  • 2.  Tutoring word come from the word ‘tutor’ means the substitute of teacher.  A thesaure lists as synonyms of “tutor” …. Coach, educator, guide, mentor, instructor.
  • 3. What is Online Tutoring?  “the act of managing learners and learning through an online medium” (AFLN)  “managing the communication of others online” .  “move from ‘sage on the stage’, to ‘guide on the side’.
  • 4. Online Math Tutoring Now you can get the tutoring help you need from anywhere you have access to a computer.
  • 5.  Online communication skills (not just software)  use of time online  support & counselling  creativity & flexibility  ability to work cross culturally & with diversity  online assessment of achievement  resource guidance & monitoring
  • 6.  TEACHRE a. Out-of class conference b. E-mail conference c. Phone conference d. Non –Teachers (at least, not that student’s teachers) a. Private, paid tutors b. Peer tutors c. college-hired f-2-f tutors d. Online (distance) tutors
  • 7. 1) Small group- this can be done in chat rooms. 2) Large group- this is also done in chat rooms or through message boards. 3) Individuals- this is the most common form & con be synchronous & asynchronous.

  • 9. ONLINE TUTORING ENTAILS • Non visual feedback • Communication delay • Mastery of technological tools • Moral work in written communication (typing takes longer than talking) • Often incomplete information about assignments
  • 10.  For the students, both f-2-f & online tutoring • Require engagement, initiative, assertiveness, & self-direction • Demand commitment to growth, & that commitment involves time end energy  In f-2-f & online environments, tutors must • Address individual learning needs • Help student minimize learning gaps. • Address academic anxiety & fears.
  • 11.  Undermines the teachers role.  Second-guess the teacher’s judgment  Take sides in a debate about grades.  Do a student’s work. Tutor’s -:  Lead students to answer, not give them answer.  Find something praiseworthy in any work students do.  Be honest yet optimistic with students.  Tut the student’s, not a subject.
  • 12. Student role-: Students must always understand.  What tutors can &can’t do especially that tutors will not do their work for them.  The time constraints for the toutring availability.  How to prepare for the tutoring session  That tutoring is not a substitute for studying.
  • 13.  Communication  Establishing boundries  Unreasonable students expectation.  Scheduling & time management
