1. Learn what Braille, the language of the blind, is and practise it.
2. Learn a bit of sign language, the language of the deaf, as well.
3. See can you use your name, tell a joke or pass a secret message.

Warm-up. Pens paper, journal
• Your going to be shown a five minute video about Louis Braille
who, blinded as a child, invented an easier way for blind people
to read. You shall write an opinion after the video. Pay attention.

Warm-up
Write a full sentence answer to ONE of the following
questions before we share with the class.
 Do you know anyone that has, or have you, ever used Braille
or sign language?
or
 How hard do you think life would be if you couldn’t see or
hear? Think about the video you just saw before you write
an answer.
(Today’s class won’t use the book and is a fun welcome back.
You will be taking notes still )
 (Note) A form of written language for the blind, in which
characters are represented by patterns of raised dots that are
felt with the fingertips. There are 6 spaces for dots.

(Note) What is Braille ?
 For today’s class, don’t worry about capital letters, full stops and
grammar with Braille.
 Experiment with the letters and try to write the following:
1. Your name.
2. A message to someone else (plans, a joke – nothing offensive)
 Start by writing what you want to convey on your page in letters .
 Count how many letters you have. (That sentence 5 (space), 3 (space),
4 (space), 7 (space), 3 (Space), 4) and draw that many boxes.

  • 1. Homework – Page 15 reflective journal end of last class Skills: working with others, communication Objectives: . 1. Learn what Braille, the language of the blind, is and practise it. 2. Learn a bit of sign language, the language of the deaf, as well. 3. See can you use your name, tell a joke or pass a secret message. Heading: Human Dignity 5 Date: Warm-up. Pens paper, journal • Your going to be shown a five minute video about Louis Braille who, blinded as a child, invented an easier way for blind people to read. Warm-up Write a full sentence answer to ONE of the following questions before we share with the class.  Do you know anyone that has, or have you, ever used Braille or sign language? or  How hard do you think life would be if you couldn’t see or hear? Think about the video you just saw before you write an answer. (Today’s class won’t use the book and is a fun welcome back. You will be taking notes still )
  • 3.  (Note) A form of written language for the blind, in which characters are represented by patterns of raised dots that are felt with the fingertips. There are 6 spaces for dots. •To the left is the first sentence written above. •Copy the Braille cell to the right as well. Braille cell (Note) What is Braille ?

  • 5.  For today’s class, don’t worry about capital letters, full stops and grammar with Braille.  Experiment with the letters and try to write the following: 1. Your name. 2. A message to someone else (plans, a joke – nothing offensive)  Start by writing what you want to convey on your page in letters .  Count how many letters you have. (That sentence 5 (space), 3 (space), 4 (space), 7 (space), 3 (Space), 4) and draw that many boxes. 1. Task
