Writing an essay on the United States of America is no small task, considering the vast and
intricate nature of the subject. The challenge lies not only in capturing the rich tapestry of its

One must grapple with the sheer breadth of topics that fall under the umbrella of the United
States – from its revolutionary origins and the drafting of the Constitution to its westward

approach.
Moreover, navigating the multitude of perspectives, ideologies, and opinions that exist within the

achievements or acknowledging its flaws, the essayist must maintain a critical yet fair stance,
recognizing that the United States is a nation shaped by diverse narratives and experiences.

Andrew Carnegie, John Davison Rockefeller, and John...
In the years following the Civil War, the American economy was suffering from
extreme disorder. However, during the late 1800s and early 1900s, important leaders
of American industry arose, essentially transforming the American financial system
from chaos to efficiency. These powerful men shaped America into a world
superpower and the country s economy sparked jealous across the globe. Their
contributions to business positively affected not only the United States economy, but
society as well. Andrew Carnegie, John Davison Rockefeller, and John Pierpont
Morgan reflect the mammoth industrial age of America. Although some may argue
these industrialists were robber barons, these men were, in reality, captains of industry

His goal was to spread efficiency and organization throughout every company he
owned and operated. Through Rockefeller s efforts, the chaos of the oil industry
was transformed into order and stability. His influence in this industry led to the
creation of a myriad of products for the public which only bettered their ways of
life. Similar to Carnegie, Rockefeller also fostered lower prices for oil, making
light cheap and available to the public as the oil was mainly utilized in kerosene
lamps. His Standard Oil Company served as precursor of America s economic
success both at home and on an international level.
Morgan, along with Carnegie and Rockefeller, worked to make the American
economy organized and systematic. In fact, Morgan effectively bailed out the
American financial system two times. At one point, the U.S. Treasury seemed on
the brink of failure as it didn t have enough gold in reserve to meet its bills (27). J.P.
Morgan provided the nation with $62 million, saving the American economy. Later
on, the nation faced a financial problem, so destructive that it could have led to a
depression. The situation was so horrific that a trust company nearly collapsed, which
would have promoted widespread panic. Morgan convinced several of the nation s
foremost financers to lend money in an effort to save the trust, in turn saving the
country from a financial catastrophe. Morgan is also infamously known for creating
successful companies from failing
Romeo And Juliet Vs West Side Story Essay
In the film West Side Story, there are two gangs, the Jets and the Sharks. Similar to
the Montagues and Capulets of Romeo and Juliet, these gangs despise one another
and fight consistently. West Side Story follows a similar plot as Romeo and Juliet,
with a boy, Tony, and a girl, Maria, from opposite gangs falling in love with each
other, despite disapproval from their friends and family. There even is another boy
who is in love with Maria, and eventually, kills Tony. The recurring theme between
these two films is that often times people believe that they have found their destiny,
and give up everything in order to chase what they think is meant to be, but in the
end, they just end up losing everything. This is evident in Romeo and Juliet
because both Romeo and Juliet believe the other one is their true love, and they end
up taking their own lives to be with each other, leaving behind their family and their
lives. In West Side Story, this is evident because Maria and Tony believe they are
meant to be together, and in the end Tony gets killed, leaving his family and friends
behind.
One thing the director of West Side Story changed about this adaptation is the end.
In Romeo and Juliet, the lovers both die, but in West Side Story, only the boy dies. I

In the scene when Maria went to find Tony, but was stopped by members of the
rival gang. She was harassed by these men. Soon after a man walks in, named Doc,
and stops the men from harassing Maria. When Doc walks in, the music that was
previously playing was completely cut off. It was totally silent, except for the
footsteps of Doc when he approached Maria and the men. This caused a very
serious feeling to be created in the movie. Another movie technique the directors
used was the appearance of the gang that harassed Maria. They had a paperboy type
look, almost beggar like. To me, this creates the tone that they were dirty misogynists,
and just bad
Analysis Of Proslogion By Anselm
Anselm, in his work Proslogion , attempts to answer the question Does God exist in
reality? based on the reason and understanding, temporary excluding faith for the sake
of argument. Anselm s ontological argument widely reflects the main themes of
medieval philosophy of religion, which are compatibility between the divine
attributes and theism in opposition to skepticism and naturalistic schemes. Arguing
for the monotheism, in other words, existenceof the single God, the author actually
assumes him to possess all the divine attributes. From here, one may already conclude
that Anselm, calling God something than which nothing greater can be thought ,
might unite divine attributes in one image and therefore assert the possibility of
coexistence
The Theme Of Love In Valentine By Carol Ann Duffy
Being in love is like an amalgamation of different yet powerful emotions exploding
every second. It tends to heighten ones perception, hence, perceiving the world
through a larger lens. It can cause a deep sense of grief at times but it can also
make one feel a certain kind of content. The very exclusive one where the abundance
of joy cannot be defined. Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy explores the many sides to
love. The entire poem is an extended metaphor that criticizes the stereotypical idea
of love. Duffy uses an onion, a very unusual object as a symbol to represent a gift for
one s admirer. The poet reveals the positive aspects of the speaker s attitude to love
through the use of powerful imagery (similes, metaphors, repetition), prominent...

Duffy utilizes a plethora of different words ranging from positive to negative. She
carefully picks them to warn the reader what your about to read isn t an ordinary
love poem. The words careful and light introduced in the first stanza express delicacy
and innocence. Love could explode at anytime yet remain stable. Duffy inserts
direct, straightforward words such as here and take it to catch the reader s
attention. These words are ended with a period giving an austere tone. The use of
negative words such as blind, tears and grief illustrate an image of sorrow and
misery creating an element of danger. Something quite uncommon for a poem
entitled valentine . Here Duffy takes the reader to the unpleasant side of love that
is often ignored in most love poems. She is conveying the true reality of being in
love and not just the fantasized version of it. In the second half of the poem, Duffy
chooses to use a more bold set of words such as fierce , possessive , lethal and
faithful which contradict the words kiss , stay and lips which is more subtle and
distinctive. The repetition of the word cling towards the end of the poem emphasizes
that once your love is vanished the scent the memory will still live on, leaving an
impression in your life, a permanent tattoo imprinted in your
Disadvantages Of Flexible Saving Account
Flexible saving Accounts (FSAs) are a kind of cafeteria plan letting employees to
choose cash and specified welfares by the method of a payroll inference that they
designate each year. Such plan enables the company to expand benefit selections on
a tax advantaged foundation to employees with negligible extra out of pocket
expenses. Flexible spending accounts provides several advantages to Blue Post
Company and the employees. Though, there are some difficulties to be aware of. The
most common one is the utilize it or lose it characteristic. Any amounts donated to an
account besides not consumed during the span of the year are lost to the Blue Post
Company. FSA can be set up as compensation degeneration plans which are financed
totally with representative commitments from their pay checks. The duty law restricts

Nonetheless, by utilizing a Flexible Saving Account, the employees can maintain a
strategic distance from a considerable measure of these little costs and secure their
financial plan (John et al., 2014). Another point of preference of this sort of
arrangement is that they can pay for over the counter medications. There is a
rundown of particular over the counter medications that can be paid for with assets

Compare And Contrast Essay On Public Vs Private School
Everyone knows that private school is more expensive than public school, but has it
ever occurred to you why it is like this? Private schools are not just trying to take your
money, they are just trying to provide a quality education, without the government
funding that public schools get. The tuition money goes to very important things;
high quality teachers, better resources and the overall quality and stability of the
institution. It is true that private schooltuition is expensive, but private schools have
been proven to be more orderly and safe, have more engaged teachers, better
equipped for religious and special needs, and students have better test scores and are
better prepared for college and the rest of life. Private schools are known for setting
high standards, engaging students, and sparking the desire to learn. If the standards
are set high, the students will work hard to reach them. Private school students
generally perform higher than public schoolstudents on standardized achievement
tests. In the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), private school
students scored well above the national average. (CAPE | Council for American
Private Education. CAPE) Private schools do a great job challenging their students to
stretch their capacity; they require more courses for graduation than public schools in
math, science, social studies, foreign language, and computer sciences. Requiring
more courses for graduation may seem like a lot of work, but it
The Theological Doctrine Of The Holy Trinity
The Holy Trinity is, according to the Cambridge Dictionary of Philosophy, the
theological doctrine that God consists of three persons (Audi, 928). Those persons
are the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Each within the religion of Christianity
are considered omnipotent and omniscient (IEP, URL). This theory validates the
actions of the religion s savior JesusChrist, who as the Son of God(and part of the
Holy Trinity) died a painful death of suffering for the sins of humans. This offers
reasoning for the worship of different God s within the monotheistic religion. The
concept of the Holy Trinity creates a paradoxical puzzle that many philosophers and
theologians are still trying to explain to this day. However, during medieval times
philosophers may have gone through greater lengths to explain the trinitarian view
than any other era in philosophical history. The Catholic Church s council carries
forth hearings relative to those of the United States judicial system, and has
maintained this method since medieval times. However, during those times it was
much easier to get charged for heresy, which caused a shared viewpoint in most of the
writings of the time, based largely on the groundwork put forth initially by Saint
Augustine of Hippo. This viewpoint, like many others that are somewhat
misunderstood, morphed into what is written by those philosophers playing it safe ,
but still carry the essence of Augustine s primary influence, Plotinus.

Blockbuster s Place in the Current Movie Rental Market

It helps studio s earn more money when customers rent movies from Blockbusters

in the market, but are not as reliable as blockbuster. In every store they offer the
option of customer service to guide their customers in picking the best movie
rental. Plus blockbusters suggest a customer rent a movie for more then one night.
All US households own at least one or two DVD players and can choose to go the
store for a movie rental. Blockbusters provide customers with a deal that can give
them two whole months of free movie rentals for those customers who cancel their
services with Netflix or from Wal Mart.
However, all of these strengths that Blockbuster has to offer there are always
weakness lingering around. The most popular one is not responding quickly enough
to the technological advantages of direct digital distributions, and waited until Netflix
come into the market. Blockbuster co brand their movie sells with the Direct T.V in
which they lose some of there market shares. Another thing is that Blockbuster stores
are always out of movies in stock when customers demand for them. With Netflix,
TiVo, and On Demand and the idea of rentinga movie from the comfort of your
home, it s making it harder to convince customers to rent a movie from the store.
Blockbuster finally adapted to the new technological advances to be able to compete
with their competitors by also

How Do Henry Paine And Jefferson Use Rhetorical Devices
Rhetorical devices are often turned to because of how effectively they are able to
convey ideas Henry, Paine, and Jefferson being prime users of them. Often times,
these devices are used to make ideas clearer or to provide insights for the audience.
These techniques allowed Henry, Paine, and Jefferson to illustrate their hatred
towards the British and effectively influence their audience to feel the same. As a
result, the audience is able to be easily manipulated by their impassioned appeals.
Rhetorical devices such as antithesis and repetition are commonly utilized within
their works in order to push their audience to formulate strong opinions against the
British. For example, Henry s repeated use of Sir and let it come (Source A) in
The Dangers Of Workers Rights During The 19th Century
The industrialization period that took place during the 19th century brought forth a
great deal of change for workers. Although these changes made for more efficient
production, the workers also faced harsh work conditions, which were extremely
dangerous as well as believed to be the cause of early deaths for some. These
conditions included long work hours without breaks, exposure to pollution and new
machinery, and the use of child labor. Fortunately, the critique of these harsh
conditions led to improved conditions for workers and new laws protecting the
worker rights. During the 19th centuryas industrialization was taking over many
people were looking for work and waiting in long lines to obtain jobs in mills and
factories. As a result, mill and factory owners, knowing this, took advantage of the
workers that they hired and required them to work long hours for small wages. It
was all too common for workers to work 12 hours, or more, daily in hot and
uncomfortable environments. In addition to these long hours, the workers would
not receive a break for lunch or to rehydrate their bodies. This led to exhaustion for
workers and increased the danger of working in these mills and factories.
Employers would run their business with strict discipline, in a prison manner, to
enforce their workers to maintain their pace. Reformers, such as Robert Owen and
Titus Salt, were employers known for looking after their workforce and the safety of
the workers. These reformers were able
Essay about The Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF)
Conventional warfare follows the single battle concept, where two or more well
defined forces using weapons that target the opposing force. The contiguous battle
space is well defined with a deep, close and rear area allowing the force commander
to array forces that can be visually displayed in a linear graphic. This does not hold
true in an unconventional warfare, where the rear area may also be the close and
deep fight and forces may target the civilian population either through direct, indirect
or propaganda attacks. The will of the people play an important part in
unconventional warfare and their support to either force is equally important. The

The MAGTF is the primary task organized unit designed and organized to conduct all

Victims of a triple jeopardy of classism, sexism and racism, they are trampled upon
at the bottom of the food chain. Yet, giving life to those that take their sustenance
and essences, they are left with the burden and oppression to carry. The idea of
labelling a woman as a black mother perpetuates an ideology that blackness is not
encompassed in mothering. The black woman never granted the opportunity, during
or after slavery, to access the white privilege of motherhood. Thus, she cannot attain
the white definition of motherhood. Alice Walker with her writing would see no
problem with the removal of the black woman from an apparent white ideal of

How would Paris, employees, and customers receive the new FS administration?
Would the values and standards of the company be compatible with those held by
French culture? The question was to decide what to keep and what could be changed
in their strategy when considering the elements of the French national culture and
legal aspects. The advantages that FSH had on its side were experience; they had
already been successful in other 23 countries reaching this balance using the diversity

success of the firm could mean entering a highly profitable market, improving the

Collective Memory
Narratives are the culturally historical symbols and memories nation s use to uphold
modern values, customs, and practices. Through the course of history and the
collective memory of the people, a variety of narratives are formed; and while some
last in the mainstream, other narratives fade into the background of the national and
practiced culture. However, these narratives do not necessarily disappear, and some
remain relatively strong in the mentalities of the public―even in times of legitimate
and/or long lasting hegemonic values that stand in opposition. This paper will
examine the influences of official and alternative narratives, how they are selected
through historical and collective memory, and hegemonic impacts through the

For example, by generating the Communistic pride and strength with themes of
celebration, such as the May Day parades (International Worker s Day) and the
October Revolution, Gierek gave the public a new social and political culture and
narrative of practice. He continued this patriotic theme of Communistic and
authoritative legitimacy through propagating regularly social and politically cultural
events, instilling the public with deeper connectivity to the Communist regime and
the pride one can take in its governance. While these strategies showed relative but
temporary success, Kubik notes ceremonials and rituals that took stronger hold
amongst the Polish public:
My Dorm Room With Style
Let s face it dorm rooms can be depressing. Many of them are small, cramped, and
devoid of any style or life. And since you only live in them for nine months before
moving on, it can feel pointless to spend any real time decorating your space.
While dorms have all sorts of restrictions that prevent you from going wild with
your dГ©cor, it is possible to decorate your dorm room with style that goes beyond a
few random posters on the wall. Follow these simple tips and ideas to infuse your
dorm room with style and enjoy your school year. Choose a ColorPalette In college, it
s easy to decorate your dorm room as you go, collecting an array of pieces that don t
really add up to much of anything. To give your dorm room a cohesive look, choose
a color palette that you love and use it as a guide when choosing accessories. If you
don t have a favorite hue, think of your favorite places or moods. Deep blues and
greens can invoke the sea and promote calm, while reds and oranges invite a spicy
flair that can awake and excite you. Don t go overboard in your color scheme,
however, or you may start to feel closed in rather than enjoy it. Organize your dorm
room around one or two main colors and accessorize in smaller ways with accent
colors. Key pieces in your dorm room you can decorate are the bedding, desk chair,
lamp, clock, or even some accessory pieces on a desk or shelf. Be sure to inject
splashes of a complimentary color within the room to keep it from feeling too one
note.

A graphic designer s job is creating design solutions with a high visual impact, which
involves communicating with clients and discussing what they would like the

The Evolution Of Political Philosophy And Political Science
As centuries have passed, political thought has undergone constant development and
together with its development are changes. These changes had a tremendous effect in
the discipline. Political philosophy continued to progress which affected both
political theory and political science. It seems that with the progression of political
philosophy, there was a growing need for the the discipline to become more
scientific. They wanted it to be based on facts, to become value free and to be
precise. Political philosophystarted veering away from the classics. Despite the
continuous need to be scientific, there were still groups which remained inclined to
the classics and believed that the traditions and values are essential in studying the
discipline. These conflicting views concerning the traditionalists and the
behavioralists caused the gap between political philosophy and political scienceand
eventually the two separated. So it seems that as political philosophy progress,
political science branched outside the academe and political theory, as it grew larger
became more and more alienated. In order to explain why political science drifted
apart from political philosophy, one must go back to the history of political
philosophy. It is important to understand what was the state of political philosophy

Teaching Philosophy
Cicero said, What noble employment is more valuable to the state than that of the
man who instructs the rising generation? He was correct in saying this because the
young people of today will become the world leaders of tomorrow. The educators that
instruct these children are important to this society because they will help shape the
lives of these young people.
When deciding upon a philosophy of education, I was torn between two:
Progressivism and Essentialism. The idea of educating students with real world
experiences is one reason I can identify with Progressivism. On the other hand, the
back to basics approach to teaching is a reason I believe in Essentialism. It is my
belief that combining the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is so the student who knows the subject material can assist the other student.
This idea is based on two reasons. The first being that the student, who does not
quite understand, can have a peer s assistance. The second is so that the student
who already knows the material won t get bored while the other students catch up.
By allowing this type of group learning, I will be encouraging the students to help
each other. They will also learn to work well together (a skill needed in today s
world).
My education time will not be wasted on discipline problems. If I have a student
who is being disruptive, I do not plan on calling attention to their misbehavior. I will
simply place their name on the board. After their name is on the board, if they
continue to be disruptive, he or she will be quietly separated from the other students
until they can behave properly. I do not want the children to form the idea that they
can receive more attention by misbehaving. I want them to strive to be attentive, well
behaved children. This behavior will be encouraged by praising the children when
they are being good, rather than constantly calling attention away from the lesson to
instruct a student to behave.
In conclusion, I would like to summarize the main ideas of my philosophy. The first
idea is my desire to incorporate my two philosophies into one curriculum. The
second being the idea of an environment where children will learn, and be able to

These are also known as literals and are defined as the fixed values. This means they
cannot be altered. They may be floating type, integer type, character type etc. It may

Analysis Of Blood In The Hills
Based off glancing at the title alone, the reader is immediately aware of what to
expect upon opening the publication. Blood in the Hills: The Story of Khe Sahn,
the Most Savage Fight of the Vietnam War, written by Robert Maras, with the
assistance of Charles W. Sasser, tells the story of Maras, a Vietnam veteran, and his
experiences during the war. From his combat landing on Red Beach, to his
departure from the Demilitarized Zone, also known as the DMZ, Robert Maras
describes in great detail the joys and sorrows of his time in Vietnam. The book also
exhibits the development of the average Marine, and the mental and physical toll the
fighting at Khe Sanhtakes on each individual. Throughout the memoir, the warrior
creed of Semper Fidelis is repeated an abundance of times, meaning always faithful,
and symbolizing the US Marine Corps determination to fight for their beloved
country (Maras 3). This saying was especially influential during the times Bob
Maras was subjected to viewing his comrades perish before him, as he could only
hope he would survive the countless battles in the jungle terrain of Khe Sanh. Blood
in the Hills is a powerful read for those engrossed with not only the corporeal aspect
of war, but fascinated in learning about warfare from a psychological perspective.
Critically speaking, the authors are somewhat qualified to discuss the topic at hand,
but Maras, the protagonist, is by no means a professional historian on the Vietnam
War. In fact, the same
Usa Today Case Summary
Background
USA Today is a national U.S. daily general interest newspaper, the first of its kind.
Launched in 1982 by Allen Neuharth, head of the Gannett newspaper chain, it
reached a circulation of one million within a year and surpassed two million in the
1990s. Initially considered gimmicky and insubstantial, it gradually developed a
reputation for higher quality while increasing its circulation and advertising revenues
at a time when few papers were experiencing growth. The features that originally set
it apart are abundant colorful graphics, very brief stories, and a concentration on
sports and celebrity, have influenced other newspapers. To date, USA Todayremains
the widest circulated print newspaper in the United States.

The advertising revenue of the company was adversely affected in 2008 because of
the economic recession. The companies faced a lot of losses because of high paper

Right now USA Today s content is geared mostly towards male readers. Female
readers only make up 30% of their customer base. If USA Today were to give their
content a facelift it could generate more readers not necessarily just women though.
In the beginning USA Today prided themselves on being unique and having fun
content in their paper compared to their competitors. But now they re just trying to be
another WSJ with their primary hard news. USA Today needs to remember that their
main demographic is different from WSJ s more affluent and wealthy demographic.
They need to get back to their roots.
Including Fashion and Entertainment sections in their paper could help them achieve
the new image that they need and help them get attention from younger generations
and female readers. Yes their loyal fan base is older but only changing their content a
little will allow them to keep their loyal customers and branch out to new ones with
lighter more fun content.
Our generation today isn t always concerned with hard news, political news

Chemical Formulas Review: Nomenclature and Formula Writing
Naming Simple Compounds
There are four naming systems you should familiarize yourself with to succeed on
the SAT II Chemistry exam. The trick is recognizing which naming system to use.
Here are the guidelines: * If the compound starts with H, it is an acid. Use the
naming acids rules. * If the compound starts with C and contains quite a few H s and
perhaps some O s, it is organic. Use the naming organic compounds rules. * If the
compound starts with a metal, it is most likely ionic. Use the naming binary ionic
compounds rules. * If the compound starts with a nonmetal other than H or C, use the
naming binary molecular compounds rules.

either the acid s name or its formula to complete the table below: Acid formula| Acid

(or perchloric acid)| HNO3| | | Hydrobromic acid| H3PO4| | H3PO3| | | Hydrocyanic
acid| HC2H3O2| | | Carbonic acid| | Hydroiodic acid| HF| |
Naming Organic Compounds
How do you know it s organic? The formula will start with a C followed by H s.
Most of the organic carbons you will encounter will be either hydrocarbons or
alcohols, and luckily for you, these are the simplest of all to name. Learn the list of
prefixes in the table following this section: they correspond to the number of carbons
present in the compound. The following silly statement will help you remember the
order of the first four prefixes since they are not ones you are familiar with: Me eat
peanut butter. This corresponds to meth , eth , prop , and but , which correspond to
one, two, three, and four carbons, respectively.
Now that we have a stem, we need an ending. There are three common hydrocarbon
endings; the ending changes depending on the structure of the molecule: * ane =
alkane (all single bonds and saturated); CnH2n+2; saturated: it contains the maximum
number of H s * ene = alkene (contains double bond, unsaturated); CnH2n *

Forrest Gump Essay
Forrest Gump
Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re gonna get. Forrest Gump
is the portrayal of a man that has been alienated from society, not because he is
unintelligent or dimwitted, but rather because he is not restricted by the conventional
ideals which are embedded within his culture; thus, Forrest challenges the
conformities and principals that most people are accustomed to. The contrast that
Robert Zemeckis, director of the film, is attempting to convey through the character
of Forrest Gump is how most people are too smart for there own good; and thus, try
to escape the realities and actualities of life. While other characters in the story are
suppressed by society s conflicts, Forrest remains blinded ... Show more content on

The film undeniably points out that those who are in need of help are the people who
try to hard to control their own destiny.
This film is the story of a man s journey through life and his innocent reflections on
what living is all about. However entangled he became with the aspects of his life;
he is able to survive through his simplicity. This innocence, which comes from a
limited understanding of the world around him, gives Gump a uniquely positive
perspective of life. Despite the overwhelming conflicts that existed during the time
period in which Forrest lived, he continues to seek the best of all worlds in the
worst of all possible times. Some might argue that this movie was merely a mocking
of the past with no true sentiments. However incorrectly this movie did portray the
past, it did not do so without some bigger purpose. The film is evidently connected
to society s tremendous national yearning for innocence. Moreover, the movie
criticizes society for their inability to deal with complicated issues individually,
especially when it sheds an unflattering truth. This is strongly conveyed in one
specific scene in which Forrest is standing on a podium in Washington D.C., just
coming back from the Vietnam War, and addresses the thousands of people in the
audience. Interestingly, he gives an entire speech and no one hears any of it, yet they
all applaud. While the entire audience is celebrating for no

equation of morality is false. The unexplainable phenomenon of one s conscious,

The Crucible Paranoia Analysis
What do you think of when you hear the word mass hysteria? In the Crucible, a
play written by Arthur Miller, is both an allegory and tragedy where the Puritan
society of Salem is attacked with the hysteria of witchcraft. It all started with five
young girls of the Salem society caught dancing naked around a bonfire. This
practice is viewed upon by the Puritans as the task of the devil. In the beginning of
the play, there was controversy about ownership of land between some of the
villagers. Later in the story, people feared for their own safety and begin pointing
fingers and accusing their neighbors of witchcraft in order to escape being hanged.
This caused the society to get more and more separated as time went on. This
emphasizes the idea of how fearand suspicion can destroy a society due to
accusations, roundups, and forced confessions. Miller captures the evil of paranoia
and fear in his play through emotions by letting them shine through his characters to
make the audience feel the tension, the angst and the desperation throughout the play.
Arthur Miller includes a large number of logical fallacies such as scare tactic and
slippery slope in order to emphasize the evil or paranoia and fear in his play
through emotions of the characters. Miller exemplifies scare tactic when Abigail
says ... I saw Indians smash my dear parents head upon the pillow next to mine, and
I have seen reddish work done at night, and I can make you wish you had never seen
the sun go down!

The Classic Mayan Civilization dominated lower Mexico and upper Central America

The Classic Mayan Civilization lasted from 250 CE to 900 CE which was the height
of its civilization. Mayan territory included southern Mexico, Guatemala, western
Honduras, western El Salvador, and Belize (Furian). They had a monarchy with the

The underworld of the Xibalbans was a tricky place as they would trick people

Journey through the Tree of Life is completed, people reached Tamoanchan to enjoy
the afterlife. This influenced the Mayans have people be sacrificed for rituals for

The Mayan architecture can be best represented by the their temples. Their
temples were placed near city states for religion to give offerings to the gods and
are tombs of dead rulers (Cartwright 6). These temples can be up to sixty five
meters high with very steep staircases. Palaces were similar to the temples and
located in the center of cities. Flat pieces of stone made up these palaces stacked on
each other with corbelled roofs (Cartwright 8). The purpose for the palace was for
king to communicate with the people from the city through festivals, dances, or other
events (Minster 7). Mayan architecture can relate to Mexican history by the ways
these buildings are used in their culture. Similar buildings can found in later periods
of history during the Aztecs. Aztecs had similar architecture structure in their temples

Slumdog Millionaire shows Jamal s slumdog childhood as an exciting adventure,
carefree, always finding ways to acquire food or money, and narrowly escaping

as hunger, illness and childhood deviance. Behind the Beautiful Forevers describes
numerous children s tragic death due to the pressures of their hardship and social

after he thought that he was going to be captured and tortured by police or killed

What Is The Theme Of Desert Places By Robert Frost Poem
Witnessing constant disappearance, yet remaining to seem like the depiction of
complete normality. Deafening silence engulfs all surroundings, on its way to
eventually evoking insanity. The smell of cold, dry air freezes over all breathing
pathways, caging in the ribs, preventing the ability to inhale and exhale, leaving
behind the taste of metal as a reminder of a chaotic state of mind. Mentally trapped in
chosen solidarity, Robert Frost, William Shakespeare, and Elizabeth Bishop were able
to express their hidden despair through poetry. Frost having experienced major loss
in his life, Shakespeare lying to himself to cope with his actions, and Bishop
constantly masking her pain while in the eyes of the public. In Desert Places , When

diction to weaken the severity of their personal issues. Robert Frost s poem Desert
Places diminishes an overall sense of emptiness to being nothing compared to what he
holds within himself through the use of connotative diction. Throughout the poem,
the description of a cold, dark night is meant to represent the intensity of the
depression that Frost was feeling. In the final stanza, Frost reveals that I have it in me
so much nearer home, To scare myself with my own desert places , it being the
darkness previously mentioned in the poem. The desert places introduced in the final
line are a representation of the dark emotions Frost was experiencing, and
Jewish Identity During The Middle Ages
During the Middle Ages, Jewish individuals maintained a strong sense of a
collective unity while living without autonomy. Jewish people in the Middle Ages
were stateless, and many felt as if they were foreigners inside of countries that they
have lived in for years. However, despite this disconnect, Jewswere a part of the
everyday community life and often associated with their Christian or Muslim
counterparts. It was this complex social structure that allowed Jewish members of
society to both able to maintain a separate identity during the Middle Ages through
their sacred time, communal ties, literacy, and family ties, while still being

In Jewish culture, the Sabbath, or the day of rest is on Saturday, rather than
Sunday like the Christians or Friday like their Muslim counterparts. By having a
separate day entirely from their peers, the Sabbath publically demonstrated their
separation of beliefs from those around them. The separate days of rest indicate the
difference between the religions and thus create a separate identity for Jews
because they have an entirely different day of worship. Moreover, in addition to
the actual separation of days, the Sabbath sought to create a Jewish identity
because the Sabbath immersed the Jewish people in a full day of worship and
ritual based activities. For instance, leading up to Sabbath men and women had to
partake in certain duties in order to prepare for the holy day of the week. Men and
women were supposed to partake in ritual bathing before entering the synagogue,
they were meant to read the Torah, and women were meant to light the candles
(nerot) and make the challah bread for the Sabbath meal. The Sabbath meals were
generally made by the wife or women of the home and eaten on Friday nights
before the Sabbath day. At these meals, the family would thank God for the food at
hand and remember that even though the temple was gone, that they were
continuing Gods good work. Typically, the Sabbath meals were meant to have
challah bread, wine, and meat if the family could afford it because the Sabbath
meals were meant to be a good meal. These meals especially played a role in the
creation of a separate Jewish identity because psychologically they reaffirmed to
Jews that in this moment they were elite. No matter what had happened the week
prior or what was about to happen in the week to come, the Sabbath meals offer a
feeling of strength because it gathers those who love each other to break bread and
unify together through their religion. The

patients, open surgery biopsy was applied to retrieve specimen of sperm. At the
beginning of open biopsy, the skin over the testicle was cleaned with a germ killing
(antiseptic) medicine. The area around covered with a sterile towel. (As like what
was done in onset of local anesthesia.) The testis was grasped between the thumb and
forefinger of the non dominant hand. An incision was then made over the same
area immediately. The size of the incision was about over 0.5 1cm . An vascular
area close to midportion of medial, lateral or anterior surface of the testis was
chosen, tunica albuginea incised longitudinally with a 150 ultrasharp knife. The
testicular parenchyma (approximately 50 750 mg) was excised with sharp, curved
scissors and placed in temperature adopted Hams F10 culture medium supplemented
with 10% Plasmanate. Wet preparations transferred to the in vitro fertilization (IVF)
lab. Individual tubules were isolated by immediate initial dispersal of the specimen
with two sterile glass slides. Mincing of the tissue with a sterile scissors in the Hams
F10 medium additional allowed for mechanical dispersal and preparing sequential
passes of tissue suspension (detection of fully condensed spermatids) through a 24
gauge angiocatheter. As soon as spermatozoa were identified, no further testicular

Conflict Between Narcissism And Aggression Essay
Correspondingly, the propaganda of both Croats and Serbs indulged their populations
to believe that each side was responsible for their suffering.
Further there is a psychological dimension of the ethnic nationalism that is centered
around peoples perceptions when questioning their identity. Conflict is a process
driven by collective needs and fears that comes from a psychological aspect.
Psychology drives attitudes and behaviours of individuals and groups. Using Freud s
analysis, Ignatieff focuses our attention on the relationship between narcissism and
aggression. Narcissism is a personality trait that involves arrogant behavior, a lack of
empathy for other people, and a need for self admiration.
Ignatieff exploration of Freud s analysis conduces him to the assumption that
nationalism and narcissism are two allied expressions. He says:
A nationalist takes the neutral facts about people their language, habit, culture,
tradition, and history and turns these facts into a narrative, whose purpose is to
illuminate the self consciousness of a group, to enable them to think of themselves as
a nation with a claim to self determination. A nationalist, in other words, takes minor
differences indifferent in themselves and transforms them into major differences (45).
This passage shows that nationalism is a sort of narcissism. Yugoslavs nationalists
wanted a nation where all walks of people in Yugoslavia could live together as one
single group. They neglected minor differences
Loss Of Happiness In The Tin Flute, By Gabrielle Roy
When people have a chance at being happy they throw everything they have into
that opportunity because they do not want it to pass by them and live the rest of
their life wondering what if. That is what Florentine was battling with in The Tin
Flute. She does not know if she should follow Jean and see the movie with him or
let him pass her by. Florentine is almost afraid to say no because she wants this
chance at happiness. In The Tin Fluteby Gabrielle Roythe reader should learn that
people can throw everything they have into a chance at happiness because they are
afraid of what may happen if they let it pass.
Florentine is torn between whether or not to go with Jean LГ©vesque and leave
her current life behind. While working at her job in a diner she is approached by a
man who wants to take her out and Florentine is not sure if she should follow him or
let him leave. After taking a rest from her job and thinking about her life and what she
might become she decides that she must immediately stake everything she has to
offer, on one wild chance of happiness. Florentine knows that what she is thinking
about doing is crazy and that most people would not follow a man they knew almost
nothing about to the movies but she wants to take that chance because ... Show more

part of ones decisions that could alter their life, do they go with what their heart

Brick House Connor
With vivid descriptions of a Brick House and its surroundings, the excerpt of the
novel A Bird in the House written by Margaret Laurence unveils an inevitable truth:
people cannot be psychologically confined. In the end, an individual s desire and
acknowledgement of freedom prevails over the confining external power until the
psychological boundary that restrains their independence becomes frail and
insubstantial. Through the use of symbolism and imagery, Margaret Laurence
explores Grandfather Connor s failure in successfully protecting his family due to
his restricting nature. The excerpt begins with Laurence s emphasis on Grandfather
Connor s extent of control in the speaker s household. By describing the house in
Manawaka (1) to be known as the old Connor Place (2), Laurence reveals his role as
the head of the family. As this image of Grandfather Connor is implemented in the
reader s mind, this strong individual who had built his own house (6) becomes a man
with dedication, dedication that enabled him to build a settlement that was the first of
its kind (7). However, as Laurence reveals Grandfather Connor s authority in the
speaker s household, his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hosted by Grandfather Connor, these dinners assemble his family in a place he
knew to be safe and secure. However, as Laurence describes the speaker and her
mother to be flying down the sidewalk, hurrying to get there (21), their inadequacy
in preparation for a timely arrival is shown. It is with this statement that his
inability to properly gather his family is revealed and Grandfather Connor, the head
of his family, is ultimately perceived to be a weak figure in his household. His
attempts to encompass his loved ones with the brick walls, which he knew to be safe
and impenetrable, ultimately fails with their lack of appreciation and
acknowledgement of his fatiguing role as the head of his
The Rebellion Of Mother, By Mary Wilkins Freeman Essay
The Power of a Woman The Revolt of Mother, by Mary Wilkins Freeman, originally
published in Harper s Bazaar in 1890 (Gale 1997) it gives readers a view into the life
of a woman who is struggling with how to be correct and proper yet, remain true to
herself. While some may see Sarah s actions as signs of weakness they are actually
showing her strength. She is a womanwho, in spite of the restrictions placed on her
because of her gender shows the power of a woman by, knowing when to pick her
battles, showing love for her familyby serving them, and following her heart to
make the hard decisions regardless of the opposition. The opening scene has Sarah
Penn picks her battles in a conversation with her husband. A glimpse is given of
Adoniram, the husband s feelings about the conversation he knows is coming. It
must have been a familiar battle between them; he is unwilling to discuss, and she
is unwilling to leave until she gets answers. She exudes a quiet strength, as she
stands waiting, her physical characteristics are described But her eyes, fixed upon
the old man, looked as if the meekness had been the result of her own will, never
the will of another. (Freeman 145). She is a woman who understands the rules of
society regarding her gender and she knows when and where to pick her battles. Later
in the story, Sarah again shows strength in knowing when to pick her battles with her
husband. She speaks up when she must and stays silent when she recognizes the
Comedy Makes Us Superior to Absurdity
Tragedy is what comes to us in the perception of absurdity; it is when we recognize
it but we hate it. However, Comedy is the acceptance of absurdity. By examining the
works of Much Ado about Nothing, Dr. Horribles Sing Along Blog, and Candide we
can see that only through comedy do we make ourselves the superiors of absurdity
and therefore we need tragedy to keep the balance between laughter and torment
sustainable.
In the version of John Whedons, much ado parts of tragedy are combined with
elements of comedy, which makes this version an acceptable light comedy. A
tragedy is when the characters try to solve a problem that affects everyone in the
story and it ends with all the characters uniting in either a marriage or a party.
Much Ado About Nothing is no exception, and Hero s pretending to die of
humiliation by the friar s orders makes tragedy more vividly present here, Pause
awhile, [and] let my counsel sway you in this case. Your daughter here the princes
left for dead: Let her awhile be secretly kept in, And publish it that she is dead
indeed; Maintain a mourning ostentation And on your family s old monument Hang
mournful epitaphs and do all rites That appertain unto a burial. (Act IV Scene II).
Much Ado about Nothing, creates a very strong sense of anger, betrayal, hatred,
grief, and despair among the main characters. Therefore, Shakespeare s usage of
comedic techniques like classic wit, falling in love, and robust hilarity are a must in
order to tip the scale in
Causes And Effects Of Social Media s Effects On Society
Social Media Effects on the Society
Social media is having a strong impact in our community, culture, and business.
During the last several years technology has improved, making users of all ages
affected by this universal source. The history of social media started in 1997 when
the first social media site was launched allowing users to get in touch with friends.
In 1999, was when social media became popular and started to develop its purpose.
After a while, social media started to reflect negative changes on their user s life. As
a result, addiction starts creating a loyalty bond toward this popular world escape.
For example, 94% of teens go online daily this demonstrates how this innovation is
controlling people s life behind a screen. Some people have the ability to control their
emotions and are mentally prepared to face technological innovation, however, a
huge percentage of the population seem to develop more issues throughout time.
Social media destroy interpersonal communication skills, making face to face
communication harder by creating all t.
Social media has been a topic that parents, teachers, and psychologists had been
concerned about. Since is having a huge impact on the current generation. For
example, cyberbullying is one of the most popular accusation on the internet since
more than half of the adolescents and teens have been victims of this form of teen
violence that can harm young people live. Kids had developed a violence in their
attitudes, their behavior had totally changed to worse. Violence in the media tends
to put children at a risky position. For example, they tend to be less sensitive toward
other pain, fear of what is around them can be higher than regular kids, and they
become more aggressive and less understandable. Researchers had shown that kids
who spend tons of hours on social media tend to be aggressive teenagers in the
future. For example, teenagers who frequently use networking tend to develop more
narcissistic inclination forgetting others people feeling. Violence can change a kid s
point of view and have a huge influence on what they might become in the future. The
excess of violence on social media throughout time might become joyful to their
views. That is some of
School Lunches In Schools
Eating healthy nutritious food is the simple and right solution to get rid of excess
body weight effortlessly and become slim and healthy forever. (Subodh Gupta) In
2010, the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act gave the federal government additional
authority to set standards for food sold in school grounds. This enforced schools to
require fruits and vegetables in their schoollunches every day. Although this act was
implemented, parents of students going to schools still contend that school lunches
are substandard and should be amended immediately. For the betterment of children,
school lunches should be enhanced due to the fact that it s excessively fattening, it
could hinder a child s thinking process in class, but it would be difficult to improve it.

In scientific research, it was discovered that children who eat school lunch have a
heightened chance of developing obesity. To add more, only 6% of schools monitor
the USDA guidelines for school lunches. This results in many schools essentially
having unhealthy school lunches that could enlarge the chances for obesity. As a
student, this prominently shocks me due to the fact the food that I consume practically
every day could affect my health. Although the percentage amongst chances of
obesity by school lunch and without school lunches are low, it still could affect us in
the future and may lead to a disease, Recent data shows that while an estimated 30.6
million US students eat school lunches, only 6% of school lunch programs meet the
nutritional requirements established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Olaudah Equiano Analysis
In the Bible, the book of Hebrews states, Now faith is the substance of things hoped
for and the evidence of things not seen (King James Bible, Hebrews. 11.1).The
spiritual tones of things hoped for , plays a significant role throughout Olaudah
Equiano autobiography, The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah EquianoOR,
Gustavus Vassa, The African . Originally published in 1789, Equiano s narrative went
through a series of revisions throughout his lifetime, finally becoming a bestseller.
Equiano s treasured writing depicts his personal accounts from childhood, holding the
status of an African aristocrat in Benin, West Africa, to being kidnapped and forced
into slaveryin the infamous Middle Passage slave trade. While slavery, attempts to
divest Equiano of his hope for freedom, his narrative asserts that spirituality and
literary works produce its own liberty and identity in the world. From the inception
of this narrative, the reader learns quickly how Equiano plans to escape the bondage
of slavery. Part of the dehumanizing nature of slavery is to strip the slaves of their
natural identity and substitute it with a falsehood that can be controlled and render
them powerless. His autobiography shows us a slave who discovers how to obtain his
freedom through his own spiritual empowerment. In Equiano s introductory quote,
his engagement with the reader expresses his profound confidence in God. He attests
to his faith with Bibleverses from the book of Isaiah. One reads

effort. But why was it created? They say necessity is the mother of invention, when
in 2004 the dove company suffered from low sales, and corrupted crowd wanting
shallow over exaggerated beauty, dominated by ignorance, of what real beauty is
all about, so they wanted to reshape the definition of beauty, from a stereotype of
what a woman s look should be, to what real beauty is all about. Instead of
following the market, for standards in beauty traits, like full lips, small nose, wide
eyes, thin anatomy, to change these concepts into something entirely different, a
whole new perspective of beauty definition coming from being naturally beautiful,
like having freckles, being overweight, having wrinkles, accepting the differences
where the real beauty exists. A fresh, new perspective, or shall we say revolutionary
new definition, of a misunderstood meaning of beauty, using hardest method to do
while attempting to convince an audience, which is a social changing, for they
never used the word solve , instead they used the word change repetitively, because
dove s primary objective was the change. п‚· The campaign targeted middle aged
women, between the ages 40 55, not perfectly shaped models. They wanted to reach
as wide audience as they can in order to make women accept themselves even in
imperfection on one hand, and to improve their sales market the other hand. These
women have steady incomes, and can pay for products without
Analyzing Three Groups Of Advertisements Based On The...
After reading Which Ad Pulled Best , I am going to analysis three groups of
advertisements based on the criterions provide by the reading. The first one is
Example 19, an advertisement about Timex Watch. I think the second ad did a
better job than the first one. To start with, when I saw the second ad, I can easily
recognize the benefit the product offers compare to the first one. In the second ad,
it named out the benefit in the upper page, which is The Timer Turn Pill Alarm
Watch, More convenient than any excuse. When I read this heading, I can know
what unique feature that Timex offers that different from other watch makers. In
the middle of the page it uses three scenarios to show the alarm feature of this
watch. All three scenarios are very common in our everyday life. So when people
read this ad, they may think about themselves in that situation. And when I saw
this part of the ad, I know what message the advertiser what to convey when you
buy this watch, you can avoid all those situations and this watch will keep you be
on time for everything. When looking carefully, you will see there are some figures
teach you how to set the alarm. In this way, people can easily understand how to use
it. At the bottom of the page, there are a few sentences to further explain how to use
the alarm system and also introduce two more features, which are sound and light
flash. Also, this ad is advertised in People magazine, which is a general audience
weekly magazine, focusing on
Proposed New Tax Legislation Affecting Salary Sacrifice
Essay
Proposed New Tax Legislation Affecting Salary Sacrifice for the Provision of
Benefits in Kind
At the Budget 2016 the government announced that due to concerns over the rising
cost of salary sacrifice, it would consider limiting the range of benefits in kind (BIK)
that attract income tax and National Insurance Contributions (NIC) advantages when
provided as part of salary sacrifice arrangements. Following this Budget
announcement, on 10th August HMRC published a consultation document which
sets out a high level proposal for the future tax treatment of BIK offered via salary
sacrifice.
The consultation period will run from 10th August to 19th October, and during this
time Willis Towers Watson will be reviewing the proposals together with industry
bodies, as well as looking at what providers have to say, before responding to HMRC.
The proposal may be subject to change and/or clarification following the consultation
period. The government expects to make an announcement on decision made
following the consultation in the Autumn Statement 2016.
The proposed changes in summary
The main proposed change is to introduce new tax legislation from 6th April 2017
that will make a BIK provided through salary sacrifice chargeable to income tax and
Class 1A employer NIC, even if the BIK is normally exempt from tax and Class 1A
NIC. The BIK charge will be calculated as the greater of the salary sacrifice amount
or the cash equivalent.
The proposals specifically target salary sacrifice

  • 2. Andrew Carnegie, John Davison Rockefeller, and John... In the years following the Civil War, the American economy was suffering from extreme disorder. However, during the late 1800s and early 1900s, important leaders of American industry arose, essentially transforming the American financial system from chaos to efficiency. These powerful men shaped America into a world superpower and the country s economy sparked jealous across the globe. Their contributions to business positively affected not only the United States economy, but society as well. Andrew Carnegie, John Davison Rockefeller, and John Pierpont Morgan reflect the mammoth industrial age of America. Although some may argue these industrialists were robber barons, these men were, in reality, captains of industry utilizing modern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His goal was to spread efficiency and organization throughout every company he owned and operated. Through Rockefeller s efforts, the chaos of the oil industry was transformed into order and stability. His influence in this industry led to the creation of a myriad of products for the public which only bettered their ways of life. Similar to Carnegie, Rockefeller also fostered lower prices for oil, making light cheap and available to the public as the oil was mainly utilized in kerosene lamps. His Standard Oil Company served as precursor of America s economic success both at home and on an international level. Morgan, along with Carnegie and Rockefeller, worked to make the American economy organized and systematic. In fact, Morgan effectively bailed out the American financial system two times. At one point, the U.S. Treasury seemed on the brink of failure as it didn t have enough gold in reserve to meet its bills (27). J.P. Morgan provided the nation with $62 million, saving the American economy. Later on, the nation faced a financial problem, so destructive that it could have led to a depression. The situation was so horrific that a trust company nearly collapsed, which would have promoted widespread panic. Morgan convinced several of the nation s foremost financers to lend money in an effort to save the trust, in turn saving the country from a financial catastrophe. Morgan is also infamously known for creating successful companies from failing
  • 3. Romeo And Juliet Vs West Side Story Essay In the film West Side Story, there are two gangs, the Jets and the Sharks. Similar to the Montagues and Capulets of Romeo and Juliet, these gangs despise one another and fight consistently. West Side Story follows a similar plot as Romeo and Juliet, with a boy, Tony, and a girl, Maria, from opposite gangs falling in love with each other, despite disapproval from their friends and family. There even is another boy who is in love with Maria, and eventually, kills Tony. The recurring theme between these two films is that often times people believe that they have found their destiny, and give up everything in order to chase what they think is meant to be, but in the end, they just end up losing everything. This is evident in Romeo and Juliet because both Romeo and Juliet believe the other one is their true love, and they end up taking their own lives to be with each other, leaving behind their family and their lives. In West Side Story, this is evident because Maria and Tony believe they are meant to be together, and in the end Tony gets killed, leaving his family and friends behind. One thing the director of West Side Story changed about this adaptation is the end. In Romeo and Juliet, the lovers both die, but in West Side Story, only the boy dies. I ... Soon after a man walks in, named Doc, and stops the men from harassing Maria. When Doc walks in, the music that was previously playing was completely cut off. It was totally silent, except for the footsteps of Doc when he approached Maria and the men. This caused a very serious feeling to be created in the movie. Another movie technique the directors used was the appearance of the gang that harassed Maria. They had a paperboy type look, almost beggar like. To me, this creates the tone that they were dirty misogynists, and just bad
  • 4. Analysis Of Proslogion By Anselm Anselm, in his work Proslogion , attempts to answer the question Does God exist in reality? based on the reason and understanding, temporary excluding faith for the sake of argument. Anselm s ontological argument widely reflects the main themes of medieval philosophy of religion, which are compatibility between the divine attributes and theism in opposition to skepticism and naturalistic schemes. Arguing for the monotheism, in other words, existenceof the single God, the author actually assumes him to possess all the divine attributes. From here, one may already conclude that Anselm, calling God something than which nothing greater can be thought , might unite divine attributes in one image and therefore assert the possibility of coexistence
  • 5. The Theme Of Love In Valentine By Carol Ann Duffy Being in love is like an amalgamation of different yet powerful emotions exploding every second. It tends to heighten ones perception, hence, perceiving the world through a larger lens. It can cause a deep sense of grief at times but it can also make one feel a certain kind of content. The very exclusive one where the abundance of joy cannot be defined. Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy explores the many sides to love. The entire poem is an extended metaphor that criticizes the stereotypical idea of love. Duffy uses an onion, a very unusual object as a symbol to represent a gift for one s admirer. Duffy utilizes a plethora of different words ranging from positive to negative. She carefully picks them to warn the reader what your about to read isn t an ordinary love poem. The words careful and light introduced in the first stanza express delicacy and innocence. Love could explode at anytime yet remain stable. Duffy inserts direct, straightforward words such as here and take it to catch the reader s attention. These words are ended with a period giving an austere tone. The use of negative words such as blind, tears and grief illustrate an image of sorrow and misery creating an element of danger. Something quite uncommon for a poem entitled valentine . Here Duffy takes the reader to the unpleasant side of love that is often ignored in most love poems. She is conveying the true reality of being in love and not just the fantasized version of it. In the second half of the poem, Duffy chooses to use a more bold set of words such as fierce , possessive , lethal and faithful which contradict the words kiss , stay and lips which is more subtle and distinctive. The repetition of the word cling towards the end of the poem emphasizes that once your love is vanished the scent the memory will still live on, leaving an impression in your life, a permanent tattoo imprinted in your

  • 7. Compare And Contrast Essay On Public Vs Private School Everyone knows that private school is more expensive than public school, but has it ever occurred to you why it is like this? Private schools are not just trying to take your money, they are just trying to provide a quality education, without the government funding that public schools get. The tuition money goes to very important things; high quality teachers, better resources and the overall quality and stability of the institution. It is true that private schooltuition is expensive, but private schools have been proven to be more orderly and safe, have more engaged teachers, better equipped for religious and special needs, and students have better test scores and are better prepared for college and the rest of life. Private schools are known for setting high standards, engaging students, and sparking the desire to learn. If the standards are set high, the students will work hard to reach them. Private school students generally perform higher than public schoolstudents on standardized achievement tests. In the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), private school students scored well above the national average. (CAPE | Council for American Private Education. Requiring more courses for graduation may seem like a lot of work, but it
  • 8. The Theological Doctrine Of The Holy Trinity The Holy Trinity is, according to the Cambridge Dictionary of Philosophy, the theological doctrine that God consists of three persons (Audi, 928). Those persons are the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Each within the religion of Christianity are considered omnipotent and omniscient (IEP, URL). This theory validates the actions of the religion s savior JesusChrist, who as the Son of God(and part of the Holy Trinity) died a painful death of suffering for the sins of humans. This offers reasoning for the worship of different God s within the monotheistic religion. The concept of the Holy Trinity creates a paradoxical puzzle that many philosophers and theologians are still trying to explain to this day. However, during medieval times philosophers may have gone through greater lengths to explain the trinitarian view than any other era in philosophical history. The Catholic Church s council carries forth hearings relative to those of the United States judicial system, and has maintained this method since medieval times. However, during those times it was much easier to get charged for heresy, which caused a shared viewpoint in most of the writings of the time, based largely on the groundwork put forth initially by Saint Augustine of Hippo. This viewpoint, like many others that are somewhat misunderstood, morphed into what is written by those philosophers playing it safe , but still carry the essence of Augustine s primary influence, Plotinus.

  • 14. The Dangers Of Workers Rights During The 19th Century The industrialization period that took place during the 19th century brought forth a great deal of change for workers. Although these changes made for more efficient production, the workers also faced harsh work conditions, which were extremely dangerous as well as believed to be the cause of early deaths for some. These conditions included long work hours without breaks, exposure to pollution and new machinery, and the use of child labor. Fortunately, the critique of these harsh conditions led to improved conditions for workers and new laws protecting the worker rights. During the 19th centuryas industrialization was taking over many people were looking for work and waiting in long lines to obtain jobs in mills and factories. As a result, mill and factory owners, knowing this, took advantage of the workers that they hired and required them to work long hours for small wages. It was all too common for workers to work 12 hours, or more, daily in hot and uncomfortable environments. In addition to these long hours, the workers would not receive a break for lunch or to rehydrate their bodies. This led to exhaustion for workers and increased the danger of working in these mills and factories. Employers would run their business with strict discipline, in a prison manner, to enforce their workers to maintain their pace. Reformers, such as Robert Owen and Titus Salt, were employers known for looking after their workforce and the safety of the workers. These reformers were able

The need for adventures are gone and are now at the tips of their fingers or on a larger screen. Through the course of history and the collective memory of the people, a variety of narratives are formed; and while some last in the mainstream, other narratives fade into the background of the national and practiced culture. However, these narratives do not necessarily disappear, and some remain relatively strong in the mentalities of the public―even in times of legitimate and/or long lasting hegemonic values that stand in opposition. And since you only live in them for nine months before moving on, it can feel pointless to spend any real time decorating your space. While dorms have all sorts of restrictions that prevent you from going wild with your dГ©cor, it is possible to decorate your dorm room with style that goes beyond a few random posters on the wall. Follow these simple tips and ideas to infuse your dorm room with style and enjoy your school year. Choose a ColorPalette In college, it s easy to decorate your dorm room as you go, collecting an array of pieces that don t really add up to much of anything. To give your dorm room a cohesive look, choose a color palette that you love and use it as a guide when choosing accessories. If you don t have a favorite hue, think of your favorite places or moods. Deep blues and greens can invoke the sea and promote calm, while reds and oranges invite a spicy flair that can awake and excite you. Don t go overboard in your color scheme, however, or you may start to feel closed in rather than enjoy it. Organize your dorm room around one or two main colors and accessorize in smaller ways with accent colors. Key pieces in your dorm room you can decorate are the bedding, desk chair, lamp, clock, or even some accessory pieces on a desk or shelf. Be sure to inject splashes of a complimentary color within the room to keep it from feeling too one note.

These changes had a tremendous effect in the discipline. Political philosophy continued to progress which affected both political theory and political science. It seems that with the progression of political philosophy, there was a growing need for the the discipline to become more scientific. They wanted it to be based on facts, to become value free and to be precise. Political philosophystarted veering away from the classics. Despite the continuous need to be scientific, there were still groups which remained inclined to the classics and believed that the traditions and values are essential in studying the discipline. These conflicting views concerning the traditionalists and the behavioralists caused the gap between political philosophy and political scienceand eventually the two separated. So it seems that as political philosophy progress, political science branched outside the academe and political theory, as it grew larger became more and more alienated. He was correct in saying this because the young people of today will become the world leaders of tomorrow. When deciding upon a philosophy of education, I was torn between two: Progressivism and Essentialism. The first being that the student, who does not quite understand, can have a peer s assistance. The second is so that the student who already knows the material won t get bored while the other students catch up. By allowing this type of group learning, I will be encouraging the students to help each other. They will also learn to work well together (a skill needed in today s world). My education time will not be wasted on discipline problems. If I have a student who is being disruptive, I do not plan on calling attention to their misbehavior. I will simply place their name on the board. After their name is on the board, if they continue to be disruptive, he or she will be quietly separated from the other students until they can behave properly. I do not want the children to form the idea that they can receive more attention by misbehaving. I want them to strive to be attentive, well behaved children. This behavior will be encouraged by praising the children when they are being good, rather than constantly calling attention away from the lesson to instruct a student to behave. In conclusion, I would like to summarize the main ideas of my philosophy. The first idea is my desire to incorporate my two philosophies into one curriculum. Blood in the Hills: The Story of Khe Sahn, the Most Savage Fight of the Vietnam War, written by Robert Maras, with the assistance of Charles W. Sasser, tells the story of Maras, a Vietnam veteran, and his experiences during the war. From his combat landing on Red Beach, to his departure from the Demilitarized Zone, also known as the DMZ, Robert Maras describes in great detail the joys and sorrows of his time in Vietnam. The book also exhibits the development of the average Marine, and the mental and physical toll the fighting at Khe Sanhtakes on each individual. Throughout the memoir, the warrior creed of Semper Fidelis is repeated an abundance of times, meaning always faithful, and symbolizing the US Marine Corps determination to fight for their beloved country (Maras 3). This saying was especially influential during the times Bob Maras was subjected to viewing his comrades perish before him, as he could only hope he would survive the countless battles in the jungle terrain of Khe Sanh. Blood in the Hills is a powerful read for those engrossed with not only the corporeal aspect of war, but fascinated in learning about warfare from a psychological perspective. Critically speaking, the authors are somewhat qualified to discuss the topic at hand, but Maras, the protagonist, is by no means a professional historian on the Vietnam War. In fact, the same

In the Crucible, a play written by Arthur Miller, is both an allegory and tragedy where the Puritan society of Salem is attacked with the hysteria of witchcraft. It all started with five young girls of the Salem society caught dancing naked around a bonfire. This practice is viewed upon by the Puritans as the task of the devil. In the beginning of the play, there was controversy about ownership of land between some of the villagers. Later in the story, people feared for their own safety and begin pointing fingers and accusing their neighbors of witchcraft in order to escape being hanged. This caused the society to get more and more separated as time went on. This emphasizes the idea of how fearand suspicion can destroy a society due to accusations, roundups, and forced confessions. Miller captures the evil of paranoia and fear in his play through emotions by letting them shine through his characters to make the audience feel the tension, the angst and the desperation throughout the play. Arthur Miller includes a large number of logical fallacies such as scare tactic and slippery slope in order to emphasize the evil or paranoia and fear in his play through emotions of the characters. It was this complex social structure that allowed Jewish members of society to both able to maintain a separate identity during the Middle Ages through their sacred time, communal ties, literacy, and family ties, while still being acculturated into the society in which they lived. In Jewish culture, the Sabbath, or the day of rest is on Saturday, rather than Sunday like the Christians or Friday like their Muslim counterparts. By having a separate day entirely from their peers, the Sabbath publically demonstrated their separation of beliefs from those around them. The separate days of rest indicate the difference between the religions and thus create a separate identity for Jews because they have an entirely different day of worship. Moreover, in addition to the actual separation of days, the Sabbath sought to create a Jewish identity because the Sabbath immersed the Jewish people in a full day of worship and ritual based activities. For instance, leading up to Sabbath men and women had to partake in certain duties in order to prepare for the holy day of the week. Men and women were supposed to partake in ritual bathing before entering the synagogue, they were meant to read the Torah, and women were meant to light the candles (nerot) and make the challah bread for the Sabbath meal. The Sabbath meals were generally made by the wife or women of the home and eaten on Friday nights before the Sabbath day. At these meals, the family would thank God for the food at hand and remember that even though the temple was gone, that they were continuing Gods good work. Typically, the Sabbath meals were meant to have challah bread, wine, and meat if the family could afford it because the Sabbath meals were meant to be a good meal. These meals especially played a role in the creation of a separate Jewish identity because psychologically they reaffirmed to Jews that in this moment they were elite. No matter what had happened the week prior or what was about to happen in the week to come, the Sabbath meals offer a feeling of strength because it gathers those who love each other to break bread and unify together through their religion. Conflict Between Narcissism And Aggression Essay Correspondingly, the propaganda of both Croats and Serbs indulged their populations to believe that each side was responsible for their suffering. Further there is a psychological dimension of the ethnic nationalism that is centered around peoples perceptions when questioning their identity. Conflict is a process driven by collective needs and fears that comes from a psychological aspect. Psychology drives attitudes and behaviours of individuals and groups. Using Freud s analysis, Ignatieff focuses our attention on the relationship between narcissism and aggression. Narcissism is a personality trait that involves arrogant behavior, a lack of empathy for other people, and a need for self admiration. Ignatieff exploration of Freud s analysis conduces him to the assumption that nationalism and narcissism are two allied expressions. He says: A nationalist takes the neutral facts about people their language, habit, culture, tradition, and history and turns these facts into a narrative, whose purpose is to illuminate the self consciousness of a group, to enable them to think of themselves as a nation with a claim to self determination. A nationalist, in other words, takes minor differences indifferent in themselves and transforms them into major differences (45). This passage shows that nationalism is a sort of narcissism. Yugoslavs nationalists wanted a nation where all walks of people in Yugoslavia could live together as one single group. They neglected minor differences

Brick House Connor With vivid descriptions of a Brick House and its surroundings, the excerpt of the novel A Bird in the House written by Margaret Laurence unveils an inevitable truth: people cannot be psychologically confined. In the end, an individual s desire and acknowledgement of freedom prevails over the confining external power until the psychological boundary that restrains their independence becomes frail and insubstantial. Through the use of symbolism and imagery, Margaret Laurence explores Grandfather Connor s failure in successfully protecting his family due to his restricting nature. By examining the works of Much Ado about Nothing, Dr. Horribles Sing Along Blog, and Candide we can see that only through comedy do we make ourselves the superiors of absurdity and therefore we need tragedy to keep the balance between laughter and torment sustainable.
