Hydro MicroScreen™ vs Primary Settling Tanks

The Hydro MicroScreen is an alternative to primary settling tanks for wastewater treatment that uses a rotating belt to physically separate solids and liquids. It can achieve equivalent or better removal of TSS, BOD, and FOG compared to primary tanks, while using half the cost, 90% less space, and 50% less power. The Hydro MicroScreen also produces sludge that is up to 50% drier than primary settling tanks. It has been successfully used to reduce treatment costs and space needs at wastewater plants.

Waste Water Treatment
Primary treatment devices are referred to as sedimentation tanks, primary tanks, primary clarifiers or primary settling tanks, some of which have the further function of providing an additional compartment for the decomposition of settled organic solids which is known as sludge digestion.
Secondary wastewater treatment is the second stage of wastewater treatment that takes place after the primary treatment process. The process consists of removing or reducing contaminants or growths that are left in the wastewater from the primary treatment process. Usually biological treatment is used to treat wastewater in this step because it is the most effective type of treatment on bacteria, or contaminant, growth.
Tertiary treatment is the next wastewater treatment process after secondary treatment. This step removes stubborn contaminants that secondary treatment was not able to clean up. Wastewater effluent becomes even cleaner in this treatment process through the use of stronger and more advanced treatment systems.

Biological processes

Biological treatment is an important process for wastewater treatment that utilizes microorganisms to break down organic impurities. The most common biological treatment process is activated sludge, which uses aerobic bacteria in an aeration tank to degrade wastewater. Trickling filters and oxidation ponds are alternative biological processes that are often used for smaller treatment systems. Trickling filters use a media like rock or plastic that bacteria grow on to treat wastewater as it trickles through. Oxidation ponds rely on algae and bacteria in large open ponds to break down organic matter through natural aerobic and anaerobic processes.

Water treatment is the Process of removal of contaminants from untreated water to produce drinking water that is pure enough for the most critical of its intended uses, usually for human consumption. Substances that are removed during the process of drinking water treatment include suspended solids, bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi, minerals such as iron, manganese and sulfur, and other chemical pollutants such as fertilizers.Preliminary treatment of wastewater generally includes those processes that remove debris and coarse biodegradable material from the waste stream and/or stabilize the wastewater by equalization or chemical addition. Purification of water

- 1. Hydro MicroScreen™ vs Primary Settling Tanks Municipal Wastewater
- 2. Primary treatment Primary settling tanks are widely used to remove wastewater TSS and BOD. TSS: Total Suspended Solids BOD: Biological Oxygen Demand
- 3. Primary treatment Larger, more slowly biodegradable solids settle and are removed as sludge. Fine and dissolved solids remain in suspension and are contained in the effluent.
- 4. Normally, primary settling tanks are designed to provide 1.5–2.5 hours of detention. But performance is adversely affected by short circuiting, hydraulic stability, temperature and wind. Primary treatment

- 6. A different approach But what if you could get equivalent or better performance in a smaller, more efficient unit?
- 7. The Hydro MicroScreen™ The Hydro MicroScreen™ is a rotating belt screening system. It uses a physical barrier to separate liquids and solids.
