Warm-up – pens, paper, journal, books
Take down the definition, then raise your hand and answer the question:
Redevelopment: Constructing new buildings or infrastructure
after tearing down old ones.
Open your green books on page 134. Do you recognise any of
the pictures 1-5? Has anyone any stories they would like to
share concerning one of the pictures?
Homework: reflective journal page 85
Skills: Literacy, managing information
Objectives:
1. Examine a case of good development and bad development in
Ireland.
Heading: Development 5 Date:
 We shall read pages 134- 136 today, taking notes along the
way.
 You shall get to complain about the quality of your internet
by writing a short e-mail in your reflective journals to the
local newspaper.
 We’ll then examine an infographic and you’ll be able to start
your homework.
 I will discuss your research projects at the end of class as
well. They are due soon.
Plan for today Development 5 Date:
 I shall need five volunteers today to read. Raise hands at the end
of a paragraph. Take notes as we go.
 (note) There is sometimes a limited amount of space in a town
or city. Sometimes people don’t like what would replace an
abandoned building however.
 (note) Revitalised: given new life or made more productive.
 (note) Ghost estates: unfinished houses built during the Celtic
Tiger. An example of overreaching.
 When you are finished the notes, examine the pictures on page
135 and 136. What do you see?
Page 134 - 136 Reading and writing
 Page 86 Reflective Journal – there is a task asking you to
complain that your internet sucks. In the e-mail, include:
1. An example of something you cannot do or cannot do well
because of poor internet connections.
2. Ask that Louth / Meath county council invest in better
broadband infrastructure.
 Complete the infographic on page 87 then.
Reflective journal task
 Complete page 87 (blue book)
 (Use green book page 133 to help)
 Research projects are due next
week. Good luck.
