Aristophanes Clouds
Aristophanes Clouds is a story centered around a man named Strepsiades. Strepsiades has a son
named Pheidippides, who is obsessed with racehorses. Pheidippides expensive taste in hobbies has
strained the family financially. After calculating his debts, Strepsiades becomes enraged at
Pheidippides. He begs him to turn away from his obsession and enroll himself at a school that would
make him wise, thus enabling him to outwit their creditors in court. Because Pheidippides refuses to
go to the school, Strepsiades goes himself. Upon arriving at the school, Strepsiades meets a student
who tells him about the new experiments that are taking place. Strepsiades then meets Socrates, who

But if you consort with me, then use your nature, leap, laugh, believe that nothing is shameful! (page

also believes that nothing is a sin, or a crime. He says, For if you get caught as an adulterer, you ll
reply to him that you ve done him no injustice (page 159, 1075). Therefore, Unjust speech doesn t
believe in justice. Essentially, Just speech advocates moderation in all things, respect of elders and
traditions, a good reputation, and the gods. Unjust speech believes that moderation is evil, respect of
elders and traditions is unnecessary, a good reputation is not needed, and the gods don t exist.
Fundamentally, Just and Unjust speech are polar opposites of one

John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism
Happiness in terms of logic is considered to be a vague expression, meaning it has a wide range of
interpretations, as well as having no clear meaning. John Stuart Mill, an English philosopher, based
his controversial sentiments of happiness on Jeremy Bentham s utilitarianism, believing that goods are
the means to greatest happiness for the greatest number of peoples. Epicurus, an Ancient Greek
philosopher, who similarly encouraged people to follow his pleasure based philosophy to obtain
happiness. Unlike Mill, Epicurus philosophy is based on individualistic hedonism, which often may
seem more practical and acceptable. Although, Mill s utilitarianism is indeed a form of social
hedonism rather than individual pleasure seeking, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, unlike Jeremy Bentham, the father of utilitarianism, Mill was able to clarify
misinterpretations and controversies by additionally incorporating his own social, political and moral
theories that seemed fit with the philosophy.
Epicureanism belongs in the same hedonistic category as Mill s utilitarianism, but unlike
utilitarianism, Epicurean principles are not commonly used in American government and politics.
From afar, Epicureanism may seem the most practical and relatable because one may look and assume
that it is simply about indulging in pleasures as long as it makes you happy. However, that is a naive
interpretation, as Epicureanism promotes pleasure, but only the natural and necessary ones. Along
with only following the natural and necessary pleasures, it also highlights the importance of
suppressing desires that cause one to long for pleasures that aren t necessary.
In Epicurus Principal Doctrines, he writes, on a basis of power sufficient to afford supports and of
material prosperity arises in most genuine form the security of a private life withdrawn from the
multitude (2), meaning that wealth should not be a good that contributes to happiness. This may be
relatable and useful for certain individuals who devalue material goods, however, this would not be
plausible for the American

The Wind Of The Willows, By Kenneth Grahame
Journeys provoke travellers, that may ultimately lead to transformation of self and leave the traveller
far richer for the experience
In both The Wind in the Willows, and Journey to the Interior, the idea that journeys may provoke
travellers and ultimately lead to transformation of self and richer experiences, is clearly exhibited
within. Depending on an entity s current perspective, they may either embody provocative views, such
as the Rat in the Wind in the Willows and also the persona in Journey to the Interior, or even have an
accepting perspective to journey, such as the character of Toad. Through the use of tone, symbolism
and also truncated sentences, the quote is partially accurate in The Wind in the Willows, but

Ultimately, because of the nature of the character of Rat, it is clear that this individual despises and
fears the idea of journey, showcasing how an entity s current perspective, can impede on their view
on, and appreciation of journey.
Moreover, in The Wind in the Willows, the idea that journey can lead to transformation of self, and
rich experiences is exhibited in Toad s ecstatic perception of journey. In this extract of the novel, Toad
believes that adventure is the only means of fulfilling and experiencing a real animalistic life; That s
real life for you, embodied in that little cart . The cart is symbolic of Toad s ambitious nature, which is
manifested through his jubilant tone and positive attitude in response to change and adventure. This
optimistic view on journey proves that transformation of self and rich experiences is attained by
undertaking journey. Toad illustrates an image of journey as being something life changing; Travel,
change, interest, excitement! The whole world before you and a horizon that s always changing . The
cumulative listing of the intangible rewards associated with journey, emphasizes how adventure can
lead to richer experiences . Additionally the metaphoric phrase of the changing horizon represents
Toad s intention of adventure and acceptance of and fearfulness of change. Subsequently, because of
Toad s optimistic and accepting perspective on journey, the quote is

Social Pressure And Voter Turnout Essay
While reading a variety of political science articles I have found the conventional wisdom on a
multitude of influences and their correlation with voter turnout. Generally what I found while reading
is that there is often a motivational factor that causes a person to perform their civic duty by voting .
My understanding of the conventional wisdom is that when there is some source of social pressure
motivations, it often leads to an increase in voter turnout.
Adding to the belief that social pressures influence voter turnout, Alan Gerber, Donald Green and
Christopher Larimer in Social Pressure and Voter Turnout: Evidence from a Large Scale Field
Experiment, test the effects of priming intrinsic motives and applying varying degrees and extrinsic
pressure. Their research attempts to show the extent by which social pressure increases voter turnout.
Before the Michigan primary election in August of 2006, researchers sent out one of four various
mailings to several register voters in the state, so about 80,000 households. These various mailings
were sent out to encourage these individuals to vote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers concluded that social pressure through the direct mail has an effective result, it
increased voter turnout. Higher voting poll turnout was observed among those who received the letters
promising to publish their turnout record to their household or their neighbor. This shows just how
much social pressure can influence political participation among voters. This remarkable increase in
turnout, observe the authors, exceeds the effect of live phone calls and rivals the effect of face to face
contact with canvassers conducting get out the vote campaigns. They argue that social pressure is most
effective in increasing voter turnout than other methods. This study provides new insight into the
phenomenon of voter mobilization and to what extent social pressure has on voter s decision to turn

Comparing Douglas Adams Difficulty With My Life-Style
1. Douglas Adams uses cause and effect to make a persuasive agrument about the relative impact of
the an action by explaining cause and effect is a never ending cycle. Adam s text is shows how people
actions can effect people/things and aren t consciously aware of how this effect people every day life.
There is nothing that can be done to prevent the effects of the actions that are being taken it is just a
part of life. Arthur said, I seem to be having a tremendous difficulty with my life style by Arthur
saying caused a tremendous war that could of been prevented for happening. However that was not the

A rhetorial similarity between The Penultimate Peril and The Hitchiker s Guide is both texts argue that
cause and effect have a cycle that keeps going and certain things led to something and than back
again. Peoples actions determine the different outcomes that a person decides to do. Than the
outcomes have other outcomes and that continues to go in a circle. A difference between the two texts
is Adams thinks each individual cause has a specific outcome while Snickets thinks an action can have
many outcomes. In The Hitchiker s Guide the reader can see there is only one cause to why everything
happen he is more specific in his story. In The Penultimate Peril Snickets the reader can see the
mysteries could have been solved in many ways. Snikets follow the basic rule of cause and effect
which shows any effect can have multiple possible causes; the task of cause and effect is to determine
the correct one. Snicket made a metaphor to that when he said, the world is like a calm pond, and that
anytime a person does even the smallest thing, it is as if a stone has dropped into the pond, spreading
circles of ripples further and further out, until the entire world has been changed by one tiny action.
One action can have many possibles to be

Competitive Advantages Of A Competitive Company

and delivering a high quality of products and services in appropriately priced to be the best than
anybody else. But what are the elements of a competitive company? Here are some factors that helps
the organization to become a competitor in market.
1. Cost leadership:
It is a business strategy that allows a company to lowest cost production in an industry. There are two
options in businesses to improve profits, increasing or decreasing costs. This strategy focuses on

6. Encourage workers to talk with their leader:
Especially about their problems. Employees feel safe when they speak or ask for a help from their
leader rather than to feel fearful, this will leads to better performance outcomes. Feeling safe in the
workplace supports the spirit of experimentation for new innovations. Kamal (2015) shown that
empowerment, when coupled with good training and teamwork, leads to superior performance
outcomes whereas a range of efficient manufacturing and operations practices do not . (Kamal, 2015)
A positive workplace is the best successful place over the time because its well being and increases
positive emotions. In turn, it amplifies people s ability and creativity and improve their relationship
with other co workers. Also it improving employee s ability to attack challenges and difficulties while
boosting their health. This make the employees more loyal to the organizations and the leader as well
as bringing out their best strengths.

management. First step is unfreeze people always need to understand why things should done in
another ways. The process of unfreezing is sensitive culture, which means explaining why the

wealth, power, and prestige. In the United States there is the upper, middle, and lower class.
Therefore, based on how much wealth or income an individual has, they are placed in one of the three
categories. The upper class is considered the elite of society. They have the means to buy anything
they desire. The article states that fashion has always been a way to distinguish between social classes.
The article uses the example of the Kimono in Japan and how it used to classify what social rank the

Camus Literary Devices
Camus uses many literary devices in order to portray the theme or purpose of his novel. He uses these
literary devices so the reader can uncover the meaning behind his novel. One device he decides to use
is a motif. In a literary work, a motif can be perceived as an image, sound, action or other figures that
have a symbolic importance and is an influence toward the development of theme. Watching and
observing is the motif that Camus includes in his novel. Throughout the novel either it is the main
protagonist, Meursault, who is watching and observing others or it is others who are observing him.
Meursault s emotional apathy influences to his general passiveness. Absent of ambition and
aspirations of his own, Meursault infrequently appears to

A Case For The Foreclosure Proceeding
This case arises out of a foreclosure proceeding initiated in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City by
substitute trustees Thomas P. Dore, Mark S. Devan, Gerard F. Miles, Jr., Shannon Menapace, and Erin
Gloth (collectively, the Substitute Trustees ), appellees. In the foreclosure proceedings, the Substitute
Trustees filed an order to docket a foreclosure with respect to real property located at 3517 Woodstock
Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21213 ( the Property ) owned by mortgagor Celeste Wenegieme (
Wenegieme ), appellant. Following the sale of Wenegieme s property and the ratification of that sale,
the purchaser of the property, Wells Fargo Bank, M.A. ( Wells Fargo ), filed a motion for judgment
awarding possession of the property. The circuit court granted Well s Fargo s motion and this timely
appeal followed. On appeal, Wenegieme challenges the sale of the property. Indeed, Wenegieme
presents one question for our review, which we have rephrased as follows:
Whether the circuit court erred in granting Wells Fargo s motion for judgment awarding possession.
For the reasons set forth herein, we shall affirm the judgments of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.
FACTS AND PROCEEDINGS In June of 2008, Wenegieme purchased the Property in exchange for a
note and a Deed of Trust made to the order of Advisors Mortgage Group, LLC, in the amount of
$216,956 plus interest. The note was subsequently transferred to Wells Fargo. In February of 2012, the

scary to eat food that may just stab you in the back. Have you ever worried about an incurable
infection being in your food, though? It s not a common thought, but actually the feeding of antibiotics

antibiotics, such as for a virus, can eventually contribute to making a superbug, again according to the
CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 February 2017, para. 2 5). There are already
many instances of superbugs taking people s lives. For example, just this January 2017, the CDC
reported that a Washoe County resident in Reno, Nevada died in late September 2016 because she had
an infection from a superbug that could not be cured by every available antibiotic in the United States
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 August 2017, para. 1 5). Posted on the Infectious

Lack of Freedom Of Speech in Sudan Essay
The largest country in the African continent is Sudan. The population in the country is more or less 33
million that speaks about 130 languages/dialects. Majority of the people are Africans and Arabs. Even
though the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) was endorsed by Sudanese
government in 1986 that guaranteed the right to freedom of expression and press in 1998 constitution,
there is no actual practice of this right. Sudan is one of the very few countries where media is under

It won t be incorrect to state that Sudan has no respect and reverence for the freedom of speech,

is one of the worst regimes in the world when it comes to the access to free and assorted information,

Natural Gas Mining Or Mineral Extraction
Since land subsidence is one of the most difficult natural hazards to predict, humans are often
provided with little to no warning of a drop in ground elevation. This downward shift of elevation is a
common side effect of disasters, both natural and human induced. Land Subsidence can be triggered
by disasters such as earthquakes or the over mining of natural resources. Subsidence is often not
discussed as a common conversation topic, which has led to many people lacking knowledge on how
to monitor an area or be prepared to help prevent it from happening. There are approaches that people
can take to mitigate the chances of causing land subsidence due to activities within their control, such

Differences Between Hamlet And Hamlet
Science has not yet taught us if madness is or is not the sublimity of the intelligence (Edgar Allen
Poe). Madness can be viewed differently by different audiences, In Shakespeare s play, Hamlet, the
main character is portrayed as mad by the other characters; however, a discerning eye could view him
as the only truly intelligent one because he sees the truth. An argument would be that Hamlet is not
insane, but rather intelligent and the only sane one. Likewise, In Emily Dickinson s poem, Much
Madness is Divinest Sense , has similar themes and views on madness that relate to Hamlet. Both
pieces view madness as a divine sense of intelligence and sanity. In William Shakespeare s Hamlet,
madness and irrational behavior is judged reasonable and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the themes prominent in both works is: the tension between ideal and real. This theme is found
commonly throughout Hamlet and helps to add the the idea that Hamlet not actually mad; but rather,
the only one to see reality. Ideally to a normal eye it would be reasonable to judge Hamlet and his
behavior as irrational; however, to a discerning eye, he would be judged as being sane and the only
rational character, which would often cause tension between the characters. An example of this theme
found in Hamlet is seen when he is talking about how his mother should have taken more time to
grieve his father s death before moving on, but in reality she was able to to quickly recover and marry
Hamlet s uncle. Hamlet says, Would have mourn d longer! Married with mine uncle, My father s
brother, but no more like my father (I.ii.150 154). This theme can also relate back to Dickinson s
poem, she writes about how when people see things on their ideal ways, it creates tension between the
two groups of people. Dickinson writes, Tis the majority in this, as All, prevail... (Dickinson). This
further explains the concept of the majority of a society would see the ideal views which leads to the
tension throughout a society. Another universal theme found in both works is: The clash between
appearance and reality. There are numerous examples of this theme found in Hamlet. One example
would b, a conversation between Horatio and Bernado. Shakespeare writes, (Bernado) How now,
Horatio! You tremble and look pale! Is not this something more than fantasy? What think you on t?
(Horatio) Before my God, I might not this believe without the sensible and true avouch of mine own
eyes (I.ii.52 59). This conversation states that he needs to see something to believe it; but, then asks

The Centres For Disease Control Released A Report Essay
Plan/Problem
On September 24th 2014, the Centres for Disease Control released a report stating the United States of
America has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the developed world, with a rate of 6.1 infant
deaths per 1000 live births.
Sarah C P Williams from the John Hopkins University in the United States, published a report for the
Stanford University School of Medicine identifying that that poor infant survival rates in the United
States are intrinsically linked to high rates of preterm births those that occur when a woman is
between 22 and 37 weeks pregnant, rather than the full term of 37 41 weeks.
When a fetus has experienced a gestation period of 37 weeks, it s organ systems are defined mature
and are able to support and sustain life.
When a fetus experiences a shortened period of gestation, their organ systems are underdeveloped.
They do not have fully formed lungs, their nervous system and brain connection are not established
and their senses are still in the process of maturing. By all accounts, the fetus is fragile and is
unprepared to support and sustain life in the extra uterine environment.
Baby Centre, a digital parenting and pregnancy resource supplies a gestational timeline and outlook
for premature babies. It states that
almost all infants born earlier than 28 weeks require oxygen and mechanical assistance to support their
breathing. Infants at this age are unable to breathe while simultaneously sucking and swallowing so

The daguerreotype image was contained inside a leather case with a velvet backing. The
daguerreotype was then replaced in 1851. Flash photography became popular once it was discovered.
Flash photography started off having the flash be made from a white powder that was ignited, but as
time went on it changed from that to a bulb that was on the top of the camera. It helped many people,
who could not afford pictures due to the fact that paintings were expensive. This was beneficial to
mainly the middle and lower classes in society.
In order to capture the moment and be able to keep it is by using negatives. Negatives are used film

different pictures, the main material needed besides a camera is lenses. In 1849, the first lens was

disinfection purposes. Pathogens present in drinking water can cause serious diseases upon
consumption and therefore need to be treated (Safe Drinking Water Foundation, 2009). Chlorination is
one of the various methods that is used to deactivate these pathogens and can be found in operation at
many municipal works across the country, including Killylane water treatment works. It is often found
as one of the final stages in a multiple stage treatment process, usually following a filtration process.
Pathogens come in a variety of forms, such as viruses, bacteria or protozoa, and can have devastating,
even fatal consequences if not treated in a water supply. Before the mainstream introduction of
disinfection into the water treatment process, waterborne pathogens regularly caused epidemics, and
diseases like typhoid, cholera and dysentery were rife (Scientific American, 1998). As has been
mentioned in the previous chapter, the rapid gravity filtration process is relatively ineffective at
removing these pathogens from the water and therefore disinfection is required as a follow up
treatment. Adding chlorine to water can inhibit a large range of microbial waterborne pathogens, either
killing them or decreasing their activity to a

The person who was doing the introspection would be fully aware of when and what stimulus would
be presented to them. This ensured that the observer was in full control of the experience. The
stimulus would then be presented many times. Introspection was commonly done when the observer
was awaiting the stimulus and when they were reacting to its presentation. It was through using
introspection that Wundt and his students concluded that the sensations and feelings are what
constitute the activity in our minds. They believed that the combination of or the relationship between
sensations and feelings are what creates constantly shifting psychological processing. (King et al

Global Warming Warning Essay examples
Global Warming Warning
In 2007, the Arctic reached a 30 year low for sea ice (University of Colorado at Boulder). This is
because of global warming or what scientists refer to climate change. The issue with global warming
is that it has impactions for damage to future generations. Prevention of a global climate change
depends on early detection of human made effects on climate. The current views on global warming
are; those who do not think that the Earth is undergoing a climate change, others that believe the Earth
is going through a climate change due to humans, and some who believe that Earth is going through a
climate change but is not because of human activities. In order to understand global warming, we have

Using that methodology the air trapped in the ice can be tested to determine atmospheric gases in the
past. The speed in which temperature has increased over the last few decades is alarming compared to
the rate over the last century. Global surface temperature has increased 0.6 degrees Celsius in the past
thirty years, and 0.8 in the last century (Hansen 14288). The significant increase can be directly
related to the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. For the last 650,000 years, atmospheric
CO2 has never been above 300 parts per million (Hansen 14288). In 1950 CO2 parts per million were
at 280, today they are at 380. Direct observations indicate that CO2 is rising sharply due to human
activity (Cook). The main source of CO2 emissions is the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and
gas in power plants, automobiles, and industrial facilities (United States Environmental Protection
Agency). It is most evident in the addition of automobiles on the road today. Motor vehicles have been
rising by 3.69 million each year since 1960. Currently there are over 255 million registered passenger
vehicles on the road today (U.S Department Of Transportation).
It is difficult to get people concerned about global warming because it is a problem of the future.

Demonetization is the act of stripping a currency unit of its status as legal tender. It occurs whenever

The Legacy Of The Olympic Games

The Salute Seen Around the World For nearly as long as humans have been around, some form of
athletic competition has also existed. Dating back to the ancient Romans, people would travel from all
around to see their men compete. Since 1894, the International Olympic Committee has organized the
worldwide event we know as the modern Olympic Games. The games have for a long time been a
center point of many protests, revolving around the current events and arguments of the time.
American sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos created one of the most iconic and socially
important Olympic protests at the 1968 Summer Games, when they raised their fists up while giving
the Black Panther salute on the podium. A gesture that has been celebrated, criticized, and discussed to
this day.
The Olympic Games are one of the most followed events in the world. As the games grew in
popularity and viewership, thanks to the improvements of technology throughout the 20th Century,
these protests became more recognizable. The Olympics create an international platform with one of
the largest viewing audiences of any TV event, making it very easy to send ones message to many

Athletes And Performance Enhancing Drugs
Athletes of all ages are always looking for that extra edge to excel in their sport. Living in a world
filled with competition, this could be a challenge for certain athletes who want to progress and get to
the next level. Many athletes have a strong desire for recognition and fame. Unfortunately, that makes
some athletes who are determined to win at any cost, motivated to experiment with illegal substances
even knowing the consequences. Being in sports that require significant strength and endurance my
whole life, I have had experience with performance enhancing drugs in the past and currently. I
believe the safest way to achieve your goals is to train naturally, but many athletes do not have the
patience for that and choose to take substances that put their health at risk. In most cases, if an athlete
believes that they have reached their peak of performance or feel they are struggling to progress they
will likely seek out something to enhance their performance. Depending on their sport, they will want
to increase their strength, energy and endurance. Performance enhancing drugs deliver a significant
boost in those areas, which attract athletes to use them. Also, how easy an athlete can get ahold of
these substances is almost scary. Any athlete can simply order almost all performance enhancing drug
you can think of online. This is also a huge health risk because most athletes are unaware of the
ingredients and the source isn t guaranteed to be reliable, any site could

Analysis of The Charge of the Light Brigade Essay
Analysis of The Charge of the Light Brigade
This particular poem deals with the unfortunate mistake of Battle of
Balaclava in 1854. In an attempt to retrieve their stolen firearms, the British, lead by Lord Raglen,
took their light cavalry to the innocent Turkish territory, rather than the guilty Russians. In self
defence Turkey protect themselves by attacking the British troops causing hundreds of deaths but not,
not the six hundred .
Tennyson uses various techniques to involve the reader more personally. He uses this to emphasise the
pain and suffering felt by the soldiers so the reader can really appreciate the physical defeat but the

The cavalry retreat back through the valley where they had previously been. This is shown by the
repetition of most of stanza three. The final canto concludes the Battle of Balaclava and
Tennyson s thoughts of war are confirmed. Although he finds the reason for their fighting, unwise,
calling their charge wild . However, he adds that the Light Brigade and their charge should be held in
honour even though he agrees with the fruitlessness of war. This reflects thoughts of people who find
war ineffective but they will realise that the noble six hundred should be held in high esteem and
respect. Although the Light Brigade lost the battle they won the moral victory over their critics.
Tennyson questions the authority of war in The Charge of the Light
Brigade . He wrote this poem based on the Battle of Balaclava because a huge mistake was made by
the authoritative figure, Lord Raglen, which caused many deaths. Although the troops knew some one
had blunder d , they did not question it. He wants to show that even though a person is higher, richer
or more powerful than other they can still be vulnerable in making errors. This questions Victorian
authority and whether they are making the right decision concerning the lives of British people. Poets
in the twentieth century have also taken this argument into account most namely in Siegfried Sassoon

Private brands help retailers to increase sales which indirectly add to the bottom line (profit). However
store brands are priced 20 30% less than the branded goods. Store brands can used as a powerful tool
i.e. The general feeling is that in times of recession, private labels increase their market share, but tend
to maintain that market share as economies recover. Thus store brands prove to be a useful tool,
depending upon how it is created. Tasty treat is private brand of future group.
1.2.2 EVOLUTION OF PRIVATE LABEL (STORE) BRANDS: The definition of private label
branding has evolved significantly over time. Some would argue the term private label is a misnomer
of great proportions. There is no question that the words private label acknowledges the birth, history
and existence of generic and store brands. Yet, the term does not adequately capture the extent to
which private label has progressed. Today s retail marketers are managing their proprietary brands
with the same combination of care and innovation as manufacturers of national brands. In recent
years, retailers have been liberating themselves from the traditional definition of private label
marketing as being the poor relative of national brand consumer goods, and, in doing so, opening up
huge opportunities for private label branding. These opportunities require the adoption of a different

Portrayal Of Women In The Odyssey Essay
hough women play a central role in The Odyssey written by famous author Homer the portrayal and
characterization of said women highlights the negative portrayal of women at the time as well as
shows double standards that still plague our society today. All of the women are characterized with
few traits, most of which only describe their looks, while the reader is constantly reminded of all of
Odysseus good traits, most of which have nothing to do with his looks. Even Penelope, who is
portrayed as the ideal woman, is only ever described as beautiful and faithful . Sadly, this sexism is
reflected in the Ancient Greek s patriarchal society in which women were considered the property of
men and they were married off with or without consent at very young ages. Women play a central role
in the Odyssey, yet due to the Ancient Greek s society prejudices the women are written in a way that
clearly highlights the double standards of society and the way men used to portray women. In the
society of Ancient Greece women were never in charge of their own decisions and often had little to
no say in them and were often married at young ages and were judged, not by her own achievements,
but by their looks, and the wealth and status of their fathers or husbands. Even Penelope seems to
acknowledge this when she says My looks, my face, my carriage, were soon faded or lost. knowing
that is what the people of the Ancient Greek society judged people on. After Odysseus is presumed

Three Years She Grew And There Will Come Soft Rain
Most people never understand the importance of literary devices. In almost every poem these devices
are used portray things in different ways. In most poems you can see similarities through the literary
devices used by the author. The three poems, Three Years She Grew by William Wordsworth, There
Will Come Soft Rain by Sara Teasdale, and The Sound of Night by Maxine Kumin, the only similarity
to the common eye is nature, but if the reader analyses more in depth, they will be able to see they all
use literary devices to explain how humans interact and balance powers differently throughout their
coexistence with nature. In the first poem, Three Years She Grew , nature is like an overprotecting
mother figure. Nature has all the power over this young girl and uses this power to shape her into a
beautiful young women. The quote, And beauty born of murmuring sound Shall pass into her face

Kumin describes nature as alive and noisy at night and more calm and peaceful during the day. One of
the lines that shows this is, Wide lipped, noisy as ducks, drunk on the boozy black, gloating chink

other, humans and nature have a balanced relationship where they live in harmony together. They live
in peace with no overpowering side that wants to control the other. Maxine Kumin uses the devices

and cut the head off of a goblin. He hung these both outside to let the other wargs and goblins no not
to come near. A goblin s head is stuck outside the gate and warg skin is nailed to a tree just beyond.
(Tolkien 131).This lets us see just how ruthless Beorn can get. Also with Beorn s strength, the dwarves
could feel threatened, but through the book we cannot see that. During the movie we see Beorn
serving their breakfast as more of a friend than just a resource. Beorn in Peter Jackson s eyes is
depicted as more of a level headed person with a backstory of hatred toward the Wargs and Goblins.
Peter Jackson s interpretation of Beorn is effective because he made him have more human
characteristics then

Arguments Against Young Earth Creationism
Creationism View
When one is discovering a personal worldview, it is important to learn about how that perspective
looks for the beginning of time and the end of time. As a Christian, it is especially important to
understand what stance one should take on creationism. Looking at Genesis 1 2, one can see why there
is much controversy amongst the Christian community because there are several different ways one
can interpret these chapters. For example, some people believe the world was created in six 24 hour
days and these individuals are known as Young Earth Creationists. While others know as Old Earth
Creationists, believe that the earth was created over a longer period of time. Overall, the main debate
for the point of view on creationism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On this day, God planted the seeds into the world making His garden. Someone who believes in
Young Earth Creationism would believe that God sped up the process so everything would be
completed within 24 hours. According to Genesis 1:12 it says, the land produced vegetation: plants
bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.
And God saw that it was good. (NIV). This scripture states that the land produced vegetation which
means that God did not speed up the process of making the vegetation grow faster. Instead God let the
earth do the work of growing. Going on with the argument against Young Earth Creationism would be
to look at the scriptures in Genesis 1:24 31 and Genesis 2:7 8. Here it talks about the sixth day of
creation, on this day animals were created, Adam, and God planted the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15
states that all the cattle, the birds of the sky, and every beast in the field to Adam to name. God put
Adam to sleep, took a piece from this side and formed Eve. Adam exclaimed, Now at length (NIV). At
length means now at last, indicating that it has been a long period of time that Adam had gone without
Eve. As humans we desire connections with other human beings and we desire love. For Adam to
become lonely within just a few hours would not seem plausible. If we consider a day in time through
the Old Earth Creationism perspective; a single day relates to a thousand years, then it would seem
more plausible that Adam grew lonely during this period. Also, back in the Garden of Eden there were
over ten thousand animals. For Adam to name every single one of them in only a few short hours
would not make sense. (Old Earth

What Is Rosa Parks Essay
Rosa Parks once said, Each person must live their life as a model for others. On December 1, 1955,
Rosa Parks was a model for everyone. She is an important figure in American History, she showed
everyone that she cares that the world is like this and that she would not be afraid to stand up for her
rights. One day when Rosa Parks came back home from work on the Cleveland Avenue bus, she sat on
the bus but she sat in the whites section, so Fred Blake, the bus driver, asked her and three other
people to get up and go somewhere else, everyone got up except for Mrs.Parks so she was arrested
and fined ten dollars plus four dollars in court.
Mrs. Parks was born on February 4, 1913, in Tuskegee Alabama. Rosa Parks parents are James

Everyone was furious, as a result, a boycott came into play and lasted for 381 days.
We are not going to give them our dimes to be insulted and humiliated, said Martin Luther King Jr, a
leader of the Montgomery Improvement Association. (San Antonio Register, Vol. 25, No. 45) Rosa
Parks was well known, so when Martin Luther King Jr heard that Mrs. Parks went to jail he called for
a meeting at his church, they were talking about how they wanted things to change but everyone was
scared. Everyone gave up except for Dr. King, he thought they could do a boycott, so they will refuse
to ride the busses until something will change.
The boycott has cut Negro patronage of city buses about 85 per cent and Negro leaders said it will
continue until bus of the boycott. (San Antonio Register, Vol. 25, No. 44) White people barely rode on
buses because if you re white then that means you are rich at that time, so the boycott caused the city a
lot of money because most people who ride on the buses are African Americans. African Americans
who worked for white people refused to show up for work unless they paid for their ride.
Police cars and motorcycles followed the buses periodically after an operator reported that two rifle
pellets struck the back of his coach. (San Antonio Register, Vol. 25, No. 44) African Americans, so
they caused more problems for busses. They wanted to get back at the white people for what they did
to Rosa Parks. They were just sick and tired of being called

The Internet Essay
Webster s dictionary defines the Internet as a widely used networking interface, connecting several
very large information servers (193). The Internet is a good way for companies or anyone to get
information out to the entire world. Electronic marketing (e marketing) is a very large part of the
Internet. E marketing is the process of creating, distributing, promoting, and pricing products for
targeted customers in the virtual environment of the Internet (Ferrell 597). There are many advantages
and disadvantages to e marketing.
One disadvantage to e marketing is the advancements in cookie technology. A cookie is a way for
companies to track how many times people visit their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often times there are many ads circulating at the same place. When I surf the Internet usually I am
doing it for one reason, to gather information. The last thing I am going to want is some company
sticking their add right in my face. I believe if consumers want to buy these products, they would visit
websites of companies who sold them.
A third disadvantage to e marketing is intrusive e mail. E mail is a good way to communicate long
distances for free. Like postal mail, people can receive junk mail electronically. This has always
burned me. With postal junk mail simply throwing out what is unwanted solves the problem. E mail is
different. Junk mail will continue to compile on a computer until it is deleted out. This takes up
valuable space on the hard drive and also valuable time of the recipient.
As long as there are disadvantages there must always be at least one advantage to whatever is under
review. If there weren t it wouldn t exists. One advantage to e marketing is the availability of products
to consumers. The Internet is running twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. To the consumer
the Internet is a great place to shop around. There are many places to get the same products; and being
able to shop from the comfort of your own home is a nice convenience. Firms also benefit from these
factors. They can sell products to people who normally may not be able to get to the store during

Western Treatment Of Horses
When I was in elementary school, I had very strong feelings about everything. If you said black, I said
white. If you said the sky was blue, I said it was not. Basically, if you thought you were right, I would
attempt to challenge that in any way I could, even if that meant going against all logical thinking. This
obstinance is best described in one time when I felt very strongly about horses. My family and I had
horses for many years, and so did some of our friends. However, those friends treated their horses
much differently than we did. We treated our horses with love and respect, going with the Western
style of riding. Our friends still loved their horses, you could tell, but it was less of a pet type of love
than a money making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their horses were Tennessee Walkers, and once their horse reached a certain age, that horse was
simply too old and would be retired. In my opinion, though, this was not their main issue. Tennessee
Walking horse trainers used a technique called soring on their horses hooves to acquire an exaggerated
gait, or specialized type of walking, trotting, and cantering for show performance. Along with my
sister and a few other friends, I believed that this technique was harmful to horses. After all, soring
often involves chemicals, weighted shoes, pads, boots, and chains to achieve the

The Benefits Of Assisted Living
Assisted living has become the generic name for most senior living facilities. However, today these
facilities come in many different sizes and levels of care. Early in history there were only two choices
for seniors, they could age at home with family or they could enter a nursing home. Many seniors who
couldn t completely live on their own and were still to some degree independent and able bodied did
not need higher levels of care offered at nursing facilities; creating a need for different types of senior
living. Assisted living became a more ideal lifestyle for seniors who wanted to age independently.
Facilities have now begun to tailor their offerings to specific populations creating specialties with
differing levels of care. With the U.S. population aging there is not only an increase in number of
senior facilities but also their characteristics. As a result of the baby boom during 1946 to 1964
children comprised approximately one third of the U.S. population in 1970, and only one tenth of the
population was 65 or older. Today, 40 million people in the United States are ages 65 and older, but
this number is projected to more than double to 89 million by 2050 (Jacobsen, Kent, Lee, Mather,
2011). Coupled with the number of baby boomer reaching the age 65 is the fact that people are now
living longer. In 1970 the average age was 70.8 years, in 2010 the average age was 78.3 (U.S. Census
Bureau, 2011). However it doesn t necessary mean that since the average

Avengers Stereotypes
Female Superheroes in Cartoons and Comics
It is extremely difficult to think of the modern world being without entertainment of any kind. People
have developed the cult of music, literature and visual art. One of the greatest entertainment pieces are
drawn comic books, which gave rise to an entire industry.
Although most of the comic books represent both female and male superheroes, in Marvel s Avengers,
the women are shown as sexual objects and minor characters while men are depicted as intelligent and
powerful heroes.
Since the inception of the comic book industry there have been a lot of controversies surrounding
female figures, especially, their physical appearance, gender roles and stereotypes. A strong hero,
leader and a desirable woman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in Marvel s Avengers Natasha Romanoff was abused during the interrogation with
Russian mobsters as she refused to give out the information. It is crucial to note the way she sits on a
chair which was done on purpose as it creates the whole picture of her sexuality. Such scenes have an
enormous effect on society as they generally are representing hatred, discrimination, and
objectification. Since women are referred to the weak ones even though, super heroines, they are still
quite frequently victims of abduction.
All papers claim the same things about female roles in the comic books and its displaying on the
screens. Women are usually portrayed as inferior, unbelievably attractive, seductive and passive
characters. In comparison to Natasha, other females in Avengers are somewhat softer and
romanticized. Every frame with Betty is soft in the movie. Even when she was hurt and passed out she
was lying in a beautiful pose, just like a model who is also a subject of objectification in the real
world, with minimal damage to her pretty face which serves as bright contrast to the blood covered

Comparison Of King Lear And King Lear
In the play King Lear Shakespeare puts emphasis on the ignorance of both King Lear and Gloucester
by revealing their personalities in similar ways. This allows the reader to better understand the
characters as well as give a point of reflection for both characters. Throughout the play, Shakespeare
develops King Lear and Gloucester into parallel characters by creating similarities in their relationship
with their children, their blindness, in both a literal and figurative sense and their doomed fate.
Within the first act of the play, it is shown that both Gloucester and King Lear are ignorant to their
children s true character. First, when King Lear is determining the division of his kingdom, he only
hears the surface of what Reagan and Goneril are saying. Although they claim to love him beyond
what can be valued, (1.1.57) it is becomes obvious that these are just words, rather than truths. In a
similar fashion, Gloucester is quick to believe the words of Edmund. Edmund claims to have found a
letter from his brother Edgar plotting to kill their father. Just as King Lear was manipulated by his
daughters, Gloucester falls for Edmund s trap. Gloucester banishes Edgar on the spot and now it under
Edmund s thumb. While Gloucester turns against his eldest son, King Lear turn against his youngest
daughter Cordelia. She is banished as well, similarly to Edgar, for being honest with her father. She
tells him that she only loves him according to [her] bond, (1.1.93) Both characters

  • 3. John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism Happiness in terms of logic is considered to be a vague expression, meaning it has a wide range of interpretations, as well as having no clear meaning. John Stuart Mill, an English philosopher, based his controversial sentiments of happiness on Jeremy Bentham s utilitarianism, believing that goods are the means to greatest happiness for the greatest number of peoples. Epicurus, an Ancient Greek philosopher, who similarly encouraged people to follow his pleasure based philosophy to obtain happiness. However, unlike Jeremy Bentham, the father of utilitarianism, Mill was able to clarify misinterpretations and controversies by additionally incorporating his own social, political and moral theories that seemed fit with the philosophy. Epicureanism belongs in the same hedonistic category as Mill s utilitarianism, but unlike utilitarianism, Epicurean principles are not commonly used in American government and politics. From afar, Epicureanism may seem the most practical and relatable because one may look and assume that it is simply about indulging in pleasures as long as it makes you happy. However, that is a naive interpretation, as Epicureanism promotes pleasure, but only the natural and necessary ones. Along with only following the natural and necessary pleasures, it also highlights the importance of suppressing desires that cause one to long for pleasures that aren t necessary. In Epicurus Principal Doctrines, he writes, on a basis of power sufficient to afford supports and of material prosperity arises in most genuine form the security of a private life withdrawn from the multitude (2), meaning that wealth should not be a good that contributes to happiness. In this extract of the novel, Toad believes that adventure is the only means of fulfilling and experiencing a real animalistic life; That s real life for you, embodied in that little cart . The cart is symbolic of Toad s ambitious nature, which is manifested through his jubilant tone and positive attitude in response to change and adventure. • 5. Social Pressure And Voter Turnout Essay While reading a variety of political science articles I have found the conventional wisdom on a multitude of influences and their correlation with voter turnout. Generally what I found while reading is that there is often a motivational factor that causes a person to perform their civic duty by voting . My understanding of the conventional wisdom is that when there is some source of social pressure motivations, it often leads to an increase in voter turnout. Adding to the belief that social pressures influence voter turnout, Alan Gerber, Donald Green and Christopher Larimer in Social Pressure and Voter Turnout: Evidence from a Large Scale Field Experiment, test the effects of priming intrinsic motives and applying varying degrees and extrinsic pressure. Their research attempts to show the extent by which social pressure increases voter turnout. Higher voting poll turnout was observed among those who received the letters promising to publish their turnout record to their household or their neighbor. This remarkable increase in turnout, observe the authors, exceeds the effect of live phone calls and rivals the effect of face to face contact with canvassers conducting get out the vote campaigns. They argue that social pressure is most effective in increasing voter turnout than other methods. A difference between the two texts is Adams thinks each individual cause has a specific outcome while Snickets thinks an action can have many outcomes. In The Hitchiker s Guide the reader can see there is only one cause to why everything happen he is more specific in his story. In The Penultimate Peril Snickets the reader can see the mysteries could have been solved in many ways. Snikets follow the basic rule of cause and effect which shows any effect can have multiple possible causes; the task of cause and effect is to determine the correct one. Snicket made a metaphor to that when he said, the world is like a calm pond, and that anytime a person does even the smallest thing, it is as if a stone has dropped into the pond, spreading circles of ripples further and further out, until the entire world has been changed by one tiny action. Madness can be viewed differently by different audiences, In Shakespeare s play, Hamlet, the main character is portrayed as mad by the other characters; however, a discerning eye could view him as the only truly intelligent one because he sees the truth. An argument would be that Hamlet is not insane, but rather intelligent and the only sane one. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the themes prominent in both works is: the tension between ideal and real. This theme is found commonly throughout Hamlet and helps to add the the idea that Hamlet not actually mad; but rather, the only one to see reality. Ideally to a normal eye it would be reasonable to judge Hamlet and his behavior as irrational; however, to a discerning eye, he would be judged as being sane and the only rational character, which would often cause tension between the characters. An example of this theme found in Hamlet is seen when he is talking about how his mother should have taken more time to grieve his father s death before moving on, but in reality she was able to to quickly recover and marry Hamlet s uncle. Hamlet says, Would have mourn d longer! Married with mine uncle, My father s brother, but no more like my father (I.ii.150 154). This theme can also relate back to Dickinson s poem, she writes about how when people see things on their ideal ways, it creates tension between the two groups of people. Dickinson writes, Tis the majority in this, as All, prevail... (Dickinson). This further explains the concept of the majority of a society would see the ideal views which leads to the tension throughout a society. Another universal theme found in both works is: The clash between appearance and reality. There are numerous examples of this theme found in Hamlet. One example would b, a conversation between Horatio and Bernado. Shakespeare writes, (Bernado) How now, Horatio! You tremble and look pale! Is not this something more than fantasy? What think you on t? (Horatio) Before my God, I might not this believe without the sensible and true avouch of mine own eyes (I.ii.52 59). Sarah C P Williams from the John Hopkins University in the United States, published a report for the Stanford University School of Medicine identifying that that poor infant survival rates in the United States are intrinsically linked to high rates of preterm births those that occur when a woman is between 22 and 37 weeks pregnant, rather than the full term of 37 41 weeks. When a fetus has experienced a gestation period of 37 weeks, it s organ systems are defined mature and are able to support and sustain life. When a fetus experiences a shortened period of gestation, their organ systems are underdeveloped. They do not have fully formed lungs, their nervous system and brain connection are not established and their senses are still in the process of maturing. By all accounts, the fetus is fragile and is unprepared to support and sustain life in the extra uterine environment. • 20. Taking a Look at Water Chlorination 4.0 Water Chlorination 4.1 What is water chlorination? Water chlorination is another process that is commonly used in the water treatment industry. Chlorination can be defined as the addition of chlorine or hypochlorite to a water supply for disinfection purposes. Pathogens present in drinking water can cause serious diseases upon consumption and therefore need to be treated (Safe Drinking Water Foundation, 2009). Chlorination is one of the various methods that is used to deactivate these pathogens and can be found in operation at many municipal works across the country, including Killylane water treatment works. It is often found as one of the final stages in a multiple stage treatment process, usually following a filtration process. Pathogens come in a variety of forms, such as viruses, bacteria or protozoa, and can have devastating, even fatal consequences if not treated in a water supply. Before the mainstream introduction of disinfection into the water treatment process, waterborne pathogens regularly caused epidemics, and diseases like typhoid, cholera and dysentery were rife (Scientific American, 1998). As has been mentioned in the previous chapter, the rapid gravity filtration process is relatively ineffective at removing these pathogens from the water and therefore disinfection is required as a follow up treatment. Adding chlorine to water can inhibit a large range of microbial waterborne pathogens, either killing them or decreasing their activity to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the movie we see Beorn serving their breakfast as more of a friend than just a resource. Beorn in Peter Jackson s eyes is depicted as more of a level headed person with a backstory of hatred toward the Wargs and Goblins. • 40. Arguments Against Young Earth Creationism Creationism View When one is discovering a personal worldview, it is important to learn about how that perspective looks for the beginning of time and the end of time. As a Christian, it is especially important to understand what stance one should take on creationism. Looking at Genesis 1 2, one can see why there is much controversy amongst the Christian community because there are several different ways one can interpret these chapters. For example, some people believe the world was created in six 24 hour days and these individuals are known as Young Earth Creationists. While others know as Old Earth Creationists, believe that the earth was created over a longer period of time. Overall, the main debate for the point of view on creationism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On this day, God planted the seeds into the world making His garden. Someone who believes in Young Earth Creationism would believe that God sped up the process so everything would be completed within 24 hours. According to Genesis 1:12 it says, the land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. (NIV). This scripture states that the land produced vegetation which means that God did not speed up the process of making the vegetation grow faster. Instead God let the earth do the work of growing. Going on with the argument against Young Earth Creationism would be to look at the scriptures in Genesis 1:24 31 and Genesis 2:7 8. Here it talks about the sixth day of creation, on this day animals were created, Adam, and God planted the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15 states that all the cattle, the birds of the sky, and every beast in the field to Adam to name. God put Adam to sleep, took a piece from this side and formed Eve. Adam exclaimed, Now at length (NIV). At length means now at last, indicating that it has been a long period of time that Adam had gone without Eve. As humans we desire connections with other human beings and we desire love. For Adam to become lonely within just a few hours would not seem plausible. If we consider a day in time through the Old Earth Creationism perspective; a single day relates to a thousand years, then it would seem more plausible that Adam grew lonely during this period. Also, back in the Garden of Eden there were over ten thousand animals. For Adam to name every single one of them in only a few short hours would not make sense. (Old Earth ... E marketing is the process of creating, distributing, promoting, and pricing products for targeted customers in the virtual environment of the Internet (Ferrell 597). E mail is a good way to communicate long distances for free. Like postal mail, people can receive junk mail electronically. This has always burned me. With postal junk mail simply throwing out what is unwanted solves the problem. E mail is different. Junk mail will continue to compile on a computer until it is deleted out. • 43. Western Treatment Of Horses When I was in elementary school, I had very strong feelings about everything. If you said black, I said white. If you said the sky was blue, I said it was not. Basically, if you thought you were right, I would attempt to challenge that in any way I could, even if that meant going against all logical thinking. This obstinance is best described in one time when I felt very strongly about horses. My family and I had horses for many years, and so did some of our friends. However, those friends treated their horses much differently than we did. We treated our horses with love and respect, going with the Western style of riding. • 44. The Benefits Of Assisted Living Assisted living has become the generic name for most senior living facilities. However, today these facilities come in many different sizes and levels of care. Early in history there were only two choices for seniors, they could age at home with family or they could enter a nursing home. Many seniors who couldn t completely live on their own and were still to some degree independent and able bodied did not need higher levels of care offered at nursing facilities; creating a need for different types of senior living. Assisted living became a more ideal lifestyle for seniors who wanted to age independently. Facilities have now begun to tailor their offerings to specific populations creating specialties with differing levels of care. With the U.S. population aging there is not only an increase in number of senior facilities but also their characteristics. As a result of the baby boom during 1946 to 1964 children comprised approximately one third of the U.S. population in 1970, and only one tenth of the population was 65 or older. Today, 40 million people in the United States are ages 65 and older, but this number is projected to more than double to 89 million by 2050 (Jacobsen, Kent, Lee, Mather, 2011). Coupled with the number of baby boomer reaching the age 65 is the fact that people are now living longer. In 1970 the average age was 70.8 years, in 2010 the average age was 78.3 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2011). However it doesn t necessary mean that since the average ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Comparison Of King Lear And King Lear In the play King Lear Shakespeare puts emphasis on the ignorance of both King Lear and Gloucester by revealing their personalities in similar ways. This allows the reader to better understand the characters as well as give a point of reflection for both characters. Throughout the play, Shakespeare develops King Lear and Gloucester into parallel characters by creating similarities in their relationship with their children, their blindness, in both a literal and figurative sense and their doomed fate. Within the first act of the play, it is shown that both Gloucester and King Lear are ignorant to their children s true character. First, when King Lear is determining the division of his kingdom, he only hears the surface of what Reagan and Goneril are saying. Although they claim to love him beyond what can be valued, (1.1.57) it is becomes obvious that these are just words, rather than truths. In a similar fashion, Gloucester is quick to believe the words of Edmund. Edmund claims to have found a letter from his brother Edgar plotting to kill their father. Just as King Lear was manipulated by his daughters, Gloucester falls for Edmund s trap. Gloucester banishes Edgar on the spot and now it under Edmund s thumb.
