Development of Silicon Valley
Introduction
Until the middle of the century, the region of Northern California we call Silicon Valley, was
known as the Valley of Heart s Delight. At that time it was better known for its apricots and
walnuts than for its cutting edge technology. The first time the term Silicon Valley was used, was
in 1971 when a journalist wrote a couple of articles in Electronic News, a weekly electronic
industry tabloid, about the semiconductor industry around Palo Alto, California. Silicon Valleyhas
since then transformed into a region filled with high tech industry leaders who are constantly
developing the most cutting edge technology. The world we live in now is filled with electronics,
computers, and high speed internet communication, and this ... Show more content on

The Stanford Research Institute was a West Coast center of innovation to support economic
development in the region (Gromov). The great innovations in electronics eventually led to the
invention of the world s first digital computer in 1953. In 1955 Stanford graduate student Dr.
William Shockley founded a company called Shockley Transistor. He had developed a transistor
based on the principle of amplifying an electrical current using a solid semi conducting material,
which was a suitable alternative for the devices used up to then. The concept was based on the fact
that it is possible to selectively control the flow of electricity through silicon. The resultant
discoveries combined to form the basic concept behind the compact electrical transfer resistor , the
transistor, that was to power the coming High Tech Revolution.
The High Tech Revolution
The High Tech Revolution began when companies were able to use the micro sized transistors
made exclusively in silicon when integrating large numbers of integrated circuits, which are an
essential part of electronics. With the help of these transistors, the companies using them were able
to rapidly join the California electronics industry. Companies such as Intel, Signetics (now Philips
Semiconductors), National Semiconductors and AMD, were among the first in Silicon Valley to
use this new technology. They became the core of the semiconductor industry in Silicon Valley.

The War Against Terror and China s Treatment of the Uigher Ethnic Minority
In the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States, President George W. Bush
reached out to the world to back the U.S. in a war to eradicate terrorism. One of the more surprising
participants in this coalition, China, had until that point been at odds with U.S. policy but seemed to
find sufficient common ground with the U.S. to support the war. In recent months however, China
has not been lauded for unprecedented cooperation with its strategic competitor but has instead
been criticized for using the war on terror as carte blanche to step up its Strike Hard campaign in the
Uigher Xinjiang Autonomous Region in the northwest, resulting in ... Show more content on

Between 1944 and 1949 the Turkic Islamic Republic of Eastern Turkestan was established; this
short lived period of impendence came to an end when the Communist Party formerly incorporated
the province into the PRC with the agreement of the leaders of the Eastern Turkestan Republic.
[1]The agreement of the leadership did not, however, quell the movement for independence; a
number of political and religious leaders refused to accept Beijing as the legitimate authority over
the region. In the midst of the widespread upheaval of the Cultural Revolution, the separatist
movement was able to organize into the Eastern Turkestan People s Party, although fear of Red
Guard attacks were pervasive and prevented any significant expression of minority or separatist
sentiment.[2] The demise of the Maoist era, however, would bring reforms and consequently new
justifications and opportunities for expression of separatist sentiment among the Uigher population.
Deng Xiaoping s accession to power brought with it reform and opening policies intended to bring
about the modernization and industrialization of China. This brought about serious demands on
natural resources such as oil, in which Xinjiang is abundant. The arrival of companies to extract
these natural resources brought an influx of Han Chinese and a noticeable distinction between the
lifestyles and opportunities

Cherokee Indian Rights Of Passage Analysis
Rights of passage are a big part in your life and your relatives. There are many rites of passage
and they all differ from each other. The Medicine Bag , The Apache Girl ,and the Cherokee
Indians all have to face their right of passage. The Medicine Bag is about a boy named Martin
who is given a medicine bag as his right of passage. The Apache Girl is about a girl named
Dachina who s rite of passage leads her into womanhood. The Cherokee Indians right of passage
has the boy sit through the night alone in a forest to show that he is a man. These 3 stories have
many similarities and differences in their rites of passage. They also are written in different
formats which makes your understanding of the topic different. The Medicine Bag , The
Apache Girl , and the Cherokee Indians all have very similar rites of passage. They all have to
accomplish something to become a woman or a man in their tribe. The Apache Girl and the
Cherokee Indians both have to show strength and confidence. Dacina has to dance for 10 hours
and the Cherokee Indians have to sit on a log through the night with a blindfold on. This helps
them show that they are strong enough to become a member of the tribe. The Medicine Bag and
the Cherokee Indians also have similar rights of passage because they both don t have to face
their journey alone. During Martin s right of passage his grandpa passes the bag down to him and

Three Religions and Three Holy Cities
Southwest Asia is home to a variety of cultures as well as religions. It has an significant past with
three major religions: Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. It is quite remarkable that Southwest Asia
has been a holy place for all three, and although it causes turmoil it is important to understand the
three religions and their customs. Such information may help us not to judge so quickly or
perhaps to grow in our knowledge about the world. Hopefully this will help everyone to have a
wider view of the world than just the town they reside in or even the country they live in.
Islam Islam is the religion founded from the teachings of the prophet Muhammad. It is often
depicted as a violent and irrational religion by the United States. This is not entirely true and
although some of its customs may seem hostile there is always a reason for them. We must learn
to respect the opinions of everyone and make correct choices for ourselves accordingly. Islam is
represented by a crescent moon and a star. The moon is depicted as waxing or waning. Islam has
Three Major Holy cities: Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem. The symbolic essence of the religious
holidays of Islam are quite large and are celebrated slightly different according to your
denomination. For example, if you are a Sunni Muslim then you would not participate in the act of
beating yourself and cutting yourself as a Shi ite Muslim would practice on the holy day of Ashura.
Other popular Islamic holidays include Maulid, the

Analysis Of The Book The One
The One is filled with at least one secret of every character you have met in the previous chapter.
Not only this book but the entire series is engaging as every page as a new secret revealed about
one of the characters. This book is a type of book that you will be reading and think about every
moment of your life. This bookdoes not just have the final decision of the selection, but it also
includes the secret behind how IllГ©a was found by Gregory IllГ©a. Also his personal diaries are

The author did make sure that just like America is the favorite of Maxon even this book would
become the new favorite of the readers. For boys the first book, The Selection is written from
both Maxon s and Aspen s perspective which will intrigue them into reading a book from a boy s
perspective, as most of the princess books are all about a happy ending, and crown, but not this
one. From the previous two book you would have got an image on how Kris is as a character,
but this book will change your perspective on her and King Clarkson. The One is all about the
everyone s opinion and standing up to the expectations of IllГ©a, as the country is going through a
rough time where both the southern rebels are continuously attacking, but this time it is worse
than what you have read in the previous two books. This book will meet the expectations of each
reader on whether you prefer fiction or nonfiction, Science fiction or histprial fictions. This book
can be catorigized into any genre. Although The One is a fiction book, it is written as a nonfiction
way as it might be the future for the United States. The US might owe a lot of money to China,
and be debt causing a hero to take over the country making the country start all over again. In the
past we had monarchy, and we still have it in some countries like; Bhutan. The future might not be

Teaching Assistant Report
The fascination and interest in text can be kept up with daily reading sessions. This will spark
their interest in decoding words. The teaching assistant will help with these skills including
reminding the child or their alphabet and phonic sounds to assist with decoding. Modelling is a
key supporting method for learning literacy both with speaking and writing words. In reading to
children, the teaching assistant will be showing them how to read fluently and how their voice can
help make sense of the text being read. Hearing modelled reading can lead to an increased interest
in reading, an improvement in vocabulary and more knowledge of the world around them. It is
important for children to read regularly, if not daily. This may be within the school... Show more

Differentiation can be guided by a teaching assistant. The teacher will plan guided reading sessions
where the children are divided into their appropriate reading abilities. During the week, each group
will rotate with the teacher ensuring that the teacher is able to help improve their fluency and
investigation through reading instruction at their own reading levels. In turn, the teaching assistant
will give reading instruction to a separate group who will be working towards questioning the text
they are reading through comprehension. During these sessions, there will be emphasis on
speaking and listening together, and reading and writing together. These sessions also allow
additional groups to work independently, reading at their own specific level. The roles of the
teacher and teaching assistant in this area are interchangeable and dependent on the
teacher’s planning. There are other strategies that assist in this area including repetition and

Argumentative Essay On Muscle Cars
Muscle Cars with Shaker Hoods
The Classic Muscle Car with a Shaker Hood
Owning a muscle car with a shaker hood isn t for everybody. Even fans of aggressive looking
hood scoops would sometimes rather see them as part of the sheet metal hood structure as opposed
to a giant sized and oddly shaped air cleaner.
However, for those wanting to see their engine come to life, while sitting in the driver seat, this
option will continue to be a popular one. Here we ll discuss some of the All American muscle
cars that made this option available. We ll also discuss a few problems associated with an air
scoop connected to a moving engine, protruding like a periscope through a large hole cut in the
hood.
Background on the Shaker Hood
Although you probably already know where the name comes from, let s quickly give this part a
definition and discuss its origins. In 1969 the [Ford Mustang design team] was looking for a
unique hood scoop to use on their aggressive V8 engines. Customers in the muscle car market

Lord Byron and the Romantic Period Essay
Lord Byron s works, such as Don Juan and other poems reflect not only the suave and charming
characteristics of the Romantic Period, but they also reveal the nature of Byron s uncommitted
and scandalous life. Byron, like most Romantic era authors, was very unpredictable and
opinionated in all of his writings. From the hatred of his upbringing, to the love of adventure, and
also to the love of meaningless relationships with various women were majorly influenced and
illustrated through all of his works and especially in Don Juan. Yet he still managed to infiltrate his
poems with charm, romance, and heroism. Byron was a perfect fit for the Romantic Period and his
poems and he was therefore known as a great contributor towards the era.... Show more content on

They found peace among the sublime things in life describing grand landscapes to rural villages.
The first generation also wrote about the importance of education, human rights, women rights, and
helped to return the credit of nature back to God. The poets voiced their opinion in a very calm
and collective way that was vastly different than that of the second generation. The second
generation was the group of poets better known for their rebellious and opinionated poems. This
generation shifted from voicing their opinions of the civil rights, and the French Revolution to their
feelings about the Industrial Revolution and the egotistic and prideful mindset of aristocrats, of
whom most of the poets belonged. The author, often, would use the poems they wrote to portray
themselves or a visionary part of themselves, either way the second generation wrote in a more
arrogant and selfish tone. One of the greatest poets that portrayed these mannerisms was George
Gordon, or better known as Lord Byron. The common theme of Byron s poems was that of the
typical romantic heroic actions, and filled with an adulterous attitude ( English Literature: The
Romantic Period ). To understand why Byron wrote in this way you must first understand his
upbringing and the things he learned growing up. Byron, born on January 22, 1788, in Aberdeen
England, was born to the very aristocratic and wealthy Catherine Gordon and highly ranked naval

Impact Of Colonialism And The Missionary Endeavor On Ibo...
The impact of colonialism and the missionary endeavor on Ibo society in Things Fall Apart novel
Introduction
Things Fall Apart novel tries to re erect cultural, social as well as spiritual basics of traditional
Igbo (Ibo) existence from the year 1850 and 1900. Conversely, the novel cannot be inferred like
truthful societal and political olden times of Ibo society since it is a work of invented story.
However, the novel describes disagreements and apprehensions in Igbo society. It also depicts
changes initiated by colonial ruling and Christianity. The author asserts that European colonialism
operates as a powerful as well as well built mediator of the change within Ibo society (Achebe,
2000). Additionally, Christianity attracted the trivial associates of the Igbo society. Igbo and other
societies were altered considerably due to this variety of deal with Europeans. A few societies
expanded in dimension and authority as marketable centers, whereas others go through great losses
in the course of slave invasion. Hostility get higher, and conflict tactics distorted due to the coming
of weapons.
In articulating the accomplishment of Catholic Missionaries Hatch, Roman Catholics appeared to
be most helpful within the endeavor, thereby protecting a paramount place within Igbo society.
According to Chinua Achebe, Educational expansion was the invention of Igbo confined
organization but not of British supervision. As a result, other operation schools such as Anglican

Through the line of special needs cases, the Supreme Court has created an exception to the broad
principle that a search requires a warrant. Special needs arise when there is a compelling
government interest that allows for the warrantless search of ordinary citizens. These searches
involve groups who maintain substantial expectations of privacy: the public at large, or classes of
law abiding citizens. The government interest must go beyond normal law enforcement. For
example, inspections to ensure residents are in compliance with ordinance codes are exempted. In
Martinez Fuerte, the Court extended the special needs exception to include warrantless searches of

Event venues can be rather big and you want to ensure your company logo is seen by as many
people as possible, not just those that happen to walk past your stall. For this, walkaround robots
is a great, creative way to showcase the logo. Walkaround robots come in a variety of shapes and
sizes you can choose something that fits with your overall branding or the theme of the event.
Now, these robots can then feature your logo, either in a sticker format or as a digital version on
a display. In addition, the robots can perform different types of special effects which will
guarantee the eventgoers pay attention to the robot when it goes past. You could even get
robots that can greet people or answer questions regarding your business. Coffee Artists to Serve

can provide the visitors some treats, you are sure to be one of the stalls they visit. One quirky
way to combine a treat with a branding opportunity is by using coffee artists to create your logo.
This means that you have a coffee bar at the event. When someone orders a coffee, the barista
will create your logo on top of the cup the person will immediately notice the logo and make a note
of your business. Of course, they also get to enjoy a super good coffee experience! It s also

Dual Relationship
Statement one and two are essential when conducting a dual relationship with a patient. Statement
one, includes discussing the limitations of the proposed relationship. This could include situations
such as, outside of our therapy session we cannot discuss that content as friends (Kenyon, 1999, p.
63). Though that may be an unrealistic example, it is still an illustration of a rule set to differ
between the two relationships. Statement two discusses serving the all clients with respect,
integrity and keeping their welfare into consideration always (Kenyon, 1999, p. 63). This is a huge
responsibility to all patients but is something you will need to be constantly re evaluating in a dual
relationship. Asking yourself questions throughout the process is imperative. For example, the
question of, is my professional or personal image of this person affecting the quality of care I can
give them? Statement eight is the most important as it deals with the probable ethical conflicts that
can rise from dual or multiple relationships. The statement most certainly discourages having dual
relationships but does not firmly forbid them (Kenyon, 1999, p. 64). Ramona, Jessica and Della are
excellent examples of how there are times dual relationships can be unavoidable (Kenyon,... Show

that patient consent to having you as a part of their care plan and can you as the provider remain

Hiv And Treatment Adherence By Bobbi Marie Pollard
HIV and Treatment Adherence
Bobbi Marie Pollard
Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a
chronic illness, however, for those with access to health care and treatment, it is a very manageable
condition. Although it is no longer considered a death sentence in developed countries, it is still a
highly stigmatized illness. The public may no longer perceive HIV as the plague it once was, yet
there has been no decline in the number of new infections per year in the past decade in the United
States (Catalan et al., 2000). Today, people are living longer with HIV due to the development of
combination antiretroviral drug therapies (ART). ART has provided significant progress in treatment
(Linsk et al., 2002). Treatment accessibility and medication adherence are crucial in order to
continue manage the disease on both the individual and public level.
Overview of HIV/AIDS
HIV and AIDS are sometimes used interchangeably, although there is a significant difference, and
some HIV positive individuals will never develop Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
Testing HIV positive means there are antibodies present in the system. HIV is classified into two
phases: symptomatic and asymptomatic. Individuals show signs of a compromised immune system

The Tridentine Rite And The Novus Ordo Rite
The two most common rites of the Mass are the Tridentine rite and the Novus Ordo rite. The
Tridentine rite was used before Vatican II and is now, mostly, replaced by the Novus Ordo rite.
These two rites have many similarities and differences. One of the most distinct differences is that
the Tridentine rite is said in the language of the Church, that being Latin, while the Novus Ordo
rite is said in any native language of that area. Another obvious difference is that, in the Tridentine
rite, the priest faces the high altar while, in the Novus Ordo rite, the priest faces the congregation.
One other difference is that, in the Tridentine rite, most of the responses are said by the altar boys
and rarely said by the congregation. When one who

The National Alliance For End Homelessness Essay
One of the simplest pieces of knowledge we acquire in elementary school (for future growth and
development) are the three basic needs a living organism requires for living: food, water, and
shelter. However, not everyone has access to all of these essentials. Homeless people are faced
with awful conditions and suffer more due to poor weather conditions, diseases, and lack of safety.
There hasn t been much progress on this issue, and if this continues, the number of homeless people
will only increase. In a few states the topic is being named as a statewide emergency , but
unfortunately this problem is national. Instead of focusing on state programs, local programs and
non profit organizations to fix the housing issue, we must all contribute to ending this epidemic.
The National Alliance to End Homelessness(NAEH) released an article stating, In January 2015,
564,708 people were homeless on a given night in the United States (Snapshot of Homelessness).
We must develop a solution to end long term homelessness immediately. The best way of solving
this issue is to provide stable long term housing, which is a term used to describe the home s
environment and financial status.
The most logical solution for homelessness is a project known as Housing First. The Housing First
program was first launched by Tanya Tull, an individual with first hand experience of povertyand
advocate for homelessness, due to an increasing number of homeless people in the 1990s.

The Dangers Of Teen Driving
Introduction Teen driving allows American youth to have their license between the ages 13 15.
At this age, our American youth are more likely to be careless while driving without supervision.
The younger teen drivers are the more susceptible to fatal car accidents they will be due to the
lack of supervision and proper driver s education. Lack of maturity and experiences leads to
developing poor drivinghabits. The teens in the age group 16 18 are usually more mature in
handling a motorized vehicle. States that allow 13 15 year old teens drive are more likely to get in
more car crashes from driving earlier and not having enough experience.
Theoretical Basis: Conflict Perspective The conflict perspective best explains the issue of young
teen driving and their high number of crashes. States in America believe that teens should practice
to get ready to pass the behind the wheel test. The more people practice behind the wheel, the better
they are at driving a motorized vehicle. So, it is important that teens received the best opportunity
they can with the behind the wheel driving supervisor in order to potentially reduce fatal car
crashes among teens in America.
Individualized instruction is different for each state for behind the wheel. Some states do not
have enough supervised hours which puts teens at the top of fatal crash rates. Individual states
that have about 40 or more supervised hours and have lower crash rates are for example, the state
of Minnesota. This state has 40 supervised hours for teens of which they have to log before they
are able to take the drivers test. ( The Children s Hospital...).
In Minnesota if the parents do not attend the drivers education meeting before the class starts
their child would have to log 50 hours before they turn 16 to take their driver s test. This helps
since Minnesota has 40 or more supervised hours to practice driving. Minnesota is in the first
group for not having fatal car crashes in teens. South Dakota has one of the worst teen fatal car
crash rates mostly because they have no supervised hours to meet before they take the behind the
wheel test. This demonstrate an example of the conflict theory because due to lack of resources a
conflict has occurred for

To Kill A Mockingbird Hatred Quotes
Hatred
Racism is man s gravest threat to man the maximum of hatred for a minimum of reason, said
Abraham Joshua Heschel, scholar and philosopher. This quote from Abraham means that racism
and hatred aren t doing anything but hurting us in the end by causing wars, arguments, and hurt
feelings. Hatred can be seen in everyday life and in every single person on Earth, but can t be
stopped because you can t change people s feelings. Hatred is also shown in To Killa Mockingbird,
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, The Merchant of Venice
, and in the Holocaust.

Atticus said this after Bob spit in Atticus s face because he didn t like Atticus defending Tom and
by trying to prove Bob s daughter guilty. Bob also said that he would get him if it took the rest of
his life after he spit. Bob obviously showed hatred by what he did in that part. The last example
from To Kill a Mockingbird is when Mr.Radley shot at the kids when they trespassed onto his
property. He had a reason for shooting it but he obviously showed hatred to anyone that stepped
foot on his property.
The first example of hatred shown in The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian is when
Rowdy cuts off the Andruss Brothers braids and eyebrows after they beat up Junior. This is
shown by the quote, I m going to kill those bastards, said Rowdy (Alexie, 21). Rowdy definitely
showed hatred because cutting off someone s braids on a reservation like that is a big deal when
they take such pride in their braids. Hey, Chief, Roger said (Alexie, 64). This quote comes from
the part where Roger makes a racist joke and Junior feels he has to fight him. Junior shows
hatred towards Roger by saying that the joke was the most racist thing that he has ever heard and
by punching him in the face. Another example of hatred from the book is when Junior tells
Rowdy he is leaving and Rowdy gets mad at him and refuses to talk to him. When you get that

Essay on Media and Violence
Introduction
In this essay I will be analysing whether less visual violence within the media would mean less
violence on the streets. Firstly, I will be questioning whether there is a connection between the
viewing of media violence and actual acting upon it. To do this I will analyse the usefulness of the
different methods used to approach such as complex issue. To illustrate this I will use examples of
different media forms that seem to have been a catalyst for acts of violence. I will then attempt to
come to a conclusion on whether less media violence could mean less acts of violence. Define

Research
Some argue that watching violence on screen may have a negative effect on the individual and
may lead to that individual imitating that act. Many researchers especially psychologist have
carried out studies attempting to prove that there is a correlation between the two commonly
using experiments with the use of observations (Boyle, 2005). The most common way that
researchers go about answering the question is by selecting a group of children, making them
watch something which has a level of violence and analyses the way the children react to it after
they have watched it (Bandura et al, 1963). There are many flaws when conducting such as study,
one of them being that the study highly lacks in reliability. Even if there appears to be a link
between media violence and street violence, the results would not be geographically consistent if
the study was repeated as they fail to realise that the social situation of every individual is different,

Comparing Odyssey And Perseus Of Homer s Odyssey
If I were to summarize Clash of the Titans, it would be that Perseus, son of Zeus, watched his
entire family die as a result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, as a result of which he
pursues the gorgon medusa in order to use her head to defeat the kraken. My summery of the
Greek version would be that, Perseus; son of Zeus was cast out on the ocean with his mother in
a trunk. After being discovered by a fisherman, Perseus grows up accepting his godly half, goes
after medusa to save his mother s marriage. In the process he saves a women who soon became
his wife using the head of the gorgon, Medusa. Though the story and movie were from very
different time periods there are still several similarities. Several similarities between the movie and
Greek version include, Perseus saved a women using the head of the then slain gorgon medusa.
Another similarity would be that he and his mother were found in the ocean floating in a trunk in
both versions. Yet another similarity between the versions would be that, Perseus refuses to live on
Olympus with his father. In both versions, the reason for the princess being sacrificed, result from
the queen insulting the beauty of the goddess Aphrodite. Another big similarity between both
versions would be that Perseus unknowingly fulfilled a prophecy.... Show more content on

Hypertext and Literary Study Essay
Hypertext and Literary Study
Hypertextual fiction (hyperfiction) and other hypertext applications are making their way into the
literature courses where, Professor Larry Friedlander says, learning has basically meant the study
of texts, in the form of the printed word (257). And these newer works, inseparable from their
contemporary technologies, offer the possibility of a very different type of literary study than the
one most English majors experience in traditional literature courses. Print and book technology
perpetuate and validate linear experience, thought, and narratives, which buttresses a hierarchical

I. Fixed in Print: Our Inheritances from the Renaissance
As readers and as scholars many of us tend not to identify the organizational layout of print books as
evidence of socially valued formats regarding the proper forms of narrative, thought, and conveying
meaning. To many modern readers print technology is just the natural form for narrative
entertainment or study. Although printed texts just seem natural, they reinforce concepts of
stability, finality, authority, and even immortality. The pursuit of a final authoritative, authentic text
not unrelated to the final draft students submit in literature courses is an endeavor of great
historical significance, especially in terms of literary history. It was establishing the original text
that the Renaissance scholars thought their main task ..., notes Richard Lanham, The aim of all

Eassy On Homework
Homework was an essential feature of my own life whilst growing up. If memory serves me
correct, the practice was always considered important and was enforced throughout grade school
by both my teachers and parents. I remember coming home from school in second grade and
completing a thick booklet of blank, squared pages that required me to print my numbers out from
1 1000. I sat at the kitchen table to complete it, with all seven of my family members conversing
around me, as I was a child that lacked an adequate place to study. Envy invaded my mind as my
brothers and sisters played joyfully around me, making it difficult to remain concentrated;
nevertheless, I was forced to sit at the table until the booklet was completed. Instances such as the
one previously mentioned were a regular occurrence in my youth and negatively impacted my
playtime, although my brothers and sisters eventually joined me at the table to complete their own
homework.
Completing homework was a necessity in my household, and failing to do so would result in harsh
consequences. One particular instance of an incomplete homework assignment stands out
prominently in my memory. As I got older, my interests grew, but the amount of homework that I
was required to accomplish gradually increased as well. During my upper level elementary years, I
was absolutely obsessed with the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. In the final month of sixth
grade I was assigned a year end project to complete for English Language Arts. Unfortunately, the
assignment became a conflict of interest for me owing to the fact that the weekend that it was
assigned was also the weekend in which I would be acquiring the new Harry Potter and the Order
of the Phoenix book at the pre release event at midnight.
While at the bookstore with my mother, jumping with excitement might I add, she asked me if I
had any homework to complete over the weekend and explained to me that if I did, the book
would have to wait until summer vacation arrived before I could begin reading it. Upon receiving
this information, I lied to my mother and told her that our teacher did not give any homework
during the last week of school because I did not want the book withheld from me until doing so. The

Basic History Overview
Wal Mart s history is one of innovation, leadership and success. It started with a single store in
Rogers, Arkansas in 1962 and has grown to what is now the world s largest and arguably, the most
emulated retailer. Some researchers refer to Wal Mart as the industry trendsetter. Today, this retailing
pioneer has annual revenues of over $100 billion, 3,000 stores and more than 750,000 employees
worldwide. Wal Mart operates each store, from the products it stocks, to the front end equipment
that helps speed checkout, with the same philosophy: provide everyday low prices and superior
customer service. Lower prices also eliminate the expense of frequent sales promotions and sales

What tactics has it used to become a major global retailer?
Wal Mart s success is mainly based on its concentration of a single business strategy. This strategy
has achieved enviable success over the last three decades without relying upon diversification to
sustain its growth and competitive advantages. In a sense, Wal Mart s low prices, service, and
smile are their leading marketing strategies. However, there is risk in this strategy, because
concentration on a single business strategy is similar to putting all of a firm s eggs in one
industry basket . On the business side, Wal Mart is the country s most sophisticated retailer in
terms of using information systems. Their cross docking inventory and transportation services
able them to have the goods needed by the consumer at all times. In order for Wal Mart to
become a major global retailer, they have closely examined and utilized tactics to profit from their
many stores. One great tactic is starting free trade zone distribution centers, in turn, saving almost
$500,000 annually. Another tactic includes their service from when you walk in the store to when
you leave. Also, their bread and butter is again the technology they utilize. They can track how
much of one item has been sold on any giving day, and if not a hot commodity at one store, they
will ship it out to another where it is being sold much faster.
2. Can Wal Mart sustain its competitive advantage in global retailing?

Disadvantages Of Bananas
You have probably heard of the recommendation that you should eat five fruits and vegetables per
day. Bananas are an excellent choice as one of your five per day. They contain a high amount of the
vitamins and minerals that your body needs and will provide you with many health benefits.
Bananas are high calories. According to some research, every 100 grams of bananas contains as
much as 378 joules. In some tropic areas, people feed themselves on bananas. But there are hidden
dangers if you eat too many bananas. This fruit also enjoys high reputation for its varied nutrition.
There are about 20 grams of carbohydrates, 1.2 grams of proteins, 0.6 grams of fat and other
various kinds of minerals and vitamins in every 100 grams of bananas. Of all the nutrition, vitamins
overwhelm the others. For instance, vitamin A can promote the growth of the human body and
improve the human body s immune system. It is necessary to maintain the procreation and protect
the eyes. And thiamine is useful to prevent and cure the beriberi and protect the nervous system as
well. Moreover, the riboflavin helps with the growth and development of children.
Bananas are ready to serve as a kind of fruit. They can be processed as well. For example, cooked
bananas are made into powders and then used as additives in cakes and bread. Or after fermented,
people can extract alcohol from them or produce banana wine. Mature bananas are also processed
into preserved fruit, juice or essence. Furthermore, the

Louisiana. Charged with the organization of troops to defend the states of Texas, Missouri,
Arkansas, Louisiana, and the Indian Territory, he had the appropriate authority but very few
resources. With limited forces, he imposed martial law throughout Arkansas in order to seize
munitions, gather supplies, and enforce the Conscription Act. He initiated the rationing of
goods and ordered the forming of independent Guerilla bands. Groups known as the Bands of

The subject of courage and cowardice is brought up quite a few times in Tim O Brien s novel The

that is notable in his description of courage and cowardice is that he doesn t draw a clear line
between the two. In fact, author contradicts himself, since he indirectly hints that courageous act,
might as well be the cowardly one.

Analysis Of The Movie Big Sleep
No other film was as controlled in its production as The Big Sleep. Every aspect of the film is so
precise, that the filmmakers left nothing to chance. Every set was built inside, with the exception
of a few exterior shots. The Big Sleep is a very visually interesting film that uses quick and precise
cutting, harsh lighting, and wonderfully framed shots. The editing in The Big Sleepis extremely
quick and precise, yet it is perfectly seamless. The cuts do not call any attention to themselves at
all. These types of cuts are present in almost ever scene, but for example, the scene when Marlowe
(Humphrey Bogart) is looking through the house and finds the hidden camera uses a very specific
editing style. The editor uses a wider of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the actors are wearing darker clothing as well which makes their faces stand out even
more. This lighting style also adds to the tension and the mystery of the scene. It makes the
audience on edge. The contrast filled lighting of film noir is also effective at bringing out the
extremes of emotions and thought. The darkness of the genre makes anything that goes wrong
seem less taboo, because the lighting of the genre sets up the norms for the world that the film lives
in and in that world, bad things happen. The lighting of the film helps the audience understand the
world that the characters are in. Every aspect of The Big Sleep was taken even further with perhaps
Alfred Hitchcock s best film, Psycho. One of the most interesting elements of this film is how the
main character and plot completely changes halfway through the film. For the first part of the
film, the audience follows Marion Crane (Janet Leigh). Marion is in love with Sam Loomis
(John Gavin) and decides to skip town after she steals $40,000 dollars from the company she
works for. She eventually arrives at the Bates Motel where she meets Norman Bates (Anthony
Perkins), who runs the motel for his mother. In a twist of events, Marion is killed in a dramatic
shower scene, after which the story completely shifts to follow the investigation of Marion s
disappearance, as well as the mystery of Norman and his mother. This is a very experimental way
of structuring a film, but worked

Philanthropy Reader By John Rockfeller
#2 In the book Philanthropy reader , a variety of philanthropy philosophies are discussed; However,
in this class, we have talked about three different types of philanthropy, the types of philanthropy
are Effective altruism, philanthropic locals, and conservative philanthropy. Personally, I believe
that if every individual has the same philanthropymindset, all of these would be successful and
solve social problems that the world is facing. Obviously, in today s society, everyone has their
beliefs and support a different kind of philanthropy. Personally, I am a supporter of all three
ideologies, because I think they go hand in hand. What I mean with hand in hand is the fact that
we all should start with taking care of ourselves and family before we start taking care of others.
In the book philanthropy reader, John Rockfeller argues about The difficult art of giving , and he
states: If people can be educated to help themselves, we strike at the root of many of the evils in
the world (412). This shows that philanthropy starts by taking care of yourself, and when people
manage to look out for themselves, they can start looking out for other people as well. When it...

If I would donate my money, it would be with an intention of goodness of my heart, and not
something I would do to make myself feel better in one way or another. A problem in today s
society, is the fact that people do not give to help the people in need, they donate to make
themselves look good, and that is wrong. My reason for giving would be similar to Bill Gates,
because he found an issue that could help the most amount of people, and invested in it. If I would
give my money to a charity, it would be to a charity that I feel passionate about, because if I feel
passionate about something, I would put my heart and soul in it to make a significant

At that time it was better known for its apricots and walnuts than for its cutting edge technology. The first time the term Silicon Valley was used, was in 1971 when a journalist wrote a couple of articles in Electronic News, a weekly electronic industry tabloid, about the semiconductor industry around Palo Alto, California. The great innovations in electronics eventually led to the invention of the world s first digital computer in 1953. In 1955 Stanford graduate student Dr. William Shockley founded a company called Shockley Transistor. He had developed a transistor based on the principle of amplifying an electrical current using a solid semi conducting material, which was a suitable alternative for the devices used up to then. The concept was based on the fact that it is possible to selectively control the flow of electricity through silicon. The resultant discoveries combined to form the basic concept behind the compact electrical transfer resistor , the transistor, that was to power the coming High Tech Revolution. The High Tech Revolution The High Tech Revolution began when companies were able to use the micro sized transistors made exclusively in silicon when integrating large numbers of integrated circuits, which are an essential part of electronics. With the help of these transistors, the companies using them were able to rapidly join the California electronics industry. Companies such as Intel, Signetics (now Philips Semiconductors), National Semiconductors and AMD, were among the first in Silicon Valley to use this new technology. In the midst of the widespread upheaval of the Cultural Revolution, the separatist movement was able to organize into the Eastern Turkestan People s Party, although fear of Red Guard attacks were pervasive and prevented any significant expression of minority or separatist sentiment.[2] The demise of the Maoist era, however, would bring reforms and consequently new justifications and opportunities for expression of separatist sentiment among the Uigher population. Deng Xiaoping s accession to power brought with it reform and opening policies intended to bring about the modernization and industrialization of China. Hiv And Treatment Adherence By Bobbi Marie Pollard HIV and Treatment Adherence Bobbi Marie Pollard Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a chronic illness, however, for those with access to health care and treatment, it is a very manageable condition. Although it is no longer considered a death sentence in developed countries, it is still a highly stigmatized illness. The public may no longer perceive HIV as the plague it once was, yet there has been no decline in the number of new infections per year in the past decade in the United States (Catalan et al., 2000). Today, people are living longer with HIV due to the development of combination antiretroviral drug therapies (ART). ART has provided significant progress in treatment (Linsk et al., 2002). Treatment accessibility and medication adherence are crucial in order to continue manage the disease on both the individual and public level. The National Alliance For End Homelessness Essay One of the simplest pieces of knowledge we acquire in elementary school (for future growth and development) are the three basic needs a living organism requires for living: food, water, and shelter. However, not everyone has access to all of these essentials. Homeless people are faced with awful conditions and suffer more due to poor weather conditions, diseases, and lack of safety. There hasn t been much progress on this issue, and if this continues, the number of homeless people will only increase. In a few states the topic is being named as a statewide emergency , but unfortunately this problem is national. Instead of focusing on state programs, local programs and non profit organizations to fix the housing issue, we must all contribute to ending this epidemic. The National Alliance to End Homelessness(NAEH) released an article stating, In January 2015, 564,708 people were homeless on a given night in the United States (Snapshot of Homelessness). We must develop a solution to end long term homelessness immediately. The best way of solving this issue is to provide stable long term housing, which is a term used to describe the home s environment and financial status. • 24. The Dangers Of Teen Driving Introduction Teen driving allows American youth to have their license between the ages 13 15. At this age, our American youth are more likely to be careless while driving without supervision. The younger teen drivers are the more susceptible to fatal car accidents they will be due to the lack of supervision and proper driver s education. Lack of maturity and experiences leads to developing poor drivinghabits. The teens in the age group 16 18 are usually more mature in handling a motorized vehicle. States that allow 13 15 year old teens drive are more likely to get in more car crashes from driving earlier and not having enough experience. Theoretical Basis: Conflict Perspective The conflict perspective best explains the issue of young teen driving and their high number of crashes. States in America believe that teens should practice to get ready to pass the behind the wheel test. The more people practice behind the wheel, the better they are at driving a motorized vehicle. So, it is important that teens received the best opportunity they can with the behind the wheel driving supervisor in order to potentially reduce fatal car crashes among teens in America. Individualized instruction is different for each state for behind the wheel. Some states do not have enough supervised hours which puts teens at the top of fatal crash rates. Individual states that have about 40 or more supervised hours and have lower crash rates are for example, the state of Minnesota. This state has 40 supervised hours for teens of which they have to log before they are able to take the drivers test. ( The Children s Hospital...). In Minnesota if the parents do not attend the drivers education meeting before the class starts their child would have to log 50 hours before they turn 16 to take their driver s test. This helps since Minnesota has 40 or more supervised hours to practice driving. Minnesota is in the first group for not having fatal car crashes in teens. South Dakota has one of the worst teen fatal car crash rates mostly because they have no supervised hours to meet before they take the behind the wheel test. This demonstrate an example of the conflict theory because due to lack of resources a conflict has occurred for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Essay on Media and Violence Introduction In this essay I will be analysing whether less visual violence within the media would mean less violence on the streets. Firstly, I will be questioning whether there is a connection between the viewing of media violence and actual acting upon it. To do this I will analyse the usefulness of the different methods used to approach such as complex issue. To illustrate this I will use examples of different media forms that seem to have been a catalyst for acts of violence. Postmodernist fear that the media will become so overpowering a dominant that it will create hyper reality whereby the distinctions between image and reality no longer exist (Jewkes, 2004: 26) Research Some argue that watching violence on screen may have a negative effect on the individual and may lead to that individual imitating that act. Many researchers especially psychologist have carried out studies attempting to prove that there is a correlation between the two commonly using experiments with the use of observations (Boyle, 2005). The most common way that researchers go about answering the question is by selecting a group of children, making them watch something which has a level of violence and analyses the way the children react to it after they have watched it (Bandura et al, 1963). There are many flaws when conducting such as study, one of them being that the study highly lacks in reliability. Even if there appears to be a link between media violence and street violence, the results would not be geographically consistent if the study was repeated as they fail to realise that the social situation of every individual is different, (Guanlett, 2001) therefore, generalising the study based ... I remember coming home from school in second grade and completing a thick booklet of blank, squared pages that required me to print my numbers out from 1 1000. I sat at the kitchen table to complete it, with all seven of my family members conversing around me, as I was a child that lacked an adequate place to study. Envy invaded my mind as my brothers and sisters played joyfully around me, making it difficult to remain concentrated; nevertheless, I was forced to sit at the table until the booklet was completed. Instances such as the one previously mentioned were a regular occurrence in my youth and negatively impacted my playtime, although my brothers and sisters eventually joined me at the table to complete their own homework. Completing homework was a necessity in my household, and failing to do so would result in harsh consequences. One particular instance of an incomplete homework assignment stands out prominently in my memory. As I got older, my interests grew, but the amount of homework that I was required to accomplish gradually increased as well. During my upper level elementary years, I was absolutely obsessed with the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. In the final month of sixth grade I was assigned a year end project to complete for English Language Arts.
