This document summarizes a research paper on using elliptic curve cryptography for message authentication. It begins with an introduction to elliptic curve cryptography and how it can provide equivalent security to other public key encryption methods but with smaller key sizes. It then describes the proposed methodology which includes generating an ECC key pair, encrypting a message with the public key, transmitting the encrypted message, and decrypting it with the private key. The results show a message being encrypted and decrypted correctly using this ECC process. It concludes that ECC can provide an efficient method for authentication in systems like vehicular networks due to its lower computation and communication overhead compared to other encryption methods.
A New Security Level for Elliptic Curve Cryptosystem Using Cellular Automata ...Editor IJCATR
Elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) is an effective approach to protect privacy and security of information. Encryption
provides only one level of security during transmission over the channel. Hence there is a need for a stronger encryption which is very
hard to break. So, to achieve better results and improve security, information has to pass through several levels of encryption. The aim
of this paper would be to provide two levels of security. First level comprises of plaintext using as security key compressed block to
encrypt text based ECC technique and the second level comprises of scrambling method with compression using 2D Cellular rules. In
particular, we propose an efficient encryption algorithm based ECC using Cellular automata and it is termed as Elliptic Curve
Cryptosystem based Cellular Automata (ECCCA). This paper presents the implementation of ECCCA for communication over
insecure channel. The results are provided to show the encryption performance of the proposed method.

Wireless Network Security Architecture with Blowfish Encryption ModelIOSR Journals
Abstract: In this research paper ,we developed a model for a large network, wireless nodes are interconnected and each can be considered as a node processor that offer services to other node processors connected to a specific network. A very high proportion of the nodes that offer services need to carry out an authentication process so as to make an access request to the node offering the service. A new hybrid text encryption approach over mobile ad hoc network IJECEIAES
Data exchange has been rapidly increased recently by increasing the use of mobile networks. Sharing information (text, image, audio and video) over unsecured mobile network channels is liable for attacking and stealing. Encryption techniques are the most suitable methods to protect information from hackers. Hill cipher algorithm is one of symmetric techniques, it has a simple structure and fast computations, but weak security because sender and receiver need to use and share the same private key within a non-secure channel. Therefore, a novel hybrid encryption approach between elliptic curve cryptosystem and hill cipher (ECCHC) is proposed in this paper to convert Hill Cipher from symmetric technique (private key) to asymmetric one (public key) and increase its security and efficiency and resist the hackers. Thus, no need to share the secret key between sender and receiver and both can generate it from the private and public keys. Therefore, the proposed approach presents a new contribution by its ability to encrypt every character in the 128 ASCII table by using its ASCII value direct without needing to assign a numerical value for each character. The main advantages of the proposed method are represented in the computation simplicity, security efficiency and faster computation.
ENHANCED SECURE ALGORITHM FOR MESSAGE COMMUNICATIONIJNSA Journal
This paper puts forward a safe mechanism of data transmission to tackle the security problem of information which is transmitted in Internet. The encryption standards such as DES (Data Encryption Standard), AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) and EES (Escrowed Encryption Standard) are widely used to solve the problem of communication over an insecure channel. With advanced technologies in computer hardware and software, these standards seem not to be as secure and fast as one would like. In
this paper we propose a encryption technique which provides security to both the message and the secret key achieving confidentiality and authentication. The Symmetric algorithm used has two advantages over traditional schemes. First, the encryption and decryption procedures are much simpler, and consequently, much faster. Second, the security level is higher due to the inherent poly-alphabetic nature of the substitution mapping method used here, together with the translation and transposition operations performed in the algorithm. Asymmetric algorithm RSA is worldwide known for its high security. In this paper a detailed report of the process is presented and analysis is done comparing our proposed technique with familiar techniques

Image Encryption Using Advanced Hill Cipher AlgorithmIDES Editor
The Hill cipher algorithm is one of the symmetric
key algorithms that have several advantages in data
encryption. But, the inverse of the key matrix used for
encrypting the plaintext does not always exist. Then if the
key matrix is not invertible, then encrypted text cannot be
decrypted. In the Involutory matrix generation method the
key matrix used for the encryption is itself invertible. So, at
the time of decryption we need not to find the inverse of the
key matrix. The objective of this paper is to encrypt an
image using a technique different from the conventional Hill
Cipher. In this paper a novel advanced Hill (AdvHill)
encryption technique has been proposed which uses an
involutory key matrix. The scheme is a fast encryption
scheme which overcomes problems of encrypting the images
with homogeneous background. A comparative study of the
proposed encryption scheme and the existing scheme is
made. The output encrypted images reveal that the
proposed technique is quite reliable and robust.

Cryptography is a process used for sending information in secret way. Goal of this process is to provide protection for information but in different way. In this paper our motive to represent a new method for protection that is generated by combination of RSA and 2 bit rotation mechanism of cryptography. There are many algorithms exist for this process. For cryptography there are algorithms like RSA, IDEA, AES, and DES but here we are using only one algorithm from these that is RSA which is enough to implement combined process using 2 bit rotation. The encrypted image is used as input for network for further implementation.RSA encrypt image with 1 bit rotation. In 1 bit rotation only 1 bit is shifted and at decrypt side shifted bit are reversed. But to make it more secure we are going to perform 2 bit rotation due to which it is more secure as compared to existing algorithm. After applying the 2 bit rotation we perform the permutation of that image that will give us encrypted image. Multiple Encryption using ECC and Its Time Complexity AnalysisIJCERT
Rapid growth of information technology in present era, secure communication, strong data encryption technique and trusted third party are considered to be major topics of study. Robust encryption algorithm development to secure sensitive data is of great significance among researchers at present. The conventional methods of encryption used as of today may not sufficient and therefore new ideas for the purpose are to be design, analyze and need to be fit into the existing system of security to provide protection of our data from unauthorized access. An effective encryption/ decryption algorithm design to enhance data security is a challenging task while computation, complexity, robustness etc. are concerned. The multiple encryption technique is a process of applying encryption over a single encryption process in a number of iteration. Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) is well known and well accepted cryptographic algorithm and used in many application as of today. In this paper, we discuss multiple encryptions and analyze the computation overhead in the process and study the feasibility of practical application. In the process we use ECC as a multiple-ECC algorithm and try to analyze degree of security, encryption/decryption computation time and complexity of the algorithm. Performance measure of the algorithm is evaluated by analyzing encryption time as well as decryption time in single ECC as well as multiple-ECC are compared with the help of various examples.
In this paper a novel intelligent soft computing based cryptographic technique based on synchronization of
two chaotic systems (CSCT) between sender and receiver has been proposed to generate session key using
Pecora and Caroll (PC) method. Chaotic system has some unique features like sensitive to initial
conditions, topologically mixing; and dense periodic orbits. By nature, the Lorenz system is very sensitive
to initial conditions meaning that the error between attacker and receiver is going to grow exponentially if
there is a very slight difference between their initial conditions. All these features make chaotic system as
good alternatives for session key generation. In the proposed CSCT few parameters ( , b , r , x1 ,y2 and z2 )
are being exchanged between sender and receiver. Some of the parameter which takes major roles to form
the session key does not get transmitted via public channel, sender keeps these parameters secret. This way
of handling parameter passing mechanism prevents any kind of attacks during exchange of parameters like
sniffing, spoofing or phishing.

PI and fuzzy logic controllers for shunt active power filterISA Interchange
This paper presents a shunt Active Power Filter (APF) for power quality improvements in terms of harmonics and reactive power compensation in the distribution network. The compensation process is based only on source current extraction that reduces the number of sensors as well as its complexity. A Proportional Integral (PI) or Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is used to extract the required reference current from the distorted line-current, and this controls the DC-side capacitor voltage of the inverter. The shunt APF is implemented with PWM-current controlled Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) and the switching patterns are generated through a novel Adaptive-Fuzzy Hysteresis Current Controller (A-F-HCC). The proposed adaptive-fuzzy-HCC is compared with fixed-HCC and adaptive-HCC techniques and the superior features of this novel approach are established. The FLC based shunt APF system is validated through extensive simulation for diode-rectifier/R–L loads.
Applying soft computing techniques to corporate mobile security systemsPaloma De Las Cuevas
Corporate workers increasingly use their own devices for work purposes, in a trend that has come to be called the "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) philosophy and companies are starting to include it in their policies. For this reason, corporate security systems need to be redefined and adapted, by the corporate Information Technology (IT) department, to these emerging behaviours. This work proposes applying soft-computing techniques, in order to help the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of a company (in charge of the IT department) to improve the
security policies.
The actions performed be company workers under a BYOD situation will be treated as events: an action or set of actions yielding to a response. Some of those events might cause a non compliance with some corporate policies, and then it would be necessary to define a set of security rules (action, consequence). Furthermore, the processing of the extracted knowledge will allow the rules to be adapted.

The designed three phase SAPF based on instantaneous p-q theory was simulated in MATLAB /SIMULINK by using different load conditions i.e. R-L load, suddenly connected R-L load, and additional unbalance R load. Its application was successfully proved and the validity achieved by minimizing the harmonics and improving PF as summarized in Table 2. Consequently, the supply current is almost pure sinusoidal. THD observed was fund to be within the prescribed limits of 5% as recommended by IEEE-519 standard.

IMPLEMENT A NOVEL SYMMETRIC BLOCK CIPHER ALGORITHMijcisjournal
Cryptography technology is a security technique used to change plain text to another shape of data or to symbols, which is known as the cipher text. Cryptography aims to keep the data secure during its journey through public networks. Currently, there are many proposed algorithms that provide this service especially for sensitive data or very important conversations either through mobile or video conferences. In this paper, an inventive security symmetric algorithm is implemented and evaluated, and its performance is compared to the AES. The algorithm has four different rounds for each quarter of the key container table, and each of them serves to shift the table. The algorithm uses the XOR operation, which, being lightweight and cheap, is very appropriate for use with Real Time Applications. The result shows that the suggested algorithm spends less time than AES although it has 16 rounds and the numbers used to mix up the table are big.

Hybrid Cryptography security in public cloud using TwoFish and ECC algorithmIJECEIAES
Cloud computing is a structure for rendering service to the user for free or paid basis through internet facility where we can access to a bulk of shared resources which results in saving managing cost and time for large companies, The data which are stored in the data center may incur various security, damage and threat issues which may result in data leakage, insecure interface and inside attacks. This paper will demonstrate the implementation of hybrid cryptography security in public cloud by a combination of Elliptical Curve Cryptography and Twofish algorithm, which provides an innovative solution to enhance the security features of the cloud so that we can improve the service thus results in increasing the trust over the technology.
Smart Card technology is the emerging technology which is developing among
common masses in our culture and widely used in the sectors of banking and industries.
Many research works are undergoing in this area to provide highly confidential data
transmission. Existing Scheme provides a security against offline attack for the lost Smart
Card using Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) but it requires more communication and
computation overhead with higher key length. To overcome this limitation, DNA based
Password authentication using Hyper Elliptic Curve Cryptography (HECC) scheme is
proposed. It provides more security than existing system which allows server and smartcard
to exchange the generated password and verify each other. This system exploits the

Different date block size using to evaluate the performance between different...IJCNCJournal
The different computer networks whether wired or wireless are becoming more popular with its high
security aspect. Different security algorithms and technique are using to avoid any aforementioned attacks.
One of these technique is a cryptography technique that makes the data as unreadable during the transfer
hence; there is no chance to reclaim the information. Presently, most of the users are using various media
types and internet to transfer the data but, it has the chance to retrieve the data by using these media types.
The perfect solution for this problem is to provide security on time-to-time basis; this stage is always
significant to the security related community discussions. This paper explains the comparison between the
run time of three different encryption algorithms which are DES, AES and Blowfish The compression
includes using different modes, data block size and different operation modes. As a result, Blowfish

It comprises both user authentication and encryption processes. First, a two-factor authentication scheme one-time password is proposed. It overcomes the weaknesses in the existing authentication schemes. The proposed authentication method does not require specific extra hardware or additional processing time to identity the user. Second, the plaintext is divided into two parts which are encrypted separately using a unique key for each. This division increases the security of the proposed scheme and in addition decreases the encryption time. The keys are generated using logistic chaos model theory. Chaos equation generates different values of keys which are very sensitive to initial condition and control parameter values entered by the user. This scheme achieves high-security level by introducing different security processes with different stages. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme reduces the size of the ciphertext and both encryption and decryption times than competing schemes without adding any complexity.
Improved Image Encryption for Real-Time Application over Wireless Communicati...ijeei-iaes
Advances in communication networks have enabled organization to send confidential data such as digital images over wireless networks. However, the broadcast nature of wireless communication channel has made it vulnerable to attack from eavesdroppers. We have developed a hybrid cryptography technique, and we present its application to digital images as a means of improving the security of digital image for transmission over wireless communication networks. The hybrid technique uses a combination of a symmetric (Data Encryption Standard) and asymmetric (Rivest Shamir Adleman) cryptographic algorithms to secure data to be transmitted between different nodes of a wireless network. Three different image samples of type jpeg, png and jpg were tested using this technique. The results obtained showed that the hybrid system encrypt the images with minimal simulation time, and high throughput. More importantly, there is no relation or information between the original images and their encrypted form, according to Shannon’s definition of perfect security, thereby making the system much more secure.

Node Failure Prevention by Using Energy Efficient Routing In Wireless Sensor ...IJTET Journal
The most necessary issue that has to be solved in coming up with an information transmission rule for
wireless unplanned networks is a way to save unplanned node energy whereas meeting the wants of applications
users because the unplanned nodes are battery restricted. Whereas satisfying the energy saving demand, it’s
conjointly necessary to realize the standard of service. Just in case of emergency work, it's necessary to deliver the
information on time. Achieving quality of service in is additionally necessary. So as to realize this demand, Power -
efficient Energy-Aware routing protocol for wireless unplanned networks is planned that saves the energy by
expeditiously choosing the energy economical path within the routing method. When supply finds route to
destination, it calculates α for every route. The worth α is predicated on largest minimum residual energy of the trail
and hop count of the trail. If a route has higher α, then that path is chosen for routing the information. The worth of α
are higher, if the most important of minimum residual energy of the trail is higher and also the range of hop count is
lower. Once the trail is chosen, knowledge is transferred on the trail. So as to extend the energy potency any
transmission power of the nodes is additionally adjusted supported the situation of their neighbour. If the neighbours
of a node are closely placed thereto node, then transmission vary of the node is diminished. Thus it's enough for the
node to own the transmission power to achieve the neighbour at intervals that vary. As a result transmission power
of the node is cut back that later on reduces the energy consumption of the node. Our planned work is simulated
through Network machine (NS-2). Existing AODV and Man-Min energy routing protocol conjointly simulated
through NS-2 for performance comparison. Packet Delivery quantitative relation, Energy Consumption and end-toend
delay.
Prevention of Malicious Nodes and Attacks in Manets Using Trust worthy MethodIJTET Journal
In Manet the first demand is co-operative communication among nodes. The malicious nodes might cause security issues like grey hole and cooperative attacks. To resolve these attack issue planning Dynamic supply routing mechanism, that is referred as cooperative bait detection theme (CBDS) that integrate the advantage of each proactive and reactive defence design is used. In region attacks, a node transmits a malicious broadcast informing that it's the shortest path to the destination, with the goal of intercepting messages. During this case, a malicious node (so-called region node) will attract all packets by victimisation solid Route Reply (RREP) packet to incorrectly claim that “fake” shortest route to the destination then discard these packets while not forwarding them to the destination. In grey hole attacks, the malicious node isn't abs initio recognized in and of itself since it turns malicious solely at a later time, preventing a trust-based security resolution from detective work its presence within the network. It then by selection discards/forwards the info packets once packets undergo it. During this we have a tendency to focus is on detective work grey hole/collaborative region attacks employing a dynamic supply routing (DSR)-based routing technique.

ECG Steganography and Hash Function Based Privacy Protection of Patients Medi...IJTET Journal
Data hiding can hide sensitive information into signals for covert communication. Most data hiding
techniques will distort the signal in order to insert additional messages. The distortion is often small; the irreversibility is
not admissible to some sensitive techniques. Most of the applications, lossless data hiding is desired to extract the
embedded data and the original host signal. The project proposes the enhancement of protection system for secret data
communication through encrypted data concealment in ECG signals of the patient. The proposed encryption technique
used to encrypt the confidential data into unreadable form and not only enhances the safety of secret carrier information by
making the information inaccessible to any intruder having a random method. For that we use twelve square ciphering
techniques. The technique is used make the communication between the sender and the receiver to be authenticated is hash

An Efficient Decoding Algorithm for Concatenated Turbo-Crc CodesIJTET Journal
In this paper, a hybrid turbo decoding algorithm is used, in which the outer code, Cyclic Redundancy Check code is
not used for detection of errors as usual but for error correction and improvement. This algorithm effectively combines the iterative
decoding algorithm with Rate-Compatible Insertion Convolution Turbo Decoding, where the CRC code and the turbo code are
regarded as an integrated whole in the Decoding process. Altogether we propose an effective error detecting method based on
normalized Euclidean distance to compensate for the loss of error detection capability which should have been provided by CRC
code. Simulation results show that with the proposed approach, 0.5-2dB performance gain can be achieved for the code blocks
with short information length
Improved Trans-Z-source Inverter for Automobile ApplicationIJTET Journal
In this paper a new technology is proposed with a replacement of conventional voltage source/current
source inverter with Improved Trans-Z-source inverter in automobile applications. The improved Trans-Z-source
inverter has a high boost inversion capability and continues input current. Also this new inverter can suppress the
resonant current at the startup; this resonant current in the startup may lead the device to permanent damage. In
improved Trans-Z-source inverter a couple inductor is needed, instead of this coupled inductor a transformer is used.
By using a transformer with sufficient turns ratio the size can be reduced. The turn’s ratio of the transformer decides
the input voltage of the inverter. In this paper operating principle, comparison with conventional inverters, working
with automobiles simulation results, THD analysis, Hardware implementation using ATMEGA 328 P are included.

This proposed method has greater efficiency and lower cost.
Comprehensive Path Quality Measurement in Wireless Sensor NetworksIJTET Journal
A wireless sensor network mostly relies on multi-hop transmissions to deliver a data packet. It is of essential importance to measure the quality of multi-hop paths and such information shall be utilized in designing efficient routing strategies. Existing metrics like ETF, ETX mainly focus on quantifying the link performance in between the nodes while overlooking the forwarding capabilities inside the sensor nodes. By combining the QoF measurements within a node and over a link, we are able to comprehensively measure the intact path quality in designing efficient multihop routing protocols. We propose QoF, Quality of Forwarding, a new metric which explores the performance in the gray zone inside a node left unattended in previous studies. We implement QoF and build a modified Collection Tree Protocol.
Optimizing Data Confidentiality using Integrated Multi Query ServicesIJTET Journal
Query services have experienced terribly massive growth within past few years for that reason large usage of services need to balance outsourcing data management to Cloud service providers that provide query services to the client for data owners, therefore data owner needs data confidentiality as well as query privacy to be guaranteed attributable to disloyal behavior of cloud service provider consequently enhancing data confidentiality must not be compromise the query processed performance. It is not significant to provide slow query services as the result of security along with privacy assurance. We propose the random space perturbation data perturbation method to provide secure with kNN(k-nearest-neighbor) range query services for protecting data in the cloud and Frequency Structured R-Tree (FSR-Tree) efficient range query. Our schemes enhance data confidentiality without compromising the FSR-TREE query processing performance that also increases the user experience.

Experimental Investigation of Lateral Pressure on Vertical Formwork Systems u...IJTET Journal
The modeling of pressure distribution of fresh concrete poured in vertical formwork are rather dynamic than complex. Many researchers had worked on the pressure distribution modeling of concrete and formulated empirical relationship factors like formwork height, rate of pour, consistency classes of concrete. However, in the current scenario, most of high rise construction uses self compacting concrete(SCC) which is a special concrete which utilizes not only mineral and chemical admixtures but also varied aggregate proportions and hence modeling pressure distribution of SCC over other concrete in vertical formwork systems is necessitated. This research seeks to bridge the gap between the theoretical formulation of pressure distribution with the actual modeled (scaled) vertical formwork systems. The pressure distribution of SCC in the laboratory will be determined using pressure sensors, modeled and analyzed.

A Comprehensive Approach for Multi Biometric Recognition Using Sclera Vein an...IJTET Journal
Sclera and finger print vein fusion is a new biometric approach for uniquely identifying humans. First, Sclera vein is identified and refined using image enhancement techniques. Then Y shape feature extraction algorithm is used to obtain Y shape pattern which are then fused with finger vein pattern. Second, Finger vein pattern is obtained using CCD camera by passing infrared light through the finger. The obtained image is then enhanced. A line shape feature extraction algorithm is used to get line patterns from enhanced finger vein image. Finally Sclera vein image pattern and Finger vein image pattern were combined to get the final fused image. The image thus obtained can be used to uniquely identify a person. The proposed multimodal system will produce accurate results as it combines two main traits of an individual. Therefore, it can be used in human identification and authentication systems.
Study of Eccentrically Braced Outrigger Frame under Seismic ExitationIJTET Journal
Outrigger braced structures has efficient structural form consist of a central core, comprising braced frames with
horizontal cantilever ”outrigger” trusses or girders connecting the core to the outer column. When the structure is loaded
horizontally, vertical plane rotation of the core is restrained by the outriggers through tension in windward column and
compression in leeward column. The effective structural depth of the building is greatly increased, thus augmenting the lateral
stiffness of the building and reducing the lateral deflections and moments in core. In effect, the outriggers join the columns to the
core to make the structure behave as a partly composite cantilever. By providing eccentrically braced system in outrigger frame by
varying the size of links and analyzing it. Push over analysis is carried out by varying the link size using computer programs, Sap
2007 to understand their seismic performance. The ductile behavior of eccentrically braced frame is highly desirable for structures
subjected to strong ground motion. Maximum stiffness, strength, ductility and energy dissipation capacity are provided by
eccentrically braced frame. Studies were conducted on the use of outrigger frame for the high steel building subjected to
earthquake load. Braces are designed not to buckle, regardless of the severity of lateral loading on the frame. Thus eccentrically
braced frame ensures safety against collapse.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
