This document discusses a study on the determinants of university choice for different academic disciplines in tertiary education in Sri Lanka. It aims to identify factors that influence students' selection of degree programs and universities in order to develop a better mechanism for university selection. The study uses frameworks related to student selection factors, marketing in higher education, and complex decision making. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected through surveys of 139 students. The results found that employability was a major factor in program selection, and payment flexibility influenced choices of healthcare-related programs. Female students were more likely to choose healthcare programs but had higher unemployment. Overall, the study concludes Sri Lanka needs to reform its higher education system to better match students' qualifications, skills and interests
