Essay On Crimes
Crafting an essay on this subject presents a formidable challenge, requiring a deep understanding
of criminology, legal frameworks, societal norms, and ethical considerations. Delving into the
multifaceted nature of crimes demands meticulous research to grasp the various typologies,
causes, and effects. Moreover, analyzing pertinent case studies and statistical data is essential to
provide empirical evidence supporting arguments. Additionally, navigating the intricate web of
theories and perspectives, ranging from classical to modern, poses a daunting task in constructing
a coherent narrative.
Furthermore, addressing the complexities of crime prevention strategies, rehabilitation efforts,
and the criminal justice system requires nuanced insights and critical analysis. Balancing the
exploration of theoretical frameworks with practical applications and real-world examples adds
another layer of complexity to the essay. Moreover, tackling sensitive topics such as the socio-
economic disparities, psychological factors, and cultural influences intertwined with criminal
behavior demands a delicate approach to maintain objectivity and sensitivity.
Conclusively, composing an essay on this theme necessitates a comprehensive understanding of
interdisciplinary fields, adept research skills, and adept analytical capabilities. It entails grappling
with moral dilemmas, engaging with divergent perspectives, and presenting a well-reasoned
argument supported by credible sources. Thus, navigating the intricacies of this topic requires a
blend of academic rigor, critical thinking, and empathetic understanding.

Essay about The Impact Media has During War
The Impact Media has During War
Spanish American War of 1898
It was late in the evening and the battleship the Maine drifted calmly through the
water of Havana to protect Americas interests stated be Fitzhugh Lee. Everything
seemed to be looking bright with a new Spanish ruler in Cuba. Even many of the
officers were entertained by the Spanish and thoughts of going home were in the air.
The small battleship was second class to that of its counterparts in the Pacific. It was
the biggest battleship to enter the Havana harbor. As soon as the calmnight appeared,
roaring explosions and blinding flashes filled the air. Could the battleship Maine be
under attack while on such great terms? Captain Sigsbee as he was writing a letter ...

The media was the cause of such an uproar from the general public. Soon after the
explosion and before the investigations, the newspapers already wrote about Spain
attacking and for the people to be ready for the war. This wasn t the first time the
newspaper started such pandemonium. It all started with Joseph Pulitzer and William
Randolph Hearst starting a form of writing called yellow journalism. These two
people brought media into a war and may have even started the Spanish American
War of 1898.
To get an idea of what truly happened, the background of this war must be stated. At
this time Cuba was trying to gain independence form Spain. Spain was trying to so
anything in their power to control this. So the decided to hire General Valeriano
Weyler to do all of their dirty work for them. He had a past that was very violent
when it came to wars. He decided to establish a system called the reconcentrado.
This was a system where they decided to take all the Cubans that lived in the country
side and put them in camps where they did not have a possibility to join the
revolution. With all of these things happening in Cuba, President Cleveland and
President McKinley wanted to stay neutral. Also during this time, the United States
was still thinking about the idea of Manifest Destiny and American Imperialism.
Since land has already been claimed by the United States from coast to coast, they
have to search elsewhere for expanding the country.
The Doolittle Raid
When most people think about the top school in the world for math, science,
engineering and technology, they usually think of Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech has its
perks, but there are such better options, such as the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, or commonly known as MIT. According to the name, MIT is located in
Cambridge, Massachusetts. The schoolis considered one of the hardest schools in
the US to get into, have an acceptance rate of 7.9%, and the average GPA is around
4.13, but it is highly worth your while. A lot of famous people have gone to MIT.
An example of a successful leader who went to MIT was James Doolittle, the
leader of the Doolittle Raid (http://archive.boston.com/lifestyle). The Doolittle raid
was one of the most famous raids in the history of WW2, mental scarring the
Japanese, while not doing that much damage to the actual landscape. Then we have
Buzz Aldrin, who also went to MIT. If you don t know who Buzz Aldrin is, he was
the second person to walk on the moon. There is also Richard Feynman, who studied
theoretical physic, and Andrew Wong, the CEO of Sony. As you can see with these
famous people, they were able to become very successful by going to this... Show

As seen by Quora, the most popular curse in all of MIT is Electrical Engineering
and Computer Science. This is because of people wanting to work at places such as

says that the least popular majors include the musical arts, history, and comparative
media (https://www.quora.com) . They also have plenty of other courses, such as
fencing and sailing. Both of these courses are apart of the Pirate s Certificate, a
certificate given to students that take fencing, pistol, sailing, and archery. To put the
nail in the fun classes coffin, MIT has there own toy lab class.

well its 10 minutes till 3 a.m. Old people do have a tendency to get up early. I might
as well admit it, I m 85 soon. Very soon and lord willing I ll make it to 95. Time
passes faster nowadays. Anyway, I have learned in my old age that this is the good
part of the day. I leave the T.V off and its very quiet. Even though my hearing isn t
what it used to be I believe that i could hear the pin drop.
Time to just sit and think.

I ve had more experience in this area. So if I have the privilege to write more
articles, I ll deal with what the good book really says. I would like to start with a few
statements so that you wont think that I just escaped from the funny farm.
I know we have had some fine preachers in our community, men who have lived
their lives really trying to serve and help the people. These good and honest men
would never knowingly teach anything wrong that would cause you to be lost.
Next I know there are good people in every church in our community, not just good
but really good, the best kind of neighbors who are always ready to help when
needed. However in teaching we must be specific or we don t apply the lesson to
ourselves.
One example is Matthew 7:21 23. Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord , will
enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my father who
is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord we did not prophesy in
your name and in your name drive out the demons and in your name preform many
miracles? And then I tell them plainly I never knew you. Get away from me, you

Black Like Me The Fire Next Time Paper
Once, race and religion were two traditional structural components of society from
the past, but today the two act as social dividers. The disconnection of people of
varying beliefs and races as well as the misunderstanding of each other in societies
are issues well interpreted in the novels, Black Like Me, by John Howard Griffin
and The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin. Both authors would agree that
something must be done to bridge the gap in racially segregated society. From a
personal perspective, as long as there are people who think they are socially and
spiritually different from others, there will always be misunderstanding between
people. Griffin feels it is necessary to understand the hardship of blacks in the United

The first essay is about James Baldwin s personal perspective of being black in
racist America. The second essay goes on to how religion and Christianity allowed
the segregation and oppression of blacks to grow between both whites and blacks
of the United States (Baldwin, 1963). Christianity in the United States can be
easily be compared to the opiate of the masses. Religion controlled the lives of the
whites and forced the blacks to live under the oppressive rule of the whites. It is
suggested by the author that for America to become as effective as it can, the people
must give up on religion. The author believes that religion and Christian beliefs set up
limitations for the potential growth of the nation (Baldwin, 1963). Baldwin also
explains that Americans are forced to believe what they are taught and say or do
nothing against it American society s indoctrinating culture. Whites and Blacks have
been blinded to their own individual and societal truths, the truth being that they are
all equal. Growing up, I felt as if I had two identities, one as a Christian amongst
many non Christian Indians and the other as an Indian among many white people.
Fitting into either group was hard because of my racial and religious limitations.
Much like John Howard Griffin from Black Like Me, I was able to switch from one
racial group to another, somewhat understanding yet not completely grasping both
perspectives. In most of my
Essay on Tim s Coffee Shop
Executive Summary Tim s Coffee Shoppe set up outside looks very appealing for
customers to go inside and have a cup of coffee. When looking at the inside the
atmosphere looks appealing for customers. The business is also open every day from
6am to 2am with a bus stop close to the business so it is easier to get too when not
having a vehicle. Notice that the restaurant is located next to the college. With having
a coffee shop next to a college this will mostly attract more college students and also
with having live entertainment this should get more customers to come in. With the
live entertainment I noticed that there is no time schedule to when the live

Management Management in Tim s Coffee Shoppe are doing a good job at
making sure that the restaurant is passing their inspections, but some of them have
slacked on making sure that the employees fill out their time cards correctly. There
has been one employee that has received four warnings throughout working at Tim
s Coffee Shoppe, this employees warnings involve being rude to the customers and
to the other employees that also work there. Most of the employees enjoy working
there and with their managers. However there is one employee that felt like she
was not going to get anywhere by working so she is going to put her two weeks in
so she can go work for one of the competitors. One employee suggests that they
need to have better cash registers so they do not have to go through the paper
receipts to make sure everything is accounted for at the ending of a shift. With the
one person that keeps getting the warnings I suggest of letting him go so there is no
more problems between him and the customers or employees. When the one
employee suggested that the new owner to get new cash registers I feel that it might
be a good idea so it is much easier to keep track of what is being sold. Also to keep
better track of the mistakes that might happen during the shifts. Also with having
better cash registers the restaurant could always start accepting

4 ADVANCES IN SURGICAL HISTORY The Adelphi University posted an article
about some of the new advances in the field of surgery. The face of medicine is
now changing every day thanks to technology, its improvement has helped
surgeons all over the world discover new procedures. The author mainly uses
logical appeal to present their points on some of the advancements improving in the
field of surgery. One of the surgical technology advancements was the Laparoscopic
surgery which has been around since the 1900 s and is still being used today by
surgeons. This procedure allows surgeons to see real time images which are captured
by the little camera attached onto the laparoscope. Therefore, this helps surgeons
perform surgeries faster and safer. The author logically appeals to the audience by

allows surgeons to receive data up to 10.5 seconds faster than the control group. In
addition, it lets them know the patients records while treating them. Moreover, these
advancements have improved the field pf surgery because it helps improve surgeon
s performance on the patient s care. This information builds up the authors point
because it lets the audience know of what is occurring in the field of surgery and
how these advancements are becoming better every day in order to help surgeons
perform better, safer surgeries leading to faster recoveries. The author lacks in using
opposing viewpoints because their focus is more on facts and information rather than
negative things. He uses the logical fallacy stacking the deck to prove his points,

Alloy Wheel Protectors Research Paper
Alloy Wheel Protector: The Best Way to Safeguard Your Rims
Wheels enhance the appearance of cars and increase their value. Despite the
benefits, they are easily damaged by routine driving. As wheels become damaged,
their appearance diminishes and can lead to subsequent damage. Additionally, repair
for wheels and rims is expensive and time consuming. The most leading edge and
best solution for safeguarding wheels is an alloy wheel protector.
Protecting Your Investment
Wheels are not cheap even though they can be damaged in a blink of an eye. Minor
damage can quickly lead to erosion and alter the integrity of the wheel. As such,
protecting wheels is essential. Alloy wheel protectors help to cover up preexisting
damage while also preventing more scratches and dents from occurring. The protector

Tires often have to be removed and most repairs require a technician. Wheel
protectors are a nice alternative to expensive repairs.
The protectors do not require a technician and can be applied to all four tires in less
than ten minutes. Additionally, they are much cheaper than getting the rim repaired.
The protectors cover the damage and make it seem as if it was never there, making
wheels look new again without ever having to consult a technician.
Wheels in and of themselves are expensive, keeping them fresh should not be. Wheel
protectors are an inexpensive way to maintain wheels.
Variety of Colors and Options
Wheel protectors come in many different colors, allowing them to be a nice
enhancement to the wheel. In addition to providing protecting, they can add
additional style to the car. For example, for red cars, a red alloy wheel protector may
help to bring out the color. The color choices are endless, creating an opportunity to

Essay On Buying A New Home
Families who are getting ready to buy their first home are sure to be bombarded
with advice on how to go about purchasing it. With so much advice, it may be hard
to know exactly how to get started with financing a first home. Having a step by step
guide can help first time home buyers through this process.
Types of mortgages
It is essential for people who are ready to buy a home to have a basic understanding
of the different types of mortgages. Depending on a family s financial circumstances,
there are several ways to go about financing a new home. Different types of mortgages

This information will help make it clearer what type of loan will be in the buyer s
best interest. It also helps to be familiar with the term when talking with a mortgage
loan officer. If he sees that the buyer understands the terminology, he will be more
likely to offer the best mortgage loan offer possible.
Will you need PMI insurance?
The need for PMI insurance is something that is misunderstood by many people
buying a home for the first time. Whether or not the buyer needs PMI mortgage
insurance will depend on the personal financial circumstances and the type of
mortgage loan. The loan officer will advise the buyer before closing if PMI
insurance is required. There are advantages and disadvantages to having PMI
mortgage insurance, and also ways to avoid it altogether.
Understanding mortgage points and closing costs
Another consideration for people who are preparing to purchase their first home is
the additional costs that can be added by mortgage points and the various types of
closing costs. It is in the buyer s best interest to understand each aspect of mortgage
points and closing points thoroughly before signing any loan closing paperwork.
Using a mortgage calculator
It takes a great deal of financial planning to prepare for the purchase of a home. A
mortgage calculator can help buyers determine the affordability of a mortgage and
whether or not they will have difficulty in keeping up with the monthly mortgage
notes. It
The Roles and Influences of Media on Crime
In the political world, media has both a positive and negative affect. Americans as a
whole are engrossed with crime whether it be a fictional representation on a person s
favorite television show, or a true story the nightly news. The entertainment media
influences our lives in consciously and subconsciously, day in and day out, playing a
critical and constantly cultivating role in the criminal justicesystem and the conduct of
politics.
How exactly does one determine what media is? According to your standard Google
search on the definition of the term, media is, the main means of mass
communication (esp. television, radio, newspapers, and the Internet) regarded
collectively. Broken down, this ultimately means that any means by which
information is spread can be considered media. Even from the founding of the United
States, freedom and active accessibility of press and media has taken a serious part in
American politics. It would be difficult to imagine politics with out the
accompaniment or presence of the media. The availability of political information
through media resources has changed over time with the advancement of technology
and overall globalization of our modern world.
FUNCTIONS
Mass media is not only built on entertainment value alone, but it also has political
importance. By the time the average high school student has graduated, they have
spent more time in front of the television than in a classroom, and in that classroom
time, often the information that

speaking through the narrator, Linda Brent, to reveal her reasons for making public
her personal story of enslavement, degradation, and sexual exploitation. Although

Harriet Jacobs s Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl: A Harrowing Escape from Abuse
During the Antebellum period, our young slave girl, in Harriet Jacobs s novel
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, seeks release from the horrors of a cruel,
sadistic white plantation owner (vii) in a cruel, sadistic world that sees her as nothing
more than property. The psychological tribulation Harriet Jacobs endures makes her a
sympathetic character for the abolitionist movement spearheaded by the north. She is
faced and burdened with the issues of self identity, self preservation, and freedom, yet
she is unrelenting in her determination to secure a life in which she has sole control.

Motivation of Money in Oak Island Money Pit by Lee Lamb
Many people in the world are motivated by money. Whether in the form of treasure
or cash, people will come looking for it. The mystery of a money pit off the shores
of Nova Scotia, Canada has attracted treasure hunters for hundreds of years. Scientists
have been trying to discover not only what lies at the bottom, but also how the
treasuregot to Oak Island. Although there is much disagreement about who left the
treasure behind on Oak Island, the most logical explanation is that the British
created the money pit in the mid 16th century for safe keeping of their newly
acclaimed treasure. Oak Island is an uninhabited 140 acre island located just off
the shores of Nova Scotia, Canada. It is part of a chain of approximately 360
islands in Mahone Bay (Scott). Despite such a small area, this island is home to
the historically famous Oak Island Money Pit. This mystery has brought thousands
of people to the island in hopes of finding buried treasure. Most people are
unsuccessful while looking for the treasure, and leave the island with same
superstitions they came with. The chapter in history regarding Oak Island Money
Pit occurred when it was first discovered in the summer of 1795. Dan McGinnis, a
teenager who lived on the shore of nearby Nova Scotia, reportedly saw strange lights
on the island. McGinnis boarded a small canoe alone to explore the island late that
night. Upon first exploration, he found a large hole in the ground measuring 13 feet
in diameter. He also
Mother To Son By Langston Hughes Meaning
There is no mystery in Mother to Son as to who is speaking to whom. In fact, the
title of the poem alone provides all of the exposition needed to understand that this
piece is set up as a mother s advice to her son. Presumably, this poem represents the
advice that Langston Hughes may have received from his own mother. The imagery
of a staircase opens up the work, which begins, Well, son, I ll tell you: / Life for me
ain t been no crystal stair (Hughes 1 2). Line two, in particular, immediately conjures
several associations in the mind of the reader. First, many audiences will be familiar
with the concept of a stairway to heaven, as such a proverbial structure is mentioned
often through world history in works such as the Bible and other... Show more content

It s had tacks in it, / And splinters, / And boards torn up, / And places with no carpet
on the floor / Bare (Hughes 3 7). Clearly, this woman s life has been difficult. More
than that, by using imagery of tacks, splinters, and torn up boards, the mother is
telling her son that at times her life has been outright dangerous. It is no mistake
that Hughes chooses to use images of objects that can easily do physical harm.
Lines three through seven confirm that the mother s life journey has been more
than hard; indeed, it has been perilous. However, as the poem continues, mother
tells son that she has always managed to advance in spite of the obstacles on her
particular staircase. But all the time / I se been a climbin on, / And reachin landin
s, / And turnin corners, / And sometimes goin in the dark / Where there ain t been
no light (Hughes 8 13). During these lines, the tone of the poem slowly turns from
hopeless to hopeful. True, the mother s life has been dangerous a fraught with
obstacles, and yet she has thus far overcome each one of her challenges. The
phrases, reachin landin s and turnin corners instill a sense of success in the mind of
the reader, as both are common colloquial sayings that reflect a reprieve from
hardship or a change for the better. Even through the darkness, still the mother climbs
on. In other words, though she is at times unsure of her current position, she never

him to write All Summer in a Day. The story uses foreshadowing to reveal the
themes of jealousy and isolation. Ray Bradbury went through several life events
that led him to write the sci fi short story All Summer in a Day. In Ray Bradbury s

David Foster Wallace s View Of Life
From the long lines at the grocery store to the hectic traffic jams home, it s not
unreasonable to say that life has its share of annoyances. A quite common response
to these sort of holdups would be to react with anger, often asking something along
the lines of: Why did this happen to me, of all people? While frustration seems to be
a very popular response towards these ordeals, David Foster Wallace believes that
such a perspective is self centered and a result of people using their natural default
setting. Wallace argues that choosing to view these situations with more empathy is a
much healthier approach, rather than allowing small issues to remain constantly
frustrating. Coming from my past experience as a reclusive, apathetic teenager...

Wallace describes operating on your natural default setting as the unconscious
belief that I am the center of the world, and that my immediate needs and feelings
are what should determine the world s priorities. (7) Wallace argues that operating
on your natural default setting will only lead to coming up with annoying and
miserable (9) explanations for everyday frustrations, and describes being able to
have empathy as the freedom of a real education, of learning how to be well
adjusted. (8) I find it very easy to draw a parallel between these two points and my
own life, specifically my relationship with my father. When I was younger I always
believed he did things solely to frustrate me, whether we were talking about chores,
work or school, I d always get upset and accuse him of deliberately trying to irritate.
The summer before college though, I got to spend a lot more time with him and felt
like I started to understand him more. Since then, I no longer get upset or frustrated
at some of the small demands he has for me, and I m a lot happier as a result of it.
This supports Wallace s point that through a more understanding perspective, it s
easier to find good in otherwise frustrating
The Surveillance System Of Egypt
Since 2013, including president El Sissy s first year in power, there have been no
real political or security reforms. The current regime continued to work without a
legislative body for more than two years, with the president issuing hundreds of
legislative bills without any real community or political dialogue (Abd Rabou 2015) .
The surveillance system in Egypt simply does not work while the presidency and
other securityservices have a strict hold on power and while human rightsviolations
are made by police officers in police stations, prison cells, and even on the streets.
All of which is a continued replay of Mubarak s security policies. The constitution
has been violated many times by the regime and the president declared it to be too
ambitious .
Moreover, with the continuing distrust of the judicial system and its bias against
most opponents of the regime including youth, Islamists and non Islamists; and also
with the traumatisation and nationalisation of most of media platforms, terrorism has
continued to hit Egypt. ISIS and other terrorist groups are able to recruit more
members who are angered and frustrated by the regime. Shutting out many political
forces from politics in particular and the public space in general has led to an
increase in political violence.
The current regime s fiscal and economic policies, therefore, are not productive and
are lacking transparency, accountability, and feasibility not to mention distributive
mechanisms. As El Sheneity

Role of Poetry in Narrative Prose of the Heian Period Essay
Japanese literature in the Heian period was most popular for its domination of
women s culture (Hooker, Richard). During this time, a new writing technique was
implemented called hiragana. This was especially accepted as a woman s way of
writing since a woman knowing Chinese characters was considered unladylike. For
many years Chinese characters was the only accepted way of writing, thus the birth
of a new writing technique was like a revelation. This incorporation made a huge
impact on Japanese literature, since long before it existed, most techniques were
adopted from the Chinese. The most popular works during this time included various
monogatarisuch as Ise monogatari and Taketori monogatari, and most popular, Genji
monogatari.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The earliest full fledge narrative is Taketori monogatari, also known as The
Bamboo Cutter. The author is unknown, but said to be a woman since written in
kana, since only men knew kanji and Chinese characters. It is a story of Kaguya
Hime, a moon princess, who is also immortal, and who was sent to earth as
punishment. Her founder finds her in bamboo, when she is only inches tall, and
he takes her in as his own daughter and raises her, loves her as his own, and is
devastated when she has to go back. The imagery in this tale is so strong. You can
see and imagine all of the places where the suitors lie about or actually do go to.
The imagination needed to create such an in depth story is truly amazing. The
most popular and lasting piece is Genji monogatari written by Murasaki Shikibu.
Genji monogatari is most well known for being one of the greatest novels in world
literature. The story is not accepted by all women since it reveals the type of man
Genji was. He was known to rape and kidnap women and a lot of women still get
angry with this. Still today, women do not like Genji. The role of poetryin Genji is to
play into the character that Genji is supposed to be. In the story he is handsome
and loved by all, but also makes love to a lot of women all the time. He writes
poems about his relationships with women, good and bad. In the story he is perfect,
including the fact that he is a perfect

Daimler Benz and Chrysler Corporation ?

Executive Summary
This case study explores the failure of the merger of two renowned car companies,
Daimler Benz and Chrysler and how the integration of the two contrasting
organisational cultures resulted in a cross cultural mismatch. Due to the lack of
cultural understanding from both sides, the notion of potential synergies as a result
of the combination went unrealised. The study/research of cross cultural management
in organisations plays an important role in fathoming why this merger was
unsuccessful. Introduction

According to a study on cultural strategies (Steven H. Appelbaum et al, 2009), the
assessment of these cultural variables within organisations has significant relevance
to the success of their integration; simply assessing the cultural similarity/differences
increase the odds of successful mergers. The more compatible the companies are, the
less likely they will face adversity. When it came to operations and management,
Daimler Benz and Chrysler could not properly blend due to Germans and Americans
contrasting approaches of administrative issues, as well as communication styles and
other differences. In fact, a vast number of significant Chrysler executives and
engineers resigned which lead to the dissatisfaction of Daimler employees with
Chrysler s division performance. As a result, the two cultures were extremely
unhappy working together. One of the Daimler managers (JГјrgen Hubbert) stated
prior to the merger, We have a clear understanding: one company, one vision, one
chairman, two cultures. , however failing to realise that they were two cultures with
strong distinctive heritages in other words, it was a failure of fit (The Economist The
DaimlerChrysler emulsion , 2000). It was evident that the people suffered from culture
shock, as they were systematically confronted with behaviour not compatible with
their own culturally determined rules of behaviour (Gerhard Fink et al, 2007). It was
obvious that there was a lack of cross cultural management from

The Tuberculosis Epidemic
The Tuberculosis Epidemic
When most hear the word tuberculosis they will associate it with a time where
medicine was very underdeveloped. Many would be amazed to know that, while
reading this sentence, a victim dies of TB (Farrell 113). To First World countries,
tuberculosis is not a common disease. This is because so many of the victims are
in developing countries. In reality, TB kills millions a year and should not be
ignored just because epidemics other epidemics affect a more diverse group of people.
Tuberculosis is caused mainly in humans by a bacteria called Mycobacterium
tuberculosis (MTB) (Harvard Medical School). It can also be caused by
Mycobacterium bovis (Bates Ciment 2013). The tuberculosis bacilli is about two
millionths of a meter long (Farrell 113) and is spread through the air by coughing.
After the tuberculosis enters the body, it quickly spreads (Harvard Medical
School). When most bacteria enters the body, it gets caught in the mucus in the
airway. TB bacilli are such tiny droplets that it slips past the mucus and into the
lung s air sacs (Farrell 114). It hides in the lungs since there is plenty of oxygen. TB

Comparing The Bridegroom, Saboteur, And Before The Law
According to Aristotle Man is a social animal , however when an individual is
forced to decide to either become accustomed with the set norms or take the risk of
continuing to believe in their inner voice that subsequently makes them a target of
public scrutiny. The external conflict between man and society takes place when a
person believes in something about a matter while their community disagrees with
those beliefs. The conflicts between an individual and the society are reflected in
these three short stories, The Bridegroom, Saboteur by Ha Jin, and Before the law
by Kafka. The protagonists are directly or indirectly affected by the powerful and
authoritative nature of laws made by their societies. Inequality of an individual in
their society can evoke a passive or predatory behavior which can cause great harm
to the society and to an individual s mentality, and the intimidating behavior of the
society leaves a person with no control over their life. The parable Before the Law is
a remarkable piece of work; it entails the element of... Show more content on

Gcse Film Techniques
The 2001 Baz Luhrmann Moulin Rouge production is assembled like a bunch
frenzied snapshots of what a drug induced erotic encounter would look like, or what
we would imagine it would look like. The film does not depend on dialogue but on
the way you imagine a fantasy from one angle and then another with all of extreme
contrast between dark and light colors and the fast movement of the film. Luhrman
uses many different techniques to convey images to his viewers. Examples of these
are mise en scene, cinematography, and editing. All of these techniques are used to
draw you into the film; the uses of these together make a fantastic story about love.
Luhrman uses mise en scene to a great effect. A perfect example of this is in the first
scene where we are introduced into Christian s attic. We are shown Cristian being
surrounded by papers, bottles, clothes, dust and dirt, with his face down in his arms.
The lighting on him is a saturated blue light and the detail of the typewriter, his dirty

cinematography, and most of all editing. I can honestly say that if I had not taken
this film appreciation course, sadly I would not have made it through the first 10
minutes of pure madness. Had I not been able to better recognize the meaning or
reasoning behind the editing style and use of artwork I would have been
uninterested. Now, with all of that being said the movie over all is a fantastic piece
of artwork. From the beginning scenes with the perfect use of illuminated blue
lighting, to the use of cinematography to really bring us into the character s
perspective, to the creative use of hyper kinetic style editing to give the feeling of
freedom. It all comes together to really bring the audience a true feel of what the 1899

Concrete Angel Poem
Child abuse is still a very prevalent issue in American society; however, it is not
focused on in popular media. Many witness the signs of child abuse, but seem to
disregard it as an issue. The overall physical, mental, and emotional well being of the
victims is significantly impacted. Martina McBride s Concrete Angel portrays the
issue of child abusewith the characterization of a young girl who displays both the
more obvious physical signs of abuse in addition to the less observable impacts on
the child s mentality. Through the descriptions of the young girl and the paradox of a
concrete angel, the song attempts to evoke sympathy for victims of child abuse and
ultimately to condemn the bystanders who allow the abuse to continue.
The physical and mental signs of abuse described in the lyrics help to characterize
the girl in a sympathetic manner. It is clear the girl clearly depicts typical physical
signs of child abuse since she is Wearing the same dress she wore yesterday/She
hides the bruises with the linen and lace, (Bentley and Crosby, 2002, l 33). Victims
of abuse, generally, attempt to hide the physical evidence; however, specifically, the

Women In Greek Mythology
To begin, there is a strong difference in the way that men treated women in Greek
mythology to the way that men treat women today. The way that men treated
women in Greek Mythology was very poor and a woman s main job was to supply
her husband with a baby. An online source states, the top priority of these women
was to get pregnant and bear healthy babies for their husbands (Frederick John
Kluth, The role of women in ancient Greek art ). This quote shows how men
mainly used women for children and that is all. While women were pregnant in
Greek mythology, female servants were hired to do all of their cooking and
cleaning. Some of these servants even had to do sexual favors for the husband. This
shows that women were easily replaceable and... Show more content on

Zeus did not even think to ask Demeter for permission before promising their
daughter to Hades. This shows how little Demeter s opinion meant to Zeus. Zeus
knew that he could do whatever he wanted and get away with it since he is a Greek
God. This is also similar to what happened between Gaia and Ouranos. In this myth,
Ouranos puts Gaia s children in the underworld because he was afraid of them.
Ouranos did not ask Gaia for her permission and did not care how hurt Gaia would
be after losing her children. In Greek mythology, a woman s opinion meant very
little. Today, men treat women very differently. Women and men have equal rights
and women actually have more rights than men when it comes to children,
especially during a divorce. In an online article it states, In divorce court, women
are seen as generally favored over men on issues related to their children, provide
they are fit parents ( Mothers Rights What You Need to Know ). Not only are
women starting to have more rights with children, but also more women are working
more and more outside of their homes. Many women are getting jobs out of the house
and more men are starting to stay at home with the

trauma focused, psychotherapy. Research shows that there were also successful
outcomes using EMDR to treat an extensive range of psychiatric and mental health

focused directly on processing memories that were incorrectly stored in the patients
mind. Incomplete processing means that a traumatic event has been stored in
memory as it was originally experienced with the emotions, physical sensations, and
beliefs that the individual had during the experience (Shapiro, Laliotis, 191). Through

The Wife s Lament And The Seafarer Analysis
The
Similarities of The Wife s Lament and The Seafarer Life away from home can be
hard, but imagine what it would be like if it was to a harsh sea or under a giant tree.
In the two poems we will be dissecting, you will see how these two different
situations have a lot in common. In one of the oldest poems known in the world, The
Seafarer was written long by an unknown author.
Throughout the poem we see how the man takes his exile emotionally and physically,
all the while he sails the sea and world. He goes to other countries and shows how on
his missions he sees amazing things, but he expresses how sad he is. In the second
poem, The Wife s Lament, a woman is exiled to a cave by her husband, and she goes
through all her thoughts and emotions, and she decides to get out her anger and
heartbreak for her husband, she curses him while is out at sea. While we go through
both of these poems, we will find differences between exiles. In The Seafarer, it isn t
known whether the man was exiled, or if he willingly left his home.
Throughout the poem you can see the way that the man holds himself together,
and how he feels about the people on the land. This the man does not know for
whom on land it turns out most favourably, how i, wretched and sorrowful, on the
ice cold sea... In this line, we can see that the man is very angry about having to be
out at sea. While he is out at sea, he talks about his family back at home that later
help us connect The SeaFarer to The Wife s Lament. You can see how the mans
actions and words were very Pagen at the beginning of the poem, but slowly
transform into Christian values and words change by the end of the poem. This
leads many people to believe that the original poem have been translated by high
church member, because they were the only ones back then that were educated
enough to read and write. If it were translated by a high ranking church member, it
is possible that some of it might have been changed. As you move onto the second
poem, The Wife s Lament, we look at an exile, through a different person s eyes.
When the Wife is still on land, she is still exiled far away to a cave area under a
great tree. Although she was not on the seas, she still found
Roman City Planning
Roman City PlanningВ… The design and structure of a city is as important as the
people who dwell within her walls. The placement of streets and the structures built
there are carefully plotted for optimal use. Foot and cart traffic, fire hazard, and
access to water were all key factors in city planning. Eventually the Romans had fine
tuned their design principals in such an advantageous way that they molded all of
their citystates similarly. Rome developed from the combination of small farming
communities around a hilltop fortification. The city, which was founded before
regularized city planning, consisted of a confusing maze of crooked and gnarled

Civic Engagement through Community Problem Solving
Abstract
As young people s civic and political participation continues to decline, a number of
organizations are working to reverse the decline by increasing opportunities for youth
to participate. Communities around the country are taking steps to engage young
people through a variety of methods that allow youth to actually participate in policy
development and take action on local issues. The effectiveness of such community
programs on long term civic engagement is not well documented, however. This
paper presents preliminary research about the effectiveness of one community
participation program, the Southern Nevada Water Authority s Youth Advisory
Council. Quantitative and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) has undertaken a multi year research
project, gathering longitudinal data from its Youth Advisory Council participants, to
determine the long term impacts of the program on their civic and political behaviors
and attitudes. This paper reports on preliminary research that, while not conclusive,
suggests the program can be an effective tool in engaging young people. Given this
preliminary evidence, and because the broader community can benefit from a process
like the Youth Advisory Council, this paper also provides recommendations to assist
community organizations and agencies in successfully developing and sustaining a
similar youth participation program.
Background
Since the voting age was lowered to 18 in 1972, the numbers of 18 24 year olds
who vote in elections has steadily declined, as shown in the charts below. Young
people have always voted in smaller numbers than their parents and grandparents,
due to life cycle changes that provide motivation, ability, and time for participation
as citizens progress through life. Yet today s significantly lower participation rates
for young people are not entirely attributable to life cycle effects. Instead, they are
linked to generational effects, a change in society itself instead of individuals as their
lives progress. This is evident when participation rates of

wastes the time of courts and attorneys. From the point that the person is sentenced
to death row, the convicted may need to wait about 12 years until execution.
Furthermore, the actual execution has many complications as well. A hanging may
seem simple, but a miscalculation of the drop may lead to the person suffering a
slow suffocation or the head being torn off the body. Another method, electrocution,
is also not reliable. In one case, John Evans was electrocuted three times before he
died, with his flesh burning and flames consuming his leg. Some may argue that this
is the reason gas chambers were created. However, the chambers also cause slow and
painful death as shown by Don Harding s execution which took ten minutes. Today s

Two important cases that both have looked at the death penalty in various ways, may
show that capital punishment is not applicable today. In the case Atkins v. Virginia,
which took place in 2002, Daryl Renard Atkins was mentally retarded. Atkins was
sentenced to death, but he appealed to the Supreme Court. This case takes a look at
the question of whether executing a mentally retarded person is constitutional. The
court ruled 6 3 that it is not constitutional to kill a mentally retarded person because
the nation s standards are changing and many are against such sentences ( Atkins ).
It is clear that the death penalty is being applied less and less, which make it seem
that it is no longer applicable today. This opinion is also backed up by the later case,
Roper v. Simmons. The case was decided in 2004, but the events date back to 1993.
Christopher Simmons was sentenced to death in 1993, but he was only 17. The
lower courts ruled for Simmons, stating that the national opinion on killing a minor
has changed. However, not many believed the lower court had the power to overrule
the Supreme Court s previous decision on Stanford v. Kentucky. The case went up to
the Supreme Court where the court ruled in a 5 4 ruling for Simmons. The Court
stated that the standards have changed in the past years, making it so that executing
minors is no longer Constitutional ( Roper ). As shown by these cases, the national
consensus on the death penalty is changing, which is no longer as necessary as it

Arnie s role model, and the two now share a special bond. The brothers work
together at the local grocery store, are often found playing hide and seek, and have
a special tradition where they watch the campers drive through their small town of
Endora, Iowa every year. This year while watching the campers, a traveler named
Becky (Juliette Lewis) caught Gilbert s eye, and he has trouble keeping up with a
new love interest and Arnie s constant mischief. Throughout the film, Arnie s
diagnosis is never mentioned. The doctor said he would live until 10...but 10 came
and went, and the doctor said it could be anytime now (Matalon Hallström, 1993).
After observing his mannerisms, it is clear that as a child Arnie was diagnosed with
Autism Spectrum Disorder. Arnie has difficulties with ineffective impulse control,
verbal communication, proper hygiene, and positive coping skills. These are
evidenced by Arnie s constant climbing of the water tower, not realizing how
dangerous it is or how much distress it causes his mother and Gilbert. Arnie is seen
constantly repeating words or phrases those around him say, like Dad s dead! and
She s a whale! , and cannot fully express to others how he feels. Additionally, Arnie
is not able to bathe himself, so Gilbert is the one who bathes him every night before
bed. Later in the film, Arnie is seen running away after Gilbert hit him, and got very
agitated and upset when he dropped Becky s groceries on the ground, thinking he
ruined them.
Arnie further displays common signs and symptoms of Autism as evidenced by his
cognitive delay,
If I Had My Life To Live Over Tone
The poem if I had my life to live over, revolves around life and living. The poem is
being spoken directly to another person. An older individual offering an
adolescent advice about life readily comes to mind. I central idea in the poem is to
live life. The poet uses tone, imagery, and device to show the central idea. In the
poem, the poet uses tone to make the main idea more clear to the reader. When the
poet writes, they do it in the regretful way, that is shown by the choice of words
used in the poem. The speaker in the poem is talking to right person much younger
than them, perhaps a grandchild. They are telling the young person that, if they
had to live their life over again, they would do it differently. It s clear that the
speaker regrets things that they did and didn t do. In the second line it says, I dare
to make more mistakes next time. By saying next time, the speaker is stating that if
there was a next time, a second chance, they would lighten up and take more risks
even if it was a mistake. Also many times throughout the poem the word would is
used. When it says, I would be sillier than I have been this trip they are saying all of
the things that they wished they did when they had the chance. This regretful tone,
helps to make the central idea clear because the regret that the person... Show more

Imagery, is used frequently in the poem. This is to help the reader develop a better
understanding of the poem through visualization. In the last line it says, I would
pick more daisies , this is not a literal action that the speaker would do if they had
their life to live over. They are saying that they would stop and take time to enjoy the
little things in life. This could include picking daisies, or having a nice talk with
someone. This image puts a small act of picking flowers in your head, although this is
an unimportant action to your life, there is deep meaning behind
Effective Understanding of Cultural Differences Will Be...
Effective understanding of cultural differences will be key to successful business
operations in the 21st century. Discuss this statement using examples from two
sectors. Abstract Purpose The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate why it is
essential to understand cultural differences to achieve success in the 21st century.
The paper focuses on the adaptations that different industries are incorporating into
their business practices to meet the needs of the global consumer. In particular, the
paper attempts to address the adaptations that industries are undergoing to cater to
ethical and migration related requirements of the consumers. Design and Approach

Both these factors affect buying practises of the customer. In Britain we have a
very strong restaurant and hospitality business. We also have a significant chunk of
the population that eat out regularly. This coupled with the increased wave of new
immigrants has brought about a transformation in food habits. Though people
migrate to different parts of the world, at times quite far away from their
homeland, their culinary habits take generations to change and in that time there
still is a strong demand for goods from their homeland, especially food items, this
can be cited from the number of Eastern European shops that have mushroomed all
over UK in the last 4 years and from Indian and Pakistani settlements in the UK
during the 70s. This is a clear example of cultural attributes acquired as a result of
being a part of a group influence and how it influences an industry. The internet and
media provide a wealth of information about current practises. This coupled with
interactions with other communities has not only given people a global perspective
but also equips them with knowledge of international happenings. People are thus
becoming more and more conscious of the practices companies employ and how it
is impacting the whole world. Thus information about a local firm exploiting
overseas suppliers or the impact a particular industry s impact on a global scale has
serious impact on the company s brand and image. Thus Corporate
Freddie Mercury s Bohemian Rhapsody
Rock and roll holds a lot of dirty secrets, fortunately for Queen s lead singer Freddie
Mercury has a more colorful mystery. Queens album A Night at The Opera released
a single in 1975 called Bohemian Rhapsody , which sent listeners in a whirlwind of
up beat rhythms. Behind the elegant vibratos and shredding guitar solos, Bohemian
Rhapsodyis Mercury peeling away his rock star persona by confessing his
homosexuality through religious allusions and creative metaphors.
Like any confession Mercury starts off by apologizing to his mother,
metaphorically stating he is done with playing as a straight male claiming that life
style is behind him. Second stanza he bellows Mama, just killed a man Put a gun
against his head Pulled my trigger, now he s dead... (Bohemian), Jim Hutton
explains to Lesley Ann Jones, author of biography Mercury that He,s dead, the
straight person he was originally, he s destroyed the man he was trying to be, and
now this is him, trying to live with the new Freddie (Jones). Next, he says Mama my
life had just begun But now ive gone and thrown it all away... (Bohemian). Here he is

Singing this part his pitch becomes more aggressive, the audience can hear more
throat when he says So you think you can stop me and spit in my eye, So you think
you can love me and leave me to die (Bohemian). This is where Freddie Mercury s
new persona emerges, he realizes in spite of his homosexual lifestyle he refuses to
let anyone stop what he feels is right. Then he criticizes his god for leaving one of
his followers with his reaction being Oh baby can t do this to me baby (Bohemian).
After expressing his feelings towards what his god thinks about him he says Just
gotta get out just gotta get right outta here (Bohemian) , meaning he refuses to be
apart of a religion who persecutes
Similarities Between Jeddrich And Gatsby
Jedediah Leland is referred to as Charles Kane s closest friend, I believe the same
can be said of Nick s relationship to Gatsby. Perhaps, in the latter s instance, not so
much a friend but rather an exceptionally close acquaintance. Nick and Leland
share a few similarities, their close connection to Gatsby and Kane respectively as
well as their clear admiration and endearment towards them. They both hold high
standards for these men and are disappointed when they realize that they are
capable of human error. Jedediah and Nick are similar however, they are more
different than alike. Leland is disillusioned with Kane and eventually gives up on
him. Clearly when he sent Kane the Declaration of Principles it was as a symbol of
Jedediah breaking up with him, their friendship, their partnership, their trust. Nick,
however, seems to waver at times, but ultimately only go up on the gay for Gatsby
spectrum. When Gatsby finally admits the truth about Oxford, how he hasn t
technically lied, he s just extended the truth a bit, Nick isn t faced as he can say is
he wanted to congratulate him and how he experienced a renewal of complete
faith in him which he had experienced before (Page 129). Both Leland and Nick
have significant roles in the lives of Kane and Gatsby respectively, however they
are very different from one another, perhaps this is because Kane and Gatsby too are
very distinct characters. Leland starts off as Kane s closest friend, they had many
memories and
How To Graduate High School
When I was in high school I didn t feel like doing any work because I used to see it
as a waste of time so in high school freshmen year I had almost all f s on my report
card. My teachers told me that I wasn t going to be anything in life and my family
would joke around and tell me I would work for minimum wage. So I told everyone
that I was going to change my life around and graduate high schoolbut the way I was
going they didn t believe that I could ever change. No one really believed me and
they thought I was just trying to make myself feel better.
I ignored everyone who thought that I couldn t do it and started taking school serious
in my sophomore year. I would start showing up early to all of my classes which
never happened before. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I went to talk to my counselor s, and asked them what I needed to graduate high
school. They gave me the requirements to graduate but I was behind in a lot of
senior classes. I asked them if they had any online courses where I could take a class
faster and catch up with the seniors. they let me stay after school and use the
computer at the library to take the online courses.
After a couple of months of online courses and hard work. I was all caught up with
the seniors. The end of the school year was close and it was the moment I was
waiting for. When I was walking that stage all my teachers, friends, and even some
of my family was surprised. My family knew that I was graduating one day ahead
only because I gave them the tickets to show up.
This experience changed my whole life around. Before I went through this
accomplishment in my life. I was lazy, angry, and I didn t really have any goals in
life I didn t have anything to look forward to. I was an angry person because I
always blamed other people for my mistakes, and I thought everyone was against me
because they don t want to see me succeed. I realized that at the end of day no one
actually cares about your life more than yourself. I became motivated and interested
in my education. Now I have attainable goals that I want to accomplish and have a

Background of Roscoe and the NDT Industry
Found in 1973 in Western Louisiana, Roscoe Nondestructive Testing Inc., is a
company specialized in provision of testing service for large boilers of pulp and
paper mills industry. Its services include monitoring corrosion of boiler walls by
nondestructive testing (NDT) methods (such as ultrasonics) and provide its
customers reports for the condition of boilers. With the testing information provided

With the further enhancement on customer service level, Porter believed that he
could be able to turn around business of Roscoe in 1 2 years time.
The Quality Improvement Program
Having identified the areas of improvement, Porter started a Quality Improvement
Program (QIP) to enhance the customer service level of its service team. The training
included provision of training on customer contact skills to technicians, redefining of
service guidelines, development of customer satisfaction surveying system and a
bonus system for awarding outstanding performed technicians evaluated by
customers.
The QIP program was generally able to improve overall service level and customer
satisfaction towards the inspection team. In a customer satisfaction survey
conducted in November 1991 (6 months after the first survey and QIP), it showed
that customers perception on Roscoe s technicians, particular in the area of level of
courtesy, organization of work and willingness to make extra effort, were all
improved. Yet, it was observed in the second customer satisfaction survey that
customers evaluations of the overall performance of Roscoe were only slightly
improved. There was still more than 40% of customers believed that Roscoe s
service was not value for their money.
Approaching the year end of 1991, Porter predicted that

Tired Of Cleaning Clogged Gutters? Install Gutter Guards And Keep Leaves Out
If scraping decaying leaves out of your gutters is a job you hate, you should think
about installing gutter guards. The guards keep leaves out of the troughs while
allowing rain to seep in, so your gutters work as intended. While they don t make
your gutters completely maintenance free, they do cut down on a lot of time and
labor spent cleaning your gutters. Here are a few things to know. Different Types
Of Gutter Guards You can buy different types of gutter guards. Some are screens of
mesh or nylon that sit on top of the troughs. Others are curved like a dome, so
leaves slide off. Some guards fit inside the gutters. They are like sponges or bristle
brushes that allow water in, but keep leaves out. When choosing the type of guards
to put on your gutters, consider how they will affect the appearance of your house.
The most visible are the curved domes that sit on top of the troughs.... Show more

If you have screens or bristle guards, you may be able to clean them by flushing
them with water while they are still in place. You ll have to remove domed guards
so you can see inside the troughs. The guards should snap on and off in large
sections so you can remove them and hose them off in your yard. With no piles of
leaves clogging the troughs, small seeds and twigs should flush on through with
running water. Even though your gutters and the guards may not be clogged or
have much debris in them, it is still important to clean them occasionally. It is
always a good idea to inspect your gutters annually, and clean them if needed, to
make sure they are working properly. If a limb falls on the gutters or a raccoon
messes around on your roof, one of the guards could become dislodged and allow
leaves in without you knowing it unless you inspect your gutter system

Literary Analysis
Living to Die and Dying to Live: A Perversion of the Legend of Lazarus The legend
of Lazarus (also known as Saint Lazarus or Lazarus of Bethany) is well known. In
the original story, Jesus of Nazareth raises him from the dead after four days as an
example of the almighty power of God. In fact, this tale is so prominent that it is the
namesake of a medical anomaly, songs, and, most relevantly, Lady Lazarus by Sylvia
Plath. Most incarnations of the story of Lazarus maintain a sensational and awe
inspiring nature; however, it would be unlike Plath to construct a piece with the same
upbeat and simplistic tone as the Biblical myth. Instead, Plath chooses to construct ...

Plath, in the second and third stanzas, describes her right foot as a paperweight and
her face as a Jewish linen (lines 6 9). Her right foot specifically being a
paperweight holds some Biblical significance. The right direction, on Judgement
Day, is associated with salvation while the left is associated with atonement. The
connotation of a paperweight is something heavy that holds down what would
otherwise fly away. When these two symbols are combined, readers can conclude
that Plath s hope for salvation is the only thing tethering her to a world she would
otherwise leave on a permanent basis. Additionally, Plath s comparison of her face
to Jewish linen is, as mentioned previously, a way she equates her suffering to that
of a Holocaust victim; however, Jewish linen was also used to wrap the namesake
of the poem, Lazarus. In the fourth stanza, Plath calls for onlookers to remove the
cloth from her face (line 10). The removal is a parallel between Plath and the
original Lazarus with a twist. In her incarnation of the unveiling, Plath s face is not
as it once was. It still remains decomposed in order to show that she truly perished
and remains affected by it. The allusion to Lazarus furthers in the sixth stanza when
Plath references the grave cave (line 17). This clearly refers to the tomb of Lazarus, a
cave in which Jesus had risen him from the dead. Shortly thereafter, Plath talks about
how she has nine
Marfan s Syndrome Essay
Marfan s syndrome is a rare hereditary disorder of the body s connective tissue. The
phenotypic traits include being tall, abnormally long stretched limbs and in the
most severe cases the aorta can be prone to rupture and retinal detachment can
occur [1]. Seventy five percent of cases for this multisystem disorder are genetic
and inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion (a child can inherit it from just one
parent): 25% are sporadic where neither parent has the syndrome [2]. Its prevalence
is 1/5000 and of these affected individuals each has a 50% chance of passing on the
mutated gene to their offspring [3]. Marfan s syndrome is caused by mutations in
the fibrillin 1 gene (FBN1) located on chromosome 15q21.1 [4]. Fibrillin is a large

Two thirds (approximately 66%) of Marfan s syndrome sufferers experience
problems in the cardiovascular system and have mitral valve prolapse; where blood
may flow back from the ventricles into the atrium in a process called mitral valve
regurgitation. This may require valve repair or valve replacement. If cardiac
arrhythmias occurs where the heartbeat becomes irregular there is the risk of sudden
death [2]. Thoracic aortic aneurysm is also prevalent in Marfan s syndrome sufferers.
This is a condition caused by the widening of the aorta due to weakness in the walls
of the vessel. Aneurysm can lead to rupture itself or to aortic dissection where the
aorta wall tears thus allowing blood to flow between the layers of the blood vessel
walls. It can result in rupture or in a decrease in blood flow to the organs. This
situation is very dangerous and is most likely to require heart surgery or aortic
replacement

Gospel Music As A Genre Of Christian Music
Ever think about what the real definition of Gospel music is? Gospel music is a
genre of Christian music. Gospel is the term used for the first four books of the
New Testament, describing the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. The word
gospel means good news which is derived from the Greek word Оµ
бЅђО±ОіОіОО»О№ОїОЅ. Gospel musicserves many purposes such as aesthetic
pleasures and religious purposes and as an entertainment product for the market.
Gospel music consists of a strong harmony and Christian lyrics.
Gospel music became known around the 17t h century and rooted in the black
tradition. Hand clapping and foot stomping are often associated when gospel
music is playing. Most of the singing during that time was a cappella in other
words with no music. The first use of the term Gospel Song was in 1874. Some of
the original gospel songs were written and composed by autho rs such as George
Root, William Howard Doane and Fanny Crosby.
In the slavery era many slave owners did not allow slaves to use traditional african
instruments , sing or play their native music. As a result many of the words and
melodies were forgotten and vanished in North America. A new style of music
emerged from this limitation. The church allowed many slaves to express their
feelings through gospel songs. Many slaves were not allowed to attend but met
secretly anyway.
The best part about gospel music tradition was the use of a choir. The church choir
members consisted of volunteer singers from the
Woman Hollering Creek Myth Analysis
Throughout history, myth has taught lessons, explained phenomena, and perpetuated
common knowledge and thought. Myth is threaded into history all over the world,
and along the border of the United States and Mexico is no different. In Woman
Hollering Creek, Sandra Cisneros reinscribes myths that have perpetuated the
patriarchy, breaking down stereotypes and the narratives that we have come to
associate with them. This essay will explore the roles of La Llorona and La
Malinche in Woman Hollering Creek and Never Marry A Mexican. These myths are
inscribed within Mexican American women and Cisneros combats these archetypes
by retelling them. The reinscription of these myths by Sandra Cisneros gives up
hope that there is more than just the fate of the mourning mother, the colonized
victim, and the virgin. The first myth is that of La Llorona. La Llorona is one of the
most prevalent myths in Latinx culture. Although there are several retellings of the
myth, it is said that after finding out about her husband s infidelity La Llorona
drowned their children and spends her days stuck in between the spirit world and
this world, grieving their loss and searching for children to replace her own. This
myth is often told by Mexican parents to keep their children from wandering out at
night, but this story reinforces the notion of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

La Malinche is a legend rooted in history. With its beginnings dated back to the

She is oftentimes blamed for the fall of the indigenous world in Mexico, because she

Essay on The War of the Triple Alliance
The War of the Triple Alliance is regarded as the bloodiest war in the history of Latin
America, taking place from 1864 to 1870. In a seemingly uneven match up, the
country of Paraguay took on an alliance of three countries: Brazil, Uruguay, and
Argentina. Paraguay started this conflict under the rule of Francisco Solano LГіpez,
the country s dictator. What would make Fransisco Solano LГіpez, dictator of
Paraguay, exponentially increase his militaryforces and attack an alliance of three
countries, two of which are much larger than Paraguay? I will use operational code
to study the dictator who started the war and examine reasons as to why he made
such the rash and risky decision that he did. After examining Francisco Solano LГіpez

LГіpez was influenced tremendously by his father growing up. Being the first born
son, LГіpez was trained from the very beginning by his father to be a powerful,
military minded leader. (Saeger, 38).While he was growing up and learning about
the ways of politics, he never answered to anyone but his father, who doted on him
constantly. He lacked a true sense of authority from his father; something that is
essential for development of his interpersonal skills. He never grasped the concept
of empathy. He lacked respect for other people and whatever assumed authority
that they carried with them, and that translated to his adult life, when he
encountered other leaders in similar positions. (Saeger, 39). He was intelligent,
hard working, and he ruled with an iron fist, even as a child and young adult.
Personality characteristics of childhood will translate to adult life, which explains
his need to be satisfied on all accounts, no matter what the cost to others. In
addition to taking after his father s example of a man in military power, he also
took a strong liking and had a deep admiration for Napoleon Bonaparte and the
empire that he created. He modeled the army s uniforms after Napoleon s army, and
even had a crown that was a replica of Napoleon s. He wanted to make Paraguay the
most dominant force in Eastern South America, and he modeled his

Everything seemed to be looking bright with a new Spanish ruler in Cuba. Even many of the officers were entertained by the Spanish and thoughts of going home were in the air. The small battleship was second class to that of its counterparts in the Pacific. It was the biggest battleship to enter the Havana harbor. As soon as the calmnight appeared, roaring explosions and blinding flashes filled the air. Could the battleship Maine be under attack while on such great terms? Soon after the explosion and before the investigations, the newspapers already wrote about Spain attacking and for the people to be ready for the war. This wasn t the first time the newspaper started such pandemonium. It all started with Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst starting a form of writing called yellow journalism. These two people brought media into a war and may have even started the Spanish American War of 1898. To get an idea of what truly happened, the background of this war must be stated. At this time Cuba was trying to gain independence form Spain. Spain was trying to so anything in their power to control this. So the decided to hire General Valeriano Weyler to do all of their dirty work for them. He had a past that was very violent when it came to wars. He decided to establish a system called the reconcentrado. This was a system where they decided to take all the Cubans that lived in the country side and put them in camps where they did not have a possibility to join the revolution. With all of these things happening in Cuba, President Cleveland and President McKinley wanted to stay neutral. Also during this time, the United States was still thinking about the idea of Manifest Destiny and American Imperialism. Since land has already been claimed by the United States from coast to coast, they have to search elsewhere for expanding the country.

Georgia Tech has its perks, but there are such better options, such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or commonly known as MIT. According to the name, MIT is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The schoolis considered one of the hardest schools in the US to get into, have an acceptance rate of 7.9%, and the average GPA is around 4.13, but it is highly worth your while. A lot of famous people have gone to MIT. An example of a successful leader who went to MIT was James Doolittle, the leader of the Doolittle Raid (http://archive.boston.com/lifestyle). The Doolittle raid was one of the most famous raids in the history of WW2, mental scarring the Japanese, while not doing that much damage to the actual landscape. Very soon and lord willing I ll make it to 95. Time passes faster nowadays. Anyway, I have learned in my old age that this is the good part of the day. I leave the T.V off and its very quiet. Even though my hearing isn t what it used to be I believe that i could hear the pin drop. Time to just sit and think. this morning I m thinking about politics and religion. Boy, oh boy, what a mess! using all my common sense I can t decide which group hast the most Crooks . I mean Money grabbers, Liars, Charlatans and people that are so two faced . I ve had more experience in this area. So if I have the privilege to write more articles, I ll deal with what the good book really says. I would like to start with a few statements so that you wont think that I just escaped from the funny farm. I know we have had some fine preachers in our community, men who have lived their lives really trying to serve and help the people. These good and honest men would never knowingly teach anything wrong that would cause you to be lost. Next I know there are good people in every church in our community, not just good but really good, the best kind of neighbors who are always ready to help when needed. However in teaching we must be specific or we don t apply the lesson to ourselves. One example is Matthew 7:21 23. Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord , will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord we did not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out the demons and in your name preform many miracles? And then I tell them plainly I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God s
  • 5. Black Like Me The Fire Next Time Paper Once, race and religion were two traditional structural components of society from the past, but today the two act as social dividers. The disconnection of people of varying beliefs and races as well as the misunderstanding of each other in societies are issues well interpreted in the novels, Black Like Me, by John Howard Griffin and The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin. Both authors would agree that something must be done to bridge the gap in racially segregated society. From a personal perspective, as long as there are people who think they are socially and spiritually different from others, there will always be misunderstanding between people. Griffin feels it is necessary to understand the hardship of blacks in the United Statesof... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first essay is about James Baldwin s personal perspective of being black in racist America. The second essay goes on to how religion and Christianity allowed the segregation and oppression of blacks to grow between both whites and blacks of the United States (Baldwin, 1963). Christianity in the United States can be easily be compared to the opiate of the masses. Religion controlled the lives of the whites and forced the blacks to live under the oppressive rule of the whites. It is suggested by the author that for America to become as effective as it can, the people must give up on religion. The author believes that religion and Christian beliefs set up limitations for the potential growth of the nation (Baldwin, 1963). Baldwin also explains that Americans are forced to believe what they are taught and say or do nothing against it American society s indoctrinating culture. Whites and Blacks have been blinded to their own individual and societal truths, the truth being that they are all equal. Growing up, I felt as if I had two identities, one as a Christian amongst many non Christian Indians and the other as an Indian among many white people. Fitting into either group was hard because of my racial and religious limitations. Much like John Howard Griffin from Black Like Me, I was able to switch from one racial group to another, somewhat understanding yet not completely grasping both perspectives. In most of my

When looking at the inside the atmosphere looks appealing for customers. The business is also open every day from 6am to 2am with a bus stop close to the business so it is easier to get too when not having a vehicle. Notice that the restaurant is located next to the college. Most of the employees enjoy working there and with their managers. However there is one employee that felt like she was not going to get anywhere by working so she is going to put her two weeks in so she can go work for one of the competitors. One employee suggests that they need to have better cash registers so they do not have to go through the paper receipts to make sure everything is accounted for at the ending of a shift. With the one person that keeps getting the warnings I suggest of letting him go so there is no more problems between him and the customers or employees. When the one employee suggested that the new owner to get new cash registers I feel that it might be a good idea so it is much easier to keep track of what is being sold. Also to keep better track of the mistakes that might happen during the shifts. Also with having better cash registers the restaurant could always start accepting

  • 14. Motivation of Money in Oak Island Money Pit by Lee Lamb Many people in the world are motivated by money. Whether in the form of treasure or cash, people will come looking for it. The mystery of a money pit off the shores of Nova Scotia, Canada has attracted treasure hunters for hundreds of years. Scientists have been trying to discover not only what lies at the bottom, but also how the treasuregot to Oak Island. Although there is much disagreement about who left the treasure behind on Oak Island, the most logical explanation is that the British created the money pit in the mid 16th century for safe keeping of their newly acclaimed treasure. Oak Island is an uninhabited 140 acre island located just off the shores of Nova Scotia, Canada. It is part of a chain of approximately 360 islands in Mahone Bay (Scott). Despite such a small area, this island is home to the historically famous Oak Island Money Pit. This mystery has brought thousands of people to the island in hopes of finding buried treasure. Most people are unsuccessful while looking for the treasure, and leave the island with same superstitions they came with. The chapter in history regarding Oak Island Money Pit occurred when it was first discovered in the summer of 1795. In fact, the title of the poem alone provides all of the exposition needed to understand that this piece is set up as a mother s advice to her son. Presumably, this poem represents the advice that Langston Hughes may have received from his own mother. The imagery of a staircase opens up the work, which begins, Well, son, I ll tell you: / Life for me ain t been no crystal stair (Hughes 1 2). Clearly, this woman s life has been difficult. More than that, by using imagery of tacks, splinters, and torn up boards, the mother is telling her son that at times her life has been outright dangerous. It is no mistake that Hughes chooses to use images of objects that can easily do physical harm. Lines three through seven confirm that the mother s life journey has been more than hard; indeed, it has been perilous. However, as the poem continues, mother tells son that she has always managed to advance in spite of the obstacles on her particular staircase. But all the time / I se been a climbin on, / And reachin landin s, / And turnin corners, / And sometimes goin in the dark / Where there ain t been no light (Hughes 8 13). During these lines, the tone of the poem slowly turns from hopeless to hopeful. True, the mother s life has been dangerous a fraught with obstacles, and yet she has thus far overcome each one of her challenges. The phrases, reachin landin s and turnin corners instill a sense of success in the mind of the reader, as both are common colloquial sayings that reflect a reprieve from hardship or a change for the better. Even through the darkness, still the mother climbs on. In other words, though she is at times unsure of her current position, she never loses sight of her

A quite common response to these sort of holdups would be to react with anger, often asking something along the lines of: Why did this happen to me, of all people? While frustration seems to be a very popular response towards these ordeals, David Foster Wallace believes that such a perspective is self centered and a result of people using their natural default setting. Wallace argues that choosing to view these situations with more empathy is a much healthier approach, rather than allowing small issues to remain constantly frustrating. • 31. Women In Greek Mythology To begin, there is a strong difference in the way that men treated women in Greek mythology to the way that men treat women today. The way that men treated women in Greek Mythology was very poor and a woman s main job was to supply her husband with a baby. An online source states, the top priority of these women was to get pregnant and bear healthy babies for their husbands (Frederick John Kluth, The role of women in ancient Greek art ). This quote shows how men mainly used women for children and that is all. While women were pregnant in Greek mythology, female servants were hired to do all of their cooking and cleaning. Some of these servants even had to do sexual favors for the husband. This shows that women were easily replaceable and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zeus did not even think to ask Demeter for permission before promising their daughter to Hades. This shows how little Demeter s opinion meant to Zeus. Zeus knew that he could do whatever he wanted and get away with it since he is a Greek God. This is also similar to what happened between Gaia and Ouranos. In this myth, Ouranos puts Gaia s children in the underworld because he was afraid of them. Ouranos did not ask Gaia for her permission and did not care how hurt Gaia would be after losing her children. In Greek mythology, a woman s opinion meant very little. Today, men treat women very differently. Women and men have equal rights and women actually have more rights than men when it comes to children, especially during a divorce. In an online article it states, In divorce court, women are seen as generally favored over men on issues related to their children, provide they are fit parents ( Mothers Rights What You Need to Know ). • 34. The Wife s Lament And The Seafarer Analysis The Similarities of The Wife s Lament and The Seafarer Life away from home can be hard, but imagine what it would be like if it was to a harsh sea or under a giant tree. In the two poems we will be dissecting, you will see how these two different situations have a lot in common. In one of the oldest poems known in the world, The Seafarer was written long by an unknown author. Throughout the poem we see how the man takes his exile emotionally and physically, all the while he sails the sea and world. He goes to other countries and shows how on his missions he sees amazing things, but he expresses how sad he is. In the second poem, The Wife s Lament, a woman is exiled to a cave by her husband, and she goes through all her thoughts and emotions, and she decides to get out her anger and heartbreak for her husband, she curses him while is out at sea. While we go through both of these poems, we will find differences between exiles. In The Seafarer, it isn t known whether the man was exiled, or if he willingly left his home. Throughout the poem you can see the way that the man holds himself together, and how he feels about the people on the land. This the man does not know for whom on land it turns out most favourably, how i, wretched and sorrowful, on the ice cold sea... In this line, we can see that the man is very angry about having to be out at sea. While he is out at sea, he talks about his family back at home that later help us connect The SeaFarer to The Wife s Lament. You can see how the mans actions and words were very Pagen at the beginning of the poem, but slowly transform into Christian values and words change by the end of the poem. This leads many people to believe that the original poem have been translated by high church member, because they were the only ones back then that were educated enough to read and write. If it were translated by a high ranking church member, it is possible that some of it might have been changed. As you move onto the second poem, The Wife s Lament, we look at an exile, through a different person s eyes. When the Wife is still on land, she is still exiled far away to a cave area under a great tree. Although she was not on the seas, she still found

The placement of streets and the structures built there are carefully plotted for optimal use. Foot and cart traffic, fire hazard, and access to water were all key factors in city planning. Eventually the Romans had fine tuned their design principals in such an advantageous way that they molded all of their citystates similarly. The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) has undertaken a multi year research project, gathering longitudinal data from its Youth Advisory Council participants, to determine the long term impacts of the program on their civic and political behaviors and attitudes. This paper reports on preliminary research that, while not conclusive, suggests the program can be an effective tool in engaging young people. Given this preliminary evidence, and because the broader community can benefit from a process like the Youth Advisory Council, this paper also provides recommendations to assist community organizations and agencies in successfully developing and sustaining a similar youth participation program. Background Since the voting age was lowered to 18 in 1972, the numbers of 18 24 year olds who vote in elections has steadily declined, as shown in the charts below. Young people have always voted in smaller numbers than their parents and grandparents, due to life cycle changes that provide motivation, ability, and time for participation as citizens progress through life. Yet today s significantly lower participation rates for young people are not entirely attributable to life cycle effects. Instead, they are linked to generational effects, a change in society itself instead of individuals as their lives progress. This is evident when participation rates of

Furthermore, the actual execution has many complications as well. A hanging may seem simple, but a miscalculation of the drop may lead to the person suffering a slow suffocation or the head being torn off the body. Another method, electrocution, is also not reliable. In one case, John Evans was electrocuted three times before he died, with his flesh burning and flames consuming his leg. In the case Atkins v. Virginia, which took place in 2002, Daryl Renard Atkins was mentally retarded. Atkins was sentenced to death, but he appealed to the Supreme Court. This case takes a look at the question of whether executing a mentally retarded person is constitutional. The court ruled 6 3 that it is not constitutional to kill a mentally retarded person because the nation s standards are changing and many are against such sentences ( Atkins ). It is clear that the death penalty is being applied less and less, which make it seem that it is no longer applicable today. This opinion is also backed up by the later case, Roper v. Simmons. The case was decided in 2004, but the events date back to 1993. Christopher Simmons was sentenced to death in 1993, but he was only 17. The lower courts ruled for Simmons, stating that the national opinion on killing a minor has changed. However, not many believed the lower court had the power to overrule the Supreme Court s previous decision on Stanford v. Kentucky. The case went up to the Supreme Court where the court ruled in a 5 4 ruling for Simmons. The Court stated that the standards have changed in the past years, making it so that executing minors is no longer Constitutional ( Roper ). As shown by these cases, the national consensus on the death penalty is changing, which is no longer as necessary as it once may have

What s Eating Gilbert Grape Analysis What s Eating Gilbert Grape: Film Review Nicole Roseman Maryville University Introduction and Summary What s Eating Gilbert Grape, a motion picture released in 1993 and directed by Lasse Hallström, follows the life of Gilbert Grape (Johnny Depp) and his younger brother Arnie (Leonardo DiCaprio), a mentally disabled 17 year old. Their mother, Bonnie (Darlene Cates), is morbidly obese and has been home bound for the past seven years following the suicide of her husband. After their father died, Gilbert became the main caregiver and provider for Arnie, their two sisters Amy and Ellen, and their mother. As they grew up, Gilbert quickly became Arnie s role model, and the two now share a special bond. The brothers work together at the local grocery store, are often found playing hide and seek, and have a special tradition where they watch the campers drive through their small town of Endora, Iowa every year. This year while watching the campers, a traveler named Becky (Juliette Lewis) caught Gilbert s eye, and he has trouble keeping up with a new love interest and Arnie s constant mischief. Throughout the film, Arnie s diagnosis is never mentioned. The doctor said he would live until 10...but 10 came and went, and the doctor said it could be anytime now (Matalon Hallström, 1993). After observing his mannerisms, it is clear that as a child Arnie was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Arnie has difficulties with ineffective impulse control, verbal communication, proper hygiene, and positive coping skills. These are evidenced by Arnie s constant climbing of the water tower, not realizing how dangerous it is or how much distress it causes his mother and Gilbert. Arnie is seen constantly repeating words or phrases those around him say, like Dad s dead! and She s a whale! , and cannot fully express to others how he feels. Additionally, Arnie is not able to bathe himself, so Gilbert is the one who bathes him every night before bed. Later in the film, Arnie is seen running away after Gilbert hit him, and got very agitated and upset when he dropped Becky s groceries on the ground, thinking he ruined them. Arnie further displays common signs and symptoms of Autism as evidenced by his cognitive delay,

Though people migrate to different parts of the world, at times quite far away from their homeland, their culinary habits take generations to change and in that time there still is a strong demand for goods from their homeland, especially food items, this can be cited from the number of Eastern European shops that have mushroomed all over UK in the last 4 years and from Indian and Pakistani settlements in the UK during the 70s. In fact, this tale is so prominent that it is the namesake of a medical anomaly, songs, and, most relevantly, Lady Lazarus by Sylvia Plath. Plath, in the second and third stanzas, describes her right foot as a paperweight and her face as a Jewish linen (lines 6 9). Her right foot specifically being a paperweight holds some Biblical significance. The right direction, on Judgement Day, is associated with salvation while the left is associated with atonement. The connotation of a paperweight is something heavy that holds down what would otherwise fly away. When these two symbols are combined, readers can conclude that Plath s hope for salvation is the only thing tethering her to a world she would otherwise leave on a permanent basis. Additionally, Plath s comparison of her face to Jewish linen is, as mentioned previously, a way she equates her suffering to that of a Holocaust victim; however, Jewish linen was also used to wrap the namesake of the poem, Lazarus. In the fourth stanza, Plath calls for onlookers to remove the cloth from her face (line 10). The removal is a parallel between Plath and the original Lazarus with a twist. In her incarnation of the unveiling, Plath s face is not as it once was. It still remains decomposed in order to show that she truly perished and remains affected by it. The allusion to Lazarus furthers in the sixth stanza when Plath references the grave cave (line 17). This clearly refers to the tomb of Lazarus, a cave in which Jesus had risen him from the dead. Shortly thereafter, Plath talks about how she has nine

This may require valve repair or valve replacement. If cardiac arrhythmias occurs where the heartbeat becomes irregular there is the risk of sudden death [2]. Thoracic aortic aneurysm is also prevalent in Marfan s syndrome sufferers. This is a condition caused by the widening of the aorta due to weakness in the walls of the vessel. Aneurysm can lead to rupture itself or to aortic dissection where the aorta wall tears thus allowing blood to flow between the layers of the blood vessel walls. It can result in rupture or in a decrease in blood flow to the organs. This situation is very dangerous and is most likely to require heart surgery or aortic replacement

Introduction Content Based Information Retrieval (CBIR) is the field that constitutes representation of images, organizing and searching of images based on their content rather than annotations of image. CBIR, also known as query by image content and content based visual information retrieval (CBVIR) is the application of computer vision techniques to the image retrieval problem, that is, the matter of checking out digital pictures in massive databases. Content based implies that the search analyzes the contents of the image based not on keywords, descriptions related to image, tags or annotations but based on features extracted directly from the image data. The term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Images with higher similarity than threshold are returned as an output. System which uses the content of the object for Information Retrieval is the CBIR. There are many applications of Content Based Information Retrieval. Image retrieval is one of the applications of CBIR. Few applications of CBIR are art collections, architectural and engineering design, crime prevention, Defense, Face detection etc. Mostly CBIR is applied on the Multimedia data. CBIR faces some problems. The trouble with the technique is the issue of high dimensionality. With the increase in the dimensionality CBIR becomes time consuming system and highly computation bound. Also with variety of applications of CBIR, there is need to preserve the privacy of user interest. A. Need of the Privacy Preservation in CBIR Privacy can be outlined as The quality of being secluded from the presence or view of others . In CBIR user provides some Multimedia object (e.g. an image of trademark to check whether the same trademark is already exist or not) as query and system provides required results. During this process system must realize the similarity between user query and objects in the database. At this time system gets the user query and query reveals the content and interest of the user and here is the privacy leak in the system. Here the original trademark can be compromised or can be copied. Generally CBIR is multi party system, in which there are minimum 2 parties, User and
  • 50. Gospel Music As A Genre Of Christian Music Ever think about what the real definition of Gospel music is? Gospel music is a genre of Christian music. Gospel is the term used for the first four books of the New Testament, describing the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. The word gospel means good news which is derived from the Greek word Оµ бЅђО±ОіОіОО»О№ОїОЅ. Gospel musicserves many purposes such as aesthetic pleasures and religious purposes and as an entertainment product for the market. Gospel music consists of a strong harmony and Christian lyrics. Gospel music became known around the 17t h century and rooted in the black tradition. Hand clapping and foot stomping are often associated when gospel music is playing. Most of the singing during that time was a cappella in other words with no music. The first use of the term Gospel Song was in 1874. Some of the original gospel songs were written and composed by autho rs such as George Root, William Howard Doane and Fanny Crosby. In the slavery era many slave owners did not allow slaves to use traditional african instruments , sing or play their native music. As a result many of the words and melodies were forgotten and vanished in North America. A new style of music emerged from this limitation. The church allowed many slaves to express their feelings through gospel songs. Many slaves were not allowed to attend but met secretly anyway. The best part about gospel music tradition was the use of a choir. The church choir members consisted of volunteer singers from the
  • 51. Woman Hollering Creek Myth Analysis Throughout history, myth has taught lessons, explained phenomena, and perpetuated common knowledge and thought. Myth is threaded into history all over the world, and along the border of the United States and Mexico is no different. In Woman Hollering Creek, Sandra Cisneros reinscribes myths that have perpetuated the patriarchy, breaking down stereotypes and the narratives that we have come to associate with them. This essay will explore the roles of La Llorona and La Malinche in Woman Hollering Creek and Never Marry A Mexican. These myths are inscribed within Mexican American women and Cisneros combats these archetypes by retelling them. The reinscription of these myths by Sandra Cisneros gives up hope that there is more than just the fate of the mourning mother, the colonized victim, and the virgin. The first myth is that of La Llorona. La Llorona is one of the most prevalent myths in Latinx culture. Although there are several retellings of the myth, it is said that after finding out about her husband s infidelity La Llorona drowned their children and spends her days stuck in between the spirit world and this world, grieving their loss and searching for children to replace her own. This myth is often told by Mexican parents to keep their children from wandering out at night, but this story reinforces the notion of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... La Malinche is a legend rooted in history. With its beginnings dated back to the 14th century, La Malinche is the tragic story of Malinali, an indigenous woman who was sold as a slave to Hernan CortГ©s. The legend has multiple variations as well. As Cortes s translator, La Malinche was raped and forced to bear his child, MartГn, who would become the first Mexican, as half indigenous and half Spanish. She is oftentimes blamed for the fall of the indigenous world in Mexico, because she enabled CortГ©s and his soldiers by translating for them, although she did not have a
  • 52. Essay on The War of the Triple Alliance The War of the Triple Alliance is regarded as the bloodiest war in the history of Latin America, taking place from 1864 to 1870. In a seemingly uneven match up, the country of Paraguay took on an alliance of three countries: Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina. Paraguay started this conflict under the rule of Francisco Solano LГіpez, the country s dictator. What would make Fransisco Solano LГіpez, dictator of Paraguay, exponentially increase his militaryforces and attack an alliance of three countries, two of which are much larger than Paraguay? I will use operational code to study the dictator who started the war and examine reasons as to why he made such the rash and risky decision that he did. After examining Francisco Solano LГіpez s... Being the first born son, LГіpez was trained from the very beginning by his father to be a powerful, military minded leader. (Saeger, 38).While he was growing up and learning about the ways of politics, he never answered to anyone but his father, who doted on him constantly. He lacked a true sense of authority from his father; something that is essential for development of his interpersonal skills. He never grasped the concept of empathy. He lacked respect for other people and whatever assumed authority that they carried with them, and that translated to his adult life, when he encountered other leaders in similar positions. (Saeger, 39). He was intelligent, hard working, and he ruled with an iron fist, even as a child and young adult. Personality characteristics of childhood will translate to adult life, which explains his need to be satisfied on all accounts, no matter what the cost to others. In addition to taking after his father s example of a man in military power, he also took a strong liking and had a deep admiration for Napoleon Bonaparte and the empire that he created. He modeled the army s uniforms after Napoleon s army, and even had a crown that was a replica of Napoleon s. He wanted to make Paraguay the most dominant force in Eastern South America, and he modeled his
