Evaluation The Performance of MAODV and AODV Protocols In VANETs ModelsCSCJournals
This paper to study, analyse the performance of multicast technology using the MAODV (Multicast On-demand Distance Vector Routing Protocol) in the VANETs (Vehicle Ad-Hoc Networks), this protocol using widely in MANETs (Mobile Ad-Hoc Network). The wireless nodes in the wireless vehicle networks are the same wireless devices, which are integrated with a sensor and designed specifically for the design of safety, privacy and security applications. Researchers are interested in developing and enhancing the number of service quality parameters (packets received, delay, productivity, node power consumption, etc.). The aim of this paper is to introduce and optimize VANETS multi-cast transmission technology to reduce delay, increase throughput and reduce packet loss. Although, presents an analytical study of the Enhanced Protocol (MAODV) Protocol (AODV) and compares it to AODV performance in VANETs.

Deterministic channel models have been widely used in simulation and modeling of ad hoc network for a long time. But, deterministic channel models are too simple to represent a real-world ad hoc network scenario. Recently, random channel models have drawn considerable attention of the researchers in this field. The results presented in the literature show that random channel models have a grave impact on the
performance of an ad hoc network. A comprehensive investigation on this issue is yet to be available in the
literature. In this investigation, we consider both deterministic and random channel models to investigate their effects on ad hoc networks. We consider two different types of routing protocols namely single path and multipath routing protocols. We choose Destination Sequence Distance Vector (DSDV), Dynamic Source Routing Protocol (DSR), and Ad-hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) as the single path routing protocols. On the other hand, we choose Ad-hoc On-Demand Multiple Path Distance Vector (AOMDV) as the multipath routing protocol. The results show that some single path routing protocol can outperform multipath routing protocol under both deterministic and random channel conditions. These results surprisingly contradict the popular claim that multipath routing protocol always outperforms single path routing protocol. A guideline for choosing an appropriate routing protocol for adhoc network has also been provided in this work.

Wireless operations allow services, such as long-range communications, that are impossible or
impractical to implement with the use of wires. It is supported by well-liked technique known as Adhoc Protocol
[1]. The term is commonly used in the telecommunications industry to refer to telecommunications systems e.g.
radio transmitters and receivers, remote controls etc. which use some form of energy e.g. radio waves, acoustic
energy, etc. to transfer information without the use of wires.[1] Information is transferred in this manner over
both short and long distances.In this, routes may be detached due to lively movement of nodes. So route
assortment and topology grouping is not easy and demanding issue. This type of networks is more vulnerable to
both internal and external attacks due to presence of wicked neighbour nodes[1][2s. Paper see the sights new
method using AODV protocol to find out good neighbour node and finding reliable path according to their
signal strength, flow capacity relative position of node in network.
Mobile ad hoc network is a reconfigurable network of mobile nodes connected by multi-hop wireless links and capable of operating without any fixed infrastructure support. In order to facilitate communication within such self-creating, self-organizing and self administrating network, a dynamic routing protocol is needed. The primary goal of such an ad hoc network routing protocol is to discover and establish a correct and efficient route between a pair of nodes so that messages may be delivered in a timely manner. Route construction should be done with a minimum of overhead and bandwidth consumption. This paper examines two routing protocols, both on-demand source routing, for mobile ad hoc networks– the Dynamic Source Routing (DSR), an flat architecture based and the Cluster Based Routing Protocol (CBRP), a cluster architecture based and evaluates both routing protocols in terms of packet delivery fraction, normalized routing load, average end to end delay, throughput by varying number of nodes per sq. km, traffic sources and mobility. Simulation results show that in high
mobility (pause time 0s) scenarios, CBRP outperforms DSR. CBRP scales well with increasing number of nodes.

In Wireless Adhoc Network is a group of wireless mobile nodes is an autonomous system of mobile nodes connected by wireless links. Every node operates as an end system and as a router to forward packets. In this paper mainly focused on Mac layer because this layer is most important for the data communication using control the packet loss and we worked on the comparison based performance of wimax802.16 and wireless802.11 networks using Ad hoc on- demand Distance Vector Routing Protocol and Dynamic Source Routing Protocol. In this paper we used the different maximum speed for the network. And this comparison based on unicast On-demand routing procedure and our simulation for mobile ad hoc networks discover and maintain only needed the design and follows the idea that each node by sending routing packets whenever a communication is requested and compared various parameter packet delivery ratio, normalized routing load and e-e delay. These simulations are carried out using the Network simulator version-2. The results presented in this work illustrate the importance in carefully evaluating and implementing routing protocols in an ad hoc environment.

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET) is an important and challenging research area. The routing protocol should detect and maintain a good route between source and destination nodes in these dynamic networks. Many routing protocols have been proposed for mobile ad hoc networks, and none can be considered as the best under all conditions. This thesis work consist a systematic comparative evaluation of a new multipath routing protocol for MANETS. The new protocol, called Multipath Destination Sequenced Distance Vector (MDSDV) is based on the well known single path Destination Sequenced Distance Vector (DSDV) is compared with known protocol DSDV. This work containing evaluates the protocols on a range of MANETS with between 50, 75 and 100 nodes, which are static nodes. The protocol comparison metrics are Throughput and Residual Energy.

In mobile Ad hoc network, frequent mobility during the data transmission of data
causes route failure which results in route discovery. In this we propose multipath routing protocol
for effective local route recovery in mobile Ad hoc networks. In this protocol each source and
destination pair establishes multiple paths in single route discovery and they are cached in their route
caches. The cached routes are sorted on the basis of their bandwidth availability. In case of route
failure in the primary route, a recovery node which is an over heading neighbor, detects it and
establishes a local recovery path with maximum bandwidth from its route cache. This proposed
technique improves network performance and it prevents frequent collision.

Consequently, many routing algorithms have come into existence to satisfy the needs of communications in such networks. Researchers have conducted many simulations comparing the performance of these routing protocols under various conditions and constraints. One question that arises is whether speed of nodes affects the relative performance of routing protocols being studied. This paper addresses the question by simulating two routing protocols AODV and DSDV. Protocols were simulated using the ns-2 and were compared in terms of packet delivery fraction, normalized routing load and average delay, while varying number of nodes, and speed.

A Survey of Enhanced Routing Protocols for Manetspijans
Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) form a class of dynamic multi-hop networks consisting of a set of
mobile nodes that intercommunicate on shared wireless channels. MANETs are self-organizing and selfconfiguring multi-hop wireless networks, where the network structure changes dynamically due to the node
mobility. There exists no fixed topology due to the mobility of nodes, interference, multipath propagation
and path loss. Hence efficient dynamic routing protocols are required for these networks to function
properly. Many routing protocols have been developed to accomplish this task. In this paper we survey
various new routing protocols that have been developed as extensions or advanced versions of previously
existing routing protocols for MANETs such as DSR, AODV, OLSR etc.

Routing protocols are responsible for providing reliable communication between the source and destination nodes. The performance of these protocols in the ad hoc network family is influenced by several factors such as mobility model, traffic load, transmission range, and the number of mobile nodes which represents a great issue. Several simulation studies have explored routing protocol with performance parameters, but few relate to various protocols concerning routing and quality of service (QoS) metrics. This paper presents a simulation-based comparison of proactive, reactive, and multipath routing protocols in mobile adhoc networks (MANETs). Specifically, the performance of AODV, DSDV, and AOMDV protocols are evaluated and analyzed in the presence of varying the number of mobile nodes, pause time, and traffic connection numbers. Moreover, Routing and QoS performance metrics such as normalized routing load, routing packet, packet delivery ratio, packet drop, end-to-end delay, and throughput are measured to conduct a performance comparison between three routing protocols. Simulation results indicate that AODV outperforms the DSDV and AOMDV protocols in most of the metrics. AOMDV is better than DSDV in terms of end-to-end delay. DSDV provides lower throughput performance results. Network topology parameters have a slight impact on AODV performance.

The lack of battery power in this multihop network with no infrastructure is problematic. As a result,
proper transmission power utilization must be considered. Transmission power significantly impacts the
data dissemination of different routing protocols used in this MANET environment. By taking this issue into
account, the performance of routing protocols is examined based on different transmission power settings.
The packet delivery ratio (PDR), packet loss (PL), jitter, and Dealy all play a role in determining network
service quality. This study investigates how transmission power impacts MANET routing protocols’ quality
of Service (QoS). The MANET routing protocols investigated in this study include AODV, OLSR, DSDV,
and DSR. NS3 is used to create the simulation environment. According to this analysis, AODV outperforms
other routing protocols in overall performance.

Vehicular ad -hoc network (VANET) has a problem called high mobility and uneven distribution of vehicles which affect the performance of routing. The high mobility may changes arrangements of a network, and the uneven distribution of vehicles leads to node failures due to network partition; In an urban environment the high density of vehicle cause drastic wireless contentions. In this paper, we use the Even Data Distribution (EDD) protocol to make uneven distribution of data transmission in the vehicular ad-hoc network to even distribution. In which the high mobility of vehicles in urban areas causes loss of data due to uneven distribution in order to reduce the impact of uneven distribution we transform it into even distribution using EDD protocol.
Multipath Fault Tolerant Routing Protocol in MANET pijans
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) consist of a collection of wireless mobile nodes which dynamically
exchange data among themselves without the reliance on a fixed base station or a wired backbone network
and it the makes the routing a crucial issue to the design of the MANET. Multiple path routing protocols
are shown to be performance-effective alternatives over single-path routing for ad hoc networks and it
represents a promising routing method for wireless mobile ad hoc networks. Multi-path routing achieves
load balancing and is more resilient to route failures..In this paper we propose an energy efficient
multipath fault tolerant routing protocol to improve the reliability of data routing in Mobile ad hoc
networks. The proposed RFTA is a multi objective routing protocol that meets diverse application
requirements by considering the changing conditions of the network. The efficiency of the proposed
protocol has been evaluated on different scenarios and there has been a noticeable improvement in the
packet delivery ratio and also in the reduction of end-to-end delay comparing to SMR,SMS and MDSR.
Path Duration Analysis in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networkpijans
In Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) the mobility of the nodes is the main concern. This mobility of
nodes makes the route unstable and unreliable for the information exchange and communication between
two nodes in the network. To enhance the performance and throughput of the VANETs, routes between
nodes must be reliable and stable. In this paper, we study the significance of path duration and link
duration in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs). Because of this mobility, connectivity graphs changes
very frequently and it affects the performance of VANETs. Therefore, path duration can be used to predict
the behaviour of the mobile nodes in the network. Estimation of the path duration in VANETs can be a key
factor to improve the performance of the routing protocol. Estimation of path duration is a challenging task
to perform as it depends on many parameters including node density, transmission range, numbers of hops,
and velocity of nodes. This paper will provide a comprehensive study for estimating the path duration in
VANETs.

Abstract
The Vehicular Adhoc network is the
emerging research area which makes a phrase
‘Network on the wheel”. VANET is ad hoc
network technology where cars or vehicles are
used as mobile nodes to form a communication
network. Routing protocols play a big vital role in
terms of performance. MANETs and VANETs are
infrastructure less networks, where they are
similar in characteristics. The similarity in both
cases is the nodes are in motion with their self
organizing characteristics where there is no
requirement of any fixed or existing
infrastructure. [1]. The main purpose of VANET
is to provide[2] ubiquitous connectivity while on
the road to the mobile users, those are otherwise
connected to the outside world.
Due to the distinct features of VANETS, various
problems can be tackled by the researchers.
Applications developed for VANETS have very
specific and clear goals such as providing
intelligent and safe transport system.

I. INTRODUCTION
Vehicular Adhoc Networks are special case of
Mobile Adhoc Network (MANET). Both MANET
and VANET networks are multi hop mobile networks
with dynamic topology. Due to dynamic nature of the
mobile nodes in the network, finding and maintaining
the routes is very challenging in VANETS. Routing
in the VANETS is main concern for maintaining
mobility and safety issues.
As MANET and VANET share similar
protocols and principles e.g. self organization, self
management, low bandwidth, and short radio
transmission range, most of the ad hoc routing
protocols are applicable such as AODV, DSR, and
DSDV etc. VANET differs from MANET by its
highly dynamic topology. Wireless communication is
established by nodes acting as routers and transferring
packets from one to another in ad hoc networks.
Routing in these networks is complex due to node
movements and so there is a need of effective routing
protocols. A routing protocol is needed whenever a
packet is transmitted to a destination via number of
nodes and various routing protocols are proposed for
the same. These protocols find a route for a packet
delivery and deliver the pack to correct destination.

II. CLASSIFICATION OF ROUTING
PROTOCOLS
Generally routing protocols are classified
into two categories.
1 Topology Based Routing
2 Geographic Routing
The topology based routing protocols are of two
types proactive i.e. table driven routing protocols and
reactive i.e. on demand routing protocols. The
Geographic routing protocols are further divided into
various categories as shown in above diagram (Table
1).
Here the protocols are major concern are proactive
and reactive.
Proactive (Table Driven) Protocols
In this type of routing protocol, each node in
a network maintains one or more routing tables which
are updated regularly. Each node sends a broadcast
message to the entire network if there is a change in
the network topology. However, it incurs additional
overhead cost due to maintaining up-to-date
information and as a result; throughput of the network
may be affected but it provides the actual information
to the availability of the network. Distance vector
(DV) protocol, Destination Sequenced Distance
Vector (DSDV) protocol, Wireless Routing protocol
Fisheye State Routing (FSR) protocol are the
examples of Proactive protocols.
The proactive protocols are not suitable for
larger networks as more node entries are to be
maintained for each and every node. The resultant is
cost of overheads increases with more bandwidth
consumption. Examples of proactive protocols are
destination Sequence Distance Vector (DSDV),
Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR). Proactive
routing protocols are mostly based on shortest path
algorithms. They trace information of all connected
nodes in form of tables because these are table based
protocols.
Reactive Protocols
In this type of routing protocol, each node in
a network discovers or maintains a route based on-
demand. It floods a control message by global
broadcast during discovering a route and when route
is discovered then bandwidth is used for data
transmission. The main advantage is that this protocol
needs less touting information but the disadvantages
are that it produces huge control packets due to route
discovery during topology changes which occurs
frequently in MANETs and it incurs higher latency.
The examples of this type of protocol are Dynamic
Source Routing (DSR), Ad-hoc On Demand Routing
(AODV) and Associatively Based Routing (ABR)
protocols. Reactive routing is also known as on –
demand routing protocol as they do not maintain
routing information at the network nodes when there

is no communication. If the node wants to send a
packet to another node then only this protocol
searches for the route on demand and thus establishes
the communication to transmit and receive the
packet. Normally the route discovery happens with
the help of flooding the route request packets
throughout the network. Example is AODV.
Ad hoc On Demand Distance Vector Routing
(AODV)
The AODV Routing protocol uses an on-
demand approach for finding routes, that is, a route is
established only when it is required by a source node
for transmitting data packets. At that point the
network node that needs a connection broadcasts a
request for connection [4]. Other AODV nodes
forward this message, creating an explosion of
temporary routes back to the needy node. When a
node receives such a message and already has a route
to the desired node, it sends a message backwards
through a temporary route to the requesting node. The
needy node then begins using the route that has the
least number of hops through other nodes. Unused
entries in the routing tables are recycled after a time.
The advantage of AODV is that no extra traffic is
created for communication along existing links. Also,
distance vector routing is simple, and doesn't require
much memory or calculation. However AODV
requires more time to establish a connection, and the
initial communication to establish a route is heavier
than some other approaches.
Destination Sequenced Distance – Vectors
Routing (DSDV)
DSDV is proactive i.e. table driven routing
protocol scheme. The contribution of this is to solve
routing loop problem as per author [4]. DSDV
solves major problems associated with Distance
Vector routing of wired networks as per author [8].
Each entry in the routing table contains sequence
numbers. Initially routing tables are broadcasted by
every vehicle to its adjacent vehicles. The neighbor
vehicles update the routing table with the help of two
types of packets namely Full Dump packets and
Incremental Normally Full Dump packets which
contain information about every participating vehicle
in the VANET [10]. The major advantage of DSDV
is that it guarantees loop free paths. It also reduces
infinity problem counts. Further it maintains best path
not multiple paths to every destination so that routing
table space is saved. The drawbacks of DSDV are
that it does not support multipath routing and
sometimes wastage of bandwidth happens due to
unnecessary advertisement of routing information.
III.Broadcasting in VANET
Broadcasting in VANET is very critical
issue area of research. The difference in broadcasting
in VANET is different from broadcasting Manet due
to several reasons such as network topology, mobility
patterns, demographics, traffic patterns at different
times. Sharing emergency traffic, weather, road data
among vehicles and delivering advertisement and
announcements may be the applications relying on
broadcast include [3]. Because of the vehicles moving
at high speeds in VANET, dynamic changes in
topology happens frequently, which results in changes
in routing information. Broadcasting in VANETs can
disseminate assistant traffic condition messages to all
vehicles within a certain geographical area[4]. The
simplest way to implement a broadcast service is
flooding, in which each vehicle rebroadcast messages
to all its neighbors except the one it received from.
Flooding guarantees that the message will eventually
reach all the nodes i.e. vehicles in the network.
IV. Standards Used : IEEE802.11p And
WAVE
IEEE 802.11p is an approved amendment to
the IEEE 802.11 to add wireless access in vehicular
environments (WAVE). It defines enhancements to
802.11 required to support Intelligent Transportation
Systems (ITS) applications. This includes data
exchange between high-speed vehicles and between
the vehicles and the roadside infrastructure in the
licensed ITS band of 5.9 GHz (5.85-5.925 GHz).
IEEE 1609 is a higher layer standard on which IEEE
802.11p is based. IEEE 802.11p is more suitable for
high speed vehicle data communication as per author
[6]. Wireless Access in a Vehicular Environment
(WAVE) refers to a set of emerging standards for
mobile wireless radio communications. WAVE is
highlighted in IEEE 1609.1/.2/.3/.4. IEEE 802.11p
protocol contains approved modifications to the IEEE
802.11 standard which enhances wireless access
functionality that will permit applications for rapidly
changing vehicular environments. The enhancements
allow the exchange of data in both V2V and V21
scenarios involving high speed vehicles. In IEEE
802.11p both MAC and PHY layers belonging to
DSRC/WAVE protocols are enhanced.

V. CONCLUSION
After simulation following points are
observed.
1. AODV can perform better for IEEE 802.11 P
than WAVE under high mobility conditions
2. If number of nodes is increased AODV can
perform well.
3. AODV has better Throughput and packet
delivery ratio for IEEE 802.11p than WAVE
4. Link failure requires new route discoveries in
AODV as it has almost one route per
destination vehicle in its routing table.
5. DSDV is better choice if delay is main
concern.
6. DSDV is worst for dropped packets. The
performance degrades with increase in
number of nodes.
It is concluded that overall performance of AODV
with EEE 802.11p is superior than DSDV .
