Greek God Apollo Research Paper
Greek God Apollo Research Paper I guess darkness serves a purpose: to show us that there is
redemption through chaos. I believe in that. I think that s the basis of Greek mythology , Brendan
Fraser once said about the idea of all Greek Gods and myths. The people of ancient Greece would
look up to various gods, depending on what they were seeking. Apollo s name translates to strength ,
as he displayed this trait throughout his lifetime and had to be emotionally and physically stronger at
times for the people of Ancient Greece. Apollo was a man of trust who excelled and supported all of
the fine arts of the Greek civilization such as music, art, and poetry (God Apollo). One of the most
underestimated traits of Apollo was his healing powers, in which he helped out many Greeks in
desperate times, like the Trojan War (Cartwright). The Greek God Apollo was the most influential
among Greek people because of his recognition for music, the truth, and healing powers. Apollo was
born on the Greek island of Delios, from his parents Zeus and Leto (Regula). Zeus was the god of the
Olympians who also controlled lightning and thunder, and Leto was the goddess of motherhood
(Atsma). Apollo was a god who had a clear idea of what was right from wrong and lived with the idea
of that the Greek society could live under peace and harmony and follows the laws that were put into
motion, especially after the Trojan War (The Story of Apollo). Apollo demonstrated importance to the

Fairness Is An Umbrella Term For Monetary Income, Deferred...
When determining pay various factors contribute in the negotiations leading to the resulting payment;
in order to ground the discussion it must be understood that pay is an umbrella term for monetary
income, deferred payments, non monetary rewards and other fringe benefits (Dale Olsen, 2006).
Whereas fairness holds no single definition but is described as a social rather than a psychometric
concept, it is in the eye of the beholder and subjectively defined (Aguinis, et al., 2010, p. 649). Despite
the lack of consensus regarding its definition; in the real word negotiations of pay there is an
overwhelming importance emphasised on fairness which is itself affected by internal and external
influences (Rees, 1993). This essay will analyses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory has been criticised as it fails to account for the imperfect market in which it is applied and
mistakenly claims workers to be homogeneous. The development of Human Capital Theory
internalises these criticisms and acknowledges the influences that education and qualifications have on
the supply and demand of a particular jobs moving the pay equilibrium differently than previously
thought. The employment contract and pay terms do not merely represent an economical but also a
social relationship. Therefore both theoretical explanations must be analysed interdependently to
produce a real world explanation of pay differentials acknowledging that no single factor determines
pay, instead a collection of factors do. Which are complex due to the open ended nature and unique
format of the employment contract; pay is unilaterally decided but negotiated by several actors
(Bryson Forth, 2006). Because there are several actors involved in determining pay it becomes further
complicated by the socially constructed nature of fairness, which has been normalised in vocabulary
but no one is willing or able to pinpoint its definition (Hyman, 1974, p. 176). This has resulted in
different understandings of fairness being held by those involved, all of which must be considered
when determining pay in order to

Different Types Of Polygons By Nancy Tobin Capture The...
This book introduces different types of polygons through objects we find around us everyday. Shape
Up! uses cheese slices, pretzel sticks, a slice of bread, a pencil, and more to introduce various
polygons, flat shapes with varying numbers of straight sides. Children can learn simple geometry with
this playful but informative math concept book that takes the fear out of math and puts the fun back in.
There s a wisecracking cartoon kid who accompanies readers throughout and makes silliness and math
seem to go together like pretzels and salt. It s a tremendous learning package that will be as pleasing
to math teachers as it is to the kids who will probably discover this book on their own. The
illustrations by Nancy Tobin capture the reader s eye with her colorful and aesthetically appealing
pictures.
I believe this book will be very affective because it gets children involved with geometry first hand
and lets them find shapes, not just in food, but where ever they go. Using healthy foods to learn
geometry will also develop an interest in trying new things as well. Learning shapes through an
interactive activity will help them develop a relationship with finding shapes and problem solving
without even realizing it! Developing a fun activity with a lesson engages students and captures their
full attention.
1st Day Read the book aloud and distinguishes the shapes that were discussed in the book.
2nd Day Students will pair up and develop a scavenger hunt list of the shapes

Contradicting Climate Change
unwarranted doubt contradicting the scientific opinion on climate change, including the extent to
which it is caused by humans, its impacts on nature and human society, or the potential of adaptation
to global warming by human actions. Although scientific opinion on climate change is that human
activity is likely to be the primary driver of climate change, the politics of global warming have been
affected by climate change denial, hindering efforts to prevent climate change and adapt to the
warming climate. There are a few central biological processes that we must understand to recognize
how humans are causing climate change. The carbon cycle is a pivotal process of climate change.

Hands by Sherwood Anderson Literary Analysis Essay

Literary Analysis on Hands by Sherwood Anderson The short story Hands by Sherwood Anderson is
one of the twenty two stories in the book Winesburg, Ohio. This story specifically focuses on the
psychological trauma of a teacher after being falsely accused of molesting his male students. This
alone brings up the topics of homosexuality and sex, which was considered scandalous at the time it
was published in 1919.Although this is true, it did not stop the public from finding this piece of
literature as fascinating. In Hands, Anderson s form of symbolism, narration, and themes are what
make this piece modern and unique. Anderson s use of symbolism to help convey the meaning of the
story is what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he was confused about what happened, he was sure of one thing and that was that the hands
must be to blame (252). Wing perceives his hands as a symbol of his perceived guilt, or a
manifestation of his fears. They symbolize critical turning points in his life, good and bad. He makes
them the core of his actions and who is, allowing them to take control of his life. By personifying
Wing s hands, Anderson makes the consequences of their actions the focus point of the story.
An important aspect as to why this story was so well written was because of Anderson s choice of
narration. The point of view that Anderson uses in Hands can be identified as third person limited.
Third person limited is a method of storytelling in which the narrator knows only the thoughts and
feelings of a single character, while other characters are only presented externally. Although it is told
in third person, at one point the narrator is speaking directly to the reader, just like its done in the
tradition of oral story telling, this brings the reader into the creation of the story. Twice in the story the
narrator says that both the teller of the story and the listener, in this case, the reader, have to become
poets, Let us look briefly into the story of hands. Perhaps our talking of them will arouse the poet who
will tell the hidden wonder... (251). In the beginning of the story the narrator

Witchcraft Hysteria
There were many significant factors that came into play at the time of the Salem witchcraft hysteria.
Of the numerable amount of factors that contributed to the hysteria the most influential were religion,
superstition, politics, economics, and concepts of gender during this time period. People during the
1600 s lacked a basic understanding of how things around them worked compared to what is known
and generally accepted in today s world of science. For this sole reason the concept of magic and
witchcraft was widely and generally accepted by a large majority of the population during this time
period. People often used false accusations of witchcraft against their neighbors because it gave them
a simple way to steal another person s land. Women were also not trustworthy sources.
Religion played the most crucial role in the development of the witch hysteria. Residents in the town
of Salem were Puritans, which meant they were very immoderate in their beliefs.
Puritans believed their life purpose was to serve God, which meant vanquishing evil even if there was
no evil present. The average lifestyle of a Puritan was monotonous and dull; they believed life was
meant to be simple, and any spare time should have been spent serving God. Puritans strived to
exterminate any presence of the Devil or evil they could find so they could pursue their quest of being
worthy of being saved by their God. Puritans looked down to people that did not serve God the same
way that they did, and they

Neonatal Nursing Career
It has always been a dream of mine to pursue a career as a Neonatal Nurse. I chose this career because
my love for babies/infants started out at a young age, and as I developed in school, I learned that I
have a passion for science and the medical field. Although this career is known to be more rigorous, I
believe the rewards outweigh the challenges. Neonatal nurses work with newborn babies that were
born with a variety of problems ranging from premature birth, cardiac malformations, not being fully
developed, and more. These nurses also work with the families of the babies in comforting and
educating the parents as to what to expect and how to properly care for their baby. The environment is

Jonesboro or Conway to finish my education. I am also very interested in two really good programs

Implementation Of Characters And Platform Design
Implementation characters platform design Most of the detached body and platform elements were
imported through asset store of Unity and the rest of them were found online, which saves lots of time
for us in preparation phase. We designed totally three characters by splicing all the individual parts of
the body then created 4 animations, running, jumping, standing and idly for each. The most important
part when doing this is setting the layers and the hierarchical structure of parts of the body to be more
lifelike according to the real physical model. Similarly, the animations of each character meet the
needs of actions in game time. Figure 3 places the basic profile of characters we designed. Figure 3.
Character profiles After the preparation of characters, the phase coms to the platform design. The main
platform contains 5 main layers laying out the players, background, UI, front ground and tiles. With
distinguished layers of the objects in scenes, we could use camera s culling mask to render objects or
write special events for certain layers. For example, background layer is for the basic background of
the platform while front ground is the front landscape up forward the players and tiles. There all the
objects placed in the scenes are just for normal pass mode because the platform for this mode is fixed
since the difficulty of each level should be increasing with certain level design. First, we edited the
segment items and merged then into single object which can be

John Watson and Classical Conditioning
In psychology, respondent behavior is behavior learned through classical conditioning. This type of
learning is defined as a way in which one learns to link two or more stimuli while also anticipating
events; or other wise, known as a kind of learning that occurs when a conditioned stimulus is paired
with an unconditioned stimulus. While classical conditioning was accidently discovered by Ivan
Pavlov, John B. Watson was interested in taking Pavlov s experiences a bit further. Watson s ultimate
goal was to research how classical conditioning could be seen through humans and not just through
animals. An in depth look on John Watson s actual experiment can be better explained and found in
the article titled, The Little Albert Experiment on
http://psychology.about.com/od/classicpsychologystudies/a/little albert experiment.htm.
John Watson s Contribution
Classical conditioning is identified as the type of learning where the nature of the research conditions
a fear response to the subject being experimented on. An implication of the research for human
behavior involving conditioned fear response would describe how a child might be afraid of storms
because of the partnership between the storm and the sound of the loud thunder. This being said, John
B. Watson wanted to further explain this reasoning of classical conditioning through his own
experiment that many people call The Little

Special Registration Report
Such violations of human rights have not only taken place in the international arena, but also at the
domestic level as well. After the events of 9/11, the US saw a sharp increase in discriminatory racial
profiling and restriction of civil liberties for its citizens (Welch, 2004, pp 5). An example of this can be
seen with the Special Registration Program issued by the Justice Department in 2002 that applied to
non immigrant male visitors from certain countries that were associated with terrorism. The program,
also known as the Domestic Call in Registration, has involved policies such as fingerprinting,
photographing and the interviewing of more than 46,000 students, tourists and businessmen. Further
investigation into the policy has concluded that the program was characterised by cultural insensitivity
and unprofessional conduct (Welch, 2004, pp 6). I would also note that the government is yet to

Through a number of laws aimed largely at deterrence after the 9/11 attacks, such as instituting severe
penalties for aircraft hijacking, the US government has helped protect American citizen s rights to life
and property. For example, in 1973 legislation was introduced that made boarding gate security
measures mandatory throughout America and as a result, US hijack attempts dropped from 31 to 3 and
3500 pounds of high explosives, 2000 guns and 23,000 knives and other lethal weapons were found
(Wilkinson, 2006, pp 128). Although such legislation was put in place before the War on Terror,
similar legislation has been passed post 2001 and so the findings can be extrapolated to suggest that
stricter security measures employed in the War on Terror have helped to protect civilians from further
attack and in turn protect their basic human rights such as the right to

How Race And Stereotype Can Affect Justice Being Served
. This play takes place in 1963, the year in which the Civil Rights movement was being fought for.
The main topic of this play is to understand how race and stereotype can affect justice being served,
and the only way around this would be to view facts and override race and stereotype with evidence.
The play beings in New York City in a jury room, there are 12 jurors and each of them seem very
flustered, not only because its hot and the fan won t work, but because the trial seems to almost be a
waste of time for these twelve people. We learn the case they are dealing with is between a son and his
father; the son supposedly stabbed and killed his father. The father and the son live near the slums
which is where colored people live. Almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this juror is puzzled at first he ends up growing confident in his vote and finds many facts to
back him up. In one incident he asks juror number two and juror number four who have glasses if they
sleep with their glasses on. They giggle and reply with no they do not sleep with their glasses on. Well
he uses this because the lady who witnessed the murder wore glasses, and in order for her to have
clearly been able to see the murder she would have to have her glasses on while she was in bed; since
that is when she witnessed the murder. Little by little the other jurors change their vote from guilty to
not guilty. And in the end justice is served and the boy is found not guilty. Juror number eight played
by Cameron Needham is key to this story because he is the one who is the only one with a vote not
guilty at first, and without him the boy would be found guilty. Juror number eight is very hesitant at
first when raising his hand to vote not guilty he raises it fairly slow as if scared of what the others
might think. As the play continues he is constantly on his feet and has his hands in his pockets most of
the time. This gesture of his hands in his pockets seems as if he is trying to protect himself from the
other jurors. Also, juror number eight being on his feet seems to show that he is nervous because he is
never in the same place for a long period of time. When the other jurors ask him questions or state
facts, he looks into their

Book Of Genesis Essay
In the Book of Genesis the power of God is shown throughout many stories of Genesis from God
creating the world to God almost destroying it as well. For example some stories where God shows his
power are the story of creation, the Flood, Sodom Gomorah, barren women, angels sent, and Tower of
Babel destroyed. The prime examples of God using his power in the Book of Genesis are the barren
woman, story of creation The barren women story showed how God can use his powers to help
people, for good. Sarah was the barren woman and wife of Abraham. Abraham is a patriarch and the
father of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. God promised them that they would have a son who would
bless the world, but Sarah was getting old and became barren. God told Sarah that she would be the
mother of the child of promise, she responded in laughter. The same time next year Isaac was born
(Gen. 18:13 14). This shows that nothing is too difficult for God, God can use his powers to help a

The Truth About War Revealed in the Film, The Thin Red Line
Terrence Malick s The Thin Red Line (1998) is a film that examines the Guadalcanal Battle of World
War II, looking past the physical results of the violence, in order to uncover the deeper truths and
ramifications of war. The film conveys themes and ideologies that are somewhat uncommon to war
films, especially WW II films. In this dark, surreal, journey, Malick takes us inside the minds of
soldiers experiencing this battle to capture a remote pacific island from the Japanese. We do not hear
or see gruff, hardened soldiers, anxious to die for their country. In fact, there are no heroes in The Thin
Red Line. There are only regular men, scared of fighting and scared of dying, ... Show more content

The film is certainly an anti war film, but it does not place blame. It merely accepts that there is war,
and comments on the effects of it, letting our emotional and mental response do the rest. It examines
war not through the battles and through the violence, but through the emotions of the soldiers.
Geoffrey Macnab, another reviewer of the film, agrees. He states that ìIn The Thin Red Line, the battle
scenes merely provide the backdrop to Malickís inquiries into military behavior and the nature of evil.
(Macnab 54). Voice overs throughout the film allow us to get into the heads of these men. One soldier
prays while another man day dreams about his wife in the U.S. One soldier, after standing among the
remains of dozens of dead bodies after his company has taken a Japanese stronghold, reflects on how
the bodies have become no different than those of ìdead dogs.î War, then, becomes an unnatural force.
It becomes a force that drives regular men to suppress their natural, human feelings. If it were not for
this war, men would not have to convince themselves that dead bodies are no different than dead dogs,
and men would not have to contemplate about whether or not they can kill another man.
During The Thin Red Line, the island of Guadalcanal becomes a metaphor for natural purity, and is
constantly contrasted with the violence that has invaded its serenity. Malick shot the film with special

Bill Corbett Public Relations Essay
According to a study by Media Dynamic, the typical adult is inundated with around 360 messages
each and every day. These messages are sent through magazines, newspapers, internet, radio and TV.
This leads to a crowded marketplace, where businesses have to make a big impression just to be
noticed. Bill Corbett, Jr. who is the president of Corbett Public Relations talks about how this crowded
market place has grown exponentially: In the 1980s and 1990s, advertisers needed to be in front of
prospects six to eight times to be recognizable. Today, this number is closer to 21 and may be even
higher. So, how do you stand out amongst all this noise? The following are a few ways to ensure you

you command respect and the attention of the people in a room or organization. Successful leaders
who empower others are even more memorable. Being a memorable person doesn t always mean to
try the hardest. It means you make a difference. David Sturt who is the vice present of O.C. Tanner

Descriptive Essay On Ballet Slippers
The young, fashionable man contrasted starkly against other High Ground patrons, who were nearly
all dressed casually. However, this casual clothing took different forms; from the woman in the casual
dress to the outdoorsy looking man, there were many variations on casual wear. For example, there
was one young woman in the line who was wearing the same shorts and a tee combination as many
other patrons. Hanging off the back of her backpack were a pair of pink leather shoes, soft and supple,
with worn pads on the bottom where the material was gathered in from the top. They were hooked
onto her backpack with a carabiner through the criss crossed elastic bands which pulled the two sides
of the shoe together. Through iconic reasoning, I recognized them as ballet slippers. This lead me to
assume that this young woman was a dancer, coming from or going to class or rehearsal. This
indexical assumption was based on my recognizing the ballet slippers and understanding what ballet
slippers are generally used for, as well as knowing that rarely, if ever, someone would hang a pair of
well used ballet slippers off of their backpack as a sort of fashion statement. After mentally cataloging
the woman in the summer dress, the hiker, the fashionable young man, and now the ballerina based on
clothes and accessories, I tried to find a sign that was not clothing. I noticed the young woman at the
table next to mine, who was industriously typing away on her laptop, referring every now and

Summary Of God, The Founding Fathers, And The Making Of A...
In American Gospel: God, the Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation, Jon Meacham explores
the dynamic relationship between religion and government in America in the hope that contemporary
America can learn from the past. The period covered by the book spans from 1620 until Reagan s
presidency in the late 1980s. However, Meacham focuses on the Founding Fathers stances and their
continued impact on American politics. More specifically, the book details the conflict over the
separation of private religious expression and the more neutral public religion .
One of Meacham s main purposes in writing the American Gospel is to correct common
misconceptions of both secularists and evangelists in addition to moderates. In doing so, he quotes ...

Although, Meacham notes that it was an excuse to search for gold in a new land as Virginia s charter
instructed the settlers to search for all Manners of Mines of Gold, Silver, and Copper. Only 3% of that
charter was about God (61). While the Spanish went to great lengths to convert the natives of Mexico,
the English did not. Meacham mentions the criminal treatment of Native Americans perhaps three
times and implies that religion was a factor (65). Nonetheless, he does not linger on the topic and
provides no specific details. This is rather surprising considering his description of Andrew Jackson s
era as a time of religious revival and growing nationalism (141). A time during which Jackson signed
the Indian Removal Act and his successor Martin Van Buren authorized the forced removal of the
Cherokee people from their native lands in what became known as The Trail of Tears. Yet Meacham
ignores this completely while instead comparing Jackson s stance on religion and government to that
of Thomas Jefferson. Similarly to his discussion of Native Americans, Meacham classifies the
religious and cultural implications for the faiths and customs of those brought here in bondage as
largely overlooked, but fails to expand upon the topic of African American slavery and its effects

Carmen And Rogelio Quotes
It all started on January 12, 2001 when Carmen went to a party with some friends. One of Carmen s

The Problem Of Poverty And Homelessness
I argue that Charlie is wrong in this thinking. The notion that he is raising is exactly the type of selfish
and closed minded way of thinking that sets back the progress in solving the issue of poverty and
homelessness in America. In fact, a study taken in 2015 gathered that with more interaction and
willingness to help the homeless, the more empathy and compassion is gained for them, later resulting
in a larger contribution from society creating a social change. I obtained this information based on a
survey taken by Lindsay Phillips, a physiologist, that took it upon herself to ask working,
undergraduate college students to describe their perceptions of homelessness, willingness to get
involved, and ideas towards a solution. In this survey it is found that a good majority of people do see
a problem of homelessness and poverty, and are willing to do their part in order to help. In addition, it
was found that by volunteering to make a change, the stigma of social distance between the homeless
and the general public gradually shortens. This is said in the survey report stating, Findings seem to
indicate that it may be possible to demonstrate stigma toward a population, yet still have a desire to
help that population (as indicated by participants seeing the validity of a number of solutions to
homelessness and because 82.61% of participants expressed willingness to volunteer to help this
population)...For example, results indicated that very few participants would remain

Analysis On Desert Valley s Budget Adjustment
INTERNAL MEMO TO: Marcus Chelford, Ted Amero, and Fernando Lapan FROM: Li Chan, CPA
DATE: December 2, 2014 SUBJECT: Activity 2A Budget Adjustment The purpose of this memo is to
describe the impact of the change in commodity prices on Desert Valley s budget and suggest ways to
mitigate this threat. We conducted some sensitivity analysis on Desert Valley s budget to determine the
expected impact of a 2% increase in the price of malt barley and wheat grain. This is especially
important given the fact that customers are not willing to increase prices to compensate for the rising
cost of these commodities. This puts pressure on Desert Valley to absorb these price shocks and still
meet its other financial objectives. As one would expect, a 2% increase on direct materials will lead to
an increase in variable costs and in turn, a decrease in profits and contribution margin. The budget
impact of this change equates to ($73,322) which represents a (1.06%) hit to profits and a (0.86%)
change in contribution margin. This shows that at this point, small percentage changes in commodity
prices have a relatively minor impact on the company s financial position. However, if commodity
prices continue to fluctuate further or if production volumes increase then this may become a more
prevalent issue. To mitigate the risk of future commodity price changes it is recommended that Desert
Valley adopt a hedging program by purchasing forward contracts. This would allow the company to

Daniel Kahneman
In 2002, psychologist Daniel Kahneman won the Nobel Prize in economics. In the early 1970s,
Kahneman and Amos Tversky set out to disassemble an entity of economic theorists, Homo
economicus. Kahneman s main focus was human irrationality. In his career there were three important
phases. At first he and Tversky did a series of experiments in which revealed twenty or more cognitive
biases. They defined these as unconscious errors of reasoning that distort judgment. Characteristically
paired with cognitive biases were anchoring effects which are the tendencies to be influenced by
irrelevant numbers we are exposed to. In the second phase of his career, he and Tversky showed that

He theorized experienced well being compared to remembered well being which is the way that most
researchers relied on to explain happiness. From this he discovered that experienced happiness was
caused by different things that caused remembered happiness. The main component in remembered
happiness dealt with the duration. Commonly in memory a person can remember a situation in which
they were supposedly happy in that moment when it turns out when they remember it they were not.
For example a surprise guest shows up to a person s house that day. In the moment they are delighted
to see that person. But later on when reflecting on that day the person may realize that the surprise
visitor actually messed up their plans for the day which makes them upset. Though much more
research is needed in hedonic psychology, Kahneman s concepts have laid the foundation for the

Disadvantages Of Deep Learning
Deep Learning which developed as a Machine Learning approach has become very popular nowadays.
It helps in dealing with complex problem with a greater understanding. Traditional Machine Learning
model used to solve problems successfully where final output was a simple function of input data,
whereas Deep Learning can capture composite relations. Deep Learning is basically learning data
representations which is all about making things and presenting to real audiences. In order to master
the various aspects of Deep Learning one requires proficiency of core academic content, critical
thinking, analytical thinking and self directed learning. It consists of mathematical models, which can
be termed as composition of same type of functions wherein some of the functions can be changed so

Some of these models need input parameter from the user, thus are heuristically designed and hence
performance might depend on characteristic of parameters and input image. Some of the new learning
based methods overcome above problems and give solutions to complex problems. It is for this reason
that deep neural networks have recently seen an impressive comeback. CNN (Convolutional Neural
Network) used in Deep learning for image restoration, works by averaging out the output of various
trained network to the same input. Neural Networks have numerous application in several areas of
image processing. It is used for classifying the image and the mathematical analysis of CNN operates
feature extraction first and then give the results to trainable classifier. This model works by training
the network to reconstruct high quality images from degraded or blurred input images. The model
gives promising results from the learned set of denoisers and also can be used for low level

Gender Roles And Social Issues In The Post-WWII Era
Every post war era in United States history is composed of a period of social revolution. Ideas about
gender roles and economic class change as the country attempts to redefine itself and its morals in the
wake of a devastating conflict. Although the Great Depression was fifteen years removed from the
First World War, social issues of the time resemble the same issues that were pertinent in the
immediate post war era as well as American issues in the post WWII era. In a lot of ways, they are still
the issues we are facing nearly a century later. Many women were forced to work during the war to
supplement their husband s income while he was deployed overseas but when he returned, their help
was no longer needed or desired. When the Great Depression hit in 1929, women who were still in the
workplace or who sought jobs so that they could feed their families faced accusations that their
position in the workplace were preventing men from obtaining jobs for their families. When the
Depression ended and the United States became involved in World War II, women were again forced
to work to supplement their husbands income, and yet again expected to leave the workforce when
men returned home from war. During the time period from 1932 1945, social issues were addressed in
film as both a moral boost during hard times and a criticism of society. Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933)
boosted the moral of moviegoers during the Great Depression with its flashy costumes and dreams of

Proximate Analysis Of The Coal The Moisture Content Essay
Proximate Analysis In proximate analysis of the coal the moisture content, ash, the volatile matter, and
the fixed carbon in the coal sample is determined. It is the most common simplest form of coal
evaluation. Moisture Moisture occurs in Various forms Within the Coal: Surface or Free Moisture: the
moisture produced on the surface of coal particles Or Inherent Moisture: the moisture produced by
capillary action within the pores of coal. Decomposition Moisture: the moisture produced from the
thermal decomposition of organic constituents of coal. Mineral moisture: the moisture which
comprises part of hydrous silicates such as clays and inorganic materials in coal. There a re different
tests to determine the moisture content of coal. In proximate analysis of moisture the total or residual
moisture content of coal is determined. The total moisture content includes the surface and inherent
moisture and is reported as mass percentage of coal on received basis. Residual moisture determines
the moisture content of an air dried sample of coal. The determination of moisture depends on the
extent of sample preparation and the condition of the coal sample. The whole procedure for
determining the total moisture in coal, begins after collecting the gross sample, begins with preparing
the sample for analysis. If the sample is sufficiently dry, it can be reduced immediately and then air
dried. If the sample is too wet that it

Intentional Animal Abuse
Animal Abuse The shocking number of animal abuse cases reported every day is nothing compared to
most of those which are never reported. Cases of animal abuse are not compiled by the state or federal

much it actually happens. Information available to us can help us better understand and prevent cases
of abuse against animals. They re all special and talented in their own way. Animals should not be

Character Analysis Of King Kong
King Kong is exciting screenplay that does a great job at demonstrating what the characters are
feeling. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and makes it
relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s motives, and
gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such as King Kong,
one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While writers do an overall
great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love story between Darrow
and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between Darrow and Driscoll in the
beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it challenging to care about their
relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that shows does a great job at showing
what the characters are feeling throughout.
Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is feeling
at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the characters, and
understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the ship crew approach
Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers describe this thick fog that
the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates imagery to describe the dark and
eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog, they start to become afraid, as they
fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is when one of the ship crew members
Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re going (49)! Panic and terror possess the
characters, and the writers do a great of showing it.
The writers do a great job with the development of King Kong and making him a complex character.
At first, King Kong appears to be the stereotypical monster/villain that only kills and destroys, but
later in the story, King Kong shows a different side of him that a character such as himself usually
does not display. A moment where the complexity of King Kong s character is shown is when Ann and
Kong have their first real

Environmental Externalities In The Canadian Government
The Canadian government ought to take a tougher stand against business enterprises who are causing
negative environmental externalities by levying taxes, intensifying standards and introducing new
environmental programs. Canada wants to be a world leader in climate change and now is the time to
act and set the standard. Revenues generated through taxes will be rolled into environmental programs
and businesses will be forced to innovate to find new ways of doing business.
Canada has deployed policy options in the past to deal with issues like global warming, hazardous
waste, and air and water pollution, albeit they were after the issues became critical. The government
needs to take a stronger role and be a world leader in climate change, ... Show more content on

It forces the business to make the decision on how to proceed, and they are faced with consequences if
they continue. 2
Canada currently makes limited use of environmental taxes, in an OECD ranking of environmentally
related taxes as a share of GDP, Canada ranks between Rwanda and Tunisia, and India. The OECD
average was 1.56%, Canada came in at 1.15%, the leading country was Denmark at 4.11%. This
shows that Canada has fallen behind others in environmental taxation and that changes need to be
made.
However, taxes alone will not be able to solve the issue by itself, a multi pronged approach is
necessary. Taxes are one piece of the puzzle; quality and quantity standards combined with the taxes
will force the business to make tough decisions and force them to innovate and consider clean
technology options. Cap and trade systems may also be used with taxes, allowing business to emit a
certain amount and make market decisions to purchase and emit more; and taxing them on certain
levels. 1
The next negative externality to address is the location of hazardous waste sites and the options to deal
with them. The location of hazardous facilities is a hot button issue for many communities; evidence
has emerged that communities close to toxic waste landfills suffered serious negative consequences. 1
The problem with these facilities is they have to go somewhere, so they key is to locate them where
there will have the least impact on people

fertile crest in the middle east. They ventured forth and spread across the earth. Then came the period
of stagnation where no exploration was happening and the space race started. We went back to our

Crop Rotation Kierkegaard Analysis
In the essay Crop Rotation from his book Either/Or, Søren Kierkegaard discusses boredom, which he
considers to be a root of all evil. He argues that all men are boring and that we have been since the
creation of man. It is what drove so much of human history and continues to drive us today.
Kierkegaard then goes a step further and asserts that there are two types of boring people. The first is
someone who bores others, exemplified in the plebeians and the mass, and the second is someone who
bores himself, the elect and the nobility. The people that don t bore themselves, he argues, are people
who are constantly busy, and that is why they are so boring. The other type, which he calls the
superior ones, amuse others but bore themselves. The more profoundly they bore themselves, the more

Dark And Light Imagery Within The Hobbit Essay example
The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien is said to be one of the greatest children s novels of all time. The novel,
due to its use of such characters as goblins, elves, trolls, giants, and others is in tradition, a fairy tale.
The tale centers on a small hobbit by the name of Bilbo Baggins. It follows the journey of a band of
dwarves, a wizard named Gandalf, and their robber, Bilbo on their way to retrieving treasure that had
long been taken away from them. The hobbit traveled all over Middle Earth, beginning with Bilbo s
tiny hobbit hole in the ground, to Mirkwood forest, to finally reaching the Mountain in which the
dragon Smaug lives. Tolkien uses a large amount of imagery in his writing which can been seen
through settings in The Hobbit. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These forms of figurative language help the reader create a mental picture . For example, when Bilbo
Baggins meets Gollum, a strange, slimy creature who lives deep in the caves of Moria, he describes
Gollum s eyes as the light of his eyes burned with a pale flame (92). Gollum s eyes are not really
pale flames, but because hi iris was such a bright color, in contrast to the dark, Bilbo had observed it
as pale. Also, his eyes were not actual flames . Gollum was infuriated by the lose of his ring and
therefore Bilbo saw rage in his expression, his eyes were not flames .
The majority of Tolkien s imagery is found in nature. In 1999, Karen Oberst concluded that Tolkien s
greatest use of nature was when he anthropomophized it, which means to attribute human
characteristics to something that is not human. This form of imagery is an on going pattern throughout
Tolkien s tale. Bilbo Baggins repeatedly advises human characteristics to the inanimate objects that

The Rock Of Pop Rock
2000 s Due to pop music s popularity, rock experienced a diminished presence on the top 40 music
chart by the end of the decade, though the genre still sold well. In the early 2000s, there was an
astounding resurgence of interest in pop rock. This began in the year 2000 with the success of Blink
182 s song All the Small Things and Nine Days s song Absolutely (Story of a Girl) , both of which
peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Pop rock is a genre that mixes catchy pop lyrics with rock
based instrumentation. The characteristics of pop rock are: it appeals to a general audience, rather than
to a sub culture. The music reflects existing trends and is based on dancing and uses dance orientated
beats and rhythms. Pop rock songs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

with his upbeat loud songs. It is believed that the way Presley s songs reached out to young listeners
was the kick start needed to shape rock into what it became in the late 1950 s onwards. THE
BEATLES The Beatles music was the start of modern pop rock, as we know it today. From infectious
melodies of innocent love to introspective Middle Eastern influences, psychedelic musings and talk of
revolution The Beatles were the house band of the 1960s, paralleling, and at times even spearheading,
the turbulent decade. They received amazing amounts of praise from people all over the world with
one of the biggest fan bases seen in that era. This changed the way people viewed musicians and
allowed rock music to become even more mainstream and popular. In the later years, The Beatles
brought their music into the psychedelic rock genre with hits such as I Am The Walrus and Tomorrow
Never Knows . HOUND DOG 1950 s Hound Dog is a song, which is best known as being performed
by Elvis Presley in 1956. The song was originally written for and recorded by Willie Mae Big Mama
Thornton. Presley performed the song in a

The Problem Of The Foreclosure Crisis
A few years ago when the country was in a terrible state, home owners were losing everything they
ever worked hard for. It was a terrible time in our country that we do not want to see happen again.
Foreclosure became a new horrible trend around the nation. All over the news casting stations we saw
videos or pictures of people losing their homes. It was a rapidly, devastating event in America. As the

plan. Boomerang Buyers, are people with a countless gains that goes from either renting to owning a
home within a few years, are in various programs to become a homeowner again. It may be a long
procedure but the rent to own plan is a resourceful, practical and keep plan to consider as an idea.
Before we can promote rent to own concept, we must understand this occasion. The rent to own
opportunity provides everyone with a chance to rent a completely furnished home and pay a fee every
month. The home does not necessarily belong to the renters. The people renting the home actually
have a feeling of being a first time house owner or being a house owner for the second time. Renters
could also pre own the merchandise as well by paying it off with payments. Most of the time people
must work it out with the home owners. At any time of this agreement, the renters could actually break
this lease,

wall around Asgard. There are similar and different aspects between the two of them. There will be

for what the United States was about to unleash upon them. Pearl Harbor was just a distraction to keep

several Japanese attacks on U.S held Philippines, Guam, and Wake Island and the British Empire in
Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong. There have been numerous precedents of unannounced Military

was later judged by the Tokyo Trials to be a war crime. On December 8th, The United States declared
war on Japan and three days later on December 11th Italy and Germany declared war on America. In

  • 2. Greek God Apollo Research Paper Greek God Apollo Research Paper I guess darkness serves a purpose: to show us that there is redemption through chaos. I believe in that. I think that s the basis of Greek mythology , Brendan Fraser once said about the idea of all Greek Gods and myths. The people of ancient Greece would look up to various gods, depending on what they were seeking. Apollo s name translates to strength , as he displayed this trait throughout his lifetime and had to be emotionally and physically stronger at times for the people of Ancient Greece. Apollo was a man of trust who excelled and supported all of the fine arts of the Greek civilization such as music, art, and poetry (God Apollo). One of the most underestimated traits of Apollo was his healing powers, in which he helped out many Greeks in desperate times, like the Trojan War (Cartwright). The Greek God Apollo was the most influential among Greek people because of his recognition for music, the truth, and healing powers. Apollo was born on the Greek island of Delios, from his parents Zeus and Leto (Regula). Zeus was the god of the Olympians who also controlled lightning and thunder, and Leto was the goddess of motherhood (Atsma). Apollo was a god who had a clear idea of what was right from wrong and lived with the idea of that the Greek society could live under peace and harmony and follows the laws that were put into motion, especially after the Trojan War (The Story of Apollo). Apollo demonstrated importance to the people of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Fairness Is An Umbrella Term For Monetary Income, Deferred... When determining pay various factors contribute in the negotiations leading to the resulting payment; in order to ground the discussion it must be understood that pay is an umbrella term for monetary income, deferred payments, non monetary rewards and other fringe benefits (Dale Olsen, 2006). Whereas fairness holds no single definition but is described as a social rather than a psychometric concept, it is in the eye of the beholder and subjectively defined (Aguinis, et al., 2010, p. 649). Despite the lack of consensus regarding its definition; in the real word negotiations of pay there is an overwhelming importance emphasised on fairness which is itself affected by internal and external influences (Rees, 1993). This essay will analyses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory has been criticised as it fails to account for the imperfect market in which it is applied and mistakenly claims workers to be homogeneous. The development of Human Capital Theory internalises these criticisms and acknowledges the influences that education and qualifications have on the supply and demand of a particular jobs moving the pay equilibrium differently than previously thought. The employment contract and pay terms do not merely represent an economical but also a social relationship. Therefore both theoretical explanations must be analysed interdependently to produce a real world explanation of pay differentials acknowledging that no single factor determines pay, instead a collection of factors do. Which are complex due to the open ended nature and unique format of the employment contract; pay is unilaterally decided but negotiated by several actors (Bryson Forth, 2006). Because there are several actors involved in determining pay it becomes further complicated by the socially constructed nature of fairness, which has been normalised in vocabulary but no one is willing or able to pinpoint its definition (Hyman, 1974, p. 176). This has resulted in different understandings of fairness being held by those involved, all of which must be considered when determining pay in order to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Different Types Of Polygons By Nancy Tobin Capture The... This book introduces different types of polygons through objects we find around us everyday. Shape Up! uses cheese slices, pretzel sticks, a slice of bread, a pencil, and more to introduce various polygons, flat shapes with varying numbers of straight sides. Children can learn simple geometry with this playful but informative math concept book that takes the fear out of math and puts the fun back in. There s a wisecracking cartoon kid who accompanies readers throughout and makes silliness and math seem to go together like pretzels and salt. It s a tremendous learning package that will be as pleasing to math teachers as it is to the kids who will probably discover this book on their own. The illustrations by Nancy Tobin capture the reader s eye with her colorful and aesthetically appealing pictures. I believe this book will be very affective because it gets children involved with geometry first hand and lets them find shapes, not just in food, but where ever they go. Using healthy foods to learn geometry will also develop an interest in trying new things as well. Learning shapes through an interactive activity will help them develop a relationship with finding shapes and problem solving without even realizing it! Developing a fun activity with a lesson engages students and captures their full attention. 1st Day Read the book aloud and distinguishes the shapes that were discussed in the book. 2nd Day Students will pair up and develop a scavenger hunt list of the shapes ... Although scientific opinion on climate change is that human activity is likely to be the primary driver of climate change, the politics of global warming have been affected by climate change denial, hindering efforts to prevent climate change and adapt to the warming climate. • 6. Hands by Sherwood Anderson Literary Analysis Essay Hannah Gandelman April.9, 2014 ENC1102 Literary Analysis on Hands by Sherwood Anderson The short story Hands by Sherwood Anderson is one of the twenty two stories in the book Winesburg, Ohio. This story specifically focuses on the psychological trauma of a teacher after being falsely accused of molesting his male students. This alone brings up the topics of homosexuality and sex, which was considered scandalous at the time it was published in 1919.Although this is true, it did not stop the public from finding this piece of literature as fascinating. In Hands, Anderson s form of symbolism, narration, and themes are what make this piece modern and unique. Anderson s use of symbolism to help convey the meaning of the story is what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although he was confused about what happened, he was sure of one thing and that was that the hands must be to blame (252). Wing perceives his hands as a symbol of his perceived guilt, or a manifestation of his fears. They symbolize critical turning points in his life, good and bad. He makes them the core of his actions and who is, allowing them to take control of his life. By personifying Wing s hands, Anderson makes the consequences of their actions the focus point of the story. An important aspect as to why this story was so well written was because of Anderson s choice of narration. The point of view that Anderson uses in Hands can be identified as third person limited. Third person limited is a method of storytelling in which the narrator knows only the thoughts and feelings of a single character, while other characters are only presented externally. Although it is told in third person, at one point the narrator is speaking directly to the reader, just like its done in the tradition of oral story telling, this brings the reader into the creation of the story. Twice in the story the narrator says that both the teller of the story and the listener, in this case, the reader, have to become poets, Let us look briefly into the story of hands. Perhaps our talking of them will arouse the poet who will tell the hidden wonder... (251). In the beginning of the story the narrator ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Witchcraft Hysteria There were many significant factors that came into play at the time of the Salem witchcraft hysteria. Of the numerable amount of factors that contributed to the hysteria the most influential were religion, superstition, politics, economics, and concepts of gender during this time period. People during the 1600 s lacked a basic understanding of how things around them worked compared to what is known and generally accepted in today s world of science. For this sole reason the concept of magic and witchcraft was widely and generally accepted by a large majority of the population during this time period. People often used false accusations of witchcraft against their neighbors because it gave them a simple way to steal another person s land. Women were also not trustworthy sources. Religion played the most crucial role in the development of the witch hysteria. Residents in the town of Salem were Puritans, which meant they were very immoderate in their beliefs. Puritans believed their life purpose was to serve God, which meant vanquishing evil even if there was no evil present. The average lifestyle of a Puritan was monotonous and dull; they believed life was meant to be simple, and any spare time should have been spent serving God. Puritans strived to exterminate any presence of the Devil or evil they could find so they could pursue their quest of being worthy of being saved by their God. • 9. Implementation Of Characters And Platform Design Implementation characters platform design Most of the detached body and platform elements were imported through asset store of Unity and the rest of them were found online, which saves lots of time for us in preparation phase. We designed totally three characters by splicing all the individual parts of the body then created 4 animations, running, jumping, standing and idly for each. The most important part when doing this is setting the layers and the hierarchical structure of parts of the body to be more lifelike according to the real physical model. Similarly, the animations of each character meet the needs of actions in game time. Figure 3 places the basic profile of characters we designed. Figure 3. Character profiles After the preparation of characters, the phase coms to the platform design. The main platform contains 5 main layers laying out the players, background, UI, front ground and tiles. With distinguished layers of the objects in scenes, we could use camera s culling mask to render objects or write special events for certain layers. For example, background layer is for the basic background of the platform while front ground is the front landscape up forward the players and tiles. There all the objects placed in the scenes are just for normal pass mode because the platform for this mode is fixed since the difficulty of each level should be increasing with certain level design. • 10. Review Of The Little Albert Experiment Madison Berry October 30, 2014 Section #2 NetID: meberry John Watson and Classical Conditioning In psychology, respondent behavior is behavior learned through classical conditioning. This type of learning is defined as a way in which one learns to link two or more stimuli while also anticipating events; or other wise, known as a kind of learning that occurs when a conditioned stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus. While classical conditioning was accidently discovered by Ivan Pavlov, John B. Watson was interested in taking Pavlov s experiences a bit further. Watson s ultimate goal was to research how classical conditioning could be seen through humans and not just through animals. An in depth look on John Watson s actual experiment can be better explained and found in the article titled, The Little Albert Experiment on http://psychology.about.com/od/classicpsychologystudies/a/little albert experiment.htm. John Watson s Contribution Classical conditioning is identified as the type of learning where the nature of the research conditions a fear response to the subject being experimented on. An implication of the research for human behavior involving conditioned fear response would describe how a child might be afraid of storms because of the partnership between the storm and the sound of the loud thunder. After the events of 9/11, the US saw a sharp increase in discriminatory racial profiling and restriction of civil liberties for its citizens (Welch, 2004, pp 5). An example of this can be seen with the Special Registration Program issued by the Justice Department in 2002 that applied to non immigrant male visitors from certain countries that were associated with terrorism. The program, also known as the Domestic Call in Registration, has involved policies such as fingerprinting, photographing and the interviewing of more than 46,000 students, tourists and businessmen. The play beings in New York City in a jury room, there are 12 jurors and each of them seem very flustered, not only because its hot and the fan won t work, but because the trial seems to almost be a waste of time for these twelve people. Well he uses this because the lady who witnessed the murder wore glasses, and in order for her to have clearly been able to see the murder she would have to have her glasses on while she was in bed; since that is when she witnessed the murder. Little by little the other jurors change their vote from guilty to not guilty. And in the end justice is served and the boy is found not guilty. The Truth About War Revealed in the Film, The Thin Red Line Terrence Malick s The Thin Red Line (1998) is a film that examines the Guadalcanal Battle of World War II, looking past the physical results of the violence, in order to uncover the deeper truths and ramifications of war. The film conveys themes and ideologies that are somewhat uncommon to war films, especially WW II films. In this dark, surreal, journey, Malick takes us inside the minds of soldiers experiencing this battle to capture a remote pacific island from the Japanese. He states that ìIn The Thin Red Line, the battle scenes merely provide the backdrop to Malickís inquiries into military behavior and the nature of evil. (Macnab 54). For example, there was one young woman in the line who was wearing the same shorts and a tee combination as many other patrons. Hanging off the back of her backpack were a pair of pink leather shoes, soft and supple, with worn pads on the bottom where the material was gathered in from the top. They were hooked onto her backpack with a carabiner through the criss crossed elastic bands which pulled the two sides of the shoe together. Through iconic reasoning, I recognized them as ballet slippers. This lead me to assume that this young woman was a dancer, coming from or going to class or rehearsal. This indexical assumption was based on my recognizing the ballet slippers and understanding what ballet slippers are generally used for, as well as knowing that rarely, if ever, someone would hang a pair of well used ballet slippers off of their backpack as a sort of fashion statement. After mentally cataloging the woman in the summer dress, the hiker, the fashionable young man, and now the ballerina based on clothes and accessories, I tried to find a sign that was not clothing. I noticed the young woman at the table next to mine, who was industriously typing away on her laptop, referring every now and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Summary Of God, The Founding Fathers, And The Making Of A... In American Gospel: God, the Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation, Jon Meacham explores the dynamic relationship between religion and government in America in the hope that contemporary America can learn from the past. The period covered by the book spans from 1620 until Reagan s presidency in the late 1980s. However, Meacham focuses on the Founding Fathers stances and their continued impact on American politics. More specifically, the book details the conflict over the separation of private religious expression and the more neutral public religion . One of Meacham s main purposes in writing the American Gospel is to correct common misconceptions of both secularists and evangelists in addition to moderates. In doing so, he quotes ... Meacham mentions the criminal treatment of Native Americans perhaps three times and implies that religion was a factor (65). Nonetheless, he does not linger on the topic and provides no specific details. This is rather surprising considering his description of Andrew Jackson s era as a time of religious revival and growing nationalism (141). A time during which Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act and his successor Martin Van Buren authorized the forced removal of the Cherokee people from their native lands in what became known as The Trail of Tears. Yet Meacham ignores this completely while instead comparing Jackson s stance on religion and government to that of Thomas Jefferson. Similarly to his discussion of Native Americans, Meacham classifies the religious and cultural implications for the faiths and customs of those brought here in bondage as largely overlooked, but fails to expand upon the topic of African American slavery and its effects ... • 27. The Problem Of Poverty And Homelessness I argue that Charlie is wrong in this thinking. The notion that he is raising is exactly the type of selfish and closed minded way of thinking that sets back the progress in solving the issue of poverty and homelessness in America. In fact, a study taken in 2015 gathered that with more interaction and willingness to help the homeless, the more empathy and compassion is gained for them, later resulting in a larger contribution from society creating a social change. I obtained this information based on a survey taken by Lindsay Phillips, a physiologist, that took it upon herself to ask working, undergraduate college students to describe their perceptions of homelessness, willingness to get involved, and ideas towards a solution. In this survey it is found that a good majority of people do see a problem of homelessness and poverty, and are willing to do their part in order to help. In addition, it was found that by volunteering to make a change, the stigma of social distance between the homeless and the general public gradually shortens. This is said in the survey report stating, Findings seem to indicate that it may be possible to demonstrate stigma toward a population, yet still have a desire to help that population (as indicated by participants seeing the validity of a number of solutions to homelessness and because 82.61% of participants expressed willingness to volunteer to help this population)...For example, results indicated that very few participants would remain ... Analysis On Desert Valley s Budget Adjustment INTERNAL MEMO TO: Marcus Chelford, Ted Amero, and Fernando Lapan FROM: Li Chan, CPA DATE: December 2, 2014 SUBJECT: Activity 2A Budget Adjustment The purpose of this memo is to describe the impact of the change in commodity prices on Desert Valley s budget and suggest ways to mitigate this threat. We conducted some sensitivity analysis on Desert Valley s budget to determine the expected impact of a 2% increase in the price of malt barley and wheat grain. This is especially important given the fact that customers are not willing to increase prices to compensate for the rising cost of these commodities. This puts pressure on Desert Valley to absorb these price shocks and still meet its other financial objectives. As one would expect, a 2% increase on direct materials will lead to an increase in variable costs and in turn, a decrease in profits and contribution margin. The budget impact of this change equates to ($73,322) which represents a (1.06%) hit to profits and a (0.86%) change in contribution margin. This shows that at this point, small percentage changes in commodity prices have a relatively minor impact on the company s financial position. However, if commodity prices continue to fluctuate further or if production volumes increase then this may become a more prevalent issue. To mitigate the risk of future commodity price changes it is recommended that Desert Valley adopt a hedging program by purchasing forward contracts. This would allow the company to ... In the early 1970s, Kahneman and Amos Tversky set out to disassemble an entity of economic theorists, Homo economicus. Kahneman s main focus was human irrationality. In his career there were three important phases. At first he and Tversky did a series of experiments in which revealed twenty or more cognitive biases. They defined these as unconscious errors of reasoning that distort judgment. Characteristically paired with cognitive biases were anchoring effects which are the tendencies to be influenced by irrelevant numbers we are exposed to. • 32. Gender Roles And Social Issues In The Post-WWII Era Every post war era in United States history is composed of a period of social revolution. Ideas about gender roles and economic class change as the country attempts to redefine itself and its morals in the wake of a devastating conflict. Although the Great Depression was fifteen years removed from the First World War, social issues of the time resemble the same issues that were pertinent in the immediate post war era as well as American issues in the post WWII era. In a lot of ways, they are still the issues we are facing nearly a century later. Many women were forced to work during the war to supplement their husband s income while he was deployed overseas but when he returned, their help was no longer needed or desired. When the Great Depression hit in 1929, women who were still in the workplace or who sought jobs so that they could feed their families faced accusations that their position in the workplace were preventing men from obtaining jobs for their families. When the Depression ended and the United States became involved in World War II, women were again forced to work to supplement their husbands income, and yet again expected to leave the workforce when men returned home from war. During the time period from 1932 1945, social issues were addressed in film as both a moral boost during hard times and a criticism of society. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and makes it relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s motives, and gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such as King Kong, one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While writers do an overall great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love story between Darrow and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between Darrow and Driscoll in the beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it challenging to care about their relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that shows does a great job at showing what the characters are feeling throughout. Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is feeling at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the characters, and understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the ship crew approach Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers describe this thick fog that the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates imagery to describe the dark and eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog, they start to become afraid, as they fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is when one of the ship crew members Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re going (49)! Panic and terror possess the characters, and the writers do a great of showing it. The writers do a great job with the development of King Kong and making him a complex character. Gollum s eyes are not really pale flames, but because hi iris was such a bright color, in contrast to the dark, Bilbo had observed it as pale. Also, his eyes were not actual flames . Gollum was infuriated by the lose of his ring and therefore Bilbo saw rage in his expression, his eyes were not flames . The majority of Tolkien s imagery is found in nature. This form of imagery is an on going pattern throughout Tolkien s tale. Bilbo Baggins repeatedly advises human characteristics to the inanimate objects that are around him, which adds profoundness to Tolkien s tale.
