This document discusses the characteristics of Iodamoeba bütschlii, a common intestinal amoeba. When stained, I. bütschlii trophozoites are diagnostic as they have a nucleus with a large central karyosome and little peripheral chromatin. Stained cysts are also diagnostic, showing 4 nuclei with large karyosomes and no peripheral chromatin. I. bütschlii is commonly found at similar frequencies to Entamoeba coli and generally colonizes the colon.
