West Side Story Play Analysis
West Side Story is about a conflict between two rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, which
comes to a head when Tony, a former Jets member, and Maria, the sister of the leader of the
Sharks, fall in love. Although the play centers around Tony and Maria, the character of Anita
(played by Karli Dinardo) caught my eye since she revealed her purple dress which was different
from the reds of the Sharks and blues of the Jets and I found myself drawn to her in each scene
she was present in. I also found myself drawn to members of the Sharks as I understood the racism
they faced from members of the Jets, Officer Krupke, and Detective Schrank. The characters of
Tony and Mariawere actually the characters I didn t really like as I saw them both as selfish.... Show

I found that many of the actors in West Side Story vocals fit well with their characters such as
Carly Evans soprano like voice that seemed so innocent to the world just like Maria. The
orchestra ability to match the emotions of the song or scene was very beneficial in letting the
audience know of Tony and Maria s undying love for each other in Tonight through the use of light
and upbeat notes or Anita s anger in A Boy Like Thatwhich uses harsher notes. The effects of the
characters emotions would not have been as evident if the instrumentals they sang along too
didn t match the emotions they felt. Although the play is surrounded by dark themes, there are
musical numbers with a tinge of comedic value such as in America where Rosalia praises Puerto
Rico through phrases such as Puerto Rico, you lovely island and Anita retorts back Puerto Rico,
you ugly island or Gee Officer Krupke where the Jets are joking as to what to say to Officer
Krupke ending the song with Gee, Officer Krupke. Krup you! . In many of the musical numbers,
there seems to be a kid friendly approach as profanity is nowhere to be found with the
replacement of words such as Buggin in the Jet Songs although slurs such as spic and brown boy
fill the script. Besides the musical numbers, there were also sound effects in

Adam Smith And Karl Marx
In his book Born in Blood Fire, John Chasteen defines Progress as any transformation that made
Latin America similar to European and US models, resulting in human improvement. These
transformations included the application of advanced technology, new political aspects, and
economic growth. Neocolonialism was born from Progress, which can be explained as the influence
foreign countries had on Latin Americas colonization. There was, however, different views on
which way Progress should be achieved Latin America. Adam Smith and Karl Marx are
examples of the main two views. Adam Smith, a Scottish Philosopher, was a critique of
controlled markets and supported the idea that consumers should be able to engage in a free
market in order to achieve overall self profit. As a believer in capitalism, Smith also viewed
private property and overall self interest as positives. Implementing these ideas without the
interference of the government, Smith believed, led to unlimited wealth and the most desirable
economic outcome. Karl Marx, on the contrary, believed that poor people suffered for the benefit
of the higher social class. Co author of the famous document, The Communist Manifesto, Marx
supported communism, the abortion of distinguished social classes, and developed into one of
the widely known critics of capitalism; Marx believe that the idea of capitalism gave an advantage
to the people who were already rich and gave no opportunity for the working class to rise socially or

Maternal Instinct in The Turn of the Screw Essay
Henry James The Turn of the Screw is one of the more disputed texts in all of literature, as it is
famously known as an ambiguous text. The primary uncertain element of is whether there are
ghosts scaring the governess and the children, or whether the governess is actually going insane.
Even though a certain portion of the text is ambiguous, there are other portions of the text that are
much more black and white. For example, the relationships in this novella are nothing close to
normal. There are three key relationships in The Turn of the Screw: the Governess and Mrs. Grose,
the Governess and Miles, and the governess and Flora. All of these relationships show how the
governess s maternal instinct influences her interactions and... Show more content on

However, going to Mrs. Grose for information is extremely maternal. Since there is a very real
possibility of danger, the governess wants to keep the children as safe as possible. The only way
she can protect Miles and Flora is by gathering information and becoming aware of what is going
on. Speaking of the children, the next relationship that must be focused upon is the one between
the governess and Flora, the estate owner s eight year old daughter. In the second chapter of the
story, the governess s maternal instinct shows up in the most simple of acts: she brings Flora
along with her to go pick up Miles. She does not have to bring Flora along at all. She could have
just left Flora at Bly manor, for Mrs. Grose and the other servants to take care of her. However,
since the governess is new, she has not yet had a chance to get to know everyone and how things
work. Therefore, the governess probably does not trust the others at Bly estate, and the only
way to keep an eye on Flora is to bring her on the trip and exercising her protective maternal
instinct. A second example of the governess exercising her maternal relationship can be found on
page 68 of The Turn of the Screw. In this scene, the governess goes to Flora s bedroom to check
and see if she is alright. Right when it is clear that Flora is not in her bed, the governess caught my
breath with, all the terror that, five minutes ago, I had been able to resist (James 68). Quite simply,
it was the

Standard cost of direct labour is calculated by multiplying the standard labour hour (comprised of
both the manufacturing standard hour and packing standard hour) and standard labour hour rate.
Finally, to calculate the standard cost of overhead, the overhead costs are distributed to different
departments say production department and service department which is called primary
distribution and then the costs of service departments are redistributed to production departments
which is called secondary distribution. From that, the variable and fixed overhead rate is
calculated. By multiplying the rates with the standard labour hour of a product, the fixed and
variable overhead can be got. At last, standard direct material cost, standard direct labour cost and
standard overhead cost are added to get the total standard cost of a product.
In cost variance analysis, the deviation between standard cost and actual cost of a cost element is
calculated. If actual cost is greater than the standard cost, then situation is called unfavourable and
if the actual cost is lower than the standard cost, then the situation is called favourable. By
calculating different cost variances, the company can take precautionary actions.
There are some major weaknesses in standard costing procedure and cost variance analysis. In
standard costing procedure, the standard

Characteristics Of The Rich In The Victorian Era
Victorian Era England Lifestyles were quite diverse depending on where you lived and how much
money you had. The rich were well off while the poor were complete opposites. Although the rich
had great lives, I would not wish to live in that time period. In Victorian England, the rich were
very well off and had a lot of putative luxuries. One nice thing about being rich then, were the
beautiful, elegant houses and what went on inside them. A wealthy family... would have lived in a
large house with at least three storeys (Durham University), many rooms, and servants. It may not
seem important to living someone here in America today, but their children got very good
educations. As crazy as this may seem, many of the families would not use their kitchen [because]
all their food would have been prepared by servants (Durham University). Another luxury the rich
had were their clothes. Unlike the poor, the wealthy had plenty of clothing, and often the women
needed help getting dressed (Durham University) because under most of their dress were extremely
tight corsets and large hoop skirts called crinolines. The men wore, along with their suits, various
assortments and combinations of waistcoats, hats, pocket watches, handkerchiefs, and gloves. The
children wore miniature versions of adult clothes (Durham University); boys wore dresses until
they were about five (Durham University), and some kids wore sailor suits, but crinolines were not
wore until much older. Both housing

The Significance of Jane Eyre s Relationship With Helen Burns
The Significance of Jane Eyre s Relationship With Helen Burns
Jane Eyre is a classical novel written in 1947 by Charlotte Bronte, who at the time was also
known as Currer Bell . This timeless piece is based on the life of an orphaned girl named Jane
Eyre who begins her life under the care of an Aunt, Mrs. Reed. Both Jane s parents have died
within only a year of her birth leaving Mrs. Reed with the responsibility of Jane s well being.
However, Mrs. Reeds treatment towards Jane is purely absurd and only provides the child with the
bare necessities of life, such as food, clothes and shelter.
Her Aunt as well as her only cousins resent Jane. She is an outcast, but nevertheless at only the age

She dies of consumption and Jane is left alone with Helen dead in her arms.
The importance of friendship is considered a significant element throughout this noel. Soon after
Jane Eyre joined Lowood, she meets Helen Burns, She was the only person who was consistently
nice to Jane. Ever since the first night when Helen provided Jane with food, Jane realized that
Helen was a kind hearted and noble person and decided therefore that Helen was her first and best
friend.
In contrast to Helen s personality, Jane has the total opposite approach to life. She is short
tempered and will say what she thinks despite the circumstances. She is sincere, straightforward
and does not fear to articulate her point of view however fallacious it may be.
One factor of Jane Eye which interests the reader is the relationship between Jane, her Aunt and her
cousins, compared to Jane s relationship with Helen. Despite the blood relation between Jane and
her aunt and cousins, they treat Jane with sincere disrespect and animosity.
Then Mrs. Reed subjoined: Take her away to the red room, and lock her in there . Four hands were
immediately laid upon me, and I was borne upstairs .
Jane s Aunt is a selfish woman and despite knowing the fact that Jane has no other relative, she still
lacks any sympathetic feeling towards her. Jane

Analysis Of The Book Big Two Hearted River
According to Hemingway biographer James R. Mellon, Hemingway regarded Big Two Hearted
River as the climactic story in [his short story collection] In Our Time and the culminating episode
in the Nick Adams adventures that he included in the book.
That comment ought to spark the curiosity of readers of this story, for, on the surface, very little
happens in the story. Seemingly, it goes nowhere. If, however, one has read Thoreau s Walden, it is
relatively easy to see that Hemingway is portraying Nick Adams attempt to achieve a bonding with
nature that Thoreau, in 1845, was seeking when he decided to live a simple, semi solitary life at
Walden Pond. In Walden, Thoreau says: I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately .

Ultimately, the traditional Christian symbols of fishing and water become symbolic of Nick s
being rebaptized into life. However, even though two prominent Western world symbols have been
mentioned thus far, this is not a story whose meaning relies on symbols. Instead, it is a realistic
account of a fishing trip during which Nick regains control of his life.
Two major, over arching themes can be seen in each part: recovery in Part I and recollection in
Part II.
Nick s recovery begins here as Nick goes alone to a deserted area along the fictional Two Hearted
River (Michigan s Fox River) in the upper peninsula of northern Michigan, where he can see
Lake Superior from a hilltop, where there was no town, nothing but the rails and the burned over
country. . . . It was all that was left of the town of Seney. The symbolism here is fairly obvious:
Nick is leaving the burned, destroyed portions of his life behind, hoping and searching for renewal
on the rich, green, and fertile river bank of the big Two Hearted River. Nick, however, does not go
immediately to the river; instead, he gets off the train and pauses on a bridge, watching trout that
are far below him in the stream. It is important to note here that Nick is looking down onto the river
and the trout, which

Trudeau s Role In Canadian Identity
Today, Canada is known as a developed, independent country with people of different cultures. The
Canadian identity has unique cultures and characteristics that set them apart from the rest of the
world. Since the mid 20th century, Canada underwent many changes that shaped Canada into what
it is today. The Women s Movements, immigration after the 1950s, and the rule of Pierre Trudeau
played important roles in the growth and shaping of the Canadian identity. The Women s

Immigration after 1950s prompted people from all over the world to move to Canada, and
change it into the multicultural country it is today. In the 1950s, most immigrants arrived from
the British Isles, as Canada favoured English and French immigrants because they spoke the
same languages. In 1962, Canada changed its immigration regulations so that all races and
nationalities were included. As a result, most immigration was now from Asia and Caribbean.
However, the changed regulations did not just allow anyone to enter Canada. A new point
system was introduced in 1967, to determine the desirability of the individuals applying
(Troper). Under this system, there was an increase in immigrants from India, Pakistan, Hong
Kong and West Indies. By the 1970s, Canada was attracting a lot of immigrants because of its
open immigration policy, and because USA s immigration was difficult. To add to that, Canada
also opened its doors to refugees, and in the 1970s, refugees made up about 10 percent of the
yearly wave of immigration to Canada (Winnick 19). In 1977, a new version of the citizenship Act
was developed, getting rid of differences among people. The citizens were encouraged to retain
their culture, and since 1972 there has been a minister of multiculturalism to protect traditions of
cultures. In addition, the immigration Act of 1978 opened Canada s doors and Canada

Success Extended Definition
Success relies on how high we, as individuals, set our standards. Everyone has their own idea and
vision of what success is. My definition for success is an accomplishment. First, when I state that
success is an accomplishment I mean any type of achievement. Whether it is overcoming
destitutions or becoming rich and famous, if it is a goal that has been attained, then it is a triumph.
Second, a successful person that I absolutely have to mention is Michael Clifford. He is famous
and a quite wealthy performer, but he has succeeded as a person he has conquered mental and
physical distresses. Last, my mother is a triumph in the rawest way. She has survived and fought
through multiple troublesome issues that most peoplewould not be able to. Though... Show more

many people are deemed successes, but Michael Clifford is a success in every way. He has
defeated hardships, he has a high income job that he loves, and he is content with whatever he gets
as well. Then again, my mother is also a large success. My lovely mother, has conquered and faced
hardship after hardship while at the same time raising three daughters. That is definitely a feat to be

Examples Of Secular Humanism
Secular Humanism
What is Secular Humanism? Well I will be describing it to you throughout this essay. Secular
Humanism is basically a humanist way of thinking. This idea revolves around people believing in
a naturalist type world where people don t believe in a higher power to solve problems. It is mostly
about human reasoning, social justice, and naturalism where you make calls and judgments based
on what you think is right and wrong and not what someone else said in a book.
Now for the definitions gathered from multiple books. The first definition, Any set of moral
principles or school of moral philosophy whose values do not derive from religion or believe in the

Furthermore, we have the different labels that are tagged with Secular humanism. There are many
different names for this particular idea simply because there are so many versions all over the
world, but here are a few that I have noticed while reading through book after book. There are
names like, Naturalist [which I have used above a few times], Anti Religion, Non Theism, Atheism,
Agnosticism, Theism, Freethought, and many others from different countries. Depending on how
people live their life as a Secular Humanist they have either more intense or less intense names for
those whom are willing to give themselves that title.
Lastly, we get to the examples of Secular Humanism. There are actually a lot more people who
were Secular Humanists then I thought, but I don t know them all without looking it up on the
internet so I ll just list the ones that are mentioned in Paul Kurtz book What is Secular Humanism?
Here are the people Kurtz listed in his book from history, Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Galileo,

Child Observation Report Essay

on weekends. Most of the kids that are in the preschool class were three years old, but there was
one five year old. The kids I helped baby sit were two twin three year old girls, and one five year
old.
When I first arrived at the preschool, the kids seemed very shy towards me and they did not seem
like they were very sociable. I was a stranger to them, and I would have to guess that all of the
children were experiencing a little bit of stranger anxiety. I talked to my mother about how the

Moon Phases
Have you ever doubted what creates the moon phases? It is known that its appearance evolves over
times. But why? The best method to understand the phases of the moon is to scrutinize the aspects
of astronomy.
First of all, we need to wipe out the most commonly held misconception about the moon s phases.
The typical reason given for the cause of the moon phases is that we are observing the shadow of
the Earth on the Moon! But it s not true. When the Moon goes through the shadow of the Earth, we
obtain a lunar eclipse. The reality is that the moon crosses through the Earth s shadow only
occasionally, so that can t be the reason of moon s phases.
The actual reason for the moon s phases focuses on two prime aspects: the moon has a round shape
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This phase is known as full moon because it becomes fully illuminated by the sunlight. This is the
one and only period in an entire month when the Earth s shadow is anywhere next to the moon.
The shadow of the Earth directly points towards the moon at this time. But the moon moves above
or below the shade and no eclipse generates.
After one week, the moon has crossed another quarter of the path around the Earth. It remains in the
third quarter position at that time. And the sunlight directly falls on the other fraction of the visible
part of the moon.
Finally, after a week, the moon returns to the starting position, known as the new moon . Generally,
it moves above or below the sun, but it rarely arrives right in front of the sun, and we have an
eclipse of the sun.
So, it is prominent that the moon s phases are not produced by the shadow of the earth falling on
the moon. Actually, the shade of the Earth falls on the moon only for two times, when there are
lunar eclipses in a year.
There are apparently thousands of websites that reveal what creates the moon s phases. If you want
to know more about the changes of the moon s phases, you should definitely check out several

of the things that are expected of you when you are coming of age because you are getting closer
to being a responsible, mature and trustworthy adult. The reason that I think you are given more
responsibility when you are coming of age is because you are getting older and about ready to
move out of the house, and when you do there won t be any excuses for not doing things that you
are supposed to do because it s on you for not doing what you are supposed to do. With that, you
are given more and more responsibility until you come of age to get you ready for the real world....

Being mature means you have to know when to stop arguing and to respect others. You will be
expected to act like an adult even if you aren t one because if you don t learn how to before you
come of age, you won t be respected properly and it will be hard to get through life without being
mature. Being mature is one of the key things to be in life. In addition to the following
expectations you are expected to be when coming of age, being trustworthy is another key
element to life for if you aren t trustworthy it s very likely that you won t get hire or get fired
from the job because how can someone give you a task if they don t trust that you ll do it. Being
trustworthy means to not only tell the truth at all times but to do the right thing when no one is

Causes And Treatment Of Cystic Fibrosis
Envision needing to breathe through a straw consistently, for whatever remains of your life. This
is the means by which people consistently feel while living with Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is
a deep rooted, genetic infection that influences numerous real organs. Sticky bodily fluid obstructs
the aviation route in the lungs and in addition pathways leading to the digestive framework in the
pancreas. This destructive illness has been examined for a considerable length of time with a
strong desire for a cure. Advancements in technological innovations will clear the way for a better

Researchers trust that this late knowledge will stimulate the development of better therapies
(Christensen 59). These treatments will extend and enhance the quality of living for the patients
suffering from Cystic Fibrosis.
Present day treatments cannot be productive if the patient is uninformed of their current condition.
All infants that are conceived in the United States are now tried for Cystic Fibrosis at childbirth.
This permits children to get treatment promptly. By administrating treatment from the minute the
child is conceived, it diminishes the possibility of scar tissue producing in the lungs. This is
imperative to the survival of Cystic Fibrosis patients on the grounds that once the tissue has
transformed into scar tissue it no more performs in the way that it should: supplying a sufficient
amount of oxygen to the individual. Once conceived, the infant will be given an examination
comprising of three sections, the simplest one being the sweat test. The sweat test will demonstrate
an overabundance of chloride ions due to the fact that the patients do not have the genetic material
to properly regulate the ions. Immoderate levels of salt have been the main indication of the illness
for as long as the disease has been discovered.
Analysts have found that Cystic Fibrosis happens on the long arm of chromosome 7. This data is
essential in the survival of the ill because that it helps in the researching and distributing

The Objectives Of The Sustainable Development Goals
Goal 14 of the Sustainable Development Goals aims to Conserve and sustainably use the oceans,
seas and marine resources for sustainable development. ( Open Working Group Proposal for
Sustainable Development Goals. ) Under this main goal lies seven sub goals, of which some are
more measurable than others. All goals can be measured with a quantifiable unit, although some
measurements may be harder to interpret than others. Goal 14.1 logically proves to be measurable,
as marine pollutionis a material measure. Target 14.2, to sustainably manage and protect marine and
coastal ecosystems can be interpreted and measured in various ways, whether it means to protect

During my master s degree at Villanova University, I conducted an experimental research under the
supervision of Dr. Jens O.M. Karlsson at Biothermal Sciences Laboratory . In this NSF funded
research position, I designed, built, and optimized different types of glass capillary microfluidic
devices, and utilized them for producing micro emulsions. Subsequently, these micro emulsions
were used for investigating ice nucleation and crystallization in supercooled ultrapure water, for
which I used high speed imaging technique in conjunction with a powerful optical microscope and

implementing this vision will require revolutionary organizational change, particularly in sales.
Frank has already replace the EVP because he did not support the new philosophy Frank was

Intersect must create an environment where their associates feel comfortable giving feedback on
ideas and initiatives that are potentially in the works or being implemented. Your associates are
going to be carrying out the vision so Intersect must create an environment that they feel safe
delivering their opinions.
Secondly, Intersect needs to develop a reward and recognition program that will pay for
performance. This will give the employees an additional reason to excel in the job they are to
complete. The employees will begin to associate excellence with reward and although they are
already getting paid for a job well done, employees tend to go the extra mile when they know
there is a prize attached to the task. There is also a vision for Intersect to create an extensive line
of communication amongst the employees that will provide feedback to them in a timely fashion
on their sales initiatives as well as the interactions they have with customers whether good or bad.
Associates deserve to receive feedback from their managers, this will assist each associates as they
begin the journey to becoming close, trusted advisors with each of the customers.

Companies use accounting policies while preparing their financial statements. All financial
statements are set to follow an international standard guideline. These policies are available to users

Disclosures not only provide extensive information to users but also monitor the preparation of

such things in my home when the Crimson Tide play.

Things Fall Apart Changes
The world is ever changing and the majority of change comes from the outcomes on battlefields.
Change comes from the destruction of war. The outcome of the war can either bring peace or it
can bring something far worse than what the original conditions were. In Chinua Achebe s world,
it was not necessarily a full blown war that brought change, but to the Ibo people it must have felt
as if they were being invaded. The white men came into their village of Umuofia and turned
everything upside down. Most of the tribe s people did not understand the changes that they
brought to their way of life. The Ibo people slowly lost their way and were changed into something
that to them was unrecognizable from their traditional ways (Achebe 174). In The... Show more

In the poem The Second Coming , Yeats writes the falcon cannot hear the falconer (Yeats n.p.).
This line goes with the idea of the world falling apart because the falcon cannot do its job without
its master or leader the falconer. This applies to World War Ibecause although there were generals
ordering men on the battlefield, most people saw the war as aimless killing. Yeats must have
thought that the soldiers or the falcons were being sent into the battle without sound orders from
their leaders or the falconers. This shows the destruction that occurred during the war due to the
ignorance of the leaders. Achebe would agree with Yeats on the idea that without sound
directions from leaders the people do not know how to act properly. In Things Fall Apart, Mr.
Smith captures all the leaders of Umuofia and the tribe does not know how to act without them.
They do not fight for them back, and they do not question the orders given by Mr. Smith s
missionaries. The people of the tribe end up paying for their leaders release, therefore giving in
the Mr. Smith s demands. Without true orders from sound leadership the Ibo world and the world

The Elizabethans thought of it merely as a wittie and pleasant comedie ; Samuel Johnson remarked
that all the editors have concurred to censure [it] ; and William Hazlitt opined, If we were to part
with any of the author s comedies, it should be this. It was not until well into the twentieth century
that Love s Labour s Lost really came into its own, and this fact alone may be enough to make a
case for it as Shakespeare s most forward looking play. It is its ending in particular, an unexpectedly
grim conclusion in which nothing is actually concluded, that has appealed to modern sensibilities
and made Love s Labour s Lost the Shakespeare play for the twentieth century. TrevorNunn makes
this point emphatically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nunn s new production, however, breaks this tradition, radically altering the effect envisioned
by Shakespeare with the addition of a mere 30 seconds or so of extra textual material at the
beginning. John Peter s description perfectly captures the feeling of the opening moments: We
are in a forest clearing. The darkened Olivier stage is dominated by a bare beech, huge and
ancient. Soldiers rush on. Explosions, gunfire. This is the first world war. An officer...gets
badly wounded. But this is Love s Labour s Lost, is it not? A comedy, surely? This is indeed the
reaction of the audience as MarcadГ©, identifiable by his traditional all black costume, comes
onstage (in the text, his first and only appearance is his surprise entrance at the end) and says
portentously, The words of Mercury are harsh after the songs of Apollo (in the text, this line is
also at the end and is Armado s). A kneeling officer looks soulfully off into space, and the scene
changes: foliage appears on the tree, the lighting comes up to suggest dappled sunlight, merry
looking people in Edwardian costume cross the stage, and the first scene in the text finally begins,
revealing the kneeling officer to be Berowne and Shakespeare s entire play to be a flashback.
This added and adapted prologue, however brief, is quite significant: it lets the audience know
from the very start that all will not be well at the end, thus covering the entire rest of the play with
a cloud

Joyce Carol Oates Smooth Talk
Compare and Contrast Essay Short stories don t always translate well into full length movies, but
this movie, Smooth Talk, by Joyce Chopra, is a wonderful work based on the story, Where Are You
Going, Where Have You Been, by Joyce Carol Oates. The movie is very different from the original
work, both have the same storyline, both talk about a teenage girl name Connie. When putting these
two together, while similarity in many ways, but at the same time, they both have differences
throughout the entire story, from what we imagine of the characters to the ending of the story. As
in the short story, the story is more about Connie and Oates only uses a few sentences to describe
her familymembers, she doesn t provide much detail either. On the other hand, in the movie by
Joyce Chopra, she adds a few scene and even developing further more into the other characters, such
as the mother, father and her older sister, June. The main theme is still about Connie but also about
her family. By doing this, it can create more connection... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Oates leaves the story with an open ended ending, with lots of questions hanging. The
story ends with no other explain, and the ending is up to the reader to decide, which makes the
story more thrilling. On the contrary, the changes Chopra made gives the movie another aspect
and a new sense, a new feeling to it. The new ending solves all the conflict between the mother
and Connie when they finally accept each other. Her sister, June, at the very last scene of the
movie, is finally able to sit with Connie and talks about what has happened. Overall it is a happy
ending comparing to the short story that it s based on. The ending makes it look like the ride with

Dual Language Learners Essay
Although all the strategies help me further understand dual language learners, there are a couple
that stand out. Let me start with strategy, planning 5. This strategy helped me to better
understand that it is not only beneficial to pick a book that is related to the academic objective,
but also a book that the children can relate to. When picking a book most teachers as well as I
usually go for the books based on the academic objective. Which is great, but when you pick a
book the children can relate to. It helps them to engage and participate more. It also helps with
the discussion, because they are listening they can understand the story. therefore, eager to
answer the questions when ask. Now when I choose a book to read I make sure it is relatable to the
kids. One change I made when I m doing my lesson plans, is picking the books I know the

I used self and parallel talk all the time in my classroom, but it increased tremendously ever since
I did the lesson. I used it to foster positive behaviors as well as redirect the children. I usually
used it during meal time and sometimes outside. I found it beneficial for the students, because it
brings awareness to what they are doing and they respond to it very well. Self and parallel talk
help my DLLS to communicate more. Because they are still learning the language, self and parallel
talk help introduce new vocabularies to them in a fun way. When I m outdoor pulling the wagon or
inside during snack naming the fruits they are eating, that helps them to know the names.
Therefore, next time when they are eating the same type of fruits they say or mumble the

Reflective Essay On Fasting
I chose fasting as my inward spiritual discipline. I did for more than the class plan was. I started
fasting in mid October During Ethiopian orthodox fasting. I abstained from all things a body needs,
and must fast from animal products and from any kind of food. I did couple days every week. I
would usually Friday and Wednesday. I think it was on the last day of 2 days fast, I felt so good, I
felt like my body was filled with Godgrace. At the end of fasting I tried to meditate but it was hard
to concentrate.
The hardest part of fasting was talking about it for other people. What if someone offers you
food? I was Simply Sayed No, thank you, or I m all set, thanks. If they insist I tried to explain that
I am not eating that day. God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Solitude allows me to see the value of myself in God s image. I sat in solitude wondering how I
could forget God s unconditional love for me and my worth that is found in Him. Solitude
challenged my relationship with my husband because I often said no to my husband, which
caused him to be upset with me and eventually made me feel like a bad person. I said no because I
want to experience Solitude. Even if I faced certain challenges while practicing Solitude, I found it
was more rewarding than anything spiritual practice. After every hour of Solitude, I felt more
refreshed and I could feel the love around me. I became more aware of when I was overwhelmed
or needed to take a break from events, socializing, or people. I learned about my limits, and what
I can do to improve how much time I can spend in situations that are exhausting or do not reflect
God. The most rewarding part of solitude was I always came out of it knowing my worth and that I
was created to be here and I had a purpose. I could see who I truly was and how I can live that out,
which is something I often struggle with. solitude helped me realize that it s okay if I do not
meet the expectations. I finally realized that I can stop trying to be like by everyone else because I
was already loved by God. Practicing solitude opened my eyes to how important it is to take care of
my soul. The spiritual disciplines I practiced impacted my life

Beowulf Anglo Saxon Values
In the epic Beowulf translated by Burton Raffel, Beowulf exemplifies values that embody the ideals
of the Anglo Saxon culture. Some of these ideals are expressed through actions and words, while
others can be expressed through the characters thoughts and appearance. The anglo saxon culture
respects bravery and they also value strength. Beowulfshows these attributes throughout the story
and there are many examples of his character.
Beowulf said, I battled and bound five beasts, raided a troll nest and in the night sea, slaughtered
brutes. I have suffered extremes and avenged the Geats (their enemies brought it upon
themselves, I devastated them). Now I mean to be a match for Grendel. From this quote, we can
assume that Beowulf speaks with authority and is extremely confident. He uses elaborate speech
to describe his own power and skill and we can tell that he is a great warrior because of what he
said he has done. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Evolution Of Cad And Cam Technology Systems Essay
The high request for ceramic restorations in the posterior and anterior areas has focused on the
evolution of CAD and CAM technology systems. In the early 1980s Pioneered by Mörmann, the
first CAD/CAM system called Cerec System started the era of CAD/CAM in dentistry.
(Mörmann, 2006) The CAD/CAM technology was powered by the improvement of computing
power and specific recovery systems and milling machines. Therefore, to avoid traditionally digital
systems offer the opportunity and analogue impressions giving patient support and effective
workflow. The CAD/CAM systems are used in dental applications usually contain three
components: 1. There is a digital scanner that changes the geometry into digital information that can
be prepared by the computer. 2. Software that processes information and, depending on the
application, produces an information set for the product to be created. 3. A production technology
that converts the data set into the favourite product. (Shenoy and Prabhu, 2015) Computer Aided
Design To produce 2D or 3D graphical pictures of the objects CAD is the best computer
applications to use. CAD is more used to design the products in a varied range of industries, where
the software performs controls for defining the best structure and size for a diversity of product and
manufacturing design applications. The scanned documents are converted into the

Francisco Goya
Through his art, Francisco Goya relayed his feelings toward the political unrest that plagued Spain
during his lifetime. As an artist of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, Goya lived
through a time of political and social upheaval, especially throughout Europe. At the time, the ideas
of the Enlightenment had captivated the minds of Spains most influential citizens and soon, that of
Goya s. Born in Fuendetodos, Spain, in 1746, Francisco Goyacame from very humble beginnings.
As the son of a gilder, Goya grew up in the lower class of society, and even after his amazing
success as court painter to Spanish royalty, he highly identified himself with the everyday Spaniard
or majo. It is this very bond to the people that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Winter, peasants trudge through the storm with a slaughtered pig. The bright pink used in the
color of the pig is symbolic of the Rococo style. A fierce wind blows the tree to near breaking,
further communicating the harshness of the weather. Among the colorful scenes that make up this
set, it is undoubtedly in those dedicated to winter that Goya manifests, for the first time in this
cartoon, a social awareness of the everyday reality around him, the same consciousness that would
evolve toward the more extreme and dramatic works characteristic of his maturity. The social
commentary of this painting lead to its rejection by the Royal Tapestry Factory. Francisco Goya s
questioning and irreverent attitude toward life was graphically conveyed in his works. His success
with the Royal Tapestry Workshop brought his artistic talents to the attention of the Spanish
monarchs who would later give him access to the royal court. As court painter (1789), he created
realistic, penetrating portraits of his patrons. Perhaps the most notable portrait painted during this
time, is that of The Family of Charles IV. In this piece, Goya does not emphasize on any particular
member of the family. No significant focus is placed on the king, whom one would assume the
portrait should predominantly be about. He and the queen

The Great Schism Analysis
Amelia Kasgorgis
Ms. Argue
Mission
March, 10 2015
The Great Schism The Great Schism of 1378 was caused when the papal court, which was based
in Rome, elected an Italian Pope named Pope Urban VI. The French cardinals refused to accept the
Italian Pope so they announced that his election was invalid and elected a new Pope, Pope Clement
VII. Urban VI began to show absence in self control when he criticized the cardinals for their
luxury and laziness and when he revealed his plan of reforming the Church. Urban VI s violent and
abusive treatment towards the cardinals caused them to fear for their lives and believe he was
mentally ill; this lead to the turn against the cardinals to abandon Rome. At Anagni on August 2 the
dissidents published a manifesto in which they pronounced his election null and void, on the
ground that pressure from the Romans had made a free election impossible (Great Western
Schism). When they took away the position as Pope from Urban they elected his rival which was
Clement VII. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Avignon cardinals did the same when Pope Clement died, when they elected Benedict XIII.
Trying to find a solution the University of Paris suggested that the two Popes should resign with
judgment by a summoning of a general council. Pope Boniface IX died and another Roman Pope
was elected, Innocent VII, and after him Gregory XII, both who promised to resign
simultaneously with the French Pope but they never went through with it. Eventually cardinals
from both Rome and Avignon abandoned their Popes and agreed to summon a great council to
end the schism On March 28, 1409. Neither Pope showed up at this council meeting where they
were both deposed as Pope on Jane 5, 1409. The cardinals of the council elected a new Pope,
named Alexander and after his death John XXIII, which didn t work because both Rome and
Avignon Pope would officially step down from their

West Side Story Play Analysis West Side Story is about a conflict between two rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, which comes to a head when Tony, a former Jets member, and Maria, the sister of the leader of the Sharks, fall in love. Although the play centers around Tony and Maria, the character of Anita (played by Karli Dinardo) caught my eye since she revealed her purple dress which was different from the reds of the Sharks and blues of the Jets and I found myself drawn to her in each scene she was present in. I also found myself drawn to members of the Sharks as I understood the racism they faced from members of the Jets, Officer Krupke, and Detective Schrank. The characters of Tony and Mariawere actually the characters I didn t really like as I saw them both as selfish.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found that many of the actors in West Side Story vocals fit well with their characters such as Carly Evans soprano like voice that seemed so innocent to the world just like Maria. The orchestra ability to match the emotions of the song or scene was very beneficial in letting the audience know of Tony and Maria s undying love for each other in Tonight through the use of light and upbeat notes or Anita s anger in A Boy Like Thatwhich uses harsher notes. The effects of the characters emotions would not have been as evident if the instrumentals they sang along too didn t match the emotions they felt. Although the play is surrounded by dark themes, there are musical numbers with a tinge of comedic value such as in America where Rosalia praises Puerto Rico through phrases such as Puerto Rico, you lovely island and Anita retorts back Puerto Rico, you ugly island or Gee Officer Krupke where the Jets are joking as to what to say to Officer Krupke ending the song with Gee, Officer Krupke. • 5. Adam Smith And Karl Marx In his book Born in Blood Fire, John Chasteen defines Progress as any transformation that made Latin America similar to European and US models, resulting in human improvement. These transformations included the application of advanced technology, new political aspects, and economic growth. Neocolonialism was born from Progress, which can be explained as the influence foreign countries had on Latin Americas colonization. There was, however, different views on which way Progress should be achieved Latin America. Adam Smith and Karl Marx are examples of the main two views. Adam Smith, a Scottish Philosopher, was a critique of controlled markets and supported the idea that consumers should be able to engage in a free market in order to achieve overall self profit. As a believer in capitalism, Smith also viewed private property and overall self interest as positives. Implementing these ideas without the interference of the government, Smith believed, led to unlimited wealth and the most desirable economic outcome. Karl Marx, on the contrary, believed that poor people suffered for the benefit of the higher social class. Co author of the famous document, The Communist Manifesto, Marx supported communism, the abortion of distinguished social classes, and developed into one of the widely known critics of capitalism; Marx believe that the idea of capitalism gave an advantage to the people who were already rich and gave no opportunity for the working class to rise socially or ... • 6. Maternal Instinct in The Turn of the Screw Essay Henry James The Turn of the Screw is one of the more disputed texts in all of literature, as it is famously known as an ambiguous text. The primary uncertain element of is whether there are ghosts scaring the governess and the children, or whether the governess is actually going insane. Even though a certain portion of the text is ambiguous, there are other portions of the text that are much more black and white. For example, the relationships in this novella are nothing close to normal. There are three key relationships in The Turn of the Screw: the Governess and Mrs. Grose, the Governess and Miles, and the governess and Flora. All of these relationships show how the governess s maternal instinct influences her interactions and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, going to Mrs. Grose for information is extremely maternal. Since there is a very real possibility of danger, the governess wants to keep the children as safe as possible. The only way she can protect Miles and Flora is by gathering information and becoming aware of what is going on. Speaking of the children, the next relationship that must be focused upon is the one between the governess and Flora, the estate owner s eight year old daughter. In the second chapter of the story, the governess s maternal instinct shows up in the most simple of acts: she brings Flora along with her to go pick up Miles. She does not have to bring Flora along at all. She could have just left Flora at Bly manor, for Mrs. Grose and the other servants to take care of her. However, since the governess is new, she has not yet had a chance to get to know everyone and how things work. Therefore, the governess probably does not trust the others at Bly estate, and the only way to keep an eye on Flora is to bring her on the trip and exercising her protective maternal instinct. A second example of the governess exercising her maternal relationship can be found on page 68 of The Turn of the Screw. In this scene, the governess goes to Flora s bedroom to check and see if she is alright. Right when it is clear that Flora is not in her bed, the governess caught my breath with, all the terror that, five minutes ago, I had been able to resist (James 68). Quite simply, it was the ... In the 1950s, most immigrants arrived from the British Isles, as Canada favoured English and French immigrants because they spoke the same languages. In 1962, Canada changed its immigration regulations so that all races and nationalities were included. As a result, most immigration was now from Asia and Caribbean. The best method to understand the phases of the moon is to scrutinize the aspects of astronomy. First of all, we need to wipe out the most commonly held misconception about the moon s phases. The typical reason given for the cause of the moon phases is that we are observing the shadow of the Earth on the Moon! But it s not true. When the Moon goes through the shadow of the Earth, we obtain a lunar eclipse. The reality is that the moon crosses through the Earth s shadow only occasionally, so that can t be the reason of moon s phases. The actual reason for the moon s phases focuses on two prime aspects: the moon has a round shape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This phase is known as full moon because it becomes fully illuminated by the sunlight. This is the one and only period in an entire month when the Earth s shadow is anywhere next to the moon. The shadow of the Earth directly points towards the moon at this time. But the moon moves above or below the shade and no eclipse generates. After one week, the moon has crossed another quarter of the path around the Earth. It remains in the third quarter position at that time. And the sunlight directly falls on the other fraction of the visible part of the moon. Finally, after a week, the moon returns to the starting position, known as the new moon . When I m exhausted, I always stretch to relax my muscles and set room the temperature where it remains not too hot or too cold just somewhere at a low 60 degrees. Once I become all comfortable I will fall asleep quickly and my subconscious starts to wander into my innermost fears. All goals can be measured with a quantifiable unit, although some measurements may be harder to interpret than others. Goal 14.1 logically proves to be measurable, as marine pollutionis a material measure. During my master s degree at Villanova University, I conducted an experimental research under the supervision of Dr. Jens O.M. Karlsson at Biothermal Sciences Laboratory . In this NSF funded research position, I designed, built, and optimized different types of glass capillary microfluidic devices, and utilized them for producing micro emulsions. Subsequently, these micro emulsions were used for investigating ice nucleation and crystallization in supercooled ultrapure water, for which I used high speed imaging technique in conjunction with a powerful optical microscope and a cryo stage. The white men came into their village of Umuofia and turned everything upside down. Most of the tribe s people did not understand the changes that they brought to their way of life. This line goes with the idea of the world falling apart because the falcon cannot do its job without its master or leader the falconer. Yeats must have thought that the soldiers or the falcons were being sent into the battle without sound orders from their leaders or the falconers. John Peter s description perfectly captures the feeling of the opening moments: We are in a forest clearing. The darkened Olivier stage is dominated by a bare beech, huge and ancient. Soldiers rush on. Explosions, gunfire. This is the first world war. An officer...gets badly wounded. But this is Love s Labour s Lost, is it not? A comedy, surely? This is indeed the reaction of the audience as MarcadГ©, identifiable by his traditional all black costume, comes onstage (in the text, his first and only appearance is his surprise entrance at the end) and says portentously, The words of Mercury are harsh after the songs of Apollo (in the text, this line is also at the end and is Armado s). A kneeling officer looks soulfully off into space, and the scene changes: foliage appears on the tree, the lighting comes up to suggest dappled sunlight, merry looking people in Edwardian costume cross the stage, and the first scene in the text finally begins, revealing the kneeling officer to be Berowne and Shakespeare s entire play to be a flashback. I said no because I want to experience Solitude. Even if I faced certain challenges while practicing Solitude, I found it was more rewarding than anything spiritual practice. After every hour of Solitude, I felt more refreshed and I could feel the love around me. I became more aware of when I was overwhelmed or needed to take a break from events, socializing, or people. I learned about my limits, and what I can do to improve how much time I can spend in situations that are exhausting or do not reflect God. The most rewarding part of solitude was I always came out of it knowing my worth and that I was created to be here and I had a purpose. The bright pink used in the color of the pig is symbolic of the Rococo style. A fierce wind blows the tree to near breaking, further communicating the harshness of the weather. Among the colorful scenes that make up this set, it is undoubtedly in those dedicated to winter that Goya manifests, for the first time in this cartoon, a social awareness of the everyday reality around him, the same consciousness that would evolve toward the more extreme and dramatic works characteristic of his maturity. The social commentary of this painting lead to its rejection by the Royal Tapestry Factory. Francisco Goya s questioning and irreverent attitude toward life was graphically conveyed in his works. His success with the Royal Tapestry Workshop brought his artistic talents to the attention of the Spanish monarchs who would later give him access to the royal court. As court painter (1789), he created realistic, penetrating portraits of his patrons. Perhaps the most notable portrait painted during this time, is that of The Family of Charles IV. In this piece, Goya does not emphasize on any particular member of the family. No significant focus is placed on the king, whom one would assume the portrait should predominantly be about. • 50. The Great Schism Analysis Amelia Kasgorgis Ms. Argue Mission March, 10 2015 The Great Schism The Great Schism of 1378 was caused when the papal court, which was based in Rome, elected an Italian Pope named Pope Urban VI. The French cardinals refused to accept the Italian Pope so they announced that his election was invalid and elected a new Pope, Pope Clement VII. Urban VI began to show absence in self control when he criticized the cardinals for their luxury and laziness and when he revealed his plan of reforming the Church. Urban VI s violent and abusive treatment towards the cardinals caused them to fear for their lives and believe he was mentally ill; this lead to the turn against the cardinals to abandon Rome. At Anagni on August 2 the dissidents published a manifesto in which they pronounced his election null and void, on the ground that pressure from the Romans had made a free election impossible (Great Western Schism). When they took away the position as Pope from Urban they elected his rival which was Clement VII. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Avignon cardinals did the same when Pope Clement died, when they elected Benedict XIII. Pope Boniface IX died and another Roman Pope was elected, Innocent VII, and after him Gregory XII, both who promised to resign simultaneously with the French Pope but they never went through with it. Eventually cardinals from both Rome and Avignon abandoned their Popes and agreed to summon a great council to end the schism On March 28, 1409. Neither Pope showed up at this council meeting where they were both deposed as Pope on Jane 5, 1409.
