Outside The Realm Of Philosophical, And Religious, Study
Outside the realm of philosophical, and religious, study the words substance, and matter, are
commonplace definer of a physical material out of which an object of permanence is made of. To the
philosophers of the early modern period not only are these terms dissimilar, but also represented
radically different ontological theories. The topic of substance is a pillar of philosophy an ontological
analysis. The term substance corresponds to the Greek ousia, which means being (Howard, 2013).
Substance, in the philosophical sense, became a generic term for anything thought to be the simplest
component that constructed reality. Alterations in how philosophers defined substance changed as
advancements in science and philosophy forced the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example would be someone s name. The name Gabe is capable of existing on its own, and while it
is likely this name is associated with another human it cannot be proven to be associated to any form
or object. Secondary substance would be predictive of form and function; so human would be a
secondary substance as a human has a definitive form (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy). This
dualist presentation of substance allows for a deductive ontological proof capable of predicting
primary substance. Aristotle believes, Whenever one thing is predicated of another as of a subject, all
things said of what is predicated will be said of the subject also. He continues by presented the
example that, man is predicated of the individual man, and animal of man; so animal will be
predicated of the individual man also for the individual man is both a man and an animal. (1b10,
Categories). This chain of predictability allowed Aristotle to prove whether something has being or
not. Interestingly, Aristotle leaves the binary substance classification for a more specific criterion to
understand what substance is.
Book Z of Metaphysics, addresses, The question which was raised long ago, [and] is still and always
will be, which always baffles us What is Being? is in other words What is Substance? (1028b3
Metaphysics Book Z). In order to answer this question Aristotle constructs 4 criterions, which must be

Conflict is normal...Resolution is not suppression or elimination, it is a process that can channel
energy constructively, may define the future, can be negotiated jointly, build better
relations/strengthen teams, expand opportunities where there is benefit to all involved.
CONFLICT SETTLEMENT is the solution or compromise imposed by mediation or arbitration.
The job of the president or team leader is to manage, resolve and settle conflicts so that they don t
interfere with the work of the board and undermine the ability of the organization to fulfill its mission
and strategic goals.
Who can tell us what kinds of things produce friction, conflicts or controversy in a volunteer
organization?
Conflict/controversy occurs when...
Unhelpful behavior in terms of interpersonal communication eg that is the way we ve always done
things , eg biased, unclear or limited communication;
Lack of information or transparency, rumor vs facts;
Different views of what information is important;
Varying interpretations of available information;
Different needs or interests and the perception that all the choices facing the organization are in
competition with one another;
Struggle over power or authority;
Differences in values eg different ways of understanding the world or different ideals in the broadest
sense (this is one of the most difficult types of conflict to resolve);

Becoming A Game Warden
Game Wardens are law enforcement officers, but instead of patrolling the urban streets, they are out in
the wild. Game wardens spend a large majority of their time in the field, enforcing laws related to
wildlife. They patrol specific areas, investigate complaints and prosecute those who violate local, state
and federal regulations related to hunting, fishing and environmental protection. They re often
involved with search and rescue missions and respond to automobile collisions with wildlife. Game
wardens also investigate suspicious activity, collect specimens and evidence, and may work with other
professionals such as wildlife scientists to help protect the environments they re assigned to.

What Is The Reading Response To Towards An Aesthetic Of...
Reading Response to Towards an Aesthetic of Popular Music.
In the Article, Towards an Aesthetic of Popular Music, Simon Frith proposes a new way to look at the
value of popular music. He argues that people listen to music to create a sense of identity, express
feelings, and have a sense of time. Therefore the aesthetic of popular music is how well the music
performs those specific tasks. He then went on to break down how the proposed aethstetic could be
measured using the music itself, voice, and the sense of truth.
To support his argument of identity, feelings, and time he brought in specific facts to illustrate each
point. For the creation of an identity he explained that Irish music is played in Irish pups because it
makes the patrons

Why Does Priestley Use The Inspector To Convey His Own...
An Inspector Calls
How does Priestley use the character of the Inspector to convey his own opinions and attitudes?
An Inspector Calls, set in 1912, is a play with many social and political messages. J. B. Priestley
believed a great deal in socialism and believed that many other people needed to be more caring about
their community and the people in it. Priestley uses the character of the Inspector to convey his own
thoughts, feelings and opinions about social issues. However, he also uses other characters,
particularly Mr.Birling, to show the audience how cynical some people can be.
It is possible that J.B.Priestley set this play in 1912 for a reason. Arthur Birling is a rich businessman
who thinks very highly of himself, even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This tactic could have been to ensure that his viewers continued to think about the story and hence
would also have to think about the issues of Socialism and this is something which he was desperate
to do.
The Inspector s aim in the play is to change thoughts and opinions of the Birling family and the
audience viewing. One of the ways he attempts to do this is by questioning each one of the Birling s in
turn. The Inspector firsts interrogates Mr.Birling, asking him why he dismissed Eva Smith from her
job at his factory, just for asking for more money.
Birling was surprised at being questioned, so it seems that what he says is usually accepted as correct.
His surprise could also be because of exactly what the Inspector was questioning. Birling says that it is
his duty to keep labour costs down which indicates that he does not think of each worker as a person
and cares a great deal about money. The fact that he did not recognise the name Eva Smith even
though she was someone he dealt with directly and a worker who stood out, further shows that he does
not think of his employees as people. To him they are nameless and have no individuality.
Priestley has done this to make audience members realize that even if a person has a very minor job,
or is poorer than most, they still deserve to be treated with respect.
The Inspector recognises early on that Sheila

Loyalists During The American Revolutionary War
As new people of this nation, some of us these days may not have much information on how early,
people came to have their own independence in this country of America. All we know was that
because of the war and all those waring to another nation. We do not understand how things gotten
into a war though and how much we literally understand how our ancestors got their own land dispute
with all those historic wars. I believe that loyalists in the American revolutionary war have so many
things to explain regarding the success of the lives of the Loyalists.
Most Americans that lives in the United States of America are not all origins or born in this country.
Most of them are came from different countries of the world including the France, Spain, Portugal,
and England. England is where the king of Britain lives. This is one of the country were most of the
Americans came to emigrate and live in the land of New World. These people were dislike by the
Americans because they criticized the actions that they support like the Stamp Act and the Coercive
Acts. This is why these people formed themselves and start to call themselves as Loyalists or Tories.
They do not like to hurt the King s feelings because they believe that the territory that they are
stepping onto are part of the king s property and should not be withhold of what the decision of the
king. In that case, they were eager to get out in this nation by settling in Canada. As what I heard, my

7 Exoplanet Research Paper
Ever since I was a young child I was always intrigued by space. Just like many children I wanted to be
an astronaut when I grew up. It was just fascinating to me to go off and explore. From a young age, I
knew the Universe was infinite but tapped into the basic human instinct to explore. I would play with
models, and use computer programs to look at planets and stars. I was given a telescope when I was
ten or eleven for Christmas and became even more entrenched with space. It was just always
fascinating to me and to this day it still is. That s why when NASA announced that they had found
seven exoplanets orbiting a star not too far away, called Trappist. When I say not too far away it is still
not reachable for humans at this point. Trappist is two hundred thirty five trillion miles away, or forty
light years. It takes the light from Trappist forty years to reach us. If we could travel the speed of light,
which is nowhere near possible, it would take forty years to get there. Trappist is a very cool red dwarf
star, the most common in the universe. Of the seven planets three of them orbit within the habitable
zone. The habitable zone is the zone in which liquid water can be present on the surface thus meaning
life. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

At that point I believe that aliens would want it to be known that the exist if they see how far behind

Vasco Da Gama Summary
The author of this traveler account is Vasco da Gama himself. He was born about 1460 in Portugal and
was a famous navigator for the King of Portugal. Da Gama starts off his journal by describing his
voyage to the Bay of St. Helena in 1497, also describing himself as the Captain Major in third person.
Da Gama had anchored in the bay for eight days to clean their ships and took captive on of the natives,
feeding him and dressing him well, he was returned to land and that helped da Gama gain entry with
the other natives to their land. He describes the inhabitants as ...tawny colored. Their food is confined
to the flesh of seals, whales and gazelles, and the roots of herbs. They are dressed in skins, and wear
sheaths over their virile members. They are armed with poles of olive wood to which a horn, browned
in the fire, is attached. Their numerous dogs resemble those of Portugal, and bark like them. Da Gama
notices the similarity of dogs in St. Helena to those of his home country of Portugal, which I don t
think he expected to see. Vasco goes on to explain how he showed them merchandise that he brought
from Portugal and all the natives were amazed by it. The following night, da Gama is at supper and
then says that he hears shouting and sees one of his crew being chased by the natives across the beach
and quickly they depart from this bay, due to some miscommunication where the natives started to
attack them.
Many things interested da Gama and had led him to navigate all the

Relationship Between Leaf Size And Annual Sex Expression
Relationship between leaf size and annual sex expression in Arisaema triphyllum
VICKY NGUYEN
University of Toronto, Scarborough
Summary
Disparity in cost of reproduction has lead sexually reproducing plants to develop different methods of
dealing with the cost of reproduction, an example of this is sequential hermaphroditism, where an
individual can change sex at one point in their life. Jack in the pulpit, Arisaema triphyllum, is a
sexually dimorphic plant that exhibits sequential hermaphroditism, this study looks to see if female A.
triphyllum will exhibit the largest leaf sizes due to their need to meet higher costs of reproduction.
Forty individuals were surveyed for sex and largest leaf length per area for 7 different locations within
Morningside ravine. Individuals were analyzed for mean leaf length per sex, and means were analyzed
for significance with a 1 way ANOVA followed by a tukey test. All means were found to be
significantly different from each other with the mean of females leaves the largest, followed by males,
and asexual individuals were the smallest. Female individuals of A. triphyllum had the largest leaf
sizes to compensate for their elevated costs of reproduction. The size advantage model explains that
that female A. triphyllum will have the largest leaves because female individuals are able to best meet
the costs of reproduction at larger sizes.

Fears And Application Of Skepticism Towards Witchcraft Essay
The Heightening and Application of Skepticism towards Witchcraft
Throughout the period ranging from the late 16th to early 18th century, the witchcraft mania and trials
dominated the religious, secular, and popular spheres of life. Within the mainstream popular beliefs in
magic and the prosecution of such acts, there existed the few, but strong voices of skepticism. These
skeptical works did stir up these popular beliefs; however, these opposing views did not generate
much change. Where these views are able to clear a path towards to the decline and eradication of
witchcraft trials is ultimately within the application of these views. While the authors and speakers
from the skeptical texts written in the late 16th to early 18th century were interested in combating and
reformulating the popular beliefs in witchcraft and its many faces, the major manifestation of their
skepticism results in a critique of the process of witchcraft trials, their legal methodology, and their
validity in a moral and reasonable society.
Many of the skeptics within the time in and surrounding the 17th century were concerned, as many
early writers had been, with the reality of magic as a whole. Living within the uprising of witchcraft
trials and beliefs in 1584, Reginald Scot appeared as an unaided voice of skepticism against a sea of
passionate belief. In his text, Discoverie of Witchcraft, Scot outlines the crimes witches are often
committed for, but omits the crimes of magical sorts. He sites

The Effects Of Extracurricular Activities On Sports...
Although many theorists criticize that the extracurricular activities takes valuable time from the
family, relaxation and leisure time, especially sport participation requires more and more time due to
its increase in competiveness and amount of practice (Melman et al., 2008; Shaw et al., 1996 in
Fredericks, 2012). In Fredericks study (2012), the unique time requirement in sports participation is
explained as an enforcer to develop even stronger relationships, better refinement of the skills and
most importantly more conscientiousness. The media concentrates on the highly involved students,
which make approximately 3 6% of the entire high school student body, that clock in over 20 h per
week, whereas the average of students participates 7 8 h per week in afterschool program, which
means they stay for less then 1.5 h more after school (Fredericks, 2012). Paradoxically, according to
Mahoney et al. (2006 in Fredericks, 2012) actually the most involved students, at least 20 h/per week,
showed better capability in adjusting to the academically and psychological demands. These results
are only applicable to a very few amount of students and not to the majority of the American
population.
In research, a small correlation between intensity of the extracurricular activity and negative
adjustment has been proven in boys, but overall the achievement pressure made by parents, the
athletes themselves, the society, the century we live in and their surroundings has shown to be much

To further accentuate Alice s cognitive degeneration, a scene could be added involving her new
grandchildren. In the movie, Alice meets Anna and Charlie s twin babies for the first time, just after
they were delivered in the hospital. Upon their birth, Charlie was hesitant to let Alice hold them due to
her mental state, so this scene will further that specific plot line. The scene would take place at their
house in New York, after they have returned from an extended stay at their beach house. John has just
received his offer from the Mayo Clinic, and Lydia is planning to fly in from Los Angeles to stay with
her mother. Alice is still trying to comprehend the idea of John taking a new job in a new state, as she

Jay Gatz Vs The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby is known to have religious symbolism embedded in the text, from God figures to
Deism and Christianity. Fitzgerald brings light to Gatsby s humanity and God figure by creating two
versions of him in the text: Gatz and Gatsby. However, which version is real, and which is a failed
manifestation of the other? It is evident in the text that the real version, or person, is in fact James
Gatz. Jay Gatsby is only a gilded version of James Gatz, created by the mind of a seventeen year old.
Through his gildedness, he has managed to destroy his life and build his riches from unsavory people
in the hopes of obtaining the magic of his past life. James Gatz was simply trying to be someone who

Fitzgerald relates Gatsby to a son of a God doing His Father s business, or the son of his past self
doing his business. New money is the best description for Jay Gatsby, being rash, ostentatious, and
flamboyant with his riches and power. His house, Rolls Royce, and extreme parties all reflect his
character and his motives to gain the love of Daisy once again. It is ironic that Gatsby changed his
entire life, however he thinks that everything can return to the way it was in the past, more specifically
the relationship between Daisy and Gatsby. Their love for each other is now tainted on both sides, one
because Daisy also loves Tom, and that Gatsby does not truly love Daisy anymore. He loves the idea
of Daisy and the memories they have had together, almost envisioning her as a perfect being. This
translates to an unhealthy lust for Daisy from Gatsby, which changes, and eventually ends, their
relationship. One can also point observe that Jay Gatsby, as a public figure, is gilded. The mask that
Gatsby puts on in public hides the source of his riches, which are of dishonorable and corrupt

been to the Buffalo State college or even orientation I expected the best. I figured the campus be
beautiful and very spacy. I researched facts about Buffalo State and I was very surprised to see how
many students attended. I love the fact that the college presented a lot of diversity. I also expected that
the college life would be very social since I asked the former students of Buffalo State about it. Of
course I was a little nervous that there was a little chance that it May not be anything close to what I
expected. The helping hands on the college life I expected would be top notch since there were so
many students living on campus. When I received the letter that I would be attending the EOP

The Lack Of Psychical Activity
The lack of psychical activity is another growing issue. Some people are quick to blame computers,
television, and other sources as the driving forces behind childhood obesity. Food for thought: Who
allows the child to sit in front of the computer or television for hours? Computers and televisions have
become built in babysitters for some parents Television and the Internet may contribute to obesity
rates a little; however, these are not the only factors that decide whether a child becomes obese. In
fact, according to the WHO survey, parents are just as much at fault for making their children obese as
outside influences are. Mothers tipped the scale with 91 percent of them being primary caregivers in
the telephone survey, and were the ones responsible for the foods offered to, cooked for (and chosen
by) the children. A parent allowing access to so many choices of unhealthy snacks convenient foods,
and sitting in front of the television or Internet is only part of the problem. Medical care and
nutritional education of the children is obviously the parents responsibility, but so many parents are
careless about basic nutrition and the need for exercise. In addition, how many parents just don t have
the gumption to battle with their preschoolers regarding what they eat? Some parents have the attitude

consequences than in its intentions. In this statement, Niebuhr exclaims that the consequences of a
situation are undeniably much worse than the motivation of one s instigation of their actions. This
applies to the intentions and, more importantly, the consequences of the characters in both the play
Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare and film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps directed by Oliver
Stone. Even though some people have honorable intentions and mean no harm, the consequences can
still be disastrous. In much the same way, those with fraudulent intentions also suffer in the end.
Situations like these can be accurately viewed through both the play and the film. The characters
Brutus and Jacob Moore have no other reason but to act in a worthy way. While Cassius and Gordon
Gekko have deceptive intentions, consequences incur similar to Brutus and Jacob Moore. The
intentions may seem like the most important consideration in a decision, but, in reality, the penalties
can be the same no matter what the motives are.
A motive to kill one s best friend requires deep thinking and a reasonable intention. Brutus, Caesar s
best friend, has taken into consideration why he thinks killing Caesar is necessary. Although Brutus is
Caesar s best friend, he has to come to conclusion that murdering him is his final decision when he
asserts, Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome

Causes Of Gun Violence In America
What is the problem? Throughout the years, the United States has experienced many different societal
problems. All of the problems have the same dilemma being no one can agree on what the actual cause
of these problems are so they don t know where to begin on fixing them. Some of these problems
include equality between men and women, environmental protection, political freedoms and so many
more things. A very big issue right now is the amount of gun violence that takes place in our Country
every day. It may sound too obvious that the cause of violence is the lack of control on guns, but it is
actually much more extensive and the cause has many parts to it.
Gun violence has always been an issue in the United States. The public started to notice the problem
in 2007 when there was one of the most known school shootings at Virginia Tech. Caitlin Hammaren
was just a normal sophomore at Virginia Tech and on April 16, 2007 what seemed as just a normal day
of class her life had been taken away from her (Why gun control is important) After that, it again
became a hot topic in 2012, when there was another school shooting at Sandy Hook elementary
school. This shooting seemed to really hit a lot of people because many young children had been
killed and injured. These were just two of the most known school shootings. There were 64 school
shootings in 2015, according to a dedicated campaign group set up in the wake of the Sandy Hook
elementary school massacre in

Cyber Crimes And The Crime
Abstract Law Enforcement have always been tasked with having to evolve with the trends in crime
throughout history. Unfortunately for Law Enforcement, they are always on the back end of that and
are often behind for months before being able to counteract. Cyber crimes are no different. Cyber
Crimes are a new and always developing form of crime that bases its entire agenda from taking
advantage of its victims over the internet. Law Enforcement s job is to assess and work to stop these
crimes but it s not that easy. These cyber crimes are heavily in the favor of the criminals and the lack
of assistance to Law Enforcement makes it harder for them. The scams are always changing and the
costs are adding up as Law Enforcement takes on Cyber crimes.
Introduction Cyber crimes, as defined by dictionary.com, are criminal activity or a crime that involves
the internet, a computer system, or computer technology. Cyber Crimes may occur all over the globe,
but the scene of the crime shares one common location, the internet. Law Enforcement has been
tasked with bringing an end to this digital dilemma and they have started by going to war. The war on
Cyber crimes is a term used to designate the efforts of Law Enforcement to go against these sly
criminals. There are many different forms of these crimes, such as some come in forms of scams and
others are ushered in by hackers. The shocking part is the statistics that come along with these crimes
and the amount of money that

War Horse Evaluation Essay
War Horse Evaluation
On the 11th of March 2013 I went to see War Horse at the New London Theatre. War Horse is a novel
adapted by Nick Stafford and written by Michael Morpurgo. The performance I saw was directed by
Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, it also involved the incredible Handspring Puppet Company who
created all the animals. War Horse is set in Devon in 1914 and is about how a farmer, Ted Narracott
who is played by Jamie Kenna buys a thoroughbred horse rather than a plough animal, but when his
teenage son Albert played by Siôn Daniel Young trains the horse and calls him Joey, the two becoming
inseparable. When his harvest fails, Ted has to sell Joey to the British cavalry and he is shipped to
France where, after a disastrous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example when the actors were fence posts they held long canes to represent a fence. The horses
responded to being penned in by backing away from the fences, again effectively allowing smooth
transitions.
Another important aspect of the performance was the use of costumes. The costumes were authentic of
the early twentieth century and they were effective as they helped set the scene. In Devon people
mostly wore farming clothes and the soldiers in the war wore army uniforms. An interesting contrast
that I saw was that The Handspring Puppet actors for Joey always wore the farmer s clothes even
when he was serving in the army. Whereas the army horse, Topthorn operated by Richard Booth,
Sergio Priftis and Antony Antunes always wore army clothes. This suggested to me that despite Joey
being forced to be a War Horse he belonged in Devon.
There were many moments in the play that effectively conveyed the themes. One particular scene in
Act Two stood out for me, this when Albert and one of his fellow soldiers, David were hiding in the
trench. The themes that were conveyed here were loyalty and love. They were both talking about their
loved ones which for Albert was Joey and the other soldier, David talked about his girlfriend, Floss.
That scene was interesting as it used comedy in contrast to the horror of the war. It started with a joke
of how Floss looked like a horse but then the tension increased again when suddenly David soldier

Sensory Perception

The sensory system is a part of the nervous system. It is responsible for processing our sensory
information, and it is the way in which we make contact in our everyday lives through our five senses
sight, touch, hearing, smell and taste. (IML Training, 2012) Our sensory receptors allow us to pick up
information ears, eyes, nostrils, tongue and skin. All senses evolve to collect their distinct type of
information about our environment and to inform us of our status within it. (Goldstein, 2009)
The brain is deeply connected to sensory data creating memories. Thinking and memory go hand in
hand. When life senses filter our brain, our senses link to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The early wiring of the brain and sensory helps explains why some people are born without a sense
and can later regain it. An example would be deaf people receiving cochlear implants later in their
lives, causing difficulty integrating the new sensory information. (Humphries, 2011)
There are reasons to trust the accuracy or inaccuracy of sensory data. When considering that a person
touches a hot stove or iron, our sensory information of feeling immediately messages our brain to
remove our hand. There will be other incidents where our sensory appears to be working well;
environmental influences can distort interpretation of data that are being sent to us. (Goodpaster,
2007)

Alise Clark Promoting Equality and Diversity of Service Users in a Care Setting. The society that we

communities now are is in our care settings, carers now have to be proactive in equally and fairly
treating everybody in their care, despite having such varied people in their care environment. People

Promoting Equality. Equality is about making our society somewhere that everyone has the
opportunity and the chance to reach their maximum potential throughout their life. Part of equality is
knowing everyone has a different level of ability and understanding, for example for one person in
society being able to walk to a supermarket independently and buy themselves a packet of crisps then
walk home again could be a huge achievement for them, giving them a strong sense of self believe as
well as a boost in their self
concept. To other people this is part of daily life and they wouldn t see it as
an achievement. Giving people the opportunity to do things that are possible for them to do with their
level of ability and making them feel empowered by it is equality amongst our society. Another
example could be in a care home for the elderly, for one service user walking to the toilet and back
could a real achievement for the, making them feel independent and self
sufficient whereas a different
service user could have a real sense of achievement by simply standing up unaided for 10 seconds.
Recognising peoples different potentially is a key part in creating equality amongst service users.
People can be led to believe that equality is treating people in the exact same way but approaching one
person in a specific way could be really positive for that person but to someone else could have a very

How Is Celie Presented In The Color Purple
In the novel, The Color Purple, a character by the name of Celie is described as being oppressed. She
is oppressed throughout most of her life, especially as a child. She is constantly being put down by
men that see or talk to her. However, Celie is strong willed and that strength is channeled through how
she deals with how she was treated while being backed by the people who respect her and unified
through the love her and her sister share. Celie s strength is signified from how the men treated her
because every time they attacked her, verbally or physically, she took it and never gave it back. The
first example you see is in the very beginning as it shows her father taking her baby and finding out
that he took another before and they were both sired by him. Another example is when a character by
the name Mister wanted to marry Celie s sister Nettie but ended up with getting Celie because her
father would not allow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the characters that respects Celie is Shug. Shug s respect adds to Celie s strength because Shug
is Mister s girlfriend even though he and Celie are married. Celie s strength is the fact that she does
not care that they are together and still makes friends with Shug and to still have the ability to have
Shug respect her. The other character that respected Celie is Sofia as Celie helped her when she
needed it most. This shows Celie s strength because Sofia was once mad at Celie for telling her
husband to beat her and for Celie to be able to make up for it and get respect from Sofia shows that
Celie is a trapped individual with spurts of life and getting out of her confinement. To have people
respect her giving the circumstances she is in shows that she is stronger than people think and tells the
reader that being oppressed does not mean you will not obtain a voice one

Dulce et Decorum Est, by Wilfred Owen and the poem To...
The two poems, To Lucasta, going to the Wars by Richard Lovelace and Dulce et Decorum Est by
Wilfred Owen are both devoted to the subject of war. Lovelace s poem was written in the 17th century
and as well as almost all the poetry of the period has romantic diction. The war is shown as something
truly worthwhile, glossed and honorable for a man. The protagonist is leaving his beloved for the
battlefield and his tone is pathetic and solemn. He calls the war his new mistress and asks his beloved
woman not to be jealous as love to her is impossible for him without honor. In this way the overall
mood of the poem is idealistic and heroic. The protagonist refers to war as a thrilling adventure and
even affection. The tone of the Owen s poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As for the meter, it reminds Iambic Pentameter. Though, the conventional rhythm is broken by the
author s punctuation (exclamation points and commas as well as periods and dashes). Due to this
device the poem comes closer to prose and sounds conversational. It was probably used to avoid song
music mood and to give as much contrast as possible to the heroic poems of other authors like Richard
Lovelace. If in Lovelace s case the poem is to inspire the reader, in Owen s work the rhythm is like a
war, like death itself hard, stumbling, hopeless, fumbling, and full of suffer. The reader suffers while
overcoming all those hyphens and points inside lines. In this way, the two poems are on the opposite
sides by their inner and outer sense. As for the form, there are a number of poetic devices which serve
to fill the poems with the necessary diction. As Lovelace s poem is easier and lighter by tone, there are
not so many devices, but still the figurative language is romantic and eloquent. The imagery is delicate
and beautiful. The innocence and pureness of the protagonist s beloved woman is described by the
words the nunnery of thy chaste breast and quiet mind ; the lover s attitude is shown by the words
Sweet and Dear ; the rush and aspiration of the hero is underlined by the metaphors of flying and
chasing . There is no place for regret or fear; on the contrary, it seems that the hero relishes his
fortune, his obligation and the

Descriptive Essay About Window Shopping
On the first day we arrived in Monterey we had lunch at a family dinners we found before exploring
the area. Since we had arrived late and couldn t go to the aquarium that day like we had originally
planned. So for the rest of the day we went window shopping because there were several small shops
in the area near the aquarium. There was one store in particular that we all had found interesting it was
a glass makers shop. Inside the shop there were different glass plates, bowls, and vases in varying
colors as well as crystal necklaces and rings. My cousin Aneia and I went to the back of the shop to
look at the jewelry in the glass case.
The necklaces are so pretty I said I especially like the pink ones
They are nice Aneia said But I think I like the blue ones better
Aniea, Rachael come on were about to leave said my mom
My mom was in the front of the store near the door with my Aunt Angrett, Aunt Tebena, Aunt Deshina
and my other younger cousin Ishael. As we left the shop we walked until we got to one of the bus
stops to take a trolley to the parking garage where Aunt Angrett s car was parked. The rest of us
wanted a ride back to Aunt Tebena s car because we were all tired of walking. When we came to our
stop my mom, Aunt Deshina and I decided we could just walk and wait for the rest of them to pick us
up along the way. We got to the car first and so we just waited for them to get there because Aunt
Tebena had the keys. When they finally came we drove to the hotel

The Effects Of Radiation On Tissue And Its Effects On The...
Since x rays were discovered in 1895, there have been several improvements made to diagnostic x ray
to make it safer for both the patient and the radiographer. Some of these improvements include,
aluminum filters, protective housing, lead shields/ aprons, and quicker exposure film. These changes
have undoubtedly improved the diagnostic radiation process, however both patient and radiographer
will still receive some dose of radiation. The effects of radiation on tissue are divided into two types:
deterministic and stochastic. A deterministic effect describes ionizing radiation induced damage that
occurs once a certain threshold is exceeded and increases in severity the greater the dose.1. (pg2 3)
Some of the more extreme deterministic effects that occur with exposure to high amounts of radiation
in a short period of time are: Skin Erythema/Necrosis, cataracts, sterility, radiation sickness, and death.
Stochastic effects are probabilistic and there is no threshold amount that must be reached. As the
amount of exposure increases so does probability of effects. However the amount of exposure does
not correspond to the severity of the effects. Some of the stochastic risk can include development of
various types of cancer and hereditary defects. It is more difficult to track the long term stochastic
effects that occur during chronic low doses exposure because there are other additional factors that
must be taken into account. We are all exposed to background radiation. The

Nation-State In Medieval Europe
What is a nation state? A nation state is defined as a type of political organization in which a group of
relatively homogenous people live in one area under one government, and its development actually
traces back to the Middle Ages. Medieval Europe was unified by the Roman Catholic Church, a
powerful, but corrupt, institution. This corruption, coupled with the Renaissance spirit, led to
increasing dissatisfaction with the Church and sparked the beginnings of the Protestant Reformation.
These revolutionary ideas created conflicts between rulers, especially the triumph of the Protestant
German princes over Charles V in 1555, which laid the foundations for the first true nation states,
France, Germany, and Italy, centuries later.

Life On Earth Is Dependent On The Functions Of Light As A...
Life on earth is dependent on the functions of light as a source of energy that has a direct or indirect
effect on the sustainability of all organisms. Light is defined as a portion of the electromagnetic
spectrum detected by human eyes (Wilson, Nivillac, Sheng, 2016, p.4); light as it passes through a
space, acts like waves and is composed of photon, containing a stream of energy particles. Light must
be absorbed by an organism to utilize it as a source of energy, however; absorption occurs when
photon s energy is transmitted to an electron, matches with the energy needed to elevate the electron
from a ground state to an explicit excited state within a molecule. Energy from the sun as a light
source enters the biosphere by the process of photosynthesis, through which the energy of light is used
to convert carbon dioxide into organic compounds. The balanced chemical equation for the overall
process of photosynthesis is: 6CO₂ + 12H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂+ 6H₂O (Wilson, Nivillac, Sheng, 2016,
p.145)
Photosynthesis occurs in two different processes: the light reaction and the Calvin cycle. This lab
focuses on the light reaction stage of photosynthesis in which the light energy is captured by pigment
molecules and utilize energy to synthesize NADPH and ATP, resulting in the production of oxygen
(O₂) (Wilson, Nivillac, Sheng, 2016, p.146). There are many factors that affect the rate of
photosynthesis for accumulated O₂; however, in this laboratory experiment the

  • 2. Outside The Realm Of Philosophical, And Religious, Study Outside the realm of philosophical, and religious, study the words substance, and matter, are commonplace definer of a physical material out of which an object of permanence is made of. To the philosophers of the early modern period not only are these terms dissimilar, but also represented radically different ontological theories. The topic of substance is a pillar of philosophy an ontological analysis. The term substance corresponds to the Greek ousia, which means being (Howard, 2013). Substance, in the philosophical sense, became a generic term for anything thought to be the simplest component that constructed reality. Alterations in how philosophers defined substance changed as advancements in science and philosophy forced the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example would be someone s name. The name Gabe is capable of existing on its own, and while it is likely this name is associated with another human it cannot be proven to be associated to any form or object. Secondary substance would be predictive of form and function; so human would be a secondary substance as a human has a definitive form (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy). This dualist presentation of substance allows for a deductive ontological proof capable of predicting primary substance. Aristotle believes, Whenever one thing is predicated of another as of a subject, all things said of what is predicated will be said of the subject also. He continues by presented the example that, man is predicated of the individual man, and animal of man; so animal will be predicated of the individual man also for the individual man is both a man and an animal. (1b10, Categories). This chain of predictability allowed Aristotle to prove whether something has being or not. Interestingly, Aristotle leaves the binary substance classification for a more specific criterion to understand what substance is. Book Z of Metaphysics, addresses, The question which was raised long ago, [and] is still and always will be, which always baffles us What is Being? is in other words What is Substance? (1028b3 Metaphysics Book Z). In order to answer this question Aristotle constructs 4 criterions, which must be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. What Is The Reading Response To Towards An Aesthetic Of... Reading Response to Towards an Aesthetic of Popular Music. In the Article, Towards an Aesthetic of Popular Music, Simon Frith proposes a new way to look at the value of popular music. He argues that people listen to music to create a sense of identity, express feelings, and have a sense of time. Therefore the aesthetic of popular music is how well the music performs those specific tasks. He then went on to break down how the proposed aethstetic could be measured using the music itself, voice, and the sense of truth. To support his argument of identity, feelings, and time he brought in specific facts to illustrate each point. For the creation of an identity he explained that Irish music is played in Irish pups because it makes the patrons ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Why Does Priestley Use The Inspector To Convey His Own... An Inspector Calls How does Priestley use the character of the Inspector to convey his own opinions and attitudes? An Inspector Calls, set in 1912, is a play with many social and political messages. J. B. Priestley believed a great deal in socialism and believed that many other people needed to be more caring about their community and the people in it. Priestley uses the character of the Inspector to convey his own thoughts, feelings and opinions about social issues. However, he also uses other characters, particularly Mr.Birling, to show the audience how cynical some people can be. It is possible that J.B.Priestley set this play in 1912 for a reason. Arthur Birling is a rich businessman who thinks very highly of himself, even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This tactic could have been to ensure that his viewers continued to think about the story and hence would also have to think about the issues of Socialism and this is something which he was desperate to do. The Inspector s aim in the play is to change thoughts and opinions of the Birling family and the audience viewing. One of the ways he attempts to do this is by questioning each one of the Birling s in turn. The Inspector firsts interrogates Mr.Birling, asking him why he dismissed Eva Smith from her job at his factory, just for asking for more money. Birling was surprised at being questioned, so it seems that what he says is usually accepted as correct. His surprise could also be because of exactly what the Inspector was questioning. Birling says that it is his duty to keep labour costs down which indicates that he does not think of each worker as a person and cares a great deal about money. The fact that he did not recognise the name Eva Smith even though she was someone he dealt with directly and a worker who stood out, further shows that he does not think of his employees as people. To him they are nameless and have no individuality. Priestley has done this to make audience members realize that even if a person has a very minor job, or is poorer than most, they still deserve to be treated with respect. The Inspector recognises early on that Sheila ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Loyalists During The American Revolutionary War As new people of this nation, some of us these days may not have much information on how early, people came to have their own independence in this country of America. All we know was that because of the war and all those waring to another nation. We do not understand how things gotten into a war though and how much we literally understand how our ancestors got their own land dispute with all those historic wars. It was just fascinating to me to go off and explore. From a young age, I knew the Universe was infinite but tapped into the basic human instinct to explore. I would play with models, and use computer programs to look at planets and stars. I was given a telescope when I was ten or eleven for Christmas and became even more entrenched with space. It was just always fascinating to me and to this day it still is. That s why when NASA announced that they had found seven exoplanets orbiting a star not too far away, called Trappist. When I say not too far away it is still not reachable for humans at this point. Trappist is two hundred thirty five trillion miles away, or forty light years. It takes the light from Trappist forty years to reach us. If we could travel the speed of light, which is nowhere near possible, it would take forty years to get there. Da Gama starts off his journal by describing his voyage to the Bay of St. Helena in 1497, also describing himself as the Captain Major in third person. Da Gama had anchored in the bay for eight days to clean their ships and took captive on of the natives, feeding him and dressing him well, he was returned to land and that helped da Gama gain entry with the other natives to their land. He describes the inhabitants as ...tawny colored. Their food is confined to the flesh of seals, whales and gazelles, and the roots of herbs. They are dressed in skins, and wear sheaths over their virile members. They are armed with poles of olive wood to which a horn, browned in the fire, is attached. Their numerous dogs resemble those of Portugal, and bark like them. Da Gama notices the similarity of dogs in St. Helena to those of his home country of Portugal, which I don t think he expected to see. Vasco goes on to explain how he showed them merchandise that he brought from Portugal and all the natives were amazed by it. The following night, da Gama is at supper and then says that he hears shouting and sees one of his crew being chased by the natives across the beach and quickly they depart from this bay, due to some miscommunication where the natives started to attack them. Relationship Between Leaf Size And Annual Sex Expression Relationship between leaf size and annual sex expression in Arisaema triphyllum VICKY NGUYEN University of Toronto, Scarborough Summary Disparity in cost of reproduction has lead sexually reproducing plants to develop different methods of dealing with the cost of reproduction, an example of this is sequential hermaphroditism, where an individual can change sex at one point in their life. Jack in the pulpit, Arisaema triphyllum, is a sexually dimorphic plant that exhibits sequential hermaphroditism, this study looks to see if female A. triphyllum will exhibit the largest leaf sizes due to their need to meet higher costs of reproduction. Forty individuals were surveyed for sex and largest leaf length per area for 7 different locations within Morningside ravine. Individuals were analyzed for mean leaf length per sex, and means were analyzed for significance with a 1 way ANOVA followed by a tukey test. All means were found to be significantly different from each other with the mean of females leaves the largest, followed by males, and asexual individuals were the smallest. Female individuals of A. triphyllum had the largest leaf sizes to compensate for their elevated costs of reproduction. • 15. Fears And Application Of Skepticism Towards Witchcraft Essay The Heightening and Application of Skepticism towards Witchcraft Throughout the period ranging from the late 16th to early 18th century, the witchcraft mania and trials dominated the religious, secular, and popular spheres of life. Within the mainstream popular beliefs in magic and the prosecution of such acts, there existed the few, but strong voices of skepticism. These skeptical works did stir up these popular beliefs; however, these opposing views did not generate much change. Where these views are able to clear a path towards to the decline and eradication of witchcraft trials is ultimately within the application of these views. While the authors and speakers from the skeptical texts written in the late 16th to early 18th century were interested in combating and reformulating the popular beliefs in witchcraft and its many faces, the major manifestation of their skepticism results in a critique of the process of witchcraft trials, their legal methodology, and their validity in a moral and reasonable society. Many of the skeptics within the time in and surrounding the 17th century were concerned, as many early writers had been, with the reality of magic as a whole. Living within the uprising of witchcraft trials and beliefs in 1584, Reginald Scot appeared as an unaided voice of skepticism against a sea of passionate belief. In his text, Discoverie of Witchcraft, Scot outlines the crimes witches are often committed for, but omits the crimes of magical sorts. He sites ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Effects Of Extracurricular Activities On Sports... Although many theorists criticize that the extracurricular activities takes valuable time from the family, relaxation and leisure time, especially sport participation requires more and more time due to its increase in competiveness and amount of practice (Melman et al., 2008; Shaw et al., 1996 in Fredericks, 2012). In Fredericks study (2012), the unique time requirement in sports participation is explained as an enforcer to develop even stronger relationships, better refinement of the skills and most importantly more conscientiousness. The media concentrates on the highly involved students, which make approximately 3 6% of the entire high school student body, that clock in over 20 h per week, whereas the average of students participates 7 8 h per week in afterschool program, which means they stay for less then 1.5 h more after school (Fredericks, 2012). Paradoxically, according to Mahoney et al. (2006 in Fredericks, 2012) actually the most involved students, at least 20 h/per week, showed better capability in adjusting to the academically and psychological demands. These results are only applicable to a very few amount of students and not to the majority of the American population. In research, a small correlation between intensity of the extracurricular activity and negative adjustment has been proven in boys, but overall the achievement pressure made by parents, the athletes themselves, the society, the century we live in and their surroundings has shown to be much more ... Fitzgerald brings light to Gatsby s humanity and God figure by creating two versions of him in the text: Gatz and Gatsby. However, which version is real, and which is a failed manifestation of the other? It is evident in the text that the real version, or person, is in fact James Gatz. Jay Gatsby is only a gilded version of James Gatz, created by the mind of a seventeen year old. It is ironic that Gatsby changed his entire life, however he thinks that everything can return to the way it was in the past, more specifically the relationship between Daisy and Gatsby. Their love for each other is now tainted on both sides, one because Daisy also loves Tom, and that Gatsby does not truly love Daisy anymore. He loves the idea of Daisy and the memories they have had together, almost envisioning her as a perfect being. Some people are quick to blame computers, television, and other sources as the driving forces behind childhood obesity. Food for thought: Who allows the child to sit in front of the computer or television for hours? Computers and televisions have become built in babysitters for some parents Television and the Internet may contribute to obesity rates a little; however, these are not the only factors that decide whether a child becomes obese. In fact, according to the WHO survey, parents are just as much at fault for making their children obese as outside influences are. Mothers tipped the scale with 91 percent of them being primary caregivers in the telephone survey, and were the ones responsible for the foods offered to, cooked for (and chosen by) the children. A parent allowing access to so many choices of unhealthy snacks convenient foods, and sitting in front of the television or Internet is only part of the problem. • 23. Do Consequences Depend on Motives in Julius Caesar by... An American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr once said, All human sin seems so much worse in its consequences than in its intentions. In this statement, Niebuhr exclaims that the consequences of a situation are undeniably much worse than the motivation of one s instigation of their actions. This applies to the intentions and, more importantly, the consequences of the characters in both the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare and film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps directed by Oliver Stone. Even though some people have honorable intentions and mean no harm, the consequences can still be disastrous. In much the same way, those with fraudulent intentions also suffer in the end. Situations like these can be accurately viewed through both the play and the film. The characters Brutus and Jacob Moore have no other reason but to act in a worthy way. While Cassius and Gordon Gekko have deceptive intentions, consequences incur similar to Brutus and Jacob Moore. The intentions may seem like the most important consideration in a decision, but, in reality, the penalties can be the same no matter what the motives are. A motive to kill one s best friend requires deep thinking and a reasonable intention. Brutus, Caesar s best friend, has taken into consideration why he thinks killing Caesar is necessary. Although Brutus is Caesar s best friend, he has to come to conclusion that murdering him is his final decision when he asserts, Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome ... All of the problems have the same dilemma being no one can agree on what the actual cause of these problems are so they don t know where to begin on fixing them. Some of these problems include equality between men and women, environmental protection, political freedoms and so many more things. A very big issue right now is the amount of gun violence that takes place in our Country every day. It may sound too obvious that the cause of violence is the lack of control on guns, but it is actually much more extensive and the cause has many parts to it. War Horse is a novel adapted by Nick Stafford and written by Michael Morpurgo. The performance I saw was directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, it also involved the incredible Handspring Puppet Company who created all the animals. War Horse is set in Devon in 1914 and is about how a farmer, Ted Narracott who is played by Jamie Kenna buys a thoroughbred horse rather than a plough animal, but when his teenage son Albert played by Siôn Daniel Young trains the horse and calls him Joey, the two becoming inseparable. For example when the actors were fence posts they held long canes to represent a fence. The horses responded to being penned in by backing away from the fences, again effectively allowing smooth transitions. Another important aspect of the performance was the use of costumes. The costumes were authentic of the early twentieth century and they were effective as they helped set the scene. In Devon people mostly wore farming clothes and the soldiers in the war wore army uniforms. An interesting contrast that I saw was that The Handspring Puppet actors for Joey always wore the farmer s clothes even when he was serving in the army. Whereas the army horse, Topthorn operated by Richard Booth, Sergio Priftis and Antony Antunes always wore army clothes. This suggested to me that despite Joey being forced to be a War Horse he belonged in Devon. There were many moments in the play that effectively conveyed the themes. One particular scene in Act Two stood out for me, this when Albert and one of his fellow soldiers, David were hiding in the trench. The themes that were conveyed here were loyalty and love. They were both talking about their loved ones which for Albert was Joey and the other soldier, David talked about his girlfriend, Floss. That scene was interesting as it used comedy in contrast to the horror of the war. It started with a joke of how Floss looked like a horse but then the tension increased again when suddenly David soldier said to Albert I put my foot in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two poems, To Lucasta, going to the Wars by Richard Lovelace and Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen are both devoted to the subject of war. Lovelace s poem was written in the 17th century and as well as almost all the poetry of the period has romantic diction. The war is shown as something truly worthwhile, glossed and honorable for a man. The protagonist is leaving his beloved for the battlefield and his tone is pathetic and solemn. Since x rays were discovered in 1895, there have been several improvements made to diagnostic x ray to make it safer for both the patient and the radiographer. Some of these improvements include, aluminum filters, protective housing, lead shields/ aprons, and quicker exposure film. These changes have undoubtedly improved the diagnostic radiation process, however both patient and radiographer will still receive some dose of radiation. The effects of radiation on tissue are divided into two types: deterministic and stochastic. A deterministic effect describes ionizing radiation induced damage that occurs once a certain threshold is exceeded and increases in severity the greater the dose.1. (pg2 3) Some of the more extreme deterministic effects that occur with exposure to high amounts of radiation in a short period of time are: Skin Erythema/Necrosis, cataracts, sterility, radiation sickness, and death. Stochastic effects are probabilistic and there is no threshold amount that must be reached. As the amount of exposure increases so does probability of effects. However the amount of exposure does not correspond to the severity of the effects. Some of the stochastic risk can include development of various types of cancer and hereditary defects. It is more difficult to track the long term stochastic effects that occur during chronic low doses exposure because there are other additional factors that must be taken into account. • 34. Life On Earth Is Dependent On The Functions Of Light As A... Life on earth is dependent on the functions of light as a source of energy that has a direct or indirect effect on the sustainability of all organisms. Light is defined as a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum detected by human eyes (Wilson, Nivillac, Sheng, 2016, p.4); light as it passes through a space, acts like waves and is composed of photon, containing a stream of energy particles. Light must be absorbed by an organism to utilize it as a source of energy, however; absorption occurs when photon s energy is transmitted to an electron, matches with the energy needed to elevate the electron from a ground state to an explicit excited state within a molecule. Energy from the sun as a light source enters the biosphere by the process of photosynthesis, through which the energy of light is used to convert carbon dioxide into organic compounds. The balanced chemical equation for the overall process of photosynthesis is: 6CO₂ + 12H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂+ 6H₂O (Wilson, Nivillac, Sheng, 2016, p.145) Photosynthesis occurs in two different processes: the light reaction and the Calvin cycle. This lab focuses on the light reaction stage of photosynthesis in which the light energy is captured by pigment molecules and utilize energy to synthesize NADPH and ATP, resulting in the production of oxygen (O₂) (Wilson, Nivillac, Sheng, 2016, p.146).
