Native Americans And Native American Nations
Introduction
Native Americans have existed for thousands of years, developing a rich heritage that characterizes the value of
the group. Today it is estimated that there are more than 2.5 million Native Americans living in the United
States and this population is steadily growing. Although they account for only 1 percent of the total U.S.
population, they have been described as including 50 percent of the diversity that exists in this country. This
diversity among Native American nations is illustrated by 250 languages and more than 500 tribes. One of these
tribes is called the Cherokee Indians and this research paper is going to deal with them. Cherokee were probably
the most acculturated Indians in the nineteenth century. They were one of the first Indian groups to successfully
transform their aboriginal landscape into a new cultural landscape that sometimes surpassed their white frontier
neighbors. They had a lots of powerful traditions focusing on the tribe first, the clan second, and the family third
in terms of importance and duty. The family was the centrality of the circle and the individual was traditionally
simply not allowed to upset the order of the family. Traditional beliefs permit us to think that being Indians was
obviously not about the blood that flew in their veins, but how they lived in a cultural and traditional way in
respecting the sacredness of the American way of life.
However, two hundred years ago, the Cherokee Indians were removed from their

Summary Of The Conquest Of Hawaii
After reading the article, The Conquest of Hawaii, my understanding of how Hawaii became a part of the United
States has changed drastically. Originally, I had thought that Hawaii was conquered by the Europeans with
reckless violence and torture towards the Hawaiians like how the Europeans conquered the Native American s
land. I also had thought that the modern Hawaiian attitudes towards becoming U.S. citizens were narrow
minded and hard headed because it was their land that the Europeans were taking away. After reading the
article, I learned that Hawaii wasn t automatically conquered, but violence did occur and the Hawaiian s attitude
towards annexation was supportive. According to the article, the conquest of the Hawaii started when a group ...

As a result, thousands of commoners arrived Hawaii to cut and haul sandalwood to the beaches. Food
production suffered and starvation left many Natives in violent deaths. By 1843, whalers arrived Hawaii about
the same time as the missioners did and by that time whaling became common in Hawaii. While Hawaiian
merchants and chiefs got richer from the whaling industry, most Native Hawaiians suffered greatly. Hawaiians
were excellent merchants, and young men were hired as sailors. Large numbers of native sailors on their journey
did not return. Prostitution flourished, and native women were left barren by the very diseases spread by others.
In 1778, when Cook arrived the Islands, the native population decreased to 200,000 and 300,000. In the 1830s,
the sugar industry was introduced to Hawaii and by the mid 19th century, the production of sugar flourished in
Hawaii. American missioners and planters brought about great changes to political, cultural, economic, and
religious life, and in 1840 a constitutional monarchy was established, stripping the Hawaii monarchy s

Assess The Difference Between Democracy And Non-Democratic...
Democratic and non democratic are the two main types of regimes. They differ on the ways they govern over
the people. Democratic and non democratic regimes can be compared and contrasted by the institutional
structure, rule of law, methods of political control, and political socialization. One way democratic and non
democratic regimes can be compared is by their institutional structure. Both democratic and non democratic
regimes have separate branches of government in place; however, in practice they differ. There is often an
executive, legislative, and judicial branch set up to run the government, in both. In advanced democracies there
seem to be more checks and balances in place between the branches, to prevent one branch from having all ...

In democratic regimes political socialization is often through family, schools, and the media. Especially in
advanced democracies the level of civil society is pretty high. Civil society helps people to develop their own
unique opinions. If there are activities that are not run by the state, there will probably be more opposition
against the state, compared to a state without a strong civil society. In non democratic regimes when there are
high levels of control the way people acquire their political beliefs are controlled by the government. The media
is also a form of political socialization in non democratic regimes, but it may have a different affect. For
example, in Russia, the media to mostly state owned. The government chooses what is put on TV or printed in
the news. This makes it more difficult for opposing views to form against the government, if all they hear is
information form the government. The political parties in Russia are not based on ideology but are rather
personalized to the elite members of the government to support their aspirations. Political parties can be a way
the separates political attitudes. If there is a lack of parties, people will mostly support the one major party.
There are patterns due to environment both in democratic and non democratic regimes. For example being rich
or poor, or being form an urban or rural area has an influence over political

Jury Diversity
1) The jury in this film is relatively diverse. Although on the whole diversity spectrum it isn t, we see diversity
in the age ranges of the jury members and in their different classes, and levels of education. The diversity helps
the team in the aspect that it helps seem jury members see differently to others. It allowed some of them to give
the defendant a chance and understand the circumstances he had be brought up in and the lifestyle he d lived in.
An example would be when the kid was called slum by certain jury members whereas others gave him a chance.
Only different upbringings and understandings would enable that understanding.
2) There were numerous examples of bias in the film. One example is when the defendant got labelled a

these are roles individuals can plan judging from personal experience.
11) I do not think there were any examples of social loafing in the movie.
12) I thought the closest thing to a devil s advocate was Jury member eleven. Even though he did not play a
huge part, when he did he posed a lot of questions to the group in a way that invited a lot of thought from them,
he came across as very intellectual and thought a bit more outside the box and tried to pose these thoughts to
others.
13) At the start the trust level was minimal. Most of them blindly voted guilty and when jury member eight
pointed that out and some of them started to realize that there was a lot of distrust. I think the level of trust
changed at about the half way point when the votes were beginning to tie. I think this was because some of them
were realizing there was another side to this story and that it was worth listening to than simply

The Purpose Of The Education System
Schools have always been the cornerstone of American society and teachers the masons. However, the motive of
the educational system has been scrutinized over the years. There are many theories about its purpose. From
following school rules, to learning critical thinking skills, everything that the schools facilitate and teachers
teach are societal aspirations. These are the goals that are taught to reach the underlying purpose. The purpose of
the educational system is that of a political nature; it is to produce citizens that are capable of maintaining and
participating in a democracy.
From its inception, the American school system became a tool, a tool for our societal whims. George
Washington (1732 1799) had a plan to build universities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
349 350). To reiterate, to raise productive adults who can compete in a global economy . This idea needs to be
broken down into its components for further understanding. What does the word compete mean? Upon
reflection, it seems to conjure principles that lean towards producing citizens to ensure America s ability to
compete in a global economy. What does the word global mean? The idea of someone who is global transfers
that person s responsibility from their local and national capabilities to a broader sense. It implies that regardless
of location in terms of geography, class, gender or ethnicity that a person s sole duty is to the world. (Skrbiš,
2014, p. 6). This is in strict contrast to the understanding of citizenship. So what does the word citizen mean?
One of the key features of citizenship is a explicit relationship to a political community (Dower, 2000, p. 556).
A citizen must have a nation, one in which legally recognizes them as such. There is no One World Nation and
therefore can be no global citizens. The concept of the global citizen , its unexpressed convictions for now,
remain just another aspiration that society should reach for. One that will still be taught by the masons. Sadly,
however, It will only take form in a world that can nurture it and see it through to fruition. That world is still a
dream. For now, our global

Social Security
The United States Social Security System is often considered a political football, frequently debated on whether
the government should continue to manage it or should it be privatized. Either way, in today s economy, it s vital
to the welfare of many. The main purpose of the system is to provide benefits to America s workers and their
families for retirement, disability, and early death. (Unknown Social Security ProCon) According to the data
collected in the 2000 census, Social Security is the main source of income for men and women 65 and older.

benefit, and for a multitude of reasons are not saving enough money to live on once they ... Show more content

A 1972 amendment tied increases in Social Security retirement benefits to increases in the Consumer Price
Index. In 1974, Social Security insurance was taken over by the Social Security Administration, and in 1983 an
amendment allowed partial taxation of the benefits given to upper income recipients. In 1999, payroll
deductions for Social Security were set at 6.2% of annual wages below $72,600, and payroll deductions for
Medicare were 1.45% of annual wages (no upper limit), with employers contributing matching amounts.
(Columbia Encyclopedia Infoplease) The rates previously listed continue to increase, often annually. The Social
Security tax for 2010 is 6.2% of the first $106,800. Earnings above that are exempt from additional tax. In
addition to the Social Security tax, all employee s taxable earnings are taxed a 1.45% Medicare tax. Both taxes
must be matched by the employer. (Averkamp Accounting Coach)
With all the tax revenue being generated, the next question often asked is; what is the best approach for
investing it. This again, often leads to controversy. Social Security funds are invested in federal securities,
mainly long term bonds. In 1997 a government advisory panel proposed that some of the revenues be invested
in stocks and bonds to generate higher returns. The panel was divided over whether the money should be
invested by the government or by individuals, as well as the amount that should be shifted

Eclectic Approach
USING ECLECTIC APPOACH FOR FUTURE TEACHING
Nowadays, English has become the Global language. It is the language of science, technology, economic, etc.
As a result, learning English has become an essential need for everyone. While learners try their best to reach
their goal of successful communicator in foreign language, teachers find ways to make language teaching
effective. In this fashion, considering and choosing the right way in teaching is prior thing for all of teachers and
I am not an exception. We have witnessed the dominance of Communicative Approach with Communicative
Language Teaching in the world in general and in Vietnam in particular recent years. For me, I will use the
Eclectic Approach to teach English in the future due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason is to catch up with globalization of English as well. According to Le Van Canh, Vietnam
introduced CA (approach employed by Communicative Language Teaching) into its school system rather late
than its neighbors such as China, Hong Kong, or Thailand (Canh, 2009). CLT replaced GMT when The
Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) organized the design of the new curriculum and the
writing of new textbooks for all school subjects in 2002. However, the application of CA faces many challenges.
The challenges are from the teachers, learners, the class constrains, the syllabus. Vietnamese students and
teachers are still familiar with GTM that has influence on them for long time, so the change into the new one is
not easy at all. In addition, the class size with over forty students per class is one thing that make us concern.
Also, the mismatch between the textbook and testing system is another one concern as well. While textbook
focuses on four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, testing still focuses on testing linguistic
competences only on that grammar and reading only as Wang 2008 once stated while curriculum developers and
textbook writers emphasize the adoption of a communicative approach to teaching, classroom pedagogy has
remained textbook based, test oriented and teacher fronted ( cited in Canh Barrnard, 2009: 28). So eclectic
approach which combines the traditional one and modern one is the solution in this

Analysis Of Alfred Schutz s The Well Informed Citizen
In the year of a presidential election the media is flooded with an unhealthy amount of news about almost every
facet of the candidate s life. This information is presented in different lights to hungry audiences, all of those
who wish to either see the best or worst of the potential President. Each individual member of this audience
belongs to a different mindset and has their own background knowledge associated with the news they are
consuming. Although people read the news with different intent and expected gain of knowledge, they all get
the same amount of information.
The best way to begin to explain the audience s expectance of the news is to look at the ideas presented in
Alfred Schutz s, The Well Informed Citizen . The man on the street is the general population who takes in
information to stay relevant and maintain a stock of little insights to share with colleagues. They tend to only
read the news article s lead, that first small paragraph that contains all the important information, they take that
information and add it to their conversation starter list without considering its validity. Alfred Schutz s idea is
that, This knowledge in all its vagueness is still sufficiently precise for the practical purpose at hand. (122). This
is not to demean the man on the street for his lack of comprehensive information, but to point out how one reads
into the newspaper and utilizes that information. The other end of this spectrum is the expert , for this essay that

Religious Motives For The Age Of Exploration
The age of exploration was an age of discovery and trade which started in the late 15yh century and ended in the
18th century. During this time the discovery of the new world and new trade routes led to large steps in
economic change and growth in Europe. Explorers motives for discovery were strongly rooted in both economic
growth and religious beliefs. However, Religion was not so much of a motivator as it was a way of justification
for the atrocities committed by European explorers in the name of personal economic gains. Explorers and slave
traders alike claimed that they were relieving the natives of their natural bestial tendencies, when in fact they
were simply justifying their cruelty and torment of the indigenous people for the economic expansion of Europe.
Explores and enslavers alike knew their actions in enslaving the indigenous peoples of Africa where deplorable,
however, they continued them due to the believed justification of their actions through religious motives. The
explorers and enslavers convinced themselves that their actions were saving the natives. The religion they
believed justified their actions. They convinced themselves that they were saving these natives from eternal
damnation and showing them the true path, the path of Christianity and of Jesus. Zurara (map maker and
historian who lived during the beginning of the age of exploration) writes about seeing the suffering of the
African slaves. He talks about the visible pain the natives

Currently, she is attempting to take on the role of President, to unify and stabilise Somalia. There are eighteen

Salmonell Salmonella And Salmonella
One of the most common causes of food poisoning to date in the United States today is from a group of bacteria,
Salmonella (Foodsafety.gov, n.d.). As reported by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] (2014),
Salmonella causes an estimated 1.2 million illnesses annually leading to 19,000 hospitalizations and a mortality
of 380 (CDC, 2014). This cost was reported to be more than $3.7 billion in 2013 (Foodsafety.gov, n.d.)! The two
most common kinds of Salmonella in the United States are Salmonella serotype Typhimurium and Salmonella
serotype Enteritidis with Salmonellosis more common in the summer months (CDC, 2012).
Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, and vomiting anywhere from 6 72 hours after being
infected (Foodsafety.gov, n.d.). Because there are many things that can cause those symptoms, diagnosing
Salmonella would depend on laboratory tests that identifies it in the stool of an individual that is infected (CDC,
2013). Further testing can help determine the specific type once Salmonella has been confirmed.
These symptoms typically go away after 5 7 without treatment other than hydration. However, individuals with
severe symptoms may require intravenous fluids or antibiotic therapy, most especially for young infants, older
adults (over 65 years old) and immunocompromised persons (CDC, 2012). The drug of choice for antibiotic
therapy include fluoroquinolones, third generation cephalosporins, and ampicillin (CDC, 2012).

Lesson that we can learn from Jack Torrance
When the name Jack Torrance is mentioned people tend to think of a maniac with an axe breaking down a door

how not to get consumed with work. Here what we can learn from this film.

There are few cases with why the Guam has ended in the shortage of the water. The first reason is because the
Guam is located near to the equator, which makes the humidity very high leading to the evaporation of the water
into the air. The climate of Guam is average 80 degrees Fahrenheit and the highest temperature ever recorded
was 96 degrees Fahrenheit, meaning that Guam is very hot island enough to evaporate the water. The second
reason is the wastes created by the humans. According to Pacific Daily News who wrote How to Conserve

off the faucet, not shutting off the nozzles of the hose, and etc. These wastes creates a danger for a lot of the

Author Summary Shirley Jackson was born in San Francisco, California on December 14, 1919. The family left
California and moved to New York when she was sixteen. At age twenty Shirley enrolled at the University of
Syracuse. There she met Stanley Edgar Hyman. Her and Hyman were later married in 1940. Her literary
production increased tremendously after her marriage and the birth of their four children. Unfortunately with all
of her success she was still human, with human problems. She was an agoraphobic and severely depressed. The
may be why her stories are so far out in left field compared to what was being written at the time, and even
today. Her writing was an outlet for her and this lead so many successful works of literature. Shirley Jackson s
stories always seem to center on one thing: almost every story is about a protagonist s discovering or failing to
discover or successfully ignoring an alternate way of perceiving a set of circumstances or the world. Often a
change in the character s perspective leads to terror, anxiety, neurosis, or even loss of their identity. Jackson s
most notable work The Lottery is a ghastly story that tells of the way people blindly follow traditions and
conform to their society. She also published many short stories in periodicals such as the New Yorker, Good
Housekeeping, Woman s Day, The Hudson Review, and The Yale Review. She also published novels such as

Religions of Judaism, Christianity, Islam
1.
God to the people of the big three monotheist religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) see god as an all knowing,
all seeing, and all powerful being.
I believe that that the Cosmological argument gives good reason to believe in the existence of God. The
Cosmological argument focuses on everything having a cause except one thing that started it all, this starter is
known as the Prime Mover . The Prime Mover is the one that starts everything without anything having a
previous effect on it. With that people have assumed that the logical answer to who the prime mover is, is God.
This to me seems the most logical of arguments because although there is the idea of eternity and an eternal
cycle there has to be a starting point. I do not believe the argument is successful.
The reason that the argument does not succeed is because what proof is there that the prime mover is an all
powerful all mighty being? There could be alternate reasons related to science, The Big Bang Theory, which
could also be a reason. One of Aquinas s arguments against the cosmological argument discussed that since
everything in nature had a time where it did not exist there had to be a time where it was nothing to bring
anything into being. His argument was if this was possible there was nothing around to bring the universe into
being in the first place. Due to this a being such as God is not likely to have existed before to create it. Who
created God? The only thing that could be done to better prove

Elimination Reaction Of 2-Methylbutane Lab Report
Elimination Reactions of Alkyl Halides
Purpose
The purpose of this lab is to understand the process of eliminating an alkyl halide to form an alkene. The
experiment is carried out by first converting the alcohol, 2 methy 2 butanol, into the alkyl halide of 2 chloro 2
methylbutane that will then be put through dehydrohalogenation that favors elimination reaction (E2) to create a
mixture of 2 methyl 2 butene and 2 methyl 1 butene. A fractional distillation will be taken to purify the mixture
and an additional gas chromatography will be done to further analyze the mixture composition. A bromide test
will be done to determine the product of an alkene in the experiment.
Reactions

First Response Journal Of Human History
First Response Journal
During the early twentieth century, a space never recognized before was discovered. Once this space was
explored, it would be found to contain a vast number of valuables. So many, that they would be reaped for
centuries to come. This discovery, changed the course of human history by changing how we view ourselves.
However, this discovery was not made in the jungle by sweaty men in khaki, who hacked away vines with
machete and muscle. Nor are was the cave made of limestone and full of gold, diamonds or oil. Unbelievably,
the location was not of this physical world at all, instead it was hidden above the noses of all of mankind. This

countertransference was highly emphasized.
Sigmund Freud believed dreams to be the royal road to the unconscious and I ve come to agree with this based
on personal experience. Sigmund Freud saw the mind as an iceberg mostly submerged in water. The tip of this
iceberg represented the conscious part of the ego and a small portion of the super ego. While everything below
the water was, unconscious including the Id and the rest of the super ego. Freud believed that within the frozen
core of this solitary iceberg were wishes so disgusting, horrifying and painful that they had to be repressed by
the practical ego and pious superego for their own safety. However, these wishes were important to the id, our
most primal and instinctive part of the psyche. These wishes while vile to the ego, are still necessary to be a
whole person. However, the iceberg only allowed these vile wishes to ascend when the pressure was lowed from
the higher functions. Freud saw that sleep as the moment of lowed pressure on the Id. This was due lowered ego
defenses during times of rest. However, these defenses functioned enough to disguise the wishes somewhat

The Complexity of Forest Fires Case in Indonesia: Exposure on Moral Dimension of the Environmental Policy
I. Introduction and Problem Identification
Everyone is expected to do the right thing in a society that has a social awareness. The social awareness includes
moral behaviour, ethical behaviour and obey the rules. Forest and land fire is a complex environmental problem
in Indonesia. In the last 18 years since 1997/1998, forest and land fires happen in every year in Indonesia. The
problem is not only because of natural cause but also human action cause. The human cause is from population
growth that impacts to the increasing needs of human life and pushes human action in utilizing nature

sustainability of nature and to human itself. Furthermore global climate change phenomenon as an impact of
human action also has caused El Nino and impacted to the length of drought season in Indonesia. As a tropical

Review Of Veelas The Veela
Veelas: The Veela are a race of semi human, semi magical humanoids reminiscent of the Sirens of Greek
mythology. Little is known about their biology; they appear to be young, beautiful humans. Their looks and
especially their dance is magically seductive to almost all male beings, which causes them to perform strange
actions in order to get nearer to them. Veela are thought to have their own type of magic which does not require
a wand. When Veela are angry, however, they transform into something more like Harpies their faces turn into
cruel beaked bird heads while long scaly wings burst from their shoulders, and they can launch balls of fire from
their hands. Veela seem to be quite an irascible race. Veela hair is a magical substance, ... Show more content on

Werewolves appear in the form of a wolf but, there are distinctions between them and regular wolves. A mixture
of powdered silver and dittany applied to a fresh bite will seal the wound and allow the victim to live on as a
werewolf, although tragic tales are told of witches and wizards begging for death rather than becoming
werewolves. The Wolfsbane Potion, invented by Damocles, allows the werewolf to keep their human mind
during transformation. A werewolf cannot chose whether or not to transform and will no longer remember who
they are and would kill even their best friend given the opportunity once transformed.

Gabrielle Bonheur Coco Chanel is one of the greatest fashion inventors of all time. In her early life as a child,
she was put in an orphanage by her father after her mother s death. Her father worked as a peddler and didn t
make enough money to take care of her. He barely made enough money to keep himself alive. The nuns of her
orphanage taught her how to sew which became a vital know how for her career later on. To earn money to live
on her own, she started a singing career at local clubs in Vichy and Moulins where her nickname Coco began. At
about 20 years of age, Chanel began a relationship with Etienne Balsan who offered her money to help her start
her career. She left Etienne for a wealthier friend of his, Arthur Boy Chapel. Both of these men were a key
ingredient in Coco s first fashion experiment. When she opened her first shop on Paris s Rue Cambon in 1910,
she sold hats. When she began making clothes, she put a store in Deauville and one in Biarritz. Her first
successful piece of work was a dress she made from an old jersey. In 1925, she made the suit with a tight fitted
skirt and a collarless jacket, popular. Her designs were made with things from a man s closet, but making them

popular at that time. The main idea was to shorten the time that women spent in the morning getting ready for

Significance Of Race, By Ralph Eubanks s Color Lines
In the essay Color Lines by Ralph Eubanks, the author explores the flawed logic of race from a scientific
perspective. In the article, Eubanks explains the fact that a person cannot know the ancestry of another person or
the nature of that person by looking at their race alone. Heritage is a much more complex concept than a simple
racial categorization. In writing the article, the author sought to demonstrate that when looking at a person, you
could not confirm their identity based on what percentage of a certain race they may have and that social
construction meant to depict one group as being superior or inferior to another. This rhetorical analysis will
therefore explore the importance of the rhetorical devices and strategies used by Eubanks to communicate with
the audience.
One of the effective strategies that Eubanks uses to deconstruct race is the reference to science and technology,
with this strategy Eubanks is appealing to the readers ethos. This strategy is effective for the article because it is
both reliable and well understood by the audience. The target audience is obviously aware of the role that DNA
has played in the modern society and the author refers to this important piece of technology while delivering his
message. In a way, Eubanks is arguing that if one can rely on DNA evidence in an argument, it can also be used
to downplay the role of race in modern society. Using DNA, the author sets up to demonstrate how complex
people s heritage is, and how a

Against Gay Marriage
So many people in America and around the world are against Gay Marriage and Gay Rights in general. Why can
t the LGBT community feel comfortable with who they are? Also, why can t people around the world be happy
for them? Why is being gay wrong if it s something that makes that person happy? It upsets me how much
cruelty there is around us, especially with people who want to love others of the same gender as them. Honestly
if someone is a part of the LGBT community it is perfectly fine in my opinion. If you judge a person for being
themselves before getting to know them first, then don t get mad if decides to judge you. Everyone should be
able to live their lives the way they what to instead of worrying what people think of you and what they might

What doesn t make sense is why can t people be happy for them? Being gay doesn t affect the world in a
negative way. It s not like if you re gay you re a threat to society, you just love who you love. I think all
consenting adults who want to commit to a life partner ought to be treated the same way. (John Stossel). This
quote from this author is really well said and I agree with it. If everyone was treated the same and not judge
other people for who they are then there would be less hate in the world. Even though in religions it is frowned
upon for two people of the same gender to get married, it is still the union of two souls, whether it be man and
man, woman and woman, or man and woman an expression of love and commitment to each other as well as the

Ancient Christian Beliefs
Ancient Christian beliefs about Death and the Afterlife:
Most Romans during this time believed in many different gods and where known as polytheists. Christianity in
Rome started as an illegal act of rebellion against the popular belief of more than one god or the gods. Christian
believed in one god and that Jesus, a man who was gathering a large following around 30AD, was the son of
their one god. The followers of Jesus became known as Christians. Christians spread the word of their God all
around, teaching that peoples sins would be forgiven if they became Christian. People all around the empire
responded to the idea of Christian salvation. Christianity quickly became the blame for most of Rome s
problems due to them turning away from worshiping the gods to worshiping only one, causing emperor of the
time Nero to begin persecuting Christians as he believed they were making the gods angry. Many Romans
believed that the empire was facing hardship due to the ever expanding group of Christians. Romans of lower

Love is not love, alters when it alteration finds, or bends with the remover to remove the first phrase Love is not
love, alter when it alteration finds, simply means that love is not love when it continues to change even when
one person has noticed that their beloved has changed. However, If one partner changes, the relationship should

In his novel Being There, Jerzy Kosinski shows how present day culture has strayed away from the ideal society
that Plato describes in his allegory of the cave. In his metaphor, Plato describes the different stages of life and
education through the use of a cave. In the first level of the cave, Plato describes prisoners who are shackled and
facing a blank wall. Behind them is a wall of fire with a partition that various objects are placed and
manipulated by another group of people. These shadows are the only action that they ever see. They can only
talk to the surrounding prisoners, and watch the puppet show on the wall in front of them. Naturally, the

Ambrose Bierce s Influence On War

Ambrose Bierce was a unique author/veteran (whichever you prefer). Even now people still are trying to figure

Bierce was an author who disappeared with little trace leaving behind many theories.
During the Civil War, Ambrose Bierce joined the military, fought in many battles, and wrote fiction inspired by

Cervical Cancer Case Study
For the given assignment, I chose Cervical Cancer as the health outcome and the screening tests recommended
by the USPSTF for the age group of 30 to 65. Cervical cancer is a type of cancer arising from the cervix. In
more than 90% of the cases HPV infection is involved in the development of the disease. The current annual
incidence rate for the disease is 6.6 cases per 100,000 women, and the age adjusted mortality rate is 2.4 deaths
per 100,000 (for 2003 to 2007). Five year survival rates in the United States are 68%. Worldwide, it is the fourth
most common cause of death from cancer in women. The risk factors associated with cervical cancer include
smoking, HIV infection, using birth control pills for long time etc.
Benefits and Harms of screening test:
According to a study, screening of population for cervical cancer has reduced cervical cancer rates by 60% to
90% within 3 years of its implementation, thus reducing mortality and morbidity associated with the disease.
For women belonging to the age group of 30 to 65 years, USPSTF recommends screening tests to be done by

The Contribution Allport s Influence On The Academic...
The next scholar to contribute was Allport. Allport stated that it is very unlikely that people just possessed one
personality characteristic (Fleming, 2006). He claimed that personality exists in a psychological matrix meaning
within a person, that people possessed traits which can be categorized into levels, which in turn allows there to
be comparison among different individuals (Liebert, R. M. Spiegler, M. D., 1970, 117). Allport also recognized
that it is important to understand individuals within themselves, and that it is necessary to recognize some
characteristics are not universal/transferable among individuals (Liebert, R. M. Spiegler, M. D., 1970). To list
the all the contributions Allport made to the academic world would be too much, in short, he among other
scholars introduced an extensive list of adjectives that were descriptive of individual behaviours (Fleming,
2006). Lacking necessary agreement among classifications and definitions of the many personality traits, the
further development of personality theories in the 1960 s was brought to halt. Resuming development, Cattell
claimed there to be too many factors and characteristics in need of analysis (Liebert, R. M. Spiegler, M. D.,
1970). He paved the way by developing factor analytical methods using multivariate trials (Liebert, R. M.
Spiegler, M. D., 1970). Cattell was among the academics that developed the sixteen factor personality test

In the first little part of the story lupe the main character seems to not be very good at sports. But the thing is she

With a war going on between the Khmer Rouge and Vietnamese government, the supposedly safest and richest
(with food/supply) and populated place was Nong Chan, a refugee camp on the Thailand border. That was the
destination of Dara, her mother, and her brother, Sarun coming from a village known ... Show more content on

At first, Dara heavily relied on Jantu s magic clay marble, needing its magic, its luck, and a lot more values that
are not muscles. Back then, it was reasonable Dara didn t make anything back then, because back then, Dara
only had remnants of confidence in herself. As the novel goes on, Dara learns to become more and more
confident within herself.
The Clay Marble, although short and sweet, introduced me to Asian life in Cambodia during its civil war. In
chapter seven of the book, I could make a connection between the Cherokee s Trail of Tears and the long
grueling walk the many refugee families had to take to reach safety. The Cherokees were walking away from the
harsh greedy whites, while the refugees were walking away from the nearing fighting of the civil war.
I really appreciate Dara and Jantu s view on life. In the novel, when Dara was persuading Sarun to quit being a
soldier at the end, she made wonderful arguments. The most memorable argument was when Dara said that it
took more courage to stay peaceful in their own village, rather than to fight in war, which was nothing else than
a game of destroying and breaking. I never thought of bravery that kind of way, and I am glad Minfong Ho
introduced me to this new concept through her

Research Paper On Ergonomics
1. Introduction
Ergonomics is an interdisciplinary field of study that seeks to design tools and equipment for optimizing the
interface between humans and systems [1]. Ergonomics is also known as the process of understanding and
improving human communications with types of products, equipment, environments, and systems. Ergonomics
principles are used to improve the fit between the worker and the workplace. Targets for ergonomics
improvement are divided into two broad categories which are physical issues, such as reaches and exertion, and
cognitive issues, such as mental overload and confusing displays [2].
Many theories, principles, methods, and data relevant to the workstation design have been generated through
ergonomics research over the years. Poor workstation design can lead to fatigued, frustrated, and hurting
workers [3]. As a result, the productivity of the product and quality will decrease [4].
Often in an industry, the workstation is designed in an arbitrary manner [1], giving little consideration to the
anthropometric measurements of the anticipated user. Small changes in workstation dimension can have a
considerable impact on worker productivity, and occupational health and safety. Inadequate posture from an
improperly designed workstation causes static muscle efforts and then eventually resulting in acute ... Show

  • 2. Native Americans And Native American Nations Introduction Native Americans have existed for thousands of years, developing a rich heritage that characterizes the value of the group. Today it is estimated that there are more than 2.5 million Native Americans living in the United States and this population is steadily growing. Although they account for only 1 percent of the total U.S. population, they have been described as including 50 percent of the diversity that exists in this country. This diversity among Native American nations is illustrated by 250 languages and more than 500 tribes. One of these tribes is called the Cherokee Indians and this research paper is going to deal with them. Cherokee were probably the most acculturated Indians in the nineteenth century. They were one of the first Indian groups to successfully transform their aboriginal landscape into a new cultural landscape that sometimes surpassed their white frontier neighbors. They had a lots of powerful traditions focusing on the tribe first, the clan second, and the family third in terms of importance and duty. The family was the centrality of the circle and the individual was traditionally simply not allowed to upset the order of the family. Traditional beliefs permit us to think that being Indians was obviously not about the blood that flew in their veins, but how they lived in a cultural and traditional way in respecting the sacredness of the American way of life. However, two hundred years ago, the Cherokee Indians were removed from their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of The Conquest Of Hawaii After reading the article, The Conquest of Hawaii, my understanding of how Hawaii became a part of the United States has changed drastically. Originally, I had thought that Hawaii was conquered by the Europeans with reckless violence and torture towards the Hawaiians like how the Europeans conquered the Native American s land. I also had thought that the modern Hawaiian attitudes towards becoming U.S. citizens were narrow minded and hard headed because it was their land that the Europeans were taking away. After reading the article, I learned that Hawaii wasn t automatically conquered, but violence did occur and the Hawaiian s attitude towards annexation was supportive. According to the article, the conquest of the Hawaii started when a group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, thousands of commoners arrived Hawaii to cut and haul sandalwood to the beaches. Food production suffered and starvation left many Natives in violent deaths. By 1843, whalers arrived Hawaii about the same time as the missioners did and by that time whaling became common in Hawaii. While Hawaiian merchants and chiefs got richer from the whaling industry, most Native Hawaiians suffered greatly. Hawaiians were excellent merchants, and young men were hired as sailors. Large numbers of native sailors on their journey did not return. Prostitution flourished, and native women were left barren by the very diseases spread by others. In 1778, when Cook arrived the Islands, the native population decreased to 200,000 and 300,000. In the 1830s, the sugar industry was introduced to Hawaii and by the mid 19th century, the production of sugar flourished in Hawaii. American missioners and planters brought about great changes to political, cultural, economic, and religious life, and in 1840 a constitutional monarchy was established, stripping the Hawaii monarchy s ... • 4. Assess The Difference Between Democracy And Non-Democratic... Democratic and non democratic are the two main types of regimes. They differ on the ways they govern over the people. Democratic and non democratic regimes can be compared and contrasted by the institutional structure, rule of law, methods of political control, and political socialization. One way democratic and non democratic regimes can be compared is by their institutional structure. Both democratic and non democratic regimes have separate branches of government in place; however, in practice they differ. There is often an executive, legislative, and judicial branch set up to run the government, in both. In advanced democracies there seem to be more checks and balances in place between the branches, to prevent one branch from having all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In democratic regimes political socialization is often through family, schools, and the media. Especially in advanced democracies the level of civil society is pretty high. Civil society helps people to develop their own unique opinions. If there are activities that are not run by the state, there will probably be more opposition against the state, compared to a state without a strong civil society. In non democratic regimes when there are high levels of control the way people acquire their political beliefs are controlled by the government. The media is also a form of political socialization in non democratic regimes, but it may have a different affect. For example, in Russia, the media to mostly state owned. The government chooses what is put on TV or printed in the news. This makes it more difficult for opposing views to form against the government, if all they hear is information form the government. The political parties in Russia are not based on ideology but are rather personalized to the elite members of the government to support their aspirations. Political parties can be a way the separates political attitudes. If there is a lack of parties, people will mostly support the one major party. Although on the whole diversity spectrum it isn t, we see diversity in the age ranges of the jury members and in their different classes, and levels of education. The diversity helps the team in the aspect that it helps seem jury members see differently to others. It allowed some of them to give the defendant a chance and understand the circumstances he had be brought up in and the lifestyle he d lived in. An example would be when the kid was called slum by certain jury members whereas others gave him a chance. Only different upbringings and understandings would enable that understanding. 2) There were numerous examples of bias in the film. One example is when the defendant got labelled a delinquent , ... However, the motive of the educational system has been scrutinized over the years. There are many theories about its purpose. From following school rules, to learning critical thinking skills, everything that the schools facilitate and teachers teach are societal aspirations. These are the goals that are taught to reach the underlying purpose. The purpose of the educational system is that of a political nature; it is to produce citizens that are capable of maintaining and participating in a democracy. This idea needs to be broken down into its components for further understanding. What does the word compete mean? Upon reflection, it seems to conjure principles that lean towards producing citizens to ensure America s ability to compete in a global economy. What does the word global mean? The idea of someone who is global transfers that person s responsibility from their local and national capabilities to a broader sense. It implies that regardless of location in terms of geography, class, gender or ethnicity that a person s sole duty is to the world. (Skrbiš, 2014, p. 6). This is in strict contrast to the understanding of citizenship. So what does the word citizen mean? One of the key features of citizenship is a explicit relationship to a political community (Dower, 2000, p. 556). A citizen must have a nation, one in which legally recognizes them as such. There is no One World Nation and therefore can be no global citizens. The concept of the global citizen , its unexpressed convictions for now, remain just another aspiration that society should reach for. One that will still be taught by the masons. Sadly, however, It will only take form in a world that can nurture it and see it through to fruition. That world is still a dream. For now, our global ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Le Van Canh, Vietnam introduced CA (approach employed by Communicative Language Teaching) into its school system rather late than its neighbors such as China, Hong Kong, or Thailand (Canh, 2009). CLT replaced GMT when The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) organized the design of the new curriculum and the writing of new textbooks for all school subjects in 2002. However, the application of CA faces many challenges. The challenges are from the teachers, learners, the class constrains, the syllabus. Vietnamese students and teachers are still familiar with GTM that has influence on them for long time, so the change into the new one is not easy at all. In addition, the class size with over forty students per class is one thing that make us concern. Also, the mismatch between the textbook and testing system is another one concern as well. While textbook focuses on four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, testing still focuses on testing linguistic competences only on that grammar and reading only as Wang 2008 once stated while curriculum developers and textbook writers emphasize the adoption of a communicative approach to teaching, classroom pedagogy has remained textbook based, test oriented and teacher fronted ( cited in Canh Barrnard, 2009: 28). Each individual member of this audience belongs to a different mindset and has their own background knowledge associated with the news they are consuming. Although people read the news with different intent and expected gain of knowledge, they all get the same amount of information. The best way to begin to explain the audience s expectance of the news is to look at the ideas presented in Alfred Schutz s, The Well Informed Citizen . The man on the street is the general population who takes in information to stay relevant and maintain a stock of little insights to share with colleagues. They tend to only read the news article s lead, that first small paragraph that contains all the important information, they take that information and add it to their conversation starter list without considering its validity. Alfred Schutz s idea is that, This knowledge in all its vagueness is still sufficiently precise for the practical purpose at hand. (122). Explorers motives for discovery were strongly rooted in both economic growth and religious beliefs. However, Religion was not so much of a motivator as it was a way of justification for the atrocities committed by European explorers in the name of personal economic gains. Explorers and slave traders alike claimed that they were relieving the natives of their natural bestial tendencies, when in fact they were simply justifying their cruelty and torment of the indigenous people for the economic expansion of Europe. Explores and enslavers alike knew their actions in enslaving the indigenous peoples of Africa where deplorable, however, they continued them due to the believed justification of their actions through religious motives. As reported by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] (2014), Salmonella causes an estimated 1.2 million illnesses annually leading to 19,000 hospitalizations and a mortality of 380 (CDC, 2014). Because there are many things that can cause those symptoms, diagnosing Salmonella would depend on laboratory tests that identifies it in the stool of an individual that is infected (CDC, 2013). Further testing can help determine the specific type once Salmonella has been confirmed. These symptoms typically go away after 5 7 without treatment other than hydration. However, individuals with severe symptoms may require intravenous fluids or antibiotic therapy, most especially for young infants, older adults (over 65 years old) and immunocompromised persons (CDC, 2012). At age twenty Shirley enrolled at the University of Syracuse. There she met Stanley Edgar Hyman. Her and Hyman were later married in 1940. Her literary production increased tremendously after her marriage and the birth of their four children. Unfortunately with all of her success she was still human, with human problems. She was an agoraphobic and severely depressed. The may be why her stories are so far out in left field compared to what was being written at the time, and even today. Her writing was an outlet for her and this lead so many successful works of literature. Shirley Jackson s stories always seem to center on one thing: almost every story is about a protagonist s discovering or failing to discover or successfully ignoring an alternate way of perceiving a set of circumstances or the world. Often a change in the character s perspective leads to terror, anxiety, neurosis, or even loss of their identity. Jackson s most notable work The Lottery is a ghastly story that tells of the way people blindly follow traditions and conform to their society. God to the people of the big three monotheist religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) see god as an all knowing, all seeing, and all powerful being. I believe that that the Cosmological argument gives good reason to believe in the existence of God. The Cosmological argument focuses on everything having a cause except one thing that started it all, this starter is known as the Prime Mover . The Prime Mover is the one that starts everything without anything having a previous effect on it. With that people have assumed that the logical answer to who the prime mover is, is God. This to me seems the most logical of arguments because although there is the idea of eternity and an eternal cycle there has to be a starting point. I do not believe the argument is successful. The reason that the argument does not succeed is because what proof is there that the prime mover is an all powerful all mighty being? There could be alternate reasons related to science, The Big Bang Theory, which could also be a reason. One of Aquinas s arguments against the cosmological argument discussed that since everything in nature had a time where it did not exist there had to be a time where it was nothing to bring anything into being. His argument was if this was possible there was nothing around to bring the universe into being in the first place. Due to this a being such as God is not likely to have existed before to create it. In her early life as a child, she was put in an orphanage by her father after her mother s death. Her father worked as a peddler and didn t make enough money to take care of her. He barely made enough money to keep himself alive. The nuns of her orphanage taught her how to sew which became a vital know how for her career later on. To earn money to live on her own, she started a singing career at local clubs in Vichy and Moulins where her nickname Coco began. At about 20 years of age, Chanel began a relationship with Etienne Balsan who offered her money to help her start her career. She left Etienne for a wealthier friend of his, Arthur Boy Chapel. Both of these men were a key ingredient in Coco s first fashion experiment. When she opened her first shop on Paris s Rue Cambon in 1910, she sold hats. When she began making clothes, she put a store in Deauville and one in Biarritz. Her first successful piece of work was a dress she made from an old jersey. In 1925, she made the suit with a tight fitted skirt and a collarless jacket, popular. Her designs were made with things from a man s closet, but making them feminine. • 27. Significance Of Race, By Ralph Eubanks s Color Lines In the essay Color Lines by Ralph Eubanks, the author explores the flawed logic of race from a scientific perspective. In the article, Eubanks explains the fact that a person cannot know the ancestry of another person or the nature of that person by looking at their race alone. Heritage is a much more complex concept than a simple racial categorization. In writing the article, the author sought to demonstrate that when looking at a person, you could not confirm their identity based on what percentage of a certain race they may have and that social construction meant to depict one group as being superior or inferior to another. This rhetorical analysis will therefore explore the importance of the rhetorical devices and strategies used by Eubanks to communicate with the audience. One of the effective strategies that Eubanks uses to deconstruct race is the reference to science and technology, with this strategy Eubanks is appealing to the readers ethos. This strategy is effective for the article because it is both reliable and well understood by the audience. The target audience is obviously aware of the role that DNA has played in the modern society and the author refers to this important piece of technology while delivering his message. In a way, Eubanks is arguing that if one can rely on DNA evidence in an argument, it can also be used to downplay the role of race in modern society. Using DNA, the author sets up to demonstrate how complex people s heritage is, and how a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also, why can t people around the world be happy for them? Why is being gay wrong if it s something that makes that person happy? It upsets me how much cruelty there is around us, especially with people who want to love others of the same gender as them. Honestly if someone is a part of the LGBT community it is perfectly fine in my opinion. If everyone was treated the same and not judge other people for who they are then there would be less hate in the world. Allport stated that it is very unlikely that people just possessed one personality characteristic (Fleming, 2006). He claimed that personality exists in a psychological matrix meaning within a person, that people possessed traits which can be categorized into levels, which in turn allows there to be comparison among different individuals (Liebert, R. Allport also recognized that it is important to understand individuals within themselves, and that it is necessary to recognize some characteristics are not universal/transferable among individuals (Liebert, R. To list the all the contributions Allport made to the academic world would be too much, in short, he among other scholars introduced an extensive list of adjectives that were descriptive of individual behaviours (Fleming, 2006). Lacking necessary agreement among classifications and definitions of the many personality traits, the further development of personality theories in the 1960 s was brought to halt.
