Changes In Aggregate Demand And Short-Run Aggregate Supply
1. Explain how the following changes in aggregate demand or short run aggregate supply, other things
held unchanged, are likely to affect the level of total output and the price level in the short run.
The level of total output and the price level are determined in the short run by the intersection of the
short run aggregate supply curve and the aggregate demand curve (Rittenberg and Tregarthen, 2012).
Therefore, if you know how the changes in aggregate demand or short run aggregate supply will shift
their respective curves, you can explain how the changes will affect the level of total output and the
price level.
An increase in aggregate demand
An increase in aggregate demand will shift the aggregate demand curve to the right. This will cause
the aggregate demand curve to intersect the short run aggregate supply curve at a point above and to
the right of the previous equilibrium point. This means that total output and price levels will rise. In
the graph below, the shift in the aggregate demand curve to the right was caused by an increase in
government purchases, this led to a new intersection or equilibrium point from P1 to P2. The new
intersecting point is at a higher price level and higher output level.

A decrease in aggregate demand
A decrease in aggregate demand would have the opposite effect to the increase in aggregate demand
that was discussed in the above answer. With a decrease in aggregate demand, the

Green Eggs And Ham By Dr Seuss
My favorite childhood book was called, Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. Green Eggs and Ham is
about how Sam wants his friend to try green eggs and ham, and after much convincing, he tries them
and likes them ( WikiSummaries , 2016). The theme of this book is about how you shouldn t make up
your mind about something without trying it. This book is about imagination and the genre of the
story is comedy. I remember reading this book for the first time and I really enjoyed the book because
it was funny and it was fun to read. I also learned a lot from this book because the theme is about how
you shouldn t make up your mind about something without trying it. This means you shouldn t jump
into not trying something fast without seeing if you

The Battle of la Drang in Vietnam
Lieutenant Colonel Moore led his unit, the 1st Battalion, 7th U.S. Cavalry to South Vietnam, and led
them in the famous Battle of Ia Drang. Surrounded by enemy soldiers, and with no clear landing zone
that would allow them to leave, Moore managed to persevere against the overwhelming odds and
complete his objective. Moore s dictum that there is always one more thing you can do to increase
your odds of success and the courage of his entire command are given credit with the outstanding
outcome (Galloway). Despite the fact that Moore s outstanding leadership and tactical prowess led to
more than a 4 to 1 ratio between North Vietnamese casualties and U.S. casualties in their first major
engagement of the war. Many consider this early battle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With Herrick s platoon was cut off from the rest of the battalion and surrounded by numerous NVA,
Lieutenant Bob Taft s 3rd Platoon of Alpha Company confronted approximately 150 Vietnamese
soldiers advancing down the length and sides of the creek bed toward the battalion trying to reach
Herrick,s platoon. 3rd Platoon s troops were told to drop their packs and move forward for the assault.
The resulting exchange was costly for 3rd Platoon, causing its leading forces of the assault to be
quickly cut down. 3rd Platoon was forced to pull back from the assault due to the numerous casualties,
and Taft was killed while leading pulling his men back. Sergeant Lorenzo Nathan, a Korean War
veteran, took command and 3rd Platoon was able to halt the NVA advance down the creek bed (X
Ray). The NVA forces shifted their attack to 3rd Platoon s right flank in an attempt to flank Bravo.
Their advance was quickly stopped by Lieutenant s Marm s 2nd Platoon from Alpha Company
situated on Bravo s left flank. Moore had ordered Captain Nadal to lend Bravo one of his platoons, in
an effort to allow Herren to attempt to fight through to Herrick s platoon position. .
It is quickly apparent that the enemy force is determined to overrun and kill every American on the
field. The afternoon was consumed in a desperate fire storm battle for survival in 100 degree heat for
Moore and his men against a superior force as far into the jungle as possible and both fought to control
the edges of the clearing

Self-Realization In The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls
One of the things that amazed me the most about The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls was that even
though she had basically been brainwashed by her own father, she still came to terms with what she
wanted out of her life and became a success. For her entire childhood, her parents did not even think
she would amount to anything because she had no real skills, and her father did try and push her
towards a life in science. However, in high school, Jeannette realized she had a passion for journalism;
which is how she ended up turning herself into a success. Her story of triumph against all odds, and
finding what someone really wants to do was what really inspired me. The theme of self realization in
The Glass Castle of what a person s beliefs are even in the face of adversity is something I have been
able to relate to in my life. For my entire life I have been raised Catholic, and for a while that is really
all I knew. I was baptised as a baby, I was confirmed in second grade, I went to sunday school, and I ...

not become atheist by the end of my sophomore year was because of a girl I started talking to. Her

Catholic, and I guess I stayed religious because I was subconsciously afraid she would not feel the

I kind of stopped listening to what the priest was saying. For awhile I considered myself agnostic;

Volkswagen Case Study
Being the second largest car manufacturer in the world, Volkswagen really dug themselves a deep
hole. According to Bocconi Students Investment Club, The company was discovered cheating on the
emission tests by installing software that limits the harmful fumes produces but only while the vehicle
is being tested. Once on the road, the company s vehicles emission levels exceed the norm by 10 40
times. While reading the Bocconi Students Investment Club that you have provided for us, it goes in
depth about how this scandal was suppose to help Volkswagen become the first car manufacturer in
the world. Volkswagen ethically broke the law by installing these software systems in their vehicles
that lower the NOx levels in the engine of their vehicles ranging from 2009 2015. According to BSIC,
At the core of this scandal are the so called defeat devices installed by Volkswagen on some 11 million
cars worldwide. At the moment legal charges have been brought up on roughly 482,000 diesel
vehicles operating in the US under VW and Audi badges. This investigation started to occur in 2015.
According to BSIC When the software dented that it was being tested, it would change to an alternate
engine configuration, lowering toxic NOx levels in exchange for a drop in performance and fuel
economy. Since this discussion about what Volkswagen did, they have lost a lot of their business.
Consumers are not going to want to buy vehicles from this company any more because of how much
money it would cost them to get their car fixed. This dispute has hurt a lot of people in the process.
For an example, it is hurting the consumers because they have to get their vehicle fixed, the company
itself because they are under lawsuits and potential fines. According to BSIC The serious implications
for the firm are expected to not only include costs arising from fines, lawsuits and recall costs, but also
criminal and civil chargers pursued against individuals directly responsible for the incident. By having
all of these lawsuits and recall costs it is going to cost Volkswagen a lot of money in the long run.
According to BSIC Under the threat of a 18 billion potential fine, the negative reaction of the market

Puritans Ethics And The Pinto Disaster
It is important to note, however, that Puritans ethics have been the catalyst that accelerated the growth
of capitalism (Weber 107). At the same time, Puritans ethics initiated a formal and instrumental
approach to life (115). In the case of the Pinto Disaster, Weber would claim that Ford s decision to
settle in lawsuits, instead of installing the safety gadget, is a mathematical approach to life. Firstly,
Weber would argue that bureaucracies structure has created a hierarchy system where workers are
powerless and have fewer obligations. According to Dowie, the Pinto engineer did notify his superior
about the defected product with a solution (16). However, the powerless engineer did not have the
approval of his superior make the necessary

Employee Compensation and Benefits Packages
Employee Compensation and Benefits Packages Introduction: A company s compensation and benefits
package will likely be a great determinant of the quality of its personnel and the stake that these
employees feel that they have in the hiring organization. This is why it is incumbent upon an
organization to choose a compensation and benefits strategy that is at once consistent with internal
values, needs and expectations and respects the external forces of industry standards, market context
and geographical impact. Company Type: These factors must be taken together in developing a
package for a firm such as ours. A small but growing company specializing in high end food delivery
is in the process of expanding to a new facility. This will require new hires and more responsibilities
for long term personnel. Therefore, a new compensation approach is required. Because our company
is located in a metropolitan area, it is also of importance that our compensation package be
competitive within the context. There is a high variance from one major metropolitan area to another,
but this context is uniformly likely to require a higher compensation package commensurate with the
cost of living. As the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) (2013) reports, total compensation, wages and
salaries, and benefit costs in private industry are included in this release for 15 combined and
metropolitan statistical areas (CSAs and MSAs). Total compensation costs for the 15 metropolitan
areas ranged

Case Study Of Saint Chinian
Saint Chinian, a vineyard you must visit
Talking about vineyards and one of the first names that comes to my mind is of Saint Chinian, a small
and beautiful village located in South France. It has a dry and Mediterranean climate which is best
suited for vineyards. It boasts of some of the most famous vineyards and even has a famous wine
named after it, called the Saint Chinian wine which is produced from here only. The vines that are
planted on the slopes of the hills surrounding this exotic place produce some of the very high quality
wines you would find in the entire world. Saint Chinian is known mainly for its roses, and the unusual
whites. The maximum numbers of the vines planted are of reds and roses which are called Grenache,
Syrah, and Mouvedre. The rest is white and are named Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne
Carignan, Clairette, Viognier, Bourboulenc, and more. Here s a bit on the different varieties of the
Mediterranean wine.
Grenache Noir produces wines with aromatics of raspberry red fruits and mixed spice with rounded
tannins.
Syrah produces wines with intense aromatics of blackberry fruits, pepper spice and violets, and gives
great color and structure.
MourvĂšdre loves the heat and produces full bodied wines with intense tannins, peppery spice
aromatics blackberry fruit aromatics.

Literary Analysis Of Mother To Son By Langston Hughes
Cocar Poems just seem to be stanzas with a bunch of words but in reality, it is beyond just a bunch of
words, more like an intense significance. Many authors tend to send out an impacting message
throughout poems. Usually authors write poems about occurrences that they ve experienced to express
how they ve dealt with certain situations or people. Making it easy for the readers to also catch on to
their vibe and main idea of the whole poem. In Langston Hughes poem, Mother to Son Hughes
writing exemplifies the intricate trial and tribulations that a black person, specifically black men have
in this country. Hughes demonstrates through his writing about the staircase he s able to explain the
racial conflicts that many black people had faced. With Hughes use of metaphors, symbolism imagery
he s able to perfect both a mother s concern for her child along with the general concern many had
with race relations at the time. Throughout the poem Mother to Son , Langston Hughes uses an
informative tone to express how much the mother wants to guide her son in what she has already been
through. The metaphor that was seen in the poem was that the staircase represented the mother s life.
In Mother s to Son , Hughes writes, It s had tacks in it and splinters . This is basically referring to the
mother s suffering she had to live with in and out of her life. Of course, tacks and splitters do not
freeze your life and make everything impossible, but with those two things you do endure pain. The
next two lines, And boards torn up, and places with no carpet on the floor (lines 5 6.) Hughes shows
that no matter what hardships she had to face, she continued with her life. The mother makes sure to
explain clearly to her son that no matter what life hit her with she battled through it all even when it
was almost made impossible. The Cocar metaphor used proves that she never gave in to her problems,
she continued with all the scars she got along the way reaching for the best. Chidi Ikonne, writing in
the collection Langston Hughes, suggests that this and other poems by Hughes present a stance of
stability which, ironically, has developed from the

The Success Of The Doomsday Machine
In Diplomacy, authored by Henry Kissinger, the lack of respect to the differing the balance of power
principles in separate countries of europe Europe, the bullying strategies by Germany, the poor
diplomatic alliances of Germany, Austria, France, Britain and Russia, and the lack of understanding of
differing Military policies by Germany all lead to the Doomsday Machine. The Doomsday Machine
was made up of all the actions that resulted in the ripping apart of the diplomatic alliances, with each
alliance having too much at stake to permit the Concert of Europe diplomacy to function. Instead, the
Concert of Europe and its ideas about the balance of power were abolished. Kissinger mainly
discusses the multiple diplomatic alliances that led to the inevitable breakout of war. Most of the
conflicts could have been avoided, but many of the leaders of the European countries, mainly
Germany and Russia, seemed not to consider the long term implications of their decisions. Germany s
actions started diplomatic disputes with France, Britain, and Russia. The three countries inherently
formed an alliance with each other and isolated Germany in Europe. On the part of Russia, their main
objective seemed to start a war instead of look for peace or seek a compromise. The leaders were often
unwilling to politically negotiate because they had much of their own land and activities on the
Eastern front, and therefore almost nothing to lose. The Territorial problems presented in the Treaty of

The Market
Introduction. The problems in this chapter examine some variations on the apartment market described
in the text. In most of the problems we work with the true demand curve constructed from the
reservation prices of the consumers rather than the smoothed demand curve that we used in the text.
Remember that the reservation price of a consumer is that price where he is just indiïŹ€erent between
renting or not renting the apartment. At any price below the reservation price the consumer will
demand one apartment, at any price above the reservation price the consumer will demand zero
apartments, and exactly at the reservation price the consumer will be indiïŹ€erent between having zero

Adam Liszt As A Principal Figure In The Romantic Movement
Liszt was not only a principal figure in the Romantic Movement but also a composer of enormous
originality and arguably the greatest piano virtuoso of his time. A controversial character, he was
attacked for his innovations, talent and flair by his jealous rivals. As a composer, he radically extended
the technique of piano writing, extended the harmonic language, and later developed chromatic
harmony which led eventual breakdown of tonality revolutionizing the music of the era. As a pianist
Liszt was the first to give complete solo recitals, and he did a great deal to encourage the performance
of music by Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Berlioz, Wagner, and Robert Schumann by transcribing their
works for piano and playing them in his concerts at a time when they were insufficiently appreciated.
He also helped younger composers, and he taught a number of pupils who themselves became famous
virtuosos. When Franz was five years old; he was already attracted to the piano and was soon given
lessons by his father, Adam Liszt. He began to show interest in both church and Gypsy music. Franz
began to compose at the age of eight and at only nine years old, he made his first public appearance as
a concert pianist. He gave several concerts in Vienna, with great success. Liszt moved with his family
to Paris in 1823. Liszt s Paris debut on March 7, 1824, was sensational. Between 1830 and 1832, Liszt
met three fellow composers who were to have a great influence on his artistic life, Hector

The Federal Government Regulate The Insurance Industry
Background The federal government s role is in regulating industries is to protect consumers and the
market. There is an ongoing debate on whether the federal government should regulate the insurance
industry as a result of the bailouts stemming from the Financial Crisis of 2008. Currently, state
governments regulate the insurance industry. Proponents of federal regulation reason that states are
inefficient in the duty of insurance regulation. Additionally, the federal government has economies of
scale and may offer an increase in efficiency unlike state regulation. The federal government regulates
industries due to inherent systemic risk to the country s economic environment. Systemic risk is the
risk of collapse of an entire financial system or market. (SOURCE) For example, banking institutions
such as Lehman Brothers, Merrell Lynch, and Goldman Sachs were major contributors to the financial
crisis in 2008 because these institutions were systemically significant to the market. The insurance
industry and the core activities of the industry, however, were not a major contributor to near collapse
of the American economy. The federal government should not regulate the insurance industry because
it does not possess a systemic risk to the market economy, states have the ability and resources to
regulate, and federal regulation would result in unnecessary costs from the federal budget.

that he wanted to leave society. We realize this when he says I am not what you call a civilized being!

But while the Nautilus is attacked by a bunch of squid, Nemo does his best to fend them off. He even
puts his life on the line to save Ned Land, but he cannot prevent one of his own crew members from

capable of caring for the new people, it shows us that under the crusty exterior Captain Nemo is a real
softie. His serious bitterness is quite off putting at the beginning of the book. It makes you wonder
what had to have happened to make him the way that he is. It may have been due to the fact that his
wife and children got killed, it may have been because of untold reasons, his childhood, bad
experiences with life itself, or a job failure. Either way it shows us that we, as humans can change just
by spending time and investing in people.
While reading 20,000 leagues under the sea I found myself wondering about how nice it would be to
just go somewhere no one has been before and start again. Maybe Nemo was just tired of his everyday
life where there were rules and expectations. He might have felt like there was nothing to stay for so
he left to see the unknown depths of the ocean. I believe that its human nature to be curious of what
we are unsure of. Captain Nemo seemed like a person that pushes his, and everybody else s

The Similarities Between Walden And 42
Jackie Robinson was the first ever African American to ever play in Major League Baseball. This
caused a major change in Major League Baseball history because he was the first one to play in a all
white league. He had to deal with a lot of people being mean to him and trying to hurt him and also
trying to get him to lash out at people so that he could get kicked out of the MLB. This theme can be
seen in the work of Henry David Thoreau. An example of this theme can be seen in the movie 42.
Walden by Henry David Thoreau, and 42 by Brian Helgeland show that hard work and dedication
leads to success in life. This theme is supported by tone, self reliance, and characters perseverance in

Homosexuality and Religion
Opposition to gay marriage has increased since the summer and a narrow majority of Americans also
oppose allowing gays and lesbians to enter legal agreements that fall short of marriage. Moreover,
despite the overall rise in tolerance toward gays since the 1980s, many Americans remain highly
critical of homosexuals and religious belief is a major factor in these attitudes.
A 55% majority believes it is a sin to engage in homosexual behavior, and that view is much more
prevalent among those who have a high level of religious commitment (76%). About half of all
Americans have an unfavorable opinion of gay men (50%) and lesbians (48%), but highly religious
people are much more likely to hold negative views.

But there is evidence that this issue could become problematic for the Democratic presidential
nominee. Voters who support President Bush are largely of one mind on this issue: More than three
quarters (78%) of voters who favor the president s reelection in 2004 oppose gay marriage; more than
half (53%) strongly oppose the idea. But voters who prefer to see a Democrat elected in 2004 are
divided 46% favor gay marriage, 48% oppose. A substantial minority of these Democratic leaning
voters strongly oppose gay marriage (25%).
The survey also shows that Americans remain deeply divided over the essential cause and nature of
homosexuality. A 42% plurality believes that being a homosexual is just the way that some people
prefer to live, no change from a Los Angeles Times survey conducted in 1985. But there has been a
rise in the percentage who say homosexuality is something that people are born with from 20% in the
Times survey to 30% currently. The public also is split on the question of whether a gay person s
sexual orientation can be changed 42% say it can, the same number disagrees.
Still, most Americans say they are comfortable interacting socially with homosexuals. Just one in five
say they are uncomfortable around homosexuals, while 76% say they do not mind being around gays.

The geography was a huge aspect of the civilizations way of life. The Indus River Valley was a very
peaceful civilization. There was little to no weapons found in the civilization. They faced so much
time with no attacks they had no army. The reason the Indus River Valley could remain untouched
because of its natural barrier. The Hindu Kush Mountains surrounded the civilization to the north and
the rest was surrounded water. The rivers provided transportation out of the civilization and acted as a
trade route for the people. Despite their communication with the outside world, the civilization
remained peaceful because no civilization was going to climb mountains to conquer it. One
civilization did cross the mountains. They were called the Aryans. The Aryans combined with the
civilization presently there and created one huge civilization. The disadvantage of the location of the
Indus River Valley Civilization was monsoons. Monsoons were strong seasonal winds that gave the
civilization two seasons: the wet and the dry. The wet season was during the summer and it blows
moist air eastward causing floods. The dry season was during the winter months and it blows dry air
westward causing droughts. Although there was a disadvantage of living in the Indus River Valley

The First Amendment In Five Amendments
The first amendment is as powerful as a weapon, without it citizens would not have the power to
petition or peacefully protest our opinion or thoughts. Meaning that us as a society would be
powerless and have no say in our government, or how it s run. Any person who habitats in this country
has the liberty to say how they feel thus having the power to be heard. The constitution was written
during the 1700 s, from authors who have personally felt and lived through the inability to be vocal.
Many people believed during that time that every citizen is entitled to basic human rights, leading to
the framers creating a document which is composed of the first ten amendments now known as The

Unified School District v. Newdow. July 2008, www.oyez.org/cases/2003/02 1624 ) This case is still a
controversial topic today. Michael Newdow petitioned the Pledge of Allegiance, claiming that the
fragment stating under God is a violation to his first amendment right. His petition reached thousands
of followers and eventually was received at the Supreme Court. The court disagreed with his case and
labeled it constitutional. The reasoning behind the final ruling decision was that Mr.Newdow s
daughter has no obligation to participate in the pledge if she does not wish to. An even more recent
case was McCullen v. Coakley (2014) which is based on another controversial topic that divides the
nation, abortion. ( McCullen v Coakley. {{meta.SiteName}}, www.oyez.org/cases/2013/12 1168.)
This case took place in Massachusetts at a Planned Parenthood center. The state created a law that
prevents pro lifers from protesting about 20 feet from the facility, as there was obviously commotion
from the protestors. The Supreme Court named the state law constitutional and defended the decision.

Late Tang Tea
Tea, as one of the most important tax revenues since the late Tang Dynasty, always occupies a
significant position in China s political and economic history; however, tea can also be understood in
terms of social and cultural history. Members of the Ming elites had already regarded matters related
to tea as a kind of specialized art. During late Ming period, the paramount interest of the connoisseur
was taste and the singular ability to summon experience and knowledge in the appreciation of tea.
Taste here not only refers to its sociological meaning, which emphasizes on personal and cultural

Fly By Wire Book Report
FLY BY WIRE Synopsis William Langewiesche, one of the finest minds in aviation industry, a
journalist and also an author who contributed with his experience in the aviation field to write some
marvellous novels. Fly by wire being one of his marvels, unravels the crash of US Airways flight 1549
with minute detailing of events that led the crash landing in the Hudson in 2009. The total flight
duration was no longer than the time required for reading this report. Both of the aircraft engines had
failed due to multiple bird strikes causing power loss following the take off which compelled the
pilots to perform a controlled crash landing of the aircraft into the Hudson River. Langewiesche
expounds the entire incident with real time characters involved and the series of events and emergency

The author throughout the novel has given a lot of credit to Sullenberger s decision making and
piloting skills which led to the safe rescue of everyone on board. The aircraft took off from New York
heading to Charlotte, New Carolina and minutes later while the plane was still in its initial climb
configuration, encountered a mayday situation due to bird strikes. The pilots had taken controls of the
aircraft by disconnecting the autopilot right after a flock of geese struck both the engines and got
sucked in causing immediate emergency. Langewiesche appreciates Sullenberger s quick analysis of
the situation and his idea of landing the plane in water, which later proved to be the best decision for
everyone s safety. Part of the book talks about the airplane itself, Airbus and the credit holder for its
design, a former test pilot Ziegler. The assistance provided by the aircraft design and computer
systems to Sullenberger for gliding the plane to safety into the waters of Hudson River has been
clearly explained by the

Comparing Prometheus And Atlas
Many a few have heard of Atlas, the almighty titan. After the gods of olympus, led by Zeus defeated
the titans, Atlas was charged to eternally bear the weight of the world on his shoulders. To be a bit
more specific, Atlas was mandated to keep apart the heavens and the Earth. This was the predicament
of a number of titans at the hands of Zeus and the other Gods. For example, Prometheus, creator of the
Earth is tortured eternally. Every Day, a murderous phoenix attacks him and steals his liver, and
everyday, his liver grows back so that he suffers the pain each and every day. Well, both Prometheus
and Atlas helped our beloved hero Hercules with his 12 labors. His eleventh labor was to retrieve
some golden apples from the Garden of Hesperides. However, this garden was protected by a

Hercules was well aware of this and tried to find help. He was told by a group of Nymphs to find
Prometheus. They said that if Hercules were to kill the Eagle that returned everyday to torture
Prometheus, he would in return tell him how to complete his task. So, Hercules set off to find
Prometheus. After slaying the murderous bird, Hercules was informed that Atlas was his best chance
at procuring some golden apples. So Hercules again set off in search of Atlas. Hercules struck a deal
with Atlas. It basically said that Hercules would bear the burden of Atlas for a short while, meanwhile
Atlas would enter the garden and get the apples for Hercules. After Atlas had successfully made it
back with the apples, he told Hercules that he would just take them to Eurystheus himself. Hercules
slyly agreed, but asked if Atlas could hold it long enough for Hercules to place some padding on his
shoulders to help with the load. But Hercules took the apples and ran without looking back and
returned to Eurystheus with the apples prepared to tackle his final labor before he was accepted into
Olympus as a God. And Atlas was left to bear the weight of the heavens forever in

Elements In Slaughterhouse-Five
Comic and Tragic Elements in Slaughterhouse Five
Slaughterhouse Five, by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., is the tale of a World War II soldier, Billy Pilgrim. His
wartime experiences and their effects lead him to the ultimate conclusion that war is unexplainable. To
portray this effectively, Vonnegut presents the story in two dimensions: historical and science fiction.
The irrationality of war is emphasized in each dimension by contrasts in its comic and tragic elements.
The historical seriousness of the Battle of the Bulge and the bombing of Dresden are contrasted by
many ironies and dark humor; the fantastical, science fiction type place of Tralfamadore is, in truth, an
outlet for Vonnegut to show his incredibly serious fatalistic views. ... Show more content on

Ironically the talented, trained scouts are killed by the Germans, whereas Billy and Roland are spared
and merely taken as POWs. The simplicity and innocence in the description of the tragic ends of the
scouts are told in the simple sentence, Three inoffensive bangs came from far away. The ending of
lives, especially that of comrades, cannot be characterized as inoffensive. Billy doesn t say this to be
unsympathetic, but rather from the shock of a war that alters his perception of life, and makes him
unable to deal with reality in a normal way.
More irony is shown with the horrible conditions on the POW train headed for Dresden, plagued by
cold weather, endless hours of nothing to do, and cramped surroundings. A hobo dies on one boxcar
while proclaiming, You think this is bad? This ain t so bad. Also, Roland Weary dies of gangrene, as a
result of going shoeless when he is stripped of his boots by German soldiers. He blames Billy for his
death. Ironically, of the four original soldiers, Billy is the only one who remains alive, yet he is the
most unlikely one to do so. Eventually, Billy makes it to Dresden, and he and the other American
POWs are housed in Schlachthof Funf (Slaughterhouse Five), from which the book s name is derived.
Because Dresden is an open city , not militarily important to the Allied Powers, people from
surrounding cities flee to Dresden to take refuge. Ironically, the city is bombed and the thousands of

Anthropologists over time recognized several physical and behavioral traits that connect humans to
other primates, but can primates learn to manipulate tools, imitate, cooperate, communicate, and

their various societies, many scientists are able to induce a stronger understanding of human relations
among primates and further our knowledge and understandings about evolution. The existence or
nonexistence of cultural patterns in subhuman primates may best be determined by observations

For this project, I believe that I am an anti stratfordian. There is no possible way that Shakespeare
could have written all of his works in such minimal time. Going into this project, I expect to form a

argument and pick a side. Before I started researching for this project, I had no idea where to start.
Frankly, I didn t even realize how controversial the Shakespeare s authorship question really was. I

At first I didn t think it was possible for him to write all of those plays. After I did my research, I
learned that playwrights would put other playwrights names on their plays so they would sell. This
allowed me to see that it wasn t Shakespeare s fault that he was claiming these many plays. They also
would put his name on it to pay tribute to him. I learned that Shakespeare did indeed, have a
respectable education, despite what anti stratfordians say. The education that Shakespeare received
from his grammar school was a big help, but it was his immense amount of reading that mainly
contributed to the writing of the plays. Shakespeare really understood everything about how plays
worked, whether it be picking the right actors or making small cramped stages work. Even though he
was a commoner who wrote about nobles and royalty, he was exposed to them in such a way that he
was able to create entire plays based on the upper class lifestyle. But the opposing side thinks Edward
de Vere was the true Bard. But since he died in 1604, and Shakespeare s big plays were produced after
Vere s death, it leads me to believe de Vere is not the true Bard. Lots of famous and respectable people
would disagree with me and claim that Shakespeare isn t the true Bard. However, the majority of

This is exactly the feeling that the King is trying to provoke. Although Shakespeare does not
necessarily use worth in its traditional way of making people feel important, he sparks competition
within his men, which would likely be more effective at such a low point in their war. Similarly,
Lieutenant General George Patton needs to motivate his soldiers to fight an equally if not more
dangerous battle, but his men were already winning their war so he takes the traditional route and
makes them feel more important. He says to his men All real heroes are not storybook combat fighters,
either. Every single man in this Army plays a vital role. Don t ever let up. Don t ever think that your
job is unimportant. Every man has a job to do and he must do it. Every man has a vital link in the great
chain (Patton 38 40). There is one big difference in the way Shakespeare and Patton used worth. The
King s men were badly losing so their only hope of survival was to compete against each other to stay
alive, however since Patton s men were winning all he had to do was reinforce what they were already
worth and they would want to fight. By making each job seem equally important Patton motivates
each man to work just as hard as everyone else. Not only does worth have this effect, but also status.

Essay On The Debates Between Abraham Lincoln And Stephen...
Archaeologists have traditionally viewed the list of seven debates between Abraham Lincoln and
Stephen A. Douglas through the 1858 Illinois state voting campaign as amongst the most important
declarations in American imperial history. Those concerns they addressed were not only of crucial
significance to the regional dispute over states rights and slavery but also covered deeper into issues
that would proceed to change political dialogue. What is usually neglected is that these contests were a
component of the comprehensive campaign, that they were intended to achieve some main policy
objectives, and that they showed the features of mid nineteenth century political speech . Douglas,
being part of Congress as from 1843 and a famous nationwide spokesperson for the Democratic body,
was contesting for another election for a third season in the Senate, whereas Lincoln was vying for the
same seat as a Republican1. Due to Douglas s political development, the campaign captivated
nationwide attention. Despite the fact that senators were selected by the state parliaments until 1913,
Lincoln and Douglas took their contentions straight to the citizens. The time of the operations, the

The color changes throughout the story symbolized setting changes and different stages in her journey.
The colors also represented danger, beauty, power, mood and identified characters and surroundings.
The story begins with the color gray. Dorothy s home, her dog Toto, the farm she lived on with her

Comparing IlĂșvatar In The Silmarillion And Lord Of The Rings

Analysis Of Terry Moore s Speech
Terry Moore s speech, How to tie your shoes , was printed in May of 2011, for the use and free
viewing of the public. He discusses the reality that many people do not know that they are actually
tying their shoes incorrectly, and he shares with the audience what he has found to be the proper way
to tie one s shoes. Throughout his speech, Moore uses stories, demonstrations, and lighthearted humor
to engage the audience and deliver his message. Though simple, Moore s speech has just the right
amount of quirkiness, fun, and technicality to be memorable for most viewers. He expertly tailors his
speech to be delivered to a unique audience at the Technology Entertainment and Design (TED).
Conference in February of 2005. The audience consists of mostly wealthy scholars and people
interested in gaining knowledge and insight. Terry Moore thinks that by showing the audience the

seeking. His speech about the proper technique of shoe tying to ensure that laces stay tied for longer
periods of time uses ethos, and his strongest writing strategy is his lighthearted and entertaining

credibility of the speaker, Terry Moore. Moore develops ethos by telling the audience a story about

How Does Hal Change In King Henry Iv Part 1
Hal is often referred to as the prodigal son of Shakespeare s King Henry IV Part I. Wasteful and lazy,
Hal is seen more often drinking in a tavern or robbing others than serving as the next king of England,
though he claims that to be all an act in Act I Scene II, where he promises to redeem himself.
However, this claim seems dubious at best, Hal immediately going to then play a trick on Falstaff and
rob him. However, things seem to change in Act III Scene II. In this scene, King Henry IV has called
his son to his castle to discuss the future of England and how Hal is acting less like a prince, and more
like the wretched King Richard II, who Henry IV disposed to take the throne. Hal replies to his father,
promising that he will redeem himself in his father s eyes and in the eyes of the English noblemen by
killing Hotspur, one of the leaders of the rebellion against the king. This speech marks a major
character shift in Hal and his motivations shift from drinking and lounging about, to that of
redemption and honor through battle. This character shift is seen through many literary devices, such
as the religious and familial diction, the personification of Hal s actions, and the juxtaposition between

The Themes Of Girish Karnad
Girish Karnad is one of such committed Indian performing artists of the present times. As he is a socio
politically most sensitive and mature citizen, apart from being an artist, though he does not adhere to
any political ideology, he has fearlessly expressed his views on different occasions at different
platforms. As a responsible artist, he has given vent to the concerns over the contemporary religious
and communal tensions. Parvathi Menon stated that Karnad has been a bitter critic in recent years of
the rise of religious fundamentalism in India. He publicly condemned the destruction of the Babri

Devadatta marries Padmini who while appreciating Devadatta, is attracted to Kapila. Both are
confused about their relationship with Padmini. In desperation, Devadatta offers his head to Goddess
Kali; Kapila does the same. In the ghastly situation, as Padmini prepares to kill herself, Kali offers her
a boon. She asks Padmini to attach the heads to the torsos to bring Devadatta and Kapila back to life.
Kali as the Deliberating Shakti, Vimarsha Shakti is the energy of reasoning out and planning the
gradual evolution of the universe (Zimmer 211). But the play describes her as a drowsy and
exasperated Goddess. She is therefore the dual force of action and carries in one hand a sword
symbolic of physical extermination and spiritual decision and in the other bowl that yields abundance
of food (Seetha 194). This paradoxical creative and destructive force is the pivot on which develops
the theme and the action of the play. Goddess Kali who is so indifferent to human concerns exposes
the lie in their supposedly religious actions. The dialogues between Kali and Padmini are ironic. Kali
recalls her earlier days when she used to be awake because her devotees kept her awake with their
deafening racket with drums and conch shells and cymbals (Karnad 141). Criticizing the actions of
Devadatta and Kapila, she recalls their lies and comments for Padmini only she spoke the truth (28).

Since the beginning of time, man has been defined as a carnivore devouring all meets for their
cultural, religious and everyday lifestyles. But now, people are starting to realize that eating meat is
also harmful to the environment and our health. It has been said that becoming a vegetarian would
help prevent cruelty to animals and reduce the impact on the environment. An environmental scientist
named Thomas Robbins said we can eliminate world hunger out of society if people were to maintain
a vegetarian diet. Producing and manufacturing beef tend to leave our environment to suffer from air

In the end, switching to a vegetarian diet or just reducing amount of meat intake would vastly help to
conserve water in the future.
Other necessity s that society takes for granted that is suffering from a meat eating diet is water and
air. Have you ever wondered where all the waste from cows and other farm animals go? You might
think that it goes to help grow crops, which is true but much of the waste ends up contaminating water
tables and nearby rivers. Also animal waste is also held accountable for an estimated 15 percent of the
world s greenhouse gases, and that number is expected to rise 60 percent by 2030. You would think
most greenhouse gasses come from cars not farm animals, but you are wrong! Many farms today that
produce livestock use pesticides and other toxic materials to help eliminate bugs and other harmful
specimens. But some of these solutions tend to have an effect on humans and end up hurting the
nearby environment. As society steps into the future people need to realize that raising livestock could
threaten our everyday needs.
As the future of natural resources start to deplete, people need to start understanding eating meats does
not only affect the animal but if affects you as well. It is going to take an extensive effort for our
American culture to alter our eating habits and accept change into our daily lives. If humans were to
stop consuming meat, much livestock would decrees in farms, and many of our natural resources

Navajo Code Talkers
Navajo Code Talkers
National security of every country highly depends on secrecy maintainance, especially during
wartime. Secrecy is an important element of victory. However, it is important not only to code
messages but also to break enemy codes in order to gain military advantages. During the Second
World War it was very important for the United States to send and receive codes without any risk of
being deciphered. For this reason the language of American indigenous population of the Navajo was
chosen by the U.S. Marine Corps. This paper focuses on contributions made by the Navajo Code
Talkers during the Second World War. The military enemies of the United States did not manage to
break the code. One of the reasons why the Navajo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, they were sworn to secrecy and did not share the information even with their families.
Indians were admitted to the construction of the code only after the training. The initial problem was
that the Navajo language did not contain equivalents for English military terms and phrases. That is
why it was a difficult task to transfer military terminology into the Navajo language. However, it was
recognized that the code should have been both unbreakable and simple, because under combat
conditions rapid transmission and translation of messages was of high importance.Long phrases might
appear ineffective and inefficient. The Navajos decided to choose words that had direct association
with nature, birds, and common Navajo life in order to avoid perplexity (Townsend 2000, 146).
Generally, there were two methods of communication. According to Townsend (2000, 147), the first
method concerned a words for alphabet system. This method was used to code some terms that could
not easily be replaced with a specific word. It was ineffective to affix an Indian word to any random
Pacific island. According to the alphabet method, each letter of the English alphabet was replaced by
with an Indian word. For example, Tarawa Island was coded as turkey ant rabbit ant weasel ant . In
Navajo, this would be pronounced as Than zie, wol la chee, gah, wol lo chee, gloe ih, wol la chee .
Some English letters were represented by diverse terms in order to increase the

Sierra Leone, A Country Most Notoriously Known For Its...
Sierra Leone is a country most notoriously known for its humanitarian problems associated with
conflict diamonds. These luxury items have caused numerous individuals residing in the third world
country to lose their lives or lose the ability to live a fruitful life. In addition to their humanitarian
issues, they are also plagued by issues of bad governance. Their recent civil war that took place during
most of the 1990s had tainted the citizens views on what an effective government could do. To
complicate matters further, there was also a recent disastrous Ebola outbreak that not only harmed the
residents in great numbers, but also the already hindered economy. Their economy, heavily instilled in

worldwide and ensure that the basis for these diamonds do not infringe upon basic human rights ( KB

in an attempt to reduce violations of humanitarian rights.
The World Bank is overseeing a request for the The Emergency Economic and Fiscal Support

This is a necessity in Sierra Leone as repression is what drove their recent civil war.
The United Nations Environmental Program has been in Sierra Leone to address the environmental

Analyzing Audit And Fraud Risks
Analyzing Audit and Fraud Risks
Audit risk, as defined in SAS No. 47, under Audit Risk and Materiality in Conducting an Audit , is the
kind of risk that an auditor may unknowingly take by failing to make corrections as per their opinions
on financial statements that are materially misstated (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). SAS represents
audit risk in the form of a model that comprises three different risks. There is the control risk, the
inherent risk and detection risk. This is known as the Audit Risk Model (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur
34).
As a way of increasing awareness of possible fraud, SAS No. 82 Consideration of Fraud in a Financial
Statement Audit , was issued in 1997 (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). This SAS does not modify the
basic ARM, but it expands on the guidance for the auditor s consideration of material fraud in
conducting financial statement audits. The SAS increases an auditor s ability to detect fraud in an
organization.
Since the issuance of SAS No. 47, many other approaches of developing the ARM have been issued
(Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). One such approach is the belief function framework that is used to
model the audit planning and evaluation process for accounts receivable. While using such an
approach, it is easier to demonstrate the viability of the auditors. The approach also serves as an expert
system to automate belief functions propagations in networks. More so, sensitivity analyses have been
performed to identify the significance of

Sexual tension leads to a highly charged, dramatic demise for Blanche and Eddie
The characters of Blanche and Eddie are closely linked by several factors, including the reasons
behind their cantankerous endings in the plays A Streetcar Named Desire and A View from the Bridge
. Williams and Miller characterize Blanche and Eddie through their sexuality, which is a very
important theme in both plays.
Both characters show traces of mental instability; Blanche perhaps more so than Eddie, as throughout
the play there are constant reminders to the audience that Blanche s already feeble mental state is
deteriorating. For example, when Blanche recalls the death of her young husband , Tennessee
Williams cleverly has the music of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately as they are both strong characters, one of the two has to come out a victor of their rivalry.
Stanley is strong but Blanche successfully establishes a foothold in his house during the first third of
the play and even shames him into acting somewhat sheepishly by the end of scene one. However,
Blanche s ascendancy does not last long and eventually we see Stanley regain his primitive masculine
supremacy. This then progresses towards the end of the play, to complete lack of respect for Blanche
herself, as in scene ten a drunk Stanley rapes her while her sister is in hospital; an unpleasant victory
over a weakened Blanche is the very peak of tension between the two.
The main tension experienced in A View from the Bridge is due to the great contrast between how
Eddie sees Catherine, and how she sees him. In Eddie s world, he imagines protecting Catherine from
marriage or any male relationship and wants her for himself. While Eddie wavers and switches
between communal and state laws and cultures to discriminate against Rodolpho, his motivations do
not change, regardless of the fact it is often at the expense of others. Throughout the play, Miller
creates uncomfortable situations for the reader/viewer, caused by the emergence of Eddie s unusual
love for Catherine. This is shown in particular in act one, when Catherine

Creating Equal Groups Of The Classroom Essay
To introduce the concept of division, I will have the students take out their notebooks and title their
pages division fact families. I will ask the students to tell me what they think that division means, and
after some discussion, I will ask them to write that division is used to share equally or create equal
groups. I will ask the students to give me some examples of when they needed to create equal groups
of something. I will provide an example of Halloween candy bags, and making sure that each bag has
the same amount in order to be fair. I will choose a few students to share. Next twelve students will be
asked to come to the front of the room. They will be asked to physically create three equal groups. The
rest of the class will be asked how groups do we have? (3) and how many students are in each group?
(4). Then I will write the multiplication fact 3 x 4 = 12. The students will be asked to make one group
again, then to physically create four equal groups. Once they do this, I will ask the same two questions
to the class, how many groups do we have? (4) and how many students are in each group? (3). Then I
will write the multiplication fact 4 x 3 = 12 on the board below the other fact. Those students will sit
down, and new students will come to the front of the room. I will ask them to stand in one group, then
form three groups. I will write 12Ă·3=4 on the board. Then I will ask them to form one group again,
then to make 4 equal groups, and I will write 12Ă·4=3

Analysis Of Rafael Alcides Nadie At The Woodland Theater
I went to the showing of Nadie at the Woodland Theater. This film was apart of the Latin American
Studies week at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. This film was a documentary about Rafael
Alcides, a poet from Cuba. This film was mostly an interview with Alcides, who talked about his life
and living through the Cuban Revolution. This in depth interview ranges from the struggle of how
Alcides, a once famous person, is now nadie or nobody. Alcides is currently in the process of trying to
save his work as most of his writing is written in fading ink. Additionally, his interview discusses at
length about how he views the revolution like an old girlfriend . After Fidel Castro died, he and many
others realized their lifelong fight was for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason this film was able to do that is through the way that director Miguel Coyula was able
manipulate so many of the images within his shots to fit the interview and add emphasis to the words
of Alcides. I have not studied Cuba s history much, so I found this film to be incredibly informative. I
loved Rafael Alcides s story! This film was a very abstract form of art that was a little difficult to
process. I am still trying to grasp it all, but overall I found that this film accomplished everything that
it set out to do. The best part of going to this event was being able to stay for the Q A session
following the movie with director Miguel Coyula. I learned a lot more about how Coyula was able to
manipulate his shots and animate certain portions of the film. Coyula also explained that this film is
heavily censored in Cuba. In fact, he told us that he is banned from showing his film in Cuba. This
film was also rejected by the Miami Film Festival because of their being so many Cubans who could
see it and by Michael Moore and his Detroit Film Festival because of the negative messages about
Cuba this film might send. To sum up the whole event, I am so happy that I was able to attend this
showing; I learned a lot about Cuba, the Cuban Revolution, and the devastation that many Cubans feel
after the failure of the

Benefits Of Raising The Driving Age
Being able to drive your first car is an amazing, once in a lifetime experience that most under the age
of 16 excitingly wait for. If you weren t aware, you are able to legally start driving, but what if that
was taken away? There is an idea that in order for you to drive, you have to be at least twenty one.
This will bring on a slough of consequences. Some consequences may be fantastic like decreased
accidents. Some consequences may seem minor like invalidating younger drivers, but they will turn
into a worse situation. Intriguing isn t it? This idea should not even be considered. Therefore, they
should not raise the driving age and should keep it the way it is. This is necessary because young
adults deserve the right to drive. In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an article titled, Pro/Con! Should 16 Be the Driving Age, which is written by Laura Sky Brown
(who happens to be a mother of teenagers) in 2014. The article states, I am in favor of graduated
driver s license programs, which have been rolled out all over the United States...This allows students
to get driving privileges gradually over a period of time, not all at once... The Insurance Institute for
Highway Safety feels strongly that the older teenagers are when they start driving, the fewer accidents
they will get in. If you want your eyes opened, spend some time on the IIHS s risk calculator for teen
drivers. You can dial in your state and see how many fewer accidents there d be with more supervised
driving hours, a longer time between permit and license, and other scenarios. Further in the passage, it
states, So, yes, graduated driver s license laws, which require teens to spend a long time practicing
with an adult co driver and to take a second segment of driver education before the test, are a good
way to drag out the process so kids have as much practice time as possible before they re allowed to
go solo. But when should they start the process? Young, when parents and teachers can still have an
influence. These pieces of evidence prove that measures have already been taken that brought down
the accidents, will continue to bring down accidents and will soon bring down accidents. To

  • 2. Changes In Aggregate Demand And Short-Run Aggregate Supply 1. Explain how the following changes in aggregate demand or short run aggregate supply, other things held unchanged, are likely to affect the level of total output and the price level in the short run. The level of total output and the price level are determined in the short run by the intersection of the short run aggregate supply curve and the aggregate demand curve (Rittenberg and Tregarthen, 2012). Therefore, if you know how the changes in aggregate demand or short run aggregate supply will shift their respective curves, you can explain how the changes will affect the level of total output and the price level. An increase in aggregate demand An increase in aggregate demand will shift the aggregate demand curve to the right. This will cause the aggregate demand curve to intersect the short run aggregate supply curve at a point above and to the right of the previous equilibrium point. This means that total output and price levels will rise. In the graph below, the shift in the aggregate demand curve to the right was caused by an increase in government purchases, this led to a new intersection or equilibrium point from P1 to P2. The new intersecting point is at a higher price level and higher output level. Source: (Rittenberg and Tregarthen, 2012) A decrease in aggregate demand A decrease in aggregate demand would have the opposite effect to the increase in aggregate demand that was discussed in the above answer. With a decrease in aggregate demand, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Green Eggs and Ham is about how Sam wants his friend to try green eggs and ham, and after much convincing, he tries them and likes them ( WikiSummaries , 2016). The theme of this book is about how you shouldn t make up your mind about something without trying it. This book is about imagination and the genre of the story is comedy. I remember reading this book for the first time and I really enjoyed the book because it was funny and it was fun to read. I also learned a lot from this book because the theme is about how you shouldn t make up your mind about something without trying it. • 4. The Battle of la Drang in Vietnam Lieutenant Colonel Moore led his unit, the 1st Battalion, 7th U.S. Cavalry to South Vietnam, and led them in the famous Battle of Ia Drang. Surrounded by enemy soldiers, and with no clear landing zone that would allow them to leave, Moore managed to persevere against the overwhelming odds and complete his objective. Moore s dictum that there is always one more thing you can do to increase your odds of success and the courage of his entire command are given credit with the outstanding outcome (Galloway). Despite the fact that Moore s outstanding leadership and tactical prowess led to more than a 4 to 1 ratio between North Vietnamese casualties and U.S. casualties in their first major engagement of the war. With Herrick s platoon was cut off from the rest of the battalion and surrounded by numerous NVA, Lieutenant Bob Taft s 3rd Platoon of Alpha Company confronted approximately 150 Vietnamese soldiers advancing down the length and sides of the creek bed toward the battalion trying to reach Herrick,s platoon. 3rd Platoon s troops were told to drop their packs and move forward for the assault. The resulting exchange was costly for 3rd Platoon, causing its leading forces of the assault to be quickly cut down. 3rd Platoon was forced to pull back from the assault due to the numerous casualties, and Taft was killed while leading pulling his men back. Sergeant Lorenzo Nathan, a Korean War veteran, took command and 3rd Platoon was able to halt the NVA advance down the creek bed (X Ray). The NVA forces shifted their attack to 3rd Platoon s right flank in an attempt to flank Bravo. Their advance was quickly stopped by Lieutenant s Marm s 2nd Platoon from Alpha Company situated on Bravo s left flank. Moore had ordered Captain Nadal to lend Bravo one of his platoons, in an effort to allow Herren to attempt to fight through to Herrick s platoon position. . It is quickly apparent that the enemy force is determined to overrun and kill every American on the field. The afternoon was consumed in a desperate fire storm battle for survival in 100 degree heat for Moore and his men against a superior force as far into the jungle as possible and both fought to control the edges of the clearing ... • 6. Self-Realization In The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls One of the things that amazed me the most about The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls was that even though she had basically been brainwashed by her own father, she still came to terms with what she wanted out of her life and became a success. For her entire childhood, her parents did not even think she would amount to anything because she had no real skills, and her father did try and push her towards a life in science. However, in high school, Jeannette realized she had a passion for journalism; which is how she ended up turning herself into a success. Her story of triumph against all odds, and finding what someone really wants to do was what really inspired me. The theme of self realization in The Glass Castle of what a person s beliefs are even in the face of adversity is something I have been able to relate to in my life. For my entire life I have been raised Catholic, and for a while that is really all I knew. I was baptised as a baby, I was confirmed in second grade, I went to sunday school, and I ... She was a pretty devout Catholic, and I guess I stayed religious because I was subconsciously afraid she would not feel the same way if I realized I was atheist, then told her that. However, once she found out that I was moving back to Ohio, we stopped talking. I then went most of my junior without even thinking of what my beliefs were. • 7. Volkswagen Case Study Being the second largest car manufacturer in the world, Volkswagen really dug themselves a deep hole. According to Bocconi Students Investment Club, The company was discovered cheating on the emission tests by installing software that limits the harmful fumes produces but only while the vehicle is being tested. Once on the road, the company s vehicles emission levels exceed the norm by 10 40 times. While reading the Bocconi Students Investment Club that you have provided for us, it goes in depth about how this scandal was suppose to help Volkswagen become the first car manufacturer in the world. Volkswagen ethically broke the law by installing these software systems in their vehicles that lower the NOx levels in the engine of their vehicles ranging from 2009 2015. According to BSIC, At the core of this scandal are the so called defeat devices installed by Volkswagen on some 11 million cars worldwide. At the moment legal charges have been brought up on roughly 482,000 diesel vehicles operating in the US under VW and Audi badges. This investigation started to occur in 2015. According to BSIC When the software dented that it was being tested, it would change to an alternate engine configuration, lowering toxic NOx levels in exchange for a drop in performance and fuel economy. Since this discussion about what Volkswagen did, they have lost a lot of their business. Consumers are not going to want to buy vehicles from this company any more because of how much money it would cost them to get their car fixed. This dispute has hurt a lot of people in the process. For an example, it is hurting the consumers because they have to get their vehicle fixed, the company itself because they are under lawsuits and potential fines. According to BSIC The serious implications for the firm are expected to not only include costs arising from fines, lawsuits and recall costs, but also criminal and civil chargers pursued against individuals directly responsible for the incident. By having all of these lawsuits and recall costs it is going to cost Volkswagen a lot of money in the long run. At the same time, Puritans ethics initiated a formal and instrumental approach to life (115). In the case of the Pinto Disaster, Weber would claim that Ford s decision to settle in lawsuits, instead of installing the safety gadget, is a mathematical approach to life. Firstly, Weber would argue that bureaucracies structure has created a hierarchy system where workers are powerless and have fewer obligations. • 9. Employee Compensation and Benefits Packages Employee Compensation and Benefits Packages Introduction: A company s compensation and benefits package will likely be a great determinant of the quality of its personnel and the stake that these employees feel that they have in the hiring organization. This is why it is incumbent upon an organization to choose a compensation and benefits strategy that is at once consistent with internal values, needs and expectations and respects the external forces of industry standards, market context and geographical impact. Company Type: These factors must be taken together in developing a package for a firm such as ours. A small but growing company specializing in high end food delivery is in the process of expanding to a new facility. This will require new hires and more responsibilities for long term personnel. Therefore, a new compensation approach is required. Because our company is located in a metropolitan area, it is also of importance that our compensation package be competitive within the context. There is a high variance from one major metropolitan area to another, but this context is uniformly likely to require a higher compensation package commensurate with the cost of living. As the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) (2013) reports, total compensation, wages and salaries, and benefit costs in private industry are included in this release for 15 combined and metropolitan statistical areas (CSAs and MSAs). Total compensation costs for the 15 metropolitan areas ranged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Case Study Of Saint Chinian Saint Chinian, a vineyard you must visit Talking about vineyards and one of the first names that comes to my mind is of Saint Chinian, a small and beautiful village located in South France. It has a dry and Mediterranean climate which is best suited for vineyards. It boasts of some of the most famous vineyards and even has a famous wine named after it, called the Saint Chinian wine which is produced from here only. The vines that are planted on the slopes of the hills surrounding this exotic place produce some of the very high quality wines you would find in the entire world. Saint Chinian is known mainly for its roses, and the unusual whites. The maximum numbers of the vines planted are of reds and roses which are called Grenache, Syrah, and Mouvedre. The rest is white and are named Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne Carignan, Clairette, Viognier, Bourboulenc, and more. Here s a bit on the different varieties of the Mediterranean wine. Grenache Noir produces wines with aromatics of raspberry red fruits and mixed spice with rounded tannins. Syrah produces wines with intense aromatics of blackberry fruits, pepper spice and violets, and gives great color and structure. • 11. Literary Analysis Of Mother To Son By Langston Hughes Cocar Poems just seem to be stanzas with a bunch of words but in reality, it is beyond just a bunch of words, more like an intense significance. Many authors tend to send out an impacting message throughout poems. Usually authors write poems about occurrences that they ve experienced to express how they ve dealt with certain situations or people. Making it easy for the readers to also catch on to their vibe and main idea of the whole poem. In Langston Hughes poem, Mother to Son Hughes writing exemplifies the intricate trial and tribulations that a black person, specifically black men have in this country. Hughes demonstrates through his writing about the staircase he s able to explain the racial conflicts that many black people had faced. With Hughes use of metaphors, symbolism imagery he s able to perfect both a mother s concern for her child along with the general concern many had with race relations at the time. Throughout the poem Mother to Son , Langston Hughes uses an informative tone to express how much the mother wants to guide her son in what she has already been through. The metaphor that was seen in the poem was that the staircase represented the mother s life. In Mother s to Son , Hughes writes, It s had tacks in it and splinters . This is basically referring to the mother s suffering she had to live with in and out of her life. Of course, tacks and splitters do not freeze your life and make everything impossible, but with those two things you do endure pain. The next two lines, And boards torn up, and places with no carpet on the floor (lines 5 6.) Hughes shows that no matter what hardships she had to face, she continued with her life. The mother makes sure to explain clearly to her son that no matter what life hit her with she battled through it all even when it was almost made impossible. The Cocar metaphor used proves that she never gave in to her problems, she continued with all the scars she got along the way reaching for the best. Chidi Ikonne, writing in the collection Langston Hughes, suggests that this and other poems by Hughes present a stance of stability which, ironically, has developed from the ... • 12. The Success Of The Doomsday Machine In Diplomacy, authored by Henry Kissinger, the lack of respect to the differing the balance of power principles in separate countries of europe Europe, the bullying strategies by Germany, the poor diplomatic alliances of Germany, Austria, France, Britain and Russia, and the lack of understanding of differing Military policies by Germany all lead to the Doomsday Machine. The Doomsday Machine was made up of all the actions that resulted in the ripping apart of the diplomatic alliances, with each alliance having too much at stake to permit the Concert of Europe diplomacy to function. Instead, the Concert of Europe and its ideas about the balance of power were abolished. Kissinger mainly discusses the multiple diplomatic alliances that led to the inevitable breakout of war. Most of the conflicts could have been avoided, but many of the leaders of the European countries, mainly Germany and Russia, seemed not to consider the long term implications of their decisions. Germany s actions started diplomatic disputes with France, Britain, and Russia. The three countries inherently formed an alliance with each other and isolated Germany in Europe. On the part of Russia, their main objective seemed to start a war instead of look for peace or seek a compromise. The leaders were often unwilling to politically negotiate because they had much of their own land and activities on the Eastern front, and therefore almost nothing to lose. In most of the problems we work with the true demand curve constructed from the reservation prices of the consumers rather than the smoothed demand curve that we used in the text. Remember that the reservation price of a consumer is that price where he is just indiïŹ€erent between renting or not renting the apartment. • 15. Adam Liszt As A Principal Figure In The Romantic Movement Liszt was not only a principal figure in the Romantic Movement but also a composer of enormous originality and arguably the greatest piano virtuoso of his time. A controversial character, he was attacked for his innovations, talent and flair by his jealous rivals. As a composer, he radically extended the technique of piano writing, extended the harmonic language, and later developed chromatic harmony which led eventual breakdown of tonality revolutionizing the music of the era. As a pianist Liszt was the first to give complete solo recitals, and he did a great deal to encourage the performance of music by Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Berlioz, Wagner, and Robert Schumann by transcribing their works for piano and playing them in his concerts at a time when they were insufficiently appreciated. He also helped younger composers, and he taught a number of pupils who themselves became famous virtuosos. When Franz was five years old; he was already attracted to the piano and was soon given lessons by his father, Adam Liszt. He began to show interest in both church and Gypsy music. Franz began to compose at the age of eight and at only nine years old, he made his first public appearance as a concert pianist. He gave several concerts in Vienna, with great success. Liszt moved with his family to Paris in 1823. Liszt s Paris debut on March 7, 1824, was sensational. Between 1830 and 1832, Liszt met three fellow composers who were to have a great influence on his artistic life, Hector ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Federal Government Regulate The Insurance Industry Background The federal government s role is in regulating industries is to protect consumers and the market. There is an ongoing debate on whether the federal government should regulate the insurance industry as a result of the bailouts stemming from the Financial Crisis of 2008. Currently, state governments regulate the insurance industry. Proponents of federal regulation reason that states are inefficient in the duty of insurance regulation. Additionally, the federal government has economies of scale and may offer an increase in efficiency unlike state regulation. The federal government regulates industries due to inherent systemic risk to the country s economic environment. Systemic risk is the risk of collapse of an entire financial system or market. (SOURCE) For example, banking institutions such as Lehman Brothers, Merrell Lynch, and Goldman Sachs were major contributors to the financial crisis in 2008 because these institutions were systemically significant to the market. The insurance industry and the core activities of the industry, however, were not a major contributor to near collapse of the American economy. The federal government should not regulate the insurance industry because it does not possess a systemic risk to the market economy, states have the ability and resources to regulate, and federal regulation would result in unnecessary costs from the federal budget. It appears that throughout the book Captain Nemo isn t telling all the facts about himself as Verne wants us to be curious about Captain Nemo s past. The only information that Captain Nemo gives us about himself is that he wanted to leave society. We realize this when he says I am not what you call a civilized being! That part in the book really shows us that Nemo is capable of caring for the new people, it shows us that under the crusty exterior Captain Nemo is a real softie. His serious bitterness is quite off putting at the beginning of the book. It makes you wonder what had to have happened to make him the way that he is. It may have been due to the fact that his wife and children got killed, it may have been because of untold reasons, his childhood, bad experiences with life itself, or a job failure. Either way it shows us that we, as humans can change just by spending time and investing in people. While reading 20,000 leagues under the sea I found myself wondering about how nice it would be to just go somewhere no one has been before and start again. Maybe Nemo was just tired of his everyday life where there were rules and expectations. He might have felt like there was nothing to stay for so he left to see the unknown depths of the ocean. His wartime experiences and their effects lead him to the ultimate conclusion that war is unexplainable. To portray this effectively, Vonnegut presents the story in two dimensions: historical and science fiction. The irrationality of war is emphasized in each dimension by contrasts in its comic and tragic elements. The historical seriousness of the Battle of the Bulge and the bombing of Dresden are contrasted by many ironies and dark humor; the fantastical, science fiction type place of Tralfamadore is, in truth, an outlet for Vonnegut to show his incredibly serious fatalistic views. ... The simplicity and innocence in the description of the tragic ends of the scouts are told in the simple sentence, Three inoffensive bangs came from far away. Billy doesn t say this to be unsympathetic, but rather from the shock of a war that alters his perception of life, and makes him unable to deal with reality in a normal way. • 37. Analysis Of Terry Moore s Speech Terry Moore s speech, How to tie your shoes , was printed in May of 2011, for the use and free viewing of the public. He discusses the reality that many people do not know that they are actually tying their shoes incorrectly, and he shares with the audience what he has found to be the proper way to tie one s shoes. Throughout his speech, Moore uses stories, demonstrations, and lighthearted humor to engage the audience and deliver his message. Though simple, Moore s speech has just the right amount of quirkiness, fun, and technicality to be memorable for most viewers. He expertly tailors his speech to be delivered to a unique audience at the Technology Entertainment and Design (TED). Conference in February of 2005. The audience consists of mostly wealthy scholars and people interested in gaining knowledge and insight. Terry Moore thinks that by showing the audience the correct way to tie their shoes, he would provide them with the quality enlightenment that they are seeking. His speech about the proper technique of shoe tying to ensure that laces stay tied for longer periods of time uses ethos, and his strongest writing strategy is his lighthearted and entertaining diction. Ethos is predominately used in the speech to connect to the audience and establish the credibility of the speaker, Terry Moore. Moore develops ethos by telling the audience a story about when he first learned the proper way to tie his shoes. By acknowledging that for many years he was unaware that he ... • 38. How Does Hal Change In King Henry Iv Part 1 Hal is often referred to as the prodigal son of Shakespeare s King Henry IV Part I. Wasteful and lazy, Hal is seen more often drinking in a tavern or robbing others than serving as the next king of England, though he claims that to be all an act in Act I Scene II, where he promises to redeem himself. However, this claim seems dubious at best, Hal immediately going to then play a trick on Falstaff and rob him. However, things seem to change in Act III Scene II. In this scene, King Henry IV has called his son to his castle to discuss the future of England and how Hal is acting less like a prince, and more like the wretched King Richard II, who Henry IV disposed to take the throne. Hal replies to his father, promising that he will redeem himself in his father s eyes and in the eyes of the English noblemen by killing Hotspur, one of the leaders of the rebellion against the king. This speech marks a major character shift in Hal and his motivations shift from drinking and lounging about, to that of redemption and honor through battle. • 48. Analyzing Audit And Fraud Risks Analyzing Audit and Fraud Risks Audit risk, as defined in SAS No. 47, under Audit Risk and Materiality in Conducting an Audit , is the kind of risk that an auditor may unknowingly take by failing to make corrections as per their opinions on financial statements that are materially misstated (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). SAS represents audit risk in the form of a model that comprises three different risks. There is the control risk, the inherent risk and detection risk. This is known as the Audit Risk Model (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). As a way of increasing awareness of possible fraud, SAS No. 82 Consideration of Fraud in a Financial Statement Audit , was issued in 1997 (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). This SAS does not modify the basic ARM, but it expands on the guidance for the auditor s consideration of material fraud in conducting financial statement audits. The SAS increases an auditor s ability to detect fraud in an organization. Since the issuance of SAS No. 47, many other approaches of developing the ARM have been issued (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). One such approach is the belief function framework that is used to model the audit planning and evaluation process for accounts receivable. While using such an approach, it is easier to demonstrate the viability of the auditors. The approach also serves as an expert system to automate belief functions propagations in networks. This then progresses towards the end of the play, to complete lack of respect for Blanche herself, as in scene ten a drunk Stanley rapes her while her sister is in hospital; an unpleasant victory over a weakened Blanche is the very peak of tension between the two. The main tension experienced in A View from the Bridge is due to the great contrast between how Eddie sees Catherine, and how she sees him. In Eddie s world, he imagines protecting Catherine from marriage or any male relationship and wants her for himself. While Eddie wavers and switches between communal and state laws and cultures to discriminate against Rodolpho, his motivations do not change, regardless of the fact it is often at the expense of others.
