakespeare, were mysterious to the white society.
Venetians were not used to seeing and living with people of other races and feared
them because they were not familiar with

Marc F. Bernstein s comment in The Sunday Review portion of The New York
Times states that there are a large number of highly under scheduled high school
seniors. Bernstein implies that the last year of high school for some students is a
waste of time. Even though most seniors may be under scheduled by having multiple
lunches or only two or three classes, being a senior is more about the classes you
take. Most of the students that only have three classes most likely have duel
enrolment classes in addition to their high schoolcourses. Not only are they getting
credits for collegeand high school, they are also getting free college classes and
books. Even though these students are under scheduled they have an advantage to
take college classes and or go to work during the time that they are not at high
school. Only having two or three classes in a day could be used as an advantage to
many students. I myself, a senior at Pace High School, only have three classes then

differentiation between who is committing which types of crime. the Letric Law
Library defines white and blue collar crime as, Blue collar crime is a term given to
criminal acts more likely to be committed by citizens of lower social class in
society, such as those which inflict direct harm on the person or property of others.
This is in contrast to white collar crime, which is generally committed by citizens
of higher social class, who are more likely to be presented with the opportunity to
commit such crimes. (Blue Collar Crime). Blue collar crimes are more likely to be
of a violent nature and committed by people in a lower economic position.
Although White collar crime can be extremely harmful, it is not generally
physical, or physically damaging and for the most part committed by people of a
higher social status. For the purposes of this paper, blue collar crime as it has been
defined will be the focus. Urban crime is being committed at a higher rate than rural
crime, according to National Crime Vitim s Survey, In 2012, the rate of violent

37. Analysis Of Stalingrad
THE BATTLE OF STALINGRAD
In August 1942, Hitler s giant Sixth Army marched to the city that was named after
Stalin. During the five month siege, the Russians fought to hold the city and were
determined to hold it at any cost. The book Stalingrad shows the roles of soldiers on
both the Russian and German side, as well as fighting in inhuman conditions, and
some of the experiences from civilians who were trapped in the battlefield. Written
by historian and author Antony Beevor, Beevor interviewed some of the survivors
and discovered new untold stories and facts in a wide range of German and Soviet
archives. Some of these included prisoner interrogations and reports of desertions and
executions. Many historians argue that the Battle of Stalingrad was the turning point
of WW II in Europe. During the course of the war, changes in moods, thoughts, and
impressions of the Germans, Romanians, and Soviets were easily depicted. It
documents the impact on the psychological changes of the war but justifies how it
changed the history of modern warfare as we know it. As a story of cruelty, courage,
and human suffering, Stalingrad is extraordinary and unforgettable.
Throughout the war Hitler and Stalin made many mistakes and errors, Hitler s ego
was dangerous to the Germans and his own political power. Hitler s biggest
mistake was to stop listening to his generals who were giving him advice based on
experience and impose his own will on the army . His arrogance and overconfidence

In the 21st century, the enforcement of gender roles are not only between man and
women, but also women and women. Long story short, my husband is ten years

low income family, and I don t make a six figure salary. Hence, I felt that every
time I hang out with my husband s friends or family, I don t fit in, or don t have

40. The Boston University Archaeology Department Essay
On May 9th, 2016, the Boston University Archaeology Department held a public
outreach event called, Eating Archaeology , where guests were served foods from
four different time periods and places: Bronze age Mycenae, Bronze age China, Pre
Columbian Mesoamerica, specifically the Aztecs, and mid 19th century Boston. The
creation of these dishes was made possible through analyzing archaeological sites
through the lens of the newly popularized sub field, archaeologyof the senses, which
studies how the materiality of the world contributes to and is influenced by how
humans use their senses (Hamilakis 4). Through analyzing the bodily senses,
archaeologists can create a more detailed interpretation of the experiences of ancient
humans (Hamilakis i). This new interest in the sensory aspect of human culture
brings a fascination with the types of foods that people consumed in the past. With
this in mind, a group of graduate students in the fields of archaeology, food history,
and gastronomy, at Boston University, collaborated to test if material remains can be
used to recreate ancient recipes. Through eating these foods, one can glimpse a part
of the culture that ate the dish, illustrating the power of taste, and demonstrating that
archaeology can be used to create something tangible for the public. This paper will
focus on the research process for the mid 19th century brothel site, located in Boston,
and how the materials gathered during excavation were used to reconstruct the
41. Talk Show Sociology
From the perspective of the content discussed in these shows, there seem to be a push
to distort the meaning of parenthood whereby children can punish their parents thus
placing a burden to the parents. Another symbol that seems to change under the
watch of the talk shows is the marital role. In some culture, the man is expected to
provide for the familyfinancially while the woman should plan everything in the
household. However, these shows promote equal sharing of duties and
responsibilities, which may not agree with some cultures. The meaning of divorce
has also changed over time as more viewership of the talk shows grows.
The functionalist sociological perspective assumes that deviance contributes to
social order by initiating social change. As a result, the talk shows seem to direct
the audience and viewers to experience strain thereby end up becoming deviant
instead of conforming to the cultural goals. Additionally, power plays a critical role
in ascertaining the behaviors that should be regarded as criminal or acceptable. By
promoting violence to solve minor issues, Jerry Springer uses his power to drive
people toward accepting such behavior and practicing it over time. ... Show more

The talk shows play a critical part in promoting social change, whereby more
people adopt the behavior the shows promote and due to the mass support, these
behaviors become acceptable. When the young people are blocked from doing some
activities by their parents, they experience some strain, which in turn leads to
rebellion to replace the society s goals. The rebellion leads young people to try out
behaviors promoted by the shows, such as premarital sex, indecent dressing, and

The Father of American Literature
Samuel Langhorne Clemens, more commonly known as Mark Twain, is not just a
name most people know. It is a man of history who is said to be the Father of
American Literature. Although there are other great authors of this time, Mark Twain
used many different styles of writing within his work that helped to create the
mastermind of a writer he once was and so that it would live on to be talked about
today. Twain used a very relaxed style of writing that hadn t been used by any other
author during this point in time. With his writing of amazing stories about Tom
Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, the mighty Mississippi River, and many more Mark Twain
created adventure for the average American with his humor, attention to details, and
the realism he used. These stories along with many others help prove he is the
greatest influence to American Literature.

43. The Call By Yannick Murphy
Book Review: The Call by Yannick Murphy One of Yannick Murphy s most
respected reads, The Call , was published in 2011 by HarperCollins Publishers.
Murphy s imaginative and tactical writing style creates a novel that takes the reader
on an emotional rollercoaster. In The Call , readers will be faced with question,
uncertainty, anger, and hardship, with welcomed highlights of family unity, humor
and undying passion. The unusual writing style at first seems unappealing but,
within a few pages the book quickly develops into a compelling read. The book
contains an assembly of diverse characters allowing readers to bond with the novel.
As someone who recently finished The Call and as my first Yannick Murphy
novel, I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed the story. In a small town
of New England a close knit family lives in the outskirts of town enjoying all that
nature has to offer. Told as a narrative through David Appleton s log we learn a lot
about him, his wife Jen, and their three children Mia, Sarah and Sam. Additionally,
we meet many more characters through David s numerous veterinarian calls. In great
detail we are witnessed to both the delightful and unpleasant perks of David s work.
Oddly, an unknown caller turns up randomly throughout the novel. The strength of
the family is tested once a terrible hunting accident lands Sam in a comma. During
David s obsessive search to find out who hurt Sam he often believes the unknown
caller knows what happened to

46. Bear Hunt Illustration
The children s book We re Going on a Bear Hunt utilises the switching between black
and white illustrations and full colour effectively. The pages of the story that are in
black and white occur when the family meet an obstacle, such as long wavy grass ,
and once they have overcome said obstacle the illustration returns to colour. It repeats
in this manner throughout the picture books entirety. In doing this, the illustrator has
emphasised the texts gloominess and foreboding of what the familywill have to do (
we have to go through it ).
The way this text has been structured by combining the aperture, exposition and
inciting moment. The first sentence We re going on a bearhunt tells the reader what
the story is going to entail whilst giving away what future conflict they could be if
the family were to find a bear. The exposition is also viewed here as the reader,
with the illustrations help, knows that we (the family) are who is involved and it is
a beautiful day in the country. Conflict rises steadily on every second page revealing
a new hurdle the family has to conquer (mud, lake etc) but is resolved immediately
until the climax when the big bear is found and is not happy to see them. As the ...

For example, splash splosh , squelch squerch and hooo wooo , were utilised to
engage the audience s mind with the motions of wading through a river, trudging
their way through mud and the sounds of a snow storm. This method is more
effective at engaging than simply stating the mud was squishy or the river was wet .
On a whole, the text has a good sense of rhythm and musicality. Even though the
sentences are few and short, the receptiveness and use onomatopoeic words helps
the story flow. The sounds of words increase the appeal and strength of a story (3)

47. Telling In River Of Smoke
There are just two methods of portrayal in narratology irrespective of any dialect and
these modes are diegesis i.e. telling and mimesis i.e. showing . In telling a story the
author/narrator frequently meddles, comments and gives data about the anecdotal
material in the span of account. While in showing the author minimizes his /her
presence in the narrativeand it is upon the reader to encounter and comprehend the
narrative own his own. Both the methods of portrayal telling and showing are
utilised though much inclination is given to telling . In River of Smoke the author
recourses to telling in a remarkable way as he wishes to impart and share maximum
data of the period with the readers with respect to opium trade and war,
48. Hmong Vs. Hmong Languages
Belonging to one of the largest ethnic groups in Asia, the Hmong language has an
ample number of speakers, however the distance between the communities has
prevented the widespread use of the language and has also created several distinct
dialects. In order to prevent this language from unnecessarily going extinct, moving
forward with preventative preservation measures, specifically in regards to education,
is imperative. Such measures may include immersion schools, computer programs,
and bilingual education.
Background and History
Hmong is a minority language of the ‎Hmong Mien‎ language family and it is
spoken by approximately three million people. It has no official status in the
countries in which it is spoken, which include China, Vietnam, Lao, Burma, Thailand,
France, and the United States. The language consists of a number of dialects due to
the widespread speaker base, many of which are immensely distinct from one another
and thus could be considered separate languages.
The two major dialects of Hmong are White Hmong [Hmong Daw] and Green
Hmong [Hmong Njua]. Green Hmong [Hmong Njua] is spoken primarily in
southwestern China, Northern Vietnam, and Laos, while White Hmong [Hmong
Daw] is spoken in countries to which people of the Hmong language immigrated such
as France and the United States (Hmong Language).

51. Biography Of Robert Bruce Anthony Brownell
Obituary
Robert Bruce Anthony Brownell was born to loving and supportive parents, Kevin
Brownell and Bonnie Piccolo in Hartford, CT on April 29th 1987. Rob was a
troubled and lonely child until just before high school when he finally made some
friends. He and his friends were preoccupied with living an enjoyable but careless
lifestyle and considered school merely as an unavoidable annoyance. After graduating
from Avon High Schoolin 2005 he continued to spend many years engaging in
debauchery with his friends. Sometime around 2008, Rob began to discover a love
of philosophy which encouraged him to think more critically of himself and those he
surrounded himself with. This discovery also led to a love of reading and learning,
and Rob returned to school to study philosophy.
Financial issues often got in the way of achieving his goals, most notably a leg
injury that left him in a considerable amount of debt and caused him to leave his
school in Olympia, Washington to return to Connecticut to live with his parents. The
debt made him unable to transfer to finish his degree so he worked and saved for 3
years to pay it all off, and finally returned to school.
Over the years, Rob slowly got over a nagging feeling of loneliness whenever he
was by himself, and eventually became very comfortable in time spent alone. Rob
never got to achieve his dream of getting a Bachelor s degree in philosophy, going to
law school, and working for the ACLU, but he consistently strived to achieve

The 1980 s Derg revolution in Ethiopia is truly the beginning of my story. In the
1980 s, the violent rule of the Derg led both my parents to flee to Sudan where they
eventually met. After years of applications to foreign countries, my parents gained
visas to America as refugees in 1989 and moved around until settling in Florida in
1993. Their move to the Americas allowed me to gain access to the American
education system and eventually to American colleges. When I was approximately

I was reintroduced to a significant portion of my family, and I learned the conditions
that people lived in outside of developed countries. My determination to help people
stems to an extent from this event in my life because I ve had the privilege to witness
the unfortunate circumstances that people often experience when others are not
paying attention or simply do not care. After my trip to Africa, my parents announced
that they were purchasing a gas station. I witnessed my parent work hard to sustain
our advantaged lifestyle, and I worked alongside them learning all of the skills and
effort that it took to make one s business successful. I began to appreciate the
amount of effort my parents put in towards achieving the lifestyle that we lived. For
about 3 years, I attended a local private Christian school until I eventually transferred
to a private Catholic school to complete my middle school education. The school s
inability to educate their students left me approximately a year behind in my classes.
