Mean Girls By Cady Heron
An adolescent is a young person who is the in the process of forming from a child into an adult.
The formation can result in physical changes, sexuality, a sense of self direction, and more.
During the movie Mean Girls a female adolescent by the name of Cady Heron who recently just
relocated to a new school and is put in a position where she must change her behavior, physical
features, and self direction to fit in with a popular group in school. Although Cady made friends
quite fast, it is her new friends that are persuading her to make these changes all to sabotage the
popular girls in school. Just like most adolescents do, Cady gets too far in over her head and
catches herself turning into one of the popular girls and quickly begins to act out. A change in
behavior can also be one of the biggest and noticeable changes that is made during the adolescent
stage.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main point in his theory is that behavior is learned from the environment and the process of
observations. By this he means that adolescents are learning behavioral ways just by observing
their surroundings. Many individuals are influenced by family members and peer groups and
this theory really explains Heron in the movie because before moving to the new school, she
was raised in Africa around respectful family members and kind people. Heron quickly learned
that respecting your peers and doing your best in school work was the correct way to behave as
that is what she watched all her peers do in Africa. Although you can learn respectful ways by
viewing others actions, it can also cause an adolescent to act out in a worse

How Does Stalin Deserve The Great Purges
During the 1930 s, Stalin ordered large scale purges, targeting anyone who displayed even the
slightest sign of being a threat to the government. The government was able to identify these
people through family members or close friends who informed on them. With this, people no
longer expressed their true opinions and instead conformed with the government s ideas in fear of
persecution ( Purges and Praises ). About 20 million people that were suspected of performing
anti Soviet activities were executed, sent to Gulag labor camps, or forced them to take part in a
show trial, where they would be forced plead guilty publicly to inconceivable crimes that they had
never committed (Gracheva). Many officials and military leaders were also executed after being
convicted of treason. It is estimated that one thirds of the Communist Party s three million members
were put to death during the Great Purge. However, the traces of the people that were murdered
were eliminated after the government rewrote history books and doctored photographs to exclude
them. Additionally, members of the NKVD, the Soviet secret police, were killed at the end of the
Great Purges, so that the people that had known too much about this event would be eliminated.
In order for the Soviet government to unify its citizens, it had to overcome the vast cultural
differences that were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an autocratic ruler, Stalin aimed to consolidate power and eliminate opposition. Stalin and the
state seized total control of the media: dictating what people say, read, and heard. Those who
attempted to do otherwise were imprisoned or sent to labor camps( Joseph Stalin ). Under the rule
of Stalin, there was no religious freedom. Churches were shut down and church leaders were
arrested or executed. The reasoning behind this was that anyone who worshipped God was a
challenge to those who worshipped Stalin through his personality cult

WATCHMEN REFLECTION
The novel watchmen is a fiction work written by Moore A. The novel is fiction based on the reality
happening in America in the 1980 s thus the author draws his inspiration from real world to create a
captivating novel.From the title of the book, the writer hints on what to expect inside the book;
watchmen. Watchmen refers to a group of super heroes believed to have super human powers that
enable them to do supernatural things. One of the superheroes actually possesses super human
powers which give his country America superiority over other rival countries. The goal of the

destruction and deaths in New York. In the meantime other gang members are still trying to unravel
the mysterious murders of their own. The probe leads Nite Owl and Rorschach to discover that one
of their own members, Veidt, was behind in the mysterious deaths (Moore 2014). Veidt admits to
the accusation but tries to justify his action by explaining his plan to stop the impending nuclear
war between America and Soviet Union. Through his lab creations he was able to fake alien
invasion in New York thus diverting the attention of the people towards the new entry. Rorschach

Roger waters, band member of Pink Floyd, wrote almost the entire album of The
wall , one of Pink Floyd s most popular albums, a top three sellers, with over 23 million
records sold. He was the singer, songwriter and bassist for Pink Floyd. David Gilmour
wrote the music while he was working on a solo album in 1978. He brought it to The
Wall album sessions and Waters wrote lyrics for it. Gilmour believed that the song,
comfortably numb could be divided into 2 sections: Dark and light. The light parts that
begin When I was a child, which Gilmour sings, the dark parts are, hello is there
anybody in there? parts, which are sung by Roger Waters.
The movie, The wall, was released in 1982. It s shown as one huge music
video, for each song. One of the movie s scenes depicts the song, comfortably numb ,
and is known to be one of the most important songs to the album The Wall. The song
signifies a huge part in Pink s life, showing how the events that happened to the band
member s impacted their lives, including many of Roger Water s real life struggles.
Pink is the character of the band members and Roger Waters himself. The song starts

Pink is experiencing. Pink is shown sitting in a recliner, with an expressionless face,

The New York Times For Being By Mary Oliver
Acknowledged by The New York Times for being this country s best selling poet Mary Oliver
was born in Maple Heights, Ohio. Publishing her first book of poetry, No Voyage and Other
Poetry, in 1963 at the age of 28 she was able to begin her lustrous career which continued as she
published several more series, one of them being the Pulitzer Prize winner, American Primitive.
Critic Alicia Ostriker numbered Oliver among America s finest poets, as visionary as Ralph
Waldo Emerson. As a youth Mary Oliver did not have the ideal childhood most kids desire for.
With an abusive father and an absent mother, Mary began to idolize different female poets like
Edna St. Vincent Millay. This lead Oliver to develop a love for poetry. As time passed, Oliver
began to form a bond with nature as a coping method to escape her father s brutality which
eventually let her to forgive her parents for stealing her childhood from her. Soon Mary was able
to transform her unhealthy emotions into love and passion for nature in her writing as she is
known for her poignant observation and evocative use of the natural world in her poems.
Through the her poems, Oliver really is able to connect with the readers with her descriptive
writing . Poet Vicki Graham explains that over and over the speaker of Oliver s poems reminds
herself to look, to touch, to see, and to smell. Only by yielding to her senses can she get close to

Write An Essay About Roseanne Zampino
In life, we learn new things every single day. We learn from people, places, and most importantly
we learn from our experiences. The older we get, the more time we have to learn from impactful
people, life altering experiences, and today s ever changing society.
My great Aunt Roseanne Zampino is 68 years old and has met her fair share of impactful people.
While talking to her, I learned who inspired her most of all. In 2003, Roseanne s 30 year old son
died, leaving behind a wife and three young girls. Roseanne told that even though her daughter in

Ethical Lenses Of Law And Ethics Essay
Every decision can be justified to support the reasoning for the cause of cause of behaviour.
Through the lenses of law and ethics, the case of Tri Star and the conduct of the president
presents a dilemma between what is legal, and what is morally acceptable. In consideration of
the ethical aspects of the case, the president did not oblige to promoting the greater good and
avoiding bad consequences for all. Although the president attempted to create a favourable
outcome for herself and Tri Star employees, it jeopardized the well being of consumers for the
millions of people who would use the cell phone every day. Even if a better, and lasting battery is
beneficial to society, the risk of exploding cell phones, especially in proximity to fuel may lead to
economic and social catastrophe.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, according to the tort of negligence, the president, representative of Tri Star, had the duty
to care about the safety of consumers and oblige to a standard in manufacturing hazardous free
cellular phone. Since the risk of batteries heating up through use, and unstable liquid composition,
the dangers associated with not testing batteries is reasonably foreseeable. Furthermore, Tri Star
had a product liability to prevent careless manufacturing processes and necessitate precautions and
warnings about the cell phone to be communicated to consumers. The final premise in determining
negligence is causation of harm. Undoubtedly, the defects of overheating and explosions did cause
harm to users of the new phone both physically, and emotionally. Although the established
procedure is voluntarily implemented by Tri Star, legally, the president and the company must
dutifully ensure that products are safe for consumers. As a result, the president s decision to skip
the safety test for the batteries is regarded as

Objections to Descartes’ Interactionism
In the following essay I will be offering some objections to Descartes interactionism as is primarily
represented in his works The Passions of the Soul, Part I and Correspondence with
Princess Elisabeth, Concerning the Union of Mind and Body. I will start by describing the basic
features of how Descartes notion of interactionism works. Namely, that the pineal gland is the
principle seat of the mind because it is the only singular part of the brain. The pineal gland also has
a range of movements, which correspond to the body and to the soul to the capacity that it can be
thrusted by either the soul or the animal spirits. After describing Descartes interactionism, I will
offer three objections that I view to provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When it comes to Descartes reply, in the Passions of the Soul he uses the word impulse when
describing the movements of the pineal gland and gives the impression that many of these impulses
would be very slight and thus unnoticeable due to the fact that they only occur if the opposite
impulse
(from either the soul or the animal spirits) is stronger than itself (Passions, 366). This leads me to
believe he would respond to the first objection by saying something to the effect of the movements
or impulses being so small they are undetectable (at least by the technology available to him).
My second objection applies to the plausibility of a causal interaction between an immaterial
soul and a material brain under the currently accepted laws of physics and more specifically of
the law of the conservation of energy. As it is understood, energy is neither created nor
destroyed. If this is the case, when the immaterial mind causally interacts with the material pineal
gland, where does this energy come from? This energy is not simply created for that would be
against the laws of physics. If it is not created though, it must be coming from somewhere and is
likely being stored in a similar place. The answer does not occur to me to describe where an
immaterial mind would store its energy so as to causally interact with a material brain.
Descartes possible reply to this might come from The Passions of the Soul in where he describes
the soul as being

Coretta Scott King Jr Influence
Martin Luther King Jr was a famous Civil Rights leader, and widely known for his I have a

also very active in building her own career in activism of her own rights. Working hand in hand
alongside her husband, they both continued to persuade the people and grab the attention of
millions across the nation. Just as biography.com stated Among many roles, she worked as a

This woman was influential in so many ways. Through her speeches, work, making it known

Reflective Essay On Hispanic Food
When first beginning this assignment, I thought of choosing Vietnamese food because I miss
having Vietnamese food for most of my meals, which was a luxury when I lived at home with
my parents. Also, I have not fully prepared a Vietnamese dish or meal myself, as cooking never
appealed to me. However, as I thought more about it, I would just be returning to the comforts of
what I had already known instead of challenging myself and expanding my experiences.
Eventually, I decided to pursue learning more about the Hispanic food culture because I greatly
enjoy Hispanic food, whether it is Americanized Hispanic foods such as burritos or enchiladas
from restaurants like Taco Bell or La Paz, or traditional, authentic foods I have had at my
Hispanic friends houses. I love exploring the infinite variety of ethnic dishes this world has to
offer, but I do not pay much attention exactly to what I am eating, what is in it, and how to
prepare it myself. This assignment gave me the opportunity to go out and adventure into
Guerrero s Market on 11th and G street. I brought David with me, a friend from Honduras who
has exposed me to most of the authentic hispanic foods I have eaten. I decided to make ceviche,
and the two ethnic ingredients not used in mainstream American cuisine I selected were avocados
and tostadas. When I first arrived at Guerrero s Market, it reminded me of the haymarket in the
sense that it was made of brick, and it was old and small. In all its age, it

Death of the General in O’Connor’s A Late Encounter with...
Death of the General in O Connor s A Late Encounter with the Enemy
I did an analysis of the paragraph where the General passes away (page 143 in my edition of The
Complete Stories of Flannery O Connor) The most obvious thing about this paragraph is that is that
the General s death is portrayed as death during battle. The title The Late Encounter with the Enemy
is very appropriate because the general views his death as such.
The most obvious thing about this paragraph is that it is like a battle. Words are used as bullets in
this paragraph. For example, He couldn t protect himself from the words and attend to the
procession too and the words were coming at him fast. (143) makes it really seem like a battle.
Since he was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example words such as Chickamauga, Shiloh, and Marthasville are present. Interestingly
enough the General mentions in the prior paragraph that he heard the words Chickamauga, Shiloh,
Johnston, and Lee, and that he knew that these words that he was inspiring meant nothing to him.
These words ended up stirring up the picture in his mind at the time of his death. Even when he
returns to those words at the time of his death, he still seems confused. When this occurs, the
general thinks; then a succession of places Chickamauga, Shiloh, and Marthasville rushed at him
as if the past were the only future now and he had to endure it. (142) This seems to be the moment
that the General finally faces his past. The words dealing with his past could be viewed as soldiers
in a battle. He keeps running away from them until he finally faces them.
Perhaps the General s distaste for history has something to do with a very traumatic experience
during the Civil War (not to mention senility) Right before the General passes away he thinks to
himself, The suddenly he saw that the black procession was almost on him. He recognized it, for
he had been dogging it all his days. Perhaps the mention of battles brought out a hidden fear
within him. The thing that he has been dogging for all his days may possibly be death (especially
since his is so old). In the general s mind it seems that what caused his death was that his entire past

A Few South Africans By Sue Williamson Essay
A Few South Africans is a series of works by Sue Williamson that truly interested me. This
prominent South African English artist, known for her politically and societally questioning
artworks, investigates the natural strength of black South African women, and how they were
oppressed during this period. In this essay, I will attempt to understand the situation of South Africa
s past and in turn its present with the help of her references and her work. The main theme of
Williamson s piece is female activism and freedom of expression during a time of conflict in their
country. It attempts to show how all women were affected by apartheid. The motives for wanting a
fairer society based on equal distribution of wealth and power between different races shouldn t be
a tricky idea to understand. To explain is simple. To change is much harder.
Nevertheless, Williamson attempts to answer these questions. In some ways we can empathise,
because our society has been through a similar struggle for the recognition of women in society,
namely the Suffragette Movement. This struggle for the vote took 110 years and true parity is
ongoing. The women in Williamson s work were all important in developing the limited freedom
of black South Africans today. Compared to their white brothers and sisters, Black South Africans
still only own 30% of all land in South Africa. Sue Williamson highlights the work of trailblazers
like Winnie Mandela (left). Also featured is Albertina Sisulu, a

Tort Law Reform And The Law Of Negligence
Introduction
A Tort is a legal construct and is not to be confused with a wrong in the general sense. It only
exists where the law exists The question is, Where there is no debate or argument that a duty of
care is owed to customers, public, employees where possibility of a risk may occur, that the scope
of liability in the tort of negligence or breach of duty.
In 2002, a Review of the Law of Negligence in Australia conducted by panel and chaired by the
Honourable David Ipp (known as the IPP Report) and the Recommendation 28 of the Standard of
Care and Breach of Duty and Remedies/ Damages. As Stuart and Clark summarise, there has been
major hurdles across the country and codifying common law in the NT would be fruitless. Tort Law
Reform. While the tort law reform process has been identified above as a driver in the move to
class actions, the system of reform undertaken at both federal and state levels has had a number of
important outcomes, namely reform to the law of negligence. Amendments to limitation periods,
and the capping, or extinguishing, of certain heads of damage.
Definition of Duty of Care , and Standard of Care:
A Duty of Care An Obligation imposed on a person to take reasonable care to ensure that they do

In the past, there have been several shootings in schools across the nation. However, the students

themselves from harm by having their firearms; still other people are raising their eyebrows. On
the other hand, there are other people who think carrying concealed weapons on campuses will

is by far the worst incident on a college campus this year (qtd. in Sanburn). Therefore,

With the train industry growing the need for bigger trains and freight cars were a must and James
J. Hill builder of the Great Northern Railroad he made this happen building trains 4 times the size
of the old ones. They used a super heated steam system that made Elijah McCoy s first patent of the
lubricating system not compatible with these newer trains. These trains were lubricated with a
mix of oil and powdered graphite so that the trains parts could be lubricated properly. The
problem with Elijah s first patent is that with the new mix of graphite the lubricator would clog
up. This all changed in April of 1915 when he received a patent for a new and improved
lubricator in which he called Locomotive Lubricator with this patent he stated that it permitted the
use of graphite without clogging. Hayden Cites a railroad superintendent states We have found
the McCoy Graphite Lubricator to be of considerable assistance in lubrication of locomotives
equipped with superheaters. There is a decided advantage in better lubrication and reduction of
wear in valves and piston rings, and as a well lubricated engine is more economical in the use of
fuel, there is unquestionably a saving in fuel. When Elijah McCoy was younger his parents ran
away from the United States using the underground railroad due to racism and them being slaves.

Jacobo Arbenz And Guatemala
It was on March 12, 1947, the beginnings of the Cold War between major world powers, the
democratic US and the communist USSR, when President Harry S. Truman announced his famous
Truman Doctrine before a joint session of congress. In his doctrine, Truman states the importance it
is for the United Sates to become involved in assisting other countries with political, military, and
economic aid to all democratic nations under any kind of communist threat. He also states that the
reason countries become communist is because they had the totalitarian regimes forced upon them
against their will (Truman, Harry S.); therefore, in order for that not to happen, the US would

plans, the CIA planned on using a psychological warfare operation, an invasion of the country led
by Colonel Castillo Armas and to campaign to coerce Guatemalan military officers into sticking

Comparing The Raven And Incident In A Rose Garden
Death is something that at some point will come to each of us and has been explored in many
forms of literature. The Raven and Incident in a Rose Garden are two poems that explore
common beliefs and misconceptions about death. Though both poems differ in setting, tone, and
mood there are surprising similarities in the literary tools they use and in the messages they
attempt to convey. The setting and mood establish the tone and feel of a poem. In The Raven we
are launched into a bleak and dreary winters night where a depressed narrator pines for his dead
girlfriend. In Incident in a Rose Garden we are cast into a garden on a bright summers day where
the frightened gardener seeks to flee deathto be with his living family. It is hard to come up with
two more different settings. Consider the bleak and dreary winter night versus the walk in the
sunny summer flower garden. There are also two completely different moods, one glum and
morose and the other excited and frantic. Symbolism is a literary tool that is commonly used to
convey ideas. Both poems use symbolism throughout their text. Incident in a Rose Garden uses a

In the garden, Death explains how he became a friend to the father of the estate owner. Most
people fear the uncertainty and unknown things about death. As the poem progresses we can see
a change from fear to understanding that brings about a peace with death. In The Raven there is a
scene where the raven is perched on the bust of Pallas, which represents wisdom. My thought of
this is to recall just what it is that birds do when they are perched on statues. This imagery makes
me think that sometimes we need to disregard conventional wisdom and seek our own
understanding. Both poems in their own ways are urging us to open our minds and to find ways to

Industrial Revolution Vs Second Industrialization
First, the Industrial Revolution effectively expanded the United States. Without the Industrial
Revolution, railroads would not have come to exist to the extent that they did. Industrialization
allowed the production of huge quantities of rails and of rolling stock to go on those rails. When
railroads spread out across the US, eventually reaching the Pacific, the country s size effectively
increased. Goods from one part of the country could easily be brought to other parts of the country.
This was such an important step in creating a wonderful country.
Second, the Industrial Revolution made cities larger and more important. Before industrialization,
cities had been important as transportation hubs, but had not been major economic engines. During
the Industrial Revolution, cities grew as factories grew faster and attracted workers. The cities also
became more important to the economy because they were the site at which valuable goods were
being produced.

South Africa s New Secrecy Bill Putting Country s...
South Africa is recognised internationally as a country passionate about upholding its democracy.
Last year however, the National Assembly decided to pass a condemned Secrecy Bill, two days
prior to Freedom Day, despite citizen s disapprovals. Was the event a mere coincidence or is our
country s democracy at stake?
The Secrecy Bill, formally known as the Protection of State Information Act, was introduced to
replace the apartheid era legislation. It is supposedly an improved legislation which serves to
protect sensitive or classified state information against unnecessary disclosure and destruction. It
has been noted by the media and even President Jacob Zuma himself that the Bill has some grey
areas where national interest remains too vague a reason for keeping information classified.
Furthermore, the Secrecy Bill restricts the media s access to government information, offering hefty
jail sentences to those who leak the secrets withheld by government. Is that a procedure to protect
the state of corruption in our country, or is it to protect the State itself?
As far as I am concerned, the Secrecy Bill acts against our constitutional rights. The South African
Constitution states that: Everyone has the right of access to any information held by the state.
Along with this, the Bill acts against the right to freedom of speech, as the media can no longer
publish articles freely. This means that journalists will no longer be able to investigate issues of
fraud, theft and

Sediment Contamination
Sediments are formed from fine grained waste material due to erosion from the mine site. It often
contains dissolved metals as a result of the mining processes containing some toxic constituents
such as lead and high levels of mercury. During severe storm events and high snowmelt periods,
erosion transports a significant amount of sediments and chemicals pollutants into locals streams.
Dissolved metals often settle under the stream bed and cause decreases in macroinvertebrate and
benthic invertebrate populations. Metal accumulation in aquatic organisms, particularly benthic
species, can also lead to acute and chronic toxicity to aquatic life [EPA 35]. In addition, research
has shown a correlation between an increase in suspended solids with a decrease in density of
macroinvertebrate and benthic invertebrate populations. High turbidity can also reduce passages of
light and prevent photosynthetic activity of aquatic plants [EPA 34 35]. Aquatic plants are a major
food source for macroinvertebrates and benthic invertebrates. The reduction of plants can stimulate
further declines in aquatic life populations.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Metals that settle in the stream bed can be transported by bioaccumulation. If contaminated fish is
consumed, metals may be transferred to humans and impact their physical health. Human are
exposed to the toxic metals by drinking water contaminated by sediments [EPA 35]. In addition to
potential impacts on human and aquatic life, sedimentation can also physically impact the
hydraulic system. Physical impact associated with mining includes the filling of deep pools that
can result in the loss of habitat and temperature increases [EPA 35]. Excess sediment can build up
behind dams and raise reservoir water levels. In addition to this, sedimentation can also cause the
channel to widen and become shallower. Thus, increasing the frequency of overbank flow [EPA

Reservation Blues Essay
Reservation Blues by Sherman Alexie continually forces you to think about the concept of
Americanization, more specifically of the Native Americans. Sherman Alexie used forms of racial
loathing in presenting how Native Americans handle the Americanization process.
In Reservation Blues, a group of Native Americans formed a band called Coyote Springs and
struggle to integrate themselves into mainstream American society. Their talents are overshadowed
by their inability to be accepted as Indians. While none of the band members exhibit any outright
hatred for their race, Victor and Junior do illustrate resentment for traditional Indian customs. Their
attitude concerning their identity does border self hate.
Whereas the other band members, Chess and Thomas embrace the tradition of storytelling, Victor
and Junior despise it. Storytelling was a rich tradition among all Native Americans. This is how
stories were passed down from generation to generation, through oral tradition. The stories passed
down were ways of recording the history, culture, and beliefs of Native American tribes. In her

History Research Paper on Meditation
May I be well and happy. May I be peaceful and calm. May I be protected from dangers. May my
mind be free from hatred. May my heart be filled with love. May I be well and happy. (1)
Meditation is a powerful tool that can be used by anyone regardless race, gender, social standing,
religion, and intelligence. It s a unifying practice. Meditation is a conscious effort to change how the
mind works for better understanding the world and yourself. Throughout history into present day
times, meditation is used as a key to unlock hidden areas of our subconscious mind, providing us
with answers about the meaning of life.
Meditation is believed to have had early traces all the way back in prehistoric to times, where some
religions involved rhythmic clapping and chants called Mantras. Some researches also believe that
primitive hunter gathering societies quite possibly could have discovered the different states of
consciousness while staring at fires that were used in many rituals that they had. Eventually these
simple rituals evolved into a practise that was not much more complicated to use on a daily basis.
An important source for records of meditation are the Upanishads, which are texts that discuss
meditation, philosophy and spiritual knowledge. Meditative traditions were included in the Vedas
for the Hindu religion but also had ties to Buddhism. Although mediation was happening before the
time of the Buddha, Siddhartha

Gender Roles In J. B. Priestley s An Inspector Calls
An Inspector Calls was written by J. B. Priestley in 1945, and was set in 1912. One of the main
themes throughout the play is the theme of responsibility, and the consequences of our actions.
Another important theme in the play is of the contrast between the younger and older generations,
which again links into responsibility, as the younger generation are willing to accept responsibility
for what they have done wrong, whereas the older generation are not.
In the beginning of the play, we get the idea that Sheila may be slightly naГЇve, as she is still
young, and we see her and her mother, Mrs Birling, following the typical gender roles of women in
1912, especially those of the upper class. However, as the play progresses, we begin to see ... Show

responding to Sheila s comment with Rubbish! . This is the first example we see of the
differences between the younger and older generations, as Sheila can see how Mr Birling could
be at fault, whereas he is denying any responsibility, and insists it was all Eva Smith s own fault.
The fact that Sheila is portrayed as a naГЇve child at first, but then begins to understand how her
father could ve impacted Eva Smith s life demonstrates Priestley s idea that the younger generation
are also more open to change, and to accepting what they have done

The characters in the play of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare use their strengths to their
advantage but also cause trouble with their weaknesses. Throughout the play, Shakespeare
indirectly characterizes Romeo, Juliet, and Mercutiothrough their actions. Therefore, Shakespeare
creates multidimensional characters that have both strengths and weaknesses.
One of the most important characters, Romeo, has many strengths and weaknesses. One of his

College Accreditation
Pam: Are Online Master of Accounting Degrees Accredited?
Prospective finance students may be interested in pursuing an accredited Online Master of
Accounting. While an online education offers affordable flexibility, some students still worry about
the accreditation quality of their online program. Read on to learn about college accreditation for
accounting degrees.
Why Does Accreditation Matter?
College accreditation refers to the voluntary review of educational programs by independent
organizations in order to verify the school s academic quality and consistency. Colleges that
maintain accreditation from prestigious accrediting agencies demonstrate that their institution
continually maintains the highest learning standards. On the other hand, accreditation is also
important because it helps determine the college s eligibility for federal Title IV assistance, state
financial aid programs and employer tuition assistance programs. Additionally, recognized
accreditation is an essential requirement for graduate programs, college credit transfers and
professional licensure, such as an accounting CPA credential.

How The Consumerism Of Buying Changes One s Attitude...
In the United States, companies have created the average American to be a consumer. However, the
consumerism mentality that most Americans have is akin to Godzilla. Rampaging on deals and the
opportunity to take what they think is rightfully theirs. My aim for this project was to discuss how
the consumerism of buying changes one s attitude towards others, ourselves, and our behavior of
responsibility.
Behavior of Others
The Christmas season is upon us, and an event that is always relevant to discuss is Black Friday
. This year, I went pre Black Friday shopping on the night of Thanksgiving before 10 pm. I went
to the Wal Mart, near my home, and I was alarmed; so many people clustered into the same
location of the store hoping to get decent DVDs for $1. I have heard enough horror stories to
know that the nickname Black Friday doesn t always mean good standing for economic numbers. I
then went to Target and The Castle Rock Outlet Mall. When I was at Kohls, I had a strange feeling
of consumption, as there were humorous Christmas shirts for $4.99. Consumerism doesn t just
affect how we treat other people; it also affects how we feel. I felt that certain locations that differ
from socioeconomic standing, effects interaction. At stores where merchandise costs more, there
tends to be more friendly engagement; it felt significantly less hostile.

The rulers of this country have always considered their property more important than our lives.
They call us murderers, but we were not responsible for the twenty eight brother inmates and nine

that the police are blaming the murders as a community fight or placing the blame on an African

that African Americans were blamed for murders that they did not commit. To further push her

Remote or rural regions lacking electricity supply face a lot of challenges for them to get
connected to Electricity. They may lie at a reasonable distance from national or regional electricity
grids (remote villages in the Amazon) and may have difficulties in getting connected to Electricity
(far from urban centers with a difficult terrain such as large rivers or jungles). Naturally they may
suffer harsh climatic conditions that render electrification through grid extension a perilous task .
In adding to these challenges, the rural poor areas without access to electricity either spend
relatively large amounts of their scarce financial resources on energy, or a disproportionate amount
of time collecting firewood from the jungle or also lead to depletion of natural resources.
Rural electrification can have a positive impact on social and economic development in the

changes or social/economic development at the village level as well as at the household level. At

Congress Enacted Title Vii Of The Civil Rights Act
Congress enacted Title VII of the Civil Rights Act to ensure that all people who are seeking
employment will not be discriminated against regardless of their race, national origin, color sex,
or religious beliefs. In the four given examples of casting calls, it would seem that disparate
treatment discrimination was blatant in the both the wording and premise of the casting notices.
Since it seems to be common practice for agencies to create casting notices that openly call for
certain races or colors of people, it would seem that any person who wasn t hired for a certain part
could file action with The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission(EEOC) and have their case
investigated, or be given a right to sue order that could possibly change the employment practices of
the entertainment industry.
Discrimination appears to be prevalent throughout all four of the casting scenarios. Based on the
fact that all roles were gender specific, the Title VII laws stating that a person cannot be
discriminated based on sex was violated in each of the four scenarios. Moreover, the first and
third casting calls also show further disparate treatment towards applicants due to the racial and
religious qualities that are required for the parts. In scenario one, using the word Jewish obviously
is calling for a person of a certain religion to audition for the part which violates Title VII; and
because the notice calls for the person to be a mother, sex plus discrimination is also a point

Most of the scientists keep warning about rise of the temperature. Most of the geologists agreed that
when the climate becoming change mass extinction follow afterwards. For example the first

The Importance Of Communication In The Evolution Of...
In a smartphone communication survey conducted by Monica Anderson of Pew Research Center,
smartphone users were observed over a one week period. The study shows that 97 percent of usage
on users smartphones is text messaging. It also shows that 92 percent of usage is communication
through video or voice calls. Less than 50 percent make up music, podcasts, and navigation. This
survey concludes that smartphone users spend most of their usage time through communicating
with friends and family (Anderson, 2015). The high percentages are because communication
through smartphones is convenient, helpful, creative, fun, and accessible when it comes to
communicating with friends and family and also long distance relationships. Smartphone
communication features can benefit, rather than harm, how society communicates with one another.
Smartphones are built with user size preferences in mind, so many smartphones have a sleek and
skinny design that conveniently fits in a pocket, allowing them to be right there with the owner.
They also fit into the palm of a hand, making it simple to use the touch of a thumb to navigate
between webpages, texts, emails, or applications. The evolution of smartphones has had a great
impact on the enjoyment of using them. Smartphones have become physically larger, with larger
screens making it easier and more convenient to see text and images. Built in cameras have also
been significantly developed, making it unnecessary to buy a high quality, expensive

Urinary Tract Infection And Its Effect On The Body System
Urinary Tract Infection and its Effect on the Body System Urinary tract infection also referred to as
UTI is the second most common infection in the body. The urinary tract system in your body which
includes the bladder and kidneys makes urine and carries it out of your body. When germs get into
the urinary tract system an infection is typically formed. UTI s are usually caused when unwanted
bacteria enters through the urethraand begins to multiply (www.mayoclinic.org). The bacteria that
are normally found in the large intestine and feces are the most common source of a UTI. Sexual
intercourse is one of the common causes of urinary tract infections for women, causing bacteria
to move up into the urinary tract. Sometimes in a hospital setting a patient who is on a catheter
can also get a urinary tract infection. The two types of urinary tract infections are infection of the
bladder (Cystitis) and infection of the urethra (urethritis). Cystitis is a type of UTI which is
caused by Escherichia coli, a type of bacteria that is normally found in the gastrointestinal tract
(www.webmd.com). Although sexual intercourse can cause this type of urinary tract infection, it
doesn t necessarily mean that you have to be sexually active to develop it. Every female is at risk
for this type of UTI due to the shortness of distance from the urethral opening to the bladder and
the urethra to the anus. Urethritis is a type of UTI which typically occurs when bacteria from the
GI tract is

Canada Red Chokecherry
The Canada Red Chokecherry proves to be an impressive sight to those who bear witness to its
jewel toned leaves and its regal stature. To most, the chokecherry tree s appearance alone is enough
to leave an impression, however, it brings to mind memories of my younger self and my time with
my grandmother. The old chokecherry treeoutside her house was always a welcoming sight when
approaching her house; a maroon colored beacon of the experiences ahead of me. The Canada Red
Chokecherry tree eye catching nature and unique appearance show the true majesty of this

The Disciplinary Dilemma Of Tourism Studies
Summary of the Disciplinary Dilemma of Tourism Studies
Introduction
The study of the tourism phenomenon is a relatively recent addition in academic to achieve a goal.
Five main academic disciplines in tourism research have been identified by Jafari and Ritchie
(1981) which are economics, sociology, psychology, geography, and anthropology. A survey that
conducted by Sheldon from North American tourism and hospitality researchers showed that journal
from wide variety of disciplines were published and referenced included economics, business
studies, marketing, psychology, anthropology, and geography. Despite the diversity of disciplines

within existing disciplines, however, he also suggest that to developed a crossdisciplinary
knowledge based platform based on a scientific foundation by the tourism scholars.
The argument about the development of disciplinary in tourism study is unlikely to be determined
in the near future. Tthe evolution of tourism studies as a distinct discipline will facing significant
challenges. So, these challenges may be provided by first examining the intradisciplinary conflicts

Essay on Our Guys
The novel Our Guys, written by Bernard Lefkowitz, is a very dynamic story about the heinous
actions of a dozen middle class athletes, from a small New York suburb, against a defenseless
mentally handicapped girl. Lefkowitz describes a brutal gang rape involving a baseball bat and
broomhandle, which took place in this unsuspecting town, by these upstanding young group of
boys, as the town would describe them. Lefkowitz looksat the incident which took place and then
examines the jock clique sub culture that allowed such atrocities to happen, and spawned the
scandal to cover it up.
The town of Glenridge is at the surface not any different than any other surburban American town.

Everything was always taken care of and kept very low profile.
The parents of these jocks were also very respected within the community and refused to believe
their children had any sort of problems. When Kevin Scherzer s problems were brought to the
attention of his parents they simply denied the existence of a problem and dismissed the situation.
When the school wanted to take disciplinary actions against Kevin, the Scherzer s would not allow
it.
The parents played a major role in the deliquency of these young men, however they were not
alone. The other students acceptance and adoration of the jocks behavior is as much to blame
as anything else that led up to this behavior exhibited by the jocks . The little mothers ( as they
were referred as) were treated with disrespect and as sexual objects. They would repeatedly engage
in acts of voyeurism. They would also willingly fellate any member of this group, and some would
even go so far as making a train or other acts of group sex with our guys . Many of these girls were
referred to as trained seals and were proud of their titles.(p. 147) There was never any complaints
made and as the boys got older the more deviant they became.
The Leslie Faber rape took place in the Scherzer s basementon the afternoon of March 1, 1989.

  • 4. How Does Stalin Deserve The Great Purges During the 1930 s, Stalin ordered large scale purges, targeting anyone who displayed even the slightest sign of being a threat to the government. The government was able to identify these people through family members or close friends who informed on them. With this, people no longer expressed their true opinions and instead conformed with the government s ideas in fear of persecution ( Purges and Praises ). About 20 million people that were suspected of performing anti Soviet activities were executed, sent to Gulag labor camps, or forced them to take part in a show trial, where they would be forced plead guilty publicly to inconceivable crimes that they had never committed (Gracheva). Many officials and military leaders were also executed after being convicted of treason. It is estimated that one thirds of the Communist Party s three million members were put to death during the Great Purge. However, the traces of the people that were murdered were eliminated after the government rewrote history books and doctored photographs to exclude them. Additionally, members of the NKVD, the Soviet secret police, were killed at the end of the Great Purges, so that the people that had known too much about this event would be eliminated. • 10. Ethical Lenses Of Law And Ethics Essay Every decision can be justified to support the reasoning for the cause of cause of behaviour. Through the lenses of law and ethics, the case of Tri Star and the conduct of the president presents a dilemma between what is legal, and what is morally acceptable. In consideration of the ethical aspects of the case, the president did not oblige to promoting the greater good and avoiding bad consequences for all. Although the president attempted to create a favourable outcome for herself and Tri Star employees, it jeopardized the well being of consumers for the millions of people who would use the cell phone every day. Even if a better, and lasting battery is beneficial to society, the risk of exploding cell phones, especially in proximity to fuel may lead to economic and social catastrophe.... Since the risk of batteries heating up through use, and unstable liquid composition, the dangers associated with not testing batteries is reasonably foreseeable. Furthermore, Tri Star had a product liability to prevent careless manufacturing processes and necessitate precautions and warnings about the cell phone to be communicated to consumers. The final premise in determining negligence is causation of harm. Undoubtedly, the defects of overheating and explosions did cause harm to users of the new phone both physically, and emotionally. As a result, the president s decision to skip the safety test for the batteries is regarded as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Objections to Descartes’ Interactionism In the following essay I will be offering some objections to Descartes interactionism as is primarily represented in his works The Passions of the Soul, Part I and Correspondence with Princess Elisabeth, Concerning the Union of Mind and Body. I will start by describing the basic features of how Descartes notion of interactionism works. Namely, that the pineal gland is the principle seat of the mind because it is the only singular part of the brain. The pineal gland also has a range of movements, which correspond to the body and to the soul to the capacity that it can be thrusted by either the soul or the animal spirits. After describing Descartes interactionism, I will offer three objections that I view to provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it comes to Descartes reply, in the Passions of the Soul he uses the word impulse when describing the movements of the pineal gland and gives the impression that many of these impulses would be very slight and thus unnoticeable due to the fact that they only occur if the opposite impulse (from either the soul or the animal spirits) is stronger than itself (Passions, 366). This leads me to believe he would respond to the first objection by saying something to the effect of the movements or impulses being so small they are undetectable (at least by the technology available to him). My second objection applies to the plausibility of a causal interaction between an immaterial soul and a material brain under the currently accepted laws of physics and more specifically of the law of the conservation of energy. As it is understood, energy is neither created nor destroyed. If this is the case, when the immaterial mind causally interacts with the material pineal gland, where does this energy come from? This energy is not simply created for that would be against the laws of physics. If it is not created though, it must be coming from somewhere and is likely being stored in a similar place. The answer does not occur to me to describe where an immaterial mind would store its energy so as to causally interact with a material brain. Descartes possible reply to this might come from The Passions of the Soul in where he describes the soul as being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Reflective Essay On Hispanic Food When first beginning this assignment, I thought of choosing Vietnamese food because I miss having Vietnamese food for most of my meals, which was a luxury when I lived at home with my parents. Also, I have not fully prepared a Vietnamese dish or meal myself, as cooking never appealed to me. However, as I thought more about it, I would just be returning to the comforts of what I had already known instead of challenging myself and expanding my experiences. Eventually, I decided to pursue learning more about the Hispanic food culture because I greatly enjoy Hispanic food, whether it is Americanized Hispanic foods such as burritos or enchiladas from restaurants like Taco Bell or La Paz, or traditional, authentic foods I have had at my Hispanic friends houses. I love exploring the infinite variety of ethnic dishes this world has to offer, but I do not pay much attention exactly to what I am eating, what is in it, and how to prepare it myself. Death of the General in O Connor s A Late Encounter with the Enemy I did an analysis of the paragraph where the General passes away (page 143 in my edition of The Complete Stories of Flannery O Connor) The most obvious thing about this paragraph is that is that the General s death is portrayed as death during battle. The title The Late Encounter with the Enemy is very appropriate because the general views his death as such. The most obvious thing about this paragraph is that it is like a battle. Interestingly enough the General mentions in the prior paragraph that he heard the words Chickamauga, Shiloh, Johnston, and Lee, and that he knew that these words that he was inspiring meant nothing to him. These words ended up stirring up the picture in his mind at the time of his death. Even when he returns to those words at the time of his death, he still seems confused. When this occurs, the general thinks; then a succession of places Chickamauga, Shiloh, and Marthasville rushed at him as if the past were the only future now and he had to endure it. (142) This seems to be the moment that the General finally faces his past. The words dealing with his past could be viewed as soldiers in a battle. He keeps running away from them until he finally faces them. Perhaps the General s distaste for history has something to do with a very traumatic experience during the Civil War (not to mention senility) Right before the General passes away he thinks to himself, The suddenly he saw that the black procession was almost on him. He recognized it, for he had been dogging it all his days. Perhaps the mention of battles brought out a hidden fear within him. • 18. A Few South Africans By Sue Williamson Essay A Few South Africans is a series of works by Sue Williamson that truly interested me. This prominent South African English artist, known for her politically and societally questioning artworks, investigates the natural strength of black South African women, and how they were oppressed during this period. In this essay, I will attempt to understand the situation of South Africa s past and in turn its present with the help of her references and her work. The main theme of Williamson s piece is female activism and freedom of expression during a time of conflict in their country. It attempts to show how all women were affected by apartheid. The motives for wanting a fairer society based on equal distribution of wealth and power between different races shouldn t be a tricky idea to understand. To explain is simple. To change is much harder. Nevertheless, Williamson attempts to answer these questions. In some ways we can empathise, because our society has been through a similar struggle for the recognition of women in society, namely the Suffragette Movement. This struggle for the vote took 110 years and true parity is ongoing. The women in Williamson s work were all important in developing the limited freedom of black South Africans today. Compared to their white brothers and sisters, Black South Africans still only own 30% of all land in South Africa. Sue Williamson highlights the work of trailblazers like Winnie Mandela (left). These trains were lubricated with a mix of oil and powdered graphite so that the trains parts could be lubricated properly. The problem with Elijah s first patent is that with the new mix of graphite the lubricator would clog up. This all changed in April of 1915 when he received a patent for a new and improved lubricator in which he called Locomotive Lubricator with this patent he stated that it permitted the use of graphite without clogging. Hayden Cites a railroad superintendent states We have found the McCoy Graphite Lubricator to be of considerable assistance in lubrication of locomotives equipped with superheaters. There is a decided advantage in better lubrication and reduction of wear in valves and piston rings, and as a well lubricated engine is more economical in the use of fuel, there is unquestionably a saving in fuel. • 23. Comparing The Raven And Incident In A Rose Garden Death is something that at some point will come to each of us and has been explored in many forms of literature. The Raven and Incident in a Rose Garden are two poems that explore common beliefs and misconceptions about death. Though both poems differ in setting, tone, and mood there are surprising similarities in the literary tools they use and in the messages they attempt to convey. The setting and mood establish the tone and feel of a poem. In The Raven we are launched into a bleak and dreary winters night where a depressed narrator pines for his dead girlfriend. In Incident in a Rose Garden we are cast into a garden on a bright summers day where the frightened gardener seeks to flee deathto be with his living family. It is hard to come up with two more different settings. Consider the bleak and dreary winter night versus the walk in the sunny summer flower garden. There are also two completely different moods, one glum and morose and the other excited and frantic. Symbolism is a literary tool that is commonly used to convey ideas. Both poems use symbolism throughout their text. Incident in a Rose Garden uses a man picking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My thought of this is to recall just what it is that birds do when they are perched on statues. Without the Industrial Revolution, railroads would not have come to exist to the extent that they did. When railroads spread out across the US, eventually reaching the Pacific, the country s size effectively increased. Goods from one part of the country could easily be brought to other parts of the country. This was such an important step in creating a wonderful country. Second, the Industrial Revolution made cities larger and more important. Before industrialization, cities had been important as transportation hubs, but had not been major economic engines. • 25. South Africa s New Secrecy Bill Putting Country s... South Africa is recognised internationally as a country passionate about upholding its democracy. Last year however, the National Assembly decided to pass a condemned Secrecy Bill, two days prior to Freedom Day, despite citizen s disapprovals. Was the event a mere coincidence or is our country s democracy at stake? The Secrecy Bill, formally known as the Protection of State Information Act, was introduced to replace the apartheid era legislation. It is supposedly an improved legislation which serves to protect sensitive or classified state information against unnecessary disclosure and destruction. It has been noted by the media and even President Jacob Zuma himself that the Bill has some grey areas where national interest remains too vague a reason for keeping information classified. Furthermore, the Secrecy Bill restricts the media s access to government information, offering hefty jail sentences to those who leak the secrets withheld by government. Is that a procedure to protect the state of corruption in our country, or is it to protect the State itself? As far as I am concerned, the Secrecy Bill acts against our constitutional rights. The South African Constitution states that: Everyone has the right of access to any information held by the state. Along with this, the Bill acts against the right to freedom of speech, as the media can no longer publish articles freely. It often contains dissolved metals as a result of the mining processes containing some toxic constituents such as lead and high levels of mercury. During severe storm events and high snowmelt periods, erosion transports a significant amount of sediments and chemicals pollutants into locals streams. Dissolved metals often settle under the stream bed and cause decreases in macroinvertebrate and benthic invertebrate populations. Metal accumulation in aquatic organisms, particularly benthic species, can also lead to acute and chronic toxicity to aquatic life [EPA 35]. (1) Meditation is a powerful tool that can be used by anyone regardless race, gender, social standing, religion, and intelligence. It s a unifying practice. Meditation is a conscious effort to change how the mind works for better understanding the world and yourself. Throughout history into present day times, meditation is used as a key to unlock hidden areas of our subconscious mind, providing us with answers about the meaning of life. Meditation is believed to have had early traces all the way back in prehistoric to times, where some religions involved rhythmic clapping and chants called Mantras. Some researches also believe that primitive hunter gathering societies quite possibly could have discovered the different states of consciousness while staring at fires that were used in many rituals that they had. Eventually these simple rituals evolved into a practise that was not much more complicated to use on a daily basis. An important source for records of meditation are the Upanishads, which are texts that discuss meditation, philosophy and spiritual knowledge. One of the main themes throughout the play is the theme of responsibility, and the consequences of our actions. Another important theme in the play is of the contrast between the younger and older generations, which again links into responsibility, as the younger generation are willing to accept responsibility for what they have done wrong, whereas the older generation are not. In the beginning of the play, we get the idea that Sheila may be slightly naГЇve, as she is still young, and we see her and her mother, Mrs Birling, following the typical gender roles of women in 1912, especially those of the upper class. However, the consumerism mentality that most Americans have is akin to Godzilla. Rampaging on deals and the opportunity to take what they think is rightfully theirs. My aim for this project was to discuss how the consumerism of buying changes one s attitude towards others, ourselves, and our behavior of responsibility. Behavior of Others The Christmas season is upon us, and an event that is always relevant to discuss is Black Friday . This year, I went pre Black Friday shopping on the night of Thanksgiving before 10 pm. Discrimination appears to be prevalent throughout all four of the casting scenarios. Based on the fact that all roles were gender specific, the Title VII laws stating that a person cannot be discriminated based on sex was violated in each of the four scenarios. Moreover, the first and third casting calls also show further disparate treatment towards applicants due to the racial and religious qualities that are required for the parts.
