Foxconn In China Case Study
China s success in consumer electronic manufacturing can be traced to the creation of special
economic zones in the early 1980s, intended to increase foreign capital and boost exports as the
means to integrate regional and global economies (Chan and Seldon 2013, 103). This capitalism
was a sharp departure from the previous Communist based economic policies that dominated the
country for decades (Ya and O Donnell 2017). The Shenzhen Special Economic Zone(one of four)
was established in May 1980 adjacent to the border with Hong Kong, which was experiencing its
own economic boom (Ngai and Chan 2012, Ya and O Donnell 2017). Manufacturing in the
Shenzhen Economic Zone grew exponentially after the Chinese government began offering... Show

Grain dependent Henan Providence, which has the largest population of any providence, is
largely excluded from the financial support provided to coastal areas of the country with large
ports (French 2008). The Zhengzhou factory, however, is an outlier: a global symbol of foreign
capitalism and economic prosperity in a region of China otherwise extremely poor (Barboza 2016).
Zhengzhou is inseparably linked with the Chinese government; the Foxconn factory there provides
a case study of exclusive economic incentives provided by the government to the company. Based
on documents obtained by the New York Times, these benefits are unlike anything else in the
world. For instance, the Zhengzhou government spent $1 billion dollars on housing for iPhone
City s six million people, most of them Foxconn workers. The $600 million factory itself was
largely financed by the government, and taxes were eliminated for Foxconn for five years. To
facilitate rapid exportation of electronics, customs is located directly outside the factory s perimeter.
An airport is nearby, in which the Zhengzhou government will be pumping $10 billion into. To staff
this 2.2 mile factory site, the government assists in recruiting workers and providing formal
training. Ultimately, state recruited workers in state subsidized housing not only benefits

Moll Flanders And The Preface
The justifications made by the narrator of Moll Flanders and the anonymous author of the Preface
are not convincing because their claims are deceitful and appear to act in each individuals own self
interests. The narrator influences the story through unbelievable, and sometimes excessive,
explanations which control the readers thoughts about Moll Flanders choices and actions. Similarly,
the author of the Preface directs the attention onto the readers judgements to defend the novel. Both
the narrator and the author of the Preface abuse their power as storytellers in attempts to control
the judgements of the readers and rationalize telling a story full of crime and wickedness. The
author of the Preface recognizes that the readers will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The beginning of the novel does not agree with the justifications made by the author of the
Preface. The readers soon discover that the story s narrator is unreliable, which makes it
difficult to for the reader to have something of instruction from the story because the narrator
may be lying to obscure the truth (author of Preface 5). The narrator, who goes by the name of
Moll Flanders , does not expose herself (Defoe 7). When the novel begins she exclaims that My
True Name is so well known in the Records, or Registers at Newgate, and in the Old Baily....that it
is not expected I should set my Name (Defoe 7). The narrator conceals her true name to the readers
because she recognizes that the proclamation of her name may result in an imprisonment for prior
felonies. It is at this blurred point of view of the narrator that readers start to doubt if the events in
the novel are true because they don t receive a genuine guide through the story. Instead, they are left
with a nameless raconteur that conveys a personal account without disclosing her true self. The
author of the Preface and the narrator exploit their power which, therefore, makes their justifications
unconvincing. Moll Flanders often provides a passionate rationalization for her bad behavior which
impacts the readers emotions and causes them to feel remorse for her. Many times throughout the

The Prison Experiment And The Abu Ghraib Prison
Kohlberg s morality theory defines various levels and stages where a person s morality can be
tested on a scale. Reviewing the Stanford prison experiment and the Abu Ghraib prison was
interesting. The guards in the Stanford prison experiment reacted differently than each other and
showed different levels of morality. In the Abu Ghraib prison, the guards were put in a real life
situation where the morals were tested. It was fascinating to see how the two different scenarios
had similar behaviors.
The guards had different morality levels that varied by how the prisoners acted towards the
guards. At the start of the experiment, no guards were given orders on how to maintain the jail
and prisoners. Going into the experiment many guards had the incentive of Level 2 Stage 4,
because they wanted to have rules to promote order within the prison. For an example of this,
guards had lineups for the prisoners to familiarize their new number identities. When the prisoners
did not follow these rules, the guards shifted levels. At first it started at Level 1 Stage 1, because
the prisoners only broke minor rules, like talking back to the guards or not taking the lineups
seriously. Therefore, guards served minor punishment such as making the prisoners do pushups.
Rules were broken more severely which led to more severe punishment. The guards had to punish
the prisoners, because on the second day they staged a rebellion in which they locked themselves in
their cells. The level of

Activity-Based Costing ( ABC ) Essay
Activity Based Costing ACTIVITY BASED COSTING AND MANAGEMENT : AN OVERVIEW
Activity Based Costing (ABC) is more relevant than traditional costing in companies, where
product mix is diverse in; batch sizes, physical sizes, degree or complexity, and raw material
characteristics. ABC will also provide more decision useful information for the service industry,
characterized by diversity in range of services provided. If the products in a plant or services
provided posses similar characteristics, wither volume based or an activity based cost driver will
provide reasonably accurate costs. The strategic goal of ABC is to provide decision useful cost and
profitability information for optimal pricing decisions, appropriate product mix, and ... Show more

The level at which activities are analysed can vary widely from the very aggregate to the very
detailed. The level of detail should be matched to the level of analysis required to improve the
decision making within the organisation. Even within a single organisation, the level of detail can
very from one part of the analysis to another, excessive detail will bog down the project and not
provide any material benefit to the analysis. Too little detail will obscure the meaningful results that
could be achieved.
The usefulness of an ABC analysis can be further enhanced by including a value analysis of every
activity.
When constructing an ABC model, activity costs can be either traced directly to a cost objects.
Examples of enabling activities include paying employees and supporting PC users . We can then
generate reports for these activities in various formats that show both the direct resources as well as
those supports activities that form part of the total cost. Reports generally list the activities from
highest cost to lowest cost. Management can then evaluate these activity costs in terms of whether
they are too high, too low, or in the expected range. This is again a focusing mechanism for
management in evaluating it

Sports play an integral part in todays society in not only keeping people healthy and in shape but
also make for fun activity and competition. While everyone tends to focus on exercise and
enjoyment, they forget the importance of having a quality facility in order to practice their specific

nowadays, especially on the professional level. Advancements are being made on a daily basis to

Israel Conflict Research Paper
The primary parties involved in the Israeli Palestinian conflict are the Israelis and the Palestinians
but almost all Arab countries have contributed to the problem, as well.
The region as the heart of the conflict is the area formally known as Palestine. It now is Israel,
Gaza, and the West Bank.
Jewish Israelis claim ownership of the land because they need a place that is safe from all the
hostility from Arabs towards Jewish people. They also believe that they were promised this land
by God. The Palestinians (Arabs) say it belongs to them because their ancestors have lived there for
hundreds of years.

To What Extent Does the Impact of World War I Explain the...
To what extent does the impact of World War I explain the outbreak of the two revolutions in 1917 ?
To a certain extent, the First World War was a major contributing factor to the two revolutions that
took place in 1917, the February and October Revolution. The war worsened the issues that already
existed in Russia and also highlighted the lack of leadership shown by the Tsar and the Provisional
Government set up after the February Revolution and also the Tsars military command over the
army during the war. However, World War One was not the only reason for the revolutions taking
place and acted as a tipping factor from the already undergoing social, political and economical

The provisional government tried to regain the support of the army and the Russian public by
making the army launch the June offensive, with the July offensive in the first two weeks being
able to exploit the poor morale of the Austrian Army were then pushed back because of soldiers
refusing to obey order thus overriding the early success. After the Germans counter attacked
leaving thousands of soldiers deserted the army suffered a collapse. Not only did this show how
poorly the Russian army was organised, equipped and mentally able to win the war but it also
showed the Provisional Governments disregard of listening to the publics cries to stop the war.
During the first revolution the political issues were a large factor for it to happen. With the Tsar
leaving the country to command the army, the Tsarina was left in charge. This was a poor
decision at first because the Tsarina was German and many people saw her as either a spy for
Germany or having split allegiances so would make poor decisions and not consider what was
best for Russia. The government became very unstable with the Tsarina in charge as she
continually kept changing the ministers especially if they did not want to make decisions
directed by the Man of God . On top of this the Tsarina took advice from a peasant called
Rasputin, who was first Tsars Nicholas II s sons doctor to try and cure his haemophilia. Rasputin
was a advisor to the Tsarina and many speculated

pharmacy, or on line. You need to take them as soon as possible preferably as soon as three days
if possible, but no later than five days after sex for the result to be the most effective. Again they
are used for preventing pregnancy, not for stopping, or aborting it. Contraceptives like condoms,
or other birth control methods are to protect, and hopefully prevent pregnancy if used correctly.
These are not 100% effective either, so do not rely on these methods to prevent STD, STI, or
prevent a 100% of pregnancies. You can find them at your local drugstore, on line, in store or
where ever you may shop. Some of the available methods are sold only by doctors because the
doctor must prescribe it, or a health center. They are used, or inserted in various ways look on the

World Wwar IItwo was one of the greatest and most important events in human history. It would

roles in how the war would turn out. Men like Joseph Stalin, Franklin Roosevelt, Adolf Hitler,
Benito Mussolini, Charles De Gaulle, and Winston Churchill. Out of all of these men the one that
did the most and played the biggest role in World war two is Winston Churchill. Winston Churchill

It really shows especially since the Germans surprised the world with there new military
strategies. Many countries would face the wrath of the German war machine by failing to adapt
to this new style of fighting its biggest victims to this was France, Poland, Denmark, Norway,
Greece, and Yugoslavia. But not Great Britain, Great Britain was one of the only countries to
adapt to this new style of fighting. Many say they were the fastest to adapt to the Blitzkrieg. It
took the Soviets years whereas the Brits would adapt even faster. Winston Churchill played a big
role in this fast adaption he would meet many important generals like Montgomery and discuss
military strategies and how to change the tide of the war with these strategies. They were even
meeting in a shelter in london while it was being bombarded just to change the tide of the war.
Which also shows Churchill s determination to not give in to his adversaries.

The Criminal Justice System Is Fair And True
Most people in America believe that our criminal justice system is fair and true. The idea that any
free citizen could be unjustly sentenced to prison or executed by the state is thought of as false.
Unfortunately now a days the judicial process has been infiltrated with false confessions,
eyewitness misidentification, improper forensic science, perjury, ineffective defense counsels,
messy police investigations and prosecutorial misconduct. Our criminal justicesystem is based on
the concept that every wrong has a cause and effect, thus forcing us to punish any and all offenders,
but with all the faults in our system how do we know who s guilty of committing the crime? Most of
the time this is when wrongful convictions occurs. A simple definition of wrongful conviction is
when innocent defendants are found guilty in criminal trials. Frequently these innocent defendants
are forced to go as far as to plead guilty to avoid death penalties or long prisonsentences. The
Number of wrongly convicted persons cannot be known with certainty, because no federal or state
agency keeps track of exonerations, let alone wrongful convictions. Many news stories, reports and
books fairly describe wrongful convictions in detail, although not all of these wrongful convictions
resulted in formal exonerations. In some of these cases, prosecutors insisted that the original verdict
was accurate despite strong new evidence of factual innocence, further clouding an understanding of
wrongful

Essay about History of the Juvenile Justice System
This paper will discuss the history of the juvenile justice system and how it has come to be what
it is today. When a juvenile offender commits a crime and is sentenced to jail or reform school,
the offender goes to a separate jail or reforming place than an adult. It hasn t always been this
way. Until the early 1800 s juveniles were tried just like everyone else. Today, that is not the case.
This paper will explain the reforms that have taken place within the criminal justice system that
developed the juvenile justice system. Before the Progressive Era, children who were over the age

The rising viewpoint of the child savers was that of parens patriae which said that the state had an

were allowed to have jurisdiction on things adult courts did not consider crimes. These offenses

of juvenile offenders and rejected the official procedures of the adult

Contemporary Theories Of Subcultures
A subculture is considered a group of dominant people or culture that has been defined in its
norms, values, and interests, which are often inconsistent to those of large groups. (Bohm Vogel,
2011) Subcultures were created when a group of people that share the same beliefs or
circumstances finds themselves cut off from society. (Bohm Vogel, 2011) These groups are distinct
from those of the majority and are held by a group into a broader society. Most subcultures are
recognized by their age of its members, or by race, ethnicity, class, gender, and their qualities that
may be aesthetic, religious, occupational, political, and sexual or a combination of these factors.
However, people create subcultures as a way to feel accepted while also signifying that they are
different from other groups. The subculture theory focuses on consistent distinctiveness, identity,
commitment, and autonomy.
The first subculture group I would like to recognize is the police they are law enforcement officers
with specific types of attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. I place them in the subculture category
because of they spend their time dealing with crime; therefore they tend to be judgmental towards
members of the public viewing them as untrustworthy and potentially hostile; therefore, the public
view the police as being unreliable and abusive as well. The police depend on their cohorts to back
them up, and mostly teamwork to apprehend criminals; therefore, it creates a dynamic of police

Us Occupation In Japan Research Paper
The occupation in Japan was fully American controlled project. In order to achieve the goals in the
Potsdam declaration, the US performed political, economic, social, and educational reform in Japan.
The US strategy to achieve the goals was demilitarization, disarmament, and democratization.
Before the US occupation, Japan had a fascist regime, which was an obstruction to democracy since
authoritarianism did not accept democratic ideals. With authoritarianism in Japan, parliaments did
not control government; national economic development was pursued; and militarism was a major
instrument in foreign policy. It was important to work towards the goal of reconstructing fascist

that the US stipulated had the political rationale to create anti communist society in Japan. Similar

SCAP removed the emperor worship and militarism from school textbooks and curriculums. They
purged teachers who supported authoritarianism and encouraged teachers to liberalize the
education. By eliminating militarism and ultra nationalism from Japanese education, the US sought
to construct peaceful principles in the Japanese future. The US occupation in Japan can be called
successful because the US achieved to build a nation following the laws of the newly created Anglo

Social Stratification According to Marx and Weber
Social stratification is the hierarchical arrangement of individuals into divisions of power and
wealth within a society. Social stratification relates to the socio economic concept of class,
consisting of the upper class, middle class, and lower class. Each class may be further subdivided
into smaller classes through the main indicator is occupation. This is the most practical and most

However, this suggests that Britain s class structure is becoming fragmented.
On the other hand, Weberians suggests that the middle classis fragmented into competing status
groups for example, professionals and managers. Zweig (1961) argued that a section of the
working class has adopted the economic and cultural lifestyle of the middle class, the
embourgeoisement thesis. Since the 1960s, skilled manual workers have seen an improvement in
wages and better living standards, often exceeding those of some of the middle class. However,
despite big improvements in living standards and lifestyles, there are still differences that separate
affluent manual workers from the middle class which suggests that embourgeoisement has not
occurred. For example, their high wages were only obtained through overtime and shift working.
Also, lack fringe benefits and have limited promotion opportunities. This was shown in
Goldthorpe and Lockwood s famous study of a car factory in Luton (1969). However, they argue
that there was signs of convergence between working class and middle class lifestyles, but
concluded that, rather than an increase in the middle class, what had emerged was a new working
class. Therefore, shows that the working class have fragmented into at least two different ways,
firstly the traditional working class, in decline and typically situated in the North of England.
Secondly, a new working class found in the newer

Overview of the Healthy Food for Healthy School Act Essay
It was lunch time and students walked into the cafeteria to purchase lunch. A wide variety of
food was placed in front of them to choose from ranging from pizza to burgers to bags of chips
and chocolate bars. Their choices were endless up until a new reform took over and enlisted new
changes. The Healthy Food for Healthy SchoolAct was placed on September 1st, 2008. Its policy
entailed schools to practice healthy eating where they would be dropping trans fat from food and
beverages sold in schools and establishing mandatory nutritionstandards for food and beverages
sold in schools (Ontario Ministry of Education). While this reform plays a significant role in the
health of students, it also has a great impact on other sectors.... Show more content on

As stated in Food: How School Food Affects Student Health, where there is a lack of creativity and
motivation to cultivate a healthy and sustainable menu, fast food chains, junk food vendors, and
soda companies rush in to fill the void, offering partnerships with schools that allow them to market
their products in schools (2008). With the new reform in place, schools have been instructed to
follow new guidelines and nutrition programmes to meet the standards of a healthy school. This
required the removal of vending machine sodas, and the reconfiguration of the foods in all school
cafeterias. With this new reform in place, schools have seen various outcomes from this change.
Having the Healthy Food for Healthy School Act means that any links with corporations would
result in minimal interactions and weaken the links they have. This can be seen as both a positive
and negative development. The positive outlook on it is that students will benefit greatly from the
healthy act as they will be encouraged to eat healthy foods and take part in an active and healthy
lifestyle. The downside is that implementing the healthy school act means putting more money
towards this section as healthier foods cost more than non healthy foods. As expenses are taken out
from other accounts, an ongoing increase of educational inequalities continues. Schools have found
themselves caught between the need to promote healthy choices and the need for

Beginning this paper with having to watch a movie brought me a lot of excuses on dreading to

The Infectious Diseases Society Of America
The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) has recently noted several model antibiotic
resistant bacteria strains with redesigned capabilities in pathogenesis, transmission and resistance.
These several strains, Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae,
Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter species, have been given the
acronym based title of the ESKAPE Pathogens. These strains of bacteriacompromise one of the
biggest threats faced by physicians today not because of the infectious and devastating illnesses
they lead to, but because of their ability to resist antibiotics in the healthcare setting. Failure for
industries, academia and government to cooperate and develop research/development operations
has left healthcare providers one step behind in the fight against these new brands of infectious
diseases. A lack of research/development operations has left the healthcare industry with antiquated
antibiotics no longer capable of targeting and eradicating these microorganisms in human systems.
Klebsiella pneumoniae(contributing the K in the ESKAPE acronym) is a strain of bacteria that has
recently developed resistance against a class of ОІ Lactam antibiotics developed from thienamycin
(a naturally derived product, discovered in 1976, of Streptomyces cattleya) known as carbapenems.

Research Paper On Grave s Disease
Solange Wright
Mr. O Donnell
Bio Society
November 29, 2016
Grave s Disease is an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid and its hormone production.
Normally, a healthy immune system releases antibodies that are designed to attack bacteria and
viruses. In addition to antibodies, the thyroid creates hormones that regulate overall hormone
production. With Grave s Disease, the immune system releases antibodies that imitate these thyroid
hormones; this leads to overproduction of hormones, or hyperthyroidism. Doctors are not sure as to
what exactly causes Grave s disease, but it is speculated that factors such as age play a role; as in,
younger people are typically more prone to this illness. Its symptoms include anxiety; sweating;

It is often the first resort for doctors when deciding how to treat their patient. First, a test is
administered to determine the appropriate dosage for the individual. This is done by intaking a
small quantity of the radioactive iodine, and seeing how the thyroid reacts to it. The more iodine
the thyroid absorbs, the smaller the prescribed dosage will be. The drug is taken via pill, and is
absorbed only by the thyroid cells; thus, no other cells will be affected by the drug s radiation.
Once ingested, the radiation immediately destroys almost all of the thyroid cells. This form of
treatment may sound flawless, but it is not certain. There are numerous risks associated with
radioactive iodine therapy. The most common would be hypothyroidism, which is the exact
opposite of Grave s disease. Instead of your thyroid overproducing hormones, the opposite occurs:
not enough hormones are produced for the body to metabolize. This results in patients having to
take thyroid replacement therapy for the rest of their lives ( Radioactive Iodine for
Hyperthyroidism par. 10). Expecting mother also cannot use RAI because the radiation can damage
the fetus thyroid, which can have a negative effect on its growth and development. In addition to
RAI being risky, it is also not the most efficacious treatment option. It can typically take half a year
to successfully eliminate the defective

Rowling has written one of the most recognizable and iconic pieces of literature. Harry Potter

readers. In this essay I will evaluate Rowling s magnum opus in order to compare her
implementations of the gospel to that of Tolkien and Lewis and to determine whether or not her
work is worthy of pertaining to the western canon. Also, I will describe the implications of her
novels on the platonic worldview according to Rowling s use of the themes of death and the

that of Tolkien and Lewis in order to analyze its causation of arousing hope and setting justice. The
novels crafted by Tolkien and Lewis seeks not only to entertain the reader but also to project their

Romeo s assumption that he can do little to change the course of his life and his commitment to

Examples Of Failure In Life
How to Fail in Life If there is one thing that every human being is guaranteed, it is a lifetime of

culture embraces this ideology. There is a sense of comfort in knowing that you are not alone in
your flaws. So why even try to succeed in life? Instead, learn these precise techniques and methods
to fail in life.
The first step at failing in life is to not make the best use of your time. Work, pressure, school and
many more aspects of life take too much time and effort. The average person spends most of their
weekday working on something for at least eight hours. That happens to be at least one third of the

As we have previously established, you are not perfect, and will never be anywhere close to
perfection. And that is perfectly okay. Once you have established this belief, it is also important to
never believe in any of your dreams. If you accept that you will never graduate from college, or
acquire your dream career, or marry your soul mate, or live a generally happy life, then you will
not have to suffer any disappointment. Furthermore, this lack of self confidence will prevent
you trying to accomplish a goal or overcome an obstacle. This is an essential key to failing in
life. As you can see, there are many ways to fail in life and many reasons to do so. Making the
best use of your time ensures that you are number one priority in your life and that you use it on
something that could benefit you the most. Sometimes in life, one must learn to give up and not try
to make things more complex for them by doing things that they know they could not bear. One
must get used to fearing life itself to prevent oneself from making bad decisions that would haunt

Differences Between Traditional And Modern Society
A society s progressively evolution has based a process of collective conditions and consensus,
reversal parties which had obsolete ideologies. Besides, a society s changing in which
individually participates, then a society is prepared to innovate until a cooperative opinion is
fulfilled. That a process of society growth causes two different definitions: tradition and modernity.
There are numerous viewpoints and conversations between traditional and modern society. For
example, in traditional society, in the words of Thompson, the child labour was an intrinsic part of
the agricultural and industrial economy before 1780, and remained so until rescued by the school
(Thompson, 1991, p. 121). However, within modern society, Conlin mentioned the argument of
Karl Polanyi the economy has a life of its own (Conlin, 2015). The questions arise, whether the
tradition is more brutal to people or community than modernity? Is modernity drifting apart from
tradition as a heretic? Therefore, to compare two societies this essay will provide the main view of
modern society s traits and conducts more conform the human beings, to compare two societies,
and this essay will only elaborate an opinion is more sympathetic to the modernity. This essay will
first state a brief description of tradition and modernity, to explain the distinction between two
societies. Then will explore the attribute of traditional society while it also references more

Cinderella Differences And Cinderella Compare
Cinderella Compare and Contrast Essay
Many people wonder where all the Cinderella stories originated from? They originated from the
most popular version written in French by Charles Perrault written in 1607. The Little Golden
book, the Grimm brothers version and the 2015 Disney Film version of Cinderella are all taken from
the original story. All Cinderella stories have the same storyline, but there are differences and
similarities between the archetypes and the characters and in the theme in the three versions.
There are lots of archetypes seen throughout all three versions. An archetype that is shown is
circles, which means wholeness and unity. An example of circles from The Little Golden Book
is A pumpkin rose up and swelled into an elegant coach (6). This shows that Cinderella s life is
becoming complete because the coach takes her the ball, which is where she meets the price she
marries. Another example of circles is the sun rise in the morning this is shown in the Grimms
version There she had to do hard work from morning until evening .... ( paragraph 6). This shows
wholeness in the morning when the sunrises being the sun is becoming whole and its a circle.
Likewise in the Little Golden Book, the Fairy Godmother turned the pumpkin into an elegant
coach that she road to the ball as projectiled in the 2015 Disney movie. This shows that her life is
coming complete because she has found her destiny which is the price she meets at the ball.
The theme is all three versions are similar but also have their own differences. The theme in the
Little Golden Book is hard work and kindness pays off. An example of this is Cinderella and the
prince lived happily ever after (12). This shows the them by the hard work Cinderella had to do
at home and also it means that because of all the hard work she got a reward which was to marry
the prince and live the life of her dreams. The theme for the 2015 Disney movie is Have Courage
and be kind . This was shown throughout the movie when Cinderella s mom told her have
courage and be kind just before she died. Also this is seen right before the prince s father died and
tells his the same message. Cinderella acted this way mainly because she was the princess not by

Plato Essay
Plato
Biography
Plato was born in Athens of an aristocratic family. He recounts in the Seventh Letter, which, if
genuine, is part of his autobiography, that the spectacle of the politics of his day brought him to
the conclusion that only philosophers could be fit to rule. After the death of Socrates in 399, he
travelled extensively. During this period he made his first trip to Sicily, with whose internal
politics he became much entangled. He visited Sicily at least three times in all and may have been
richly subsidised by Dionysius. On return from Sicily he began formal teaching at what became the
Academy.

The brilliant author, Michael Gerard Bauer, raises a key topic that affects many people in today s
society in his extraordinary novel, Don t Call Me Ishmael! Bauer wisely uses humorous situations
to pinpoint to young adults a well known problem in our society today, bullying. There is an
abundance of bullyingby one of the key characters in the book, the toughest and the meanest kid
in school, Barry Bagsley. Not only does Barry bully Ismael, but he also bullies other characters in
the book. At first Ishmael blames himself for the constant bullying he receives off Barry, however,
as the story continues Ishmael grows confidence and realises that Barry was the real problem and
bullying is strictly not allowed.
The horrendous acts of Barry affects many characters over the course of the novel, including Bill

Impactful Images

College Prep English 28 April 2017
Impactful Images A picture is worth a thousand words is a famous English idiom that many of us
have heard at least once in our lives. It s the reason picture books work so well, where there would
normally be pages of words describing a setting there is now simply an image or photograph
showing you in greater detail than what could have been described on one page with the use of
words. When you really think about it and put it into perspective the potential that a single image
can hold is incredible. The power to invoke countless emotions, raise a plethora of questions, or
even house answers to unsolved mysteries is something that is all too often overlooked, simply

We are able to capture a memory forever with just a click of a button, we can ask questions and
answer them just with pictures, we can even say a thousand words. I have learned people take
photographs for granted, and we need to appreciate them more, because they have meaning just
like any other piece of artwork. One can create so many memories with one simple picture.
Cameras, paintings and photos have changed the world and make people see things in a new light.
I will always believe there are impactful images all around us, we just need to let them impact us

Value Of Hard Work Essay
Hard work equals success in many people s eyes. Experiencing work with family, school, and in
the workplace has shown me the importance of hard work and dedication. Along with with that, I
have gained responsibility, experience, and balance. Although my experience has shown me the
importance of hard work and dedication, it has also helped me distinguish the risk of how the
the value of work can be taken for granted. I have not always had the right attitude towards work
as a whole, but I have learned to love the idea and application of it; with exceptions. As a child,
up until a certain point, I have always worked with my father in the restaurant business. My dad
fell in love with the restaurant business when he was younger. His dream was to own as many
restaurants as he could. The business started off small, but his dream came true overtime. We
went from waking up every morning in the summer selling tacos; to waking up and prepping for
opening at Hit The Spot Cafe . I hated waking up so early, but my dad said I didn t have a choice.
He gets up every day whether he feels like it or not. My father has always worked nonstop, and
he s the type to keep himself busy. Over the years I ve learned within my experience growing up
in such a business, and possibly most; it can be tough. Working with my dad taught me the value
of working hard. His dedication inspired me to wish to become just as focused with work. In all of
the jobs I ve acquired outside of my dad s business, I gave

Today S Chinese Characters Were Officially Established
Today s Chinese characters were officially established very recently, but they have one of the
longest histories in the world. Chinese characters have continuously developed for more than three
thousand years and finally the characters that are currently used are officially confirmed just
around 50 years ago, actually in 1956 by The First Scheme of Simplified Chinese Characters and
in 1977 by The Second Scheme of Simplified Chinese Characters . By means of simplification,
history is divided before and after the 20th century, but until 1949, when Quin dynasty to the
Republic of Chinaended, only 324 simplified characters had been recognized by the government.

Moreover in Qin dynasty, especially under the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, the Small
Seal scripts were created. In the former era there were hundreds of territories. This means there were
hundreds of ways of handwritings. However, his policy was the centralization of power so he
wanted to know about all of his territories. He divided his land into 36 parts, sent his subordinates to
each part, and made them record the information about the lands in order to grasp the width,
population, or products. His subordinates recorded about each lands in their originally simplified
characters and sometimes the emperor had difficulty in reading them. So in order to rule the
country efficiently, less complex scripts were adopted officially. Unification of writing system
meant consolidation of power, especially that writing is used I taxation, trade exchange, day to day
communication, etc. Small seal script unified not only the forms and variations, but also the
methods of writing, by introducing rules of writing, proportions, and symmetry (Ryuurui). In this
sentences, the words unification and unified emphasizes the importance of establishing simplified
standard characters. Therefore, the improvement of political systems, especially land systems, and
the simplification of Chinese characters are deeply related. Second, the improvement of letterpress
printing technology largely affected the simplification of Chinese characters. Although in the 15th

Earlier the work was based on the specific requirements of the client and it was more of research
based but now the focus on research will be less and it will be more on general requirements.
Therefore the type of work would shift.
The present organizational chart of the SC Department in the company includes two buyers, one
material control clerk, one expeditor and two shipper/receivers. This structure was functional to the
previous strategy because there was a strong focus on the purchasing function. We believe that in
order to maximize the SC Department resources in accordance with the new structure the positions
and functions of the people with the SC Department will have to be adapted to strengthen the
inventory management function of the company. There company could benefit from having one
person responsible for forecasting demand. Processes should be reviewed to ensure that the SC
Department has sufficient access to information in order to achieve this task. Re buying will also be
of utmost importance now in order to ensure that there is always sufficient inventory to maintain
production going.

Photosynthesis Experiment With Spinach
Photosynthesis is the process in which plants use sunlight to create energy. Sunlight gets absorbed
into chlorophyll in the plant cells which then convert the light to energy. That energy helps with the
process of hydrolysis in breaking CO2 and water down. Through this breaking up, oxygen and
glucose are created. Photosynthesishas total of six stages, but those are broken up into two main
stages. The first stage is a light dependent reaction, which is when the energy from the sunlight is
taken and then converted by the chlorophyll molecules into stored energy. This reaction takes place
in the thylakoid membranes in the granum within the chloroplast ( Light Dependent ). In this
reaction, there is a transfer of electrons from water to CO2 which begins the creation of the
byproduct of oxygen. The sunlight gives a boost of energy to the chlorophyll which gets over the
activation barrier and makes the chlorophyll release an electron (Vidyasagar). Chlorophyll
molecules trap the light through pigments and absorb... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The test was to see if spinach leaves could go through a short photosynthesis cycle without CO2,
light, or both. This was done by using sodium bicarbonate and water to create CO2 in two of the
beakers. With two beakers with CO2 and two without CO2, the effect of CO2 on photosynthesis
could be observed. Because sunlight is important to photosynthesis, the other part of the
experiment was to observe the difference between the spinach disks when exposed to sunlight and
the spinach disks when exposed to only darkness. Because of the photosynthetic equation: 6 CO2
+ 6 H2O + sunlight в†’ C6H12O6 + 6 O2, changing the light and the CO2 would impact the
outcome of the process. This would leave the leaves at the bottom of the beaker as they would not
be able to float up without the product of oxygen pushing them

  • 2. Foxconn In China Case Study China s success in consumer electronic manufacturing can be traced to the creation of special economic zones in the early 1980s, intended to increase foreign capital and boost exports as the means to integrate regional and global economies (Chan and Seldon 2013, 103). This capitalism was a sharp departure from the previous Communist based economic policies that dominated the country for decades (Ya and O Donnell 2017). The Shenzhen Special Economic Zone(one of four) was established in May 1980 adjacent to the border with Hong Kong, which was experiencing its own economic boom (Ngai and Chan 2012, Ya and O Donnell 2017). Manufacturing in the Shenzhen Economic Zone grew exponentially after the Chinese government began offering... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Grain dependent Henan Providence, which has the largest population of any providence, is largely excluded from the financial support provided to coastal areas of the country with large ports (French 2008). The Zhengzhou factory, however, is an outlier: a global symbol of foreign capitalism and economic prosperity in a region of China otherwise extremely poor (Barboza 2016). Zhengzhou is inseparably linked with the Chinese government; the Foxconn factory there provides a case study of exclusive economic incentives provided by the government to the company. Based on documents obtained by the New York Times, these benefits are unlike anything else in the world. For instance, the Zhengzhou government spent $1 billion dollars on housing for iPhone City s six million people, most of them Foxconn workers. The $600 million factory itself was largely financed by the government, and taxes were eliminated for Foxconn for five years. To facilitate rapid exportation of electronics, customs is located directly outside the factory s perimeter. An airport is nearby, in which the Zhengzhou government will be pumping $10 billion into. To staff this 2.2 mile factory site, the government assists in recruiting workers and providing formal training. Ultimately, state recruited workers in state subsidized housing not only benefits ... • 3. Moll Flanders And The Preface The justifications made by the narrator of Moll Flanders and the anonymous author of the Preface are not convincing because their claims are deceitful and appear to act in each individuals own self interests. The narrator influences the story through unbelievable, and sometimes excessive, explanations which control the readers thoughts about Moll Flanders choices and actions. Similarly, the author of the Preface directs the attention onto the readers judgements to defend the novel. Both the narrator and the author of the Preface abuse their power as storytellers in attempts to control the judgements of the readers and rationalize telling a story full of crime and wickedness. The author of the Preface recognizes that the readers will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The beginning of the novel does not agree with the justifications made by the author of the Preface. The readers soon discover that the story s narrator is unreliable, which makes it difficult to for the reader to have something of instruction from the story because the narrator may be lying to obscure the truth (author of Preface 5). The narrator, who goes by the name of Moll Flanders , does not expose herself (Defoe 7). When the novel begins she exclaims that My True Name is so well known in the Records, or Registers at Newgate, and in the Old Baily....that it is not expected I should set my Name (Defoe 7). The narrator conceals her true name to the readers because she recognizes that the proclamation of her name may result in an imprisonment for prior felonies. It is at this blurred point of view of the narrator that readers start to doubt if the events in the novel are true because they don t receive a genuine guide through the story. Instead, they are left with a nameless raconteur that conveys a personal account without disclosing her true self. The author of the Preface and the narrator exploit their power which, therefore, makes their justifications unconvincing. Moll Flanders often provides a passionate rationalization for her bad behavior which impacts the readers emotions and causes them to feel remorse for her. Many times throughout the ... • 4. The Prison Experiment And The Abu Ghraib Prison Kohlberg s morality theory defines various levels and stages where a person s morality can be tested on a scale. Reviewing the Stanford prison experiment and the Abu Ghraib prison was interesting. The guards in the Stanford prison experiment reacted differently than each other and showed different levels of morality. In the Abu Ghraib prison, the guards were put in a real life situation where the morals were tested. It was fascinating to see how the two different scenarios had similar behaviors. The guards had different morality levels that varied by how the prisoners acted towards the guards. At the start of the experiment, no guards were given orders on how to maintain the jail and prisoners. Going into the experiment many guards had the incentive of Level 2 Stage 4, because they wanted to have rules to promote order within the prison. For an example of this, guards had lineups for the prisoners to familiarize their new number identities. When the prisoners did not follow these rules, the guards shifted levels. At first it started at Level 1 Stage 1, because the prisoners only broke minor rules, like talking back to the guards or not taking the lineups seriously. Therefore, guards served minor punishment such as making the prisoners do pushups. Rules were broken more severely which led to more severe punishment. The guards had to punish the prisoners, because on the second day they staged a rebellion in which they locked themselves in their cells. The level of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ABC will also provide more decision useful information for the service industry, characterized by diversity in range of services provided. The level at which activities are analysed can vary widely from the very aggregate to the very detailed. The level of detail should be matched to the level of analysis required to improve the decision making within the organisation. Even within a single organisation, the level of detail can very from one part of the analysis to another, excessive detail will bog down the project and not provide any material benefit to the analysis. Too little detail will obscure the meaningful results that could be achieved. The usefulness of an ABC analysis can be further enhanced by including a value analysis of every activity. When constructing an ABC model, activity costs can be either traced directly to a cost objects. Examples of enabling activities include paying employees and supporting PC users . We can then generate reports for these activities in various formats that show both the direct resources as well as those supports activities that form part of the total cost. Reports generally list the activities from highest cost to lowest cost. Management can then evaluate these activity costs in terms of whether they are too high, too low, or in the expected range. To a certain extent, the First World War was a major contributing factor to the two revolutions that took place in 1917, the February and October Revolution. The war worsened the issues that already existed in Russia and also highlighted the lack of leadership shown by the Tsar and the Provisional Government set up after the February Revolution and also the Tsars military command over the army during the war. After the Germans counter attacked leaving thousands of soldiers deserted the army suffered a collapse. During the first revolution the political issues were a large factor for it to happen. With the Tsar leaving the country to command the army, the Tsarina was left in charge. This was a poor decision at first because the Tsarina was German and many people saw her as either a spy for Germany or having split allegiances so would make poor decisions and not consider what was best for Russia. The government became very unstable with the Tsarina in charge as she continually kept changing the ministers especially if they did not want to make decisions directed by the Man of God . The idea that any free citizen could be unjustly sentenced to prison or executed by the state is thought of as false. Unfortunately now a days the judicial process has been infiltrated with false confessions, eyewitness misidentification, improper forensic science, perjury, ineffective defense counsels, messy police investigations and prosecutorial misconduct. Our criminal justicesystem is based on the concept that every wrong has a cause and effect, thus forcing us to punish any and all offenders, but with all the faults in our system how do we know who s guilty of committing the crime? Most of the time this is when wrongful convictions occurs. A simple definition of wrongful conviction is when innocent defendants are found guilty in criminal trials. Frequently these innocent defendants are forced to go as far as to plead guilty to avoid death penalties or long prisonsentences. The Number of wrongly convicted persons cannot be known with certainty, because no federal or state agency keeps track of exonerations, let alone wrongful convictions. Many news stories, reports and books fairly describe wrongful convictions in detail, although not all of these wrongful convictions resulted in formal exonerations. In some of these cases, prosecutors insisted that the original verdict was accurate despite strong new evidence of factual innocence, further clouding an understanding of wrongful ... • 18. Contemporary Theories Of Subcultures A subculture is considered a group of dominant people or culture that has been defined in its norms, values, and interests, which are often inconsistent to those of large groups. (Bohm Vogel, 2011) Subcultures were created when a group of people that share the same beliefs or circumstances finds themselves cut off from society. (Bohm Vogel, 2011) These groups are distinct from those of the majority and are held by a group into a broader society. Most subcultures are recognized by their age of its members, or by race, ethnicity, class, gender, and their qualities that may be aesthetic, religious, occupational, political, and sexual or a combination of these factors. However, people create subcultures as a way to feel accepted while also signifying that they are different from other groups. The subculture theory focuses on consistent distinctiveness, identity, commitment, and autonomy. The first subculture group I would like to recognize is the police they are law enforcement officers with specific types of attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. I place them in the subculture category because of they spend their time dealing with crime; therefore they tend to be judgmental towards members of the public viewing them as untrustworthy and potentially hostile; therefore, the public view the police as being unreliable and abusive as well. The police depend on their cohorts to back them up, and mostly teamwork to apprehend criminals; therefore, it creates a dynamic of police ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to achieve the goals in the Potsdam declaration, the US performed political, economic, social, and educational reform in Japan. The US strategy to achieve the goals was demilitarization, disarmament, and democratization. Before the US occupation, Japan had a fascist regime, which was an obstruction to democracy since authoritarianism did not accept democratic ideals. With authoritarianism in Japan, parliaments did not control government; national economic development was pursued; and militarism was a major instrument in foreign policy. Social stratification relates to the socio economic concept of class, consisting of the upper class, middle class, and lower class. Each class may be further subdivided into smaller classes through the main indicator is occupation. This is the most practical and most effective means of encompassing the wide variety of economic and social elements that go to make up a person s class through their education, status, income and power. On the other hand, Weberians suggests that the middle classis fragmented into competing status groups for example, professionals and managers. Zweig (1961) argued that a section of the working class has adopted the economic and cultural lifestyle of the middle class, the embourgeoisement thesis. Since the 1960s, skilled manual workers have seen an improvement in wages and better living standards, often exceeding those of some of the middle class. However, despite big improvements in living standards and lifestyles, there are still differences that separate affluent manual workers from the middle class which suggests that embourgeoisement has not occurred. For example, their high wages were only obtained through overtime and shift working. Also, lack fringe benefits and have limited promotion opportunities. This was shown in Goldthorpe and Lockwood s famous study of a car factory in Luton (1969). However, they argue that there was signs of convergence between working class and middle class lifestyles, but concluded that, rather than an increase in the middle class, what had emerged was a new working class. Therefore, shows that the working class have fragmented into at least two different ways, firstly the traditional working class, in decline and typically situated in the North of England. A wide variety of food was placed in front of them to choose from ranging from pizza to burgers to bags of chips and chocolate bars. Their choices were endless up until a new reform took over and enlisted new changes. The Healthy Food for Healthy SchoolAct was placed on September 1st, 2008. Its policy entailed schools to practice healthy eating where they would be dropping trans fat from food and beverages sold in schools and establishing mandatory nutritionstandards for food and beverages sold in schools (Ontario Ministry of Education). The downside is that implementing the healthy school act means putting more money towards this section as healthier foods cost more than non healthy foods. These strains of bacteriacompromise one of the biggest threats faced by physicians today not because of the infectious and devastating illnesses they lead to, but because of their ability to resist antibiotics in the healthcare setting. Normally, a healthy immune system releases antibodies that are designed to attack bacteria and viruses. In addition to antibodies, the thyroid creates hormones that regulate overall hormone production. With Grave s Disease, the immune system releases antibodies that imitate these thyroid hormones; this leads to overproduction of hormones, or hyperthyroidism. First, a test is administered to determine the appropriate dosage for the individual. This is done by intaking a small quantity of the radioactive iodine, and seeing how the thyroid reacts to it. The more iodine the thyroid absorbs, the smaller the prescribed dosage will be. The drug is taken via pill, and is absorbed only by the thyroid cells; thus, no other cells will be affected by the drug s radiation. Once ingested, the radiation immediately destroys almost all of the thyroid cells. This form of treatment may sound flawless, but it is not certain. There are numerous risks associated with radioactive iodine therapy. The most common would be hypothyroidism, which is the exact opposite of Grave s disease. • 47. Photosynthesis Experiment With Spinach Photosynthesis is the process in which plants use sunlight to create energy. Sunlight gets absorbed into chlorophyll in the plant cells which then convert the light to energy. That energy helps with the process of hydrolysis in breaking CO2 and water down. Through this breaking up, oxygen and glucose are created. Photosynthesishas total of six stages, but those are broken up into two main stages. The first stage is a light dependent reaction, which is when the energy from the sunlight is taken and then converted by the chlorophyll molecules into stored energy. This reaction takes place in the thylakoid membranes in the granum within the chloroplast ( Light Dependent ). In this reaction, there is a transfer of electrons from water to CO2 which begins the creation of the byproduct of oxygen. The sunlight gives a boost of energy to the chlorophyll which gets over the activation barrier and makes the chlorophyll release an electron (Vidyasagar). Chlorophyll molecules trap the light through pigments and absorb... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The test was to see if spinach leaves could go through a short photosynthesis cycle without CO2, light, or both. This was done by using sodium bicarbonate and water to create CO2 in two of the beakers. With two beakers with CO2 and two without CO2, the effect of CO2 on photosynthesis could be observed. Because sunlight is important to photosynthesis, the other part of the experiment was to observe the difference between the spinach disks when exposed to sunlight and the spinach disks when exposed to only darkness. Because of the photosynthetic equation: 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + sunlight в†’ C6H12O6 + 6 O2, changing the light and the CO2 would impact the outcome of the process. This would leave the leaves at the bottom of the beaker as they would not be able to float up without the product of oxygen pushing them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
