Gastrointestinal Tract Research Paper
Abstract After entering the gastrointestinal tract on the way to their physiological site of infection,
enteric bacteria encounter a remarkable diversity in environmental conditions. There are gross
differences in the physico chemical parameters in different sections of the Gastrointestinal tract (GI)
tract e.g. between the stomach, small intestine and large intestine. Furthermore, even within a certain
anatomical site, there are subtle differences in the microenvironment e.g. between the lumen, mucous
layer and epithelial surface. Enteric pathogens must not only survive passage through the rapidly
changing environments encountered at different niches of the GI tract but must also appropriately
coordinate expression of virulence determinants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several studies have revealed pathogen specific responses to bile that alter the expression of virulence
factors. When V. cholerae was grown in the presence of bile, expression of the essential virulence
genes ctxAB and tcpA was drastically repressed [30]. Since bile is a heterogeneous mixture, crude bile
was fractionated, and the components that mediate virulence gene repression were identified. It was
shown that unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) present in bile, arachidonic, linoleic, and oleic acids were
responsible for repression of ctxAB and tcpA genes [31]. However, expression of toxT encoding the
direct transcriptional activator of ctxAB and tcpA was not affected and ToxT protein levels were
similar between V. cholerae grown in the presence or absence of bile or UFAs [31]. Subsequently, the
crystal structure of ToxT revealed that unsaturated fatty acids can bind to ToxT and keeps ToxT in a
closed conformation that is not capable of binding DNA [32]. Hence ToxT cannot activate expression
of ctxAB and tcpA in the presence of bile or UFAs and the genes continue to be repressed by H NS
[33]. Bile also causes drastic repression of virulence genes in salmonellae. Salmonellae grown in the
presence of bile demonstrated a marked

False Perception Paper
False Perception There are times when correlation between variables appears to present an obvious
causal relationship, however, it is irresponsible for both researchers and the news media to produce
predictions without looking for alternate factors. A good example is decades of reporting on the
relationship between single mother households (independent variable) and rising crime rates
(dependent variable). The preceding example was explored by Philip Cohen (2012) in his article on
the single mom and murder rate relationship during the 1990s, in which he noted, I think single
mothers especially those who were raising kids back in the 1990s deserve an apology from the
conventional wisdom purveyors of that time (para. 2). Beginning with an exploration of the media s
interpretation of this relationship, I will also further examine the correct interpretation, and the policy
implications of Cohen s finding. The Media s Interpretation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Sadly, it appears the media bought into an apparent epidemic and began to publish reports, perhaps
driven by confirmation bias or simply failing to conduct enough investigation. The published reports
in the 1990s cited the cause of rising crime rates as the rising amount of black households with single
mothers that were unable to control their children, instill values, etc. (Cohen, 2012). While I believe it
is not that farfetched to assume there is a relationship between family structure and the youths from
those households committing crime, I also believe there are other factors involved that the media
should have

My Observation Of A Civil Case I Had To Do With Divorce
For my observation, I chose to observe a civil case that had to do with a divorce. I did some research
on the cases, and chose one that was similar to an experience I went through. My parents are currently
separated, and my father simply refused to pay child support. He lives outside of the state, so it was
hard for my mother to have face to face confrontation with him. She got tired of raising three kids on
her own, and finally decided to take him to court. I was required to serve as a witness. This took place
in 2009, so I was thirteen years old and didn t really understand much of what was going on. I timidly
walked to the stand and was sworn in. I then answered the questions the attorney asked me.
The divorce case I observed has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were two women sitting opposite of me, so I felt better about watching the case. I slowly got my
notebook out and began taking notes.
Although I had arrived after the case had begun, I had a little bit of background knowledge and could
easily follow what was going on. The case was between Joseph B. McCarthy and his ex wife, Annie J.
Ashment McCarthy. Joseph was the defendant, and Annie was the plaintiff. Annie had a lawyer by her
side, and Joseph stood alone. Annie s lawyer was Brad E. Macdonald. The defendant had failed to pay
child support and owed his ex wife an arrearage of thirty thousand dollars.
When I walked in, the defendant was seated on the stand, and he was telling the judge that he had filed
for custody of his four children. As he was explaining why, Brad Macdonald, the ex wife s lawyer,
objected. His reason for objecting was that the basis for filing was not relevant. I didn t know that
lawyers were free to interrupt people on the bench while they were presenting their case. The judge
sustained the objection, and the defendant continued to plead his case.
I immediately noticed that the defendant didn t have a lawyer, and it shocked me because I don t
usually hear of people successfully defending themselves in court. Before presenting his evidence, he
asked the judge a question on how he was supposed to present it, and Judge Green responded by
telling him that he had the opportunity to have a lawyer appointed for

The Myths behind King Arthur
King Arthur In this paper will be discussed the myths behind King Arthur. King Arthur was a British
legend and over time the stories became a collection of stories written by different authors. King
Arthur was actually a general in the fifth century that fought to keep Brittan a free paradise of the
western hemisphere. With the different writers over the years writing about the great King Arthur the
stories got distorted and became more of myth than that of truth of the real King Arthur. The first
writings of King Arthur were around 830 by an author by the name of Nennius, according to the
Britons. There are many writings in existence today, as many as 200 over King Arthur. Much of the
myths of King Arthur and the legends of Merlin and Guinevere are what people read today. Much of
these are myths and not actual facts, though all started out with the actual life facts of King Arthur
from his birth in Tintagel to his death, they just got bent out of shape with the different writers over
the years. King Arthur was actually Lucius Artorius Castus, Arthur s name was originally Artorius, a
family name. This is where King Arthur became more of a myth than a real person. The myths became
more widespread when the marriage of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine in France. This is where the
more romantic and spiritual myths began about King Arthur. In this time the author Chretien de Troyes
of the French court wrote about the Holy Grail. This is one of the first of

Examples Of Peer Review The Devil s Advocate
Peer Review: The Devil s Advocate
The legal thriller directed by Taylor Hackford , The Devil s Advocate , cleverly has an entertaining
morality play. This movie is not about being someone s Devil s Advocate but actually reflect the devil
himself. The movie reviewed by my peer, Aastha Saluja, turns out to be charged heavily on moral and
ethical questions and the review successfully brings out the relation of law and morality. The movie
avoids clumsy moralization and old hat notions of good and evil. The review written by Aastha very
well portrays the question whether winning is everything in the legal profession . By aptly identifying
the core theme of the movie, my peer begins her review with an efficiently written introduction. ...

Going after success and its trappings when it gets out of hand has been successfully identified by my
peer when she talks about how Kevin fought his own conscience for his greed. However she did not
elaborate it by telling how ambition is not very rewarding in the long run. She also failed to talk about
how he knew his bible. He could quote the verses his mother referred to which can be seen in the very
beginning of the movie when he finishes a verse referred by his mother. Throughout the movie he
wrestles with his calling and his passion. This was not mentioned in her review. In this review she fails
to connect the title The Devil s Advocate of the movie to what it actually means. According to me, the
title has two aspects. First being the actual meaning of the word. Devil s advocate is a person
appointed by the Roman Catholic Church to challenge a proposed beatification or canonization, or the
verification of a miracle. Secondly, how the title indirectly talks about the Devil himself. This movie is
about Satan and sin. This movie however does not laud sin but exposes it as the tools of a devious,

The Battle Of Bull Run
The Battle of Bull Run was one of the first major battles in the United States Civil War. The battle
took place on July 21st, 1861 just twenty five miles southwest of Washington D.C., which was also
the center of the Union Government. This battle also convinced the Lincoln administration and the
North that the Civil War would last longer than they expected and would be consisting of bloodier
fights costing many more lives. The US Civil War is known as the second most deadly war America
has ever experienced (behind World War II). The leading commanders of the Battle of Bull Run were
General Irvin McDowell, from the Union, and Brigadier General P.G.T. Beauregard and General
Joseph E. Johnston, from the Confederacy. Neither of the commanding generals from North nor South
was remotely ready for the conditions and the casualties their armies would endure in this war. The
most important thing they did not know was that the Battle of Bull Run was this battle would help
start the deadliest war the US has ever experienced. The events that led up to the Civil War were
disagreements about political beliefs and most importantly, slavery. Even though many historians want
to believe that slavery was not the main cause, other historians want to believe that the causes were
many other little factors. For example, principle of State s Rights, and taxation were the two other
historians believed was the cause. The Western states sought to preserve the Union as one

Closed Captioning Research Paper
Deaf people have experienced many difficulties that hearing people do not encounter. As a hearing
person, you can hear all sorts of sounds, whether you want to or not however, deaf people do not get
the same opportunities. Imagine watching a TV show, or a vine, or a movie and not being able to hear
what the people are saying. How would you feel if you were only able to watch the people on screen
and had to guess what was going on? What if you could not hear the surrounding noises? As a way to
allow deaf people to fully understand what is happening on screen, closed captioning was created.
Not all failures are bad. Some failures can create good ideas and great solutions to many different
things. In 1970, the National Bureau of Standards and ABC TV tried an experiment. The experiment
failed but its failure lead to a major success, closed captioning. The First National Conference on
television for the Hearing Impaired in 1971 debuted two ideas for closed captioning. The captioning
ideas both displayed the captions on specially equipped devices for the deaf and ... Show more content

have fought and pushed for a way for them to be able to have the full experience of motion pictures

programs did not support it in the beginning stages. Closed captions are words on the bottom of a
screen that can be accessed through the settings of either the television or the movie. Closed captions
can help individuals have a better understanding of what is going on and it can help them grasp the
content on the screen better. Though closed captioning has been around for a few decades, there are
still many flaws. The captions are not always in time with what the actors are saying and the words

Review Of Sci Fi
Sci fi Paper Synopsis My sci fi paper will be about humanity s first trip to Mars. It will explore the
challenges, as well as the luxuries, of being on this first manned mission to Mars. A crew of over 100
of the Earth s best scientists travel to a new world to explore and start a colony. This paper will follow
closely with Elon Musk s current plan to put humans on Mars in the not so distant future, and will
look into the advanced technologies developed for this purpose.
A New World
(Intro) There are many questions that need to be answered about how to successfully put humans on
Mars and eventually colonize this new world. Yet there are also several new technological advances
that have been made or are planned for the near future that will make this groundbreaking mission
possible. Some of these critical questions that need to be answered include the following: How will
humans have access to drinkable water on Mars? How will humans handle and adapt to a lower
gravity environment? What kind of rocket will be used to send humans to Mars? When can we expect
that technology to be ready? How is all of this technology supposed to work to put humans on Mars?
By answering these questions, we will create a picture of what it will look like when humans finally
make it to Mars and start to colonize that new world. Before we dig into the details of the technology,
it is important to first ask, why should humans go to Mars? What do we gain from going to Mars?

Creating A Better Recognition System
ABSTRACT
Bangla word recognition is extremely challenging and there are too few works reported on online
cursive Bangla word recognition. Bangla is a complicated script and it needs rigorous investigations to
implement a better recognition system. While we have sophisticated classifiers like Hidden Markov
Models or BLSTM Neural Networks for recognition of complicated scripts, we have very little
comparative studies about the appropriate feature sets for such scripts. In this paper, our aim is to
implement an appropriate recognition system for author independent unconstrained Bangla word
where a modified feature set is proposed. To construct the modified feature set, we modify existing
feature sets and add new features for improvement of recognition accuracy. We test performances of
various existing feature sets and proposed feature set on same Bangla dataset for fair comparison and
report the comparative results using various lexicons upto 20,000 word lexicon. Each time an HMM
based classifier is used to test the feature set. Finally, a recognition system is built over the
combination of existing and modified feature sets.
Keywords: Online handwriting recognition, online character recognition, lexicon driven approach,
Bangla script, Indic script, cursive text recognition.

Diverse University Experience
Universities in the present globalized world have a diverse student population. I believe this aspect has
an important role to play in the overall educational experience of students. Diversity has many forms
such as gender, race or ethnicity, nationality or place of origin, disability, etc. When students interact
with fellow students who are different from them, they learn to value and respect differences. I feel it
helps in developing students who are more open to new ideas and willing to experiment. Ultimately,
this creates a more tolerant society. Growing up in India surrounded by cultures different from my
own, I was encouraged to value both the commonalities and differences of the human experience. As a
graduate student at McGill, and while living in Montreal, a vibrant multicultural city, the experiences
that I gained further shaped my worldview. To demonstrate how I will employ my competency in a
diverse academic setting I will focus here on the approaches that I used during my graduate years at
McGill. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McGill has a significant size of international students. This provided me ample opportunity to imbibe
aspects of different culture. As a TA, I carefully listened to students with my own perceptions set
aside, since I believe assumptions such as an easy concept or a hard concept are based on my cultural
and educational background, and not that of my students. I always tried to include in my lectures
examples of people (inventors, scientists) from an array of backgrounds. This supported students to
relate easily with the scenarios that I discussed in the class or in a project meeting, and it helped them
in shaping their own identities. In order to create an open environment, I facilitated dialogue in the

The Relation Between Premarital Cohabitation And Divorce...
The Relation Between Premarital Cohabitation and Divorce Rates
Shalene Gerritsen
University of Nebraska
Introduction to Sociological Research
November 18, 2014
Many couples find themselves cohabiting today because it is cheaper and more convenient while
others take it as a step forward in their committed relationships. Regardless of reason cohabiting has
become a union of choice. In recent years cohabitation has transformed from an act of deviance to a
norm in many societies. We will be focusing on how time and social change determines cohabitation
and divorce.
LITERATURE REVIEW There have been many conflicting studies on whether there is a clear
relation between premarital cohabitation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Waal (2008) predicts that there will be 2.93m cohabiting couples by 2021 (p. 47). This would be a
90% increase in the past 25 years. Cohabiting couples have become more common due to the increase
in social acceptance. An article in the New York Times (2012) contributes the increase to the sexual
revolution and the availability of birth control.
Theory and Research Question The relation between cohabitation and divorce rates can also be
explained through the use of Deviance. Deviance is a theory in which a society views an action as
unacceptable (William and Thorton 2014). Cohabitation has transferred from being deviant to a social
norm in past years. Those who cohabit are no longer a minority. For this reason the Deviance Theory
is a possible explanation as to why there has been a shift in the relation between premarital
cohabitation and divorce rates. We question the relation between premarital cohabitation and divorce.
From looking at literature regarding this question I hypothesize that time and social change determines
cohabitation and divorce.
Methods. The qualitative method proposed for gathering data is a longitudinal cohort study.
Participants in the study include couples who have been married in the year 2015. The participants
will include 20 couples from each of the 50 states. 10 of the couples will have cohabited prior to
marriage

The Positive And Negative Effects Of The Cold War On Liberia
The Cold War; tension between the world s greatest superpowers, the United States, a democracy, and
the Soviet Union, a communist nation after WWII. This event caused both positive and negative
effects on Liberia, although they were not directly involved, they were very much impacted from the
relationship they had with the United States. Although there were both positive and negative impacts
on Liberia from the Cold War, the negative impacts largely outweighed the positive. The Cold War
contributed to many positive opportunities for Liberia. Since the first settlers in Liberia were free
African American slaves, the U.S and Liberia had a longstanding relationship. In 1942 Pan Am built
an airport in Liberia to make it easier for U.S soldiers to reach Northern Africa and Southern Europe
as they were fighting in the Cold War. Not only did this help the U.S soldiers more easily prevent
Soviet influence in these countries, but it also created the first modernized piece of transportation in
the country of Liberia. The Liberian president at the time, William Tubman was very pro American
and followed in the footsteps of U.S ideology. From the U.S point of view during the Cold War having
a country on their side meant they had to do what they could to keep that country on their standing.
So, in 1959 the U.S allowed the Liberian military to train with them and created a mutual defense pact
with the country. As the years went on, the U.S was busy trying to keep up relationships with

Analysis Of Noises Off
Theater was always something that I admired and wanted to get involved with, but I never did. Noises
Off is the second play I ve ever attended in my entire life. Watching this play and analyzing it has

sections I will discuss the general plot of the play. I will describe the characters and who they are. I
will also talk about the set, lighting, dialogue, music, and other aspects of the theater. First, let s
introduce the characters. Noises Off, is a play within a play written by Michael Frayn. The play that
the characters are rehearsing and performing is called Nothing On. There are nine characters, who all
play a significant part in conveying the story. The major roles are Dotty Otley performed by Mary

Flu Season Research Paper
Countless news headlines refer to this flu season as deadly or the deadliest, lending to the destructive
nature of the 2018 flu activity. The worry and misery that a flu season can bring with it has certainly
surpassed that of the last few years. The high number of deaths is an alarming aspect of this flu season
and warrants the panic generated in the public. Its activity is so widespread, but it is still possible to
protect yourself and seek effective treatment if you become a casualty of the flu.
A H3N2 Strain
This season has witnessed the presence and impact that two flu strains, the A H1N1, and the A H3N2,
but it is the A H3N2 that is the main culprit guilty of causing the majority of influenza incidents this
season. The A H3N2 is noted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as being
linked to serious ailment in people over 65 and young kids, with at risk kids being those under the age
of 2. It is a rapidly mutating virus and is capable of evading vaccine, which is characterized as being
30% effective against the A H3N2 strain. This means that this virus is nastier, capable of sending more
people to the hospital, complicating underlying conditions, and causing more deaths.

Analysis Of The Book The Garden
For those who haven t learned the truth of what happened in the garden. It is a crucial teaching to learn
that makes the whole bible come more alive , among other teachings that aren t taught in your average
church
Let s go to Genesis and see what happened in the garden.
Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he
said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
You now know who this serpent is who was more subtle, meaning cunningly wise, than any beast of
the field, which means any other living, created being, human or otherwise! So the PICTURE you
now need to place in your mind is one of a very smart, good looking, handsome young man who is
very, very charming and likeable and intelligent and well spoken. Got it?
That old serpent has perpetuated a lie, a tradition, about the snake and the apple long enough. Do not
let him have the victory any more! Again, it is his diabolical plan to deceive a Biblically ignorant
people, because it ministers to the acceptance of his lie, the hiding of God s truth, the jeers of the
infidel, the opposition of the critics, and the stumbling of the weak in faith. (Companion Bible,
appendix 19, last paragraph.)
By the way, the apostle Paul also refers to this serpent in the garden in 2 Cor. 11:3:
2 Cor. 11:3
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be
corrupted

Analysis Of The Opening Scene Of Macbeth
Location: A forest or hill in Scotland
General Summary: The three witches meet on a stormy night out in the open country to discuss when
they should meet with Macbeth.
Analysis:
The opening scene of Macbeth is super short but it introduces the 3 most influential characters of the
play.
The witches presence in the play is very small but they remain a constant and a powerful beings
throughout.
This first scene establishes the witches connection to Macbeth. It makes the reader curious to discover
who he is and also what is the hurlyburly (I, i, 3) that the witches discussed.
Shakespeare creates dramatic irony, in that he informs the reader that Macbeth does not have and will
never have throughout the play a free action. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The witches refer to their two familiars, Graymalkin and Paddock .
The fact that they have familiars is enough to secure the reader s impression of them as witches.
Central Questions:
Why does Shakespeare open the play with the witches, rather than Macbeth?
How does this effect the first scene of the play?
What impressions can I as a reader take away from this? What effect does the way the witches speak
create?
Act I, Scene ii
Location: A soldier s camp
General Summary: King Duncan and his three sons are introduced. King Duncan hears from several
soldiers of Macbeth s bravery in battle and decides to make Macbeth Thane of Cawdor.
Analysis:
As the scene opens, the royal family meet a wounded officer and ask him for news of the battle.
Macbeth killed Macdonald.
The reader learns that Macbeth is related to King Duncan.
O valiant cousin! Worthy gentleman! (I, ii, 24). At this point, Macbeth is held in high regard by
Duncan.
Macbeth won against the attack of the Norwegian King.
The Thane of Cawdor has betrayed Duncan by fighting on the Norwegian side.
Characterisation: Macbeth is portrayed as a brave and loyal soldier. Duncan decides that the Thane of
Cawdor should be killed and that his title should be conferred upon Macbeth as a reward for his
courage and his loyalty.

In 1949 Alfred Jones created the first hedge fund in the United States with $100,000 and a strategy to
off set the riskiness of holding long position in stocks by shorting other stocks. Since then hedge funds
have grown to control over $2.4 trillion in assets in over 11,000 different funds. Today hedge funds
employ many different techniques and strategies to gain a positive return that actually do not involve
hedging but instead taking a more risky stance in the market to obtain higher returns. Hedge funds are
predominately funded by wealthy investors and pensions but does this mean that they are a safe
investment to make? If I had the ability to invest in a hedge fund I would decline to do so. My
reasoning for this is that while some risky investors believe the high risk high return, lack of
regulation, illiquidity, and fees associated are the advantages of hedge funds that allow them to
generate high returns, from a conservative investor viewpoint these are all disadvantages and risks that
aren t compensated for making investments in hedge funds an unwise decision.
The first advantage or disadvantage depending on your viewpoint is the high risk and high return
associated with hedge funds. Hedge funds allow investors opportunities to seek a return on investment

1960s Discoveries And Technology Essay
Discoveries, Inventions, and Technology
The 1960s was a decade where many Americas found a new life and way of living, it was the time of
the hippies, peace and love. It was also a time where many scientific and medical discoveries where
made, these discoveries have improved our everyday lives up to the date. During the sixties
technology advanced with satellites, video games, the Internet etc. and with these advances they have
changed our life style. Without the advance of the internet imagine how we would be today, nowadays
we use the internet for everything we do.
Some of the first discoveries during 1960s was the first ever successful kidney transplant between non
siblings performed in the state of California. This was a major advancement in history because no

No Exit
Hell. The four lettered word that trembles in the throats of men and children alike; The images of
suffering, flame pits and blood, the smell of burning flesh, the shrieking of those who have fallen from
grace. For centuries man has sought out ways to cleanse his soul, to repent for his sins and possibly
secure his passage into paradise, all evoked by the fear of eternal damnation and pain. The early 20th
century philosopher and existentialist writer Jean Paul Sartre saw life as an endless realm of suffering
and a complete void of nothingness. His pessimistic ideals of life followed through to his beliefs on
death, as death for him was a final nothingness. If death was a final nothingness, Sartre s view of hell

Common in all religions, sin exists almost as a written law. For Christians it exists in the Ten
Commandments, the seven deadly sins. For Buddhists, it is the crimes against karma. Sartre, however,
does not address what prerequisites his hell contains. By conventional standards, its seems that his
characters rightfully deserve to be placed in hell.
While Estelle s hands were tarnished with the murder of her own baby, both Garcin and Inez are
indirectly responsible for the death of those close to them. For Sartre, all three characters are pathetic
examples of humankind. Believing that human beings can never hope to understand why they are
here, Sartre, like many existentialists, believes that each individual must choose a goal and follow it
with passionate conviction, aware of the certainty of death and the ultimate meaninglessness of one s
life. Nonetheless, Estelle, Garcin and Inez all exist with no real purpose and therefore are damned to
suffer not only in their life, but their afterlife.
Garcin may have been the closest to following a goal, but his act of fleeing from revolution and his
cowardly death shows that he has no real passion. Estelle is the most superficial of the group, the one
with least conviction. She simply uses people to her pleasure and herself as the object of their desire.
Inez sees herself as a quot;damned bitch quot; and believes that she is in fact damned and belongs in
hell.

The Political Economy Model Of Migration Policy
Gary Freeman suggests the gap between rhetoric and reality is best described in a political economic
account of migration policy. The political economy model of migration is modelled on the interests of
three sets of rational actors: voters, organised groups and state actors who attempts to maximize their
individual goals subject to state interests in different contexts (Freeman, 2002). The first is post
industrial change, which suggests stances on immigration policy are better viewed as interests defined
by social groups (Freeman, 2002: 84). The second is the spatial account, where the population
compete for finite resources in densely settled areas exacerbated by strong advocates of immigration
in these locations, such as businesses which could help explain the gap between rhetoric and action.
The third is the international approach, where state protectionism regulates the trade of goods and
people. If immigration is economically beneficial to the state, it will continue regardless of public
sentiments. As social welfare effects are key determinants of a countries migration policy , if
migration stimulates the economy, it will have a positive impact on society (Freeman, 2002: 88).
Liberal and International Norms
Liberal norms influence policy outcomes. Hollifield is concerned with the political interests that drive
migration policy in the face of liberalism. [S]overeignty requires a degree of territorial closure , which

The Securitization Market and the Credit Crisis
Securitization
Traditionally banks funded their loans from deposits. But the us government found that they could not
keep pace with the demand for residential mortgages with this type of funding. Portfolios of
mortgages were created and cash flows (principal amount and interest payments) were packaged as
securities and sold to investors. Securitization allowed the banks to increase their lending faster than
their deposits were growing. The US government created Government National Mortgage Association
which protected the mortgage backed securities investors against defaults by borrowers. As the
securitization market developed investors became comfortable with the situations where there was no
guarantee against defaults by borrowers.
Asset backed securities (ABS)
It is a portfolio of income producing assets such as loans, lease or receivables and the cash flows from
these assets are then allocated to the tranches which is further divided i.e. the senior tranche, the
mezzanine tranche and the equity tranche. The senior tranche is for those investors who want to play
safe because they have first priority on the collateral in the event of default and that is why they are
highly rated, the mezzanine tranche contains moderate risk and the equity tranche is very risky.
Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDO)
It is so called because the pooled assets like mortgages, loans and bonds are essentially debt
obligations that serve as collateral in the event of default.

What Is It Like In The Eye Of A Tornado By Charles Bryant
The Eye of a Tornado In the article What is it like in the eye of a tornado? by Charles Bryant, the

tornado is a violent rotating column of air, in contact with the ground, either pendant from a
cumuliform cloud or underneath a cumuliform cloud, and often (but not always) visible as a funnel
cloud. Even though a tornado is extremely dangerous, there are two people who have entered the eye

The Theories And Interventions That Can Be Applied For The...
In considering this case and within the social work profession, there are many theories and
interventions that can be applied to the SRS s CPS program including: contingency, conflict
resolution, organizational, systems, and empowerment theories. These theories do not operate alone,
instead they are combined with one another. The conflict resolution theoretical approach will be
utilized through the task centered model with evidence of NASW s Code of Ethics, because this is
specific to this case. An ethical practitioner should be knowledgeable of these practices and evidence
that supports them (NASW, 2008).
Goal and Objectives
SRS s CPS program goal is to develop a new culture in the way employees deliver services. In order
to accomplish this goal, the CPS program s supervisors will need to focus on and complete two
objectives, which are to develop and implement a required CPS training for all employees on the new
model within three weeks and to develop and provide a training manual with HIPPA guidelines on
case scenarios when and when not to remove children from their homes in order to ensure more
consistent services at SRS within four weeks.
Approaches and Models for Intervention

centered model. CPS is in need of required trainings for employees to develop a new culture on how
to effectively deliver services. This case study illustrates how culture and change are

However, a poem could be written without personification and still be great. In this poem the speaker
states, season when the young buttercups and daisies climb up on the mulched bodies of their
forebears to wave their flags in the parade (1096). This stanza is personification because it talks about
the buttercups and daisies climbing up. This line of the poem also reminds the reader of soldiers
marching in a parade.
The speaker states something she had carried a long ways, but had no use for anymore, now that it had

Alexander Hamilton Impact On American Popular Culture
More than two centuries have passed since American icon, Alexander Hamilton, famously engaged his
political rival, Aaron Burr, in the fateful duel that ultimately cost him his life. Although the 12th day
of July 1804 robbed Hamilton of his last breath, it, more importantly, commenced an era of
remembrance and representation of his legacy in American popular culture that continues today. Most
interesting is the current heightened period of popularity Hamilton s legacy is experiencing now, 213
years after his violent death. From a massively popular Broadway musical (See Figure 1), adapted
from an equally renown historical biography (See Figure 2), as well as an HBO miniseries (See Figure

landscape over the last fifteen years.
This paper will explore Alexander Hamilton s resurgence into contemporary American popular culture
and the arguments surrounding the recent efforts to retell his story. While providing a summarized
view of the recently produced representations of Hamilton, this paper will additionally analyze the
historical accuracy of each product, and ultimately evaluate the impact each creation has had on

An Explanation Of Spiritual Vibrancy
It is a simple fact of life that one s hunger on any given day or time is not assuaged by singing praises
of a meal consumed a day or earlier, but rather it is satiated through availability of fresh meal at that
point in time. This verse uses this fact as an analogy to establish that spiritual vibrancy is only possible
through fresh spiritual nourishment provided by the Satguru or the Imam of the Time. Hence, the
faithful are urged to adore and venerate the incumbent Imam.
In the context of this verse, the term ūgīyo means ascendant or risen , as in sūraj ūgīyo (the sun has
risen). According to the Gujaratilexicon, one of the meanings of the word dhīyāīe is worship through
contemplation . Vāro in the second line means time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, this verse reinforces the pivotal Ismaili tenet of ḥāḍir (present) and mawjūd (living) Imam,
whose presence on the earth as the Saviour par excellence is an absolute necessity, according to the
Ginans. Hence, one of the recurring themes of this composition is the salvific and redemptive role and
function of the Satguru or the Imam. Shedding light on the central role of the ḥāḍir and mawjūd Imam
in the fulfillment of very raison d être of life on earth, Shafique Virani explains in his book, The
Ismailis in the Middle Ages:
In documents spanning the entire period of two hundred and fifty years after Alamut s fall to the
Mongols, we find an emphasis on the absolute and uncompromising necessity for a present (ḥāḍir) and
living (mawjūd) Imam, the manifest guide without whom the universe would simply cease to exist.
God s very purpose in creating the world was that humankind recognize him. However, in Ismaili
belief, God qua God is beyond any idea that the human intellect, in its imperfection, could possibly
conceive. Only the perfect intellect could lead the human intellect to recognize its Creator. Hence,
throughout the works of this period we find a common thread of utter and total devotion, affection,
love, and submission to the perfect

twenties because he brought up the fact that the government had trouble balancing their budget and
they were spending money they did not have to spend. And he also brought up that the reliance of
policy elites to prescribe social solutions. He thought that the percentage of GDP that the government

What Is The Theme Of All Quiet On The Western Front
All Quiet on the Western Front tells the story of the young Paul Bäumer, a man of 19 years who
enlisted with his classmates: Kropp, Müller, and Leer. Together with a few others, these men formed
the Second Company of the German Army. The story of these young men is a tragic one, full of few
laughs and many sorrows. Throughout the story, the author demonstrates the undying loyalty that
grows between the protagonist and his friends, specifically Kat, another member of the Second
Company. Also, the author gives readers a glimpse into the inner workings of a soldier s mind,
invoking a strong feeling of sympathy as Paul questions who he really is. The protagonist feels as
though he will never fit back into peacetime society, for he does not really have a life established in
his hometown. Paul is not the only soldier with emotional instability, Kropp showed signs of PTSD
early in the story (18.) Finally, the theme of loss is introduced early in the book, with the death of
Kemmerich, and is continued throughout the book. There were many main aspects throughout the
story. One of these aspects was the friendship of Kat and Paul. Even though, they were not classmates
they quickly became the closest of friends. For example, after Kropp and Tjaden were put into open
confinement, Kat asks Paul if he wants to roast a goose. Kat meticulously marked the point on the
map: a shack owned by the regimental headquarters, and after a bribe of 2 cigarettes to a munition
wagon driver, they were

  • 2. Gastrointestinal Tract Research Paper Abstract After entering the gastrointestinal tract on the way to their physiological site of infection, enteric bacteria encounter a remarkable diversity in environmental conditions. There are gross differences in the physico chemical parameters in different sections of the Gastrointestinal tract (GI) tract e.g. between the stomach, small intestine and large intestine. Furthermore, even within a certain anatomical site, there are subtle differences in the microenvironment e.g. between the lumen, mucous layer and epithelial surface. Enteric pathogens must not only survive passage through the rapidly changing environments encountered at different niches of the GI tract but must also appropriately coordinate expression of virulence determinants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Several studies have revealed pathogen specific responses to bile that alter the expression of virulence factors. When V. cholerae was grown in the presence of bile, expression of the essential virulence genes ctxAB and tcpA was drastically repressed [30]. Since bile is a heterogeneous mixture, crude bile was fractionated, and the components that mediate virulence gene repression were identified. It was shown that unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) present in bile, arachidonic, linoleic, and oleic acids were responsible for repression of ctxAB and tcpA genes [31]. However, expression of toxT encoding the direct transcriptional activator of ctxAB and tcpA was not affected and ToxT protein levels were similar between V. cholerae grown in the presence or absence of bile or UFAs [31]. Subsequently, the crystal structure of ToxT revealed that unsaturated fatty acids can bind to ToxT and keeps ToxT in a closed conformation that is not capable of binding DNA [32]. Hence ToxT cannot activate expression of ctxAB and tcpA in the presence of bile or UFAs and the genes continue to be repressed by H NS [33]. Bile also causes drastic repression of virulence genes in salmonellae. Salmonellae grown in the presence of bile demonstrated a marked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. False Perception Paper False Perception There are times when correlation between variables appears to present an obvious causal relationship, however, it is irresponsible for both researchers and the news media to produce predictions without looking for alternate factors. A good example is decades of reporting on the relationship between single mother households (independent variable) and rising crime rates (dependent variable). The preceding example was explored by Philip Cohen (2012) in his article on the single mom and murder rate relationship during the 1990s, in which he noted, I think single mothers especially those who were raising kids back in the 1990s deserve an apology from the conventional wisdom purveyors of that time (para. 2). Beginning with an exploration of the media s interpretation of this relationship, I will also further examine the correct interpretation, and the policy implications of Cohen s finding. The Media s Interpretation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sadly, it appears the media bought into an apparent epidemic and began to publish reports, perhaps driven by confirmation bias or simply failing to conduct enough investigation. The published reports in the 1990s cited the cause of rising crime rates as the rising amount of black households with single mothers that were unable to control their children, instill values, etc. (Cohen, 2012). While I believe it is not that farfetched to assume there is a relationship between family structure and the youths from those households committing crime, I also believe there are other factors involved that the media should have ... I did some research on the cases, and chose one that was similar to an experience I went through. My parents are currently separated, and my father simply refused to pay child support. He lives outside of the state, so it was hard for my mother to have face to face confrontation with him. She got tired of raising three kids on her own, and finally decided to take him to court. I was required to serve as a witness. This took place in 2009, so I was thirteen years old and didn t really understand much of what was going on. I timidly walked to the stand and was sworn in. Although I had arrived after the case had begun, I had a little bit of background knowledge and could easily follow what was going on. The case was between Joseph B. McCarthy and his ex wife, Annie J. Ashment McCarthy. Joseph was the defendant, and Annie was the plaintiff. Annie had a lawyer by her side, and Joseph stood alone. Annie s lawyer was Brad E. Macdonald. The defendant had failed to pay child support and owed his ex wife an arrearage of thirty thousand dollars. When I walked in, the defendant was seated on the stand, and he was telling the judge that he had filed for custody of his four children. As he was explaining why, Brad Macdonald, the ex wife s lawyer, objected. His reason for objecting was that the basis for filing was not relevant. I didn t know that lawyers were free to interrupt people on the bench while they were presenting their case. The judge sustained the objection, and the defendant continued to plead his case. I immediately noticed that the defendant didn t have a lawyer, and it shocked me because I don t usually hear of people successfully defending themselves in court. Before presenting his evidence, he asked the judge a question on how he was supposed to present it, and Judge Green responded by telling him that he had the opportunity to have a lawyer appointed for ... • 5. The Myths behind King Arthur King Arthur In this paper will be discussed the myths behind King Arthur. King Arthur was a British legend and over time the stories became a collection of stories written by different authors. King Arthur was actually a general in the fifth century that fought to keep Brittan a free paradise of the western hemisphere. With the different writers over the years writing about the great King Arthur the stories got distorted and became more of myth than that of truth of the real King Arthur. The first writings of King Arthur were around 830 by an author by the name of Nennius, according to the Britons. There are many writings in existence today, as many as 200 over King Arthur. Much of the myths of King Arthur and the legends of Merlin and Guinevere are what people read today. Much of these are myths and not actual facts, though all started out with the actual life facts of King Arthur from his birth in Tintagel to his death, they just got bent out of shape with the different writers over the years. King Arthur was actually Lucius Artorius Castus, Arthur s name was originally Artorius, a family name. This is where King Arthur became more of a myth than a real person. The myths became more widespread when the marriage of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine in France. This is where the more romantic and spiritual myths began about King Arthur. In this time the author Chretien de Troyes of the French court wrote about the Holy Grail. This is one of the first of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Peer Review The Devil s Advocate Peer Review: The Devil s Advocate The legal thriller directed by Taylor Hackford , The Devil s Advocate , cleverly has an entertaining morality play. This movie is not about being someone s Devil s Advocate but actually reflect the devil himself. The movie reviewed by my peer, Aastha Saluja, turns out to be charged heavily on moral and ethical questions and the review successfully brings out the relation of law and morality. The movie avoids clumsy moralization and old hat notions of good and evil. The review written by Aastha very well portrays the question whether winning is everything in the legal profession . He could quote the verses his mother referred to which can be seen in the very beginning of the movie when he finishes a verse referred by his mother. Throughout the movie he wrestles with his calling and his passion. This was not mentioned in her review. In this review she fails to connect the title The Devil s Advocate of the movie to what it actually means. According to me, the title has two aspects. First being the actual meaning of the word. Devil s advocate is a person appointed by the Roman Catholic Church to challenge a proposed beatification or canonization, or the verification of a miracle. Secondly, how the title indirectly talks about the Devil himself. This movie is about Satan and sin. This movie however does not laud sin but exposes it as the tools of a devious, fallen ... This battle also convinced the Lincoln administration and the North that the Civil War would last longer than they expected and would be consisting of bloodier fights costing many more lives. As a hearing person, you can hear all sorts of sounds, whether you want to or not however, deaf people do not get the same opportunities. Imagine watching a TV show, or a vine, or a movie and not being able to hear what the people are saying. How would you feel if you were only able to watch the people on screen and had to guess what was going on? What if you could not hear the surrounding noises? As a way to allow deaf people to fully understand what is happening on screen, closed captioning was created. Not all failures are bad. Some failures can create good ideas and great solutions to many different things. In 1970, the National Bureau of Standards and ABC TV tried an experiment. It will explore the challenges, as well as the luxuries, of being on this first manned mission to Mars. A crew of over 100 of the Earth s best scientists travel to a new world to explore and start a colony. This paper will follow closely with Elon Musk s current plan to put humans on Mars in the not so distant future, and will look into the advanced technologies developed for this purpose. A New World (Intro) There are many questions that need to be answered about how to successfully put humans on Mars and eventually colonize this new world. Yet there are also several new technological advances that have been made or are planned for the near future that will make this groundbreaking mission possible. Some of these critical questions that need to be answered include the following: How will humans have access to drinkable water on Mars? How will humans handle and adapt to a lower gravity environment? What kind of rocket will be used to send humans to Mars? When can we expect that technology to be ready? How is all of this technology supposed to work to put humans on Mars? By answering these questions, we will create a picture of what it will look like when humans finally make it to Mars and start to colonize that new world. Before we dig into the details of the technology, it is important to first ask, why should humans go to Mars? What do we gain from going to Mars? Many scientists have a ... Bangla is a complicated script and it needs rigorous investigations to implement a better recognition system. While we have sophisticated classifiers like Hidden Markov Models or BLSTM Neural Networks for recognition of complicated scripts, we have very little comparative studies about the appropriate feature sets for such scripts. In this paper, our aim is to implement an appropriate recognition system for author independent unconstrained Bangla word where a modified feature set is proposed. To construct the modified feature set, we modify existing feature sets and add new features for improvement of recognition accuracy. We test performances of various existing feature sets and proposed feature set on same Bangla dataset for fair comparison and report the comparative results using various lexicons upto 20,000 word lexicon. Each time an HMM based classifier is used to test the feature set. Finally, a recognition system is built over the combination of existing and modified feature sets. I believe this aspect has an important role to play in the overall educational experience of students. Diversity has many forms such as gender, race or ethnicity, nationality or place of origin, disability, etc. When students interact with fellow students who are different from them, they learn to value and respect differences. I feel it helps in developing students who are more open to new ideas and willing to experiment. Ultimately, this creates a more tolerant society. Growing up in India surrounded by cultures different from my own, I was encouraged to value both the commonalities and differences of the human experience. The Relation Between Premarital Cohabitation and Divorce Rates Shalene Gerritsen University of Nebraska Introduction to Sociological Research November 18, 2014 Many couples find themselves cohabiting today because it is cheaper and more convenient while others take it as a step forward in their committed relationships. Regardless of reason cohabiting has become a union of choice. In recent years cohabitation has transformed from an act of deviance to a norm in many societies. We will be focusing on how time and social change determines cohabitation and divorce. Waal (2008) predicts that there will be 2.93m cohabiting couples by 2021 (p. 47). This would be a 90% increase in the past 25 years. Cohabiting couples have become more common due to the increase in social acceptance. An article in the New York Times (2012) contributes the increase to the sexual revolution and the availability of birth control. Theory and Research Question The relation between cohabitation and divorce rates can also be explained through the use of Deviance. Deviance is a theory in which a society views an action as unacceptable (William and Thorton 2014). Cohabitation has transferred from being deviant to a social norm in past years. Those who cohabit are no longer a minority. For this reason the Deviance Theory is a possible explanation as to why there has been a shift in the relation between premarital cohabitation and divorce rates. We question the relation between premarital cohabitation and divorce. From looking at literature regarding this question I hypothesize that time and social change determines cohabitation and divorce. Methods. The qualitative method proposed for gathering data is a longitudinal cohort study. Participants in the study include couples who have been married in the year 2015. The participants will include 20 couples from each of the 50 states. 10 of the couples will have cohabited prior to marriage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Positive And Negative Effects Of The Cold War On Liberia The Cold War; tension between the world s greatest superpowers, the United States, a democracy, and the Soviet Union, a communist nation after WWII. This event caused both positive and negative effects on Liberia, although they were not directly involved, they were very much impacted from the relationship they had with the United States. Although there were both positive and negative impacts on Liberia from the Cold War, the negative impacts largely outweighed the positive. The Cold War contributed to many positive opportunities for Liberia. Since the first settlers in Liberia were free African American slaves, the U.S and Liberia had a longstanding relationship. In 1942 Pan Am built an airport in Liberia to make it easier for U.S soldiers to reach Northern Africa and Southern Europe as they were fighting in the Cold War. Not only did this help the U.S soldiers more easily prevent Soviet influence in these countries, but it also created the first modernized piece of transportation in the country of Liberia. The Liberian president at the time, William Tubman was very pro American and followed in the footsteps of U.S ideology. From the U.S point of view during the Cold War having a country on their side meant they had to do what they could to keep that country on their standing. So, in 1959 the U.S allowed the Liberian military to train with them and created a mutual defense pact with the country. • 24. No Exit Hell. The four lettered word that trembles in the throats of men and children alike; The images of suffering, flame pits and blood, the smell of burning flesh, the shrieking of those who have fallen from grace. For centuries man has sought out ways to cleanse his soul, to repent for his sins and possibly secure his passage into paradise, all evoked by the fear of eternal damnation and pain. The early 20th century philosopher and existentialist writer Jean Paul Sartre saw life as an endless realm of suffering and a complete void of nothingness. His pessimistic ideals of life followed through to his beliefs on death, as death for him was a final nothingness. If death was a final nothingness, Sartre s view of hell was really a final ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Common in all religions, sin exists almost as a written law. For Christians it exists in the Ten Commandments, the seven deadly sins. For Buddhists, it is the crimes against karma. Sartre, however, does not address what prerequisites his hell contains. By conventional standards, its seems that his characters rightfully deserve to be placed in hell. While Estelle s hands were tarnished with the murder of her own baby, both Garcin and Inez are indirectly responsible for the death of those close to them. For Sartre, all three characters are pathetic examples of humankind. Believing that human beings can never hope to understand why they are here, Sartre, like many existentialists, believes that each individual must choose a goal and follow it with passionate conviction, aware of the certainty of death and the ultimate meaninglessness of one s life. Nonetheless, Estelle, Garcin and Inez all exist with no real purpose and therefore are damned to suffer not only in their life, but their afterlife. Garcin may have been the closest to following a goal, but his act of fleeing from revolution and his cowardly death shows that he has no real passion. Estelle is the most superficial of the group, the one with least conviction. She simply uses people to her pleasure and herself as the object of their desire. • 25. The Political Economy Model Of Migration Policy Gary Freeman suggests the gap between rhetoric and reality is best described in a political economic account of migration policy. The political economy model of migration is modelled on the interests of three sets of rational actors: voters, organised groups and state actors who attempts to maximize their individual goals subject to state interests in different contexts (Freeman, 2002). The first is post industrial change, which suggests stances on immigration policy are better viewed as interests defined by social groups (Freeman, 2002: 84). The second is the spatial account, where the population compete for finite resources in densely settled areas exacerbated by strong advocates of immigration in these locations, such as businesses which could help explain the gap between rhetoric and action. The third is the international approach, where state protectionism regulates the trade of goods and people. If immigration is economically beneficial to the state, it will continue regardless of public sentiments. As social welfare effects are key determinants of a countries migration policy , if migration stimulates the economy, it will have a positive impact on society (Freeman, 2002: 88). Liberal and International Norms Liberal norms influence policy outcomes. Hollifield is concerned with the political interests that drive migration policy in the face of liberalism. But the us government found that they could not keep pace with the demand for residential mortgages with this type of funding. Portfolios of mortgages were created and cash flows (principal amount and interest payments) were packaged as securities and sold to investors. Securitization allowed the banks to increase their lending faster than their deposits were growing. The US government created Government National Mortgage Association which protected the mortgage backed securities investors against defaults by borrowers. As the securitization market developed investors became comfortable with the situations where there was no guarantee against defaults by borrowers.
